SPEAKER_01

Welcome to this is the season podcast and show. I'm a money the male fan. I'm moving from the city fan. Oh night. We're gonna play kiss the theme. Right, right. What's the what's the what's the TV show? Sons and Daughters. That's right, home and away. Home and away. Beat in Liverpool, home and away. Home and away. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, home and away.

SPEAKER_01

So normally I'd be straight in here talking about Man United, because we've qualified for the Champions League now. Everything's sorted. We'll be on the beach. There's no problem. Carrick may get the job and a massive budget for players, right? I would talk about all of that, but last week's episode was it's squeaky bum time. This week it's even squeakier. This week it's so you're telling me there's still a chance. Well, you text me at uh 2-1 down last night, um, and you went, oh, that was fun white last did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's all over.

SPEAKER_00

I know. And then 3-1 came, and I just replied with wow. I know, and I hated it. And then you just thought, do you know what as well? Silly mistakes.

SPEAKER_01

Well, let's let's let's go through first of all. Right. So you you get your goal, so you one-nil up, right?

SPEAKER_00

And a great goal, by the way, because it just looked like we weren't gonna get that chance, and it was gonna take a screamer, and in the end, there were two screamers.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So you got your one-nil up. Yeah. Talk to me about one of your best spies of the season. Which one? Um, gay, Mark Gay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_01

So what what what was he doing? And did you shout at the TV, what the are you doing?

SPEAKER_00

I couldn't believe it. And then I saw the offside flank and I was like, wow. And it was just like, oh my god, that is a let off and a half. And then all these rules that you find if you go to like 0.760 in the in the rule book, it's like, right, it's another phase of play, and all this kind of stuff. And I was gutted, I was devastated, and it was just really sloppy. And for uh, you know, an incredible defender to make such a mistake, it was just heartbreaking for him, and then he he was determined to try and get the box. He was getting the box there to try and make up for it, and uh oh, I just I really feel for him. Um, but you know, that goal at the end was just it was incredible. It was like, I mean, you know, a lot of Arsenal fans are taking the mix saying you're celebrating a draw, but for goodness sake, that goal could it gives us a chance, although it's only a very small chance, it gives us a chance because it makes it 3-3, it gives us a point. Uh, we've still obviously got a game in hand, um, and then obviously the difference will be two points. I am putting everything I'm gonna get myself a West Hampshire, I think, for this weekend. Like, the only thing that I would say, and this is where I'm I'm I'm I'm grabbing a small bit of hope from, is that it's one of West Ham's last home games of the season. Obviously, there's three games left. Uh Tottenham somehow have found back-to-back wins, which has now made West Ham the favourites to be relegated. They've got a game of their lives this weekend, and again, I don't know if a draw is going to be good enough because Arsenal have got to play um they've got to play Burnley at home, and I reckon they'll score five or six in that game. I really do.

SPEAKER_01

But you play Burnley.

SPEAKER_00

I know, but we played Burnley away at Turf Moor, and we mentioned that. Tough place, tough place to go, Nigel. It was the only game where they could up it a little bit because if they if they lost, they were relegated. So they played, they played better than I've seen them play all season. Do you know what? Come on, West Ham. It's such a huge game now that um for West Ham and for Man City, it really is. We're recording this on Tuesday. Tonight, um, Arsenal are playing in the Champions League. If they lose tonight, it could also give them uh just a real a real kick.

SPEAKER_01

Um, a good kick or a bad kick? A bad kick. Like if I kicked you now, there's two sorts of kicks. I could give you a playfully kick up the arse or I could give you a good kicking.

SPEAKER_00

I reckon it'd be a kick in the bollocks for them. Absolutely, because they'd be, you know, you you you you then literally everything is on this the the title then. They've gone from winning all four to potentially winning none. I mean, they're at home against Athletico Madrid. There's uh, you know, they've got to be favourites for that game. But like I say, it's all about just winning and winning and winning and winning and keeping your mentality winning mentality. That's it. And uh any kind of knock to them, it would just be it's what we need now as city fans. We're totally looking over our shoulders now. Well, we're not, we're looking, we're looking ahead, aren't we? Because they're above us, but we just need to bloody oh come on, come on, West Ham.

SPEAKER_01

We just need to bloody, oh come on, come on, West Ham. Spurs look really different at the weekend, they look quite decent. How many how many games has Despersy been in charge?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, a couple of games is uh I mean back-to-back wins for them is huge, and they just look like a team who couldn't find a win, and they've found two, and this is where I don't know. I always I always had the game that I thought Arsenal might slip up in as being the away trip to West Ham, and it's it's this weekend, and uh you know what, you've just got to keep everything crossed.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, Johnny Stones is uh is leaving, we we predicted that, yeah. I think everyone predicted that. He's he's off. Would you as City, but hands off, because I'm looking at him, Mickey van der Ven. Um, would you would you would you look at him? I don't think City need any centre halves.

SPEAKER_00

Get him! Get him! We don't do it. I think the centre halves we've got are uh are better than him. Right. Okay. Uh although yesterday, I don't know what was wrong with the boots that our players were wearing. They were falling over left right centre. What was going on?

SPEAKER_01

Can I say it like it was light that overwatered the pitch? Like in an old school sort of right, what we'll do, practice on this really wet pitch. Oh, wait. But even when Pickford was taking um goal kicks, he was slipping a little bit as well.

SPEAKER_00

Oh mate, honestly, it was like it was just crazy. The whole thing was was I just I don't know what was going on. It was really, really frustrating because you know, just simple things where they're controlling the ball and they're on their arse, it's like, for God's sake. Well, the positive was um was Jeremy Docku again. Jeremy Docu has been he's been outstanding this season.

SPEAKER_01

Is he your player of the season, do you think? I know you've talked about Turkey and you've talked about O'Reilly and whatever. But when you need somebody to just keep running and keep going, he he looked fresh in the 93rd minute as fresh as he did in the second minute.

SPEAKER_00

He's had he's had an amazing season.

SPEAKER_01

I mean he was out of the team for a little bit, wasn't he?

SPEAKER_00

I'll tell you what was ridiculous as well. That tackle, right? I know I'm not saying it was definitely a red card. I think they said on the commentary it was an orange card. Orange card. Right, because um, if he was if his foot was a little bit higher, it's a guaranteed red. However, how ridiculous is the rule that then after he's been injured, he then has to go off the pitch and we have to then play with 10 men for what was well over 30 seconds. And I know nothing happened in that moment, but can you imagine that? Like, what a ridiculous rule. Time wasting wise, I get it, get off the pitch. If you've just been clattered and there's a question mark as to whether it's a red card or not, you don't surely you shouldn't be off the pitch for that long. Stupid nonsense rule.

SPEAKER_01

I was explaining this rule to my missus yesterday and couldn't explain it. So I said, right, so it's like I've tackled you, yeah, so I fouled you, but you then get you you then you're off the pitch, so you can't play. So I've got 11 players, you've got 10. The rule is all about Explain the rule to me.

SPEAKER_00

Well, the rule is is clearly to stop time wasting, and that's the main thing. When players go down and they get treatment, they say now, if you you know, if you do go down, you're gonna end up going off the pitch. However, when someone is clattered into like that, and like we've already said, it it could have been a red. I'm I I I don't think it was, if I'm absolutely honest, although it was a it was it was a bad tackle, and he wasn't getting the ball, and all these things, it just it was a horrible tackle, but then he's got to go off the pitch. It's just a nonsense, stupid rule.

SPEAKER_01

It's not allowed us to go for a tangent, but I did want to mention it. Did you see the um Chelsea Forest game yesterday?

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Did you not see it?

SPEAKER_00

I saw a bit of it. I saw the one of the highlights. I mean, what's going on at Chelsea? It's just weird, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

But there was a couple of really bad injuries in that. They uh they started the young kid, Jesse what's his name? Um for Chelsea. So that's with so that's with D. Jesse Derry. Not sure. He started yesterday for the first time, he's only a kid, and he was out, I mean, out cold for about 10 or 15 minutes. Yeah, and then a bit later there was another head-to-head. Um and it was uh Morgan gigs Morgan Gibbs White. You know, have you seen his gash? It's a massive gash on his head, and they've got the big um big Europa game this week, haven't they? I mean, proper, proper big gash on his head.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was Jesse Derry. Well done. The great knowledge.

SPEAKER_01

We're saying because my kid's called Jesse Denman. Right. Look, there's a young kid starting called Jesse. Yeah, but um what what a way to start your uh start your first Premier League game. But Chelsea were awful yesterday. I mean, this is this is the thing, you see.

SPEAKER_00

Forest leads, they've stepped up, Tottenham are having a bit of a run. It looked like West Ham were going to be okay at one point, but they're they're they're they've got to be favourites now to go down. I mean, it's a huge game against Arsenal, and on paper, Arsenal should easily win that game. But you you'd hope it is their cup final this weekend and they need to win.

SPEAKER_01

How's my £100 on Arsenal doing at 4-1 to win the league? Are we am I getting closer to going and cashing that?

SPEAKER_00

How do you feel?

SPEAKER_01

It's Arsenal, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

So, not being funny, Nigel. I just feel like I've put a load of Arsenal uh players in my fantasy league team because when I put players in my team, they end up being useless. So my tactics were to put all their best players in, and I've started doing really well in Fantasy League now, and I'm gutted. Um I think that the fact that you've bet on it means that it might not happen. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm helping you out here. You are right. If we go to the red side of Manchester, this is all done now, isn't it? There was a really weird thing in one of the um papers, it might have been Manchester Even News, a couple of days ago about the Brazilian FA have agreed with Manchester United that Mateus Cunha uh will not play any more games for Man United till the end, you know, till the end of the season, uh, because he's got a hip injury and he'll be fit for the World Cup. Man United have come out and gone, nah, no, that this hasn't happened. But is this is this a time now for you know, if you're Carrick and you A want the job, I do believe he's either been told he's got the job now or he hasn't got the job. I think he's been told either way. Yeah. I genuinely think that, and it's you know it's not come out yet. Would you, if you were still in charge now, your your carrick, to the end of the season, there's now much you can do, would you start bringing in a couple of the academy lads, you know, playing around a bit? Um or would you go and try and get as many points as you can?

SPEAKER_00

The weird the weird one for me is um I mean who has been unbelievable under him, and he he was probably the best player on the pitch the other day uh against Liverpool, scored a good goal at the end. He's got to keep performing till the end of the season to have a chance of getting in the England squad. So I just I still think if you're a player, you and I mean you want to play. You you you need to play to make sure you're in the team. But someone like Cunya, I mean, a lot of these players now are going to be panicking because it's heartbreaking if you get an injury between now when there's three games left with it being a World Cup.

SPEAKER_01

Well, speaking of speaking of Mainu, right, and I don't make any notes for this show, as you can probably tell. I'm sitting here playing with me Sharp here, my hands, right? Here's one for you. How many minutes did Cobby Mainu play under Ruben Amarim? And just to prove that he was absolute full of it.

SPEAKER_00

Was it none? Was it hardly any?

SPEAKER_01

137. Right, okay. 137 minutes he played under under Amarim. Uh and before that, he was in the England squad and whatever. So I d I don't know what it I don't know what it was, whether it was the system, whether we didn't like him. And we're gonna lose him as well. He was gonna go somewhere else, wasn't he? And it was it was just come on, lad. Um, so I used to get really nervous before a big game. Right. Right?

SPEAKER_00

And uh, this is not being customer. I was nervous last night. Yeah, I was. I was, I genuinely was. Against Everton, tough place to go. No, but all these games, every every single game between now and the end of the season has been a nerve-wracking. Hey, you're unbeaten at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

SPEAKER_01

You still haven't won one yet, but you're unbeaten. Nice one. So normally I used to get that, you know, an hour beforehand, you'd put the TV on and watch the build-up, and you'd get nervous and your mates would be on your WhatsApp or whatever. At the weekend, I I didn't feel a lot. I didn't you know, as far as as far as Liverpool ain't very good. They're not very good. I mean, I'm not saying Monday night are brilliant, but I I I thought we'd win that. And then at 2-0 up, cruising, I thought, well, this is this is this is great, it's gonna be four, five, six, whatever. Goes to two two. Uh, I don't know what the lemon was doing in goal, he's been pretty brilliant this season. He he conceded, and then you know, I didn't know which way it was gonna go, and then of course Maynard comes along and just the right position, just brilliant, waited for his time, and then just long range short. All right, it was against Freddie Woodman. So um I got a score, two past him, and he goes and scores, and and it was 3-2. But if you we if you break break down these these wins, and we have done uh over time, they're not convincing a lot of these wins, or we've thrown it away.

SPEAKER_00

So, does that mean that he gets the job or not, though? That's the thing.

SPEAKER_01

There was all these stats, weren't there, about if the league had started when Michael Carrick was all that stuff, but but it's it's it's all fantasy, really, isn't it? Because that you know it didn't start. It didn't start then. Look, if his job was to get them to the highest possible finishing position and get them Champions League, and get the squad working together and using the players that Amorin didn't want to use and get this all this, then he's he's done his job. You've been here before though with Solskjaer. But we say it every weeknice. I I I I know how this story ends, and I think if we hadn't been through it with Solskjaer or anybody else, we know how it ends. So I don't want to see Carrick, and Carrick comes in and gets a couple of new midfielders, uh, a new striker, and a new central defender, for example, and they're his players, and then it all goes tits in the Champions League, and we're mid-table, knocked out of every cup, and then he gets binned, and we get Vanisaroy to the end of the season.

SPEAKER_00

The problem is, right, and I'm not being patronizing here. Right, okay. That means I'm gonna be patronised. No, I'm really not, but there is a huge difference than playing once every 10 days, or whatever it was sometimes you were doing. Volta one play 17 at one point, you know, potentially three games a week. Yeah, and that squad that you've got isn't gonna be able to handle that. I know you're now gonna get money, I know players are gonna be available. You know, you need a lot of sign-ins. A lot of sign-ins. We need a we need a and it also sounds like a lot of a few were gonna leave as well.

SPEAKER_01

So I mean, there's like Agate and Xerxy and Sancho's on loan and uh Rashford and uh Hoyland. There's some weird rule about if if if um Napoli get into the Champions League, they've got to buy him. Um but look, the the main the main thing is we need a striker. Like we the old days of Fergie, we'd always have four premium strikers. Yeah, four premium strikers at any one point. I know the times have changed and whatever, but we we not not a backup De Shesko. We need a we know a a Victor Oscherman or someone like that. You need a Harry Kane, you need that one person, and then you've got you know you've got your backup.

SPEAKER_00

Before you had Champions League, though, you couldn't get that striker, but now you have, yeah, you've got a better chance.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so we got that. So I mean we're winning the league next year anyway, and probably the Champions League as well, maybe season too early. But a replacement for Casemiro, uh, and then probably a backup there as well, uh, and a central defender. I'm I'm pretty cool with a keeper. Um would you have cover for Luke Shaw and Diego Dallow, or would you put somebody in front of them now? Uh Luke Shaw's not been injured much this year, but he's slowing down. When he's good, he's good. And when he's and when he's sloppy, he's dead sloppy.

SPEAKER_00

Look at what's happened to Newcastle this year, and that could be what happens to you with the Champions League, the games and everything, it just it's not worked out. Aston Villa as well. Aston Villa as well. Literally, those extra games and not having a big enough squad to do it, and an experienced manager in the Champions League. Right, these are all the big question marks that you've got.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, but but but we'll we'll we'll put it we'll put it out there. Who is around? Who is available? Who is available to Nick? There isn't anybody, isn't it? Angelotti signed another two years for Brazil or is it is it Brazil he's is his manager of? Um is Poch the America is the United States manager or or what I reckon he'll be available after the World Cup though.

SPEAKER_00

But I mean, is Poch an upgrade? I don't know. This is the only thing that I find funny, all this is that is that even at a time now when you when it's exciting and you know you're getting that success, there's still a massive question mark, and this was the problem. If they give it Carrick, then amazing, everyone's happy, and everyone says he deserves it, and then the first few games of next year it doesn't go to plan, you're starting from scratch again. But you've got this, you've got a world-class manager now like an Angelotti, and it doesn't work because you've had some pretty big names like Mourinho and people come in and try and replace Fergie, and it doesn't go to plan. Everyone will say you should have kept Carrick.

SPEAKER_01

Sending my best wishes to Fergie by the uh by the way. He wasn't in the pub last night because he was uh hospital and went home to recoup. He got ill before the uh the match, didn't he? Um yeah. Well, to me, you don't know. Did y'all see it? No, I didn't know. We didn't know. I hope he's alright. Yeah, no. I mean, do you mean that? Yeah. Yeah. He's he's he's he probably had some of that food with the one star rating. Or whatever it was. Uh so uh rest up, Fergie, and we'll see you back in the pub on Wednesday night.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, mate. I'm I'm I am I'm I'm stressed. I am Why are you getting stressed, guys? Because it's out of our hands now completely, and we'd got back in. I just, you know, they've got four games including tonight, as we mentioned, recording this on Tuesday, so they've got the Champions League. We've got five games, including the uh oh, we've obviously we've got a trip to Wembley to come as well. There's there's a lot to be excited about. At the beginning of this season, I'm not I don't want to sound like a loser now, but at the beginning of this season, if we could have had the two cups with the rebuild that we've had, that would be a successful season. But now that we got so close, oh it's it will be massively frustrating if we don't win the league.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, so we talked about where you're gonna slip up, and I both think we thought you were gonna beat Everton. Right. So what where is there another slip-up coming? Well, Bournemouth away is gonna be a tough one. Okay. Yeah. That's that's the that's the tough one now.

SPEAKER_00

That's a tough one. I think the home games you'd expect us to hopefully get the win. The thing is though, you look as a city fan now, you go back, you look at that blueing goal against Arsenal where they scored right at the end to salvage a point, and that was right at the end. Uh, you look at matches against uh West Ham, you look at uh the Forest game, all these games where we could have and should have picked up maximum points, and that's the reason why we've not won the league. And then silly, silly mistakes. We you know it could be pretty much our league by now. It should be.

SPEAKER_01

It's our league, we just deserve it right.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, those those silly, silly mistakes could cost us, but it's not over, mate. You've got to keep the faith. Yeah, come on West Ham and let's do this.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not coming on West Ham.

SPEAKER_00

No, listen, when you score right at the end like that, and get that point, that could be a huge, huge point for City. A huge point for City.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Um, we talked about Phil Foden last week. Um this this morning, uh he's been offered a four-year deal. Yeah. Rightfully so. Really? Yeah, completely, completely. But he's through your academy. Would you not be better off with your financial fair play flogging him?

SPEAKER_00

Phil Foden is one of our own, he's an amazing midfielder, and it caused the floor. He didn't do that when he came on. He didn't, he didn't do anything wrong. He tried to create something, he he he did okay, he was lively, you know, but he didn't score, if that's what you mean. But that doesn't matter. He was the substitutions worked. We got back in the game, we were losing 3-1, so it worked. He was 3-3 in the end.

SPEAKER_01

Uh Semenya yesterday, he's he's been uh you know a shining light. Do you think he just he's just tired? Played too many games?

SPEAKER_00

I just don't listen. Semenya's been a great, a great player, a great sign-in, and he's gonna be amazing for us next year as well as this year. He's been top.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay, that's it. I'm just asking. Right, so um, next for Man United is Sunderland. Um Sunderland Awe. I don't know why Home and Away, man! Home and Awe! I don't know why I've got Jamaica again. Home and away, come on, this underland.

SPEAKER_00

You know we belong again. Oh, mate. Oh, dear, mate. We've got Brentford. I didn't have and we're telling you, we've got Brentford on Saturday at home. Uh we need to get the win. It's a 5 30 kickoff. Uh, and we play before Arsenal. It might just put a little bit of pressure on if we can get a good result against Brentford. Uh, then we have got on Wednesday night, we've got Palace at home. As well. So two back to back home games. Palace were awful the weekend. Yeah. Like really bad. Well, we've got Palace at home, so that's two. Hopefully, you'd you'd like to think that that's if we if we deserve to be anywhere near winning the league, you've got to win at home against Brentford and Palace. Then we've got the cup final uh against Chelsea on Saturday, the 16th. Following Tuesday, that's the big one away at Bournemouth. And then that last game of the season, with the new stadium all being up and the new stand for that last game of the season, it'll be an emotional goodbye to Bernardo Silva and John Stones and one or two other players. But yeah, um let's just hope we're still in with a chance because they've still got two away games as well, Arsenal. Now, you know, you might think they seem easy, but uh one of them is obviously this weekend away at West Ham, and their last game of the season is away at Crystal Palace. So still a chance.

SPEAKER_01

I'll just be honest with you, Nights. I I was listening to everything you were saying, but I'm watching the opening titles of Home and Away. Okay. Island Fisher was really hot. Really hot back in the day. Yeah, which Pippa was your favourite? Oh, Pippa, Vanessa Downing, the first one. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Alright. Zip, zip, zip. Right, your score prediction then. What'd you say?

SPEAKER_00

Your next game. Okay, City against Brentford. I think we go out and I think we're absolutely battered. I think 4-1 City. 4-1 City.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I'm gonna go 2-1 City. Okay. I'll go 2-1 City. I reckon you go.

SPEAKER_00

Score prediction for West Ham versus Arsenal.

SPEAKER_01

Can I be honest?

SPEAKER_00

Go on.

SPEAKER_01

1-0 West Ham.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not being nice to you. Yeah. I just I I think I think they'll score and they'll shut up shop.

SPEAKER_00

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

And Arsenal will try everything. The set pieces, 47 strikers on the pitch, the whole of this. Um Arteta tells him play play like animals. Yeah. Whatever he says. Yeah, I think West Am I think West Ham, I think West Ham will do Arsenal.

SPEAKER_00

Oh mate, you see you make it.

SPEAKER_01

Tesla and Rice will be crying. He'll be crying. Arteta will be going nuts. Yeah. And then I woke up from my dream, 4-0 Arsenal.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, Sunderland. Sunderland Arsenal.

SPEAKER_00

I I think, first of all, I think that it will be 2-1 to West Ham.

SPEAKER_01

2-1 to West Ham.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so yeah, going for it, yeah.

unknown

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Sunderland United. Uh uh 2-0. He's done now, isn't it? Yeah, it's on the beach, isn't it? On the beach.

SPEAKER_01

What do you think, Chris? Ria. Um one. But I'm I'm I'm not arsenizing. This was our season. Right. When we started, and I put Man United second in the table, right? That was my prediction from 15th. And you absolutely ripped me, and you went, mate, no, it's a poor prediction. All them places and all this, right? That is what? One, six, two, two, three, four, five, six. That's 12 places higher than than last year. Well done. Well listened. And Champions League, right.

SPEAKER_00

Also, um, you know, one game a week.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Um, also, thanks, Nigel. Um, oh, two things. That the first one was I was waiting in the pub for you for two hours last week. Oh, right. After your meeting. Okay. I looked in the car park and your car had gone. Right. So you didn't come, you didn't come to the pub. I didn't realize I just looked in here and you'd gone. No, no, I was in the pub waiting for you. I came out to have a fag and I went, oh, but where's his car from? Oh, he's he's put off. And also, Nigel was doing a gig five minutes from my house the other night, and three people sent this to me going, oh, Nigel's round. I was a guest at the Cheshire supporters group. I was. It was top, mate. I loved it. So your name is Nigel Klukas. Yeah. Right? And and what did what did the poster say? Uh Nigel Claws. Claws us. Hey, uh, cheers for listening. Have a brilliant week. Um, City. Come on, City. And also, if you want some proper football, is it Thursday night? No, Tuesday night. Wednesday night. No, Wednesday night. It's the um second leg of um Bayern and PSG. Yeah, do you see the first leg? Unbelievable. Unbelievable. It made the Premier League look really gash.

It was really good. It was really good. Two great defences going head to head.
