Episode 30: That’s What Friends Are For (and Spoons)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this end-of-the-school-year episode of DYSNST Ep 30, Micah and Addie kick things off with their usual chaos, catch up on Addie’s week, and celebrate the podcast’s first ever listener message. Addie also shares a big personal update: she and her boyfriend broke up, and she’s been spending more time on Snapchat meeting new people and spreading the word about the show. From there, the episode shifts into a fun reflection on her freshman year of college and the friendships that made it memorable.
Addie reads favorite college memories submitted by friends and roommates, including stories about late-night Spoons games, first-week adventures, random dorm hangouts, campus exploring, double dates on Tinder, and unforgettable nights out. Special shoutouts go to friends like Natty, JB, Austin, Chitty, Cade, Rachel, Lacey, Val, Jack, Drake, Rex (well not really REX), and her roommate Nat Nat, whose sweet message about their friendship and shared ER trip adds a heartfelt note to the episode. The conversation is full of inside jokes, roommate stories, and a few wildly funny quotes from the year.
To close things out, Addie shares her own favorite memories from the year, including dancing at Rodeo4, meeting Izzy, New Year’s Eve with family and friends, and building a weekly ritual with Micah through the podcast itself. Micah reflects on how meaningful those conversations have become and how the show has helped them stay connected. The episode ends by highlighting the importance of making time for the people who matter most, while also revisiting some of the most ridiculous quotes from the year.
What?
SPEAKER_00Hush. Everyone else has a bubble in their mouth for this.
SPEAKER_04Like when you're in elementary school and you have to hold your breath while you're walking through the halls.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I said catch a bubble to everybody.
SPEAKER_04Catch a bubble. Oh, dude, check this out. Like, I was I yeah, I don't know if this is real. Uh you know how Zoom has this AI companion thing now?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04One of the things it says is like uh create notes for me. And I'm like, um, this AI would be all jacked up if it was trying to create notes for us because it would not know how to categorize everything because we go from A to C to D to R to W.
SPEAKER_00And then back to B, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And then back to B. It always ends up in B.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, you do you want to intro you us an intro send and I'll see what we're doing today.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I already hit record. Hey uh welcome to the Dad You Should Never Say That podcast. A podcast where we don't really know what's happening. We just meet once a week and then we talk. That is true. That is my radio voice. If I was gonna be on radio, that would have been what it I still think we should have. I'm still gonna talk to Sirius Radio and see if we can have a late night radio show.
SPEAKER_00That would be so fun. It's just like an hour.
SPEAKER_04And then like every hour we have to do a shot, and then we have a three-hour show.
SPEAKER_00And then we just do I have class the next day, like no no, this is after you're out of school. Okay, cool, cool, cool.
SPEAKER_04This is when you're chasing homicide.
SPEAKER_00That's cool. I got I ain't got glass on Tuesdays.
SPEAKER_04Like it's when you're chasing homicidal like uh serial killers or whatever you're gonna do. I'm not doing it. When you have to teach the next day.
SPEAKER_00I have to teach the next day. Yeah, when I have a 9 a.m. class the next morning about homicide.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so this is this is episode 30.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_00Uh we're in the we're in the 30s, we're in Trenta.
SPEAKER_04Um, and so I should I mean, this it's really not 30. We're actually like 32 or 33, but sometimes me and Addie don't know how to count, and we like to do an episode that's like half an episode.
SPEAKER_00It really doesn't mean anything because we couldn't get our special guests like couldn't come or like something happened, and so yeah, and honestly, like we've we've missed a couple weeks, so this would probably actually be like 39 had we like actually done every week, but it's okay, things happen.
SPEAKER_04And it doesn't matter because why? Because we got our we got our first ever comment.
SPEAKER_00We did, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Someone said a first message that said, This is so fun to listen to.
SPEAKER_00Yay!
SPEAKER_04Rando person from Texas who didn't leave a name or anything. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so I have been more active on Snapchat, right? Which I know you don't like, but I've been more active on it. Um can we talk about the thing? The thing that happened, the major thing that just happened.
SPEAKER_04There's lots of major things that happened. What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_00Girl, the thing that happened last weekend, the major, major thing.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, yeah. We can do that.
SPEAKER_00Okay, cool. So um, I'm single. Me and my boyfriend broke up. Um, we're not gonna get into it in this episode. We might we might deep dive in in a couple, once everything kind of cools off, we'll do a deep dive.
SPEAKER_04In a month, a super deep dive.
SPEAKER_00We'll have we'll have a deep dive into what happened. Um, because he didn't listen to this while we were were together. I doubt he listens to it after. So anyway, I'm single, whatever was the whole thing happened last weekend. Um, and so I've been more active on Snap because I've been like trying to like meet new people, and I I'm not I wasn't really on it while me and him were together because I had no reason to be. Well, I have no reason to be.
SPEAKER_04Like, is Snap just a hookup place?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no. It's like you can meet people, but like I was I was so locked in on school, and like I had my close friends here and I had him, so it was just like I just hadn't didn't really have a reason. Well, now that I'm back, um I have over 2,000 people who have added me. Nice since I've like joined, but more recently I've had like 400 something people add me, and I like go through and make sure there's no weirdos, whatever. I do I do my due dil diligence and I unadd the people who are weird.
SPEAKER_04Can you really tell?
SPEAKER_00No, but I I do my best. Once things start getting a little weird, I unadd people.
SPEAKER_04Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00Okay, because I'm not really into that. That's that's girdy, girdy stuff. Okay, well, I posted about the the podcast on my story that my story has 600 views. Nice, and I had a bunch of people swipe up on it and be like, hey, look, I'm gonna give this a listen. Like, I'm actually really excited about this. You guys look funny. So I'm hoping that maybe the random people on my snap our downloads up and maybe get us monetized.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yay.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, there's just a little there's there's my weekend, there's my weekly update.
SPEAKER_04That is awesome. I'm gonna go do the same thing to MySpace as soon as I get off this.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so everybody's on MySpace now.
SPEAKER_00No, okay. Let's talk about what we're doing today. Okay, so uh we're doing so. I know, that's why I'm gonna talk about it. Okay, so this is a special episode. Every five episodes we do a special guest. However, this one's a little bit different, however, and Micah doesn't know anything about it.
SPEAKER_04I'm pretty worried about it.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't know a single thing about it. So it is the last week of classes. Like this week was like the last full week of classes. Next week we have like two days of classes, but nobody really goes to class on the last week, and you don't really do anything. So this was the last week of classes, and then next week is like dead day, and then which is like classes are dead, and then final start, right? So this is technically like the last podcast of the school year because I come home next Wednesday or on Wednesday. So the next time we film, we'll be in the same house, maybe the same room. I don't know. We gotta figure we gotta figure out that dynamic of how we're gonna film for a little bit, whether we're gonna go back to being in two separate rooms or if we want to like sit on a couch across from each other, whatever we want to do.
SPEAKER_04That's true, that's true.
SPEAKER_00We'll figure it out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and maybe maybe that's when we start like we'll roll out our first video episode and people can see what we look like, but and put name faces. I almost said names to the face faces, and that didn't make sense.
SPEAKER_04Mains to nases.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, so this is the last episode of basically my freshman year of college. So I thought it would be so fun to text all of my friends that I've made this year, and I have the two of them with me, and then everybody else, I have a text from them, and they're I'm gonna read the favorite moments of their first year in college. Oh some of them are a little wild, and some of them are really cute and sappy. So are we naming these?
SPEAKER_04We naming these people?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm 100% name-dropping these people.
SPEAKER_04Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm name-dropping.
SPEAKER_04Um so this is basically the end of the year, end of the school year edition. Kind of.
SPEAKER_00Kind of. To next episode, we'll do like a like an actual like wrap-up, and I'll I'm gonna I'm gonna write out everything that happened this year, and I'm gonna give you a wrap-up of how my freshman year of college went, and I'm gonna talk about every single thing that happened. Um, and we're gonna get your reaction on everything that happened. Like a history of history of Addy's freshman year.
SPEAKER_04Freshman year. Gotcha. All right.
SPEAKER_00This episode is more about the ending of like school, I guess, as well as all of my friends' favorite moments. And I'll give you mine at the end.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, so we're gonna start with our two that we have here in person, and then I'll read the ones that I have.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, the first one, and I'm gonna intro all these people like they're here, like they're our special guest, because all of them are our special guests, even though some of them couldn't make it because they have busy lives.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_00Um, and they're studying for finals.
SPEAKER_04Lame.
SPEAKER_00And they didn't have 10 minutes to come down here. Okay, so our first special guest, um, you know her, you love her. She was here episode five. She was the first special guest, and she's back! Yay, give it up for Natalie Henajosa. Woo!
SPEAKER_04Who is that?
SPEAKER_01Say something. Say something, say something.
SPEAKER_04No, Natalie. I can't see her face, just see like half her eyeball. Hi. Who is that again? What is her name?
SPEAKER_00Natalie Hanhosa. I just said that.
SPEAKER_04Nat Nat Natalie. Natalie.
SPEAKER_00Do I need to fight him again?
SPEAKER_04Let's fight!
SPEAKER_00Okay, so we're bringing back this is Natty. If you don't know Natty, go watch episode five. She was our first ever special guest, so we're bringing her back.
SPEAKER_04And we call her Natty because she likes natural light.
SPEAKER_00Right. No, that's how we're calling her Natty.
SPEAKER_04No? Oh.
SPEAKER_00No, but okay. Um, Natty and me have been best friends for five years. We came to college together, actually. Um, and a lot of people say that you and your best friends aren't friends after freshman year of college, and I feel like we're closer than we ever were.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think we're chilling.
SPEAKER_00Um, okay, so give us your give us quick what is your favorite moment or time or event that happened freshman year of college?
SPEAKER_01Um, let's let's go with the first week of college. First week we moved here. Um, we met a lot of people. We stayed up until four in the morning playing spoons.
SPEAKER_00Only recently, though, we did we didn't do it that like we did at the beginning of the school year and then now the end of the school year. Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01This is my favorite one because we just kept on adding people to it. Like people would pass by and they'd come and sit at the table and play spoons with us.
SPEAKER_04All right.
SPEAKER_01That is true.
SPEAKER_04Wait, wait, I got a question for her.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04What is your favorite memory of me your first year in college? Oh wow, silence.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I I just don't mind buying one. I have one.
SPEAKER_04You just want to fight me now?
SPEAKER_01No, okay, yes, but no. When we went to go get our tattoos. Oh yeah. When y'all went to go get y'all's tattoos, right? I didn't get one that time, but yes.
SPEAKER_04Not that time, but not that time. Ooh, in a couple of days, huh? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, I'll give you my favorite moment of you after because I think it's a funny moment. Okay, our next special guest. This one we met this semester.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Well, okay. We met him last semester, but we became real close friends this semester. We love him. He's from our hometown, kind of. He's close by. Um, not gonna dox him or anything. Um, but we love him.
SPEAKER_04Um I will dox him. I don't even do I know him.
SPEAKER_00No, he's the little he's he's our he's our one of our favorite people on campus. We see him way too much. He cries over dogs at the animal shelter.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, his name is Jonathan. We call him JB. Here's J.
SPEAKER_05JB.
SPEAKER_04What up, JB?
SPEAKER_05None much.
SPEAKER_04You how's how's the estrogen in that room?
SPEAKER_00It's pretty high with him in it too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, well, that's a little TMI. That's fine.
SPEAKER_00Okay, give us your give us your favorite moment.
SPEAKER_05Favorite moment had to be probably the first two days being here. First day met some random frat that I decided to join. That didn't go out too well. And then the second night went out to a bar with my roommate when I only knew him for like 24 hours.
SPEAKER_04Nice. And did you have to bring him home or did he have to bring you home?
SPEAKER_05Uh a mix of both.
SPEAKER_04Perfect. That that's always a good first week of college, from what I hear.
SPEAKER_00Here's the funniest part. I've known JB's roommate for a very long time, like since before high school. I've his roommate. Can I name drop? It's Bryson Clayton.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know him too.
SPEAKER_04I know that guy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We love him. We love the guy. Anyway, they're roommates. They live on my floor. I didn't even know. I didn't know that like they were roommates, and they were roommates. I didn't know that they were roommates.
SPEAKER_04You can't say roommates like that because then that entitles something else.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no. No, it's a meme. Roommates. There's a vine, and it's like, and they were roommates.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, okay, so those are our two in person, and then I have I have Wait, hey, wait, wait, wait, real quick.
SPEAKER_04Both of them are like at the beginning of the year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's been a roller coaster every year, so the beginning of the year. So I mean, at the beginning of the year, nothing can go down.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I gotcha.
SPEAKER_00Because it's completely fresh because you don't know what you're walking into.
SPEAKER_04Okay, just make sure I was understood.
SPEAKER_00Okay. This one is kind of accidentally, sort of kind of in alphabetical order, but not really. So we're just it's the order that I received them in. These are all my friends. And you're gonna meet most of them when you come up here. Some of them you know and you love. Okay, the first one, he we love him. He's very fun. He's a fun guy. He does not know how to hold his alcohol. Um, his name is Austin. He's from Dallas. We love the guy, he's very fun. I don't really like people from Dallas.
SPEAKER_04I don't really like people from Dallas.
SPEAKER_00Me too, me neither girl. But we do like this one. He was actually one of the first friends that we made on campus, one of the first. Um, he was part of the OG group of playing spoons until four in the morning. Okay. Um, he is how we met a bunch of other people that are listed down below. So we love him. Down below what that I have like list, like that I have listed. Okay. I know.
SPEAKER_04I know. Okay.
SPEAKER_00I'm just making sure we're gonna start with him just because he was one of the first people I met. Okay, so this is his. I'm gonna read it verbatim of how he texted it, except for not the cuss words.
SPEAKER_04Dear diary.
SPEAKER_00And that's how all of them are.
SPEAKER_04Dear diary.
SPEAKER_00This is Austin said mine is gonna be that one night, the that one night where I went to my friend's room, and me and Jax started speaking in a code language, and we were laughing our asses off. People were so confused, and we just kept trolling.
SPEAKER_03Hmm.
SPEAKER_00And I don't have any context for these ones, and they're not here to ask questions. Um, I know.
SPEAKER_04So this is gonna be really weird because I just want to ask let's just make up stuff. This is like a Texas Tech confessional episode.
SPEAKER_00Kind of, except for that it's not anonymous, and they're all freshmen. Um, or at least first year students. So I think this is funny because I like that they just started speaking in a code language, and we actually I met Jax months ago and had no idea his name or who he was. He we just called each other twin, and then I actually full on met him two nights ago and like learned his name and he learned mine. Um we were playing poker two nights ago, and that's how we met him. All right how I officially met him. Thanks. Um, but this definitely does sound like an Austin and Jax thing. Um, I also have another thing about Austin and Jacks that I don't know if I can say on this podcast.
SPEAKER_04I mean, what's the that's the whole point of this podcast?
SPEAKER_00Is that we ask for forgiveness later because I really hope neither of them ever listen to this.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Okay, so me and don't say it if it's gonna be real bad.
SPEAKER_00It's not that bad. It's just funny. It's it's more funny than anything else.
SPEAKER_04Okay, well then we don't care.
SPEAKER_00So me and Nat, me and Natty, um, we decided to download Tinder, right? Just for funsies. We did it, we downloaded it back in July, um, and then we both undone undownloaded it, and then we both recently re-downloaded it. Just just for funsies, right? And so I don't think you've ever been on Tinder. I'm gonna assume you haven't. So here's the thing on Tinder, there's a new mode, and it's called double date. So it's you and you can pick another person and you can find these two these two other guys that are paired up and you can go on a double date with them, or how we like to call it a two-man.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00So we're scrolling one night. Me and Nat are sitting together. We're scrolling, whatever, we're having fun. Nothing serious, like we're just we're just looking at the guys, and most of them are in Lubbock. Well, Nat comes across Austin and Jax set up on a double date on Tinder. And we screenshotted it, and I showed Austin that I had found him on Tinder, and he laughed so hard. And I found multiple of like our guy friends on it, and I just think it's funny. But I thought it was funny that we found specifically a double douche, double date. It's just a double date.
SPEAKER_04But so like you go in there and you're like, Hey, I'm gonna tie up with my buddy Sam. And so now it's Sam and me are looking for two hoes.
SPEAKER_00I mean, not necessarily hoes, but yeah, I mean well, I meant you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04It's tender.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, you never know, but okay, I think it's very it's very funny, especially like to see because like some of the guys that are put together, they're like you could tell one of them is like the cute friend, and the other one is really in need of a wingman. Um and so I think that's one of the funniest things is because you'll see the guy'll see one of the guys is like six foot three, athletic, like really smart, and then the other guy's like five, seven.
SPEAKER_04Okay, wait, wait, wait. So who's the wingman between Austin and Jax?
SPEAKER_00They both are like it's they're like double wingmen. I love them. I love both of them as friends, but neither of them get it like that. And they both have admit they've both admitted it, which I think is the funny part.
SPEAKER_03All right, well, okay.
SPEAKER_00So the next one is one of Austin's friends that we met playing spoons. Um, this is Chitty. I've talked about him before.
SPEAKER_04Yep, Chitty.
SPEAKER_00Um, we love Chitty. He's a funny guy. Chitty. Also Nigerian. I don't think I mentioned this. Austin's Nigerian.
SPEAKER_04Oh no.
SPEAKER_00Chitty's Nigerian, also from Dallas. Great guy. This is what it says. It says, My favorite moment from this year. My favorite moment this year from our group was whenever we'd just be in your room or in the lounge, just watching a movie as as a friend group, or when we played card games. It was really, it was really just a fun time screaming and playing around.
SPEAKER_04Oh, chitty, so sentimental. That's nice though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was really cute. That one was cute.
SPEAKER_04I'm not gonna say cute, but yeah, I I get your drift.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that one was really sweet. Some of them are really sweet, and some of them are funny. Um, so that one was sweet. Uh, we love Chitty. He we literally we met him legitimately. We were playing spoons. He had just gone back from the gym or the wreck, and I think he was playing basketball, and Austin calls him over, and they didn't even really know each other. They just both there okay, so there's a group chat for Stangle Murdo, which is where I live. Um, right? And it's just the Nigerian people who live in our dorm room. They all have a group chat together.
SPEAKER_04Whoa.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't I don't know why, they just do. So they knew each other from the group chat, but they didn't really know each nate know each other that well. Well, then Austin invited Chitty to join us in spoons after he like took his shower. Um, and so he joined and we became he became part of the friend group.
SPEAKER_04I mean, are they good at spoons?
SPEAKER_00No, they're they're not. But we we taught them we taught them how they everyone's gotten better uh as the year has gone on. Everyone's gotten better at spoons and poker and blackjack.
SPEAKER_04I just want everybody to know there is a there is a new uh phenomenon when you play spoons, is you are allowed, as the person is bringing the spoon back to them, you are allowed to take it out of their hand.
SPEAKER_00No, you're not. That's how it got banned on our own.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying, I'm just saying, apparently it's an it's a rule. It's called the Tiris rule. And when you have it and you're bringing it to yourself, you can snag it out of the person's hand. There is no off time.
SPEAKER_00No. That's why we're not allowed to play it at Family Get Togethers anymore.
SPEAKER_04Well, maybe. Maybe soon.
SPEAKER_00Maybe. That would be a fun game for the rivalry.
SPEAKER_04Drunk rivalry? I mean uh sorry. Yeah, the SOB.
SPEAKER_00That would be a funny game. Just a giant game of spoons, and they're like across the yard, so you gotta run and go get them.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. Yeah, we should combine a whole bunch of different games together. Sack races with spoons, oh yeah. Uh Flip Cup. Flip cup, yeah. Like an obstacle, like an obstacle course. Perfect.
SPEAKER_00Okay. The next one is actually somebody you know well. They are at tech with me, but they went to high school with me. And I texted them super randomly, and I was just like, hey, I'm filming the pod. Um, and I would love to get your favorite moment. Okay. So the next one, he is an engineering major. We know him, we love him. He was a section leader with me. He's a great guy. Um, I'm gonna name drop all of these people, so I'm sorry. Cade Rue, we love you. He'd be a fun special guest on this pod. He's a really great person. So he said, My favorite memory was when I went with a group of friends to Paladuro Canyon and hiked up one of the mountains. It was a great time to know to get to know and connect with my friends even more, and overall it was a really great experience.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Yeah. I mean, hiking canyons. I mean, how far is that from Lubbock?
SPEAKER_00It's not that far, it's about two and a half hours. We've talked about we've talked about going. Um it's outside of um Isn't that where you guys were wanted to Camarillo? Um, somebody wanted to camp and I said no because I don't want to camp in the middle of a mountain. I will hike the mountain and then stay in a hotel.
SPEAKER_04You're bougie. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, you're glamping. You're glamping or your hotel in it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I'll hike it, don't get me wrong. Like that sounds fun, but I'm not staying in the wilderness with a group of girls with no nobody to protect us and no pew with us. So I don't want to get demonetized or taken down, so I'm gonna say pew pew. But I don't want to not have a water gun with us.
SPEAKER_04You can say gun.
SPEAKER_00I don't think we can. I think you can get in trouble for that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, anyway, I think that one's super cute. I think that's a really great idea. I really want to go to Paladuro. Um, I think we're definitely gonna go next year at some point.
SPEAKER_04Thanks, Cade, for joining the show.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay, next one is also somebody that I went to high school with that you know and love. Um, she is not at Texas Tech, actually. She goes to Texas AM. I've known her, she's been my one of my day ones since sixth grade. Yeah, I've known her for going on gosh. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04You can't even do math.
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to think. It's been forever, almost eight years now. I've known her.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and so I texted her again, super random. This is what she said. This is Rachel, Rachel Oates. We love her, she's at Texas. Yes. She said, My favorite moment from freshman year was definitely exploring campus with my best friend. We found some awesome places to eat and study and would just wander around campus. Super fun to just explore and meet new people and to get familiar with the place that you're gonna be at for the next four years, and obviously the football games.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, they're a medium, they're medium okay. Did she go with her best friend too?
SPEAKER_00She went with one of them, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I got you. Yeah, I remember Odyssey. She's cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she's great. I actually have plans with her next week.
SPEAKER_04Nice.
SPEAKER_00So excited. Um, but yeah, I think I think that's a great moment of just like kind of like when you first get to campus and just kind of exploring campus.
SPEAKER_04Um for sure. I mean, it is AM, so meh.
SPEAKER_00But um, next one is a little bit shorter. It's this is um this is one of our roommates for next year. She's from close to us, actually. We never knew she existed until this year. She lives right down the hall from me. Um you're gonna meet her coming up. Um living with her next year. We love her. She's our little she's our little southern bell. Um next up we have Lacey. Um we love her. Um, met her this year randomly. I stumbled into her door because their door was is always open. Um, started talking to them, and now we're that because you that because you can walk in a straight line. Yes, actually. I tripped. Um, but it's okay. We don't gotta talk about it. Um, she said, I would just say that my favorite moment was getting to make new friends and becoming so close to my roommate Lily.
SPEAKER_04You know that sounds like I'm not no Lacey, that's awesome. Because you can get random, you can get stuck with randos and you're like, oh shit, this sucks, this year's gonna suck, kind of thing. Yeah. But uh that whole phrase sounds like a cheerleader. Like, I'm I'm gonna my uh what are those people called that are that are like your sister, your what is it when you're like a senior and you got like a sophomore you're supposed to like prop up? You're little? You're little. That sounds like she's talking to her little.
SPEAKER_00No. Um we love Lacey and Lily. Um, me and Natty are rooming with them next year. We have a townhouse together. It's gonna be so much fun. We've already started planning. Um, we've we all became so close.
SPEAKER_04And um Lily, Lacey, Natty, Addy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it'll be it'll be fun. Um, we all have like our floors are all our floor, like my floor and Nat's floor connects. Lily and Lacey's floor connects, but they don't connect together, but it all connects to the downstairs. It's very we have it very, very well planned out right now.
SPEAKER_04Sounds very weird.
SPEAKER_00So our house will definitely be.
SPEAKER_04I am taking our dog. What's the dog gonna do? What level is the dog gonna be on?
SPEAKER_00The dog is gonna be on two with me, but everybody is also completely okay with just leaving their door open when they're home and just having her go cuddle with them. Okay, well, so and she's gonna have a little princess bed in the downstairs area as well.
SPEAKER_04Because she's she's out of all the women that have been in this house, she is the bougiest. Which is saying something. Besides Nat, besides Natty, she's a little bougie.
SPEAKER_00She's she's just a little bougie. Um, okay, the next one. I'm gonna save my roommates for last because I think hers is really, really sweet, and I'm gonna I'm gonna wait for that one. Um, okay, the next three are kind of funny. Um next up we have Val, one of your daughters, you know, everything. Hopefully, she'll be on a special guest episode over the summer when we continue this into the summer. Hopefully she'll end up being one of the guests. I think I definitely want to do an episode with all four of us, with all four of the main daughters. Just to see, just to see how crazy it gets. Um, hers has nothing to do with college at all, in any way possible.
SPEAKER_05Of course.
SPEAKER_00It says when I got BTS tickets and when we secured the cruise.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean, those are hers. That sounds that sounds kind of like her, like little tall singing Asian men are her deal.
SPEAKER_00That is true.
SPEAKER_04Maybe she's trying to meet one at the casino at the cruise boat or something.
SPEAKER_00Well, she actually ended up getting tickets to BTS for two different concerts. She's going to Vegas to see them and she's going to El Paso.
SPEAKER_04She is dedicated.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Even though there's just gonna be a stadium full of girls her age screaming.
SPEAKER_00100%, yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's not gonna be like she's gonna meet any Asian dudes because they ain't going.
SPEAKER_00Definitely not. Um, but anyway, I thought hers was funny because like has nothing to do with college. Um, the next one is a man of very few words. We love him to death. He makes some very bad decisions. He's from a real small town. He owns the famous quote of, Let me put my drinking shirt on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We have Jack Kelly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Jack, we love Jack Kelly.
SPEAKER_04The legend of Jack Kelly.
SPEAKER_00The legend of Jack Kelly, who actually is, I think, a secret racist, and it's the funniest thing ever because his roommate is Chitty, who's a Nigerian dude. And if you walk into their room, you would never know that a black man and a white man lived there. It's very, very funny. Um, but they got along really well.
SPEAKER_04What do you mean?
SPEAKER_00Like it's oh, there's like Trump, there's a Confederate flag, like there's Trump.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Like there's a sign on the door that says no in words in here, but it's because you can't say the N-word in their room, but it sounds really bad if you just like if you didn't know what it meant. Yeah, but it means that you can't say it. Um so we love him though, but he that he said when I met my roommate, because him and Jack and Chitty are best friends now. Right. Um, and then when I met you guys, nice. That was his very short man of very little words.
SPEAKER_04Um this is Jack is the player, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes, Jack is the player. Jack is the infamous, the infamous Jack Kelly.
SPEAKER_04The I like Torta's.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, yes, yes. Um but we love him. He's he's one, he's one of the funniest people I think I've met on campus. Um, with or without intoxication. He's one of the funniest people. Um, I get the most random texts from him, and I think it's very funny.
SPEAKER_04Um that's okay for me to say that word, right? Tortas. Everybody knows what that means.
SPEAKER_00Uh Tortas is a food, actually, so you're fine.
SPEAKER_04No, it's not.
SPEAKER_00Tortas is a food, it's a type of Mexican food.
SPEAKER_04I know, but it's also a type of thing. I know what I know what it is.
SPEAKER_00No, I was trying to no, I was trying to I was trying to help you out there.
SPEAKER_04Oh, no, no, no. No, I'm just saying. It's not bad.
SPEAKER_00No, it's not bad. It's not like a it's not like a bad term, but it's just it's a it's a classification of Mexican women. All right. Um, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04They show up on my Instagram feed. Thanks, Aaron Simchick. I sent him one, and then he thought it was funny to send me two, and now my feed is full of them. This is like years ago. Anyway, right bye.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so we have one of the funniest ones that I got was a sentence long, and this was from the literally the first person I met on campus. Um, him and his roommate, we love them to death. They are the biggest alcoholics that we have ever met in our entire lives. Um but you know what? They're from they're from close to us. Um otherwise known as Drake and Josh. We have Drake and Rex.
SPEAKER_04Um Drake and Rex.
SPEAKER_00I don't have one from Rex because he never texted me back. He said he would give me one and then never do it.
SPEAKER_04Sounds like sounds like Rex.
SPEAKER_00Sounds like Rex. Um, but I did get one from Drake, and it is again one sentence long.
SPEAKER_04Perfect.
SPEAKER_00And all it says is I lost my shoes at a football game.
SPEAKER_04I mean, that's kind of kind of hits deep a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I have no context to when this happened, how this happened, but that's all I know.
SPEAKER_04Could have been a female flag football game and he just lost his shoes.
SPEAKER_00Who knows? But um, yeah. We Drake and Rex are literally were the first person we ever hung out. The night we met them, we hung out with them until four in the morning in their dorm.
SPEAKER_04What is up with four in the morning with you guys? Everything is four in the morning.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of you say four in the morning, but it could have been six, it could have been three thirty.
SPEAKER_04Like it's just kind of oh, so you're just a known liar. You don't even know what time it is.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes we don't. Sometimes we look and we're like, dang, it's 5 30 in the morning. We watched the sunrise come up last weekend. Um it was I was about at 8 a.m. It was a problem.
SPEAKER_04Way to go finals.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it wasn't on a school night, that's all that matters. And I don't have any finals, so um, anyway, I think that one's funny. Yeah, we love Drake and Rex, they're they're a fun group. Um hopefully, I think we're gonna see them out tonight because we're going out dancing and normally they're out when we're out. So um, really fun group. Um, they have a really fun group of friends. Um they were the night that I had 14 people in my in my room, they it was them and their friends.
SPEAKER_04So nice.
SPEAKER_00Well, um okay, the next one I have is actually my roommate, and the reason I waited because it's actually really cute. Um, and it's really, really sweet.
SPEAKER_04This is NatNat.
SPEAKER_00This is NatNat. It says, My favorite moment from this year is obviously meeting Addy because a lot of people get bad roommates, and I got such a good one where we created a lifelong friendship that I'm gonna forever cherish, and also just all the fun parties as a freshman, and just getting to live independently and really finding myself throughout this experience. If I had to choose one particular moment, it would be taking her to the ER or meet or her taking me to the ER, because it really just showed how you can meet your best friends through just such crazy moments.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that is crazy to have that together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, last semester she took me. I took her this semester.
SPEAKER_04Um that's weird. But yeah, Nat Nat is awesome, even though she's from Colorado.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she's one of she is honestly probably my favorite person that I met this year. I love so many people that I met this year, and I will cherish our friendships forever, but I truly think that she is the favorite, my favorite person. I mean, we've lived five feet from each other for nine months, right? And I honestly don't know how I'm gonna live without her and her dry shampoo. Like, I really, I really don't, and I don't know the amount of clothes she's stolen from me for nights out, like it's just it's called Walmart. But it's just like it's just like the feeling of knowing that like you have somebody that lives right next to you that has your back no matter what. Like I've DD'd for her so many times, or not that many because she doesn't drink that much, but I've dd'd for her throughout the semester.
SPEAKER_04Why are you winking at me?
SPEAKER_00And throughout the year, I didn't wink at you, and then um she's helped me through moments like she went through a breakup and I was with her and we talked about it. And going through my most recent breakup, she was with me and we talked about it, and um, just all through all the crazy things, like we've had so many late night deep conversations, and right we're literally getting a tattoo together tomorrow.
SPEAKER_04I didn't know NatNat was dating anybody.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she was when when the year started, she had a boyfriend from back home who was still.
SPEAKER_04Oh, well, that guy's a loser anyway. Yeah, we were loser, bye.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04All boys are dumb.
SPEAKER_00Those are all those are all the ones that I have. So shout out to Austin, Chitty, Cade, Rachel, Lacey, Natalie, or the other Natalie, Drake, Val, and Jack for sending me your favorite moments of this year. They were all super cute, super fun. Um, and I definitely agree with a lot of them. Um and I I wish that we had gone to Paladuro this semester or last semester, but I know for sure that we're definitely gonna go next year.
SPEAKER_04Hey, and don't forget to give a shout out to Rex. This episode could have been awesome. But he's a loser and he didn't send his own.
SPEAKER_00He could have said something. I also didn't get some from some other people that I'm friends with that I texted. So if you didn't send me one, you missed out on your shout-out.
SPEAKER_04Um because this is going to thousands of people.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, it is.
SPEAKER_04Um now that we're on Snapchat.
SPEAKER_00Okay, now for my favorite moment of this year.
SPEAKER_04Perfect.
SPEAKER_00I have so many favorite moments, honestly. Like this year had so many ups and downs. Um, like it was a roller coaster of a year. Some crazy stuff happened. I went to the ER, and we'll get into that next episode where I'll do like a I'll do basically, I'm gonna write everything down that happened, um, and we'll do it, we'll do a recap. But um, like even like we're at the end of the semester and crazy stuff is still happening. Like last night, crazy stuff happened at a Taco Bell at 12:30 in the morning. Like, it's constantly just crazy stuff going on. Umestly, one of my favorite moments was the first time we went to rodeo for. Nice. It was the first or second time we went just because I love dancing. Uh, me and me and Nat both do. We went with a group of friends, we had so much fun. Um, and I actually got to meet, I got to reconnect with somebody that I had known for four years from Bandcamp.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_00Me and that girl are no longer friends, sadly. But I did through her get to meet one of the girls that I'm still so close to to this day. Right. And she's like our mom. Like she's like 23 or something, like she's not even in college. Um, but we see her every weekend we go out. She's we're constantly texting each other. Every time I need something or she needs something, I know that I can go to her for like an older figure. Um, and honestly, one of my favorite moments of this semester was literally meeting her. Um, just because she has been such an amazing person um in throughout this semester of just like always being there for me and always texting me and knowing that I can go to her and seeing her and dancing with her and all these things, and like also her telling me all the drama going on in her life. Like, it truly was one of those one of those fever dream moments of I met her one night at a bar and all of a sudden we're best friends.
SPEAKER_04And uh we haven't said her name.
SPEAKER_00Oh, sorry, Izzy.
SPEAKER_04Izzy. Okay. Yes. I don't know, Izzy.
SPEAKER_00No, you don't, sadly.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's fine. I'm sure I'll meet her one day, maybe.
SPEAKER_00One day. Um she is one of those people this year that I don't think I could have gotten through this year without for sure. Like, she brings the party everywhere she goes, she's an amazing person. She's such high energy. No matter how much she has going on, she never lets it affect her relationship with other people. Um she's always there for you.
SPEAKER_04Like crackhead energy.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no. I mean, she definitely is a drinker and she can hold her alcohol, don't get me wrong. But no, she's just um she's just very good, like good spirited. Like she is just an amazing person through and through.
SPEAKER_04So I didn't go to school this year. Right.
SPEAKER_00So my two favorite moment.
SPEAKER_04I got to go to a Texas Tech football game.
SPEAKER_00Whoop-whoop.
SPEAKER_04That was fun. They didn't throw tortillas, which a bunch of not allowed to anymore. I know, but someone should have just at least I should have seen one one cowboy who was like, no, you can't tell me I can't throw tortillas. And then I think the second one, it didn't happen at tech, but when you guys surprised me at Waffle House, which we talked about on here, you know, I got to see like a bunch of people of my of my people. That was fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was a fun night. And we got to introduce you to um Al, our little little ow. Yeah, little Al. Um, that was definitely a fun moment. I have so many great moments that like didn't that happen this school year without ever being at school, like things that happened over Christmas break that were just so much fun. Like um, oh my god, like New Year's morning breakfast at 9 a.m. when everybody came back to our house for breakfast in the morning. Yeah, and we planned our entire summer vacation in one breakfast, and then we booked it two days later.
SPEAKER_04Like 45 minutes late, 45 minutes of non-stop cruise talk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and we literally booked it two days later, and now it's paid for, and we're rocking and rolling, and we're like 70 something days out or something crazy.
SPEAKER_04Nice.
SPEAKER_00Um, like I have so many great moments from this year. Um, my favorite moment with you this year um actually also didn't happen at tech. Um, I have one that happened at tech and the one that didn't. My favorite moment with you this school year has been was um New Year's Eve night.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Of just all of my friends, all of the people that I love, like all of our friends together, sitting on the back porch, hanging out, asking stupid questions, having dumb conversations, listening to you play guitar, like Yeah, that was fun. It was just such a night of randomness, and it was one of my favorite nights of the year. Um, and it was a great way to bring in the new year.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we played games, we played, we shot fireworks, we weren't supposed to shoot.
SPEAKER_00We did we did all kinds of stuff, but um yeah, that was that was a good one. It was a really it was a really fun night.
SPEAKER_04Um and I have to say too, that's probably one of my most memorable new years that I've had in a long time.
SPEAKER_01Oh, for sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um that those are those are like a little different. You go out and do all the things, but being home and then like having all of your people around, yeah. Just a little different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was it was definitely one of the I think to me, I think it might be one of my core memories for a very long time. Like it was just one of those nights that like so like we did so much stuff, like we we played games, we had conversations, um, we did all kinds of stuff, and y'all you guys watched like um Stranger Things at midnight, yeah, and I was and I was like, I don't do scary. Um, but like you guys got that opportunity to do that together, and then everybody ended up going home for some reason because like everybody had like some kind of reason that they had to go home. We were like, okay. And then the next morning everybody was back at our place at 9 a.m. And it was just a crazy, yeah, crazy fun time. That whole that whole like New Year's Eve's Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day was just so much fun.
SPEAKER_04Um and I think that's why we started we we thought that the the summer games would be so much fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Is kind of somewhat because of what we did all then there.
SPEAKER_00For sure. Yeah. Um, and then my favorite moment at tech with you is kind of just a combination of moments, but it's um it's honestly just this podcast and all of the other random times that you call me and we talk about random stuff. Um it's really just it's it's such a blessing to have such an amazing relationship that I do with my dad. And I know that some people aren't lucky enough to have that relationship with, you know, with either their dad or some parent in their life. And um it's something that I will always be grateful for that I have I have an amazing one-on-one relationship with both of my parents. Um, one of them has been amazing for a really long time, and the other one is now becoming a really great relationship. Um and honestly, like being able to just sit down once a week and talk about the most random things, it literally just lets me shut my brain off.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_00Um, and just kind of have an hour or an hour and a half before and after to just not really do anything because the points don't matter and nothing ever ever matters of what we say. Right. And half the time we're making stuff up.
SPEAKER_04So and we have like we're making stuff up, it's just none of it goes together.
SPEAKER_00Oh, no, 100% not. Um, like like there are there are there are podcasts where I'm so tired at the beginning that I'm like, I don't even know if I want to film today. And by the end of it, I'm like, I'm like, I could go run a marathon. Like, I'm so it gives me so much energy to just sit here and talk about the random things with you. Um, and it truly, I think. has helped my semester so much of just being able to or not even my semester but just my year of getting used to being far away from home right but also making sure that every week I have an opportunity to sit down and just talk with you know somebody who's so important in my life.
SPEAKER_04Um sometimes it's fifty we talked 15 20 minutes before we even hit record. Yeah before and after like um just depends what's going on but we've used that was the whole purpose of this for most people's yeah it's funny and yeah I say some dumb stuff over the years and blah blah blah blah blah but a lot of it I think when we intentionally first started was like it's a way for us to connect yeah show and I think some of it was to show like yo this is how the daddy-daughter relationship should be even if your dad is an idiot yeah um it's definitely like being able having the opportunity to do something like this like even if even okay this is my call to action for everybody even if you are not going to go start a podcast with a with somebody important in your life make a time where you talk to them once a week for 30 minutes and have set and like maybe something comes up and you move it back an hour move it up an hour like this podcast sometimes we film on Wednesdays sometimes we most of the time we film on Thursdays.
SPEAKER_00Today we're filming on a Friday like yeah but like just have a time if you're going far away and you're starting something new have a time and it doesn't have to be one of your parents it can be a sibling it can be in cousin it can be whoever you want um for me I was just lucky enough to have such an amazing relationship with my dad that this was and this was something we talked about for years of just let's just like I think I have I have pictures from 2021 about us talking about this. Yeah um and so just make a time and every week on the dot talk to somebody in your life because I really think that it changes your brain chemistry at some because like it's it ha and making sure it's somebody that you can laugh with and have fun with like I don't know the last time I called Micah and we didn't hang up laughing or we weren't giggling in the middle or even same thing with like my sister. Like I don't think there's been one conversation I've ever had with my sister Emily that I have not giggled the entire time like it's it's just one of those moments that like have somebody in your life like that um that can really just bring that out of you once a week and make sure to talk to that person once a week when you're starting something new or just in general but especially when starting something new like starting your freshman year of college.
SPEAKER_04Yeah and I I want to try to get better probably starting this summer about like contacting Natty and and all my all my daughters at least tell them that the opportunity is there that if they want to um that I'm here to have a conversation.
SPEAKER_00You send Val and her sister money the other day to go get lunch.
SPEAKER_04Yeah oh well that was not the other day that was like a couple weeks ago yeah spring break because because Al was but I don't think I've ever talked about it. Al was going to college with a hangout with her sister for spring break and I was like here's 30 bucks y'all go have lunch on me or something like that.
SPEAKER_00Well Valerie calls me and goes did your dad mean to send me money and I said my dad sent you money and he she goes yeah he sent me like 30 bucks was it meant for you and I was like my dad doesn't send me money so it wasn't meant for me you've already complained about it on the podcast before so but it's just like it's moments like that of like it's moments like that that like that that's the reason we started this podcast. Um the other reason is the quotes the crazy quotes that we have of you so in honor of that I'm gonna read my favorite quotes from no it's not even from you I'm gonna read my favorite quotes from TTU this year.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yes close us out with Texas Tech quotes I'm gonna close this out with I'm gonna close us out with Texas Tech quotes and then I'm gonna bring one of yours back since it's the end of the year and I feel like I have to okay okay so um here are some of the favor my favorite ones from this year. As always one of the best from Jack Kelly himself I gotta put my drinking shirt on well don't even don't even say who they are that way nobody has any context to what was actually going on. Are you learning Asian? Okay um that's a college kid okay this one's a college kid grandma cover your ears um this I'll I'll give a little bit of context for this we were playing cards against humanity and somebody couldn't read and this is what happened pennies penis oh crap penis yes one of the one of the best um he keeps saying stop resisting like I'm the black one in this relationship wow one of the craziest quotes I have in general but definitely funny from this year um and on the same on the same tone you know that I can break in just look at my skin color um did your like this one makes no sense in or out of context did you have parents to begin with when you were born I mean they did have test tube babies in like the 60s and 70s but I don't know if they do those anymore um the black guy's opinion doesn't matter just straight up the black guy's opinion doesn't matter um and for context some of these quotes you're saying are from black people is not like some of these quotes I'm saying I'm saying are from people they're from Nigeria everything quoted in here what is funny and not racist or derogatory in any way and everybody giggled that's why it's quoted there you go um drop me off at Skeets so that I can grab some ass okay Skeets is a bar um I would sell my coochie on the corner for some canes disrespectfully wow okay I'm gonna end this on I'm gonna end this on one for me and one from you okay this one I said very recently this is mine for the semester that I that I really think encapsulates my semester okay five five men I didn't know we made them like that anymore I mean there's a lot of different variants of the way that could go but I'm not gonna say anything okay um and now one from you from also this year it technically was this or it was this school year um I have two so I'm gonna have you pick a number one or two they're both equally as bad. Let's go with number one okay every ready this is how we're gonna end the episode.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
