Welcome to the Christian Readers Podcast, where you can escape into fiction without sacrificing your values. I'm your host, Colleen Mitchell, author of The Chronicles of Talam. Today I'm just going to share what I'm currently reading and what's coming up on my TBR. I'm trying to prioritize books that I would like to review for the podcast. As of writing this episode, I am about 70% through reading Imagine the God of Heaven by John Burke. It's a nonfiction follow-up to his first book, also nonfiction, titled Imagine Heaven, which documents near-death experiences. This next list is of books that I have actually started reading but left off to prioritize one at a time. Empty Mansions by Bill Dudman, a book about the daughter of one of Montana's Copper Kings from the early 1900s. She inherited quite a lot of money, including a bunch of mansions that ended up sitting empty. I have been very, very slowly chipping away at this book for the last, oh man, over a year at this point. The next one is The Trope Thesaurus for Fantasy and Science Fiction by Jennifer Hilt. This is my current writing craft book, but I'm also chipping away as I feel like it. Next is Sorry Humans, Especially Greg, by Farrelly Pozo, a sci-fi book I found at Rellmakers last year. And then there's To Bind Fire by D.E. Carlson. I read through the first chapter, but I haven't had the time to sit down with it because I have the paperback and I tend to read faster on Kindle. And then the last one that I am current technically currently reading is Two in the Bush by Judith Hale Everett. This is the first in her Regency Romance book series. I previously read the prequel novella, which did a pretty good job of wetting my appetite for more books written in the style of Jane Austen. Two in the Bush is my next book to finish after Imagine the God of Heaven, and I'm hoping I will be done in time to post a review for it next week. My planned reading order after Two in the Bush is Sorry Humans, then the first two books in Caitlin Pfeiffer's Dystopian Providence Chronicles series, titled City of End and City of Truth. Then I'll read The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip, recommended by listener LaCritia, and then I want to read D.E. Carlson's trilogy from start to finish. After that, I'm planning to crack open the trophies that I got from backing Karen Norton's Kickstarter, a fantasy duology that is quite chunky, and her new sci-fi novel. So my TBR grows faster than my ability to read, but I think that's true for just about everybody. I definitely have a lot more novels on my TBR for this year than in years past, so that's pretty cool. And as if I need to add more to that DBR, if you are a Christian with a book recommendation, there is a link in the description to text me, and I would love to hear it. Thanks for listening to today's episode. If this resonated with you, please share it with your friends so they can find something new to read. God bless, and until next time, goodbye.
