SPEAKER_03

Hello and welcome back to the show. As always, I'm your driver Spencer. Sitting Shotgun is Breck, and this week with a podcast asking the important questions. Like, will Sam and Dean be okay this time? Is this season way darker? And what is the best kill of the season? This is Be Afraid of the Dark.

SPEAKER_02

Very important questions, honey.

SPEAKER_03

Arguably the most important we've ever asked, to be frank.

SPEAKER_02

This might be our most important. Is everything gonna be okay? And the answer continues to be probably not. And the answer is actually no, now more than ever.

SPEAKER_03

No,

Season 3 Discussion

SPEAKER_03

yeah.

SPEAKER_02

More than ever, shit is dire.

SPEAKER_03

Just a bunch of sad. Um but yeah, season three.

SPEAKER_02

Merch idea. Hat just says shit is dire.

SPEAKER_03

Hat that just says bunch of sad. Um yeah, so this season has wrapped up. We are on our retrospective. Uh how are you feeling? How how are you how are you feeling?

SPEAKER_02

Um is everyone gonna get really mad at me if I thought Sam's death was sadder?

SPEAKER_03

That's really interesting. I think the thing that makes Dean's death less sad. There's two things. I think Jensen is is given the bigger moment, right? Like Jensen is given the bigger moment of catching him and like screaming. And for Jared, they play it very differently. And I I think I I think that's very smart to play it very differently. Oh yeah, because it's like he this has been building up for so long. Oh yeah. You know?

SPEAKER_02

Um it feels a lot more inevitable than Sam's obviously came completely out of nowhere.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and I I also think the other thing that makes um Sam so particularly or sorry, Dean's not quite as quote unquote sad is the cut to him in hell. It makes it like grounds it in this like uh stare into the void kind of dark feeling. Whereas Sam's he's just gone. Like there's no just uh dead. Yeah, there's no consciousness somewhere that still exists.

SPEAKER_02

Um what came back is 100% pure Sam.

SPEAKER_03

That's a pretty good impression. Thank you. If you did the like weird eye thing, you'd you'd be like right there. Like I think Sam.

SPEAKER_02

This is a vision, this is not this is an audio medium.

SPEAKER_03

Uh no, Breg, it's not. There's a video and they could watch the video.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I yeah, follow us on YouTube if you're listening on any other uh podcast medium.

SPEAKER_03

Actually, thank you. Marketing. Even if you don't watch us on YouTube, follow the page because it does help us a lot. It helps us a lot. Helps a lot. Anyway, back to this season. Uh yeah, so let's let's kind of let's stay broad and then we can get to some specifics. But we talked about this, this is where I want to start. So season one is where's dad? Season two is what does the demon want? Season three is how do we save Dean?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, agree.

SPEAKER_03

Again, I talk about this in the retrospectives a lot. So it's really good to like be able to boil your season down to one simple phrase that we hold to, and then all and then we just like mine those caverns as much as we can. We we explore it as much as we can. And I think this season does a really good job. Uh, writer's strike stuff is very, I think definitely worth talking about. How do you feel about season three's truncated season? You you think it pulls up? We talked a little bit about this, but let's like dive into it.

SPEAKER_02

I think um again, I haven't yet felt like we've had a true clunker of an episode.

SPEAKER_03

And I think even bug.

SPEAKER_02

Even bugs, and as we all remember, Bugs Hive over here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you're a Bugs Hive. I'm not you're not affiliated with me.

SPEAKER_02

You are not affiliated with me. Um, no, and I I think even the episodes that don't work as much in this, like, I don't think Bedtime Stories was either of our favorites. No. I think it's still an interesting, like, I I think this is kind of a crash course on how to make the most of your truncated season when you know you have a gigantic thing that should have taken you an actual whole season to wrap up. And I also think it ends up being working on kind of like a meta level of we this year the year in show feels way faster as it would for Dean, as he knows he's going to be dead at the end of it.

SPEAKER_03

That's really interesting. Yeah, that's that's that's true. That you feel every every time they do a check-in, you're like, what? It's been six months.

SPEAKER_02

And they're like, oh yeah, you know, Dean's dying in two months, and you're like, What it's only episode like 14. What do you mean? Like so it it obviously that wasn't probably intentional, but you it I think it's an interesting meta contextual.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and this is the season where the meta context starts to play m a much bigger role. And I think that if I remember right, that goes away for the next two seasons. The next two seasons aren't as meta.

SPEAKER_02

They got other shit.

SPEAKER_03

The exception of that one really, really meta episode swinging channels. Apparently, people don't Are we talking about the same one?

SPEAKER_02

Is it the one where they get stuck in and Sam has to do the herpes commercial?

SPEAKER_03

Okay, that one also. I'm talking about a different one. We'll talk about it off pod in case anyone's like watching for the first time with this, which I doubt.

SPEAKER_02

I gotta I gotta spoiled you for Sam being in a herpes.

SPEAKER_03

I got a comment the other day. This this um this uh this w wonderful, wonderful supernatural fan out there was showing her boyfriend the she the show for the first time, and she described it as I'm taking his supernatural virginity.

SPEAKER_02

Very funny.

SPEAKER_03

Um and she was like a whole podcast. We started last month and we're already on season six. And I was like, Whoa! Good for you guys, honestly.

SPEAKER_02

We're just Spencer and I are movie people.

SPEAKER_03

We're we're movie people, but and also we have to do this for the podcast, so just it we can't binge as much. We have to watch them in chunks and record in chunks. Anyway, um, yeah, so so uh I think that's a great observation about like the acceleration of time within it. Uh, this is the season they really commit to the side characters in a bigger way, I think. Agree. Now, Joe and Ellen are sidelined. And I guarantee that's a uh um an issue with the strike where they were like scheduling became a nightmare for everyone, so getting those two was probably pretty hard.

SPEAKER_02

And bring our divas home from war, babe. Bring our divas home from war.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Where are they? I would like to see them.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, so those two get sidelined, but we get Bella.

SPEAKER_02

We do.

SPEAKER_03

We get a really, really good episode with Henriksen, which again I hold that Henriksen probably would have been in two episodes had it not been truncated.

SPEAKER_02

And had they known what to do with him, they would have kept him this entire time.

SPEAKER_03

I I kind of totally agree. I th I think he would have been such a fun uh team freedom. Like team free will. He would have been such a good team free will member.

SPEAKER_02

I understand like they had two human villains in this season, and I think they kind of realized, oh shit, we don't really have time for human villains in these two coming seasons. So I think they kind of had to be like, oh, what are we gonna do here? And like Gordon, Gordon getting turned into a vampire, I think, is a really cool, like like and obviously the monster you become kind of narrative. Like that's very cool, but I just would have loved to have Henriksen and Bella around for a little longer.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like and again, the tr the treatment of Bella feels rushed in a way that I also think she would have been in like one more episode, probably. Because she's in six, she's she makes six episodes.

SPEAKER_02

She has a big chunk of this season, and I think her and Henriksen could have both her, Henriksen and Gordon, as we've said in the episodes that we've already you've already watched, are they could have all used one of two more episodes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, i i in one way or another, yeah. Like I again, I don't want to harp on the like truncation of the season too much, because it is a very good season of TV. That's a great season. I think a lot of people think season three is amongst the best.

SPEAKER_02

I would have to agree.

SPEAKER_03

And I can't fault you for that.

SPEAKER_02

Like it's and do you know why?

unknown

Why?

SPEAKER_02

It's because Gay Love pierced through the veil of death and saved the day.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I still am shocked that that episode is rated as lowly as it is.

SPEAKER_02

You and I must they're I'm so sorry everybody else can't have fucking fun.

SPEAKER_03

Are the Ghost Facers fans not out there? What's going on?

SPEAKER_02

Where are you?

SPEAKER_03

Seriously.

SPEAKER_02

Please comment below because I need to know if everybody else believes in the case.

SPEAKER_03

You don't know this because you haven't seen it, but I added sensor bleeps every time I quoted um Dean in it. Yeah, I added a sensor bleep. Which I thought was funny.

SPEAKER_00

Got me. Get my honey.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, so um other other thoughts. Uh way, way more Bobby and also way less Bobby.

SPEAKER_02

Way more Bobby, but again, also way less Bobby. We didn't get him for a whole episode like we did, like, well, I guess we did.

SPEAKER_03

He's in it quite a bit.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway, he's in it quite a bit, but we don't We get more about uh Ruby.

SPEAKER_03

Ruby is an addition. Yes. Who uh Diva.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, a new bombshell is sent to the villa.

SPEAKER_03

It's true.

SPEAKER_02

And who knows where she's at now?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she's just like that's that's a great like dangling thread of like I sent her far, far away. It's like, what does that mean? Because it's I didn't kill her, I sent her far, far away. Yes, right? This season does a really good job of like dangling the thread because I can imagine being in that position of season three ends, and you're like, okay, well, I know Dean has to come back. Like, I know that's a thing that has to happen because it's a television show. How the hell are they gonna do it?

SPEAKER_02

How are they gonna do that? How is Sam gonna cope? What happened to Ruby? What's happening with Lilith?

SPEAKER_03

They they really leave you, and I I appreciate very much that there's not a um there's no Sam and Bobby driving away with Dean and Dean's body in the trunk or in the backseat or whatever. There's there's none of that. They're just like they leave you on the fact that Dean is being tortured in hell screaming for help.

SPEAKER_02

Like currently. Sam is looking at his body currently.

SPEAKER_03

It is really, really effective in a way that I think like, you know, and again, we talk about this with Supernatural all the time. Supernatural, to me, and I'm I believe to you, is the epitome of this era of television. 100% Monster of the Week. And like, yes, a lot of shows did that, but I something about Supernatural feels so specific. It feels so in the Zeitgeist in a way that a lot of other shows have faltered on maintaining. Like, but I I would say Buffy the Vampire Slayer is very much in the Zeitgeist, but I think that one may even be more specific to a younger crowd. Supernatural hit a pretty wide demographic of age, I think. But like X-Files, I feel like has kind of waned a little bit. There are definitely X-File heads, and X-Files is like a deeply culturally relevant show. It's not the same as like what Supernatural created fandom as we know it.

SPEAKER_02

And clearly, Eric Kripke took lessons from working on X-Files to then make Supernatural what it is. And again, and you're completely correct. AO3, archive of our own.org, would not exist without Supernatural. Like Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It and like look, Supernatural fans are known to not be great a lot of the time. Yes. And also amazing a lot of the time. You and I have had nothing but wonderful experiences interacting with all of you. Genuinely, anyone who has followed us for these three seasons, uh, this is where I announce we're canceled. We're not canceled, but any anyone who's been following for these three seasons is genuinely amazing. This is so cool of you, and we love doing this, and you have all been so kind and nice, and we have loved interacting with you. Anyway, supernatural.

SPEAKER_02

He got emotional and now he's embarrassed.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not emotional. I'm chilling.

SPEAKER_02

But no, I think it's also it's just been really beneficial for me because as we've said many times, we both watched this when we were younger. Yeah. And now as an adult, and I'm the same age as Dean, and we're the same age as Dean, you know, for most of the show now. I'm like, oh um, this is getting a little more real than when it was like I was like a 15-year-old, like, uh-uh, yeah, they killed a monster in Dean Todd. And I'm like, ah, they killed a monster in Dean Todd, and I'm really sad.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I'm sad now. Well, it's I mean, there's that component. It is it is very fun watching this from older eyes. Another thing I really like about this season is it you can definitely feel the shift into being more willing to be gruesome. 100%. Clearly, this was a show that was profitable, or they saw the potential for profitability. Oh, yeah. And Eric Kripke and Kim Manners and the the whole creative team uh just found the ability to be more intense. And and season four and five really take that even further. Oh, yeah. There's stuff in that season that I'm like, if it's as violent as I remember, I don't know how it's on television.

SPEAKER_01

Genuinely. Like, and it's it's kind of incredible to me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And this season deepens the lore in a really cool way. It definitely makes it more biblical. Like it really feels like setting up for what the next two seasons are. And I know a lot of people don't love the biblical stuff. I really did.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I remember liking it.

SPEAKER_03

Um growing up religious, it was all like my little like, ooh, I'm watching this.

SPEAKER_02

Scandalous.

SPEAKER_03

This I'm watching this thing where they flip it on its head, and it's I found that really interesting, and I loved that.

SPEAKER_02

Um and it's kind of crazy if you think about it that they were willing to be like, yeah, here's God. He's here. Here he is. Like, and and like on a show that they originally marketed as like this Americana, like tough guy show. Yeah. Which is really interesting to then like take what is so embedded in Americana. You know what I'm trying to say here. Like I'm trying to say, like, it's just it's very interesting to me that they were so willing to play with everything we know about religious characters in a show that is like could just be like and we believe in Jesus and our guns and apple pie and hot dogs on our shoes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but it was never gonna be that.

SPEAKER_02

And it was never gonna be that. But I think it's still interesting that like it's clearly the aesthetic of the show, and then they can do this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well the what the I mean, the point is the Americana thing. It's I think it's pointing out that like that's the l maybe the lie of America's like over this Christian nation, and it's only like Christian nationalism has only become a much more prevalent thing. Yes. And the uh in the years since Supernatural came out, and they've kind of deal with that in a small way. Anyway, uh other stuff on on season three do we want to discuss? Anything else?

SPEAKER_02

Um I think this aired at the same time that True Blood started airing.

SPEAKER_03

Is that true?

SPEAKER_02

I think so.

SPEAKER_03

Never watched True Blood.

SPEAKER_02

I only watched like three seasons, but I think it's funny that like vampires were clearly having their comeback, so it makes even more and more sense now what they do with vampires in this show. Which I found out. You can't do nothing about this.

SPEAKER_03

I found out people were very angry about the vampires and the thing. Yeah, they hated it.

SPEAKER_02

They're the coolest fangs ever.

SPEAKER_03

People hate don't don't say that. That's we're we just lost half our viewership because you said that.

SPEAKER_02

Come back.

SPEAKER_03

Breck likes the vampire teeth. I don't mind them. I'm fine with them.

SPEAKER_02

I think they're cool. I think they remind me of like sharks, like how sharks have the double sets.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I have no opinion. Wow. I didn't know people were so mad about it, and be mad at her, not me.

SPEAKER_00

Damn, throw me out to draw me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you're not affiliated with me. Um anyway, yeah. So uh this season leaves me so excited for where we're going. It leaves me one so excited for another full season where we can get more Monster of the Week episodes. Oh, yeah, and we can have less of a like immediate hanging plot everywhere while also introducing some of the best characters in Supernatural. Of course not. Uh, one of them in particular. Can't wait to see you, Boo. It's gonna be so exciting. That's that sweet, sweet trench coat. Um Yeah, so I I I'm excited to move forward into the rest of the season, but

Season 3 Q&A

SPEAKER_03

for now, what we need to talk about the top five favorite episodes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You want to go first or you want me to go first?

SPEAKER_03

I should we do honorable mentions first? No, let's do honorable mentions at the end.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I'll go first. I'll go first.

SPEAKER_03

Let me open my secondary journal.

SPEAKER_02

Take it away. So my episode Um remember that if he mentions an episode that's in my list, I'm not gonna talk about it yet.

SPEAKER_03

Or you'll briefly and then just yeah. Okay, so for me, this is this is the an episode that's like ingrained in my memory, and it's it's a testament to how good this season is that it's my number five. Oh yeah. But it is fresh blood.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

It is it is Gordon's send-off episode. R.I.P. I I love Sterling K. Brown, and I love that. And it's it's funny that you go back and watch it and you're like, oh, that's a silence of the lambs reference. Yeah. It's just it's a deeply iconic episode. Um, their representation of like turning into a vampire, not being like a metamorphosis, but just like a change. I really like yeah, and and and and dealing with um Sam and Dean's kind of like inability to let the other one be in danger and having to get past it, and um dropping them when they've just they've lost the cult by this point.

SPEAKER_02

I think Bella's lost the cult. Or I think Bella's taking the cult at that point.

SPEAKER_03

No, because she sends Gordon after them. No, they have the cult because Dean uses it.

SPEAKER_02

That's right. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Uh so yeah, I I find this episode's a very action-based episode. It's a very, very cool, well-shot, well-directed adventure, and it has one of the craziest kills I've ever seen. Razor wire to the neck and decapitation with no weapon. Uh Dean uses it.

SPEAKER_02

For the kill bracket.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, look, you can convince me. We could I think you're I think you're right there with me, frankly. We'll see. We'll see. Okay, but that's that's my number five. What what what is your number five, Brad?

SPEAKER_02

My number five is drumroll, please.

SPEAKER_03

Brrrr.

SPEAKER_02

A very supernatural Christmas. I have always had a soft sword with this episode. Upon rewatch, it is not as good as I remember it being. Um, but I still think it's a really fun episode. I love any acknowledgement of the pagan origin origins of Christmas. I think it's a great fun episode. I think there's a lot of like really awesome. Like it's such a quotable episode to me. Yeah. You friggin' touch me again, I'll friggin' kill you. Yeah. Or fudge and kill you. And then like the shot of them like tied up back to back, like glaring at these people. Like, I just it's still one of my favorite episodes, and the ending is so sweet to me.

SPEAKER_03

Like, the the ending is the the best part of the episode.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like I just have a very soft spot for that episode. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I I really enjoy this. It did not make my top five.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I really enjoy this one. I agree with you that it's a little bit wonky at times, but it is the the last act of it's very iconic, you know. Oh, yeah. The the pliers in his mouth, he's like, Do you want to get that? Like, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Taking Sam's nail off is pretty gross.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I don't like it. Um, it's it's really, really quite good and it's fun. It's like meta in a way that I don't think it needed to be. Like, I don't think they needed the special Christmas special present thing at the beginning, but uh whatever. I'm into it. It's your TV show.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I really like it, but the ending is the most emotional where they're just like watching the game and have gotten each other like crappy gifts and like their first Christmas gifts to each other in like probably years. And I really I really like that. I really like it. My number four.

SPEAKER_02

Tell us your number four.

SPEAKER_03

So this is also an episode. It's ingrained in my memory. It's one of the funniest episodes of Supernatural, if not the funniest episode of Supernatural. Um, and I mean funny front to back, because like there's an episode, another episode that's on my top five that is hysterical and then not hysterical at all. Um, but this is uh bad day at BlackRock.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Not with the one I thought you were going to say.

SPEAKER_03

The lucky rabbit's foot.

SPEAKER_02

It makes you I lost my shoe.

SPEAKER_03

I lost my shoe is so funny.

SPEAKER_02

It's so good.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I lost my shoe when he's like banging around trying to put the fire out and like collapses. The trip, the trip is so funny.

SPEAKER_00

It's ridiculous.

SPEAKER_03

Also, when he like falls over and knocks over the lamp, and then Dean's just like, Sammy, okay, I'm good. Like they're just complete giving themselves to it.

SPEAKER_00

It's so funny.

SPEAKER_03

Everyone's committed to it. The introduction of Bella.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The ending is so iconic. Dean being smart and tossing the rabbit's foot and like the luck working so she catches it, and then they just have to do it. It's really, really, really good stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Steals his uh lottery tickets.

SPEAKER_03

Steals the lottery tickets and drives away.

SPEAKER_02

I it's the the creepy villain guys, like weird Jesus trailer.

SPEAKER_03

The weird Jesus trailer, and then just the the uh like them looking for Sam and Dean and they're arguing about the like onion blossom thing, onion bloom.

SPEAKER_02

And they're like, what are we talking about? And where you're like, where are we going to do it?

SPEAKER_03

Pictures of it on the website. Yes, you're like, oh okay. It's it's so funny.

SPEAKER_02

It's over the top, it's really funny.

SPEAKER_03

I like this episode a lot. It's very good to fun episode. Is it on your top five or do you want to talk about nothing else you want to say?

SPEAKER_02

That and Fresh Blood were both not online, so we don't usually have very different ones. It's kind of fun so far. It's just a fun season. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

What's your number four?

SPEAKER_02

My number four is my beautiful and beloved Ghost Facers. I I don't remember laughing this much. It's supernatural. I don't think we have laughed this hard this entire show as we did at Ghost Racers.

SPEAKER_03

Potentially. I I did find Bad Day at Blackrock.

SPEAKER_02

Bad Day at Blackrock is still hysterical, but this made me, I think I was like, there were moments where I was like cry laughing. Like this episode is just so near and dear to my heart. It's always an episode I would go back and rewatch. I think it's so fun to have the outsider perspective of Sam and Dean. I love that he's like, let's go hunt. It's like our Grand Canyon.

SPEAKER_03

Like it's so go hunt the Morton House. It's our Grand Canyon.

SPEAKER_02

Like, Dean, you have a month left. And then like, and he's like, Do you have cancer or something? Yeah, I'm gonna do my fucking job. Like, it's just it's all time right. And then, of course, like the ghost in it is really creepy, and you have like the really awesome like through the throat kill.

SPEAKER_03

And yeah, oh, the really good kill.

SPEAKER_02

It's just very it's very near and dear to my heart. Yeah. And as as we've said many a time, gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day. And I live by that.

SPEAKER_03

It really can.

SPEAKER_02

It really can.

SPEAKER_03

Believe it.

SPEAKER_02

Not a near for top four?

SPEAKER_03

Not so it very surprisingly for me did not make my top five. Fascinating. Um, revisiting it after watching so many found footage things, I just found it a little less interesting than some of the episodes. Fascinating. However, it's it's fucking awesome. It's just so funny. It's it's hysterical. It has that crazy, like, um, what are the ghost reverie ghosts?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, um, death echoes.

SPEAKER_03

Death echo where the guy gets hit by the train. Yeah. So that's so cool. The the idea. I love the idea of like hidden places and houses and having to find like all that's really cool and good. Uh introduces a bunch of silly side characters. The the fight between uh what are their names?

SPEAKER_02

Um uh uh Harry and Ed.

SPEAKER_03

Harry and Ed, where they're one of them's literally like karate chopping the other. I won that, I won that right. Yeah, his glasses are it's genuinely great. Um okay, yeah, that's that's a good one. Again, two very surprising to me, did not make my top five. All right, my three?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, please.

SPEAKER_03

My three? My three. Uh my number three is uh Jus in Bello.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

I loved this episode.

SPEAKER_02

Great episode.

SPEAKER_03

I love a, you know, we're caught and we have to work together with the cops under a siege. Uh the Punisher, the Punisher show on Netflix, season two, does an episode like this where he gets caught.

SPEAKER_02

Crazy deep pull you just.

SPEAKER_03

They get attacked. I I I like John Burnthal. Crazy Deep Pull. I'm John Burnthal too.

SPEAKER_02

John Burnthal never being on Supernatural, kind of shocking.

SPEAKER_03

I know. I did find there's a comment somebody left where apparently um Robert England did appear on Supernatural in season six, so we'll get there. Hey Robert, um, no massive celebrity guest stars this season, really. No, not that I remember. Yeah, not the ones that I remember the least. Um, but anyway, I love a siege episode. I love I love the emotion of this one and like Ruby showing up and like nobody's killing any virgins. Yeah, nobody's killing any virgins and and the sadness at the end where like they fought this for nothing. And uh just really good, good supernatural shit and and and uh good character dynamics between everybody. We get a lot of fun with Hendrickson, who could be a very boring character, but I think ends up not being. Um yeah, I love this one. This one's very good. Not not in your top five?

SPEAKER_02

It is in my top five. Uh-huh. We'll get there.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

My number three, if you're ready to move on.

SPEAKER_03

I'm absolutely ready to move on.

SPEAKER_02

Is No Rest for the Wicked.

SPEAKER_03

Ah, yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_02

I think, again, talking about sieges, they siege an entire neighborhood town of demons. Like, it's just so cra I mean, how could I not talk about Holy Water Sprinkler?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just incredible. Gotta bring it up. As I said way back in season one, I just love that they keep upping the stakes of how big we can get with holy water. So like I I hope one day that they make like, you know, those like things, the rain balloons where they send it up and it makes rain, but they just do that with holy water. They never will, but I can hope that for us.

SPEAKER_03

You can hope it.

SPEAKER_02

Um and I again, it's it's Dean's death episode.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Jensen does crazy death acting in this. Not crazy, but like it's he's really good at it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I think Jared is incredible in this episode. I think Katie Cassidy is incredible in this episode. I think that little girl who has to pretend to be an evil homicidal demon was having the time of her life on set that day. I was about to bring up Jim Beaver.

SPEAKER_03

Jim.

SPEAKER_02

Bob Jimbo. Yeah, no, I just I love this episode.

SPEAKER_03

It's really good.

SPEAKER_02

Is this gonna appear in your top five?

SPEAKER_03

It probably will. Oh, fascinating. All right, we're on to my number two.

SPEAKER_02

Number two, please.

SPEAKER_03

Mystery spot.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_03

Mystery Spot hits at number two. Oh, yeah. Uh, maybe the most iconic episode of Supernatural Ever. Perhaps. Potentially. I'm not I'm not a hundred percent ready to make that call.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think anyone could be mad at you for saying that.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think anyone could be mad at me. Comment the more iconic episodes. Um, but this one is so funny, and then again, it gear shifts into being so not funny anymore. Uh where Sam just turns into the Terminator. Um, but yeah, the the repetition of kills, you know, these tacos taste funny to you. Slipping in the shower. Yeah, like the the trickster getting um getting tripped up because he wanted different syrup for a day. Yeah, and he's like uh the the kill where he's like he's he's you know uh tearing up the mystery spot. And it's just it's so good, it's so iconic, it's so emotional.

SPEAKER_00

He's having it. He's okay.

SPEAKER_03

He's having it. Everyone's okay, nobody's gonna get hurt.

SPEAKER_02

Sam?

SPEAKER_03

Sam? Sam? It's so good. I love this episode. It's it's paced really well. And I just it it's the most iconic supernatural episode thus far.

SPEAKER_04

Argue with the wall, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, argue with the wall, yeah. Uh, but that's my number, my number two. It's amazing that it's not my number one, but um it may appear. It may appear on your list. Okay, what's your number two?

SPEAKER_02

Juice and bellow.

SPEAKER_03

Aha.

SPEAKER_02

I think this is such a this is a sleeper iconic episode for me. Because the moment I realized it was happening, I was like, oh my god, it's the police siege episode.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like, so fun. I think it's so fun when Sam and Dean have to work their way out of a corner like this. I think Holy Water Toilet, again, you guys know I'm a sucker for the strange uses of Holy Water. I love Holy Water toilet, like they're making freaking toilet wine. And I I shot the sheriff, but you didn't shoot the deputy.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, really good.

SPEAKER_02

It's I Henrickson being possessed, and obviously they had to know that that's the only way this guy was ever going to believe anything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And again, I just gone too soon, Henriksen.

SPEAKER_03

Henrickson.

SPEAKER_02

He could have been like our guy on the inside. He would have been so cool. I love that him and Dean have their like we're not so different, you and I. You have your law practice and me. I got all these fucking markers. Yeah. I guess we both have responsibilities when you look at it that way.

SPEAKER_03

Uh and just the the emotion of that scene in particular of like, oh, it's not a reason not to fight. It's like for me personally, I think the world's gonna end bloody, but I'm gonna go down swinging, you know. I love that stuff. It's so good.

SPEAKER_02

The and I forget the name of her of her her name right now, but the sweet secretary nobody's killing any virgins. Nobody's killing any virgins. Um but she's so like well written for a character that's appearing in one episode. Like, I think she's so great. And again, I think it's so fun that Katie Cassidy shows up and is willing to be that Ruby is willing to show up and kill herself so that this all goes away.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Which it I think speaks volumes to how much she believes in Sam and goes a long way for making us believe in Sam and what he could be capable of as an audience, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So what's your number one, huh?

SPEAKER_03

My number one?

SPEAKER_02

Or do we want to do honorable mentions before we say number one?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, uh yeah, let's do honorable mentions. Okay, what's yours? Um so uh the Magnificent Seven, I think's a really good episode, the opening of the season. Uh a very supernatural Christmas is definitely worth pointing out. Um, and then I think that's it for my like non-top five. Ghost facers, I should also note we talked about already.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, please.

SPEAKER_03

Good ghost facers being being shocked, uh shock shockingly uh omitted from the top five for me is uh a big surprise. Wasn't ready to do that.

SPEAKER_02

Huge one. Yeah. Um my honorable mentions were fresh blood and red sky at morning.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love the ghost ship. I think the drowning, the drowning in your own water and your lungs is really cool.

SPEAKER_03

Ghostwater and supernatural. Always a good time.

SPEAKER_02

After all, this is over. We should really have angry sex. He's like, don't objectify me.

SPEAKER_03

And he's all happy about it, yeah. And then the old lady being in love with Sam. Yeah. Which like again, aren't we all?

SPEAKER_02

Um Okay, what's your number one, hon?

SPEAKER_03

All right. No rest for the wicked. My number one episode. I mean, the one a dead or alive scene, and and to talk about iconic the that is iconic, the ending is iconic, Bobby getting out and family don't end with blood, boy. I know that's one of the most iconic things ever. Yeah. Um, deep mantra of mine. You know, it's uh a chosen family is such an important thing. You know, we all we talk about a lot in this um in this time and people our age is like we no longer have third places, and it's like, yeah, because you no longer have community. Yeah, you know, it's like if if you're not religious, it's so hard to find a community of people you get along with and want to do things with, um, even though we're in this like technological age where it should be the easiest thing in the world to do.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Anyway, I I think but that one a dead or alive scene I think about all the time, and Jensen's performance in it is so good. The action's really fun. The the taking people out with the knife left and right is really fun. Um, the the sprinklers. The sprinklers. Freaking sprinklers. Um, yeah, you know, and again, I agree with you. Katie, it's probably the best Katie Cassidy's ever been in anything. Probably.

SPEAKER_02

Um especially when she gets to be um Ruby or Lila, thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Sick em boy.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah, and then getting like blast uh Sam awakening some kind of power that we'll explore later, but then that not being the big moment of the scene.

SPEAKER_02

Who's to say what that's all about?

SPEAKER_03

Who's to say what that's all about? I'm so excited to continue on that. Um on Sam's um what is it? What how do you always describe it?

SPEAKER_02

His Hot Girl Summer.

SPEAKER_03

His Hot Girl Summer, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, that's my that's my number one. I I I love that episode and it very much held up for me.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. 100%. My number one? Mystery spot.

SPEAKER_03

Of course it is.

SPEAKER_02

That's just me and the bestie. Yeah. That's me and the bestie right there. Like, I just think, and it's everything you've already said and more of it's so funny and ridiculous for so long, and it lulls you into this like complacency. And then Richard Spade Jr. is like, by the way, your brother is going to die. Yeah, I'm actually kind of trying to help you.

SPEAKER_03

I know. It's so shocking and so horrible.

SPEAKER_02

It's like, oh, I'm training you for the fact that your brother will be dead soon.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just so you know. Just so you know. Like it's Richard Spade Jr. just so great every single time he shows up. I hope he shows up again. Who's to say?

SPEAKER_03

Um But listen to our podcast, not his.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Or both.

SPEAKER_03

There's enough room in your life for multiple.

SPEAKER_02

I would hope we could get him on here. It'd be kind of fun.

SPEAKER_03

That'd be fun. Um subscribe to us so we can do stuff like that.

SPEAKER_02

Please. Um, no, I just think it's a great episode. Yeah. And I still don't know if it's a piano or a desk that falls on Dean.

SPEAKER_03

I'm fairly certain it's a desk.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Like I'm 80% certain.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I believe you.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe 85%.

SPEAKER_02

I believe you.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

It's just mostly because it's it's so like loony tunes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So loony tunes.

SPEAKER_03

Same as him getting hit by the car is also loony tunes.

SPEAKER_02

I can't believe there's no like anvil that falls on Dean in that episode.

SPEAKER_03

They already have him slip in the shower and they're like, we can't go too far.

SPEAKER_02

Everything's gonna be okay. Everybody's okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so those are our top five favorite episodes. Please let us know yours. We love that. It's always super fun to hear your five favorite episodes.

SPEAKER_02

It's very fun. Um which one did we overlook?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's not really a wrong answer to this, so this is just a kind of a banger season top to bottom.

SPEAKER_02

No, oh, one of my other audible mentions was the kids are all right.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, very emotional. Very fun episode. Yeah, I care much more about the emotional stuff going on in that one than I do about the monster.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Um the monster is creepy.

SPEAKER_03

Even though the monster is creepy, and there's kids involved.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The dark thing with the card.

SPEAKER_02

The gold thing in the card. It's so crazy. This season is crazy.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

There is at least one kill in episode where I was like, are they allowed to do that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And you gotta I love when that happens.

SPEAKER_03

And then you know what they did?

SPEAKER_02

And you know they did. They did that. They did that.

SPEAKER_03

All right, it's time for the best kill of the season bracket. Oh, yeah. We have seeded these out pretty randomly. Uh, did my best to make it random. Uh there's less kills this time, so let's go a little faster. But I'm gonna go ahead and read them off for you. Yes. Um, in the seated order, not the episode order. Uh, so it's Isaac Drinks Draeno from The Magnificent Seven, Lungs Fill with Water from what is that episode called?

SPEAKER_02

Uh, Red Sky at Morning.

SPEAKER_03

Red Sky at Morning. I'm bad at this in my job. Uh Slip on a Bottle, stab in Mouth. That is from Um Bad Day at BlackRock. Uh Sam blasts Crossroads Demon.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. What is the I believe that's that's that is Bedtime Stories.

SPEAKER_03

No, that's Sin City.

SPEAKER_02

Is that Sin City?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because remember there's the whole conversation and you blast them because Sam gets like three or two, yeah, three kills that episode.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I'm fairly certain that's right. Um Richie's nope, sorry, you're right. It is from um Bedtime Stories, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, because the next one is ri Richie 360 headspin, which is crazy, is from Sin City. Versus Jeremy Death by Dream Bat from uh Dream a Little Dream of Me. Uh Gordon's Death from Fresh Blood versus Table Saw to the Back from Kids Are All Right. Um, from The Kids Are All Right. Uh uh Hellhound gets Dean from No Rest for the Wicked versus uh Snatched Up the Chimney from a very supernatural Christmas, Stam set uh stabs uh The Crocotta Crocotta, thank you. Um versus teeth falling out from uh thank you. I still can't say it. Um uh Corbett gets stabbed from Ghost Facers versus Dean crushed by table from Mystery Spot. Uh Henrickson shoots the sheriff from uh Juice and Bellow versus Doc Cuts Out Heart from Um what is the episode?

SPEAKER_02

From uh Time is on my side.

SPEAKER_03

Time is on my side, thank you. All right, so we're just gonna start from the beginning. So Isaac drinks Draeno versus lungs fill with water. This one is kind of a this is a hard one right out the gate. Because I love both of these kills.

SPEAKER_02

Because the Draeno kill is shocking.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But the lungs kill is really cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like just the tu the very gentle touch to like all the water, but like they can't do that sound effect.

SPEAKER_02

My gut. I kind of think it's Draeno. You think it's Draeno? Draeno is really violent.

SPEAKER_03

Draeno is really violent. And to start the season off with like a character that's not just a nobody getting offed. I mean, we've meet him for the first time that episode, but he's like a history with these things. Yeah, he's like I am gonna agree with you. It is Isaac Dreams Draeno, drinks Draeno is gonna advance. So um lungs filled with water is out. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, lungs filled with water. You were so young. So sorry. You were so young.

SPEAKER_03

Um that got it. Okay. So slips on a bottle, stabbed in the mouth, versus Sam blasts crossroads demon.

SPEAKER_02

Look, Sam blasting the crossroad demon is cool.

SPEAKER_03

I think this is way harder than you're about to make it sound. Continue.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, I did not know. Okay, look, I think it's a really great iconic shot of him shooting her in the head. However, I think the sheer final destination of it all, and how I'm constantly worried that this is going to happen to me.

SPEAKER_03

You do fall a lot.

SPEAKER_02

Makes slipping on a bottle, getting stabbed through the head with the meat tenderizer.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. I'll give it to you. However, it's not as easy. The head whipping back and the violence of it.

SPEAKER_00

It's very cool.

SPEAKER_03

The character shit of it. Yes. Intense stuff. It is. Alright, alright, alright, alright. I can get rid of Sam Blast. So uh slips, you're moving on. All right. Richie 360 headspin versus Jeremy Death by Dream Bat. Not even a discussion to be had.

SPEAKER_02

It's Rich.

SPEAKER_03

It's Richie.

SPEAKER_02

I just go, it's Jeremy getting beat to death by his father in a dream with a bat.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's not. It's not that one.

SPEAKER_02

It's Richie.

SPEAKER_03

It's Richie. The Richie one made both of our jaw drops. We were like, whoa.

SPEAKER_02

Again, we're naming the craziest kills right now. And this this was like maybe two of them last season. This is like And shout out to our

Top 5 Episodes

SPEAKER_02

girl setting herself on fire in the gas station.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, which is still one of the craziest kills in the show. Come on now. Alright, okay. Gordon's death versus table saw to the back. Easy. Easy. Gordon. Table sod of the back is really good. Gordon is all-timer iconic, uh, supernatural moment. It's so funny.

SPEAKER_00

That Spencer remembered so well, and I was like, oh wow. Yeah, it's the look on Jared's face, is he's just like and I I guess I just blocked that one out.

SPEAKER_03

So good. I love that kill. And then the spine sticking out, it's awesome. It's crazy. Okay, so it is Hellhound gets deaned versus snatched up the chimney.

SPEAKER_01

Very easy.

SPEAKER_03

Snatched up the chimney, got it. Um it's Hellhound gets deaned. It's Hellhound gets deaned. It's so violent. It's like him getting ripped off the table and like just shredded.

SPEAKER_02

And then again, they use the same kind of like visual motif of the pant legs like shredding always or clothes shredding that I always love. And it's just great.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Sam stabs the crocotta versus teeth falling out.

SPEAKER_02

This one's kind of hard.

SPEAKER_03

This is a hard one too. I have a hard time with teeth things, but like the stab back on the peg with the blood splatter is awesome. I love it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, let's litigate. Let's litigate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I I like but they're both beautiful girls. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

Let's think about it. Like the teeth falling out.

SPEAKER_03

The teeth falling out is grosser. You see it happen, but you don't really see like it end.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. You see him like walk in on her at the end dead. But Sam stabbing the Crocotta I think has to win.

SPEAKER_03

And they never explain to you how, why that kills it, but you know. Like I think there's like a good bit of storytelling within that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's visual. I mean, he clearly he's holding a knife to the neck. It's clearly like a brainstem thing.

SPEAKER_03

Uh, we're gonna go with crocotta.

SPEAKER_02

I agree. T falling out, you'll always be special.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Okay. Corbett gets stabbed versus Dean crushed by table.

SPEAKER_02

This is like I it shouldn't be hard, but it is because I think it's so funny when Dean gets flattened by the table.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, when Dean gets flattened by the table is really good.

SPEAKER_02

But Corbett gets fully stabbed through the neck close up.

SPEAKER_03

And I might, yes. Okay, so it's it's crazy, it's the weird shot, it's so dark. Um, I might also add that Dean doesn't actually die.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

So I feel like we should just go ahead and eliminate that one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, let's give it to Corbett.

SPEAKER_03

Like, it's not even that he doesn't die, right? Because we counted Dean when he actually dies by the hellhound, but there's like a point, there's a period of time, not just like don't wake up.

SPEAKER_02

We had to, you know, we have no death in that episode. Yes. We had to nominate a kill from that episode.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Uh so it is uh Corbett advancing. Okay. Hendrickson shoots the sheriff versus Doc cuts out a heart.

SPEAKER_02

I think this is Doc cuts out a heart. Hendrickson is super, it's a super out of nowhere moment. You're not expecting him to be the possessed one. It's crazy in context.

SPEAKER_03

But they show a heart getting cut out of a chest. Alright, so that is our first round. I'm flashing on the board right now so you can see where we stand. Tell us if we're right or if we're wrong, or if we're just so incredibly right about everything we've ever done. That's my favorite one to hear, actually. Um I feel. Alright, next up is Isaac drinks Draeno versus uh slips on a bottle and stabbed in the mouth.

SPEAKER_02

Hmm.

SPEAKER_03

I am gonna honestly give to slips on a bottle. It's so funny. Yeah, it introduces the idea of how the deaths work in the episode. Not gonna allow that. Um and it is very final destination, which as we've said many times, we really like.

SPEAKER_01

I love you.

SPEAKER_03

Uh okay, so it is 360 headspin versus Gordon. Not even a challenge for me. It's Gordon. Again, it's so iconic.

SPEAKER_02

It's so cool.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I love the Gordon kill so much.

SPEAKER_02

You're getting a preview in about five minutes of what will be occurring here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Not to break the suspense. Okay, Hellhound versus Crocotta. Hellhound.

SPEAKER_02

It's Hellhound.

SPEAKER_03

It's Hellhound. The Crocotta one is cool, but the Hellhound one uh like breaks your heart.

SPEAKER_02

It's the level of icism.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but a huge factor in how good a kill is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

If you don't watch a lot of slasher movies, start because you'll know what we mean after a while.

SPEAKER_00

100%.

SPEAKER_03

Um, okay, so it is Corbett getting stabbed versus the doc ripping the heart out.

SPEAKER_02

It's kind of hard.

SPEAKER_03

I am leaning Corbett.

SPEAKER_02

I'm leaning Corbett too.

SPEAKER_03

Because that it's just crazy that that was on TV.

SPEAKER_02

And also, they show it again multiple times.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And and um the heart is in like a close-up. It's like it's really gross and grotesque, but also it's not the same.

SPEAKER_02

It's not the same as again. You see the thing come out through Corbett's neck. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I'm going Corbett.

SPEAKER_02

I believe in you, Corbett.

SPEAKER_03

We love you, Corbett. Say it one more time.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god, what did they call my god, what did they call him? The power of what the power of gay love can pierce the veil of death and save the day.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

I was trying to remember what they called him. The man of the what did they call him Mr. Impossible?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, my God, what happened. Tell us in the comments what the title card for uh Corbett is in his immemorium section. Um, all right, okay, okay. Um flashing on the screen so you can see our final four. We're already at the final four. This is what happens when you have a short season. It is uh short season with a lot of good kills, but like several that are like, whoa, yeah, this is awesome. Okay, so it is uh slips and gets stabbed in the mouth versus Gordon. I'm gonna let you talk for a little while.

SPEAKER_02

Look, it's Gordon, it's Gordon. You see his spine.

SPEAKER_03

You see his spine.

SPEAKER_02

You see his spine. I didn't think you could do that on the CW.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, look, I love a Looney Tunes ass death, but there's nothing quite like cutting off a vampire's head with razor wire. Yeah. And it being, you know, Sterling K. Brown in his all of his glory and Jared acting all of his acting his ass off like after a whole Silence of the Lambs shout-out sequence.

SPEAKER_02

So good. It's just great.

SPEAKER_03

We love it. Okay, so next up is Hellhound vs. Corbett. This is legitimately harder than you would think it would be. It is. You and I are big fans of that Corbett death.

SPEAKER_02

I just think it's so cool, but again, it this is how we did it with with you know Sam's and Mary's death. Dean's is not just kind of gory and horrific. Like you're seeing him, you're seeing blood spurt out.

SPEAKER_03

It's true.

SPEAKER_02

But it's also a deeply emotional deal.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, there's this one part of it where it's like it's on Sam, but like Dean's in the bottom of the frame, and like it's like I think it's like right when he's getting dragged off the table, and like you see blood like come up over Sam.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Not splatter on Sam, shooting up an obscure. It's it and it's like just a little bit, but that makes it almost worse.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like it's it's crazy.

SPEAKER_03

And the Corbett one is great, but you're right, it's not as emotional.

SPEAKER_02

Um it gets shown more, but then the inverse of this is again, Dean's is so it's not just emotional, it's violent.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And Corbett's is just violent.

SPEAKER_03

And you would think like the invisible one would just be like these slashes, but no, it's like gouges and his chest is getting ripped up.

SPEAKER_02

His clothes are getting ripped up, he's screaming, there's blood coming out of his mouth. It's like that one scene in Jaws.

SPEAKER_03

Like just like that one scene in Jaws.

SPEAKER_02

Just like that one scene in Jaws.

SPEAKER_03

So it's gotta be like it does.

SPEAKER_02

It's gotta be Corbett. Yeah. It got me there. It's gotta be the Hellhound. It's gotta be Hellhound.

SPEAKER_03

Um, okay, so we're in our final two.

SPEAKER_02

Streets, this is difficult.

SPEAKER_03

Uh Gordon versus the Hellhound.

SPEAKER_02

This is hard.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna let you talk then.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, oh, oh, oh, so welcome back to Spencer Decides What the Ending of the Bracket is before we even get here. Welcome back, everybody.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry. I really like this video.

SPEAKER_02

I can't even get you to even think about Dean winning.

SPEAKER_03

No, I look there there is an argument that Dean should win it. The Dean one is more emotional. It's probably more iconic. Yes. But like tell me if if in a Friday the 13th movie, if Jason killed somebody this way, or if somebody killed Jason this way, it wouldn't be the best kill in the fucking movie.

SPEAKER_02

This is correct.

SPEAKER_03

Like, tell me you don't want to see Ghostface have this happen to him.

SPEAKER_02

And yet I say, and so last season we came down to kind of a similar thing of we had Lady setting herself on fire in the gas station versus Sam.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And gun to my head, I couldn't tell you what won last season.

SPEAKER_03

I could tell you right now. Can you tell me right now what did we say Sam? Lady. Okay. Lady on fire. Because we we were just we were both just like that stunt's crazy. Damn. The the like surprise is crazy.

SPEAKER_02

I killed my own argument.

SPEAKER_03

You did. Damn.

SPEAKER_02

Damn.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, I are you not feeling the Gordon one at all?

SPEAKER_02

No, I'm feeling the Gordon one. I just like to have I just we've gotta have some drama here.

SPEAKER_03

I know, but at the same time, that Gordon Kill is fucking awesome.

SPEAKER_02

We see his spine.

SPEAKER_03

I don't even know if that's as icon tell me legitimately, tell me, is the Gordon Kill as iconic as I'm making it out to be? Is it as remembered? Or is it just me that found that like deeply crazy that I saw that?

SPEAKER_02

And for the 200th time, we saw his spine. I didn't know we could do that.

SPEAKER_03

We saw his spine.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't know that was a possibility we had.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and also like Sterling Kate Brown still gets asked at conventions and stuff about supernatural. Yes. A show he had like a four or five episode stint on over multiple seasons.

SPEAKER_02

I'm so sorry, King. You've been nominated for an Oscar, and I'll always be like, and he was gold. He was on Supernatural.

SPEAKER_03

Huge true. And it is, it is true. It's he was there. It's true. Um, okay. So how how how do we want to go about this?

SPEAKER_02

Because like I'm willing to roll over and let it be Gordon.

SPEAKER_03

I don't say roll over.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not rolling over. I just like to give us, you know, we have to consider the options here.

SPEAKER_03

You are completely right, and again, I think the Hellhound one, even if this was seated differently, would be the number two for me.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

The Gordon one is just really fucking crazy. And Dean's like shock of like, you killed Gordon without a weapon.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's like I don't know, man. There's something about it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm willing. I'm willing.

SPEAKER_03

All right, it's Gordon. Tell us if we're wrong. Please don't tell us if we're wrong. Wrong. I don't want to be wrong. I want to be right.

SPEAKER_02

You can tell us if we're wrong, I'll argue.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. For the hellhound shit.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm like, and you're right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and you're right, internet. Roast his ass. Um very friendly. Okay, so that's been our bracket. Uh, we love doing those. Um, I would love to know your favorite kills if if there are other ones we didn't nominate for best kill of the episode that that you particularly love.

SPEAKER_02

Man, um can you imagine when we've done all 15 seasons and we get to do the mega bracket? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

If the network doesn't cancel us, the network is never canceling. Once again, tell your friends to subscribe to the YouTube. Yeah, we like we want this to grow and we want it to be bigger and we love doing it. Uh it's it's just a big time commitment for us. So we want we want it to continue to grow and we want to be able to make it better and better and better. So tell your friends about it, get them to watch it. We have three full seasons for them to get through.

SPEAKER_02

Um real easy if you're a binger. You get to listen to an episode, you get to watch your episodes and listen to an episode, watch your episodes, listen to an episode.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you don't even gotta wait a week like the rest of the losers have been listening to this the whole time. Um however, you people who have been here since the beginning, you rule.

SPEAKER_04

We love you.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, so any other thoughts on season three of Supernatural? Any other things we missed, didn't cover? Just how how I guess I wait, let me ask this. Yeah. How does it rank between the other seasons for you?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's tough.

SPEAKER_03

I to be honest, I don't know if I have a ranking between season one and two. I think this has been my least favorite season thus far. Agreed. Even though the highs are so high.

SPEAKER_02

The highs are so high, and why and the lows are not that low either. Why should they fight? They can hold hands.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Yeah, very true.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I just love all of them. These three seasons specifically, the the entire dynamic of this show changes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like very soon.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And these three seasons will always have a soft spot in my heart for being the three like brother seasons where it's just them and the car and the road.

SPEAKER_03

Very good way to put it.

SPEAKER_02

Um and as much as I love our divas to come, these will just always, these three will always have, you know, when I go back and like even when I was like not like Supernatural's cringe or whatever, like back, like I would still re-watch these first three seasons and be like, huh, what a good time.

SPEAKER_03

I tell everyone, it's like, look, if you if you don't want to commit to 15 seasons, yeah, watch either watch five or watch three if you're a crazy masochist, is just fine, like allowing that to be the end of it. Um or watch the first five and turn it off like before the second to last shot, turn it off and just let that be the end of the show. Literally. Um But I love the show. I love I love Supernatural. It just makes me happy. So excited for season four.

SPEAKER_02

So excited for season four. Mega, mega hype for season four.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's there's um there's just so much good good stuff coming, and I can't wait.

SPEAKER_02

Lazarus rising, babe. Even the recap of that episode is burned in my brain.

SPEAKER_03

I know, right? Um, so yeah, that is this has been season three of Be Afraid of the Dark. It is the end of the season. Um, no episode next week, but the week after, uh, we will do uh our usual special episodes. Uh not sure what we're gonna do for those two yet. Probably be another round of Would Sam and Dean Survive if people liked that. It'll probably be another trivia one.

SPEAKER_02

Might be a trivia one, could be even we watched, you know, another movie of the two. Yeah, depends. Depends. We'll see. We'll see, we'll see.

SPEAKER_03

We'll see. So uh exciting, exciting stuff. Yeah um I love this show. I love uh all of you who've been listening. Yes. I love doing it. It's super fun to watch something and then sit down and talk about it for a prolonged period of time.

SPEAKER_02

We're we're certified yappers.

SPEAKER_03

We're yap for yap.

SPEAKER_02

That's we're yap for yap is very special.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, other than that, uh I feel like there's stuff we should be talking about in season three. We're kind of scattered through this, but um just a great season of television. Yeah, it's a great season of television that really does feel pretty cohesive. Again, it's all we said this a million times. It's a miracle that the season is good and cohesive at all with the strike and with the rushed production schedule. Um I'm really excited to get back to some Joe and Ellen. We have the scariest, I believe it's in season four, but the scariest episode of the whole show to me is in season four, and I'm curious if it will hold up.

SPEAKER_02

And again, gun to my head, could I could only tell you the premiere and the finale, and I kind of don't remember a lot of the other episodes.

SPEAKER_03

I don't remember the finale of season four.

SPEAKER_02

I do.

SPEAKER_03

I'm oh wait, yes, I do. Of course I do. Yes, you do. Um but there's an there's an episode that takes place in a house uh and there's a cornfield involved.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, send it to me, send it to me.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sending it to you. Still just Jim Beaver. Um anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Naked picks Jim Beaver.

SPEAKER_03

So this has been season three of Be Afraid of the Dark. Very proud of it, very excited to continue. Um so yeah, between now and the release of the special episode, you know what you have to do. Gotta get the road, gotta get your journal. You don't have any TV to watch, but remember, you know it's out there. Be afraid of the dark.
