What's up, everybody?
SPEAKER_02What's up, what's up? Welcome back. This is Once Upon a Time in Music. I'm El. I'm Cheryl Poison. And we're back for another episode where we talk about everything dealing with the past or, you know, just good history stuff, you know,
SPEAKER_00music. Some of everything.
SPEAKER_02Food.
SPEAKER_00Movies. TV shows.
SPEAKER_02Toys.
SPEAKER_00You name it.
SPEAKER_02Cartoons. Anything 80s, 90s. You know, the past. It brings back memories.
SPEAKER_00Last from the past.
SPEAKER_02Yep, yep. And we might as well get into it. What's today's show about?
SPEAKER_00Today we're talking about characters from our favorite shows. Oh
SPEAKER_02yeah, favorite 90s and 80s characters. It was one character I picked. It's an honorable mention. Because it was, like, at the borderline of, like, 2000. It was, like, might have been 2001 or 2002. But that'll be my honorable mention. Besides that, what else we got going on? What have you been watching? I know you've been watching something.
SPEAKER_00I'm still watching Oz. I got to finish up with Oz. And after that, I think I'm going to watch Claws.
SPEAKER_02Claws?
SPEAKER_00With Nash? With Niecy Nash. My sister was telling me about that, so...
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_00I never watched that one. I never watched it either, so I'm going to see what she's talking about.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I've been watching a little bit of, you know, a whole bunch of other stuff, but I guess we could talk about our flashback movies. You got one for this week?
SPEAKER_00I don't have one. No. I don't have one.
SPEAKER_02What? What? Miss prepared isn't prepared. Not prepared. Nah, it's cool. My flashback movie for this week is Purple Rain.
UNKNOWNOkay.
SPEAKER_02I sat and watched it, you know, yesterday. I think it was yesterday. And this got to be like the best musical of all time.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I think so.
SPEAKER_02Because
SPEAKER_00basically that's what it is. It's a musical.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And we really don't realize it until we think about it. All the songs that we like.
SPEAKER_00That's a good movie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was a good movie. That was. That was with Prince, Ablonia. The
SPEAKER_00Time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Morris Day, The Time.
SPEAKER_00Let me say Morris. Morris was so cool in Purple Rain. He's
SPEAKER_02cool everywhere. Yeah, you're right. You're right. He's just a cool kind of guy, but I didn't realize he's just playing a character.
SPEAKER_00You don't think he act a little bit like that in real life?
SPEAKER_02Now, probably, because he's been doing it so long, but... When Prince found him, he was friends with Prince, and he was trying to get his own band and stuff like that, but it never linked up.
SPEAKER_00The Time got some good music,
SPEAKER_02too. They do. Fishnets, Black Pantyhose, The Bird. Is it The
SPEAKER_00Bird? Do The Bird.
SPEAKER_02Who else
SPEAKER_00is on this? 777-9311. That's my favorite one. That's my favorite. That's my favorite.
SPEAKER_02Whenever we're playing cards, and... They ask, what's wild? I always say seven. And I always sing that song.
SPEAKER_00You always sing that song? Always. That's a catchy thing.
SPEAKER_02Clarence Williams III, you know who he is,
SPEAKER_00right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He's,
SPEAKER_00what else, what he was in? He played in Tales from the Hood.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. He
SPEAKER_00was
SPEAKER_02the, ooh, the boopity pop. Mm-hmm. He said, what'd he say? How'd he say it?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, you want that shit.
SPEAKER_02I got that shit. Yeah, that's him. But there was a lot of stars in it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Apollonia. What's the three girls that sing too?
SPEAKER_02Was
SPEAKER_00the Mary Jane girls in there?
SPEAKER_02Nah, I think Apollonia 6 was the name of the group.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02But the funny thing about it, Apollonia wasn't supposed to be in the movie.
SPEAKER_00I get them two mixed up, Apollonia and Vanity. I don't know who is who. I think they're the same person and trying to trick
SPEAKER_02us. Vanity was supposed to be the person in that movie. She was dating Prince at the time, and they fell out. So Prince went and got like a super lookalike.
SPEAKER_00He's like, I don't need you. I got me a
SPEAKER_02girl to fill you. Which is Apollonia. But I think I like Vanity better.
SPEAKER_00I can't tell them apart, so I don't know who it is. For real?
SPEAKER_02For real. Watch it now. Because I think Apollonia looks more Caucasian than Vanity. I think that's the difference.
SPEAKER_00That was a good movie. I might want to
SPEAKER_02watch that. Purple Rain?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Just to hear the songs.
SPEAKER_02You got to purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka. So she does it.
SPEAKER_00Prince. Girl Prince. Rest in peace to Prince. Yeah, Prince was cool. The only guy in heels that can steal your girl. Mr. Steal Your Girl himself.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're right about that. So that was the movie I watched. Purple Rain. 1984, a classic.
SPEAKER_00Classic?
SPEAKER_02To me, the number one musical of all time.
SPEAKER_00I may have to give you that one.
SPEAKER_02It's a close one. What's those other black and white ones? The Sound of Music? You can't compare. You can't compare it with it.
SPEAKER_00I like the sound of music, though.
SPEAKER_02You do?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You watched it?
SPEAKER_00I watched it. I did a play back in elementary school. I was one of the little kids. I can't remember which one. All
SPEAKER_02right. Well, that's the movie flashback of the week. And shoot, we could get into the topic.
SPEAKER_00All right. Let's get to it.
SPEAKER_02This week's topic is our favorite movie or TV show character.
SPEAKER_00All right, you go first.
SPEAKER_02All right. I'll go first. My first one is B.A. Baracus. You
SPEAKER_00know who that is? No.
SPEAKER_02B.A. Baracus is Mr. T on...
SPEAKER_00Oh, no.
SPEAKER_021983 to 1987. Is
SPEAKER_00that really his name?
SPEAKER_02A TV show. No, that was his name on the show. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, B.A. Baracus. Yep. From 1983 to 1987, a show called... The A-Team. The A-Team. And everything else, B.A. played in was Mr.
SPEAKER_00T. I like the main guy, the main white one.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. I love it when a plane comes together. What was his name? Was it Lieutenant something?
SPEAKER_00Man, I haven't seen A-Team in...
SPEAKER_02That was a super classic back in the day.
SPEAKER_00That was.
SPEAKER_02That goes up in the Car Hall of Fame, like... You know, back in the day, if you had a car in your show, it was a classic. Like, the Dukes of Hazzard had, you know, the General
SPEAKER_00Lee. The General Lee.
SPEAKER_02And Knight Rider had Kit. Kit. The A-Team had the black van with the red stripe.
SPEAKER_00The black
SPEAKER_02van. So, Magnum P.I. had the Ferrari.
SPEAKER_00Wagner was cool, too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he was. He was. That's my first one, B.A. Baracus, also known as Mr. T. Or Lawrence, I can't pronounce his last name, Tiburon or Tibdo. I'm going to
SPEAKER_00have to watch the episode just so I can hear him say that name. That don't even ring a bell to me. What, B.A. Baracus?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they call him B.A.
SPEAKER_00Now, my memory is bad, but I sure don't remember that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'll look it up for you.
SPEAKER_00All right, I'm going to go with mine.
SPEAKER_02What you got?
SPEAKER_00I got Sonny Crockett. Oh, yeah. Miami Vice. He was. The coolest. The coolest. The coolest. No, no, no, no,
SPEAKER_02no, no. Hold
SPEAKER_00on. Him and Ricardo. Yeah. Ricardo Tubbs. Philip Michael Thomas. They were both equally cool.
SPEAKER_02Have you watched it recently?
SPEAKER_00I haven't.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I watched it probably. It's possibly the end of last year. Probably around December. I started watching it from.
SPEAKER_00The beginning to the end?
SPEAKER_02Episode one. There were so many stars in that. I
SPEAKER_00said I wanted to start watching it.
SPEAKER_02Every single episode had a guest, like the Fat Boys or New Edition.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you make me want to go back and watch it. It's been years since I watched them, but I just know they was cool. It was good. My favorite episode was whichever episode they had in the air tonight by Phil Collins. That was the coolest. When
SPEAKER_02he went, that was... I kind of want to say that was the first episode, second episode.
SPEAKER_00All I know, they was driving in the car and the song was playing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they didn't talk to each other. They just was riding. They must have been about to go do something. Yeah, they was going to kill. I think that's either when the lieutenant got killed. You know who used to be the lieutenant?
SPEAKER_00I can't remember.
SPEAKER_02Well... The Spanish guy with the. Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_00I know who you're talking about. Yeah. I
SPEAKER_02didn't realize he was the second lieutenant. The first lieutenant got killed.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you make me want to watch it.
SPEAKER_02You know who the first lieutenant was?
SPEAKER_00Who?
SPEAKER_02Al Bundy.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Not Al.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I can't really see Al doing too much serious stuff after Married with Children.
SPEAKER_02Right. Right. Oh,
SPEAKER_00yeah, you watched that.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, I just watched it probably last December. All right, well, I got a classic. His name was Michael Knight. That's an easy one, right? Yeah. Michael Knight, also known as David Hasselhoff, on a show called Knight Rider. Knight Rider. Yep, the show ran from 1982 to 1986. But... People still watch it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't even, I didn't realize it was only four years.
SPEAKER_00And they got the best theme music.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That little. Yeah. Didn't someone make a song from that?
SPEAKER_02Busta Rhymes. Busta Rhymes did that. What was the name of that
SPEAKER_00song? I was thinking it was Timbaland.
SPEAKER_02Timbaland did the beat. Oh, okay. No, Timbaland did do one too, I think.
SPEAKER_00That's what I was thinking. It was Timbaland.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. We got to find that. So now, that's my next one. Okay, that was a good one. Yeah, Michael Knight.
SPEAKER_00Michael Knight. Okay, since we was talking about Al Bundy, that's my next one. Married with Children. For real? I love Al Bundy.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy. We just brought him
SPEAKER_00up. Yeah, Al is retarded.
SPEAKER_02So you don't like him in anything else. Probably just that, right?
SPEAKER_00No, I like him in... There was a movie he was in. It's called Dutch. I think that's the name of it. But he was like the same character in that, right? No, he was toned down. You ever watch that?
SPEAKER_02I thought I did, but...
SPEAKER_00It's about him and a little boy, his girlfriend's son. He had to go pick him up from private school, and the little boy was giving him all kind of hell.
SPEAKER_02Oh, no, I didn't see that one there.
SPEAKER_00It's a pretty cool movie. Yeah? That was the first time I ever seen him outside of Married with Children.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's... He had the 90s in a chokehold.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He is Al Bundy.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Whenever you see him,
SPEAKER_00he's Al Bundy. Yeah, he's Al Bundy. He's nothing else but Al Bundy.
SPEAKER_02I wonder if that's a curse. You know how some actors...
SPEAKER_00No, not if it's a good show.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00If it's a
SPEAKER_02classic
SPEAKER_00show.
SPEAKER_02You know what? What show he played in? Was that Modern Family? Modern Family. He's pretty good on that, too. He was good on that. Yep, yep. Yep. All right. Well, my next one is... I say the name, you already got to know the movie. Leroy Green.
UNKNOWNDo I know Leroy Green?
SPEAKER_02You don't know? Oh, okay. Well, Leroy Green. Leroy Green.
SPEAKER_00Once you say the
SPEAKER_02name, I'm going to know it. His real name is Ty Mack. 1985, a movie called The Last Dragon.
UNKNOWNOkay.
SPEAKER_02Bruce
SPEAKER_00Leroy is Leroy Gray. Yes, okay. Now, if you would have said Bruce Leroy, I would have knew. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that was a good movie.
SPEAKER_02That was a close runner-up for a musical for me, because I think that might have been a musical, right? No, it wasn't a musical. It was just a, it had a strong soundtrack.
SPEAKER_00Who was his little arch-nemesis in that? The little guy with the ponytail. That's how I wear my hair, half up, half down.
SPEAKER_02Danny Arcadia?
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Oh, show enough.
SPEAKER_00Show enough.
SPEAKER_02Show enough. So you're going to have to put a picture of you
SPEAKER_00with your hair
SPEAKER_02like that.
SPEAKER_00That's my signature style. Half up, half down. In fact, I think I got a show enough tattoo
SPEAKER_02on my leg. Really? Yeah, I just realized
SPEAKER_00that. We both like show enough.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Leroy Green, also known as Bruce Leroy Green. 1985, The Last Dragon.
SPEAKER_00Was Apollonia in that too? One of them was in it.
SPEAKER_02Who was that? That was Vanity. That was Vanity? Yeah. They look the same, y'all. I think they both end up having a drug habit too.
SPEAKER_00Aww.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Such pretty girls.
SPEAKER_02Press number seven. That's how you get to seven. Seven? Yeah, that was, I can't, my singing's trash.
SPEAKER_00Don't quit your day job, though. Yes. Where's the wisdom?
SPEAKER_01Oh,
SPEAKER_02okay. Okay, okay. What you got?
SPEAKER_00I'm going to go with Roger Thomas.
SPEAKER_02Oh, of course.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Come on, you can't do the dance,
SPEAKER_00can you?
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_02Come on. Okay, okay, okay. We doing the dance. Go
SPEAKER_00ahead. I love me some Roger Thomas. So,
SPEAKER_02where's he from? I
SPEAKER_00can't remember where they was set from.
SPEAKER_02Okay, then.
SPEAKER_00I can see the...
SPEAKER_02Well, let the people know the show.
SPEAKER_00What's happening?
SPEAKER_02Because they're like, Roger Thomas?
SPEAKER_00What's happening?
SPEAKER_02I'm surprised you didn't say Dwayne.
SPEAKER_00No, I like Roger. He had more... You know, Dwayne was kind of shy and would never really talk to people. Yeah. Roger was going to talk no matter what. MN rerun was definitely talking to everybody. He was going to get the... Roger got all the girls. Wow. Roger did get the
SPEAKER_02girls. I only remember like one girlfriend.
SPEAKER_00Roger was getting girls.
SPEAKER_02And that one girlfriend was the newer one, the... What's
SPEAKER_00happening now? I didn't really like that one too much with the wife. He got married.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, who was that wife?
SPEAKER_00Roger was getting girls. Go back and watch it. Yeah,
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have to check it out then. Don't sleep on Roger Thomas. Roger Thomas. What about Dee? You didn't like Dee? Dee got on my nerves.
SPEAKER_00Back then, she was like the bratty little sister. All the smart talk and stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I liked her, but then...
SPEAKER_02That was a thing back in the day. Yeah. The smarty pants kid. You know, that's when... Who else was out then? What's his name? Gary Coleman? There's one on every show. Yeah, there was. There was. That's probably why we so slick in the mouth right now.
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Because I know
SPEAKER_02I am. All right. My next one is... I could say the name, and you know what? I'll say his real name, Sherman Hensley.
SPEAKER_00Amen, or the Jeffersons?
SPEAKER_02The Jeffersons,
SPEAKER_00George Jefferson. George Jefferson with the walk.
SPEAKER_02Yep, 1975 it started.
SPEAKER_00I still watch the Jeffersons now. You do? If I turn and see it, I'm going
SPEAKER_02to watch it. Which son do you like?
SPEAKER_00I like... Lionel.
SPEAKER_02This is Lionel, right?
SPEAKER_00I like the second son, I think.
SPEAKER_02Not the light-skinned
SPEAKER_00one. Not the light-skinned one. The brown one. Yeah. I like that
SPEAKER_02one. That's crazy. Which
SPEAKER_00one you like?
SPEAKER_02I think the brown one, too.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Because the first one.
SPEAKER_00He didn't really fit with them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. He did fit with Jenny, but he didn't fit with the show to me.
SPEAKER_00I don't think he fit with Jenny. He didn't fit with nobody.
SPEAKER_02And he was getting in trouble. I think he mouthed off to George one time about something.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember. Let's go with the second. The second line. I hate when they do that in shows. Don't switch the character up and act like we ain't gonna see. Only certain ones get away with it, though. I don't
SPEAKER_02like when they do that. The only one that really got away with it and nobody was mad was my wife and kids. Oh, with the daughter. They switched out the dark
SPEAKER_00skin one. Is that Claire? I like Claire. I like the second Claire.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the light skin. Yeah. The goofy one. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Because that first one was the smart talking person. Yeah, she
SPEAKER_02was. She was. They got away with that one. That's My next one, well, my last one was George Jefferson, 1975. George Jefferson. The Jeffersons. But I probably wasn't watching in 1975. You don't think so? No, I wasn't even born in 1975. Oh. I was watching it probably, let's say, 84, 85. I didn't
SPEAKER_00realize it was that old.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_0075? Okay, George.
SPEAKER_02You know it's a spinoff too, right?
SPEAKER_00From the Archie Bunker.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they was the neighbors.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_02So that was my next one.
SPEAKER_00All right. My next one is the nanny, Fran Fine. What was it? Fran Fine. What's her real name? Fran Drescher.
SPEAKER_02Fran Drescher. Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She was the flyest. I just wanted to watch to see what she was going to wear. You know what? I saw...
SPEAKER_02It was something I saw where they was showing... I think it might have been her and the one from Living Single. Kim? Kim Fields? Kim Fields. They were wearing the same outfits all the time. Yeah. I never really watched that show too much. Living Single or The Nanny? The Nanny. Yeah, I didn't watch that too
SPEAKER_00much. I liked The Nanny.
SPEAKER_02You still watching now? Because I think it still comes on, don't it?
SPEAKER_00I don't watch it, but my daughter likes it. She watches it a lot. Get out of here.
SPEAKER_02How old is your daughter?
SPEAKER_00My daughter's 26. She loves The Nanny. For real?
SPEAKER_02Well, I guess she's old enough to watch it.
SPEAKER_00She got an old soul.
SPEAKER_02I wonder where she
SPEAKER_00got it from. I wonder where.
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, my next one, this is a crazy one. The 80s, he was just so popular. And he was so popular, he dropped two different movies in the same year, one in August and the other one in July. I'm talking about Marty McFly, also known as Michael J. Fox.
SPEAKER_00Not Marty
SPEAKER_02McFly. Yeah, Marty McFly. He was cool. He was cool. He was. All the Back to the Futures. So, August 1985, Teen Wolf came out. You remember Teen
SPEAKER_00Wolf? Yes, I remember Teen Wolf.
SPEAKER_02And then July 1985, the first Back to the Future came out.
SPEAKER_00He was doing it big that year.
SPEAKER_02That was... People
SPEAKER_00don't usually do that.
SPEAKER_02Drop two movies in one year? Back in those days?
SPEAKER_00Back to back.
SPEAKER_02Okay. You were lucky enough to see your favorite actor on... You know, once a year drop, you know, come out in a movie.
SPEAKER_00I like Michael J. Fox. I watch him on The Good Wife. It's a law show.
SPEAKER_02Is that now?
SPEAKER_00No, it's an old show.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Maybe like in the 2000s. I'll be watching the reruns.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Yeah, Michael J. Fox or also the character I like. Marty McFly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because he had a TV show, too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Family Ties.
SPEAKER_00Family Ties.
SPEAKER_02Yep, Family Ties.
SPEAKER_00So that probably was around the same time, too. Yep. So he was doing the show and doing it. I'm going to go with classic Claire Huxtable.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Claire was so fancy.
SPEAKER_02So did you like her better than Bill?
SPEAKER_00Yes, I did.
SPEAKER_02Well, better than Theo?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Better than Rudy?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I just liked her little attitude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah,
SPEAKER_00she... And she was cute and so fancy. I was like, oh, look at the little fancy black mom.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I did like her, too. I like her.
SPEAKER_00They didn't have too many fancy black moms back then.
SPEAKER_02She didn't play that much stuff, like, during those times,
SPEAKER_00either. Yeah, it was just the Cosby show.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You know, after the Cosby show was over, then, you know, you happened to see her in a movie like... I
SPEAKER_00like
SPEAKER_02Claire. The recent movie was what? Black Panther. She was the mother. Yeah. I know I got that one right.
SPEAKER_00I can't remember it.
SPEAKER_02Black Panther wasn't that good, so don't worry.
SPEAKER_00She was on something else, though, too. Something lately. She been getting more roles lately, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yep. All right. I got one more, but the show started in 92. I mean, I'm sorry. The show started in 2002. And he might be your favorite also. If you saw this series, Michael K. Williams, also known as Omar.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yes. He's one of my favorites on that show.
SPEAKER_02Who else do you like? Bodhi?
SPEAKER_00I
SPEAKER_02like
SPEAKER_00Bodhi.
SPEAKER_02It was over once those two got killed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it wasn't the same. I don't think they should have killed both of them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't think they should have
SPEAKER_00killed him. I like Snoop, too, even though Snoop was killing everybody. I like Snoop's character.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Snoop was good. They
SPEAKER_00had a lot of good characters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because Bubbles.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I like Bubbles.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they had a whole bunch of characters on that one.
SPEAKER_00I like the little young guys.
SPEAKER_02Michael K. Williams? I mean, Michael B. Jordan.
SPEAKER_00He was all right, but I like the, not the one with the little curly ponytail. I didn't like him too much.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_00I like the one who was killing with Snoop and what was the other guy's name?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, his name is Michael. Yeah. Michael. Yeah. It's about time for me to start watching The Wire again, get back into it. Because I used to watch
SPEAKER_00it. Do you watch it every year?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, once a
SPEAKER_00year. I don't watch it every year, but I like to keep up with it. And it's like it's fresh every time I watch it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That and The Sopranos, I watch once a year.
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_02And I do have one more. I'm sorry, I forgot mine. All right. You might not know this one.
SPEAKER_00I might.
SPEAKER_02Pauly Walnuts.
SPEAKER_00Ain't that from The Sopranos? Yeah. That's your extra?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, that was
SPEAKER_00mine. I like Pauly. Pauly was one of the good ones.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 1999 to 2007. a small show called The Sopranos on HBO.
SPEAKER_00What do you think happened at the end? Do you like the ending?
SPEAKER_02At the time, no.
SPEAKER_00I don't like it either.
SPEAKER_02But if you sit and watch it now, towards the end of the season, stuff just started falling apart. I don't know if it was the writing, but just so much went on. they was able to just like turn the lights off and walk out.
SPEAKER_00I didn't like that. I didn't like how they left like a cliffhanger. Like you decide what happened. I want to know what happened.
SPEAKER_02It could have, it should have got a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I invested all my time in all those seasons and you just going to end it like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I think they should have did a little song. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's a good series though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I watched that once a year. Um, I guess that's it.
SPEAKER_00I got an extra one. You got another one? Yeah. All right, what's that? I'm going to go with Maxine Shaw. Okay. Living Single. Sing the song. We are living single in a 90s kind of world. Yeah, that was my show. I still watch that to this day. I watch it a lot.
SPEAKER_02I think I watched it because there was nothing else on at the time.
SPEAKER_00I like it. I like Queen Latifah too. I like Maxine. I like Queen Latifah.
SPEAKER_02I like Queen Latifah.
SPEAKER_00Khadija. Khadija James.
SPEAKER_02I don't think they showed enough of her.
SPEAKER_00Why? She was like in every episode.
SPEAKER_02It was something about it.
SPEAKER_00I liked it. That was a good show. Maybe you need to go back and revisit.
SPEAKER_02Nah, I couldn't do
SPEAKER_00it.
SPEAKER_02I couldn't do it. I don't think I'll be able to watch, like, more than
SPEAKER_00one episode. I like it. That's one of my favorite shows.
SPEAKER_02Kim Fields is my favorite in it.
SPEAKER_00Really? Kim Fields is my favorite in, daggone,
SPEAKER_02Facts of Life. Facts of Life?
SPEAKER_00I like Joe in the Facts of Life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the tomboy? Yeah, the tomboy. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. I like Joe. Joe was cool. Yeah. Is she still alive? I don't know. I think so. I think so.
SPEAKER_00I don't think none of them have passed away. Okay. Well,
SPEAKER_02I think I'm done with mine. I'm done with mine, too. Let's jump into snack time.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_02Snack time is, I guess, a segment of the show where we talk about food, snacks, or, you know, it could be from the past or it could be from
SPEAKER_00now. Something that we wish we had.
SPEAKER_02Yep, exactly. Something that we wish they still made or something like that.
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_02You can start it off. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_00All right. I'm going to go with Chocodiles. What's that? That's a little snack cake from Hostess. They don't make them no more.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy. I got to find a picture of it.
SPEAKER_00It's like a sponge. They say it's a Twinkie with chocolate on it, but they don't taste like a Twinkie. I don't like Twinkies, but I like those.
SPEAKER_02So it's chocolate over the Twinkie?
SPEAKER_00Yes. That's what they say it is.
SPEAKER_02They made those too,
SPEAKER_00though. They make Twinkies, but... A Twinkie and a Chocodile eat the same thing. The cake inside don't taste the same. Chocodile? A Chocodile.
SPEAKER_02That sounds crazy.
SPEAKER_00It's good.
SPEAKER_02I got to see a picture of it. It's good. Mine is 1959 they made this drink.
UNKNOWNYoo-hoo.
SPEAKER_02Nope. It came in a glass jar and you mixed it. They say it's a drink for astronauts back in the day.
SPEAKER_00If you say tang...
SPEAKER_02It is tang.
SPEAKER_00You like tang? Yeah, back in the day, tang was it. Tang ain't nothing but sunny delight.
SPEAKER_02No, it ain't sunny delight. It's more like an orange-flavored Kool-Aid. But either way, it's a powdered substance that you put inside water, mix it, and then you got tang.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I ever had tang before in my life. For
SPEAKER_02real? For real. Man, back in
SPEAKER_00the 80s? It remind me
SPEAKER_02of...
SPEAKER_00Sunny Delight. And I don't like Sunny Delight. No, it
SPEAKER_02look like Sunny Delight, but it don't taste like it.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what Tang is. I just, I don't think I ever had that. Yeah, that's
SPEAKER_02crazy. I'm gonna get you some
SPEAKER_00Tang.
SPEAKER_02I don't want no Tang.
SPEAKER_00Why not? Where you gonna find Tang from? They
SPEAKER_02still make it.
SPEAKER_00Just give me some Kool-Aid.
SPEAKER_02Nah, I'm gonna surprise you with some Tang next week.
SPEAKER_00I don't want no Tang. What it taste like?
SPEAKER_02I'll let you taste it.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to taste it. You want to know.
SPEAKER_02You want
SPEAKER_00to know. I just want you to tell me.
SPEAKER_02It tastes like yellow. It tastes like the orange-flavored Kool-Aid. Oh, okay. No?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Just give me some
SPEAKER_02Tropical Punch Kool-Aid. All right. Well, I got a couple Spotlight albums from the past.
SPEAKER_00All right, let's hear it.
SPEAKER_02Before we get out of here. 34 years ago, August 1991... a group called Cyphers Hill. They came out and they dropped a song called Kill a Man. And songs like this, songs like Hand on a Pump, they were all classics from this album. Self-titled Cyphers Hill, 1991. 1991.
SPEAKER_00Give me something you can't understand. Look at this girl, man.
SPEAKER_02Yep. What really made it popular is when it was on the Juice movie. Mm-hmm. The scene in the elevator. Everybody knows that scene. And I also have an R&B CD from 1996. 1996 was how many years? 29 years ago. And... This artist was new at the time. Well, this is probably the artist's second album. Her name is Aaliyah. One in a Million.
SPEAKER_00That was a good album.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it was. It was. They had songs like this, Hot Like Fire. Four Page Letter. Four Page Letter. It was a good album. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_00I think that was when she switched over to Timbaland producing.
SPEAKER_02The best thing she could do ever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They
SPEAKER_02had good chemistry together. The best thing anybody could do ever. Because like, Genuine, Justin Timberlake, go back to Timbaland. He gonna get you right. Go back to Timbaland. Always. And I think that was it. I think that was all I had for the week. Hope I could
SPEAKER_00just kill a man. If your girl only knew, that's my favorite. Yeah. Choosy lover. Well. Yeah, Aaliyah had some good ones.
SPEAKER_02Let's send it on out here with this Aaliyah then. That's this week's episode of Once Upon a Time in Music. I'm Elle. I'm Cheryl Poison. And we
SPEAKER_00out. See ya!
