This reflection shows that peace flows from restored relationship with God and is sustained by His ongoing presence, not by stable circumstances. It invites us to remain rooted in that relationship, trusting that His love holds steady even through difficulty.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”
Today I am reading Romans five, verses one through five. Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory. We can rejoice too when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment, for we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. We spent the previous two weeks looking at peace, so this might come across as redundant. However, I would make the case that since there are so many different examples of peace with God throughout Scripture, we can't talk about it enough. Paul describes peace to the Romans as something that comes through Jesus. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Peace begins in relationship. It's not about how life feels, it's about what's been made true. Through Jesus, the distance between God and humanity is no longer what it was. There's reconciliation, there's restored access, there's a new standing before God. That becomes the foundation. From there, Paul traces how that peace holds even as life remains difficult. He speaks about suffering, perseverance, and the formation of character. None of those are removed. They are part of the reality believers still live in, but they're no longer disconnected from hope. Hope doesn't put us to shame because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Peace is sustained by that love, not as an idea, but as something experienced through the presence of the Spirit. God is not only the one who restores relationship, he's the one who remains present within it. And that brings everything together. Trust in Jesus leads to restored relationship. Restored relationship leads to peace that's not dependent on circumstances remaining steady. It's grounded in the reality that God is present and his love is active. Abiding takes shape in that space. Not by avoiding difficulty, but remaining rooted in what's already been made true. Before I close in prayer, here's a question to wrestle with.
