Outgoing senior student-athletes and podcast hosts David Litvin and Amelia Wright sign off from their duties on The Owl Pod.
Welcome back to the final episode of the Al Pod. I'm your host, David Litfin, alongside me, my beloved co-host.
SPEAKER_02Emil, you're right. Yeah, we had to hit it for the last time.
SPEAKER_01For the last time. And you know, not to be confused, the Al Pod will continue.
SPEAKER_02Yes. We we can say this is season one.
SPEAKER_01This is season one.
SPEAKER_02We're the founders of the AlPod.
SPEAKER_01The starters of the Al Pod. Yeah. This this beloved podcast.
SPEAKER_02But it will continue to flourish.
SPEAKER_01It will. Do we know who's hosting the podcast? Not entirely.
SPEAKER_02To be continued.
SPEAKER_01That's a surprise, though. And we encourage you to keep listening, despite this is the last time you'll be hearing our voices together.
SPEAKER_02Which is which is sad, but unless we come back for a reunion episode or something, you never know.
SPEAKER_01It's a phenomenal idea. I think that I think they'd like to have us.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. Um they're gonna they're gonna miss our voice for sure.
SPEAKER_01They will, but as we mentioned, in the fall, two new hosts.
SPEAKER_02So we'll have summer break, no podcast in the summer.
SPEAKER_01No podcast in the summer. It's a quiet time for the owls. In the fall, they'll be back with season two.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh two new hosts, two new perspectives, two new voices.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Could be interesting. I would certainly be listening. For sure.
SPEAKER_02And uh we're gonna join the Owl Faithful now.
SPEAKER_01We will be the Owl Faithful.
SPEAKER_02From host to fans, lifelong fans.
SPEAKER_01Lifelong fans for sure. Um, but this episode's gonna look a little different since it's our last one. We're not gonna spend too, too much time recapping. Um, instead, maybe we'll talk a little bit about what this podcast has meant to us.
SPEAKER_02Uh oh, you're trying to get sentimental.
SPEAKER_01Just you know, a little recap of season one. Yeah. It's a good time. Talk about some things that we have going on uh moving forward.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're gonna talk about whatever we want to talk about.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna talk about whatever we want. So you guys are in for a treat today. Yeah, just us, no guest. Um, but before we do that, let's do what we always do and give a short recap. Um we can start with what's coming up for men's and women's crew enrolling, respectfully.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, which are basically our only teams left other than Jack and Field.
SPEAKER_01Right. This weekend, so that would be May, the weekend of May 8th. Men's crew has the Dadville Championships, which we've talked a lot about on this podcast. That is their big uh you can call it conference meet. It's really like their end of the year, big, big race that will qualify them, hopefully, for the national meet. Yeah. They won this regatta last year. They're looking to defend their title. Um, and they've had a great regular season, so I don't see any reason why they're not shouldn't be up there. I think the top three teams, top three or four teams will go to nationals, so they definitely want to be in that group, but hopefully defend their crown. And then on the other side, the women's remember they're part of this new conference, the Mac, and their uh conference championships are next weekend in Michigan. And same deal for them. They've had a really, really strong regular season, and they're hoping to qualify for nationals. I think they need to be in the top three of their conference. So um good luck to both of those teams as they conclude their seasons here the back half of May. Um we'll be following still. Amelia, I think you said you're going to Dadville this weekend.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think that's one of the one of the last things to check off my bucket list of like teams to see, and I think it'd be fun to go.
SPEAKER_01So love that. Yeah. Um you want to talk about women's lacrosse? I mean, last time we were we didn't we didn't know if you guys were gonna make the conference tournament.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and and I I hope everyone doesn't remember, but I mixed up every letter of every school in the conference. I it was like ECU, ODU, JMU. Like I was just mixing up letters. Alphabet soup in my brain, you could say. Um, but we did qualify for the tournament down in Nashville. We played, we were the fourth seed, and we played first seed USF, which when we played them in the regular season, we lost by just one. Um we knew it was gonna be a dog fight. They're they're a very good, well-rounded team. Um, and yeah, we played them almost a week ago on Thursday, and we lost. I don't even know the final score. We lost, so we we got knocked out of the tournament, and then they ended up losing to JMU in the finals. So JMU got the automatic qualifier for our conference, and yeah, we had a we had a good time in Nashville, apart from maybe some travel issues, but we made our way back and we had a good time as a team.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, obviously, maybe not the the last the ending that you wanted in terms of the actual game, but I'm really happy you guys did get into the conference tournament. If anything, it's a really good experience for some of the younger student athletes on your team. And yeah, um obviously USF was always gonna be a tough game. Um by the way, did you say they didn't make the national tournament?
SPEAKER_02Dude, I can't talk about this. I'd have to be censored, honestly.
SPEAKER_01It was crazy. I just saw on like Instagram there's some controversy.
SPEAKER_02We can talk about this after a bit, because what I have to say is not nice.
SPEAKER_01So Okay, let's keep moving then.
SPEAKER_02We don't want to get you in any trouble, even though JMU 10 gold them in the final, so dot dot dot comma. That's what that those are my thoughts.
SPEAKER_01So you don't think they should have made the tournament?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02But I don't want to get like trolled or anything, so I'm gonna stop talking.
SPEAKER_01No, that's fair.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to get clipped.
SPEAKER_01Don't get clipped. Don't get clipped. Um, I mean, there's not many other sports to talk about, like we said.
SPEAKER_02I know. Well, we have Track and Field has their conference, right?
SPEAKER_01Right, they're they're going to conference next week.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we want Rose to do well in that.
SPEAKER_01To rip the 10K.
SPEAKER_02She has 10K first and then possible 8K, like is it the next day?
SPEAKER_015K is two days later. That is crazy. 10K on Thursday, 5K would be on Saturday. That's wild. Um, so yeah, I mean, we'll be follow- I'll be definitely following those results, wishing those girls the best. Um where's that? They're down in Texas.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Oh, yeah. So she said it was gonna be hot. I remember that too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be a hot one. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I mean, that's really it for our sports. This is a slow time of year. Yeah. Um, so yeah, I mean, look, we've recorded probably how many episodes? 20, 25 episodes. Let's go back if we can. Oh gosh. Was there an episode for you that you might have, you know, considered to be your favorite? I mean, I know it's hard to pick favorites.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it is hard.
SPEAKER_01Do you have an episode that you were like, that was the best episode?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Like, because it's almost hard to remember all the pieces because you know, all most of our podcasts are like 45 plus minutes. But I feel like after every podcast, we said, like, oh, that one was really good. Like, I feel like every time we kind of got better at talking, better at like connecting, asking questions on the fly. But like recently, so I mean, obviously, it's easier to remember the more recent ones. I thought Angus was one of my favorite ones. Yeah, I didn't know too much about crew. Obviously, we had had Adam Current on previously, but it was kind of more fun to talk like in season for them. Um, but I thought that was one of my favorites. I feel like he was really good like conversating, and we learned about Australia. We learned about the shirts they give out.
SPEAKER_01I think it's almost like cooler to interview people that you like. Like personally, I never talked to Angus. Yeah, and I'd say most people we have on the podcast, like I've I've I've had some sort of friendship with. Um, aside from a couple, but yeah, by and large, I'd say I knew most people, but yeah, Angus is someone I never talked to.
SPEAKER_02So those are the more fun ones, you're right.
SPEAKER_01That that was cool. And also, like you said, like him being from Australia, like some of the vlog was yeah, it was really cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, um, we learned about the what the sprinkles, what was it?
SPEAKER_01Oh, tens and thousands.
SPEAKER_02Tens and thousands, like what is that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Gosh.
SPEAKER_02What about you? Do you have a favorite?
SPEAKER_01It's hard to pick. It is hard. I think, like you said, like I really did feel like every episode we did walk away saying that was really good. I also think I mean, I know you don't listen as much as I do, but like I just tell like we got better as the year went on, which was fun. Um, not that we were I didn't think we were bad at the beginning, but I could just tell like as the episodes went on, like we just got more comfortable. I think we got into like a rhythm of like what we would talk about. Yeah. Um, and I also think we set it up that like like I was talking to Kevin about this yesterday, like there's there's never like uh an end, right? Like there's not like there's the possibilities are limitless because every week there's new results, there's new people to talk to. So like I just think it's cool we kind of set up something that can be maybe like um carried on for you know as long as they want to. Yeah, and we were season one of it, which is really cool. Yeah, um but I would say like if I had to pick one, I I'd go like this semester. Um I really enjoyed our conversation with Rose. I was not expecting um to not. I think of the hot dogs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02When you say Rose, I'm like, oh, she lied about having what nine hot dogs in nine innings.
SPEAKER_01I I really that was a really fun episode. Um I like the Angus one a lot. Yeah, I th I'd say like those two from this semester definitely stuck out. Um the other one I really liked was the Megan episode. That was we recorded that in the Student Ethic Lounge.
SPEAKER_02That was the one that like you're such good friends with her, and obviously, like I feel like we we like a lot of people like that one because it almost seemed like we were like bullying you in a way, and it was just really like easy to talk to, and it was fun. It was really funny, but um, I I really liked her too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was really fun. Um, I I think it's cool like when you get someone in season, uh also like you know, when Sarah came on, oh yeah, um when Caitlin came on, like yeah, no, those are really fun as well.
SPEAKER_02I I really liked Sammy too, because I didn't know much about fencing, I didn't know like team culture. You just learned so much about everything.
SPEAKER_01Do you feel like I have like a personalized connection with every sport now? Because I think we did talk to every sport.
SPEAKER_02I think we did, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's often maybe women's basketball.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, that was a tough like because they had a really bad travel schedule this year. It was like every Tuesday they would leave, and then on Thursdays, like they had a bad schedule.
SPEAKER_01But I just feel like um, especially because we have interviewed a lot of younger student athletes.
SPEAKER_02We got a good range of of ages for sure.
SPEAKER_01There's a there's like a lot to talk about, um, which was awesome. Also, I feel like it was cool like growing our social media page. I know it's like relatively small still, but like No, but we gained a lot of followers just too. Connecting people that way um was something that I I guess I just really enjoyed um throughout. And and I also want to iterate that uh couldn't do this without the help of of Dan Lobaz and and Kevin Cop. Yeah. Um really pushing us to continue what we did. They I think they trusted us a lot with uh giving us flexibility to interview who we want, talk about what we want, not not censoring us anyway, not editing. Which might have been you know troublesome at times.
SPEAKER_02But uh we slipped up a few times.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but no, like big thanks to them for trusting us with this and letting us kind of take it and run with it. Um would not be possible without them. And then I guess like the Al Faithful, we gotta thank. Oh, yeah. You know, we heard you guys possible without them. Yeah, we heard you guys. Um, you know, your energy, uh, the new listeners, the people that maybe listened once because they had um maybe a son or daughter on the podcast, but they continue to listen. Yeah, we appreciate your support and we hope that you continue to listen even after we uh after we depart.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um anything anything else you want to say to our to our fans?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Uh I mean the only thing that we're missing from our Owl Faithful, we ask every podcast, you know, hit the Instagram DMs. That's the only thing that would make you guys go above and beyond.
SPEAKER_01Like it really, I know it's scary, right? You gotta type the DM out, you gotta send it, but I I think the right as we go into season two, that that's the missing ingredient here. If we can get the Owl Faithful, the fan connection is fun.
SPEAKER_02We did have we had really good um fan connection when we interviewed the football guys, though. We got a lot of questions on the on the Instagram from that. So just that energy, we need it.
SPEAKER_01We need the energy.
SPEAKER_02We love the feedback also. Me and Dave love going through the the DMs. A lot of them are from my parents, but um we love the feedback.
SPEAKER_01It's cool to hear. Um, no, I agree. That was fun. And also like the live show. We forgot to talk about that, but oh yeah, that was the live show, it was awesome. Um, it was a really cool moment for us and something we talked about for a while. So those are some of the highlights for us at least.
SPEAKER_02Um we could keep going forever.
SPEAKER_01We could, and I think uh I'd be remiss if I didn't mention as well now that I'm thinking about it. Last week, you guys were out of town for the Stellos, by the way. Quick side piece here. In I I gave some remarks at the beginning and I put a line in there specifically for Women's Lacrosse.
SPEAKER_02Oh, we didn't hear. We were at dinner.
SPEAKER_01I mentioned something about like the experience of the student athletes is unique. Um it goes beyond like competing, it's about you know waking up early, you know, it's the long practices, and then I I I put in the at the end I said, and and the bus breakdowns. Oh gosh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We know that maybe better than any other team. I threw that in there, not a flex, though.
SPEAKER_01Threw that through through you threw that in there for you guys, but I realized you weren't there. But I and I don't I didn't hear as many laughs as I thought, but I knew if you if we were there, we would have we would who it who didn't Hollard. I know you guys would have. I just wanted to just mention that and as well, like thinking about the Stellas, you know, Melia won pretty big award. You want you want to tell us about that?
SPEAKER_02Yours was even bigger.
SPEAKER_01I don't think so. Yes, it was the Novacare Comeback uh female student athlete of the year. Was it yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Gotta get that right, sponsorship right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've spent a I I've spent a lot of time with Novacare. That's our our PT plug for Tempo Athletics, and um I I get bills from them constantly, so I'm just I'm yes, I'm so glad that I could win an award and maybe they'll they'll help me out with these bills that I need Temple Athletics to their insurance to kick in.
SPEAKER_01They don't cover those?
SPEAKER_02No, they do, but it it's just like we're getting a lot of paperwork in the mail, you know. My parents are probably gonna get annoyed.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but we're we're trying to fax it over. But like, if I if I won this award, hopefully that should like nudge them to be like, yeah, yeah, Amelia deserves it.
SPEAKER_01It's all the video that your uh your team put out of you of your reaction to getting the award.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we were at Martin's barbecue in Nashville.
SPEAKER_01How was that barbecue? It was fun.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so good. Every time we're in Nashville, I mean I've been to Nashville five times now. I've never been, and I've never like been on Broadway. Like I walked on Broadway, but I didn't do what you do on Broadway, you know what I'm talking about. Um so we always get Martin Bar Martin's barbecue. That's like our team's staple, and it's delicious. And we also I don't want to just flex myself. Dave got the award of the trusty 10, one of the top 10 GPAs for student athletes, which is such a flex.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And a couple more awards. It's a little invasive that award, I tell you.
SPEAKER_02What do you mean, invasive? That now people know your GPA?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think that's a little invasive.
SPEAKER_02Dude, you have over a 3.9. That's very impressive.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. I just think the announcing the GPA, we could do without that. But that's okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but that's like how they rank them, right?
SPEAKER_01Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, that's fine if they want to rank them that way, but then we don't need to announce them. We could just announce the 10 people.
SPEAKER_02It's such a flex for these seniors, though, that have like 4.0s, and then you have what, like a 3.98 or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, it's it's cool. I agree. It's a very cool award. Um, but yeah, no, the sellers was a great night.
SPEAKER_02Um, didn't you get one more? What was the other one?
SPEAKER_01I got the uh impact award.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes. You have had an impact for sure.
SPEAKER_01We have had an impact. I think they should make a an AliPod award. An Alipot award? Best guess on the Alipot.
SPEAKER_02Well, I won it last year, the Spirit of Temple Award. Like, they had to take it away because we would have been automatic locks. Yeah, like we are the we're the spirit.
SPEAKER_01Spirit of Temple. I mean, look, we love Temple, and I think that's something we we need to stress more is like just embrace your love for Temple. Exactly. People here are like afraid to love this place. No, no, not us.
SPEAKER_02We bleed cherry, bleed cherry, and white.
SPEAKER_01Also, shout out real quick, Amelia. We had the student athlete uh graduation ceremony yesterday, just delivered just a fire speech. You know, I I was proud in the audience. I'm like, this I mean, look, you would have given a great speech no matter what, but I think the podcast like it helps with the public speaking.
SPEAKER_02For sure, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and there's a couple other student athletes that spoke as well. But uh, yeah, shout out Amelia, that was great.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was fun.
SPEAKER_01All right, should we roll into our last edition of our our favorite segments?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and we we gotta give a shout out. It's my dad's birthday. Gave him a quick call, told him we're recording the last pod. He seemed a bit sad, I'm not gonna lie, but um gotta give him a shout out because he gave us he gave us a theme idea, he gave us some ideas for the takes and yeah, well, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So shout out Dan, first of all.
SPEAKER_02He's gonna be excited.
SPEAKER_01And we have to give him credit for this theme. Yeah, we could call it uh Temple Takes, Dan Wright, graduation themed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, not a tongue twister like we usually like, but um That's alright. Yeah. So today, graduation theme. Dave has graduation tomorrow. I graduated last year, did all the shebangs, the festivities. But um, for those of you that don't know, Temple Takes, my favorite segment.
SPEAKER_01We're I can hear I can hear you in your voice that you're upset. This is the last time we're talking about it.
SPEAKER_02Like I am losing my voice, but I'm also sad. So um Temple Takes, we're gonna hit you with some theme like topics in this theme of graduation and then hit you with an overrated, underrated.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe uh at the end we have a little quantifiable answer if that's correct.
SPEAKER_02You're pulling out some some big words.
SPEAKER_01But no, let's start with the overrated. I'm gonna I'm just gonna be straightforward about this.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have controversial answers on this because Yeah, but you have you you haven't gone through all of them yet? Like we'll see, but uh I'm just you haven't worn the cabin gown yet.
SPEAKER_01So I'm just saying I I'm don't if you're the listeners, like just bear with me. This is probably gonna be unpopular.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I feel like first we can start like very broad with this one. We can just start with like grad picks.
SPEAKER_01Grad picks.
SPEAKER_02Because as you just told me, you didn't take any yet.
SPEAKER_01I I yeah, I don't do that.
SPEAKER_02And you don't plan on taking grad picks.
SPEAKER_01No, like you know, they they their Temple Flex is nice enough to offer like the student athlete ones where you put the cap and gown on in your uniform. That's really cool. I got those pictures, those are great.
SPEAKER_02But you're just on in a white background, like you gotta hit some on campus, and we'll talk about some some hot campus spots, but like you gotta get some pics.
SPEAKER_01I'm just not into the grad picks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but you you graduate college once. Come on.
SPEAKER_01I I'll take pictures tomorrow, like in my cap and gown with my family.
SPEAKER_02But I'm Are you gonna go on campus or like just outside Leo Course?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll see. If it's a nice day, maybe I'll go on campus, take some pictures.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's so packed.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna say I'm gonna say overrated because I I just think Yeah, we knew you were gonna say that. I'm not into the grad pic scene. But I think it's great for other people, just like myself.
SPEAKER_02I guess I'm a girl, so maybe that also ties into it. But like I thought it was so fun to take grad picks. I took them with my roommate. I love when people take it with like their class. Um, but I'm going underrated. I think it's it's fun to dress up and go take pics on places on campus that like meant a lot to you and are very pretty.
SPEAKER_01So campus is beautiful. I mean, I was we were there, I was on campus with my family yesterday after the gra uh student at the graduation, and it was a beautiful day, but gotta, I mean, our campus is so nice. I I actually love this place. Yeah. Um, all right, let's go commencement.
SPEAKER_02Wait, we gotta talk about we gotta get a little bit more specific. Excuse me, I didn't get specific for those that don't know. Obviously, owl statue in the middle of campus. When you're taking grad picks, like a lot of people, I mean, we have a we go to a big school, there's a line outside the owl, or not outside, but like you're already outside. Outside the owl. And it is usually like pretty deep.
SPEAKER_01No, you're waiting your turn.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're waiting your turn. So I'm I'm gonna say grad picks in general is is underrated, but waiting at the owl, I'm gonna say overrated.
SPEAKER_01Right, I I agree.
SPEAKER_02Because I already have like pictures, like every time I walk past with my mom, she makes me take a selfie outside of it.
SPEAKER_01So it's like Yeah, I love the owl. No, the owl's a great statue.
SPEAKER_02The owl's pretty, but I'm not gonna weigh in line for a picture with the owl.
SPEAKER_01I also don't think it's like a great picture for a picture. Like a great sorry, great picture. Great spot for a picture. Like I think like in on in front of uh Sullivan or in front of the bell tower. That big temple flag. That's a lot prettier. I think that's a better spot. So I'm gonna say the owl is actually an overrated picture spot. Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_02It's probably a hot take, but tomorrow you're gonna see. I I thought it was bad, like just when people are taking pictures on like Mondays, Tuesdays before graduation. The line after my like public health one yet last year, it was maybe like 40 people deep. Like everyone's trying to get a picture out there with their family, and I'm like, Yeah, 40 people's crazy. We can skip out on that one, mom and dad. We did.
SPEAKER_01Alright, can we can I finally move on to the next one?
SPEAKER_02Yes, you you may.
SPEAKER_01Let's talk commencement. Um I mean, I'll just be honest. Uh my commencement was today and I did not go.
SPEAKER_02I didn't go either, so I think that that shows our answer.
SPEAKER_01It's overrated. Look, I'll just say this. My family's in town. Look, of course, my family, if you couldn't guess, they're they're more into the graduation thing than I am. Like if it was.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you sound so hype.
SPEAKER_01I'm just not into it. I don't know what it is. Just yeah, I just not into it. But like to bring them to campus, you know, it'd be one thing if my graduation was today as well. Okay, commencement, let's just do it all in one day. But I'm not gonna bring them here.
SPEAKER_02But that is so much time. Like, even if it was your grad dad, that's like six hours.
SPEAKER_01No, commencement's long five hours. When I was watching some of the videos of some of the speakers, it was cool. But like I'm already gonna be in lead course tomorrow for two and a half hours for the Fox School of Business graduation. I don't need to go to commencement as well. I think it's it's a little I wish it was just kind of one thing that you could do. Because again, I haven't even taken my cap and gun out of out of the package yet. So I gotta like What if yours is like short?
SPEAKER_02That'd be so funny.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's gonna then it's gonna be short. Uh commencement's a little overrated. Got a crop top. Commencement's overrated.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think maybe if the speaker was like someone like genuinely crap. crazy that I loved like if like Jalen Hurts was talking that would change my answer. But like who was it this year? Um Domingo. He's in like euphoria. I think he went to tempo. He's an actor.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Definitely an actor.
SPEAKER_02Yeah I'm not I'm not super passionate about him. But I also just you you know you're gonna sit at your graduation for three hours so it's like just not doing both.
SPEAKER_01You're not even walking.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. You're just there to hear people talk and trust me tomorrow you will hear so many people talk.
SPEAKER_01It's it's about like the walk right like that's why we're doing it.
SPEAKER_02Exactly yeah that's the best part so glad we're both going overrated. Um I'd I'd be interested though to wonder like how many people do go to commencement like because I know some of my teammates are like oh my mom's forcing me to go like yeah but my parents weren't happy when I said I wasn't going they were not happy.
SPEAKER_01But I mean look like they understand I think they they weren't happy about what they understand. Alright let's move let's go flowers outside which sounds a bit vague but like if you know you know like outside of graduation there's always people like selling flowers. They also always have like these stuffed animals which is really yeah there's stuffed animals is pretty random I'm not gonna lie I'm not like a big fan of like buying a stuffed animal on the street just seems like a little weird to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah it might have like cameras in the eyes or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah just just I don't know just the whole thing is a little weird. They have like these I don't know the flowers outside I'm gonna be honest like it feels a little like oh I forgot flowers let me just like take the easy way that probably is what it's yeah. Like not that again I don't need flowers for graduation. I'm just saying like is it like a oh I forgot flowers let me just pick some up right now yeah or is it like hey you just graduated here some flowers the whole thing is just there's just too many people with flowers outside.
SPEAKER_02Yeah but I think that was like part of it like my parents got me flowers after I don't know if they bought them on the street so I really don't want to offend them but like no there's no there's no hate.
SPEAKER_01I'm just saying like for me it's just when I walk outside today there's a there's a vendor on every corner. Like they all kind of take their space it's like it's funny.
SPEAKER_02Like outside the parking garage outside the the stuffed animals I will I won't hate on the flowers but I will hate on like like I just graduate college you're gonna give me a little stuffed animal with a is it like on a stick or something like you're just walking around with a stuffed animal like I'm confused.
SPEAKER_01No you'll see you'll see you'll probably see it after we le after we leave here. Yeah it's so many people I like didn't even look honestly but I don't know flowers outside I guess overrated like yeah I don't know I like I like getting flowers though so it's hard to say that you know what I'll say about the flowers they're probably overpriced I like giving flowers more than receiving because I'm gonna be honest like this is probably like not the best thing to share but I don't ever know what to do when I get flowers.
SPEAKER_02I just discovered this the other week I feel like a lot of people don't know what to do.
SPEAKER_01Like do you know in order when you get flowers like you have to cut them on an angle.
SPEAKER_02Yes I do I do I do know that like and you have to put them in cold water like I there's a bot there's a lot of hacks.
SPEAKER_01You can put a penny in them or something or like some people say like vodka and it like makes them like stay alive but like they're gonna last like a week you know yeah flowers are tough because like you're so thankful because it's such a nice gesture but then I always feel like I don't take proper care of them and then it's like I don't know. Yeah but I think I think it's an it's I like giving flowers because I get to hand the burden over to someone else.
SPEAKER_02You're like deal with this that's fun.
SPEAKER_01But it's still a good gift. Yeah I might seem like terrible person yeah let's move usual yeah grad gifts and grad parties.
SPEAKER_02You seemed excited for this one so you can start us off um yeah I mean I'm not I mean I don't know where you got my excited I don't know you said something about like oh you were like I wrote it down you're like oh I have something to say about oh grad parties the grad parties I think was the yeah grad parties like I don't know for me like again I don't I'm not like a big like I don't know I'm not a grad party guy did you have one in high school?
SPEAKER_01No okay I I get the appeal is it a thing up here like is it normal to have grad parties okay I get the appeal um I like going to other people's grad parties but I don't like to be like this is gonna sound the tenor of attendant I don't like to be celebrated oh my god I know I'm one of those people so I my GPA was too high my my like I I I told I told like my parents like I I don't want a grad party so we're just gonna go out to dinner. Yeah I feel like in college it's kind of strange to have a grad party some people do it some people just send out invitations and want gifts back like grad gifts I mean look right now I'm in this big argument with my mom and my grandma because I'm not into the whole grad gift thing and they're like we gotta get you something I'm like I then you get me something like I don't need to tell you whatever I don't like the whole gift thing and party thing look I just want to you know be my family be with my friends I don't need the whole ordeal okay just a just a classic guy that that doesn't want to be celebrated okay doesn't want to I told you I told you I gave everyone a trigger warning this I was not I was not gonna be you know a a great yeah you knew you'd be controversial today yeah thank you I mean you usually are but um I don't know I think grad gifts are fun my I got like a a really cute like cherry wallet that was like a nice coach gift from my mom and then we also went like purse shopping so I feel like it was like a good like mature gift but like getting gifts for guys is actually so hard.
SPEAKER_02So like I don't even know like what you like would ask for that would be like equivalent to that you know but I think it was really cute and it had cherries on it so it was like kind of like you know temple.
SPEAKER_01So I really liked my my gifts I got really quick sidebar like the fact that our school like you could also like you know how we have what are the owls but you could get like someone like something cherry theme like you said like that's cool. Like I don't think many other schools have that. Yeah that is because our color is literally cherry. Yeah like cherries work for yeah for us.
SPEAKER_02And it's and ever there's so many cherries are so in right now too it's like really yeah I don't know if you know like trends but like I would say cherries and like polka dots are like two big fashion trends and like see I that's where I like just fall off the edge of I don't know any trends or anything. Okay. Um I'm saying grad gifts underrated grad parties overrated I had a grad party in high school and it was it was very fun but like for especially now like I went to school hundreds of miles away like where would I have my grad party like would I have it in my apartment at school or would I have it back home and then none of my school friends can go like it wouldn't even make sense to have complicated yeah yeah all right postgrad summer. Oh this is a little bit of shade since um last episode with Rose you know you really emphasized how amazing that freshman year summer is how did this hate man it's not hate it's just funny.
SPEAKER_01I am it is funny.
SPEAKER_02It is funny because you were like so happy about it.
SPEAKER_01No but I'm serious.
SPEAKER_02And I've never heard anyone else talk about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah that's a shame because I think it's a real thing and I think if we actually asked people to think about it they would agree with me. But I don't think anyone like consciously thinks about this but I do.
SPEAKER_02So you think maybe like what would be the opposite of like postgrad blues like freshman year woos like yeah exactly freshman summer woos.
SPEAKER_01So you think like post grad summer is not gonna hit as hard as freshman year summer it might it might because you don't have to work for the first part of it but I'm my job starts in the middle of July so I I think it's like you have a good break then it's exciting to not have to worry about things but it's also like you're just kind of anticipating the start of your job yes the start of the rest of your life like yeah and do you want to update like what you're doing like I'm working at Philly. I'm working in in finance downtown I'm working at a small uh I guess it's lower middle market private equity firm we invest in like software companies so I will be my job is basically to go out and meet with CEO and co-founders of their businesses and see if we could be a good partner for them. So it's it's an exciting job I'm excited to start. And you had your internship with them yeah I did my internship with them last summer so I'm I'm familiar with the team and everything. Uh I really enjoyed it and I'm excited to stay in Philly because I like Philly a lot. Um living in the city I'm staying where I am at Temple. Oh that's cool yeah because I can just take the train in and uh it's probably cheap it's it's it's a lot cheaper and also like I don't feel a need to pack up all my stuff and move somewhere and I I anticipate working a lot of hours so I don't I don't think I'll be home much. Yeah. So I don't really I don't really mind you know staying staying where I am right now. So postgrad summer I'll say underrated there you go. Because I I'm excited for for a break like a real break.
SPEAKER_02Yeah and uh it'll be good that you don't have to move because I feel like a lot of people hate that part of like postgrad too. Yeah yeah yeah for sure what about you I don't know because you've already experienced this to some yeah I guess but was last year my postgrad summer like but like no because I knew I was coming back to school. I mean even now I know I'm going back to school. Right I'm going to I'm going to nursing school next year for those that don't know back home in Georgia.
SPEAKER_01Um do you know where yet?
SPEAKER_02Yeah I already I'm already registered for classes I'm going to Gwynette Tech. Nice it's like 10 minutes from my house. Congrats super close yeah so I'll I'll live at home and how many years is that program it should be like two years but like I think because I have all the prereqs and stuff like that's not like a hard deadline so I'm um I might be flexible I might finish earlier I might see if I could add an extra class in a semester or something like that. But yeah excited to have that like solidified now because I've been working on that all semester and officially signed up for my classes in the fall. Gonna have some clinicals and stuff. Yeah it'll be fun but I think I think post grad summer is gonna I'll say underrated too because I don't know like how your training at least for like D1 athletics worked um because all you do is like run and stuff. Yeah but like I obviously I like playing lacrosse I hated running so doing the run packet especially in Georgia I would have to wake up at like 7 a.m or else I'd be like dying during runs. I mean I'm dying either way honestly but like with the heat and the humidity and the on the turf field like the turf field adding 10 degrees like I am so excited not have to do that again honestly no that's fair.
SPEAKER_01Yeah I think like that's interesting like I want to I'm gonna continue running I'm gonna try and take it you know just as seriously which is gonna be a challenge not that's crazy yeah because I am running the Chicago marathon in October and I'd like to I want to I want to stay running like I want to stay competitive. So obviously it's gonna look different but um I hope I can still enjoy it and I'm also gonna you know start doing other things it's not gonna take up my whole life obviously but I want to continue running so I'm interested if that dynamic will how that will work out with without being on a team. It's just I'm sure I haven't experienced that feeling in a while so I think it's gonna be a totally different dynamic but yeah we'll see. Alright let's let's move on to the last one which I think is uh you know the one we said we're gonna quantify this answer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah how many guests is acceptable at graduation I yeah this is like a tough one because I feel like I don't want to sound like rude but like when some people it's also funny because when I wrote this I was thinking back to like you know how you have group meet in your class and stuff. I don't know if you experienced this but like in class group meetings and stuff like people were just constantly texting like oh like anyone have more tickets and stuff like that and it's like how many people are you bringing like that you need like a crazy amount of tickets because I feel like we got like six or something which is like seems like a lot of people and I know some people maybe also like your family's closer so maybe like your aunt or uncle would come but like I feel like obviously like if my brother like mom and dad want to come like that makes sense. But then when you're getting to extended family it's like a little bit like do you have to be there you know I agree. Um my grandma came that was fun too yeah but like so I had three guests.
SPEAKER_01So I have I have a lot of guests but I don't have so my guests are this I have my mom and my dad my brother's not coming actually because he's in school and he has a an exam on the day of my graduation so so I my immediate family there's four of us so only two are coming but then I have I'm lucky enough to have all four of my grandparents are still with us. Yeah three of them are coming and one of them is also a temple graduate he graduated 75 years ago wow he's 96 so in attendance will be my mom and dad my grandparents on my mom's side who are from Colorado they actually drove here. Dang and then my grandpa who is 96 and also a temple graduate so they will be in attendance crazy um so I think let's just do some quick math there that would be five people which I think is I think it's pretty fair.
SPEAKER_02And it you you you shared the family history so that's also cool. But flying in from color or driving in from Colorado is crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah they wouldn't miss it they're they're yeah they're very uh they're very passionate graduate wow and good thing you're so excited about graduating and being celebrated well they know I'm not like into that whole thing but they they they're like nonchalant they know I'm not into it so I think that just makes the day like a little bit more like like okay for them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01All right let's move to my my favorite segment Al or foul it's our last edition owl something that's don't cry something that's soaring upwards that would be for our American conference mascot Soar the Eagle by the way do you see Sor and uh you see him in Nashville?
SPEAKER_02No I did not well he he was on some things but I really wanted to see him okay didn't see him then we have our foul which is the opposite something that needs to be addressed. And I gotta say it one last time for those of you that don't know the American Conference is the only conference with a mascot Sore the Eagle is the one and only only one only conference.
SPEAKER_01Yeah owl this week would be graduation. Yeah congrats to all of our graduates especially our student athletes especially you Dave our student athletes that work tirelessly to achieve this um really like milestone um congrats to everyone and uh as always go als let's uh let's talk about the foul which is related to graduation ironically yes I mean everything's related to graduation now you're graduating tomorrow it's a it's a big deal it's a big deal but you know when you graduate you don't want to walk outside to wind and rain which is the wind has one also we talk about the wind a lot wind has been crazy this week wind's been crazy but it is weather is very bad rainy this week terrible but it's it's like on and off rain so people are gonna like not be prep prepared if it does rain so also like imagine I haven't put on the cap and gown like I mentioned but I just can't imagine getting that thing soaked because that'd be so uncomfortable there's a lot of material also cap and also the second foul is the price for a cap and gown 80 bucks is is absurd.
SPEAKER_00And the hood and stuff for a one time use that's insane.
SPEAKER_02You should be able to rent it like why are we not doing that?
SPEAKER_00Massive Fugazi is the cost of a cap and gown yeah one time use$80 get out of here unless you're taking grad picks then you get like two uses out of it and commencement there's three so that's uh not three for you it's like you know you're a one and done it's like you couldn't use your grandads from 75 years ago get out of the closet yeah might be a little dusty um but yeah that's the foul three fouls yeah but things are going well don't worry um we would probably keep going if we wanted to stop there before we get in trouble. Um all right that's about it for us yeah thank you again Amelia it's been a pleasure it's been fun great job um thank you to the Owl Faithful thank you to the Owl Faithful um maybe you'll hear our voices next year if they bring us back if not hopefully it's been an absolute pleasure was a blast go owls uh never stop supporting the owls yeah I know I won't um that's it yeah hope everyone has a great summer have a great summer season one is over that's a wrap goodbye
