SPEAKER_00:

What's up, everybody?

SPEAKER_02:

What's up, what's up? Welcome back. This is Once Upon a Time in Music. I'm El. I'm Cheryl Poison. And we're back for another episode where we talk about everything dealing with the past or, you know, just good history stuff, you know,

SPEAKER_00:

music. Some of everything.

SPEAKER_02:

Food.

SPEAKER_00:

Movies. TV shows.

SPEAKER_02:

Toys.

SPEAKER_00:

You name it.

SPEAKER_02:

Cartoons. Anything 80s, 90s. You know, the past. It brings back memories.

SPEAKER_00:

Last from the past.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep, yep. And we might as well get into it. What's today's show about?

SPEAKER_00:

Today we're talking about characters from our favorite shows. Oh

SPEAKER_02:

yeah, favorite 90s and 80s characters. It was one character I picked. It's an honorable mention. Because it was, like, at the borderline of, like, 2000. It was, like, might have been 2001 or 2002. But that'll be my honorable mention. Besides that, what else we got going on? What have you been watching? I know you've been watching something.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm still watching Oz. I got to finish up with Oz. And after that, I think I'm going to watch Claws.

SPEAKER_02:

Claws?

SPEAKER_00:

With Nash? With Niecy Nash. My sister was telling me about that, so...

SPEAKER_02:

All right.

SPEAKER_00:

I never watched that one. I never watched it either, so I'm going to see what she's talking about.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. I've been watching a little bit of, you know, a whole bunch of other stuff, but I guess we could talk about our flashback movies. You got one for this week?

SPEAKER_00:

I don't have one. No. I don't have one.

SPEAKER_02:

What? What? Miss prepared isn't prepared. Not prepared. Nah, it's cool. My flashback movie for this week is Purple Rain.

UNKNOWN:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

I sat and watched it, you know, yesterday. I think it was yesterday. And this got to be like the best musical of all time.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, I think so.

SPEAKER_02:

Because

SPEAKER_00:

basically that's what it is. It's a musical.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. And we really don't realize it until we think about it. All the songs that we like.

SPEAKER_00:

That's a good movie.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that was a good movie. That was. That was with Prince, Ablonia. The

SPEAKER_00:

Time.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, Morris Day, The Time.

SPEAKER_00:

Let me say Morris. Morris was so cool in Purple Rain. He's

SPEAKER_02:

cool everywhere. Yeah, you're right. You're right. He's just a cool kind of guy, but I didn't realize he's just playing a character.

SPEAKER_00:

You don't think he act a little bit like that in real life?

SPEAKER_02:

Now, probably, because he's been doing it so long, but... When Prince found him, he was friends with Prince, and he was trying to get his own band and stuff like that, but it never linked up.

SPEAKER_00:

The Time got some good music,

SPEAKER_02:

too. They do. Fishnets, Black Pantyhose, The Bird. Is it The

SPEAKER_00:

Bird? Do The Bird.

SPEAKER_02:

Who else

SPEAKER_00:

is on this? 777-9311. That's my favorite one. That's my favorite. That's my favorite.

SPEAKER_02:

Whenever we're playing cards, and... They ask, what's wild? I always say seven. And I always sing that song.

SPEAKER_00:

You always sing that song? Always. That's a catchy thing.

SPEAKER_02:

Clarence Williams III, you know who he is,

SPEAKER_00:

right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

He's,

SPEAKER_00:

what else, what he was in? He played in Tales from the Hood.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah. He

SPEAKER_00:

was

SPEAKER_02:

the, ooh, the boopity pop. Mm-hmm. He said, what'd he say? How'd he say it?

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yeah, you want that shit.

SPEAKER_02:

I got that shit. Yeah, that's him. But there was a lot of stars in it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, Apollonia. What's the three girls that sing too?

SPEAKER_02:

Was

SPEAKER_00:

the Mary Jane girls in there?

SPEAKER_02:

Nah, I think Apollonia 6 was the name of the group.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

But the funny thing about it, Apollonia wasn't supposed to be in the movie.

SPEAKER_00:

I get them two mixed up, Apollonia and Vanity. I don't know who is who. I think they're the same person and trying to trick

SPEAKER_02:

us. Vanity was supposed to be the person in that movie. She was dating Prince at the time, and they fell out. So Prince went and got like a super lookalike.

SPEAKER_00:

He's like, I don't need you. I got me a

SPEAKER_02:

girl to fill you. Which is Apollonia. But I think I like Vanity better.

SPEAKER_00:

I can't tell them apart, so I don't know who it is. For real?

SPEAKER_02:

For real. Watch it now. Because I think Apollonia looks more Caucasian than Vanity. I think that's the difference.

SPEAKER_00:

That was a good movie. I might want to

SPEAKER_02:

watch that. Purple Rain?

SPEAKER_00:

Mm-hmm. Just to hear the songs.

SPEAKER_02:

You got to purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka. So she does it.

SPEAKER_00:

Prince. Girl Prince. Rest in peace to Prince. Yeah, Prince was cool. The only guy in heels that can steal your girl. Mr. Steal Your Girl himself.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, you're right about that. So that was the movie I watched. Purple Rain. 1984, a classic.

SPEAKER_00:

Classic?

SPEAKER_02:

To me, the number one musical of all time.

SPEAKER_00:

I may have to give you that one.

SPEAKER_02:

It's a close one. What's those other black and white ones? The Sound of Music? You can't compare. You can't compare it with it.

SPEAKER_00:

I like the sound of music, though.

SPEAKER_02:

You do?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

You watched it?

SPEAKER_00:

I watched it. I did a play back in elementary school. I was one of the little kids. I can't remember which one. All

SPEAKER_02:

right. Well, that's the movie flashback of the week. And shoot, we could get into the topic.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. Let's get to it.

SPEAKER_02:

This week's topic is our favorite movie or TV show character.

SPEAKER_00:

All right, you go first.

SPEAKER_02:

All right. I'll go first. My first one is B.A. Baracus. You

SPEAKER_00:

know who that is? No.

SPEAKER_02:

B.A. Baracus is Mr. T on...

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, no.

SPEAKER_02:

1983 to 1987. Is

SPEAKER_00:

that really his name?

SPEAKER_02:

A TV show. No, that was his name on the show. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, B.A. Baracus. Yep. From 1983 to 1987, a show called... The A-Team. The A-Team. And everything else, B.A. played in was Mr.

SPEAKER_00:

T. I like the main guy, the main white one.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah. I love it when a plane comes together. What was his name? Was it Lieutenant something?

SPEAKER_00:

Man, I haven't seen A-Team in...

SPEAKER_02:

That was a super classic back in the day.

SPEAKER_00:

That was.

SPEAKER_02:

That goes up in the Car Hall of Fame, like... You know, back in the day, if you had a car in your show, it was a classic. Like, the Dukes of Hazzard had, you know, the General

SPEAKER_00:

Lee. The General Lee.

SPEAKER_02:

And Knight Rider had Kit. Kit. The A-Team had the black van with the red stripe.

SPEAKER_00:

The black

SPEAKER_02:

van. So, Magnum P.I. had the Ferrari.

SPEAKER_00:

Wagner was cool, too.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, he was. He was. That's my first one, B.A. Baracus, also known as Mr. T. Or Lawrence, I can't pronounce his last name, Tiburon or Tibdo. I'm going to

SPEAKER_00:

have to watch the episode just so I can hear him say that name. That don't even ring a bell to me. What, B.A. Baracus?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they call him B.A.

SPEAKER_00:

Now, my memory is bad, but I sure don't remember that.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I'll look it up for you.

SPEAKER_00:

All right, I'm going to go with mine.

SPEAKER_02:

What you got?

SPEAKER_00:

I got Sonny Crockett. Oh, yeah. Miami Vice. He was. The coolest. The coolest. The coolest. No, no, no, no,

SPEAKER_02:

no, no. Hold

SPEAKER_00:

on. Him and Ricardo. Yeah. Ricardo Tubbs. Philip Michael Thomas. They were both equally cool.

SPEAKER_02:

Have you watched it recently?

SPEAKER_00:

I haven't.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay. I watched it probably. It's possibly the end of last year. Probably around December. I started watching it from.

SPEAKER_00:

The beginning to the end?

SPEAKER_02:

Episode one. There were so many stars in that. I

SPEAKER_00:

said I wanted to start watching it.

SPEAKER_02:

Every single episode had a guest, like the Fat Boys or New Edition.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, you make me want to go back and watch it. It's been years since I watched them, but I just know they was cool. It was good. My favorite episode was whichever episode they had in the air tonight by Phil Collins. That was the coolest. When

SPEAKER_02:

he went, that was... I kind of want to say that was the first episode, second episode.

SPEAKER_00:

All I know, they was driving in the car and the song was playing.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they didn't talk to each other. They just was riding. They must have been about to go do something. Yeah, they was going to kill. I think that's either when the lieutenant got killed. You know who used to be the lieutenant?

SPEAKER_00:

I can't remember.

SPEAKER_02:

Well... The Spanish guy with the. Oh, I know.

SPEAKER_00:

I know who you're talking about. Yeah. I

SPEAKER_02:

didn't realize he was the second lieutenant. The first lieutenant got killed.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, you make me want to watch it.

SPEAKER_02:

You know who the first lieutenant was?

SPEAKER_00:

Who?

SPEAKER_02:

Al Bundy.

SPEAKER_00:

No.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Not Al.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

I can't really see Al doing too much serious stuff after Married with Children.

SPEAKER_02:

Right. Right. Oh,

SPEAKER_00:

yeah, you watched that.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah, I just watched it probably last December. All right, well, I got a classic. His name was Michael Knight. That's an easy one, right? Yeah. Michael Knight, also known as David Hasselhoff, on a show called Knight Rider. Knight Rider. Yep, the show ran from 1982 to 1986. But... People still watch it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I don't even, I didn't realize it was only four years.

SPEAKER_00:

And they got the best theme music.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

That little. Yeah. Didn't someone make a song from that?

SPEAKER_02:

Busta Rhymes. Busta Rhymes did that. What was the name of that

SPEAKER_00:

song? I was thinking it was Timbaland.

SPEAKER_02:

Timbaland did the beat. Oh, okay. No, Timbaland did do one too, I think.

SPEAKER_00:

That's what I was thinking. It was Timbaland.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah. We got to find that. So now, that's my next one. Okay, that was a good one. Yeah, Michael Knight.

SPEAKER_00:

Michael Knight. Okay, since we was talking about Al Bundy, that's my next one. Married with Children. For real? I love Al Bundy.

SPEAKER_02:

That's crazy. We just brought him

SPEAKER_00:

up. Yeah, Al is retarded.

SPEAKER_02:

So you don't like him in anything else. Probably just that, right?

SPEAKER_00:

No, I like him in... There was a movie he was in. It's called Dutch. I think that's the name of it. But he was like the same character in that, right? No, he was toned down. You ever watch that?

SPEAKER_02:

I thought I did, but...

SPEAKER_00:

It's about him and a little boy, his girlfriend's son. He had to go pick him up from private school, and the little boy was giving him all kind of hell.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, no, I didn't see that one there.

SPEAKER_00:

It's a pretty cool movie. Yeah? That was the first time I ever seen him outside of Married with Children.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, he's... He had the 90s in a chokehold.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. He is Al Bundy.

SPEAKER_02:

Exactly. Whenever you see him,

SPEAKER_00:

he's Al Bundy. Yeah, he's Al Bundy. He's nothing else but Al Bundy.

SPEAKER_02:

I wonder if that's a curse. You know how some actors...

SPEAKER_00:

No, not if it's a good show.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

If it's a

SPEAKER_02:

classic

SPEAKER_00:

show.

SPEAKER_02:

You know what? What show he played in? Was that Modern Family? Modern Family. He's pretty good on that, too. He was good on that. Yep, yep. Yep. All right. Well, my next one is... I say the name, you already got to know the movie. Leroy Green.

UNKNOWN:

Do I know Leroy Green?

SPEAKER_02:

You don't know? Oh, okay. Well, Leroy Green. Leroy Green.

SPEAKER_00:

Once you say the

SPEAKER_02:

name, I'm going to know it. His real name is Ty Mack. 1985, a movie called The Last Dragon.

UNKNOWN:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Bruce

SPEAKER_00:

Leroy is Leroy Gray. Yes, okay. Now, if you would have said Bruce Leroy, I would have knew. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that was a good movie.

SPEAKER_02:

That was a close runner-up for a musical for me, because I think that might have been a musical, right? No, it wasn't a musical. It was just a, it had a strong soundtrack.

SPEAKER_00:

Who was his little arch-nemesis in that? The little guy with the ponytail. That's how I wear my hair, half up, half down.

SPEAKER_02:

Danny Arcadia?

UNKNOWN:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

No.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, show enough.

SPEAKER_00:

Show enough.

SPEAKER_02:

Show enough. So you're going to have to put a picture of you

SPEAKER_00:

with your hair

SPEAKER_02:

like that.

SPEAKER_00:

That's my signature style. Half up, half down. In fact, I think I got a show enough tattoo

SPEAKER_02:

on my leg. Really? Yeah, I just realized

SPEAKER_00:

that. We both like show enough.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep. Leroy Green, also known as Bruce Leroy Green. 1985, The Last Dragon.

SPEAKER_00:

Was Apollonia in that too? One of them was in it.

SPEAKER_02:

Who was that? That was Vanity. That was Vanity? Yeah. They look the same, y'all. I think they both end up having a drug habit too.

SPEAKER_00:

Aww.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Such pretty girls.

SPEAKER_02:

Press number seven. That's how you get to seven. Seven? Yeah, that was, I can't, my singing's trash.

SPEAKER_00:

Don't quit your day job, though. Yes. Where's the wisdom?

SPEAKER_01:

Oh,

SPEAKER_02:

okay. Okay, okay. What you got?

SPEAKER_00:

I'm going to go with Roger Thomas.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, of course.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

Come on, you can't do the dance,

SPEAKER_00:

can you?

UNKNOWN:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Come on. Okay, okay, okay. We doing the dance. Go

SPEAKER_00:

ahead. I love me some Roger Thomas. So,

SPEAKER_02:

where's he from? I

SPEAKER_00:

can't remember where they was set from.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay, then.

SPEAKER_00:

I can see the...

SPEAKER_02:

Well, let the people know the show.

SPEAKER_00:

What's happening?

SPEAKER_02:

Because they're like, Roger Thomas?

SPEAKER_00:

What's happening?

SPEAKER_02:

I'm surprised you didn't say Dwayne.

SPEAKER_00:

No, I like Roger. He had more... You know, Dwayne was kind of shy and would never really talk to people. Yeah. Roger was going to talk no matter what. MN rerun was definitely talking to everybody. He was going to get the... Roger got all the girls. Wow. Roger did get the

SPEAKER_02:

girls. I only remember like one girlfriend.

SPEAKER_00:

Roger was getting girls.

SPEAKER_02:

And that one girlfriend was the newer one, the... What's

SPEAKER_00:

happening now? I didn't really like that one too much with the wife. He got married.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, who was that wife?

SPEAKER_00:

Roger was getting girls. Go back and watch it. Yeah,

SPEAKER_02:

I'm gonna have to check it out then. Don't sleep on Roger Thomas. Roger Thomas. What about Dee? You didn't like Dee? Dee got on my nerves.

SPEAKER_00:

Back then, she was like the bratty little sister. All the smart talk and stuff.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

I liked her, but then...

SPEAKER_02:

That was a thing back in the day. Yeah. The smarty pants kid. You know, that's when... Who else was out then? What's his name? Gary Coleman? There's one on every show. Yeah, there was. There was. That's probably why we so slick in the mouth right now.

SPEAKER_00:

Maybe. Because I know

SPEAKER_02:

I am. All right. My next one is... I could say the name, and you know what? I'll say his real name, Sherman Hensley.

SPEAKER_00:

Amen, or the Jeffersons?

SPEAKER_02:

The Jeffersons,

SPEAKER_00:

George Jefferson. George Jefferson with the walk.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep, 1975 it started.

SPEAKER_00:

I still watch the Jeffersons now. You do? If I turn and see it, I'm going

SPEAKER_02:

to watch it. Which son do you like?

SPEAKER_00:

I like... Lionel.

SPEAKER_02:

This is Lionel, right?

SPEAKER_00:

I like the second son, I think.

SPEAKER_02:

Not the light-skinned

SPEAKER_00:

one. Not the light-skinned one. The brown one. Yeah. I like that

SPEAKER_02:

one. That's crazy. Which

SPEAKER_00:

one you like?

SPEAKER_02:

I think the brown one, too.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Because the first one.

SPEAKER_00:

He didn't really fit with them.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah. He did fit with Jenny, but he didn't fit with the show to me.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't think he fit with Jenny. He didn't fit with nobody.

SPEAKER_02:

And he was getting in trouble. I think he mouthed off to George one time about something.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't remember. Let's go with the second. The second line. I hate when they do that in shows. Don't switch the character up and act like we ain't gonna see. Only certain ones get away with it, though. I don't

SPEAKER_02:

like when they do that. The only one that really got away with it and nobody was mad was my wife and kids. Oh, with the daughter. They switched out the dark

SPEAKER_00:

skin one. Is that Claire? I like Claire. I like the second Claire.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, the light skin. Yeah. The goofy one. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00:

Because that first one was the smart talking person. Yeah, she

SPEAKER_02:

was. She was. They got away with that one. That's My next one, well, my last one was George Jefferson, 1975. George Jefferson. The Jeffersons. But I probably wasn't watching in 1975. You don't think so? No, I wasn't even born in 1975. Oh. I was watching it probably, let's say, 84, 85. I didn't

SPEAKER_00:

realize it was that old.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

75? Okay, George.

SPEAKER_02:

You know it's a spinoff too, right?

SPEAKER_00:

From the Archie Bunker.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they was the neighbors.

SPEAKER_00:

Mm-hmm. Yep, yep.

SPEAKER_02:

So that was my next one.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. My next one is the nanny, Fran Fine. What was it? Fran Fine. What's her real name? Fran Drescher.

SPEAKER_02:

Fran Drescher. Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

She was the flyest. I just wanted to watch to see what she was going to wear. You know what? I saw...

SPEAKER_02:

It was something I saw where they was showing... I think it might have been her and the one from Living Single. Kim? Kim Fields? Kim Fields. They were wearing the same outfits all the time. Yeah. I never really watched that show too much. Living Single or The Nanny? The Nanny. Yeah, I didn't watch that too

SPEAKER_00:

much. I liked The Nanny.

SPEAKER_02:

You still watching now? Because I think it still comes on, don't it?

SPEAKER_00:

I don't watch it, but my daughter likes it. She watches it a lot. Get out of here.

SPEAKER_02:

How old is your daughter?

SPEAKER_00:

My daughter's 26. She loves The Nanny. For real?

SPEAKER_02:

Well, I guess she's old enough to watch it.

SPEAKER_00:

She got an old soul.

SPEAKER_02:

I wonder where she

SPEAKER_00:

got it from. I wonder where.

SPEAKER_02:

All right. Well, my next one, this is a crazy one. The 80s, he was just so popular. And he was so popular, he dropped two different movies in the same year, one in August and the other one in July. I'm talking about Marty McFly, also known as Michael J. Fox.

SPEAKER_00:

Not Marty

SPEAKER_02:

McFly. Yeah, Marty McFly. He was cool. He was cool. He was. All the Back to the Futures. So, August 1985, Teen Wolf came out. You remember Teen

SPEAKER_00:

Wolf? Yes, I remember Teen Wolf.

SPEAKER_02:

And then July 1985, the first Back to the Future came out.

SPEAKER_00:

He was doing it big that year.

SPEAKER_02:

That was... People

SPEAKER_00:

don't usually do that.

SPEAKER_02:

Drop two movies in one year? Back in those days?

SPEAKER_00:

Back to back.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay. You were lucky enough to see your favorite actor on... You know, once a year drop, you know, come out in a movie.

SPEAKER_00:

I like Michael J. Fox. I watch him on The Good Wife. It's a law show.

SPEAKER_02:

Is that now?

SPEAKER_00:

No, it's an old show.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00:

Maybe like in the 2000s. I'll be watching the reruns.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, okay. Yeah, Michael J. Fox or also the character I like. Marty McFly.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, because he had a TV show, too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Family Ties.

SPEAKER_00:

Family Ties.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep, Family Ties.

SPEAKER_00:

So that probably was around the same time, too. Yep. So he was doing the show and doing it. I'm going to go with classic Claire Huxtable.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Claire was so fancy.

SPEAKER_02:

So did you like her better than Bill?

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, I did.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, better than Theo?

SPEAKER_00:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

Better than Rudy?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. I just liked her little attitude.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah,

SPEAKER_00:

she... And she was cute and so fancy. I was like, oh, look at the little fancy black mom.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I did like her, too. I like her.

SPEAKER_00:

They didn't have too many fancy black moms back then.

SPEAKER_02:

She didn't play that much stuff, like, during those times,

SPEAKER_00:

either. Yeah, it was just the Cosby show.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. You know, after the Cosby show was over, then, you know, you happened to see her in a movie like... I

SPEAKER_00:

like

SPEAKER_02:

Claire. The recent movie was what? Black Panther. She was the mother. Yeah. I know I got that one right.

SPEAKER_00:

I can't remember it.

SPEAKER_02:

Black Panther wasn't that good, so don't worry.

SPEAKER_00:

She was on something else, though, too. Something lately. She been getting more roles lately, I think.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah, yep. All right. I got one more, but the show started in 92. I mean, I'm sorry. The show started in 2002. And he might be your favorite also. If you saw this series, Michael K. Williams, also known as Omar.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yes. He's one of my favorites on that show.

SPEAKER_02:

Who else do you like? Bodhi?

SPEAKER_00:

I

SPEAKER_02:

like

SPEAKER_00:

Bodhi.

SPEAKER_02:

It was over once those two got killed.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, it wasn't the same. I don't think they should have killed both of them.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I don't think they should have

SPEAKER_00:

killed him. I like Snoop, too, even though Snoop was killing everybody. I like Snoop's character.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, Snoop was good. They

SPEAKER_00:

had a lot of good characters.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, because Bubbles.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I like Bubbles.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they had a whole bunch of characters on that one.

SPEAKER_00:

I like the little young guys.

SPEAKER_02:

Michael K. Williams? I mean, Michael B. Jordan.

SPEAKER_00:

He was all right, but I like the, not the one with the little curly ponytail. I didn't like him too much.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh.

SPEAKER_00:

I like the one who was killing with Snoop and what was the other guy's name?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, his name is Michael. Yeah. Michael. Yeah. It's about time for me to start watching The Wire again, get back into it. Because I used to watch

SPEAKER_00:

it. Do you watch it every year?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, once a

SPEAKER_00:

year. I don't watch it every year, but I like to keep up with it. And it's like it's fresh every time I watch it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

That and The Sopranos, I watch once a year.

UNKNOWN:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And I do have one more. I'm sorry, I forgot mine. All right. You might not know this one.

SPEAKER_00:

I might.

SPEAKER_02:

Pauly Walnuts.

SPEAKER_00:

Ain't that from The Sopranos? Yeah. That's your extra?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah, that was

SPEAKER_00:

mine. I like Pauly. Pauly was one of the good ones.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, 1999 to 2007. a small show called The Sopranos on HBO.

SPEAKER_00:

What do you think happened at the end? Do you like the ending?

SPEAKER_02:

At the time, no.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't like it either.

SPEAKER_02:

But if you sit and watch it now, towards the end of the season, stuff just started falling apart. I don't know if it was the writing, but just so much went on. they was able to just like turn the lights off and walk out.

SPEAKER_00:

I didn't like that. I didn't like how they left like a cliffhanger. Like you decide what happened. I want to know what happened.

SPEAKER_02:

It could have, it should have got a little bit.

SPEAKER_00:

I invested all my time in all those seasons and you just going to end it like that.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. I think they should have did a little song. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

That's a good series though.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. I watched that once a year. Um, I guess that's it.

SPEAKER_00:

I got an extra one. You got another one? Yeah. All right, what's that? I'm going to go with Maxine Shaw. Okay. Living Single. Sing the song. We are living single in a 90s kind of world. Yeah, that was my show. I still watch that to this day. I watch it a lot.

SPEAKER_02:

I think I watched it because there was nothing else on at the time.

SPEAKER_00:

I like it. I like Queen Latifah too. I like Maxine. I like Queen Latifah.

SPEAKER_02:

I like Queen Latifah.

SPEAKER_00:

Khadija. Khadija James.

SPEAKER_02:

I don't think they showed enough of her.

SPEAKER_00:

Why? She was like in every episode.

SPEAKER_02:

It was something about it.

SPEAKER_00:

I liked it. That was a good show. Maybe you need to go back and revisit.

SPEAKER_02:

Nah, I couldn't do

SPEAKER_00:

it.

SPEAKER_02:

I couldn't do it. I don't think I'll be able to watch, like, more than

SPEAKER_00:

one episode. I like it. That's one of my favorite shows.

SPEAKER_02:

Kim Fields is my favorite in it.

SPEAKER_00:

Really? Kim Fields is my favorite in, daggone,

SPEAKER_02:

Facts of Life. Facts of Life?

SPEAKER_00:

I like Joe in the Facts of Life.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, the tomboy? Yeah, the tomboy. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. I like Joe. Joe was cool. Yeah. Is she still alive? I don't know. I think so. I think so.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't think none of them have passed away. Okay. Well,

SPEAKER_02:

I think I'm done with mine. I'm done with mine, too. Let's jump into snack time.

SPEAKER_00:

All right.

SPEAKER_02:

Snack time is, I guess, a segment of the show where we talk about food, snacks, or, you know, it could be from the past or it could be from

SPEAKER_00:

now. Something that we wish we had.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep, exactly. Something that we wish they still made or something like that.

UNKNOWN:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

You can start it off. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. I'm going to go with Chocodiles. What's that? That's a little snack cake from Hostess. They don't make them no more.

SPEAKER_02:

That's crazy. I got to find a picture of it.

SPEAKER_00:

It's like a sponge. They say it's a Twinkie with chocolate on it, but they don't taste like a Twinkie. I don't like Twinkies, but I like those.

SPEAKER_02:

So it's chocolate over the Twinkie?

SPEAKER_00:

Yes. That's what they say it is.

SPEAKER_02:

They made those too,

SPEAKER_00:

though. They make Twinkies, but... A Twinkie and a Chocodile eat the same thing. The cake inside don't taste the same. Chocodile? A Chocodile.

SPEAKER_02:

That sounds crazy.

SPEAKER_00:

It's good.

SPEAKER_02:

I got to see a picture of it. It's good. Mine is 1959 they made this drink.

UNKNOWN:

Yoo-hoo.

SPEAKER_02:

Nope. It came in a glass jar and you mixed it. They say it's a drink for astronauts back in the day.

SPEAKER_00:

If you say tang...

SPEAKER_02:

It is tang.

SPEAKER_00:

You like tang? Yeah, back in the day, tang was it. Tang ain't nothing but sunny delight.

SPEAKER_02:

No, it ain't sunny delight. It's more like an orange-flavored Kool-Aid. But either way, it's a powdered substance that you put inside water, mix it, and then you got tang.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't think I ever had tang before in my life. For

SPEAKER_02:

real? For real. Man, back in

SPEAKER_00:

the 80s? It remind me

SPEAKER_02:

of...

SPEAKER_00:

Sunny Delight. And I don't like Sunny Delight. No, it

SPEAKER_02:

look like Sunny Delight, but it don't taste like it.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't know what Tang is. I just, I don't think I ever had that. Yeah, that's

SPEAKER_02:

crazy. I'm gonna get you some

SPEAKER_00:

Tang.

SPEAKER_02:

I don't want no Tang.

SPEAKER_00:

Why not? Where you gonna find Tang from? They

SPEAKER_02:

still make it.

SPEAKER_00:

Just give me some Kool-Aid.

SPEAKER_02:

Nah, I'm gonna surprise you with some Tang next week.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't want no Tang. What it taste like?

SPEAKER_02:

I'll let you taste it.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't want to taste it. You want to know.

SPEAKER_02:

You want

SPEAKER_00:

to know. I just want you to tell me.

SPEAKER_02:

It tastes like yellow. It tastes like the orange-flavored Kool-Aid. Oh, okay. No?

SPEAKER_00:

I don't know. Just give me some

SPEAKER_02:

Tropical Punch Kool-Aid. All right. Well, I got a couple Spotlight albums from the past.

SPEAKER_00:

All right, let's hear it.

SPEAKER_02:

Before we get out of here. 34 years ago, August 1991... a group called Cyphers Hill. They came out and they dropped a song called Kill a Man. And songs like this, songs like Hand on a Pump, they were all classics from this album. Self-titled Cyphers Hill, 1991. 1991.

SPEAKER_00:

Give me something you can't understand. Look at this girl, man.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep. What really made it popular is when it was on the Juice movie. Mm-hmm. The scene in the elevator. Everybody knows that scene. And I also have an R&B CD from 1996. 1996 was how many years? 29 years ago. And... This artist was new at the time. Well, this is probably the artist's second album. Her name is Aaliyah. One in a Million.

SPEAKER_00:

That was a good album.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, it was. It was. They had songs like this, Hot Like Fire. Four Page Letter. Four Page Letter. It was a good album. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00:

I think that was when she switched over to Timbaland producing.

SPEAKER_02:

The best thing she could do ever.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. They

SPEAKER_02:

had good chemistry together. The best thing anybody could do ever. Because like, Genuine, Justin Timberlake, go back to Timbaland. He gonna get you right. Go back to Timbaland. Always. And I think that was it. I think that was all I had for the week. Hope I could

SPEAKER_00:

just kill a man. If your girl only knew, that's my favorite. Yeah. Choosy lover. Well. Yeah, Aaliyah had some good ones.

SPEAKER_02:

Let's send it on out here with this Aaliyah then. That's this week's episode of Once Upon a Time in Music. I'm Elle. I'm Cheryl Poison. And we

SPEAKER_00:

out. See ya!
