Intro
SPEAKER_01Hello and welcome back to the show. As always, I'm your driver Spencer, sitting shotgun is Breck, and this week with a podcast asking the important questions. Like, are small towns really Vegas vibes now? Is demon love kind of cute? And are fairy tales a little ooky spooky sometimes? This is be afraid of the dark.
SPEAKER_00Pertinent questions. How'd you how'd you come up with those?
SPEAKER_01I not gonna lie, never prepare for the intro. Ever.
SPEAKER_00I just it's true. We used to. I used to write specific ones and now we just wing it.
SPEAKER_01I just hope it it I hope it happens.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes I start a sentence and I just go along the way.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that is legitimately and exactly true. Um anyway, we are covering two episodes of Supernatural, and I say we just
"Sin City" Discussion
SPEAKER_01get into it.
SPEAKER_00Let's get into it.
SPEAKER_01Alright, season three, episode four, Sin City, written by Robert Singer, directed by Charles Beeson. I lied to you. I thought Bedtime Stories was written by or did I say that during You said Bedtime Stories was written by Robert Singer. I lied. I was con I was a whole other thing. I know. I'm a filthy, filthy liar, pants. Anyway, uh this episode I did not remember. I remembered one scene from it, and we'll get to that scene. Uh, but I I I enjoyed this one.
SPEAKER_00I did too. I thought this one was fun. It's a it's a fun concept. Yeah, it's a fun little it's got a fun little demon romance in it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it kind of expands demon lore in a cool way.
SPEAKER_00It's really, it's been it was a fun episode. What's the what's the the the graphic novel? Sin City. Who wrote that?
SPEAKER_01Frank Miller.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. I was like, Frank, and my brain would only go Frank Grillo, and I was like, that is so not correct.
SPEAKER_01Not Frank Grillo, no.
SPEAKER_00And why was Frank Grillo never on Supernatural?
SPEAKER_01That's actually a great question. Where was he? Anyway, uh this episode opens with a nun in a church. Great cold open location. Yes. Uh she's putting away books. This priest walks over and hymns, yeah. Hymns, is that what they are? Yeah, this is. A priest kind of jump scares her and hands her one more. She's like, Let me let me walk you to your car. And then they look up, and I can't remember this guy's name. Andy. Andy is up in the second, like the balcony area, and he essentially is like, God, God can't, he's not us. He can help us. If even if he could help us, he wouldn't. Yeah. And then he blows his brains out.
SPEAKER_00You're like, oh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the nun screams, the priest looks up in horror. Uh, we cut away from that. Um is that our cold open? That's our cold. That's the whole cold open. Yeah. Actually, a pretty quick one. Um it is.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, I was like, wow, is that really the whole cold open?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm honestly, uh, it was mostly I've been watching a true crime thing that involves a lot of nuns. And so seeing nuns, I was like, I forgot nuns were real.
SPEAKER_01Supernatural is great. I was thinking about this, both of these episodes. Supernatural is great at uh progressing the plot even in filler episodes. Yeah. Where it's like the whole episode is not them progressing towards any sort of goal, but there's always like a secondary, like the B plot. Honestly, the C plot in both of these episodes has been progressing the the narrative. Um anyway, so we cut to Bobby's cabin. He is has the cult completely disassembled, and he's looking at all of it, and Sam and Dean are making bullets, and uh Sam comes in and essentially, hey, we have you know, there's there's um demonic omens in this demonic omens, thank you. Yeah, demonic omens in this small town. He talks about the cold open kill, and then somebody went postal in a like a yeah, um in a postal shop, I think.
SPEAKER_00I think oh in a in a scrapbooking store.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, something like that. So they and I love this bit here where they kind of tease Bobby, both of them, where they're they're like, How's the cult coming? And he's like slow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they kind of poke at him, they're like, Well, will it be done by Friday?
SPEAKER_00Is it gonna be done? Or and he's like, It won't kill a demon, but it'll kill a you.
SPEAKER_01No, his line is quite literally. I love this. I just love the teasing because it makes them feel like two brothers teasing their dad, and that that's that's their papa.
SPEAKER_00It's so mama y Papa.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but the line is, Well, it won't kill demons by then, but I promise it'll kill you.
SPEAKER_00Like, he's like so funny. Yeah. Dean also gets off a great thing where Sam like rattles off that it's this like small town in Ohio that's like a half-dead town on the Rust Belt. And Dean goes, There's gotta be a demon in South Beach. Like my guy just wants to go somewhere nice. He just wants to go get a tan. They never will. They never will. I literally I stopped and thought about it. I'm like, they really don't have any like beachside like things. You're telling me there's never like an episode with a haunted lighthouse that they can go do? I'm writing it. There's gotta be at some point. I'm writing fanfiction tonight. Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, um, they get there, they're talking to the priest, and we kind of the information we find out in this scene uh is that like one day, two months ago, these two guys that committed these acts are just changed. And Sam's like kind of like possessed, and the priest's like, well, you could say that. Um and again, the important information is it was two months ago. So the idea of like a cursed town in some capacity is really fun and cool. Very into that.
SPEAKER_00And of course they say two months ago, so it's only been two months. This has only been it's only been two months, but it's only been four episodes, and we've already crossed two months. Yeah, two months is a month. Which is a little crazy. So Dean only has ten months now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sookie spooky bad.
SPEAKER_01Uh um, so then they get they kind of figure this out.
SPEAKER_00Uh what are they They just are talking about how the town itself has kind of gone to seed and all these guys are changing, and like the head of the rotary club, which I've still never figured out what the fuck a rotary club is. Someone put a time in.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't I don't want to know. Some things shouldn't be known.
SPEAKER_00I like I'm like, because I'm like, what, like a phone club? I don't fucking know. Um but it basically like, and they're like, oh, and this guy, and you know, the town's hall gotten to seed, and like blah blah blah, and they like so it's just it's a very interesting idea of this idea that demons aren't just um causing evil for fun, like they're also like these literal like things that bring about like sin and iniquity and blah blah blah. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay, so then they get back to the hotel. Uh they walk in and there's a mirror on the ceiling, and Dean Dean finds that very funny. Hilarious. The door's left open, somebody across the hall comes out, and Dean's like, hey, Richie. Um Richie is funny. He's a funny little one-off character. Um so Dean, it kind of is revealed that uh him and Dean ran into each other on a hunt, and Dean saved his life, essentially.
SPEAKER_00Uh but there's this hunt for a succubus, no less.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's this great line where where um Dean's like, I remember I showed up right before the thing toasted you, and Richie gets a call. He starts back at him, he goes, FYI Winchester, words hurt, which I thought was very funny. It was very fun. Uh a very fun line. Um he's kind of telling him, he's like, I I it's gotta be demonic activity, but I can't prove it. And they're they're that's right where they're at. They don't have anything else to go off of.
SPEAKER_00And he also, I think it's fun that this is like I like Dean while Sam was at school lore drops, where Dean's like, oh yeah, you were at school, like blah, blah. And this is, I think, probably Dean's first friend that Sam meets that isn't a total douchebag.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's just kind of oh, he is a total douchebag, but in like a not in a in a somewhat endearing way where it's just he's got a weird personality.
SPEAKER_00He's not actively trying to kill Sam. There it is.
SPEAKER_01That's the truth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's he's someone that they're that Dean is actually friends with that is not an and like angry at Sam in any way, and it's just like, hey guys.
SPEAKER_01That is accurate.
SPEAKER_00Rolls up and is like, he's just he's a side character on Sopranos that never made it to Sopranos.
SPEAKER_01Like he's so funny. Um so they kind of find out that there's this dude in town named Trotter, and he kind of owns everything. That's the only thing that uh Richie could really dig up. So they go check it out. Sam and Dean pull oh, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Dean puts quarters in the magic fingers. Oh, that's right. Yeah. We don't get to see him use it, but we do see there is an acknowledgement of said magic fingers.
SPEAKER_01Kid little grin when he notices the magic fingers. Uh so they go out, and I don't know what they're emulating here with this sequence where it's it's like cutting a lot and weird. This episode is directed in a very weird way. Yeah. Um, they're they're clearly trying to do something, and I don't necessarily love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't I don't know exactly what it is, but I mean there's some fun things like the the lady in the car, and Dean walks away. Yeah, it's like it's got good shots. But it's weird. It's got some fun stuff, but it's it's definitely again, this is a lot of setup of like this town's getting to shit. Yeah. I'm getting too over this down, like all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Um they get into the bar and they start talking to Richie or Sam or Sam. I can't talk. Dean wants to flirt with somebody, and Richie's like, I already got something set up with her, so don't even think about it. Yeah, the bartender. Dean doesn't believe him. They see the priest at the at the Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00The um right after Dean says you could fit that ass on a nickel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The priest calls him on it.
SPEAKER_00It's so funny. Do you remember, do you guys remember like in the mid-2000s when they says that about the bartender specifically? Yes, he says about the bartender specifically that that bartender has an ass that could fit on a nickel. And then do you remember when like the mid-2000s were such a weird time that not having a big butt was a good thing?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This is just another thing that I like about how old this show is. You can literally watch beauty standards change over the span of 15 years. It's kind of insane if you think about it.
SPEAKER_01Uh it's true. So he kind of calls them out and they're like, Father Padre, uh, what are what are you doing here if you don't mind me asking?
SPEAKER_00Dean always calls them Padre, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he he essentially the priest essentially just goes, Oh, you have to go where your flock is, and so he gets up and leaves. Um, they kind of keep talking, not sure what's really going on. They kind of flirt a little bit with the uh oh, the hurricane bit. Yes. Where where Dean's like, what uh what's good? And she's like, I make a mean hurricane. He's well, I'll see about that. And he looks back at Sam, said you drink hurricanes now? He goes, He's like, I do now.
SPEAKER_00Hurricanes are weird, dude.
SPEAKER_01Um so he takes that and then all of a sudden they're looking around. Uh Richie's gone off into the bathroom and just disappeared. They don't know where he is. And a guy walks in and he comes over to a dude playing pool, and clearly something's not right. The guy's like strung out, and uh Sam spots his gun. Sam spots the gun, they run over, he shoots the guy across from him. They find out he's that guy slept with his wife. Yeah. Dean tackles him, takes He's about to kill himself, too. Yeah, he's about to kill himself, and then Dean takes the gun, Sam sprinkles holy water on him.
SPEAKER_00The guy's like, What the fuck?
SPEAKER_01Um Yeah, he's like, What the f- What is this? What are you doing? Anyway, um, they kind of settles down, Sam looks up, and the guy they were looking for that they couldn't get to is Trotter, the guy who owns the town, is staring at him with this like grin uh you know glare. That dude is like a TV alum. He's in the pilot episode of Psych. Like he's a he's a big thing.
SPEAKER_00I'm fairly certain he plays Bobby's father on Twin Peaks. Yeah. Call me out if that's incorrect, but he looks a lot like that guy. Also, a thing that we didn't mention is I think it's hysterical that the the father is like talking about he makes some comment of nickel or no nickel about the the bartender too, which you're like, Yeah. What do you know about her?
SPEAKER_01Anyway, so that happens. The cops are there. Um essentially the sheriff's like, ready for your mugshot? Or uh sorry, Sam's like, we need to get out of here. Oh, yeah. A lot of cops. Dean says, keep it cool. Uh the sheriff or a detective or a state or whatever walks up and he's like, You ready for your mugshots?
SPEAKER_00Or no, he's like, You ready for the the reporters to come take your picture?
SPEAKER_01No, he said mug shot because that's what made Sam get scared. That's right. Ready for your mugshot. And then he they look up and they're confused, and yeah, then Sam goes, or then he goes, Yeah, the you know, photographers are on the way ready for uh take your picture for the paper. Yeah, you local heroes or whatever. They're like, Great. He walks away and they're like, We need to get out of here. So they stand up and they go, Wait, where's Richie?
SPEAKER_00They're so bad at being inconspicuous.
SPEAKER_01So then we cut to Richie with the bartender, he's made it back to her place, and they're walking down these stairs into this creepy fucking chamber. And Richie's such an idiot. You know how you have a chamber in one. Listening, she's like, wouldn't you be more comfortable like in a bedroom or my motel? And she's like, you know, you gotta bet, I got toys. And she walks in.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, he's like, I got oils, and she's like, I have toys, and he's like, Toys beat oils.
SPEAKER_01Cool. Um, walks in, uh, she's revealed the bartender is revealed to be a demon. Quick reveal on this, and she snaps Richie's head completely around.
SPEAKER_00Crazy way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Full 360, blood runs from his nose, his eyes kind of roll back. Crazy kill.
SPEAKER_00I kind of can't believe they we could they got away with that.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna say that every episode from now on.
SPEAKER_00I know, but there are some things where I truly am like, isn't this network television?
SPEAKER_01Is what it is. So he drops, cuts a commercial break, and when we come back, Bobby is out by uh by a babbling brook. Yes. Um, and he's shooting targets, and the cult is not very accurate, we learned, because he misses the targets both times. He's kind of messing with the the um the trigger and the the hammer and trying to side it in. Bam, blast again, doesn't work. Holds the gun up, boom, Ruby is standing in front of. This is the scene I remember. I don't know why this is like burned into my brain.
SPEAKER_00Because it's fun to see Ruby.
SPEAKER_01It's fun to be by a babbling brook.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um Wow, I did not know you felt this way about babbling brooks.
SPEAKER_01I do, I feel this way stronger.
SPEAKER_00Well then why don't you marry her?
SPEAKER_01Okay, my bad. Um so anyway, then she's kind of taunting him, being like, Let me help you with that gun. Or uh taunting him, reveals herself to be a demon. Bobby goes, Great, finally something to test this on. Yeah. So anyway, I started blasting.
SPEAKER_00So I started blasting.
SPEAKER_01Uh she's like, What are you gonna do? Keep you know, whatever she says, and or you're gonna shoot and he shoots her square in the chest and it does not kill her.
SPEAKER_00It makes me giggle. She's like, Ouch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and she's like, Are you gonna shoot me again or do you want me to help you with that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So Ruby knows how to fix the cult, potentially, we think.
SPEAKER_00It's also fun because she actually is talking to someone who's not Sam.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is fun. You're like, oh, you're not just hiding, you're not hiding around with Sam.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And so then they they split uh Sam and Dean agree to split up because Dean's worried about Richie. So he goes looking for Richie, and Sam goes, I gotta go check out Trotter. Because I the way he was staring at me made me uncomfortable. Something's gotta be going on. So uh Sam goes and tails him. Dean's looking around for hangs out with the bartender. He hangs out with the bartender, talks. So a bunch of that kind of.
SPEAKER_00Casey, her name's Casey.
SPEAKER_01Casey, that's going on. Um, a a sex worker tries to uh hit him up and he turns her down.
SPEAKER_00She's like, I usually charge 400 a night, but for you I'll call it an even deuce, and he's like, he makes some comment. She's like, He's like, what do I look like? Yeah, and then Casey's like, Did I just see you strike out with a prostitute?
SPEAKER_01So while this is happening, while they're hitting it off, and he goes, You want to get a drink after your shift? She goes, Why wait? And they leave. Yeah. Uh Sam is breaking into the mobster's office. Yes. And he gets in and he's searching around, he can't find anything. Guy comes in, he beats the shit out of one mobster. Uh Trotter puts the gun to his head, he takes the gun from Trotter and goes, Look, I just have to be sure. And he sprinkles holy water on him, nothing happens, and I'll just let you talk about this next bit.
SPEAKER_00He's so cute. He's like, um, sorry. Um I'm gonna get out of here. Like, it's it's so good.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna, I'm gonna take and he like awkwardly pops the bolts out of the gun.
SPEAKER_00Like, there's something so endearing about it where he's just like, he's just a little guy.
SPEAKER_01He's just a little guy.
SPEAKER_00He's just a sheepish little guy. I'm so sorry. Like, I guess I didn't really mean to like hold like gun on you or anything. Like it was just like.
SPEAKER_01He like leaves the gun and when he turns around, he does like full on does one of these, he's like, It's so funny.
SPEAKER_00Scurries out of the hole. It's genuinely it that's like a C that I always see in like Sam Edits when he's just being because he's just in full cutie patootie mode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he truly Jared is having up the cutie patootie.
SPEAKER_00We have not gotten him to be cutie patootie a lot since season one, so it was nice for you know how things are gonna get worse. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, okay, so then Dean seemingly is getting lured into the same chamber. Yes. And at first you're like, Dean, you have to be smarter than this. I know. But then, twist, he reveals he essentially says that he tracked Richie's phone, saw it here, got there, gave him a proper burial. So he showed up, took Richie's body, because she's like looking around for something and we don't know what. Then she turns and she runs and she like leaps at him and like bounces off of something invisible. Uh Dean kicks up the rug that she's on and he has her trapped in a uh devil's trap. I love it. I love a surprise devil's trap. So fun. Um, it it is always a good time.
SPEAKER_00Should we start doing that under every rug?
SPEAKER_01I think so. Yeah, I would love it painted on the ceiling above us every time we shoot. You'd never see it, but we'd know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it'd be fun.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, so he has her trapped, and then she goes, he's he's pulls up in his book and is gonna exercise her, and she goes, I don't think so. Yeah. Close her eyes, and all of a sudden wind is blowing around, and I love this that the book gets like torn and ripped out of his hand and slammed against a wall, the wall starts to crack. And the doorway, like the the stair, the stairwell, uh caves in, and Dean can't get out. And so then they're looking and essentially like, Oh, stale mate, we're both trapped here. Yeah. Dean goes, Well, I'm gonna send you back to hell. She goes, Right. And he tries to do the exorcism. Can't do it, can't do it.
SPEAKER_00He really sells those first three words and then he stumbles. And then he tries again. And she's like, Oh, I think you just ordered a pizza.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh she's funny. I like this demon. She's funny to me.
SPEAKER_01And I like their relationship that builds up, especially in the last moment, which we'll talk about.
SPEAKER_00It's fun. I love a good trapped in a room together having to like not cooperate, but just like, there's nothing to do but chit-chat.
SPEAKER_01So the rest of this episode is gonna be a little bit weird about cutting back and forth. So we're just gonna talk about it loosely and not worry about that, because it is just essentially the rest of the episode is Sam looking for Dean and Dean talking to uh Casey. Casey, the bartender demon. Anyway, so Sam uh Dean's looking for a way out and he can't, she's kind of taunting him here and there.
SPEAKER_00Let's slip at this point, too, that he's um the Winchesters are like famous. Yeah, yeah. And she calls Dean likable.
SPEAKER_01She's like, You're not like what they say, you're like, but um essentially she taunts him and is saying that she has backup coming, so who's gonna get there first, Sam or Dean, which is a fun ticking clock for the episode. Um they kind of sit down, Dean's looking up, trying to get a signal on his phone, can't do it. He gives in. While this is happening, while the conversation starts, Sam um goes back to the bar and he goes, talks to the other bartender. He's like, Hey, did uh you know the guy I was with yesterday? Did he come in and he goes, I don't know. Yeah. Why why I wouldn't tell you that? And so Sam has to bribe him and he's frustrated by this.
SPEAKER_00Uh he's like, yeah, he left with Casey.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Casey's like, why I would never give away a co-worker's address.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh and he goes, He's like you sick peeping tom.
SPEAKER_01He goes 42 Becker Street or whatever.
SPEAKER_00He's like, No, he's like on the corner of something in Clinton or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like he's immediately, without even missing a breath, like gives up the address.
SPEAKER_00I love the random one-off characters in Supernatural that have no name and just use their time to shine to be funny as hell. Yeah. It's a it's a great thing.
SPEAKER_01Uh so then Sam goes off looking uh to break into um Casey's apartment. Casey?
SPEAKER_00Casey's apartment, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Casey Caseom's. Um anyway. Uh you know that Bill Hayder impression that he does of Casey Caseums? That's really funny.
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to get the BTK off death row.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, trying to get the BTK off death row. Um anyway, okay. So Sam breaks into the apartment, and I have I just have to ask this question. Why is the sulfur always in the weirdest spots? It's like behind a photo.
SPEAKER_00Yes, like it's behind a photo of that has like a rosary slung over it.
SPEAKER_01Is there a reason for this? Genuinely, I would love to know.
SPEAKER_00My assumption is it's always like by it seems like it was by a window, and I was like, Oh, she like fled a window or something, but like I don't know.
SPEAKER_01So Sam realizes she's a demon and Dean, cut back to this conversation. Dean is asking, What's the plan? Is there a plan? And she says, There actually was until you killed yellow eyes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And she calls him a fanatic.
SPEAKER_00Um and she calls him Azazel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. A name drops Azazel, and he goes, Azazel? He's like, Not everyone calls him yellow eyes.
SPEAKER_00She's like, she's like, he's not yellow eyes to his friend or something, his friends, or something like that. And she also um he kind of gets her to talking about like what exactly they've been doing in this town, and he's like under the assumption they've been she's been possessing people. Yeah. She's like, literally, all I had to do was tell Trotter that's what businesses to play into. Like what businesses to play into, and it took this long. Like people, she's basically she has this very cynical worldview of like human human nature is easy to push towards um bad habits. And they have this really interesting conversation. We get our first ever in the entire show, I believe. Name drop of Lucifer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh no, it is. I wrote that down. They uh she brings up we're raising Lucifer. He's like, Lucifer's real.
SPEAKER_00And she's like, what, like god? She's like, Do you think God's real? And they have this really interesting.
SPEAKER_01And beautiful, she's talking about how Lucifer is a is a beautiful fallen angel and his name means lightbringer. It is.
SPEAKER_00Lucifer Morningstar means lightbringer.
SPEAKER_01I know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We all know.
SPEAKER_01Wonder what that's about.
SPEAKER_00Um they have this really, I think this is kind of a you know, that I don't love the directing of this episode as much, but the writing of this episode is really good, yeah. And I really it's you know, it reminds me of faith in terms of these kind of abstract religious conversations that supernatural will have, and they have this really like she's like, Oh, like why believe in God? Like, and Dean's straight up like, I don't know if I believe in God or not. Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_01He's like, I would like to.
SPEAKER_00But which is something Spencer and I have both said many times. Like, it would be nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, she also she also points out that the body count has uh that humans have racked up amongst themselves has shocked even the demons over the last. Well that, and then she also brings up that uh Sam was supposed to be take over as leader, and he hasn't really stepped up to the plate and he was supposed to uh guide these demons through this war, and then she also lets out right at the end, she's like, just so you know, I was ready to follow Sam.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she's like, I was ready to do this. Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and uh to and asks him essentially about like, you know, you have a one-way ticket to hell, and he's he asks what it's like, and she's like, Not good.
SPEAKER_00She's like, Why do you think we all want to be here, bud? Like, and she doesn't even say she's like, You're not getting a good room in hell, you're getting a pit of despair.
SPEAKER_01Like, yeah, and so and and she goes, You worried about that? And he goes, What's the point? Or he's he says it's a big loadoff, actually. He goes, the line is what's the point worrying about a future when you don't have one, huh? And she kind of calls bullshit on that, yeah. And and you can see in Jensen's face that it's bullshit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um they also can't she also throws a Dick Cheney stray during this conversation where she's like, Dick Cheney, she goes, he's one of your team goes, What, he wanted yours? And she goes, No, but we have a special spot waiting for him. Man, and that's Dick Cheney died, what, a couple months ago? Three, four or five months ago?
SPEAKER_01Um anyway, all all the demons, uh it's also revealed all the demons are essentially fighting for the crown now. There's no real organization.
SPEAKER_00It is, it's it's chaotic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's very chaotic at this moment, which explains a lot of what's been going on in the general season of like no demon is really sure what's supposed to be going on.
SPEAKER_01In in the car, the priest is asking Sam all these weird.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we didn't even touch on him meeting the priest at the bar yet.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah. Sam, sorry, we like I said, the cutting back and forth is very intense. Sam meets the priest at the bar, asks him, says that the brother, all this stuff. The priest is like, Oh, I've known Casey since she was in pigtails and he goes, I'm just I have this feeling I'm worried about them. So the priest helps him find them because it's not at her apartment.
SPEAKER_00And there's a shot when the priest stands up and turns away from Sammy. He's like, if Casey's in trouble, I'm going. And then his eyes find out. His eyes are like, so like Casey's made a throwaway comment about how she's not here by herself. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And in the car, uh the priest asks a bunch of cryptic questions.
SPEAKER_00They get to Which I also I I want to point this out too. I really like it because obviously these demons don't know them, but either the demons are the regular like, these are the fucking these are the Winchesters, these are hunters. Let's not be stupid here. But he's like, Oh, so how long have you been an insurance adjuster and everything? Like making fun of him. He's like, That's your brother. I thought that was your coworker. And he's like, It's a family business. You know how insurance adjustment is a family business. Yeah. Um and he also's like, You seem very smart. You seem like you could be quite I like this part. He's like, You seem like you could be leader of the pack.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, what are you doing? Um, which it's again, you know, obviously if Casey, who's we find out is his demon like lover, yeah, like these two clearly were like, dude, d just rule us. Like, we're good with this. Like, take it away, bud.
SPEAKER_01Uh anyway, they get to wherever this place is. Is it the church? Is like underneath the church?
SPEAKER_00No, she says it's like some house that her family owned, or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, well, but that's what the demon's lying about. But I guess it is house. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Um, they get there and they're looking around the house, and Sam pokes his head up, and uh she's essentially like, You win, I guess. And he goes, uh Dean's like, I'm here with the father, and Sam goes, or Dean essentially, be careful. You know, Sam gets up, walks around, pulls out his holy water, and the demon is there. It's not looking good, and then bang, a statue blows up. Bobby's here with the cult, he cocks the cult again, and then Bobby gets flung, and the CGI is not good. It was so that initial shot where he goes like it's like way too fast, and his body bends wrong. It's super funny. It was making it I love when these guys get flung, and all three of them get flung. So Bobby gets flung out of the way, Sam rushes forward, Sam gets flung out of the way, crashes into a car and is like out of breath, wind knocked out of him. The demon goes into the house, bursts open the uh tunnel.
SPEAKER_00Ruby's there too, I believe, by the cult.
SPEAKER_01That's in a second, yeah. Oh, sorry. But anyway, yeah, bursts open the tunnel, comes in, Dean's getting the shit kicked out of him now. Sam gets off the car, rushes over Bobby. Are you okay? And he hands him the cult and he says, Take it, go, go. Ruby walks up and goes, You heard him, Sam, take it and go. The demons are reunited, but he breaks out, destroys the devil's gate before he's trapped, and they kiss. And they essentially say they've been together for eons to hell and back, which I think is actually really cool.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of like sweet and romantic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's something that it's literally, ooh, you know.
SPEAKER_00It's just kind of cute. Like, oh, you guys are like damned for all eternity together.
SPEAKER_01And then he grabs Dean and starts choking him to death, and she's pleading for him to stop them. Yeah. So stop, let's just go. We don't need to do that.
SPEAKER_00Which I think is again this really interesting, like, you know, again, we've already, and it's only season three, come so far from episode four of the whole show, of it just being like demons don't really care about anything. Yeah. Like they're just kind of like here for mayhem. Yeah. And this demon is clearly like and she also has made this comment before of like, oh, like I don't want I didn't want Richie to like stab me with that knife because I didn't want Casey's body to be hurt. Yeah. Like she she kind of is clearly like has some thoughts and emotions and is a little more protective. Yeah, we find just that there's this more there is a continually graying spectrum of what demons are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is really interesting and fascinating.
SPEAKER_01So anyway, priest's demon is not listening until bang, he's hit, he drops Dean, he stumbles back, and for a second you're like, oh, it's not gonna work. And then the classic supernatural lightning through the body as he like flails and freaks out and dies.
SPEAKER_00And Dean's like, wait, no, stop.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so Sam levels the gun on her. Dean goes, wait, Sam, don't and bang, he shoots her. Sam gets two kills here.
SPEAKER_00At a boy.
SPEAKER_01So it is now Sam three, Dean Zero.
SPEAKER_00Gotta pick up the pace glass.
SPEAKER_01Kind of looking good for Sam at the moment.
SPEAKER_00He needs something.
SPEAKER_01Uh he needs a He needs something. He needs a lot of something. Anyway, they die. Um, we cut to the next day, and Sam uh and Dean and Bobby are walking across the street and they're talking about, oh, this happened, whatever the cult works, and essentially they stop and go, okay, hey, Yellow Eyes said something to me. Said, is it brings up that Yellow Eyes said, is Sam really fully Sam? And that Sam shot them cold. And Bobby was just kind of like, well, I mean, he was saving your life, Dean. And he goes, but do we need to worry about it? And Bobby thinks he goes, demons lie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure Sam's all right. And he's clearly kind of like Well, Dean says, Yeah, I'm sure. Not sure at all. That man is unsure.
SPEAKER_00And they have this other Bobby has this line that I also really like where Dean's like, you know, he's been told that the demons didn't really have to do anything but be like, hey, you should do this. Yeah. So he's like, Well, what do we do about Trotter? And Bobby goes, Humans ain't our job. Yeah. Which I wrote down. I just I like it so much. And you know, I again would like to point out what exactly has Sam fucking done?
SPEAKER_01No, I know. Get him a break. Especially because in the next scene when he's talking to Ruby walks in and as he's packing, and he's talking to her, and he's she's like, You uh off two demons, and he goes, and two people. Like he's immediately guilty about it. Like she's essentially saying it was kind of a mercy, and he goes, No, oh, I helped them. You know, he's not happy about this.
SPEAKER_00Because she's she literally will be like, she's like, demons ride bodies hard and put them up wet. Like it's not a it's it's not like it's really easy. Like we saw with Meg, like, even if she hadn't, I think, been you know, thrown off a building, it would not have gone well for her body.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, uh, she had been shot also.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like it just wasn't, you know. So in again.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, this conversation culminates in Sam leveling the cult on her. She's saying, if you don't want my help, give it to me, I'll find someone who does. And he's like, Or I could just shoot you, and she goes, then find somebody to help you with Dean. And he left lowers the gun and end episode. Yeah. He's kind of stuck in this uh uneasy partnership with Ruby. Okay, this is a pretty good episode. We miss anything.
SPEAKER_00This is a good episode. No, I think it's just a really it's another I like when Supernatural will investigate the religion they're talking about. So it's it was a good function.
SPEAKER_01Well, I and I I also agree that it's like it's better written than it is directed, but that's fine. Okay, uh, best
Best of "Sin City"
SPEAKER_01line.
SPEAKER_00It's gotta be a demon in South Beach.
SPEAKER_01Great, fantastic. Mine is in the essentially the not essentially, literally the same scene. Uh well, it won't kill demons by then, but I promise it'll kill you. Really funny.
SPEAKER_00It's good funny. It was a good fun little romp of an episode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, best kill.
SPEAKER_00Um, I said the two demons because we got to see the cult back in action.
SPEAKER_01Fascinating. Richie 360. I can't argue with that one yet. Like when he got his head spun in a close-up.
SPEAKER_00We did both go out loud.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of crazy. Yeah, no, it's crazy. I'll agree. It's so fun. That's the one.
SPEAKER_00We can advance Richie's.
SPEAKER_01Uh, we can advance Richie's to the end of the season bracket. Very excited about that. It's heating up to be a really good one.
SPEAKER_00This will be a very interesting one.
SPEAKER_01We've had good kills this season.
SPEAKER_00I'm enjoying it.
SPEAKER_01And they're only gonna get better. Woo! Okay. Next episode
"Bedtime Stories" Discussion
SPEAKER_01is season three, episode five, Bedtime Stories, written by uh Catherine Humphreys, directed by Mike Roll.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um these newbies? I don't feel like everything.
SPEAKER_01I think Catherine Humphreys is written before. I don't know if Mike Roll's directed. Anyway.
SPEAKER_00I kind of remembered this episode way more than I remembered this past.
SPEAKER_01I didn't remember anything about this episode. Everything about it was a surprise. Anyway, we open on a shot of the moon and it pans down across like a realtor sign that says Once Upon a Time.
SPEAKER_00Houses were built like this.
SPEAKER_01It's a housing development place.
SPEAKER_00Always at a housing development in supernatural.
SPEAKER_01So anyway, there's these three brothers that are walking, and they're talking about how they should have gone with, you know, cinder blocks instead of. Yeah. So it's it's the three little pigs. Uh, they hear a wolf snarling around, and then one of them walks off, he gets dragged, blood, really good blood splatters in this opening scene. Blood splatters all over the car, the other brother gets grabbed, one of them hides, blood splatter. Uh, the last brother looks around and comes, and it's the brother that was like, We should have gone with cinder blocks. You know, it's that brother. And uh something rushes him, snarling, and he screams, and we think he's killed. Um, done, yeah. Title card. Uh Sam and Dean are fighting again. This is an intense. Oh, they're there's we jump into them screaming at each other. And um, I believe we see the shot of this toad first in the road as they're whip past it, and then we cut into the car. Uh, that toad is important, apparently. Um, they're yelling because Sam wants to use the cult to summon a crossroads demon and force it to let that they think that it's just a crossroad demon that holds the contract. That's what they believe at the moment. And whether or not that is true, we don't know yet.
SPEAKER_00We don't know. But Dean continues his his anger, and Jensen really yells in this episode. Like they are yelling at each other, and he's like, It's the end of the discussion because I said so, and you're like, whoa.
SPEAKER_01He's like, You're not dad, and he's like, but I am the oldest, and I'm doing what's right.
SPEAKER_00And you're like, big intense argument. So it's this big intense argument about, you know, like he's like, You're not gonna do anything to even try to get me out of this deal because I don't want you to die.
SPEAKER_01So then he goes, Tell me about the psycho killer.
SPEAKER_00Tell me about the psychotic killer, which is so funny because again, just how me walking in, tell me about the psychotic killer. Yeah, tell me about it.
SPEAKER_01Uh he tells them that essentially this thing happened and they think it's a werewolf. That's their the lunar cycle is right, but they only have a couple days to find it. They get to the hospital, and the the third little piggy, the uh the brother that wanted to that survives, um, is in bed and they're kind of talking about he's got some claw marks, and he essentially like it just stopped. Like it just it just looked at me with this vacant stare and stopped.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh so he goes, Well, you're the sketch artist, right? You're you're here to take my own. Sam goes, well, and then he goes, Absolutely, he is. So funny. Jared's sitting there and pretending to draw. This episode is this scene is really funny. Um, but he's uh they're essentially asking leading questions, like, what were its eyes, cut eye color? Did it have long fingernails, teeth? And he's like, it was just a guy. My brothers are dead. Yeah. Do you have any idea what that would feel like? And it's really this really good little moment where Jared's looking at me, he's worst thing in the world, worst thing imaginable. Yeah. And Dean looks at him and is he, you know, they start walking off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Also, their detective plant and page, who are who are obviously Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
SPEAKER_01That's where the doctor comes up and Dean walks off to talk to him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And uh Sam, the guy's like, Well, don't I get to see it? He's like, Oh, um, sure. Like, this is just a work in progress, and he shows him a drawing that looks like a kid drew it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like a goofy little man. And he described that the guy had a Wiley Coyote tattoo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And the guy's the guy's being played, oh, it's it's really good. It's really good. It's so funny.
SPEAKER_00The concept of being like in your hospital bed and they're coming again, you're like, I guess I can't make the sketch artist cry.
SPEAKER_01So is there they they walk, they're walking outside.
SPEAKER_00Also, what's with crazy people having Looney Tunes tattoos?
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Just think about that. When was the last time you met a normal adult that had a like a Looney Tunes tattoo?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. They're out there. Don't be mean to the Looney Tunes tattoo tattoo.
SPEAKER_00If you have a Looney Tunes tattoo, comment, I guess.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I'd love that. Okay. Um walking outside, Dean's making fun of him about the drawing, and uh, they're like, okay, so it's not a werewolf.
SPEAKER_00Because there was no their hearts weren't missing. It was just parts of they were like their liver, kidneys, and intestines or something. So it's not a traditional werewolf.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, funny bit of writing here. Um uh essentially uh essentially they're walking, and Dean's like, well, I don't know what it is. And Sam's like, well, maybe it's the I got nothing. And he just gives up on it and they walk off.
SPEAKER_00I don't fucking know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, really good.
SPEAKER_00Cuts to this couple in the woods.
SPEAKER_01Cuts to this couple in the woods, hiking, we're quick onto the next kill, right? Uh they're hiking through the woods, clearly lost, they're bickering, they have no food, and they stumble upon a house in the middle of nowhere. And this old lady walks out and she's like, Oh, you know, the trail can be twisty. My house is the only one left up here.
SPEAKER_00Uh why don't why don't you, you know, and then he the the guy spots pie and she's a literal pie cooling on her windowsill, which I know was an actual thing for an actual reason, but it is funny to see.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's hilarious. So they invite him in, and she the guy's like, She's a little old lady, what's she gonna do? They go in, they're eating their pie, they're chit-chatting, and he all of a sudden doesn't look good. Yeah. And she's like, We should get going, thank you. And he stands up and he collapses and she grabs her stomach. She's should you poison us? Why? And she calmly stands up and walks over and grabs the knife.
SPEAKER_00A gigantic fucking knife. A gigantic fucking big fucking knife.
SPEAKER_01And just she she just goes, he's like, What are you doing? Please, you have to stop. It's all going to be okay. And then she hacks him to pieces with blood splattering over all of them.
SPEAKER_00And it's crazy, and the calmness is so eerie. Yeah. The poor lady's screaming. And she looks up through a window.
SPEAKER_01The the the victim lady.
SPEAKER_00The victim lady. Um, and she looks up through a window and spots a little girl. Just watching. Just watching them. A pale little girl, dark hair, red ribbon in her hair.
SPEAKER_01So they're Hansel and Gretel. I mean, that's that's the fairy tale. Um, so anyway, they go to the hospital the hospital. They go to the hospital too. Hospital, they talk to the doctor again about what happened. And then and then they're talking to the victim, and she essentially explains, she's like, Did you find the little girl? Um, what little girl? They're just like, Does it matter? She's like, I was poisoned, it must be it. And he was like, Well, every detail matters. So she explains what she looks like. Exactly. You said uh dark hair, pale skin, red ribbon. Uh, and then she just vanished. So they're like, okay, it's a ghost of some kind. They go to the cabin, and their EMF reader's going off by the window.
SPEAKER_00But only by the window.
SPEAKER_01Only by the window. So they're not anywhere else. They're looking around, and Sam goes, I kind of have a theory. He goes, You know those fairy tales? Um, and Dean makes fun of him. And he's essentially, well, no, Dean's like, well, those fairy tales ended kind of because he kind of Sam gets him to buy into it pretty quick, which is a good conceit. Is like Dean's like, oh, that's a good point. Uh he's talking about how don't the don't those fairy tales end well? Like, aren't they?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, aren't they like happy ending? No, the original brothers' grim tales are like crazy. He's like, What does D say he's like they're all about sex, murder, and cannibalism, and then Disney whitewashes them essentially.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Disney makes them uh kids things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So he's telling them that, and then they uh Dean has this wonderful line. I'll give it to you.
SPEAKER_00Crazy's what? Sam's Dean's like, it's crazy, blah blah blah. And Sam goes, crazy's what? Every day of our lives.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that I have a different line, but that line's also great. You do your name. Mine is we gotta do research now, don't we?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we gotta do research now.
SPEAKER_01Hard cut to Dean leaving a document center or a library or whatever it is. He's like, you know how many little girls have had violent deaths that look like that? Zero. You know how many have been missing? None. It's like he's like, I just wasted six hours. He's immediately angry. It's so funny.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01Uh so then they're talking about, okay, well, what fairy tale? And he's like, it's snow white or whatever. Yeah. Um, and then they stop dead their tracks.
SPEAKER_00They haven't gotten there yet.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's fine.
SPEAKER_00Um, no, but they're specifically they see the frog again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's standing in front of them. They kind of okay, this is some kind of fairy tale thing. And then Sam looks up and he sees a pumpkin and mice. And mice running across, and the essentially Cinderella.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Even though it's close to Halloween, there's something weird. So they go over.
SPEAKER_00Dean goes, dude, could you be more gay?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's funny to me. Okay, I can laugh about this. I'm bisexual. And I've diagnosed Dean Winchester as bisexual, so I will continue to say that he is bisexual.
SPEAKER_01You've diagnosed him, which is a crazy thing to say.
SPEAKER_00I know what I I know what I saw. All right, so I know what I saw.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Uh Sam and Dean break and enter into that house. I literally wrote Love and Light. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Literally, straight up. Anyways, we're breaking in.
SPEAKER_01They haven't climbed anything in a while, and I I've taken note.
SPEAKER_00Get back to it, guys. Do better.
SPEAKER_01I need some more climbing, guys. Okay. Um, they break in and this lady calls for help. They go over and they're like, my stepmom started screaming and beating me and chained me up.
SPEAKER_00You're like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And Dean looks up and sees the little girl looking around the corner. She turns and walks away. Dean enters. He's like trying to talk to her, and she ghost glitches out and leaves an apple sitting on the ground. Uh cut away, the girl, the woman they saved is fine. They're talking. Dean tosses Sam the apple. I love when the Winchesters toss each other things.
SPEAKER_00Awesome. Um, and that's when Sam White explains it's Snow White.
SPEAKER_01Like her, she apple poisoned her and put her into a coma.
SPEAKER_00Her stepmother poisons her and puts her in a coma, and then she's basically dead.
SPEAKER_01So they go back to the doctor. Why do they go back to him?
SPEAKER_00Um, because they're back at the hospital trying to ask if there's any little girls in a coma there.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's right. And in the the head nurse or the receptionist or whoever essentially explains that the doctor has a daughter that has been in a coma for a long time, and he just he's the only one that won't give up on her. She may wake up.
SPEAKER_00She specifically is like, there's no one here in comas but old guys, and of course Callie. And they're like, And who's that?
SPEAKER_01So we cut to the doctor reading Callie, um, and we don't see her yet. A big leather book of fairy tales. Yes. Classic fairy tales. Yes. He's reading her one about Red Riding Hood. About Red Riding Hood, and we see, do we cross-cut here? We're cross-cutting here. Yeah. So we're cross-cutting to this old lady putting her stuff in the um her groceries away in a column. And he grabs her and just beats on her, right? Which is really dark. It's like a crazy wily coyote guy who keeps getting possessed by this ghost to do these things.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so then uh they come in and we see Callie and she's a full adult. Yeah. Like she's a full adult, she's been in a coma since she was eight years old, as we find out. Um they talk to the doctor, he kind of explains it and says she drank bleach as a kid, and that his um his wife brought her to the hospital. They don't know how she got the bleach. Yeah, that he's like stepmom, right? And he goes, How'd you know that? And he just they kind of brush it off. Anyway, and the stepmom is now gone. She died a year ago. So Dean then compares it to the Sixth Sense, which you have not seen. No. Slight spoiler, there's a storyline in the Sixth Sense where um uh girl dies because her mom was poisoning her for sympathy for her being sick all the time, and then she died.
SPEAKER_00Munchausen's by proxy.
SPEAKER_01Exactly what they said.
SPEAKER_00And the Dean has one of my favorite Dean lines ever here. You know fairy tales, I know movies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's fantastic. It's a genuinely amazing.
SPEAKER_00Society if Dean Winchester had letterboxed.
SPEAKER_01I know. Oh, dude, don't even play.
SPEAKER_00Can we please get Dean Winchester? I need someone over just I need Jared and Jensen solo to make up what they would think, what Sam and Dean would have as letterbox. Like, I just need that for me in my news.
SPEAKER_01A boys press tour coming up. Do that.
SPEAKER_00Please.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, so uh Dean says he's like, I gotta go stop the big bad wolf. Never thought I'd say that. And he rushes off, and Sam's gonna try to figure out how to stop all this from happening.
SPEAKER_00They find out where um the they they accost the paramedics bringing in the old lady. Yeah um and the old lady has died, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they find out the address of her next of kin, which is her granddaughter.
SPEAKER_00Um and we we cut to her school and she's literally wearing a red hoodie, which I think is hysterical. She's like, Oh, yeah, I see grandma's car, and like goes up and then immediately gets in.
SPEAKER_01Well, and they they also, before this, they know too, I think it's interesting. They're like, you can't really salt and burn bones if it's an alive person in a bed.
SPEAKER_00That's correct.
SPEAKER_01Um, which is crazy.
SPEAKER_00So Sam has to as usual, Dean gets to go do the quote unquote easy thing of like, I get to go do the cut and dry, like I saved the little girl, and Sam's like, Great, I gotta fucking tell this doctor that like spirits are real.
SPEAKER_01So he tries to confront the doctor in the hallway, and it does not go well.
SPEAKER_00No, as usual.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, so he the doctor's like, No, you're done. And he goes, he goes in Callie's room and slams the door.
SPEAKER_00Um And Sam kind of has to like brace himself and go in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he braces himself because this is terrible. This is a hard conversation. He rushes in and he's like, starts explaining to him, he's like, Look, you just you need to believe me. It's gonna sound crazy. Your daughter's a spirit, she's doing this, and he kind of stops and looks at her, and you think he's gonna do make a move or something, he goes, So you've seen her too. Then we cut to Dean Crazy. We cut to Dean breaking and entering again. It's really a good episode for me. And um the little girl is there something you'd like to say about how much you want to steal things. I just like I like watching them break and enter, fight ghosts. It's fun for me. They go in, uh he goes in and he the little girl's there, and whatever.
SPEAKER_00And the the yeah, she's hiding, and he's like, It's gonna be okay. Yes, Dean's always like, it's gonna be okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then the the guy comes up and starts kicking the shit. He literally throws Dean like across the table into the like armoire.
SPEAKER_00Dean's back injuries got him crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, his hospital bill's gotta be nuts.
SPEAKER_00Nuts.
SPEAKER_01Um, so he's getting the shit kicked out of him, and Sam is essentially talking to the doctor's like, look, you have you have to let her go. She's killing people, and no one's listening to her, and your wife poisoned her. Yeah, he's like, And he doesn't believe that for a second, but he's like, you need to be the one to listen to her and make sure.
SPEAKER_00I have to acknowledge that this is happening and there's nothing else to do about this.
SPEAKER_01Um yes, and I think that's it's really, really good and really touching, and I think it's right, it's smart to have Jared in this role. Yes. Because again, I think Jared's kind of soulful in that way.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and it's again, it's mimicking this thing of you know, it's mimicking that Sam is also going to have to let go of Dean. Like it's mim, it's again this like emotional through line of the entire season of like these two are never going to give up on each other, no matter how many times they tell other people that they have to give up on their loved ones.
SPEAKER_01Um really good, really fun stuff. Uh so then the doc the the doc calls to her, Callie glitches out of watching Dean get the shit kicked out of. It's so funny. And uh goes back to the hotel and the doctor talks to her and essentially, I'm so sorry. I I you know I I was trying to do the right thing and I didn't. He essentially tells her he's gotta let her go, and he looks to his daughter in the bed and kisses her on the forehead and and turns off the thing. And she passes away very gently and very peacefully in a way that I think very beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Her spirit comes back to him and he's like, I is that true? And she's like, Yeah. Yeah, my our my stepmom did kill me. Kill me. Or essentially kill me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh Dean's about to stab this dude in the chest and win the fight, and he all of a sudden comes, he's like, Wait, wait, wait, I don't where where am I?
SPEAKER_00And he stops and he drops the That guy's life is a fucking nightmare after this. He's killed like three people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So then they're they're talking to the doctor one last time, and it's this touching thing, and essentially he's like, Look, I just I had to I couldn't hold on. I had I had to let go. It was what was best for her. You know? And he walks, or he's as he's walking up to you and goes, Hey, we'll see you around. He goes, I sure hope not. And which has got to be their whole absolutely normal response. Yeah, don't come around anymore. Which again, as you and I know, it's like they're just it's gotta be a hard existence. Just to be a bad memory for everyone you encounter.
SPEAKER_00It's really sad.
SPEAKER_01But then Dean goes, Pretty good advice. And Sam goes, What? Is that what you want? You want me just to let you go? And he's mad, and Dean can't even say anything.
SPEAKER_00We like dissolve to this like haunting shot of Dean walking away from Sam in the hospital where you're like, oh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we we dissolve to the motel room. Dean's fully asleep. He rolls over. We we we pan over, and Sam is out of bed. He's picking up his backpack and leaving. He is going to a crossroads where he is he's burying the the required uh tin of things. Naughty naughty. He's looking around the crossroads, doesn't think anyone's gonna come. We back up and we see a woman. I have a very important question for you. What uh do they possess people and then quickly change and show up there? Because they're all of the crossroads demons are wearing black dresses.
SPEAKER_00Um, you know what it begs a good question because I do think that Dean's is always the same. Is Dean's always the same?
SPEAKER_01No, Dean's has been different.
SPEAKER_00Then it's gotta just be, yeah, like it's they're just beeboping around.
SPEAKER_01Or there's just a couple Yeah, the last crossroads episode they imply that the like the crossroad demon hangs out at the crossroad for a while. Sam's is in the middle of nowhere, so this woman had to have like demon teleported, which is something they can do later, or higher up demons can do, like certain demons can do.
SPEAKER_00Which and she clearly is because she has she's one of the only other demons besides Azazel Yellow Eyes that has different eyes because she has like red irises.
SPEAKER_01All the crossroad demons have red. So it does red with black irises.
SPEAKER_00Are they always talking to the same ones?
SPEAKER_01No, they're implying that in and it's it's confusing, right? So far. And it it is it begs the question: is there one crossroad demon who holds all the or they believe hold all the contracts?
SPEAKER_00Anyway, Sam puts- Which is what Sam clearly thinks.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, that's just my dumb question of like, do they have time to change and then teleport there, or are they possessing somebody who happens to be wearing the right attire?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, chime in, guys. What do you think?
SPEAKER_01Let us know, supernatural uh investigators.
SPEAKER_00Eric Kripke, if you could just come on the pod for this real quick question.
SPEAKER_01I would love to talk to Eric Kripke. Doesn't even have to be on mic. I just want to talk to him.
SPEAKER_00Just yab with us. Come on, Eric.
SPEAKER_01Um anyway, so uh Sam pulls the cult and is essentially telling her, you should be more afraid right now.
SPEAKER_00And essentially they they there's some good banter here, but if she recognizes, she's like, that's not the original cult. And she's like, Ugh, you met Ruby.
SPEAKER_01Ruby. So Ruby's been a pain in her ass, but she's gonna get what's coming to her, right?
SPEAKER_00What do you mean by that?
SPEAKER_01So that's revealed, and then the other thing that's revealed is that Sam goes, let Dean out of the contract. She goes, Can't Sir Iron Cloud. He's like, You can break any deals. Like, she's he's like, I'll just go ahead and kill you. Then she goes, Go ahead. I don't hold the contract. Everybody has a boss.
SPEAKER_00Including me.
SPEAKER_01And she and Sam asks, Who's your boss then? She goes, I can't tell you that. You're like, duh. So Sam kind of lowers the colt and he's kind of defeated, and she kind of get tries to get off one more line, and he just instantly raises it, bang, head shot, crazy kill. Crazy kill. So good. It's so good. Yeah, her head whips back, she falls. It's a very iconic shot. Yeah, and then episode ends. Like it's particularly violent, it's particularly cold-blooded from Sam. Because this is a person. Yeah. He could have just left. Like the crossroad demons don't mess with you if you don't make the deal.
SPEAKER_00And he's just, oh, he's getting mad. He's getting mad.
SPEAKER_01End of episode. Did we miss anything? This is a pretty good one. I like the ending more than I like the episode.
SPEAKER_00I like the ending more than I like the episode. The episode's still fun. I think it's fun. I like also that she specifically says, She's like, and my boss wants Dean's soul.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he doesn't matter what you do to me or anybody, he's taking Dean's soul.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I'm trying to remember now who he is, and I think maybe I do, but I'm not entirely sure.
SPEAKER_01I cannot remember. Anyway, um, a fun
Best of "Bedtime Stories"
SPEAKER_01episode.
SPEAKER_00Best line. Um Crazy's what? The rest of our not the rest of our lives. What does he say exactly? Crazy's what? Every day of our lives?
SPEAKER_01Once again, we have a favorite line uh in the same scene. Because mine is we gotta do some research now, don't we? It's just so funny.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, Sam 4 Dean Zero.
SPEAKER_01Sam 4 Dean Zero, yes, thank you. I forgot to, we're flashing now. Sam 4 Dean Zero. Um Best Kill.
SPEAKER_00Um I don't know why I wrote this. I wrote down three little pigs, but it's the crossroad demons.
SPEAKER_01It's the crossroad demon. What about the headshot is like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
SPEAKER_00Like it's it's again when I the it's burn into my brain and seeing it. I was like, I I saw the show, like I saw her pop up, and I was like, oh, is this is this the shot I'm thinking of because her head fully goes like whips back. It's so cool. Such a good kill. It's such a good kill.
SPEAKER_01Um so yeah, two two pretty fun episodes of Supernatural.
SPEAKER_00Uh what do we have coming up, honey?
SPEAKER_01But
What to watch for next week
SPEAKER_01coming up, so you have one week from uh the release of this episode to watch the next two episodes. Those episodes are season three, episode six, Red Sky at morning. I think and season three, episode seven, fresh blood. I'm so excited for that one.
SPEAKER_00Is that maybe?
SPEAKER_01I won't. I'll I'll never tell.
SPEAKER_00I think a particular diva is going to return next episode.
SPEAKER_01Possibly. Um, okay, but between now and then, you know what you have to do. Gotta get your journal, gotta hit the road, gotta watch some TV, but remember you know what's out there. Be afraid of the dark.
