SPEAKER_02

This is the best bit of the World Cup. Definitely.

SPEAKER_00

I loved it afterwards in the fanzone when everyone was going less, listen, hey, we've copyrighted that.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway, we'll stop it there. It was it was a shite match though, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was, but they got the job done, mate, and happy days to that, honestly. And and they're still pissed.

SPEAKER_02

So I said, don't write off Morocco. They've done it before. They're not mugs, they won't roll over for 5, 6, 7, 0. And it was 1-1. Were you impressed with Brazil, first of all?

SPEAKER_00

Not at all. It's weird. Like everybody gets dead excited about Brazil, but I'll be honest with you, mate, like disappointed. When you look at the Brazils of the past and the strikers that they've got and the creative players that they've got, I mean, I know they've taken Name out, but I mean he might not even be fit enough to play any football while he's there. They might not even qualify from the group stages if the Scottish have the way. You just get carried away because it is Brazil and that yellow jersey, and it's like just you know the history of it all. They're not the Brazil of old, are they at all?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. Um we're talking about Rashadlison and made the squad. Uh, because you said he had a good World Cup and we looked for him, and he made the squad. I'll tell you who didn't make the squad as well, Gabriel Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

These strikers haven't been scoring many goals, so you can understand them not being picked by Angelotti, but at the same time, in a tournament like the World Cup, you know, those two you could bring on, like, you know, if it's not quite working out for you, even just as a substitute and give more than what they had on offer the other day, it was pretty poor, mate. We've just seen Spain do the same, though. Sometimes you can't read too much into the first game because sometimes the team that doesn't win the first game will just go on and win the whole thing.

SPEAKER_02

Was it Sweden who scored a million goals and then uh and Germany? Yeah, went and scored a million goals. Now, I reckon people were there going, oh, this is gonna be what even higher, isn't it? Nine, ten, eleven nil without even you getting off the bench. So Cape Verde's now everyone's second favourite team. As I said from the start, France will win the World Cup because I've gone off Spain now. Um that that that keeper in goal, was he 40 years old? Uh he plays in League Two in Portugal at uh Chavez, is it? What have we got?

SPEAKER_00

Chavez, he was absolutely insane. He honestly had the a worldly of a game, and obviously he's just overnight now he is a national hero. Crazy that uh Cape Verde are actually at the World Cup, it's amazing. And then to win the current Europe to sorry, to draw with the current European champions. That's why I said win it feels like a win for them. It's crazy. On another day, uh Forrent Torres could have had he could have had a few. He's a great player, but their keeper just had a worldly of a game, and the one where he hit the bar, he should have buried that as well. But you know, they did have chances to win at Spain, they were battering him, they didn't do anything Cape Verde, but they just couldn't find the back of the net.

SPEAKER_02

You know, it's like a football fan, you know, a bit of a geek. I was going through all the teams that he'd played for in his um massive career, or his long career, should I say, and I'm going through them teams going, not a clue, not a clue, not a clue, not a clue, apart from um League Two in Portugal now and the players surrounding him, third smallest nation in the World Cup. Now, what did you what do you think of Spain? What did you make of him?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, if I was Chelsea, I wouldn't get rid of that Kucarella. I thought I was brilliant. I thought, honestly, he's so creative, he's brilliant. I think Chelsea have got a real player there. Um, Real Madrid now have now finally got a Spanish player in the World Cup squad because the for the first time ever, there was no Real Madrid player until they signed him.

SPEAKER_02

You look at um Real Madrid and you think to yourself, uh Well, well, look, I'll I won't even pull you up on Cuccarella. But he uh Cucarella, right? So Cuccarella, Cucareya. I can't wait for him to go bowl, by the way. He's gonna look like a proper pinhead, didn't he? It's gonna be great. Um, what the pay for him? 65 mil or something like that. Have they got Canate as well, by the way? And Bernardo Silver. Yeah. Jose is so setting this up for a squad that is ready now and he'll leave in two years. He's not doing that thing of bringing the Wonder Kids or going to the academy or whatever. This is I want shit done now. We need to win stuff now. And then by the time Jose leaves in two, three years' time, they might have a league of title, they might have a Champions League semi, might with a Champions League, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

He's a top manager as well.

SPEAKER_02

And now, no, no, but he's got to leave everyone in the shit again, isn't he? Because as soon as he finishes, the average age of the players he's brought in is gonna be 55. He's not bothered. All he wants is, like you said, is another Champions League. I think this will start opening the door now for all these um Chelsea players to go because it's not really worked, has it? I know it's uh, you know, and they've got another new manager in there, and I thought he'd have a little bit of a pull. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. But all their top players, um, they've got to be looking around now, going, you know, like a Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, and stuff like that. They signed the other lad, didn't they? Um Casado. He signed, he signed another long-term deal.

SPEAKER_00

I would agree with you had they have not got uh Xavi Alonso in as manager, and I actually think that what they're doing now is they're giving him some control. He's obviously said that he don't want Mark, so he can go to Real Madrid. See what I did with Mark. See what I did. Honestly, he's gonna get control. I don't think he wanted him there. I think he's got his vision of what he's gonna do. I think they'll make a few signings. I actually think that Chelsea will be there and thereabouts this season. I think he's a quality manager. He was unlucky to get sacked from Real Madrid. Weird one, that as well, with him being a club legend. He's obviously smashed it in Germany. I think he's a great manager. I think Liverpool fans are gutted that they didn't make the decision with slots sooner. I think Chelsea will be a force next year. But anyway, keeping it World Cup.

SPEAKER_02

I've got through the predictions. We talked about Japan and the Netherlands, and I said, look, Japan are the you know, that's a surprise package. Do you know what? They like I said to you, they keep going and going and going. It was a 2-2 there. I still don't think Netherlands are as good as people think they are.

SPEAKER_00

Um they've got some good players, aren't they? They've got some good players. Germany looked very, very tasty, although, I mean, who are they playing against?

SPEAKER_02

Come on, have a go at it. Cara. Cara, carousel. Carousal. It's basically it's basically Netherlands B team, isn't it? Let's be honest. Caro. Um yeah, Carouso.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, it was it was crazy. He got an absolute beating dick, didn't he? I mean, he got his shit back in the dugout there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh good old Dick Avocate. Was it Southampton?

SPEAKER_02

Where was he? Where was he? Middlesbrough.

SPEAKER_00

He's been about Dick.

SPEAKER_02

Um so there was that, and then I stayed up for the Ecuador game. Ecuador have one of the best defences in the world, right? And I think they're unbeaten in 19 and qualifying, hardly conceded any goals at all. The problem is they don't score goals. And Ivory Coast are pretty decent, but it's not the old Ivory Coast with you uh with your Salamon Calou and um Didier Drogba and you know the big names in the past. And then I was all over the nil-nil. I went, this has got 0-0 written all over it. You know, this is.

SPEAKER_00

He wasn't happy, was he? Belgium's about to kick off whilst we're recording this right at the minute. So obviously, I'm I'm I'm excited to see uh Doku and Kevin De Bruyne are obviously blues playing for Belgium. So looking forward to that in a bit, and obviously on the opposite side, uh, it's Egypt, of course. Marmoushin, is Salah playing? Yeah, Salah's playing as well. He starts.

SPEAKER_02

I think it might have been last four World Cups. I've been going Belgium, Belgium, Belgium, Belgium, Belgium, does it? And it's never happened. And and a lot of those players are getting older. Yeah, alright, we got um, you know, Doku coming in there as well. But at one point, you know, Lukaku is on fire and De Bruyne was, you know, in his 20s. And I mean, he doesn't need to move anymore, does he? He can be a Zlatan and just ping them three kicks into uh into the box.

SPEAKER_00

But um Yeah, he doesn't need to do the running. They can save they can save his legs. Uh the Doku can do that. He's ridiculous.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god, he's I mean again, again, are we testing this lad on a regular basis? Because no no human being should be a bit like Tevers, no human being should still be able to go that speed in that heat. Move on to England, please, Nigel.

SPEAKER_00

We've talked about England quite a lot. There's still, for me, only three positions in that team where I don't even think Thomas Tuchel knows just yet. I think he'll he'll do his final training session. I think one of the biggest questions is who's gonna play number 10. Is it gonna be I think a lot of people thought it was gonna be Morgan Rogers until the friendly um against Costa Rica, and it really clicked for Jude Bellingham. So I think Bellingham will get the nod ahead of Rogers, but he does fa favour Rogers. Uh Morgan Rogers has started nearly every single game so far for him, but it really did seem to work uh that midfield three. So I don't know who would you play? Who do you think he will start at Rogers and Bellingham?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I thought he was gonna start Rogers, I really did. Um, and also not really to prove a point because he's not that sort of manager. To to prove a point, he will put the best team out that he believes. You know what I mean? He wasn't seeing the the Jew Bellingham of Peak, uh, and I thought he'd play Morgan Rogers, who has been fantastic at Aston Villa, just absolutely outstanding. And I thought he'd start there, but now the more I thought about it and looked at it, um I think he's he's got to start Jude.

SPEAKER_00

I think Jude starts, I do, but obviously not long now, a couple of days till we find out, and it all kicks off. The other two positions, really, I suppose centre back, uh originally, again, going into the tournament, similar to the Morgan Rogers situation. I thought I thought it would be uh Mark Gay and then one of either Conza or John Stones. But now it looks like Gay might not even make the starting lineup, and it could be Conza and Stones who uh who start in the middle. What I don't know, what do you think is gonna happen there?

SPEAKER_02

We know I liked John Stones anyway, and John Stones is a pick, and we've mentioned this a couple of times on podcasts previous. That he he he always goes to two John Stones when there's a question asked, and you like Fergie used to light his light up when he he called everybody by the by the surname apart from Wayne, uh, Wayne, and also Skulls, so be that like Gigsie, Carrick, and Fletcher, and all this, but and then he'd talk about Paul Skulls or whatever, you know, Paul Skulls are brilliant, or Paul, or Paul. Um, and I think I think that's what we've got. Every time Jude Bellingham's brought up um or John Stones, the the he's starting to light up a little bit Thomas Hugo.

SPEAKER_00

But this is it, it's weird because after the season that he's had, obviously, you know, Mark Gay had a great start to the season with Palace, then he's moved to City. That's been an absolute success for him. He's been brilliant. You would have thought he was nailed on to start, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Conser and Stones and Mart Gay misses out. Every other position picks itself other than the left wing. Do you go Gordon or Rashford? And again, he favoured Rashford to begin with. And I would have thought he was nailed on. But you know, Gordon, not only is he uh played quite well in the last game, last friendly, but he's also effectively meant that Rashford's Barcelona career's over, taking his spot there for Barca. So I d I don't know who starts on the left, mate.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he's looked at it now and he's gone, Spain have got a Real Madrid player, so we need to have one as well. So let's go for uh Barca player rather. Let's go for uh Anthony Gordon.

SPEAKER_00

I'm very, very excited now.

SPEAKER_02

I can't wait. Genuinely, I'm I'm I'm knackered. I've been at I was Royal Ascott starts tomorrow, and I was down there today to do all the previews, and it's it's a bugger of a drive driving back up, and there was a big crash on the M6. Uh and um and I'm pretty I'm pretty knackered. Uh I'm about to watch the um the Belgium game now and um Egypt before I pop off to bed and set my alarm for four o'clock in the morning. I thought today was Tuesday, and I thought tomorrow was the day. Now, coming back today from Ascot and being stuck in a lot of traffic, you're looking around quite a bit, I've seen more and more and more. Not not to the extent that it was, you know, a few years ago, but I'm seeing more and more and more on lorries, especially. England flags. England, England flags and stuff. The Star Intercom, especially when you get in the Birmingham area as well.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? Oh, honestly, I I'm I'm just dead excited, me. I can't wait now. I really cannot wait. Wing Wednesday at the local pub. Oh, did you get three wings with every pint? Why don't you come down and watch it?

SPEAKER_02

No, I was just thinking, right? Because you always say that Ari Maguire's in there, yeah, having his having his wings at Wing Wednesday. He might be there. In all seriousness, what do you think the players are doing now that are not in the in the World Cup squad? Because when I got been from Radio One, I didn't listen to the station for about five years because could it because I could I couldn't. I couldn't, and it was nothing against anybody, it was just like that's me home. So if you're Harry Maguire, you know, who was very much expecting to go, um, and we were expecting him to go, he's the one out of the lot that that probably really expects and it's the last World Cup as well, wouldn't it be? Yeah. So, you know, what's he what's he doing? Is he gone holiday? Has he just disappeared off the face of the earth? Is he not interested in the football? Is he you know I I I I don't know. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I think they'll keep an eye on it, but on a beach in Barbados, or I don't even know if the weather's nice in Barbados this time of year, but you know what I mean. They'll be in luxury somewhere in a in a gorgeous hotel on the beach, having a great holiday. Why not? But I reckon you definitely have the match on, even if they've just got it on the phone on the dodgy stick.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, imagine he's on the beach with his hooky stick and his laptop, and the copper comes along.

SPEAKER_00

What's this, mate? Do you not know I am? I'm slabed. I'm slabed. Bloody hell. That's a big nightmare. I mean, uh, you know, I mean, I think he was definitely on his holidays, um, Foden, but then he came back for the misfits boxing, and then he he I think he'll have gone on his holidays again. Surely you can't you don't want to sit in your local pub, do you, when you've when you've got the summer off? You might as well go and enjoy some sunshine.

SPEAKER_02

In Stockport. They all the Turkish barbers at the weekend uh last springs in like three kids, six, seven, and nine or whatever. And she just went, All right, we all want Phil Foldens. I'm sitting there thinking, you know he's not gone to the World Cup. Surely you want a you know, you want a different one. No, they all want Phil Foldens, three of those, please, my mate. Of course they do, of course they do, mate.

SPEAKER_00

The guys an absolute ledge. Right. Well, listen, the next time we do this podcast, I'll be off the back of England's victory. Let's hope. Fingers crossed, I'm jumping ahead, but surely we're gonna beat Croatia. Oh right.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, is it oh hang on, is it coming home?

SPEAKER_01

It's coming home, son.

SPEAKER_02

Are you feeling it? I'm feeling it, man.

SPEAKER_00

I'm feeling it.

SPEAKER_03

Hurricane takes the penalty! Hurricane against Jordan Rummer's number That's what I mean. It's another one.

SPEAKER_02

Just thanks for listening, I will be back later on this week.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, everyone, come on, it's gonna come.
