Talkin' Misschif
We’re talkin’ all things country… honky-tonk jams, two-step dirt clouds, a little marketing mayhem, mental health grit, small biz hustle, and the gloriously effed-up truth in between.
Professional? Nah, we ride rougher than that.
But we’ll sling you the country music worth knowin’, the events worth boot-scootin’ to, the dance floor stories that never make the flyer, and whatever the wind blows our way. Outlaw heart, southern soul… welcome to the ride 🤠

Whether you're chasing a dream, rebuilding one, or just trying to make it through the week, you've got a seat at this table. I'm Harley, and this is Talkin Mischief. What up, everybody? We're back with another episode of Talkin' Mischief. And today we're with Becca Bowen. Hello, hello. Tell them what we've been doing all day. Oh my goodness. This girl's got me running around every which way of Nashville. I'm just kidding. No, I do. It's been rough. Like, it's been rough. We were running down Broadway, back and forth to Music City Center. Yeah, but it's been a lot of fun. It's yeah. So, fun fact, today's actually my one year as a CMA member, so it's like a full circle moment. So, thank you for that. I really appreciate it. I made the whole day without crying. So that's I'm so glad you came. I really am. It's been really fun. I'm glad I got to. Like it's I don't know what I was expecting for this to be my first CMA, but CMA fest, but I'm like, we're here, we're vibing. It's just a lot of media, a lot of interviews. Yeah. That that's an understatement. And next year we're gonna manifest and we're gonna have talking mischief here. We're just gonna manifest it. She's gonna have her own place in the media room up there doing an interview. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. So whoever watches this, hopefully, you know, like we're just we're talking about it now. So tell us a little about yourself. Well, uh, my hometown, I grew up in West Columbia, South Carolina. I started singing when I was five years old in church. Um uh and you know, I'll just say then God just opened up the doors for me and I knew when I just as a child, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. Like God gave me this gift and I wanted to share it. I really did. And uh I've been so fortunate and so blessed that I get to do what I love. So and I'm glad you're here for the ride. I'm glad. So fun fact, Becca and I met last in December at a CMA like Christmas party, which and then here we are, a CMA fest. So it's kind of like, all right, here we are. And she was like, she didn't, I wasn't her photographer, I was the event photographer, and I was like, you know what? She's good. I'm gonna take some photos. Maybe we can connect. And then lo and behold, here we are, like six months later. So, you got any music coming out? I do. June the 12th, I have a great summer song coming out, and it's like upbeat, it's rowdy, it's called Raise a Little Hell. It's uh kind of about, you know, growing up in South Carolina on the weekends, we'd go out, have fun, bonfires, four-wheelers, tailgates, you know, jack duck trucks. Give me some Gretchen Wilson. The cool yeah, and that's exactly what this is. You know, I grew up listening to Gretchen Wilson and Toby Keith and all those. Oh, yeah. And I was like, I want a song like that. So I wrote it.
unknownOkay, there you go.
SPEAKER_00And I wrote this one with my uh producer, Sal Oliveri, who is just incredible as well. So it was neat to have him write this with me and produce it. So I love that for you. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I can't wait for you to hear it. You hadn't heard you. I know, I'm excited. This one's gonna be so much fun to perform. And the first time that we ever perform this song, you are gonna be at the show. So we're gonna perform this show. I mean, this song at the rodeo. Oh, okay. So it'll be the first it will be the first like time we ever played the song. I'm gonna learn how to get those octopus arms so I have like all the the cameras so I can get every angle that I possibly can for it. Villan that one for sure. So if there's one piece of advice that you've been given in your music or just really your journey at all, what it like what sits with you? I mean, uh the advice that really like helped me, I've had a lot of advice, let me tell you. But the advice that has actually helped me is that in everything that I do, make sure I have a great support system around me because the music industry, like it's it is bad for your mental health sometimes. Let's just be honest. Like, this is a really hard and dark industry sometimes. If you know, because you're you're constantly, you know, comparing yourself to other people and um you're trying to make it and you're pushing and you're working hard. So it, you know, it just overloads your brain sometimes. So, you know, I was given the advice to know just to have a great support system and put God first. And I'm telling you, it has truly worked out for me. I wake up every morning and I say, God, if this is not meant for me, you close that door. If it is meant for me, you open that door. And I have lived by that, even when those doors close and it hurts, even when he closes them, I know that it's in my best interest. He has my best interest. And I don't have to be huge and famous, I don't have to. I just want my music to reach people and change people's lives. Like it's really about a purpose. And if you can find your purpose and music and not just think, oh, I want to be famous, I want to have a household name, that's when it gets dark because you're chasing the wrong things. If your goal is like the materialistic things, the the house and all these things, like, no, try again. Like try again. So yeah, um I would say, you know, you know, put the right things as a priority. That's the and that's why I like working with people like you, because like the whole point of mischief was to work with people with the heart, the heart behind it. Like everybody there's so many people now, especially with TikTok like blowing people up. It's like, oh, they want the fame, they want the fortune, but like you forget the reason why your why. Yeah. I always tell people whether that's in country dancing, music, whatever I'm doing, like remembering your why, I think is the most important part because that's what's gonna keep you going even on your darkest days. Absolutely. So if you haven't already, make sure you're street, go and stream. I wish I could talk. Words are hard. It's been a long day. Give her a break. So, how long have we been going at this? We've been going since what, 10 o'clock this morning? Well, when we can find parking. Yeah, okay. We're not even gonna talk about that. That's for another video. We're our cars are probably getting towed right now as we're doing this. I think I paid. I'm not sure. I didn't have caffeine when I parked this morning. It's fine. It'll bluff. We'll figure it out. So if you're not already, make sure you go check out Becca Bowen and all streaming platforms that you've got. Um, because you got new music coming out. You've already got some great songs out. Doing a lot of shows. Y'all come out. We we put on a heck of a show. We were very we were like performers, the whole band. You are even during your acoustic ones, like you still put on like I'm not shocked by that, but like some people when you're doing acoustic, especially writers' rounds, they're like, Yeah, I'm just vibing. It's so hard for me to sit in a seat. I mean, you see, today I can tell it whiskey. You know, it's hard for me. I'm like, when they put me in that seat for that writer's round, I'm like, ah, let me up, let me out of here. Kiddle, like crack, like it's like I just need to move around. But alright, like I said, go ahead and stream Becca Bowen. That sounded really weird, but it is what it is. Give her a follow, check out her music, and that's enough for talking mischief.
