Oathbreaker: A DND Story
Episode 1: Oath of Defiance
Step into the world of Oathbreaker, where magic isn't just power—it's controlled, regulated, and weaponized by those in authority. This premiere episode introduces you to five unlikely heroes who've found common ground in their resistance to the Tower, a mysterious organization that requires all magic users to register their blood or face deadly consequences.
Xanifer, the unpredictable eladrin sorcerer; Quill, a human fighter hiding beneath imposing armor and magical runes; Dane, a half-elf cleric leading a double life as a Tower bounty hunter; Zane, a half-orc warlock bound by mysterious obligations; and Nelvax, a human monk with underworld connections—each brings their own secrets and skills to this uneasy alliance.
When a desperate halfling loses a precious Kotal feather—a rare artifact from a benevolent creature that once saved humanity—to the flames of an angry bugbear casino owner, our adventurers find themselves drawn into a conflict that touches on debts, family heirlooms, and potentially dangerous political connections. Their journey takes them from the welcoming atmosphere of the Lucky Leap tavern to the opulent and slightly sinister Triple Nine casino, where negotiations quickly reveal the complex web of power they're entangled in.
This first adventure sets the stage for what promises to be an epic campaign of moral choices, magical rebellion, and the constant question of who to trust in a world where even speaking out can be deadly. Will our heroes challenge the Tower's iron grip on magic? Or will they be forced to play by rules designed to control them?
Subscribe now to follow this band of reluctant rebels as they navigate a high fantasy world with darkly political undertones, where every spell cast comes with consequences, and freedom might be the most powerful magic of all.
The start of our new campaign. Episode 0 is our introduction to our characters and our players figuring out how they interact with our world and NPCs.
Hello, welcome to Oathbreaker. A D&D story. This is a brand new Real Play Dungeons Dragons podcast and we are so excited that you're here. This is actually our second podcast together as a group, so if you're new to us, welcome. We hope you enjoy this. If you're a returning fan, thank you so much for coming back. I promise this one is so much better than the last one.
Speaker 2:We learned a lot from our first podcast, so we're coming back with those lessons learned and getting ready to get into it, this podcast. We're diving into the 2024 rules, learning them as we go and, like any good adventuring party, we'll probably stumble here and there, but that is half the fun here. At the heart of it, we're just a group of friends trying to tell a story together and inviting you along for the ride. We're not by any means a high production show, but we do put time and effort into this show and along the way, we're going to make it as enjoyable as possible, while making each other laugh. If you like what you hear, check out our social media or, better yet, come join our discord. We run community games once a month in there that anybody can jump into, and most nights you'll find someone hanging out and playing video games. So stop by, say hi, all right, that's enough for me. Uh, let's get into the adventure.
Speaker 3:I hope you enjoy oathbreaker when it comes to brand, we love giving you loads.
Speaker 2:Welcome to a D&D story. Nope, fixing that one One second. Welcome to Oathbreaker, a D&D story. I am Brandon, the Irish Wookiee, and with me today is Justin.
Speaker 4:Hi Brandon.
Speaker 2:Hey.
Speaker 4:Justin, you threw me off because it wasn't built.
Speaker 2:I know New campaign, new rules, baby Very weird, I don't know about this.
Speaker 4:So, hey, brandon, I'm Justin and I play Nelvax. Nelvax is a human monk. He's level 5 right now, and you'll learn more about him soon.
Speaker 2:And Bill.
Speaker 5:Hello, I am Bill. I play Zane Umberlight. He is a half-orc warlock level 5.
Speaker 2:And Brandon hey Brandon.
Speaker 1:Hello, hey, I'm playing Quill, a human fighter who always wears his armor and always speaks in a controlled, authoritative voice. Because of how in control and authoritative he is.
Speaker 2:Maddie.
Speaker 3:Hi everybody, my name is Maddie. I play Dane Voss, a half-elf cleric.
Speaker 2:You know, after playing Monty and you introducing every, I play Montoya Onigo, and now you're just. I'm Dane Voss.
Speaker 3:The Arctic Suboxone Ranger. Hi guys, my name's Dane, I'm half-elf, oh, and I'm level 5, too, just like everybody else. Spoiler.
Speaker 2:And a new addition to our little band of merry men, andrew.
Speaker 6:Hey everyone, I'm Andrewrew. I'm playing xanifer. Uh, the eladrin divine soul sorcerer, also level five wonderful.
Speaker 2:So this is our new campaign from the dnd story. Uh, this is brand new. All new characters, all new world. Uh, this is a little bit. It's going to be a high fantasy set setting with a little bit of dark fantasy thrown in here. Uh, it's going to be a little bit more of a serious campaign. But we're we're following our, our heritage or where we came from. I guess you could say we're new.
Speaker 2:On 2024 rules, I've read the dms, uh, the, the dm guide time instead of just relying on my players to teach me how to DM. So I think we're a little better off. But again, new rule set. This is us trying it for the first time and learning as we go. So make sure you give us a follow and a like on Facebook at facebookcom slash ADNDstory. Retweet us on Twitter or ex at ADDstory2. And make sure you're checking us out on Instagramcom slash ADNDstory.
Speaker 2:We are going to be using the same social medias that we used for our last campaign, but you will see our channel on Spotify, apple, whatever you're listening to us on, you're going to see that separated, as you already know, because you're listening to episode one.
Speaker 2:All right, so you are five adventurers that have been traveling together for about a year now and you have seen the ups and downs of of of humanity and all the other races. You've seen the goods and evils you fought through it and you've kind of come together as a as a as a group of hardy adventurers that the local town folk and the the local town folk and guards have come to rely on over time to take care of some of the problems that the common soldiers and the red cloaks aren't really suited for. They you are. You're currently taking a relaxing night off in one of your favorite pubs called the Lucky Leap, and you're all sitting at a table with one another. So, one at a time, please tell us what the other players see and know of you, and we'll start with you, andrew.
Speaker 6:So, standing at a commanding 5'6", 135 pounds, soaking wet, is Xaniver. Five foot six, uh, 135 pounds, soaking wet, is xanifer. Uh, he's a ladron elf. Uh, a bit aloof, a bit um, impulsive at times, that the other uh players and characters would have seen in our time together. Uh, he doesn't really think through the long-term consequences of his actions. He's more about what he can do now, what uh best serves him now.
Speaker 6:Uh, he's never met a stranger, uh very friendly fellow and, um, at times it seems like there are uh people that come and talk to him that he has some established history with, but anytime the the group really sees them, with them, he's like oh no, that's just a's just an old friend from boarding school or whatever, and doesn't really go into it in detail. Today he is kind of merry and looking in kind of the blossoming colors of spring. He's been known to shift his appearance from time to time, but he does favor his spring appearance for all the advantages that it gives him. And at the table he's just kind of sitting back and relaxing and drinking a nice tall glass of mead.
Speaker 2:Okay. Do any of the players have any questions about Xenover?
Speaker 3:Yeah, what did you say? Your ace was?
Speaker 6:An Eladrin elf, so a fey wild elf.
Speaker 4:Okay, yes, justin does he have any particular friendships like? Does he lean towards a closeness with any of the other characters so far?
Speaker 6:without any descriptions of anybody yeah, so just shooting cold, right? I know that quill is very calculated and so probably to answer that question by answering the opposite of it uh, he's probably a little bit more um cold with quill. Uh, they butt heads from time to time just because, if I understand correctly, quill is more calculating and xanaver is more kind of free-flowing with his actions.
Speaker 2:We can't have tension in the party before he's even described his character.
Speaker 5:He did, though he was the only one that described his character.
Speaker 6:He's very commanding and I'm against authority. Okay.
Speaker 3:What's your alignment with the tower, interaction with the tower and before that, maybe it's a good lore drop for you, brandon, to explain to everybody what the tower, interaction with the tower, and before that maybe it's a good like lore drop for you, brandon, to explain to everybody what the tower is.
Speaker 2:yeah, so the tower is a. The tower is a faction within this realm that's no more like a faction. It's a faction within this realm that that controls the use of magic, and by that I mean any true magic user, meaning a wizard, cleric, sorcerer or sorry, a wizard, sorcerer or warlock needs to be part of the tower, where they're considered wildlings, so somebody that's not part of it. So any magic user that is part of the tower has given a phylactery of blood to the tower so that they know where they are at all times. Otherwise, if they are caught using magic and they're not part of this catalog or library of phylacteries, they are hunted by the red cloaks and if they're seen, they're caught, given the chance to become part of the tower, or else there is imprisonment or worse, depending on what you've done with magic, and there is reasons behind that and we'll get into that section a little bit later.
Speaker 3:Oh, there's reasons behind it. I thought you were just in a fever rush when you came up with that one.
Speaker 6:No, no, no, we're out there like some random crystals or something I want a high magic world where magic is heavily regulated and you cannot use it unless you have a license.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Do you have your concealed magic license?
Speaker 3:Can they wear little like patches to say, like a star, maybe no, we're not doing that, no.
Speaker 1:Canceled episode one. We're leaning more towards superhero registration sort of thing, right.
Speaker 6:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6:The Tarkovia Accords Anyway to answer your question, matty. So within populated areas, xanathar tries to keep his magic to a minimum, tries to be subtle in his casting, not cast anything too powerful. In places where they're not leaving any witnesses he will unleash his true potential, but at least for right now he's trying to stay under the radar because he doesn't hail from the material realm and so he kind of questions what authority this tower has over him and he'd prefer to just kind of stay out of their graces one way or the other.
Speaker 5:So is he registered or not registered? I didn't catch that, or do we know? Do we know if he's registered or not registered?
Speaker 6:You would not know whether he's registered or not registered. You would not know whether he's registered or not registered.
Speaker 2:Okay, any other questions?
Speaker 3:no, but I want to go next because I think our backstories could tie together. It could be it's gonna be fun I.
Speaker 2:I want brandon to go next, just because he specifically called him out. I'm sorry, maddie.
Speaker 3:Fine I guess, good, good brandon, we can only introduce your character before me this once. Uh called him out.
Speaker 2:I'm sorry, matty, fine, I guess, go ahead.
Speaker 3:Brandon, we can only introduce your character before me this once.
Speaker 1:Yeah, sorry for giving any sort of introduction previously.
Speaker 1:I thought that's what we were doing, but, yeah, so Quill, in his dark, large, imposing armor weapons strapped to every conceivable surface with clever mechanisms that allow him to actually reach them in a timely manner.
Speaker 1:He always speaks in an authoritative voice because he wants to give the appearance of being controlled. What some of you might have seen in the time that we've been working together or traveling together is that, outside of the armor, rather than this six foot two man that you might expect to see, he's actually only 5'8" right. He gives himself a little bit of a lift in there and so, being authoritative and calculating, especially as a battlemaster, he compensates a lot with brute force when he can. His relation to the tower, in particular, is definitely fraught with some history there, because Cal, the man inside the quill suit, actually has his entire body covered in these magical runes which are the source of his strength. There's this whole thing with his father who died, and they were killed by the Red Cloaks, who died, and they were killed by the Red Cloaks. And so, yeah, cal slash Quill likes to stay under the radar and doesn't want any legal entanglements.
Speaker 2:Any questions for Quill?
Speaker 4:You said Cal slash Quill, so for us you're non-military friends. What do we call you? Do we call you Cal? Do we call you Cal Do?
Speaker 1:we call you Quill, probably stick with Quill all the time, because Cal is somebody who like it's like using somebody's secret name. He's using Quill as a secret identity, more or less, to stay out of the Red Cloak's view that's his Batman persona is Quill.
Speaker 5:Yeah, yeah so have we seen Quill out of armor?
Speaker 1:I would say after a year. More than likely there would have to be some sort of situation, right?
Speaker 5:so you said he's like 5'6. Is that what you said? There would have to be some sort of situation, right? So you said he's like 5'6". Is that what you said? So what does he look like? You said he's covered in tattoos, like long flowing hair.
Speaker 1:Imagine the kind of a thin bookish type he actually does wear glasses. And you know, just kind of un thin bookish type. He actually does wear glasses. And you know just kind of unkempt hair. He stays in the suit a lot. So I wasn't going to say that he stinks, I wasn't going to say that his hair is always messed up, but yeah, his more or less imagine full body tattoos, except they are magically inscribed runes from a ritual that his father conducted.
Speaker 5:So does his personality shift between? I apologize if you said this already does his personality? You said he's very commanding and outspoken when he's in the armor commanding and outspoken when he's in the armor. Yeah, but uh far more bookish and shy and keeps to himself and tries to be unassuming, okay, and he got all this from his father.
Speaker 3:Huh, that sounds like some next level child abuse to me.
Speaker 1:Well, kind of um, and that's that's part of the problem is that even in their upbringing, or the way they lived within the or under the authority of these red cloaks, his father still took the time to learn these basically illegal magics because he's not supposed to be practicing it, in order to give his son a leg up, and then got killed for it. And so there's this conflict of whether or why they would have killed him if, as Quill knows, his father isn't wrong. You know his father wouldn't do that. His father is inherently good and therefore the tower must be bad. His father is inherently good and therefore, the tower must be bad.
Speaker 6:Would we know at this point that your father was killed for performing this ritual on you?
Speaker 1:or that this ritual even had occurred. Likely, if we all have something against the tower, it probably would have come up.
Speaker 2:Okay, awesome Thanks, bryn. All right, matty, go for it.
Speaker 3:Yes, just one moment.
Speaker 2:I'm changing my name, just so you were dying for it earlier, and now you're telling me to wait.
Speaker 3:Well, I was on the other screen.
Speaker 1:Why did everyone shift? Am I the only one who saw that?
Speaker 5:No, everybody shifted. Brandon was up there, and now he's down there.
Speaker 3:All I did was change my name from Montoya Inigo to Dane Voss, all right. So in the tavern you see this half-elf cleric. His name is Dane. He has red hair and a red beard. Completely unintentional, it kind of looks a lot like Brandon. That was not the purpose behind that, but he's a very, very large individual.
Speaker 2:If you compliment your DM, you will get preferential treatment. I'm just throwing that out there.
Speaker 3:Okay. So, brandon, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? We'll use that for Dane. We'll say he has bigger muscles, though. Well, you got pretty big muscles there you go, uh, anyway, uh, sorry, ladies he is that is an insult to brandon pretty big muscles he has pretty big muscles, oh my god they are pretty big guys.
Speaker 3:Stop yeah, uh, anyway. So, uh, dane's profession is actually that of a bounty hunter. So his, his entire stick and his, his deal is that he um is a bounty hunter for the tower uh, he goes out when the tower finds individuals, uh, primarily the ones that have reached the far extremes of what they're allowed to do with their magic powers or refusal to register, and he spreads democracy around the realm through the form of helping them to stop breathing anymore or, in some cases, detaining them and bringing them back. The unique aspect of Dane's character is, a long time ago, he figured out that the tower really wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So, instead of going out and murdering these people, he would help them either fake their deaths, escape, hide, just evade, capture uh from the the tower and then report back that they had been eliminated. Um, you know, sometimes bring him back like a finger or something that he'd be like yep, I killed the person or something to that extent to to prove that he was doing his job. But in reality, he uh doesn't go around killing people. Uh, so he is kind of a like a. You know, he's a bounty hunter for the tower essentially. Uh, also, what helps us do this job is.
Speaker 3:His mother is actually a high official within the tower and she too shares a similar disdain towards it and maintains her position. Uh, purely to. She's a high magistrate. That's what I came up with. Um, she uses her position to feed Dane and anybody he's in contact with kind of insider information, as it is, but their efforts are under extreme surveillance and they have to be extremely careful, and so their efforts to take down the tower, or more like death by a thousand cuts, because they're just two people and that's about all they can do, dane. Actually, I think, what else about Dane? He's wearing full plate armor, he carries a giant mace and has a shield. Yeah, he's an all-around like just good guy, but one look at him and you're probably going to hope that you're not on the list that he is looking for.
Speaker 2:All right. Questions for Dane.
Speaker 6:Will we have seen you kind of usher a target of the tower to safety during this last year, or do you do that kind of outside of the group, outside of our gaze?
Speaker 3:Well, and that was actually kind of my question for your character, andrew, and the way that we could link the two together is has the tower ever sent somebody, potentially day and after you? Have you evaded their, their lure, or, sorry, their, their eye or watchful eye so far since?
Speaker 3:you've been here, I would say that that xanover would have evaded their eye so far um, then I think anybody's in this group, unless anybody would participate in the hiding or, uh you know, obfuscation of these individuals that Dane was sent out to kill. I mean, you guys know that it's something that he does in the background. He has involved himself with this group because he knows you all share similar interests to him and are working towards that common good. So sorry, what was your question? I don't think I actually answered it.
Speaker 6:No, I think you did. I mean, the question was about would we have seen you do this? And it sounds like we probably would have seen you at some point kind of let a target of the tower escape and we never kind of follow up on it. And the rest of the group is okay with that, because I have yet to hear anyone that wants to work with the tower.
Speaker 1:But there's still two more, there's if there is anyone that is, the dan would probably not be sharing that information with them, but our listeners can know uh, yeah, so is this like, uh, a nine to five thing, like we get done with our adventuring day and you're like, well guys, uh, I got a thing I gotta go take care of real quick, or?
Speaker 3:I know I gotta talk to a guy about a cat. Um, no, and actually we've kind of been adventuring for a while for the past year. So I'd say you know we're, um, he's meeting up with this group to kind of go on whatever our next adventure might be. And after our previous one, um, he went off and did a couple of jobs for, uh, the tower or kind of you know, kept in the good graces of um you know of of them and has returned back to this group to then go, you know, off for a period of time, but at some point he will have to return to the bounties Again. Being a bounty hunter is kind of like a contractor you pick and choose the ones that you want.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I was going to ask a follow-up question, more of a freelance relationship. So you're kind of a known entity but probably not trusted.
Speaker 3:Fully. Yeah, but I do have everybody. I mean the relationship between him and his mother. I don't think is is a closely guarded secret and it's one that he he very much protects because he knows that if he ever got uncovered that his mother's life would be in jeopardy. But she is also helping him.
Speaker 5:So there's that I thought Justin had a question. Did somebody answer it?
Speaker 4:Yeah, I did. There's that I thought justin had a question or did somebody answer it? Yeah, I did. It wasn't super related and it's really not helpful to what we're doing.
Speaker 2:So what's your question?
Speaker 4:go for it man, go ahead, man. Uh well, my question was unfairly who amongst your party are you most closely, you feel like your best friends with so far?
Speaker 3:Does anybody want to say that their character was once hunted by the tower and Dane helped them escape?
Speaker 2:I mean that's like literally.
Speaker 1:That's basically Quill's backstory.
Speaker 5:Pretty sure everybody has been hunted by the tower, but that doesn't fit my backstory that you helped me escape.
Speaker 1:As long as it's within recent memory, the last few years, I guess it makes sense that Quill would have or hell. You probably helped Cal come up with the Quill persona as a way to hide him. There we go, or could have if you would like.
Speaker 3:Yes, and he drove that persona off his own personality.
Speaker 2:So, yes, and Matty, I have a question for you. So is Quill or not Quill?
Speaker 3:I'm sorry, I can't answer questions about Quill, but I'll answer all the questions about Dane.
Speaker 2:Dane. Is Dane looking at this party of his to help him overthrow the tower, or is it more? This is a match of convenience at the time.
Speaker 3:More of a match of convenience. I think he knows that if he needs help and assistance in hiding an individual or getting them out of an area, that these are people that he can go to. We still have to hear about Justin and Glenn, but I think what I know so far about their characters, that would align.
Speaker 5:Glenn's not part of this story.
Speaker 3:Oh, I'm sorry, Zane Zane, I read Glenn, because it says it right there.
Speaker 5:It should say both yeah it does it does.
Speaker 6:He didn't want to give up his spot on video as the number three person, so he added Zane to the end of it.
Speaker 2:Anything else for Dane?
Speaker 5:I apologize. What does he look like?
Speaker 3:Brandon.
Speaker 5:Okay, oh, that's right.
Speaker 3:Red beard, he's half elf Brandon with pointy ears. Okay, oh, that's right, red beard, he's half elf Brandon with pointy ears. So if Brandon was going to dress up in cosplay and go to a renaissance fair or something, that'd pretty much be what Daniel would be.
Speaker 2:I'll send you a photo. I have that picture.
Speaker 5:I was just going to say so. If Brandon, that is a race, I would never attribute to Brandon a half elf.
Speaker 2:He's a little buff and Half-elf, half what True Half-elf? Half giant.
Speaker 5:That is racist of me to assume the other half is always human.
Speaker 3:He's a half-elf half beefcake, but he presents as like Can anybody be a full elf in D&D? How come it's always half-elves? Why isn't there ever going to be a full elf? I'm a full elf in D&D. How come?
Speaker 4:it's always half elves. Why isn't there ever going to be a full elf? I'm a full elf.
Speaker 3:What does mean full elf? Oh, okay.
Speaker 4:Nines is a full elf.
Speaker 5:Yeah, what are?
Speaker 3:you talking about. So is more. I thought you said. I thought you guys said they were. I thought not mores. And nines were half elves.
Speaker 5:No, I don't. Glen was the only half-elf. Okay, never mind.
Speaker 3:So yeah, apparently there can be. You know, a simple yes would have been sufficient.
Speaker 2:That doesn't work with this group. We all know that.
Speaker 5:But not nearly as fun it is.
Speaker 3:Nearly as fun. Almost stupid you are right.
Speaker 1:How are we all going to know that you're stupid, unless we?
Speaker 3:say it, unless we all say it.
Speaker 2:You know it's funny, maddie. After we talked earlier I I got up maddie called me and asked me what a utility item was and to help figure out something like that. And after I I went back into the super bowl party. I was at. It's like, babe, you're never gonna believe this. Maddie didn't know what a utility item was and she looked at me like I had a dick grown out of my head. She's like I don't. What do you want me to say right now?
Speaker 5:Can you coach me on the snarky response?
Speaker 2:Anything else for Dane? No, we're good.
Speaker 3:Zane.
Speaker 5:All right, zane Umberlight. He is a half-orc warlock. So his description he has gray skin, gray eyes, jet black hair. He's about 6'4 or so tall, 230 pounds. He's battle-scarred. He looks like he's been in a fight or two throughout his life. It's about 20 ish, 18 to 20 years old, somewhere in there.
Speaker 5:Um, he doesn't really know. Um, he was from different things and interactions you've seen him get in throughout your travel times together. He's familiar with the underground, like the, the seedy, underbelly, the, the crime areas. He's familiar with it and seems like he can uh kind of flow through those things and and carry on conversations and hold his own in that type of environment. But also he seems to be familiar and able to hold his own when dealing with tower officials. You know for a fact that he has gone on missions to do things for them. But he's very guarded on what those missions are and you can tell when he comes back that he's not super happy with the missions that he's been sent on, what he's had to do, but but he doesn't really talk about it and he kind of avoids the subject when he, you know, when it's brought up he's it's like he's not proud of it. But he understands that it's something that he has to do.
Speaker 5:Like I said, he's very kind of subdued. He talks, he's not silent or anything like that, but he's very subdued and he kind of doesn't really like having to do the tower's bidding. That's it. He wears like not ornate but very spiky leather armor that has, like, looks like it's put together very well, put together very well, and when you see him, um, when you see him fight, you see him like his sword kind of slowly or slowly extracts out of his hand, and when it's coming out of his hand it shows that it's like a jet black long sword with runes and everything on it.
Speaker 5:Um, but uh, when it's come, when it's appearing in his hand, it looks like, um, if you look at his face, his facial expression, it looks like it is painful for him to pull this weapon, for this weapon to be conjured. It looks like it's coming out of his arm, out of his hand, into or out of from his arm, through his hand, into his hand for him to use it. And I think that's it. You've seen him on numerous occasions as he's blending in with crowds and stuff. You see him kind of his face changes occasionally like not drastic but small changes, like his eyes will get a little bit bigger, his ears will get a little bit bigger, his ears will get a little smaller, his teeth will grow a little bit, um, but but that's him.
Speaker 2:I'm excited to see you play a subdued character yeah, um, me too.
Speaker 5:Um, so he, uh, you have heard him talk about. You've heard the name. Oh, I wrote it down but I can't remember it. Hang on, oh, lyra. You've heard him say the name Lyra, but anytime he's questioned on it he kind of backs away and kind of withdraws okay, any questions for Zane?
Speaker 2:Yep, god damn it.
Speaker 4:Justin, who does Zane like in the party?
Speaker 5:So I would say he most likely is very close with Nelvax. No, I'm just kidding, I would say most likely with Dane, because of similar things going on.
Speaker 3:Aren't we all a bunch of sub dudes?
Speaker 2:No, Brandon's not.
Speaker 5:Being friendly with Dane is really there's not a whole lot of difference between being friendly and being dismissive. Not dismissive, distant, Passive. Yeah, he's kind of, like I said, subdued, but he has a lot in common with Dane. Except for that whole helping people get away alive thing.
Speaker 2:Any other questions? For Zane? Okay, and finally Nelvax, and we're done right, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 4:Make a shadow. Nelvax is forgotten. Yeah, so Nelvax. Nelvax is a human monk, he is a warrior of shadows. So mechanically speaking he's a warrior of shadows. So he's very sneaky and you know punches good. As far as personality goes, he like outside of combat, outside of work, he's kind of a party boy. He wants to drink, he wants to meet and talk to girls, he wants to try whatever illicit substances are available to him. He's looking to just enjoy his life as best as he can and just make the best of it. Over the year that we've been together, you guys have learned that this kind of comes from a fairly unpleasant past. His monastery was burned to the ground and only he and his brother escaped, and his brother kind of keeps him on the straight and narrow. His brother told me tin Tom Tom was in shit.
Speaker 3:I remember I heard right here that's a whiskey, it's a was it burned to the ground by blue orcs?
Speaker 4:it was all my bed, not a whiskey it was. So Tomozal has much more of a focus on trying to understand what happened to his background and Nelvax is more just still alive. Let's enjoy it while we can. He has become a prominent member in the local thieves guild through his monkly shadow abilities, so he comes into money pretty easily because he's pretty good at what he does, and then he spends it, uh, quickly and extravagantly. Um, he, you know he's not really looking towards the future at all. It's just living as best as he can while he can.
Speaker 4:Uh, something you guys know about him is that while he's on a job is that he's all about the job and it almost is a very different personality, like when he's on it he's he's very focused, he's very into it and not much distracts him from it, but otherwise he's just looking to have a good time. His brother does, like I mentioned, kind of pull him straight and narrow. So when his brother pops in from time to time with some leads on what might have happened to the monastery, which is kind of like his brother's fixation to figure out who and why their monastery was raised, it does bring a little bit of seriousness to his life, but he hasn't really committed himself to the same kind of search. New beer, new ladies that's kind of his forte for the most part. Brandon has a question Go?
Speaker 2:Does Nelvax spend his money only on him, or does he consider his party like friends? Will he spend his money on his friends as well, or is it just him mostly? No, as far as his money on his friends as well, or is it just him mostly?
Speaker 4:no, as far as his money will take him like, a good time is only better with your companions. So he's come to really care about all the, the, the four of his buddies and whoever is willing to come and do the. Whatever he's doing, he is more than happy to throw his money at it and try to make sure that they're enjoying it as much as he is.
Speaker 3:Um, I don't know how willing they are to join him, but hey, you want to do a line of blow off the hookers behind yeah, you got to come out of your armor for this, but it's a good time you know, justin, this is probably.
Speaker 2:I've seen you play a lot of characters. I think this is the closest character to you that I've ever seen you play.
Speaker 1:I don't think that's true. This is a full-on self-insert Hold on.
Speaker 4:I don't know how to take that.
Speaker 5:So Zane will go with you and not necessarily partake in the hedonistic lifestyle, but he will come with you and watch you.
Speaker 3:As his face slowly changes and morphs while he's watching.
Speaker 5:And the sword keeps coming out of his hand.
Speaker 2:Zane, you're lip-sticking again. Black rocket, black rocket, zane, you're lip-sticking again Black Rocket, black Rocket. Any questions for Nelvax?
Speaker 5:Bill. So of any of the party, who would you think that he's most friendly with?
Speaker 4:That's a good question. I was thinking about that the whole time Since I've been asking that question. No one would ever ask that back. It seems kind of like Xanifer is the most openly friendly person towards people, towards having a relationship with people and just hanging out and having a good time. But I could be wrong. I've not really met your characters yet.
Speaker 6:No, you're 100% spot on with Xaniver. He'd go in and do some shady shit with you as long as it led to a good time.
Speaker 4:Well, it's all above board. Just don't ask the wrong questions.
Speaker 2:Any other questions for?
Speaker 1:Nelvax, would you say your brother's name was Tomazal? Tomazal T-O-M-A-Z-A-L is that an SSRI?
Speaker 4:probably yeah, with the way the market is alright, I'm sorry that was a drugs joke. Yeah, no Big fun.
Speaker 1:The way everybody else is quiet.
Speaker 2:Nothing, man, I'm sorry you said that and I'm like.
Speaker 3:Sounds like a bunch of prescription drugs.
Speaker 2:Oh, is this a learning moment from a D&D story? Yeah, it's a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor commonly used for depression and anxiety perfect, and this has been a learning moment from a dnd story.
Speaker 1:So if you're honest, ask your doctor if tomazol is right for you my god unfortunately, in this campaign I don't think tomozal is going to have that effect.
Speaker 4:So I did, I embedded him as a hook for brandon to get, um, nelvax back into the loop to care about something, because if tomozal cares about something, nelvax will care about something. So that's kind of like my yeah, my reel for brandon to. That's exactly what like my reel for Brandon to yoink me.
Speaker 1:That's exactly what I thought Tomizal would do make you care again.
Speaker 4:Yeah, exactly, forget about not caring about anything. This will really make you care about something.
Speaker 1:Man, these are pretty fire depression jokes guys.
Speaker 4:You're just not reacting Chicken every day, or else you might miss out.
Speaker 3:Come to find out his brother doesn't actually exist. It's just a bag of pills in his pocket hey spoilers.
Speaker 4:Come on, man.
Speaker 3:He tells everybody. This is what my brother told me.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 3:No, my brother helped me out, it was okay, all right, any questions for anybody that we haven't covered.
Speaker 6:So how often would we have seen your brother over the course of the last year? So would we be familiar with them, would we be friendly with them? I mean, how often does he show up and kind of realign you?
Speaker 4:Cool. So I didn't talk to Brandon too much about this. But my vision of Tomozal is that as much as Nelvax, my character doesn't give a shit about the world, anything outside of his own well-being and the few people he cares about. Uh, tomas all gives uh his whole life towards trying to figure out what happened. Like why would somebody come burn down their monastery? Um, tomas, all's not a way of shadows monk. Um, so they kind of grew up on the streets together and they took what they knew from the monastery. So they kind of grew up on the streets together and they took what they knew from the monastery and like kind of grew into their own style.
Speaker 4:And while nelvex kind of grew into the shadows and the sneakery and like made him really excel in the thieves guild, tomas all ended up becoming a way of the elements monk which by most standards would be very mage-like. He's able to conjure lightning and fire and ice through his physical manifestation of his own ki and energy and life essence. During his investigations, something had led him to the tower. Is the right word right, brandon, correct? So it led him to the tower. But he right word, right, brandon, correct? Uh, so he led him to the tower but he couldn't pass the entrance exams because he's not really a full caster, he's a half caster maybe, at best probably quarter caster is probably closer for like a month class, uh. So they didn't let him in, which made his superstitions, uh, rise even more. So he's been trying to like infiltrate and figure out what kind of secrets they have, because he's kind of convinced that they're behind the raising.
Speaker 4:Whether that's true or not, who can say so? Every month, every two months or so, he pops up and he has this new lead for us to follow, which may or may not end up in a side quest for us to go through if some of us aren't available to go investigate a lead dead end or end up in a side quest for us to go through if some of us aren't available to go investigate a lead dead end or not. Red herring or not, whatever. So you guys would know of him and he's kind of a party pooper. You know he's really intense, he's pretty sure that the world is out to get him and the sky is falling and he's real serious all the time and he does mean well. But man, he is not a good time. Like you don't want to drink a beer with this dude? Uh, because he's going to start telling you about all the conspiracies that the government is doing to you, and he may not be wrong this is a question for brandon.
Speaker 5:Did you think that the entire party was going to be against the tower?
Speaker 2:Absolutely. Come on, guys.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 2:If one of you was favorable towards the tower based off what I told you, I would have been extremely surprised.
Speaker 3:Or if we all were.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 5:I would have bought a lottery ticket.
Speaker 3:Let's kill those magic users any of you know where we can find a wizard that lives in a tree oh yeah, he's over in Bayram Grove look, that was a different timeline but it was like the quintessential Moors moment.
Speaker 4:I'm sorry, I play my characters.
Speaker 1:Sweet.
Speaker 4:See how Novak does.
Speaker 2:Alright, so, like I mentioned, you guys are in the Lucky Leap Tavern. This is the bar you tend to congregate at when you're in the main city of Honardburg O-N-A-D-B-Y-R, and it's the main taproom. It's normally a pretty crowded place, especially on nights and weekends. You know the bartender, ricky O'Tayne. He is an elderly human male who owns this. He comes from a rich family background. You guys have heard his story plenty of times and this is his most recent establishment to try to get him to retirement age so he can go purchase a bit of land outside of the city and get away from city life.
Speaker 2:Rikio Tane, r-i-c-i-o, t-a-n-e. So he named this the Lucky Leap because Rikio came up with a game where, if you can, from a running leap and jumping at the doorway, anybody who can jump from the door step after a running start and get a certain distance gets a free drink, depending on how far they land. The distances are 10, 15, 20, 25 and a 30 foot marker. It's a game that the crowd or the patrons of the bar know very well. Uh, you guys have seen plenty of people play that as well. Um, and anybody can play it at any time, as long as Riccio is there to see it, you are all at the one of the main tables.
Speaker 2:There are four main tables in the center and there are some booths off to the side. Uh, you know, there are a set of laboratories on the east side of the building and the bar is on the west side of the building. The bar is well maintained. Like I said, riccio does come from some money, so he's got some of the better wines, better whiskeys, he's got some beer as well to appeal to the common folk of the area. And you guys, like I said, you've been here plenty of times. You're well known in this bar, especially the party boy. Especially the party boy. Hey.
Speaker 4:Doing what I can Report the local economy, you know.
Speaker 3:As he takes his shirt off and starts dancing on a table uh so it's a sorry, justin, it's an audio podcast you're gonna have to describe what your nipples look like.
Speaker 4:Sorry, I'll try to hit my clothes off louder next time. Perfect, so you can really hear the ruffling of the shirt against my dry skin.
Speaker 2:That'd be nice.
Speaker 2:So, as you're all sitting around enjoying your favorite pint of ale, wine and or whiskey, you see, walking into the door is Lorne Seinmonder. You all recognize him almost immediately. He is the much respected royal court lord protector of the crown, and so he is the captain of the crown protections, crown protectors, and so he's well known, he's well respected, even the commoners and enjoy his company. And so he walks in and immediately walks over to one of the side booths where, um, a small halfling uh, is sitting there and you, you can overhear their conversation. They're speaking loudly. The halfling is is saying, is saying oh, yes, I've, I have, I have what you were, you were asking me about. And he reaches into his side pocket and pulls out this extremely colorful large feather and he reaches it across the table. He's handling it very gently and he hands it to lord sign fonder, and the lord takes it and he says oh, this is gorgeous.
Speaker 2:I've been looking for something like this for so long. How much did you want for it? Well, I, 600 gold pieces. I can't really go any lower than this. Of course, you know, I have my own debts, I need to pay my lord, but I can't go any lower than 600. 600 is far too much. I can't go any lower than 600. 600 is far too much, I can't go that high.
Speaker 2:And they go back and forth haggling for a few minutes and they settle on and the halfling says the lowest I can go is 535 gold pieces, not a copper less. I do, of course, have seven children to feed and some significant debts to settle, so I am sorry, Five hundred and thirty-five gold pieces, not a cent lower. So after a few moments, lord Sign very reluctantly takes this feather and hands it back to the halfling and he says as much as I have been looking for a kodal feather, I, there's nothing, I, I, I cannot afford that. I of course have children of my own and they need to eat. So, uh, feeding them a feather wouldn't go well for us. And they shake hands and he points to the bartender, rickio, and rickio nods at him and he walks out. I'm just setting the scene right now. So if there's anything you guys want to do, feel free. If you want to grab a drink, want to talk, go for it.
Speaker 4:Would we know what kind of creature a Kotal feather belongs to?
Speaker 2:Yes, it is very well known among all of you what a Kotal is. Kotals are Kotals and Kotal feathers are very prized in this region because a Kotal was one of the. A Kotal teamed up with the humans during the age of the Dark Sign to overthrow that realm and we'll get into that a little bit later. But basically it was a very dark period for human society where they were ruled over by dark angels and a Kodal teamed up with the human resistance to overthrow that ring.
Speaker 3:You mentioned the gentleman requesting the feather was from. He is the captain of the Lord Protectorate.
Speaker 2:So it's like a yeah, he is the captain, he is the captain of the lord protectorate lord protect, so it's like a royal family of the area yeah, so they're. They're a specific section, uh sanction of the guards that uh protects royal family members what is the royal family's association with the tower?
Speaker 3:uh, good, bad, like completely separate organizations.
Speaker 2:The tower runs itself, but the king what's the word I'm looking for? The king backs it up basically. Not oversees it, but the king backs it, supplies it with any kind of resources it needs that kind of deal.
Speaker 3:Allows the tower to exist. Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 2:There is a lot of lore guys in this, but I promise it's much needed. That's fine. Any other questions you all have? Brandon, I know I'm info dumping right now.
Speaker 1:I'm just trying to keep up.
Speaker 2:You're muted, Andrew.
Speaker 6:Are we currently between jobs or do we have something that we're currently working on?
Speaker 2:No, you are currently between jobs. You have not been given anything for a while. Okay, so Lord Mondur walks out and then after, go ahead, bill.
Speaker 5:So is it safe to say that each of the party members will separate out and go do stuff on their own and then we come together to do stuff and then we go out on our? Is that kind of the cadence over the last year or so?
Speaker 3:Dane has just returned from such a venture.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I would say you all have your own individual missions that you've got to go on downtime. Yeah, stuff, you know me, I build campaigns with a lot of downtime in it, so yeah you do.
Speaker 2:You do Listen, I acknowledge my own weaknesses, all right. So after a few moments, lord Mondor, lord Mondor walks out and after a few minutes, um, a large a bug bear walks in, and um, dane, not Dane minutes. Um, a large bugbear walks in and um, dane, not dane. I'm sorry, nelvax. Nelvax, you recognize golfa because he is the head of a large gambling um, a large gambling facility in in in the town called the Triple Nine. And so Golfo walks over to the halfling and you hear him start to raise his voice towards the halfling and he's yelling at him. I told you for the last time, raphok, if you don't pay me back for what I'm owed, bad things will happen to you. I will get my debt from you one way or another.
Speaker 4:And he seemingly very emotional, he knocks a lantern over and it engulfs the feather that is on the table uh, having seen that, could I be close enough to try to catch that and like the lantern from knocking it over as soon as I see this aggressive demeanor coming in, can I be close enough to try to de-escalate and just keep things cool, all friends.
Speaker 2:No, this is about 15 feet from you.
Speaker 4:Novaks would at least be up on his feet as soon as the aggression really started. Having known this bugbear, I want to go over and try to keep him from hurting somebody well am I able to use my invisible hand to snatch the feather before?
Speaker 3:okay, got it. Brandon wants to feather the burn feather needs to burn right, so.
Speaker 2:So gola looks at you it's going to take me a minute to get all your names down. Gulfa looks at you, Nelvax, as you're walking over, and you see him smirk a little bit and he says I'll see you soon, Nelvax, and he looks one more time very angrily at the halfling and starts to walk away.
Speaker 4:I can't wait. Nelvax, did you owe him money me? No, I don't think so. Um, he seemed to be upset about this.
Speaker 6:Uh, this halfling or gnome or whatever this is over here, but why? Why will he be seeing you? That's a bit concerning, isn't it?
Speaker 4:no, that's a good question. I I keep pretty good control of my affairs. Can I uh like check that to know, like, is that it's an idle threat or do I owe him something?
Speaker 5:or you just gotta go to the bar yeah, you've talked to.
Speaker 2:You've talked to golf plenty of times. You don't owe him any money, he's just you're. You're a normal patron of his Of the triple nine and so he's used to seeing you. He knows that when you're in there he's going to get a lot of money.
Speaker 4:Well.
Speaker 2:I resent that, but also I represent that.
Speaker 4:Yeah, also Also. My money goes away.
Speaker 2:So that's funny. Before I even found out about the gambling thing, I already had this triple nine thing built in, so it's pretty good.
Speaker 4:Look, I'm good at what I do, so I can spend a lot of money.
Speaker 2:All right, okay, part of the process. Uh, yeah, so the halfling is just overwhelmed. He's, he's crying openly in his booth and uh, he's he's trying to pull the ashes back together in a pile and he's just pitiful so this bugbear just burnt up this 600 gold piece feather that the halfling was planning on using to get himself out of debt correct? I just realized. Did I actually describe to you what a kodal was?
Speaker 4:I asked about it, but you, I apologize, describe to you what a Kotal was.
Speaker 2:No, I asked about it, but you. I apologize, I went into the lore because I was excited about that. So, a Kotal, you can think of them as winged serpents, so they're typically very benevolent, virtuous-natured creatures and they tend to see the good in everybody. But they do have their wings, have beautiful feathers on both sides of their bodies and they typically help humans and other good aligned creatures. The largest of these creatures can reach up to 1,500 pounds, so they're large creatures.
Speaker 4:Am I familiar with the halfling who's under duress currently?
Speaker 2:You have not seen this halfling before, so just to kind of orient myself on this.
Speaker 1:This is unwarranted, this is like some sideways shit. Right, we should all be kind of like yo, what the fuck? Yeah, I'd say like currents and it's not a common occurrence yeah, rikio.
Speaker 2:Yeah, this is not a common occurrence. Rikio is alarmed. You see him reach behind him for like a large club, ready to protect his bar type of deal, but as soon as Gopher leaves, he comes over the rag and starts cleaning up the mess. Him for a large club, ready to protect his bar type of deal, but as soon as Golpha leaves, he comes over with a rag and starts cleaning up the mess. That Golpha, that's on this halfling's table.
Speaker 4:Then the Nelvax will approach Golpha, not Golpha, who is not friendly with him. What's the halfling's name again?
Speaker 2:You did hear it briefly, but his name is Rafolk.
Speaker 4:Rafolk, raffolk, all right, so after Gopher leaves, nelvax will, like, with genuine concern on his face, go up to Raffolk like hey, do you want to come sit down and tell us what's going on? It seems like you're in kind of a tough spot. Maybe we can help you out. And he does make like. He makes like trying to impress, like for price. He's suggesting but not saying.
Speaker 1:Uh, uh, quill will step in with. Uh, let's see how's Quill going to sound in his armor. Oh, what my friend is trying to say is we can. What my friend is trying to say is that we'll help you out if you make it worth our while. Maybe you got some more of those feathers somewhere.
Speaker 2:At the mention of the feather, the halfling just breaks down again and starts crying feather. The halfling just breaks down again and starts crying um, rickio comes over with a large mug of something and hands it to the halfling and and helps guide him over to your table. And uh, he points at, at dane and uh, he says you know? He says to the the halfling these, these ventures are, they're, they're well known within the city. If anybody can help you, they all can. Please explain to them what you need.
Speaker 3:I love that we're trying to get money out of the person that's trying to get money to pay for some serious stuff. But hey, that's cool.
Speaker 5:Pay his debts and pay for his kids' food. I mean, what do we venture into? I don't know what to tell you, man.
Speaker 4:Nothing's free.
Speaker 1:Quill will order a round for the table while we hear his tale of woe.
Speaker 3:Dane's just very much sitting back with his feet up on the table. He understands there's an injustice going on here, but it's not his injustice to solve currently. So he's just kind of observing everything that's going on here, but it's not his injustice to solve currently. So he's just kind of observing everything that's going on.
Speaker 2:Okay, what about Zane and Xanover? How are you guys reacting to this?
Speaker 5:So Zane doesn't like the fact that this bugbear burnt up this other guy's stuff and kind of doesn't understand why somebody would destroy something of value when that person owes them money. It just doesn't make any sense. But is willing to listen to the things the halflings Raffelk yeah, raffelk Listen to Raffelk's story and if there's something he could do to help he wouldn't be opposed to it. But he's definitely got interests in other directions because it doesn't seem like this has anything to do with his prime motivator right now okay.
Speaker 2:So the halfling, after a few minutes, starts to calm down and he begins to tell you all that I've only had. This was a family heirloom. I've only had two of them. My grandmother has the other one and if I don't pay back my debt to Gopher he's surely going to maim or even kill me. I mean, surely you know what he's like? And he looks over towards Nelvax.
Speaker 4:Do I have a background on him? On Gopher?
Speaker 2:Do I know more about him than yes, yeah, you know, first roll the campaign. Give it to me, history check.
Speaker 4:History check. Yeah, monks, traditionally very good at history, very good at history. That's an 11 plus zero for 11.
Speaker 2:So you have heard that Golpha is very.
Speaker 3:I just want to say this I would like to cast my guidance so with a flick of a finger. I would like to cast my guidance with a flick of a finger. I will allow you to add a 1d4 to an ability check.
Speaker 4:That's a 15 now.
Speaker 2:Okay, all right. So you know that Golfe is very business oriented and if somebody tries to sidestep his process or his business, he is going to come at you with everything he's got. He is not above hurting family members, or why are you thumbsing up me?
Speaker 4:it's not you, it's maddie. I was thinking maddie for his assistance, but he was eating popcorn or something.
Speaker 3:So okay, I thought you were thumbsing up the fact that I spilled my popcorn okay my slap uh. So yeah, golfa is not above going after family members, going after loved ones.
Speaker 2:Thumbs up the fact that I spilled my popcorn all over my lap. So yeah, golpha is not above going after family members, going after loved ones, anything to get his money back. If you take money from him, he expects you to pay it back and he'll get it from you either through monetary or through flesh. He will take money or flesh.
Speaker 4:Nice.
Speaker 5:That's scary, but he's not very intelligent as far as destroying somebody's ability to make money.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he's a bugbear.
Speaker 3:He's a bugbear, he's got a big one.
Speaker 4:I expected something better from a protector of the crown or whatever he is. No, he.
Speaker 2:That's a bugbear the crown Lord Mondur is is not? That's a bugbear. The crown the Lord Mondur is the protector. He's a human. He left already.
Speaker 4:He left? Was he just an agent? Oh, are there different people then?
Speaker 2:They were different people.
Speaker 4:Yeah, when you give us these names.
Speaker 1:Do me a favor and just like type them somewhere, yeah, yeah, yeah, in chat or something, so that I can, so that we're consistent at least.
Speaker 2:Yep, I'm sorry, who the fuck we're talking about? I'll be better about that.
Speaker 4:That's probably my confusion too, because I thought that the bugbear was the crown dude, who also left.
Speaker 5:We've had four NPCs named so far.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you're going fast enough that it's hard to keep up with all these names.
Speaker 2:Four NPCs and three locations yes, combined with the five of us and one major historical event.
Speaker 5:Okay, and a mythical creature.
Speaker 1:Yep and a partridge in a pear tree.
Speaker 3:I just opened the chat and saw that we're alphabetized Hilarious, Okay. I just put that in the chat and saw that we're alphabetized Hilarious.
Speaker 2:Okay, I just put that in the chat. Lord, mondur and Golpha.
Speaker 1:Thank you.
Speaker 4:Okay, cool. So Lord Mondur turned down the feather and left, and Golpha is now here pressing on our little halfling friend Raffolk, because he owes Gopher some amount of debt.
Speaker 2:Yes, that is correct, okay.
Speaker 4:So could we get any kind of read on how like Gopher and Mondor are kind of related or like what their relationship is? Were they friendly Like was Mondor grudgingly working with Gopher, or is it kind of related or like what their relationship is? Were they friendly like was monitor grudgingly working with gopher? Is it kind of a common, easy feeling with them?
Speaker 2:they weren't here at the same time. Yes, so the guard I did explain that the lord walked out right and then you did. Okay, yeah, I'm making sure I didn't miss that I blended.
Speaker 4:I blended npcs. I don't know who anybody is, yet I think I just okay, he barely knows his own name.
Speaker 2:Dude, that's fair, I'm a bad boy, I know. I know this is a lot of information, guys. Please bear with me, it will all make sense I believe you, I'm excited and I'll be better about putting that information in our chat as well. I I'm I may berecting from my prep for the first campaign that we did, and we're actually recording this time, so you know that's a win.
Speaker 3:That's a big step up in the right direction.
Speaker 5:Are we recording your voice too?
Speaker 6:Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Speaker 5:Okay.
Speaker 6:Oh shit, I paused Greg, no, no.
Speaker 1:Hey, that was a great dry run, let's uh take it from the top.
Speaker 2:Do it even better this time, okay. Does that answer your question, justin? Yes, all right, all right. So raffle continues.
Speaker 2:To tell us, uh, to tell you, you know yeah my family had two of these feathers and it's from the same kodal. My grandmother has one of them and Granny she doesn't know I took this one, but I owe some serious gold pieces and I thought that if I could sell this off, that I would have enough to make sure that Granny and I had a nice place to live and everything. I just I did too much and now I'm regretting it. I don't know this is a lot to ask, but is there any way you could come with me to go talk to Granny? I mean you, I don't want to see her by myself. She scares the hell out of me. I'm not going to lie here, guys Quill will kind of look around in confusion.
Speaker 1:I'm sorry you're talking about your own grandmother.
Speaker 2:Yeah, she's fucking scary guys. Alright, so here's the deal, right? My thought is that if we can convince her to give us the other feather, maybe, maybe I can pay off my debt and I'll give you the other feather and then you can sell that and you can make a profit off of it.
Speaker 4:Do you know what lord maunder wanted the feather for?
Speaker 2:he's a collector of of ancient artifacts. He he was willing to buy it for 450, but I couldn't go below 500. But now I'm desperate. So maybe if we sell, we buy granny's feather from her. I can give you the feather, you can go go to Lord Mondor and sell it to him.
Speaker 4:Hmm, I suppose that's not a bad option. He kind of looks around at the other guys to see what they're thinking.
Speaker 1:And just so we're clear here you owe that guy money and he burned your feather so that you can't pay him back anymore. I'm sorry, I'm sure you look't pay him back anymore.
Speaker 2:I'm sorry. I'm sure you look like a very bright individual. That was a bugbear he's not really known for. You know intelligence.
Speaker 1:Doesn't he run a casino?
Speaker 2:He is the proprietor, but he doesn't really run it.
Speaker 1:I guess I don't know what proprietor means then.
Speaker 2:I mean he's the owner right, run it. I guess I don't know what proprietor means. Then I mean he's the owner right, but like he doesn't, run it. He's got other people for that.
Speaker 5:So your plan here Okay, let me change. So your plan here is to take a feather that you've already lost one of, try to sell that one to get money. So you're going to leave your family with none of your artifacts and you want us to somehow go with you to talk to your grandmother about this.
Speaker 2:What good is an heirloom if we're looking for food every single day? So?
Speaker 5:have you thought of getting a job?
Speaker 2:Sounds like a lot of work.
Speaker 3:Maybe you should tell a child.
Speaker 6:I'm more interested in understanding how you got a 200 gold marker without any sort of collateral.
Speaker 2:I did have collateral. It's the house, but I really don't want to make you know Franny homeless.
Speaker 3:So you used the house that isn't yours, as I think, if you explain this to Granny, that she's either going to lose her heirloom or her feather, she will choose appropriately.
Speaker 2:Listen, you all look like very decent folks. I know my request might sound crazy, but trust me, there's no other choice here. Can you please help a halfling in trouble Please? I'm in a pretty dire situation here, guys.
Speaker 5:So Zane, at the mention of you, look like pretty decent folks. Looks down at his black studded leather armor and spikes Sure Decent fellow.
Speaker 4:Maybe I don't understand exactly what it is that you're asking for from us. Could you lay it out?
Speaker 2:Okay, here's my thought. We go to Granny, we buy the feather from her. We take that feather and go sell it to Lord Mondur. He's willing to give me 450 gold pieces for it. So we buy the feather. I've got the debt from buying the feather from Granny so I can pay off Golpha. You guys take the feather, go give it to Lord Mondor. You guys get 450 gold pieces. Granny's gonna ask for 250. That's 200 gold pieces that you're gonna net. Doesn't this leave him not getting anything out of this deal.
Speaker 3:At least a halfling with nothing.
Speaker 6:My friend, I've run this scam before. I will not be buying your feather to sell to someone whom I do not have a contract with and I do not already have the money in escrow. I'm sorry, but your plan is flawed. Find some other putts.
Speaker 5:Can't we just kill this bugbear?
Speaker 6:We are more adept at dealing with Gulfo than we are dealing with this grandmother.
Speaker 1:Quill agrees yeah, I'd like to knock him down a peg or two. And then he puts his hand over the top of his mug of ale and you hear slurping from inside of his helmet.
Speaker 4:Straw from inside of his helmet.
Speaker 1:He's got a straw.
Speaker 5:So how favorably is the city look upon this gambling establishment?
Speaker 2:Favorably look upon this gambling establishment? Uh, favorably. Um, I mean, you all know that this, this lucky or this, um, this triple nine is. It's not favorably looked upon. But the guards tend to look away in the other direction because of the amount of money it brings into the city. Brings a lot of money. Uh, golfa pays the city very well to look the other way and most people are okay with it because they don't do any kind of outright crime per se, per se so what were the likelihood, based on what we know?
Speaker 5:I mean, that was probably Zane's first exposure to the bugbear, yeah Gopher, yeah Gopher. So he probably doesn't know anything about it, but would he think that he could convince Gopher that it is in Gopher's best interest to kind of forget about that debt?
Speaker 2:debt. So zane knows that zelvax nelvax nelvax is the only one at this table that really knows anything about golfa so you can talk to him about it.
Speaker 5:Okay. So zane will look at nelvax and say, so do you think we could convince him to kind of forgive this debt? I mean, I can be a pretty convincing person.
Speaker 4:Well, you know, I can be pretty convincing too, but the question is why? So we're talking under our breath, I assume, like we're like sidebar, like behind our hands doing you know like Yep, why at least nobody else can really hear us, unless they're like super perceptive or something.
Speaker 2:Ratfolk is completely memorized by Quill drinking from his hand. Right now he's not paying attention to anything you all are saying.
Speaker 5:How about mesmerized?
Speaker 2:What did I say?
Speaker 5:Memorized.
Speaker 2:No, he's remembering every single moment of this interaction, every gurgle of that moment, every fucking gurgle, fuck you guys.
Speaker 4:I didn't say it. I only tacked on.
Speaker 1:For real, though. Like am I crazy, or does this just not make any sense?
Speaker 2:Right, it's a little weird.
Speaker 1:Are we just focusing on the wrong things here?
Speaker 5:We're probably focusing on the wrong thing.
Speaker 4:No, I guess.
Speaker 2:You guys are good.
Speaker 4:Novaks is not Robin Hood.
Speaker 2:Okay, so side table real quick. This is our sidebar. Whatever you want to say, I have this going one of two ways. Either one, you go to the grandma's house. Two, you go after golfa okay so we'll choose option three yeah yeah, no, facts isn't super interesting.
Speaker 4:This doesn't sound lucrative, uh, so I guess what what novix is going to try to convey back towards? Uh, let me just make sure I have one second. I have my notes over here. Back to Zane is uh, in in the like. The gist of it is the bugbear is not gonna like move on his position. They, they owe him money.
Speaker 4:Um, we have no horse in this race. I'm not really sure why we should care. It doesn't seem like we can really profit, it doesn't? It doesn't make sense from Nelvax's perspective, like why we should really get involved besides, like make this guy feel better, like make him forget his woes, like maybe if he sweetened the deal a little bit, like Nelvax might be interested in partaking, but as it stands, like there's no way for him to benefit from this, and so I guess what he'll say back is bugbears aren't bugbears, aren't bugbears aren't really well known for changing their minds and dollars. Excuse me, gold owed is gold owed. I don't think we can change that and I don't know that we have an angle here well, maybe, maybe we could take over his establishment and you can party there for free, golfa you think we could take over the triple nines now?
Speaker 4:that would be nice. I don't think we can do it with just one feather.
Speaker 5:Uh, no, who's talking about feathers?
Speaker 4:I was talking about removing golpha, You're pulling towards the halfling. Who's been talking about a feather?
Speaker 5:Oh well, that plan's kind of garbage.
Speaker 4:But are you familiar with the Triple Nines? Uh, their facilities, Uh no, I know people, though.
Speaker 5:Actually, I probably wouldn't be familiar with the triple nines, their facilities. No, I know people, though Actually I probably wouldn't be familiar with it. He's part of the underworld, so I've heard rumors. I know a little bit about it.
Speaker 4:Well, I can tell you, I've sampled it a time or two and it is a nice establishment. It is well-maintained. It is well maintained, it is. He looks up to the ceiling for a minute while he thinks for the right word to say. He says it is a secure establishment where everyone should feel safe.
Speaker 5:If you can catch my drift, I think I understand, so I don't really know how we can help this person.
Speaker 2:Brandon, do you have something Just to oh?
Speaker 1:okay, waiting for my turn. I'll speak up a little bit. Oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4:Once you say that I'll speak up a little bit, I'll drop my hand. So I'm speaking towards the table a little bit. I think we could help, but I don't know that our efforts would be repaid sufficiently.
Speaker 2:Yeah, rathfolk will speak up. At that point He'll say but I don't know that our efforts would be repaid sufficiently. Yeah, rathfolk will speak up. At that point He'll say I'm willing. I almost went, freaking somebody else, I almost went, somebody else, I'm willing. What else do you all need to sweeten the pot here?
Speaker 1:So what is? I was curious what Brandon was wanting to say. Oh yeah, uh, quill will say uh, you know, indicate that he's, he's willing to go in there and and talk to golfa, because it is kind of up that the guy just burned up what apparently is a 600 gold feather, or at least 450. 450. And just walked out. So in my mind, golpha owes Rafakir at least 450. And so give us the extra 250, we'll call the deck cleared, right, right, golpha, we all like this. It's a good deal for everyone, and so that's the sort of thing that Quill will explain.
Speaker 4:Just not many words. Yeah, Novak supports the figure at Quill and says like now, that's a business model I can get behind, but I think Amnod's in agreement, not saying anything, but he agrees to the logic. He gestures back to our halfling friend and he says but just, I'm not really sure what you're asking us to do. I don't see how that benefits us.
Speaker 2:Ratholc looks absolutely terrified with the mention of you taking on Golpha directly.
Speaker 4:We don't, we're concerned.
Speaker 2:But he says to you all if you think you can get him off of me, that's really what it is At the end of the day. I want to make sure Granny has her house and I have my legs they're so small.
Speaker 5:Yeah, I want to point out that I was thinking in a different character's mind and thought you have legs, but that's not my character.
Speaker 3:There's not a lot of legs here, guys.
Speaker 2:I want to keep what I've got.
Speaker 1:Well, I think being able to strike your debt from the books and walk away to find some other way to make money is about as good as you're going to get.
Speaker 2:I'm good with that. Do you guys? Do you still want the feather you should?
Speaker 1:probably stop trying to give away your grandmother's feather. That's kind of fucked up.
Speaker 4:Does she know you're trying to swindle her?
Speaker 2:Trust me, she's not going to get swindled, she's going to get her money.
Speaker 4:Okay, so let me cut this straight. Let me just recap to make sure we're on the same page. You're looking to get some help to get out from under Golpha and give us the feather, and who does Golopher work for? What kind of outfall would it be from resolving this for you? I'm not sure that we really have a full picture of what's going on.
Speaker 2:Gopher doesn't work for anybody.
Speaker 1:Gopher's the top. He owns his own casino.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he owns his own casino.
Speaker 3:And just does what he wants. That's slightly protected by the government in this area or the authority in this area.
Speaker 4:My mistake. I assume there's somebody above Bugbear in the business model.
Speaker 2:No, he owns it.
Speaker 4:There's a gleam of profit now in Nelvax's eyes.
Speaker 3:Just a slight one. This seems like a challenge that we would be worth taking on. I'm all for it, friends.
Speaker 1:Yeah we're all dead. Yeah, I bet I could take that bug there we could go off your back.
Speaker 4:You give us a feather, and then what exactly?
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, if my debts are cleared, I don't really, I guess I'll go. And he looks over towards Zane and he says I guess I'll go and get a job.
Speaker 4:That sounds awful.
Speaker 2:I was like God, I can't believe it.
Speaker 3:Out there someplace in a small area that needs cleaning. You'd be perfect for the job.
Speaker 5:So just as a baseline, like, what does a halfling and a family of seven or whatever you said? What does that actually cost? My frame of reference is like a few gold pieces a year is what a commoner spends on food Comfortable is like five silver a week or something right.
Speaker 2:Five silver a week is comfortable.
Speaker 4:So we're, talking.
Speaker 5:That's comfortable for adventurers For a month. Commoners. I thought it was like If a commoner would have like A rich commoner would have a couple of gold pieces.
Speaker 4:I think like five gold a year is probably reasonable.
Speaker 1:But I haven't mapped it out when you're 200 gold and dead. So this guy just lost.
Speaker 4:That's a lot.
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 6:He basically just leveraged.
Speaker 5:He just leveraged here. He just leveraged a five years or whatever worth of freaking income.
Speaker 2:The average commoner makes between 15 and 20 gold pieces a year 10 years worth, okay.
Speaker 4:so knowing that, I don't know if you guys want to speak up or if you want to let Nelvax take the lead on this. He's of the Thieves Guild. He's not a very good dude, but if you don't stop him, he will offer our services. Zane's okay with it.
Speaker 5:Yeah, Zane's okay with it. We all are familiar with Nelvax's leanings towards gaining money and I'm guessing that we're all okay with it yeah, daniel, daniel, uh, kind of say you know to to the group.
Speaker 3:He's like I am more than okay with going out and tried to extort about 600 gold pieces from this gulta. He clearly burnt up that feather he should pay for that.
Speaker 2:You went a little Monty there, yeah, it was a great accent.
Speaker 3:I told you your suit is like the persona.
Speaker 5:So I mean, because Zane's perspective is, as long as he feels like it's marginally fair, he's okay. I mean it doesn't have to be great. He's not going to go freaking, fight a dragon to save a damsel in distress or anything. He's not going to go kill somebody for money. That is a good person. Might do it to a bad person, but yeah, he's kind of very, very neutral.
Speaker 2:Okay, so what does the party want to do?
Speaker 4:So Nelvax now has like Eyes of Grandor At some point. I think maybe Dane mentioned or sorry, zane mentioned, zane, dane, I'm.
Speaker 2:Zaneane? I don't know, we have a Zane look, you guys are still gonna quill these are not planned.
Speaker 5:Zane I think my name on session zero.
Speaker 4:My name was set so Zane, Zane are jumping us again here. Zanar Warlock mentioned taking him out and then taking over the establishment, which seems like a pretty simple task, especially knowing that there's nobody above him. Like there's nobody really questioned who the boss is when somebody shows up. So whether we bully him into paying us some protection money to make sure that stuff like this doesn't happen, or just taking over right for him, that all seems above board. We can help this guy. We can clearly get some favor on our stead with the feather to like we give maybe Lord Mondor a discounted rate on the feather Once we we're going to have some something of a stable incoming coming from our triple nines. Like if we force him to start, either like we displace him or we start him paying us for our benefit, or like make that our headquarters. Whatever the case is, that's where nines is coming from, Novaks is kind of coming from. It's just that we could start our criminal empire right there, okay.
Speaker 3:Dan will kind of speak up and say whoa, whoa, whoa. I don't know if I'm really in the business of running casinos or or profiting from that, but I do believe a disservice was done here when he burnt up the feather. I think we could leave Granny's feather in her possession, simply retrieve the destroyed funds for the feather on behalf of our halfling friend. Paying off his debt and collecting the rest for ourselves Seems like a fair deal at the end of the day.
Speaker 3:So I'll have to say Dane, would like to not do anything with the grandma, go to Galta, like to not do anything with the grandma, go to gulta, force him and whatever needs necessary to pay for the feather that he destroyed.
Speaker 2:And then part of paying of that is clearing the dead at the halfling and then giving us the rest of the money rat folk looks at all of you very confused and he's getting agitated and he says, hey, hey, are you guys gonna help me?
Speaker 4:or not, we're working on it. Hold on now, little man.
Speaker 5:Yeah, we're just determining how we're going to help you. So if you bring us the feather, we'll take care of your debt.
Speaker 2:No, not giving you the feather until the debt's taken care of.
Speaker 1:But if we take care of the debt, don't we?
Speaker 2:You get the feather I mean as long as we get paid.
Speaker 6:I think we'll make sure that we get paid in the end. Yeah, guys.
Speaker 2:I'll show you where Granny's house is. I'm not trying to swindle you here.
Speaker 3:I'm trying to swindle Granny. You already stole one feather from her. Is that not enough?
Speaker 2:Stealing is such a strong word.
Speaker 1:I'd more like to consider it, bargaining, permanently borrowing and destroying.
Speaker 2:Okay, the destroying thing wasn't me.
Speaker 3:That's not fair. Well, I do believe a disservice was done here when the feather was destroyed and Golta should pay for that. Outside of that, I see no concern of mine.
Speaker 2:So you guys are going to go take care of Golfa.
Speaker 3:Golta.
Speaker 1:Golfa yes, I think we need to go have a conversation with golfa gg alpha listen, refolk uh, what kind of experience do you have uh running a gambling house?
Speaker 2:none, I'm 200 gold pieces in debt.
Speaker 6:I I think he's not good when it comes to gambling or anything inside a gambling house.
Speaker 5:I mean if we Zane says, if we get control of the triple nines, I can find somebody to run it.
Speaker 1:We can't even get out of this tavern.
Speaker 3:I don't know why you're talking about controlling a fucking casino Taking over a casino.
Speaker 2:And I know the question of this is do we gain a level? No, you didn't leave the fucking table.
Speaker 4:We went to the table. Come on, that's twice as many tables as we started with.
Speaker 3:Alright, guys, we should just leave this feather. There's really no point.
Speaker 4:Maybe we talk to Gopher and see just how he feels about this whole thing.
Speaker 3:I do believe we should have a conversation with Gopher.
Speaker 6:So it's settled. Xanover will get up and start walking towards the door.
Speaker 3:Dan will follow. Let's go and Raffolk's left in mystery.
Speaker 2:What the hell is happening here? You hear Raffolk's left in mystery. What the hell you hear Raffolk saying loudly to Riccio are they going to help?
Speaker 4:Like what did they?
Speaker 1:decide.
Speaker 4:As Novak's leads to Raffolk, raffolk's going to say we don't know either. Bud, we'll let you know when we find out.
Speaker 5:So Zane will just get up and follow Not say anything.
Speaker 2:Okay, all right, so you guys are going to the You're all going to the Triple Nine?
Speaker 4:Yeah, all right. I think Novak leads the way he knows going to the triple nine. Yeah, all right. I think novak's leads the way he knows how to get there.
Speaker 2:yeah, okay all right, so let's pull this up. Honestly, I don't know why. I didn't expect it, but I didn't expect you guys to go there this soon. I was expecting you to do other things first. Well, I mean, you just yelled at us for not leaving the table so we left the table to go to the casino soon.
Speaker 1:I was expecting you to do other things first. Well, I mean.
Speaker 5:You just yelled at us for not leaving the table, so we left the table to go to the casino. I mean.
Speaker 1:Oh, one thing I wanted to point out is that the reason I'm going for that, or using that voice with Quill is it's part of his disguise right Magical enchantment to make him sound different.
Speaker 2:Okay, I like it. I like how there's a lot of voices in here. Makes me happy.
Speaker 3:I'm trying really hard not to sound like Monty.
Speaker 2:I know I have my inspiration. Every time you speak, I hear it come out a little bit.
Speaker 5:So I'm trying not to sound like Glenn, but unfortunately, that's my voice.
Speaker 3:Glenn is your normal voice.
Speaker 2:That's just Bill's voice. I have a bet on the side with Andrew about how long it's going to take you to refer to just being Bill again.
Speaker 1:Being Glenn again, yeah.
Speaker 2:Bill equals Glenn yeah.
Speaker 1:Good point and I was going to say something similar.
Speaker 2:All right. So, yeah, nelvax, you know exactly where this place is. You're talking as you're leading the group over there and as you approach, it's about a 15-minute walk. As you approach, you see a towering structure. It's got gilded doors. You see lanterns flickering on the outside and they're changing colors to capture people's attention. And you see a magical sign that keeps changing shape depending on the viewer's desires. And you know this because your desires change all the time. They change very quickly and sometimes you see girls up there, sometimes you see different illegal substances, other times you just see gambling and just a party or booze. Um, you do see a, a large minotaur outside of the door. Um, a, very he's, he's extremely muscled and he's got a great sword slinged on his back, um, and stands guard and he's eyeing you as you approach.
Speaker 4:Am I familiar with this particular minotaur.
Speaker 2:Yes, you are Hell yeah.
Speaker 3:When Dane looks up at the sign, he wants to know what he sees.
Speaker 4:Hell yeah.
Speaker 3:Bag of dicks.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 4:You didn't know so many dicks could fit on a single side.
Speaker 3:Here, sir, is your plate of dicks.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Dane Dane, you see a large glass of whiskey.
Speaker 5:What does Zane see?
Speaker 3:Around the room.
Speaker 2:Zane, you just see a bunch of dice being thrown over and over again pictures of your mother jokes on you. I didn't know my mother all right, so uh, yeah, nelvax, you are very familiar with this Minotaur. You know he changed his name a long time ago and he now goes by Ferdinand Gamblehorn.
Speaker 4:Do I know him as Ferdinand Gamblehorn, or am I a little closer to him than that?
Speaker 2:Yeah, you call him Ferd for short.
Speaker 4:So I'll go up to him and I'll give him a fist bump. It's like, hey Ferd, Excuse me, hey Ferd, Excuse me, hey Ferd, How's it going? I give him a fist bump and I'll gesture over my shoulder.
Speaker 2:These guys here with me. He reaches his hand out very slowly, like he's afraid he's going to break you, and he says Novaks, and he eyes all of your companions as they walk past him.
Speaker 4:Oh, let's say, what do they call baby cows? Calflings? Is that what they're called? Calfs? Yes, yeah, calfs. Is that what a Minotaur offspring would be called? I don't really even know the right terminology.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, we'll say in this world yeah, minotaur Halfling are called calfs.
Speaker 4:I'll give them just enough time to keep them distracted while the team walks in.
Speaker 2:How's the calfling holding up?
Speaker 4:Oh Bullionaire Got his first horn the other day. First one, he's a little upside it then, yet he keeps falling to the right side. You never forget those precious moments.
Speaker 2:He's a cute one. I'll have to bring him by sometime.
Speaker 4:Oh man, I can't wait. Hey, I look around and notice that the guys have passed in already. Hey, I'll have to bring him by sometime. Oh man, I can't wait. Hey, I look around and notice that the guys have passed in already. Hey, I'll slap him on the shoulder. Hey, we got to catch up again soon. We got some business. Yeah, you still owe me a drink. Make it two and we'll call it square Deal, and then I'll follow my gang in. Okay.
Speaker 3:Apparently a baby Minotaur. In Greek mythology is called an asterisk. Really, the more you know.
Speaker 2:Okay, can you?
Speaker 4:tell us about the inside of the club.
Speaker 2:I can. So, yeah, you walk in and you can feel just the hum of activity around you. You hear some cheering, some groaning, just some groans of defeat. You hear some different coins being passed around and you can see that there is a VIP section with some higher nobles in there, but a lot of commoners are in there just throwing copper around. You can.
Speaker 2:The air is pretty thick with exotic perfumes, spiced wine, and there's in the far corner you can see what looks like a grand staircase with the velvet carpet that leads up to an upper balcony and over see, overlooking that balcony, you do see golfer there, um and uh in front of him, hanging over the entire uh front or through the entire grand entrance. You see this massive chandelier that's got flickering, shifting lights, and it does. It kind of mirrors the emotions of the room. Every time there's a groan, you see it turn like a dark green. Every time there's a cheer, it turns white and it just kind of helps with the emotions of the room. You also notice as you look around, there's no windows anywhere. The only entrance in or out is the door in front of you. That you can see. But as soon as you walk in, night or day. You just can't tell what it is. Do you have a question, nelvax?
Speaker 4:Yeah, I had a question about the overall feel. Like the way you described it, I could see it going like one of four ways. I'm just trying to make sure I have the right like mental image for this place. Is it like star wars cantina? Are we talking like modern strip club? We're talking like one thing in a frontier, like like weird magic, like lots of wood and like it's pretty run down and just scraping by or kind of like a semi-lush Louisiana-style steamboat cabaret All of those I feel like could fit from what you said.
Speaker 2:I'm trying to get a feel for what kind of yeah, so it's separated into a couple different areas, but it's definitely a well-off establishment. You can tell that there's money put into this establishment and there's a lot of money being thrown around. You can see that there's a gaming floor. They're playing Dragon's Dice. You can see a Deck of Fates card going on. There's even a roulette wheel with a big sign over it that says the gold wheel there and a couple other card games being played around. You can see an area called the Enchanted Arena that, nelvex, you know very well. That's where one-on-one fights take place without magic. It's typically a brawler's arena. People place bets on a specific fighter and if a champion wins, not only does the champion win big, but also the people that place bets on them. Then there's a high roller lounge up top where the VIPs are and where Golfa is. That's where the big money the gold, the platinum is spent. And then you know, specifically because you've been invited there, that there's a backroom area as well where more not-so-legal things happen.
Speaker 4:We don't talk about that though. Okay, so that with your expanded explanation, I feel it's more like uh, louis louisiana wrote feeling well, there's like a lot of big rooms, a lot of like smaller private spaces, there's a lot of like gaudy showmanship going on.
Speaker 1:They're showing off their wealth. Okay, I assume the golfer's pretty easy to spot.
Speaker 2:He's staring over the balcony. He seems to be paying attention to all the gaming and he sees the fights going on. He's just scanning the room Is there an obvious way up to him. There is a staircase. They've got two bouncers at the foot of the stairs.
Speaker 1:I'll kind of nudge Nelvax and be like that way.
Speaker 4:So Quill's in his armor currently, I presume yeah. So you nudge Nelvax, He'll give you a nod, tap you on the shoulder and just start walking that way. Are these guards also familiar to Nelvax?
Speaker 2:You know both of them. One of them is a Warforged who you've never been able to get a word out of, and another seems to be some kind of magic user. But the magic user you know, know, simply, is Ben Okay.
Speaker 4:So as I go up, I'll this staircase, are we talking like a big, like a dump sweeping, like grand staircase where it like comes up?
Speaker 2:to the balcony. It's a circular staircase that goes up.
Speaker 4:Okay, so is he all the way at the top of this thing? Yeah, he's at the balcony at the very top.
Speaker 2:Okay, so is he all the way at the top of this thing? Yeah, he's at the balcony at the very top.
Speaker 4:Okay, and that kind of opens up over the whole floor which shows the gambling rooms and the fighting pits. Okay, you mentioned the circular staircase. How many circles to the top of this? Three? There are three. Yes, Holy shit, that's a lot of stairs.
Speaker 1:How many individual steps would you say you can guesstimate?
Speaker 3:If there was a slinky falling down the stairs, how long would it take?
Speaker 2:There are 59 stairs according to 3D20s.
Speaker 4:That's an uncomfortable number for three stairs, that's fine, or three sets of stairs, that's no problem. So I walk up to the two guards and I'll give them my winningest smile and I'll say Secrets, how's it going? And I'll try to shake the horse's hands. I call him Secrets because he doesn't say anything to me.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the Warforged looks that he barely moves his head, but he doesn't say anything to me. Yeah, the Warforged looks at he barely moves his head, but he doesn't say anything.
Speaker 4:All right Talkie, as always, I see, and how's your night going? I'll turn my eyes to look at the other one Whose name I forgot.
Speaker 2:Ben Ben. It's the simplest name I've given you all night.
Speaker 1:I only got so many brain pockets the eleventh-est name you've given us all night and.
Speaker 4:I turn to Bane and I say, hey, and how is your night faring? Is it night time, oh, and here I don't know if it's night or day well, I can tell you, we just came from outside and it is the length time of day it's night.
Speaker 2:I mean, I was just joking about that. You just came from the outside.
Speaker 4:I smile at him.
Speaker 2:Oh it's one of those nights, Nilvax.
Speaker 4:Well, you know, every night's a night, if you know what I mean. Anyway, listen, we need to have a few words of gold. Would you mind letting us through?
Speaker 2:Listen, you know the rules as well as I do. You can't get up there without 200 gold pieces.
Speaker 4:Well, I do have 200 gold pieces.
Speaker 2:Oh Well, if you hand them to me, then yeah, you can go up.
Speaker 4:No, I just want to talk to Gullfond.
Speaker 2:No, all right, let me go see if Gov will let you talk to him.
Speaker 4:Okay, Mention the magic feather and he may feel a little differently about this whole thing.
Speaker 2:Magic feather. How much have you had tonight, Novaks?
Speaker 3:There was nothing magical about that feather, but I want to see where this goes. Play it out.
Speaker 4:You know Ben, not as much as it sounds like I've had.
Speaker 2:I'll go mention a magical feather. I'm sure I'm not going to get fired, not?
Speaker 5:magical.
Speaker 2:He starts walking up the stairs, the Warforged moves to the front, to the middle of the stairs, to block any kind of entrance.
Speaker 3:After Ben goes up, Does the Warforged look like we could take him? That's my first question. My second question is there any other ways that we appear? We could get potentially up to this balcony.
Speaker 2:If you can fly, yeah, if you can fly or jump up there.
Speaker 3:How high is it?
Speaker 4:50 feet, 59 steps 59 rotary steps to be specific.
Speaker 6:Yeah, but the code is only a 7-inch rise.
Speaker 1:What's code like in Dnd times?
Speaker 2:I don't know more like a ladder than a staircase I hate you guys so much like I could not have played this out anymore straight path I'm trying, I'm doing the thing in your head.
Speaker 3:It's straight line for us we're like a dog on a walk, like we're all over the place okay we're still going in a straight line sure?
Speaker 2:uh, yeah, the only other way ups are the. If you could fly up or jump up onto the balcony man, I can't wait till I can run up walls.
Speaker 4:That's so good.
Speaker 2:Ben comes down and Golpha is behind him.
Speaker 4:Yeah, golpha, I knew you'd be interested.
Speaker 2:Maybe we could have a few words in private. Nelvax, or sorry, not Nelvax Golpha nods to you all and he nods to the Warforged to come with him and him, the Warforged start walking towards one of the back rooms, the mailbox falls list up.
Speaker 3:Yeah, this is going great five, verse two I like our odds easy peasy again.
Speaker 1:We are just talking to them, right guys?
Speaker 6:right, right, right, of course right.
Speaker 2:So we've done so far as you, as you've walked into the, as you walk into the back rooms area, you see three other uh what could only be described as fighters in the hall. And then he points to the first back room and you walk in and it it looks like, uh, a cushy conference room. It's got a couple of couches there, a couple of chairs, and he sits down at the head of the room with the war forge standing directly behind him.
Speaker 3:Jane will stand at the door, okay.
Speaker 4:So can you tell us about the room we've walked into?
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, so it is a little dim. I mean, yeah, yeah, so it is a little dim. I mean this room is not meant to do anything other than illegal things, but uh, it's a little dim and uh, there, there are two couches in there that could sit three people comfortably each. There are a couple. There are four individual chairs in this room. It's one of the larger back rooms. It's meant for more of a uh, a host party, if you will. Um, we're an orgy and uh, golpha has taken one of those chairs at the very front and is sitting in front of it or sitting on it.
Speaker 3:Sorry, just just to clarify danis, inside the room but standing blocking the door understood okay, so you said it's good for an orgy, so there's like a big block of ice.
Speaker 2:I don't get that joke. Don't don't engage, don't do it, yeah, don't acknowledge it. We have to move past it if you look at directly in the face like it's gonna uh zaniver, uh, about how big across is this room? Uh, it is. I mean it's a. It's a large enough room. It's probably uh, 15 by 15. It's a big orgy.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's a big orgy okay, or it's an orgy for large creatures.
Speaker 6:There are minotaurs, that's true, yeah, but they're medium creatures so you didn't answer somebody's question.
Speaker 5:Can we take the war forged?
Speaker 2:you know what roll me? A history check. I asked the question so yeah, roll me a history check, dean.
Speaker 3:Wow, actually pretty good this.
Speaker 5:I got a 17 cuz you told me to roll I meant.
Speaker 2:meant, dane, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3:Oops, I was looking at the wrong characters page. I'll roll that and then go ahead and use my cantrip of guidance.
Speaker 2:So you got a 0? Is that what I see here?
Speaker 3:I definitely got a 0. But I get to add a 1d4 to it. Perfect.
Speaker 4:Can I cast Guidance on somebody who's rolling Three?
Speaker 2:I think he's already using Guidance. You can't stack Guidances.
Speaker 4:Is everybody using Guidance? Is there just one roll? Actually, I can't use Guidance.
Speaker 3:I touch a willing creature. Can I touch myself?
Speaker 2:Yeah, you can touch yourself. Yes, you can touch yourself.
Speaker 6:You can touch yourself.
Speaker 3:I got a three on that one Critical fail.
Speaker 2:Dane, you don't even remember any time you've seen a Warforged before walking into this building. Beep, boop, bop.
Speaker 4:Beep boop, boop.
Speaker 2:Once this thing started moving, it scared you Holy shit.
Speaker 3:Slot machines are coming out of the walls. Oh no.
Speaker 4:How many coins are you trying to slip in this thing's armor? Yanking on his arm trying to pull the? Oh man, Okay, you continue.
Speaker 3:Okay, yeah.
Speaker 2:Okay, do continue. Okay, yeah, gopher looks at you, novaks, and he says what Sorry, what can I do for you?
Speaker 4:Novaks. Well, I think we might have some business to conduct. And then I'll pull another one of the single-seater chairs over and sit across from him, facing him. There's no table right. He's just sitting directly in front chairs over and sit across from him facing him.
Speaker 5:Okay, there's no table right, he's just sitting directly in front of him.
Speaker 2:Yeah, directly in front of him, kind of a little uncomfy.
Speaker 4:Yeah, nice, it's power play.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 3:You sit in the chair backwards or forwards?
Speaker 2:Golfa very casually crosses his right leg over his left and while exposing everything underneath, and he says, he says and what business would that be?
Speaker 4:The business of profits, of course. What other business is there?
Speaker 2:I'm doing very well. I don't think I need your help on this one, Nilfax.
Speaker 1:Quill will butt in. Can we cut to the chase?
Speaker 6:here We've been contracted, new York.
Speaker 1:No, that's hey. Can we cut to the fucking chase?
Speaker 5:Hey, can we cut?
Speaker 1:to the chase here.
Speaker 4:Want to lay it or not.
Speaker 1:We've been hired on by that halfling to deal with this feather situation, and we wanted to talk it through first. What feather? Rafik told us he owed you 200 gold, and then you burned his feather, which is worth more than that. So in the eyes of the law, I think we can all agree. The right thing to do here is to clear his debt because you burned his feather, and then give us the 250 gold difference as our payment, and then we'll be out of your hair gopher raises one eyebrow and he starts laughing at you.
Speaker 2:Oh, that's a pretty good joke there. Wait, oh, you're serious. You want me to pay you for a debt someone owes me.
Speaker 1:You burned the feather, though that was the grievance here. I don't care about a feather, but the feather was important. Why so? Because the DM told us it was a special feather and now. I'm explaining how it's a special feather to this NPC and I feel a little foolish.
Speaker 2:So just to be very clear, golfa had no idea what this feather was, didn't understand what it was, didn't care. He knocked the lantern down, burned something of Rav Fog's Great.
Speaker 5:Make a point. So I got a question Do we know that the feather was valuable? I guess we should have asked this before.
Speaker 1:We know that the it was established with the conversation that it was valuable yeah.
Speaker 4:Lord Mondor after a feather he's willing to pay hundreds of gold for it. So we know it's. Okay, we got that much at least.
Speaker 3:We know it's worth 200 of a debt and 250 additional.
Speaker 5:Okay. Okay. So All right, we know it's worth 200 of a debt and 250 additional. Okay, so Zane will say so. You think it's acceptable behavior to destroy somebody else's property because you think you're a badass or something?
Speaker 2:I think if somebody owes me money, I'm gonna get my money uh, by destroying their ability to get said money dane uh dane in the back of the room.
Speaker 3:Uh, he pulls out his mace and starts slapping his mace from one hand to the other with a big grin on his face. Well, I like the way this conversation is going. It's easy. He's trying to intimidate, but he's also very happy that we're about to start a fight yeah, roll me an intimidation, check dane is dane actually good at that? Before I try to intimidate I should.
Speaker 5:I don't know, it's probably better, but do it when I think about you, I touch myself.
Speaker 3:I'm gonna add a plus four to that one is he within reach of me? I can. Can I get guidance on him?
Speaker 2:I can just do guidance on myself uh, you're sitting right in front of yourself. Yes, you can give guidance on yourself oh, we said we can.
Speaker 3:I thought you could, yeah, remember when I think about you, I touch myself.
Speaker 2:I got a 12. Can Zane assist or not Only? Oh, you mean assist on top of the guidance?
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Like just your normal assist.
Speaker 5:How do?
Speaker 2:you do that.
Speaker 5:What are your rules for assistance? Do you need assistance?
Speaker 6:Andrew, unless you know off the top of your head, assistance for 2024 rules it's whatever narratively fits right. So if he's gonna chip in with a additional piece of intimidating information, like turning the eyes of the tower upon the, the gambling hall or something, I think he says mechanically, does it give him a plus number or advantage it gives? Advantage mechanically, just like it did in 5EOG. I haven't read the rules yet. I'm very sad. It's the health action still.
Speaker 2:Okay, all right then. Yeah, if somebody else is trying to assist and they're using an intimidate kind of feature, I'm down with it.
Speaker 5:Cool, okay. So Zaneane, in backing up uh, dane, uh will say yeah. While generally your establishment is looked upon favorably, I don't necessarily think an heirloom's destruction would be very favorable. Looked favorably upon by the tower as these voices getting deeper and more growly.
Speaker 2:Alright, give me an intimidation. Roll at advantage there, Dane. So you rolled an 11?.
Speaker 3:Yeah, actually we'll probably just take the first one, which is going to be a 19. Okay, so plus 1, I get a 22 in total.
Speaker 2:That's good, All right. So Gulfa seems to come down a little bit but he says to you all right, I can't just forgive my debt here. He borrowed money from my establishment. I'm sure you could all see that that could come back on me unfavorably.
Speaker 3:Well then, I believe you purchased a feather for 450 gold pieces.
Speaker 2:I'll tell you what I'm willing to deal with you all. If you bring me the halfling, I'll wipe the debt and I'll give you 500 gold pieces.
Speaker 5:Why do you need the halfling?
Speaker 2:I always get what's owed to me.
Speaker 1:You're just going to make him work for you, right?
Speaker 2:He will work.
Speaker 6:So Xanathar will speak up and say 500 gold pieces does sound enticing, but I suggest and cast suggestion as he speaks that when you have your hands on the halfling you do not cast any ill will towards him and release him safely back in the custody of his grandmother. It's a DC 16 wisdom save Alright, I've got a fate worse than death.
Speaker 3:Sending you back to your grandma.
Speaker 1:What is that? Oh, a 16. 16.
Speaker 2:So does it say that you know the outcome or not?
Speaker 6:uh, it does not okay, so where the other?
Speaker 2:yeah, golfer says to you of course I, I wouldn't ever dream of hurting the little one does dane believe him give? Me an insight check. It's like does anybody believe him Give?
Speaker 5:me an insight check. It's like does anybody believe him?
Speaker 2:I mean all of you give me insight, that's fine.
Speaker 3:The freaking rolls here.
Speaker 6:I mean, I guess the question would be since it's a concentration spell, would I be able to tell that I'm not concentrating on an effect?
Speaker 2:that. No, you feel a fizzle out. Okay, I didn't realize it was concentration that's on me.
Speaker 4:Yeah, 11 from Nelvex 11 from Dane 13 from Zane 9 from Mane.
Speaker 3:I really don't want to go fetch this halfling, but I think we're going to have to. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Xaniver, even though you feel the spell kind of fizzle out. You look at his face and maybe it's the stoic presence of his warden behind him, but you tend to believe him and the rest of you believe what he says Crap.
Speaker 3:Well, let us go get this halfling for you. We'll be right back Massa.
Speaker 4:I'm not sure that's the best course of action. What did you have in mind? Certainly, there must be a better alternative. I think. I believe that that's what Gullford thinks is the best course of action, but I don't think that Nelvax agrees with him or like is Gullford that the giving up, the exchange of money is one thing, but giving up a person is like?
Speaker 1:that's what I was thinking like. What would Gullford do? What?
Speaker 3:would giving up a person where you believe no ill fate will happen to that person doesn't seem like a bad, so what would?
Speaker 2:dm perspective. I'm trying to, I'm trying to gather what your characters are like right now. So this is just me getting information, so I don don't.
Speaker 5:I mean Zane can't connect the dots that say why would he give us 500 gold pieces except the halfling and nothing bad can happen. There's no dots. That I mean yeah, I could believe him all day long, but there's nothing that adds up.
Speaker 4:Yeah, nelvax is kind of a mercenary dude, but not like mercenary, like selling people into slavery, mercenary, like that's not really the kind of job that he's into. Yeah, so I'm, which is how that feels.
Speaker 5:There's no trigger points being hit for zane, but he doesn't necessarily believe that it's a good idea to, I think his sense of fairness is that he should this the hell's his name, golfa. Golfa should pay the freaking halfling for the thing that he destroyed yeah, I think that's kind of where dane's at too.
Speaker 3:He doesn't. He doesn't think that this new deal supersedes the right thing to do, which is gullful repaying for the destroyed feather uh, maybe we can sweeten the deal.
Speaker 1:uh, quill will suggest that. Uh, perhaps there's some other minor thing that we could do to help you out, and then, having done that, you accept the deal and we all part ways Okay.
Speaker 2:All right, I like how you think there. Quill oh, I don't know your name.
Speaker 1:I like how you think there strange creature.
Speaker 5:It's you, I like you.
Speaker 2:It's you, I like you.
Speaker 5:It's floating above his head.
Speaker 6:Yeah, of course.
Speaker 2:Alright well if you're willing to do me a favor, then maybe we'll call it even Something worth 200 gold pieces.
Speaker 4:I don't know what kind of favor might that be?
Speaker 5:Don't kill somebody that you care about. No, that wouldn't go.
Speaker 2:Never mind, oh, okay. I was like all right, let's roll for some initiative. He said well, I've heard that there's been a certain captain that's been prying into my businesses a little bit. Maybe you can visit him and convince him to leave me alone.
Speaker 4:Captain of what exactly?
Speaker 2:I'm sure you know him, Lord Mondor.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I was like oh okay, uh Quill will say you have to understand, you got five of the finest adventurers in this town that I definitely know the name of we too, have a reputation to uphold. If it's gonna tarnish that, then we're going to have to find something else that will suffice.
Speaker 3:I don't fancy the idea of going against a protector of the crown, so you can count me out.
Speaker 5:Or hear me out, no or we can just go talk to the captain, because the captain was wanting that feather that you burned and I don't know. Maybe we let him know what's going on here and that you burned the feather Seems quite nice.
Speaker 4:And I'm trying to intimidate as well uh, I'll just gesture uh towards zane dane towards zane no towards zane I'll dress you towards zane as if he has a very good point I mean one's got an eye the other't, I don't see how confusing this could be.
Speaker 2:I know Zane Dane Xaniver.
Speaker 4:I'll figure it out.
Speaker 2:All right, sure, give me an intimidation. Oh Jesus, fucking Christ.
Speaker 3:Her role's a bit crap.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Golva says all right, go ahead. I guess All right, I don't know how it's gonna work out for you.
Speaker 5:So, from what we know about the kingdom, how well do they like people destroying other people's stuff?
Speaker 2:Oh, there's definitely punishment for it, Like pretty severe, depending on how much it's worth.
Speaker 1:Especially what if it's a famous Kulta feather Coatl Qu. Famous Kulta feather Coatl Quetzalcoatlus feather.
Speaker 5:Quetzalcoatlus, I think, knowing that this Captain Lord guy was interested in this feather and was willing to pay 450, him finding out that the guy destroyed it and is not willing to make any kind of make good on it, I think the captain would be not happy. Okay, are we the type?
Speaker 3:of characters that are going to care to do that, or just take care of it ourselves.
Speaker 5:I don't really have a good feel on whether or not we can take them.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 4:I've got nothing. I think my read on us so far is that we're generally above board and we'll definitely take it below the belt if we have to. But I think in this case we can play dumb and call this bugbear's bluff and he might back out, Withdraw from that, from like the legal obligations for this expensive feather, especially if we go right to the source, from this royalty. Who's actually looking for this thing?
Speaker 4:and looking for him novaks is interested, like novaks would know that necessarily. But I think that this guy just said go ahead and try. I'm like, well, I don't want to. I don't really want to fight this dude for no reason, like as a gambler who frequents this establishment, I don't want to get kicked out or lose my privileges. Yeah, I kind of pulled some strings to get us this face time with with this bugbear dude. Awful, it would be definitely more profitable to run this in his stead. But if, if the right move long term is to go talk to the dude who actually gives a shit about this thing this feather, then I think Novaks is on board.
Speaker 3:Alright, then let's go talk to Lord Mondor and see what he has to say about this situation. Shall we my friends? And he opens the door behind him.
Speaker 4:Golfer, there's nothing to stop you. Novak stands up and offers his hand to Golfer. We appreciate your time, sir. We'll catch back up with you.
Speaker 2:Golfer stands up, makes a point to flatten his shirt a little bit, and then extends his hand and shakes it.
Speaker 4:I'll shake his hand ingenuously and then depart the room without a second thought. So to make sure I understand you guys, I'll shake his hand ingeniously and then depart the room without a second thought.
Speaker 2:Alright, so to make sure I understand, you guys are all going to see the Crown Warden Xaniver, lord Mondur.
Speaker 6:Yes. So as he's leaving, xaniver will point at Gulpha and cast a message saying be careful around fire. You never know when it's going to catch.
Speaker 1:And then walk out Some cold ass shit to say to somebody yeah, it is, Uh yeah.
Speaker 2:So, xenover, you see the bug bear's eyes widen and he looks around the room and he stares up at the uh, the war forge, like it came from him, or it.
Speaker 6:And I just walk out. Nothing happened.
Speaker 2:Alright, so I think that's where we're going to call it for the night. I know we did a lot of lore tonight and everything else, but it is midnight for the Eastern Time, guys, and we will start up our next session with the party.
Speaker 4:going to talk to crown warden, lord mondor how'd it go compared to your expectations there, brandon?
Speaker 2:uh, grandma, but we didn't do that, so you know, honestly, I saw one going one of two ways and you guys did go the third way, so like exactly how I always expected to go you mentioned having a specific number of episodes in mind for this campaign.
Speaker 4:How are we going to stick to that?
Speaker 2:I'm on there's no fucking way.
Speaker 4:But as long as we're all having fun, that's all that matters to me as long as our roles keep sucking, alright this is a very different character, but I'm enjoying him very much, so I want to say thank you to everybody for following us, liking us, giving us ideas on our new campaign. All right, this is a very different character and I'm enjoying him very much, thank you.

Speaker 4:He's got some cool stuff over there those are the boxes that are like magnetically connected, with different little compartments inside.
Speaker 1:Yeah, this is with different layers, like an ogre yeah, like an onion, yeah, yeah, and.
Speaker 2:And finally, andrew, for the first time you want to take us out uh, sure thing I.
Speaker 6:I think in session zero we talked about keeping the same outro right, so, uh, so it's 1030.
Speaker 3:That sounds like it's been Larry. It's been, larry has been our.
Speaker 6:It's been Larry. All right, it's been.
Speaker 3:Larry, like onions and odors.
Speaker 2:All right, it's been.
Speaker 4:It's been a day.
