This reflection shows that the fruit God desires is formed gradually through the Spirit’s work within us rather than through pressure or self-produced effort. It invites us to walk more closely with the Spirit and trust that lasting transformation grows through ongoing connection with God.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”
Today I'm reading Galatians five verses twenty two through twenty six. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
SPEAKER_00The process of growing fruit is a slow one. You rarely notice growth happening in real time.
SPEAKER_01It develops gradually through steady nourishment, healthy roots, and time. The same is true spiritually. Transformation is often quieter and slower than we would prefer. Paul describes that transformation in Galatians 5. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. What stands out immediately is the source of the fruit. It's not called the fruit of discipline, personality, or effort. It's the fruit of the spirit. These qualities grow out of a life shaped by ongoing dependence on God's presence within us. That doesn't mean effort disappears altogether. Growth still requires surrender, responsiveness, and daily choices, but the emphasis changes. Spiritual maturity is not ultimately something we manufacture through pressure or performance. Fruit grows from connection. Paul contrasts life led by the Spirit with life driven by the desires of the flesh. One turns inward towards self-rule, the other learns to walk in step with the Spirit's leading. Walking in step suggests attentiveness, dependence, ongoing relationship rather than occasional spiritual activity. It reflects the same kind of abiding Jesus describes in John 15. Branches do not force fruit into existence. They remain connected to the source of life, and over time, fruit begins to appear naturally. That perspective should reshape how we think about growth. It can be tempting to measure spiritual maturity by visible productivity or quick results. But the spirit's work is often deeper and slower than that. God is not simply interested in outward behavior. He's forming a different kind of person from the inside out.
SPEAKER_00And that kind of fruit cannot be rushed. Before I close in prayer, here's a question to wrestle with.
SPEAKER_01Which fruit of the Spirit do I most long to see grow in my life right now? And what might it look like to walk more closely with the Spirit in that area? Holy Spirit, continue your work within me. Teach me to walk closely with you and to trust that lasting transformation grows through remaining connected to your presence day by day.
