Dingle, County Kerry Ireland: Cliffs of Moher, Cozy Pubs, Epic Food & a Distillery Tour
Brittany and Josh recap their favorite stop of their Ireland trip: Dingle in County Kerry, after driving from Clifden and stopping at the Cliffs of Moher in rainy but clearing weather. They describe meeting listener Amy, an American who moved to Ireland via family ties and discussed adjusting to Ireland’s slower work pace and the ease of cheap travel across Europe. They recount a tense night drive over Connor Pass, then rave about their stay at Heaton’s Guesthouse, especially its award-winning breakfasts. In Dingle they enjoy standout meals (Sunday roast, chili hake, seafood chowder, fish and chips), Murphy’s Ice Cream, local pubs (Dick Mack’s, Currans, Kennedy’s candlelit snug), coastal drives and beaches, a sheep-filled hike, and a Dingle Distillery tour with multiple whiskey tastings, concluding Dingle feels like a place they could live.

@WSMHtravels
Hello and welcome to the We Should Move Here Travels podcast. My name is Brittany.
joshI'm Josh
britand we are your hosts Today we are gonna be talking about Dingle, which was actually my favorite stop of the trip.
joshWas it really?
britYeah.
joshOh,
britI loved it here.
joshMm-hmm.
britYes. but on the way from Clifden to Dingle, we did stop at the Cliffs of Moher.
joshMm-hmm.
britWhich is a very popular tourist destination, and I can see why. I mean, there's these huge cliffs against the ocean and rocks and it's just, it's stunning. It's gorgeous.
joshYeah. Absolutely stunning. We did run into some weather, it was very cloudy, rainy sprinkly on the way there. Had a little bit trouble driving. Through the windy roads of Ireland. But
brityeah.
joshUh, once we got there, the weather decided to give us a break and the clouds broke up a little bit and we were able to see just enough of the cliffs to really make us love them.
britYeah, I got one picture that I'm just like obsessed with. I love it so much. We didn't even take the camera because it was so rainy.
joshMm-hmm.
britso this was just like taken on my phone, but it is stunning and it really captures like the beauty that we saw. These cliffs are just so dramatic. It's wild.
joshI would say we hit the lottery, being able to have two really nice days. Seeing the Slieve league when we did and then seeing the cliffs of more when we did.
britYeah.
joshI don't know if everyone is able to get nice days to see'em. You know, we only got a partial day to see the cliffs of Moher, but it was something to see.
britIt really was.
joshwe kind of had an action packed day'cause we left Clifden, went to the cliffs of Moher right away. Then we had plans to meet up with one of our listeners, Amy, who reached out to us on social media when we put a post out of anyone who lives there and maybe had moved there from the United States if they wanted to meet up for a drink or coffee just to talk about their experience.
brityeah, that was really great. I really enjoyed hearing her perspective of what it was like to move from the US to Ireland. Amy was able to get a pathway to citizenship due to her family ties. so it was pretty easy for her to become a citizen. And I think she has dual citizenship, is that correct?
joshI think so. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but yeah, I, I know it was easier than others for her to get it because of her grandparents or great grandparents, something like that.
britShe had talked a lot about what it was like to slow down.
joshMm-hmm.
britAnd that the US is such a, high stress kind of hustle and bustle work environment. And then in Ireland she had talked about being really slow paced and that it was difficult for her to adjust to it, but that it was a really great adjustment for her in the end.
joshSo, yeah, not only she said that, but several other people who had moved from the US to Ireland reached out to us and said very similar things, that it was a pretty big adjustment to go from the workaholic lifestyle that most of the US has to Ireland, where their bosses or their coworkers. I basically had to tell him like, it's not the end of the world.
britMm-hmm.
joshYou know, as long as you get it done within the timeframe specified, you're okay. Yeah. Don't stress out too much about it,
britbut everything here feels like the end of the world.
joshRight.
britI think that was a really interesting thing for us to be able to do is, meet up with someone that we don't know and, ask about their experience and what it was like. And I would wonder if you would wanna do that again.
joshOh, absolutely. And you and me actually bought microphones for interviewing people
britmm-hmm.
joshIn these situations. And we were just in a rush this day between the cliffs and getting to our next location and really wanted to. Just engage and be present with Amy, but I would absolutely love to set more of these up. Maybe in Portugal we can reach out and have a listener or someone cross our social media pages that happens to come across it.
britYeah. I think that could be a really interesting series that we could put out For like social media or things like that. And, it was just really inspiring to see and talk with Amy about, that move and the difference in lifestyle and, just how it's been so helpful for her to be in Ireland. I'm so happy for her.
joshYeah, me too. Yeah. Jealous and happy.
britYeah.
joshOne of the big things that she talked about that stuck out with me was also the ability to travel from Ireland across Europe.
britYeah.
joshAnd how inexpensive it was. I believe she was actually gonna be leaving the next day or one, the next two days to go to the uk, I think. And
brityeah, she was going to a concert
joshYeah.
britIn the uk and she was like, it was like 50 euro.
joshMm-hmm.
britFor the plane.
joshYeah. Round trip. Yes.
britWhat? Mm-hmm. That's so wild.
joshEven at being, uh. Really short flight. It's still 50 euro for that.
britYeah.
joshOh, you, you would never, never see that in the United States unless you're on a allegiant or a, a budget airline with very limited flights,
britYeah. But needless to say, it was awesome getting to meet her. I hope she's still doing well. and I'm really happy for her that she, found a place that feels like it fits for her.
joshSo after Meetup with Amy, we still had quite a bit of a drive to end up getting to our place at Dingle. And we had done our best so far in this trip to drive during the daylight, but because of some time crunches just had to drive in the dark. And this was one that maybe would've been a better idea to get during the daylight.
britYeah. I mean, you don't know that there's a giant cliff right next to you because you can't see it.
joshMm-hmm.
britwhat was it, Connor Pass?
joshYeah.
britWow. Driving in that in the daylight was like, holy shit, we did this at night.
joshYeah.
britThat was crazy.
joshNot sure how we did it. I know I had the brights on most of the way and there were not a ton of other cars that we passed, but it was still quite the experience.
britit was really beautiful. I would definitely recommend doing this drive, uh, even though it's a little scary, even in the daylight.
joshbut we made it. It is beautiful. Beautiful. During the daylight as well, Connor's pass, as well as a lot of roads around dingle, but
britmm-hmm.
joshonce, once we got into Dingle, we checked into our b and b heaton's guest house. This is a really nice b and b.
britWe loved this one. Mm-hmm. This was probably my favorite stay of the entire trip. I loved this one so much. It was so clean. it was on the water or shoreline kind of. Mm-hmm. So it felt kind of beachy. Yeah. Even though there's not a beach right there, but it, it kind of felt that way. Yeah. It was so close to the distillery.
joshYeah.
britand you could walk into town within like 10, 15 minutes.
joshYeah. Really convenient location. I'm surprised you say it's your favorite. If we, if we had to say our favorites from the b and bs'cause this is the last one on the trip, I would say Rusty Mackerel.
britOh yeah. Well, rusty Mackerel. Maybe I shouldn't say it's my favorite. Rusty mackerel and. Heaton are tied. Yeah, they're tied. I'll give them that. because the rusty mackerel was also just like incredible. Mm-hmm. But if we're counting Lough Rynn Castle too, I totally like spaced on that. Like, Lough Rynn Castle is gonna win. So.
joshVery true. wouldn't consider the castle of b and b though, but
britNo, no. but he, but as far
joshas a stay, it was a really nice stay.
britYes. Uh, but Heaton's guest house was incredible.
joshYeah.
britWe loved it. They had breakfast included. they had chocolate cake out every day. Mm-hmm. I think it was like in the afternoon between like two and six or something like that. Kinda
joshlike tea time cake, I think.
britOh my God. It was so good. It was like a Matilda cake, like the, the one that the kid eats. Mm-hmm. You've never seen Matilda. You gotta watch that movie. But, um,
joshyou've shown me pictures, so I'm, I'm well informed over Matilda cake is.
britIt was like that though. It was so delicious. And the breakfast options at Heaton's was really delicious as well.
joshYeah. Why don't we just go over what we had for breakfast throughout the stay here.
britSo we got the eggs Benedict.
joshMm-hmm.
britpancakes, which were amazing. a mushroom, tomato, and Swiss omelet.
joshDelicious.
britFrench toast. Uh, Mediterranean omelet. And then our last one, we got the eggs benedict again, and the pancakes again, because those were our favorite.
joshYeah.
britThey were so delicious. These pancakes were like perfectly cooked.
joshMm-hmm.
britThey came with a custard and sliced apples and they were amazing. They were so delicious. And then the egg benedict were also, those were really good as well. they came with like sauteed spinach and the hollande sauce on some small sourdough pieces, I believe.
joshYeah, absolutely delicious. I think when we were looking up B and B to stay in dingle. This one had won an award at some point
britmm-hmm.
joshFor having the best breakfast in Ireland. Not sure how long ago it was, but we saw that. Mm. Said, yeah. Yes, please. That's, that's a place we would like to stay. And it had great reviews. We'll definitely add one to it. Mm-hmm. Very clean, comfortable room, like you were saying. Very nice location, very easy to get around.
britYeah. We definitely appreciate a good breakfast. And this did not disappoint us.
joshbut we got there and our first night we decided to go to James Long gastro pub, similar to Clifden. Lots of places closed. It was not tourist season yet. Dingle is definitely a popular place for tourists.
britYeah. And I can see why. I would, I would really recommend coming here. If not for the scenery, the food, because every single place we ate at was incredible.
joshMm-hmm.
britAnd the drinks too. The local like pubs. Oh my God. It was such a vibe. But anyways, back to James Long. So we had a veggie burger with fries that came with like stacked onion rings on top.
joshMm-hmm.
britReally good. and we also had a Sunday roast.
joshDelicious
britthis roast. I was looking forward to a roast almost the entire trip. And this one was great.
joshIt was definitely something that you kept on saying we needed was a good roast.
britYeah. Well Ireland is just like ki that kind of vibe, you know, like you're
joshmeat and potatoes.
britYeah.
joshMm-hmm.
britYou need some like substance in your meals because you're walking around in the rain and Mm. You are cold and you want it to be warm and hearty and
joshYeah.
britYeah.
joshWant you to warm up your bones.
britYeah. Pretty much. And then we also got a brownie here. This brownie mm-hmm. Was covered in chocolate sauce. It was so good. But I remember sitting in the booth with you and we had so much fun, we split the G here.
joshMm-hmm.
britand we walked back to Heatons very, very full.
joshMm-hmm.
britBut it was so worth it.
joshDefinitely worth it.
britYeah.
joshthe entire time we were in Dingle, it was so relaxed.
britMm-hmm.
joshCompared to all of our other stops. I think we did go on a hike, which we did the next day, or at least we attempted to.
britNo, we did. I mean, we did basically half of the hike. Mm-hmm. So this hike was absolutely beautiful. It's right by the water and you get to watch the waves rolling in. I mean, the ocean view is huge at the top of this mountain, l, I guess you can say. It was so stunning. If you like a good ocean view, this will be the hike for you. It is so beautiful. there was sheep poop everywhere. Like everywhere.
joshYeah.
britAnd somebody may or may not have fallen in sheep poop.
joshIt was pretty slick. It was rainy as it usually is in Ireland. And you were just walking on a trail through a farmer's. Pasture, I guess. And it was pretty steep.
britYeah. There were points where you had to climb like a ladder to get over the fence.
joshYeah.
britSo that was really interesting. That was the first time I've done that. And uh, yeah, that first part was extremely steep. Yeah. and the part where you fell out was very, very steep. we got about to the halfway point. Mm-hmm. And then there was this herd of sheep. Most of them were kind of doing their own thing. They were, eating grass. They were laying down, they were just
joshchilling.
britYeah. They were totally vibing. this one sheep was like, I am so interested in you two and I'm gonna start running up to you.
joshMm-hmm.
britAnd we were like, uh, I don't know what we're supposed to do. We both kind of stopped when it started coming towards us.
joshMm-hmm.
britI was like, boo, I'm scared. Like, it looks like kind of aggressive right now.
joshYeah.
britLike it was coming at us very aggressively.
joshYeah. On all of our other hikes, we, we had ran into a herd of sheep. No problems. They just laid there, stood around, moved outta the way, did their own thing. But this little guy just, and from like a hundred yards out, we weren't even close to him yet.
britMm-hmm.
joshAnd just came on over onto the trail and a slight jog towards us.
britMm-hmm.
joshWhat are you doing? And yeah, like he said. Didn't wanna mess with it, so we just decided to turn around.
britYeah. we, we saw everything we needed to see.
joshYeah.
britcoming back down is where you fell and it was pretty dicey. It was wet and rainy and muddy and it was a real adventure.
joshthat's for sure.
britI look back and somebody had told us that sheep were, kind of like dogs and they'd be fine. Mm-hmm. If you let it come towards you.
joshYeah.
britAnd I mean, looking back, I think we definitely could have and we would've been fine.
joshTotally fine.
britBut I'm glad that we didn't. Yeah. Because who knows, maybe that guy was just like super aggressive. Mm-hmm. I don't know.
joshwanted to start a fight. Who knows.
britYeah, maybe. But it was a fun hike. I would recommend that one at least to the halfway point.
joshMm-hmm.
britI would probably recommend, you know, going on a drier day, a day where it's not as rainy. after that we had walked back to the car We drove down to the parking lot by the water and it was really beautiful. we walked down to the water and it was stunning.
joshAnd I'm pretty sure while looking at the map here, it was, Ferter Cove, Really interesting experience. And right next to it was a filming location for Star Wars, uh, the Sunset site in episode eight. It says, we didn't hike up to that, but we could kind of see around and understood where it was.
britYeah, I think it was like a 10 minute hike if I'm something like
joshthat.
britYeah. If I'm remembering correctly. But it was really muddy. Mm-hmm. Like, I looked up and I was like, Ooh, that is muddy. So I didn't wanna do it,
joshand it was already raining and I had fell in the poop. So I, the whole, it
britwas a whole thing.
joshThe moods were ruined. Plus then you had ride in the car with me, smell like sheep poop, eh?
britYeah. But we both actually ended up smelling like sheep poop because. We went and held a baby sheep.
joshOh yeah.
britWe didn't actually hold the baby sheep. Mm-hmm. Because I didn't wanna pick them up.
joshYeah.
britIt didn't seem like they wanted to be picked up. they seemed, playful.
joshYeah. Yeah. They were ready to play. They were ready to hang out. It just also seemed kind weird. They were just kind on their own in their little pen and felt a little sad, like, where's everyone else?
britYeah. There was definitely one that was limping. Mm-hmm. And that made me so sad for it. Right. I don't know that I would do this experience again.
joshYeah.
britThere was, there were a couple that were like extremely happy and you could tell.
joshMm-hmm.
britUm, but that one was limping and it just kind of sat in the corner and it was, it, it made me sad.
joshYeah. but after holding the sheep, we went on back and showered up, headed back downtown, Dingle. A place that Amy and plenty of others had told us that we had to go was to Murphy's Ice Cream.
britYes.
joshMm-hmm.
britWe got a scoop of cinnamon and a scoop of Irish cream together and it tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
joshYeah. Little boozy cinnamon toast.
britIt was so good. Yeah. for dinner this night, we went to the fish box.
joshMm-hmm.
britAnd we had the crispy chili hake, which was insanely delicious. It was so good. I would definitely recommend this one. It was pretty spicy, so I think you struggled with it a little bit, but I loved it. Definitely recommend it. And then we also, we were craving a burger, so we got a smash burger.
joshYeah,
britI know. It was pretty good.
joshMm-hmm. I think this might have been the first burger we had on the trip.
britIt was. after the fish box, we kind of had a night out and we went to Dick Macks.
joshYeah.
britWhere you split the G.
joshYep.
britwe met a couple of people here at Dick Macks.
joshMm-hmm.
britWe ended up meeting them out later as well.
joshMm-hmm.
britBut first we went to one of their recommendations for the best Guinness in Dingle, which I don't, I don't know. I think all of it is really, really delicious. But we went to Urin. Is that how it's pronounced?
joshI think they just say it as Currans.
britI split the G there and I nailed it there.
joshCrushed it.
britYeah.
joshCurrans was a very interesting place.
britIt was a very local place.
joshVery local.
britYou could tell. Mm-hmm. Like everybody looked at us when we walked in. Yep. And it was very clear. We were out of towners and nobody else was.
joshAnd the bar or pub was interesting because half the room was bar seating where there were pouring drinks and all that. And then the other half. Was kind of like small grocery store.
britMm-hmm.
joshSort of vibes. I don't know if it was a functioning grocery store, but that's how it was. And from the outside you could barely tell that it was a bar. It was very cool. Very small town Ireland feel. And the people inside it were very local. after Currans, we decide to go right down the street to Kennedy's where our friends from Dick Macks were. And we found them sitting in their little under the stairs. Snug there.
britYeah. The snug. Mm-hmm. That is actually a little room where women used to have to drink because they couldn't drink in public with the men. Mm-hmm. and I learned a, a, a little bit about this history while we were there, and it's so interesting to learn about those things. And some of these places still have the snugs.
joshMm-hmm.
britUm, this one was really, really cute and it was so small. It was kind of like a, I don't know, maybe like a coat closet.
joshSure.
britTurned into a drinking environment.
joshYeah. Pretty much what it was. And then it had a little window right to the bartender so they could just pass you a new drink through it.
britYeah.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt was really fun. And we also, went outside of the snug and we sat in one of those rooms and listened to a guy play the guitar.
joshMm-hmm.
britIn this bar, Kennedy's, they have candlelight and that's their only form of light.
joshMm-hmm.
britSo it's just, it's so beautiful. It's such a unique environment than what we've probably ever seen. And I, I think that's why I liked it so much. There were candles just everywhere.
joshyeah, it was really cool. They said that one night when they were open and everyone was there, the power went out. So they laid out all the candles and when the power came back on, everyone was like, oh no, turn the lights out. We like it with the candles. So they just kind of kept it with the candles and the fireplace. So, very homey vibe.
britYeah.
joshMm-hmm. Dingle's such a fun small town. There's a bunch of really cute little shops around there One of'em that we got to go into, I can't remember the name, but it's very distinct'cause it's got in the corner by the door, a painting of a black and white cat, which we love right away because our cat Oreo is black and white, very similar to this. And then right above was the distinguished gentleman himself just sitting in front of his portrait. If you're, uh, watching on YouTube, you'll be looking at the picture right now. But it was such, such a cool little place that we went into and they. We went in there and they had postcards and little trinkets and stuff like that, but yeah, it was so cute to see this little guy with his portrait.
britYeah. we saw the portrait the day before, but not the cat. And then the next day we were walking by and I'm like, oh, there's the cat. And I looked at the portrait and Josh is like, oh, that's actually the cat. Yeah. Then I looked up and I'm like, oh my god. Such a cute little guy.
joshYeah. They were just showing off.
britYeah. but we also did drive to the coast while we were here. we walked on the beach a little bit, where there were all of these rocks and you tried skipping rocks in the ocean.
joshMm-hmm.
britWhich was kind of fun.
joshMm-hmm.
britAnd we also went to this very local small town pub.
joshYes.
britRight as they opened. And I split the G there. if you don't know what splitting the g is, it is trying to get the line of the Guinness to match up with the line of the G on the glass.
joshYeah.
britSo we'll try to show you a video on the YouTube recording. but it was really fun to get to try and do that throughout this entire trip. I will say driving out to the coast was pretty scary. There were very small roads.
joshYes, for sure.
britProbably the smallest we've seen.
joshYeah. It was, uh, definitely a snug fit.
britMm-hmm.
joshOn the roads. beautiful beach. we went out to the green room bar is what it was. And uh, some locals had recommended for us to go out to it because it is out there. If you were to look this up on Google, there is a small sliver of land that leads out to it and they say they're pretty sure that eventually with climate change and the rising sea levels, eventually it's all gonna be underwater out there. And it kind of feels like that. Yeah. Yeah.
britI mean, it is so close to the ocean.
joshMm-hmm.
britreally gorgeous place. Loved being on the beach that's right there. a place I would definitely recommend to check out if you wanna go for a drive.
joshYeah. Yeah. There, there's a bunch of beaches along the road. Seems like a pretty popular beach town during tourist season. we spent most of the day doing that. And then we had dinner at, Benners Hotel restaurant.
britMm-hmm. We had the seafood chowder and the chicken linguini.
joshYes. Both.
britBoth. Delicious.
joshIt was one of the few times, maybe the only time I was able to get seafood chowder on the trip.'cause I was really craving it for some reason. And just another thing, kind of like a Guinness stew to really heat up your bones, keep you warm.
britOh my God. I could go for a Guinness stew. Right now we have a pile of snow outside that is as tall as I am.
joshYeah.
britAnd a Guinness stew right now I think would solve all of my problems.
joshI, it would about solve all of mine, I think as well. Uh, Guinness Stew and a Guinness, both of those.
britYeah. and the next day we got a flat white and a cappuccino at Bean and Dingle, which is a cute little coffee shop. It's adorable. Really good coffee. And then I needed more coffee, so we also checked out my boy blue. This white chocolate raspberry muffin is literally all I've been thinking about this entire episode. I'm not kidding you. It was the most amazing muffin I've ever had in my life. It was very sweet, but not too sweet.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt was perfectly cooked. Sometimes I feel like with a muffin. It is too dry. I usually don't go for muffins, but the cashier recommended the muffin, so that's what we got.
joshYeah,
britand I'm so glad she recommended this because it was not dry at all.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt was perfect.
joshYeah.
britI'm obsessed with this muffin. I want to make it at home. I don't think I'll be able to replicate it in the same way. It was so good. If you are in Dingle, go get this fricking muffin. That's my number one recommendation. Go get this muffin. It is so good
joshand it's a wild take. Your number one recommendation is go get this muffin.
britI have been thinking about this muffin so much. I don't think you understand. I've really been thinking about it so much, like too much. Um, but anyways, I digress.
joshIf that's your number one recommendation. Mine is Dingle Distillery. Yeah. Where we went and had a tour that day.
britYeah, that would be my number two. I mean, it was amazing. But this muffin cannot be beat.
joshOkay. It don't get me wrong. It was a really delicious muffin. It's, and my boy blew a fantastic little cafe. Great coffee. We had flat white and a cappuccino there. Really good beans just and impeccable vibes there as well.
britMm-hmm.
joshBut we did, later on that day, after taking a drive again, uh, went to Dingles Distillery for a tour that we had booked, and this was a really fun tour.
britIt was so fun.
joshMm-hmm. Yeah. Very informative. Got to see the whole distillery, same setup as Cr That, uh, we had done when we were in Donegal, So if you haven't listened to the episode, go listen to that, where we talk about Crolly Distillery, but very similar, talked about the copper stills that they had, what it takes to make different whiskeys, the different kinds that they have, how they're new.
britMm-hmm.
joshUh, very popular distillery for. Their gin. We saw their gin all over the place in Ireland
britand we tried it too. Very good gin as well.
joshYeah. Yeah.
britBut their whiskey was so delicious. We got to try five different kinds. when we first started the tour, we got to try one and then, got to try another one a little bit after, and then we got to try three when we went upstairs. All really delicious. My favorite were the last four that we had.
joshMm-hmm.
britWe went upstairs and we got to look at all of the copper stills from, that level up. they also have a tasting room up there. Some of these whiskeys cannot be found in the US yet.
joshMm-hmm.
britWhich is quite unfortunate because they're so good. Yeah. They are really smooth. they have different kinds of like caramely flavors. Some of them have more like fruity flavors. Just so delicious. Highly recommend.
joshAnd the gentleman giving us the tour was quite impressed with your nose and taste buds because you were able to distinguish a few different flavors. Like one I remember specifically was banana.
britYeah.
joshAnd he was very impressed. He said that was something that their professional tasters get. And not a lot of people who come for the tour. End up getting,
britYeah.
joshMm-hmm.
britThat was kind of fun.
joshbut yeah, some great whiskeys. We took a picture of their single pot still whiskey.'cause I think we both really enjoyed it. I think that was a one that we really enjoyed.
britYeah.
joshMm-hmm.
britYeah, really delicious. I really enjoyed learning about how the whiskey was made.
joshMm-hmm.
britI feel like all throughout Ireland at the different places that we went, we got to learn more and more during each one. Mm-hmm. Each place that we toured.
joshMm-hmm.
britUh, really, really informative. I would, I would recommend this tour for sure. I think the two tours that we did are the ones that I would pick again.
joshYeah.
britLike, I would go do these again. Mm-hmm. And I think Dingle specifically, they had said that they are coming out with a, what was it, a 15 year or a 20 year?
joshI think it was 15.'cause they're still pretty young, so I think it was a 15.
britYeah. So I think they're coming out with that next year.
joshMm-hmm.
britit was really amazing. Highly recommend.
joshafter this we went to the Marina Inn for dinner and I think a sandwich that I have never thought of, but it just fricking works. Oh, the chicken Caesar sandwich.
britSo good.
joshI don't know why I've never thought of that. Like there's chicken Caesar wraps. Chicken Caesar sandwich.
britIt was so good. It totally works. How could it not work?
joshI know.
brityeah, we got that at the Marina Inn and we also got fish and chips.
joshMm-hmm.
britWhich again, haven't met a fish and chips that I don't like. So I don't know that I'm one to really say if it's good or not, but it was really good. So
joshgood fish and chips can't miss.
britYeah.
joshAnd then after this, uh, we went back out for a few drinks'cause what else were we supposed to do? And we went to Kennedy's and had a few drinks there to start out our night. And then we went back to Dick Macks because they also brew their own beer and They had a carbonated stout that was hitting and I was craving it. And so we went there and here our buddy Patrick, call him Buddy, he was the bartender the first night and we had hung out with him a little bit that same night. He was there off the job. And so we got talking to him about Ireland and living in Dingle and had a few drinks with him, you and him at a competition splitting the G that, uh, he seemed to really enjoy, even though he's pretty sure splitting the G is just a Guinness marketing tactic for people to drink more Guinness. So,
brityou know, it works.
joshIt worked. I mean, we did it every day of this trip.
britNot every day, but most days,
joshmost days.
britUm, yeah, I was really not feeling the best the day after. Mm-hmm. We had quite a few drinks this night and I think beer just does something to me that makes me feel like absolute shit the next day. So, it was fun though. I really enjoyed hanging out with Patrick and, getting to know him and also just being around locals. Mm-hmm. was really fun. I think that in Dingle, I envisioned us there. More than I envisioned us anywhere else on the trip.
joshYeah.
britAnd we were walking around and at one point I looked at you and I was like, I feel it. I, I have the feeling here.
joshYeah.
britI can see it very clearly. And I still, I look back and I think Dingle is, uh, a place I would live.
joshI could definitely live in Dingle as well. It's like a perfect combination of size and like secluded ness. Mm-hmm. As far as a town and because there's other kind of similar size town, like along the way in, in that area.
britYeah.
joshWhen you're driving to Dingles, so you don't feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere, just in this town.'cause you pass by plenty of other towns similar size.
britMm-hmm.
joshthere's so much to do as far as hikes and seeing different things. And a lot of the locals that we talked to along the trip in Teelin and Clifden in Dublin, our next stop, a lot of'em said Dingle is one of their favorite places in Ireland next to Galway County. Galway or Galway, the city.
britYeah. I've been reflecting a lot on Dingle and mainly because it was, our last trip and it was the highlight of our last trip for me.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt was the stop where I could see it the most. Yeah. I think this was not only, my favorite town in Ireland, but it was also one of my favorite towns that we've been to.
joshReally?
britYeah. Mm-hmm. I really loved it here.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt was such a, such a vibe. I don't know how else to say it. Mm-hmm. It was, I mean, with the water right there, you feel like you get the beach a little bit. There's mountains around, so like you drive 10 minutes out and you're in the mountains. Yeah. In Ireland. Mm-hmm. You're by the cliffs, there's the local town pubs where you feel like you can really get to know people. People were so kind here, there were really no moments where I felt, totally out of place. yeah. I just, I could really see it here.
joshIt's a really comforting town, I think that's kinda what you're saying. it's got a real comfort feel to it.
britIt does. And there's so many good restaurants too.
joshMm-hmm.
britWhere you can get some good food. Yeah. I mean, we did not have a bad bite here.
joshNo. Don't think we did. It had great service. I get some cute shops, some great coffee. There's a grocery store that we went to that had lots of everything. You need plenty of places to stay, so if you're visiting, Heatons obviously gonna recommend that The people who own Heatons we're pretty sure owns the place next to them as well. And that one's got a bunch of a awards. So, lot of good options of places to stay.
britYeah. Heatons was incredible. I would highly suggest Heatons if you're staying in Dingle.
joshMm-hmm. And it can only get better as far as availability. Once its tourist season, more places are open.
britYeah. I think I would want to go back here during tourist season to see how we feel during that time of year.
joshMm-hmm.
britBecause it. It really didn't feel like a tourist town
joshmm-hmm.
britWhen we were there.
joshNo.
britBut we were there during off season.
joshYeah.
britAnd I don't know if it would completely change my mind that this could be a place for us.
joshMm-hmm.
britif we go during tourist season and we're like, there's no way we can't handle this. Or we're like, this is just for a couple months, we'll be fine.
joshYeah.
britI really don't know how we would feel. Mm-hmm. Um, and I don't even know if, if that would be enough. I think we would have to really live there to fully experience it. But, of
joshcourse, yeah. You can only get so much information from the, you know, couple day visits that we would do.
britYeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. But Dingle just, I loved it here. I loved it, loved it, loved it.
joshAnd lots of people do. We saw quite a few stickers and bars from tours that came from Wisconsin.
britMm-hmm.
joshAnd people that came from Wisconsin, like Milwaukee, Irish Fest. Yeah. Had stickers all over the place in Ireland and in Dingles, specifically multiple places.
britYeah.
joshOh my gosh.
britThere was also one in Teelin. Mm-hmm. At the Rusty Mackerel.
joshYeah. We just, we couldn't get away from Wisconsin there. Yeah. Like, oh, look at that. Everyone else from Wisconsin's been here, which isn't anything surprising. Wisconsin's got a huge Irish heritage. A bunch of people from Ireland have immigrated there. just a fantastic place to be. It's easy to see why so many people travel there, and even as people who. I generally look for places that are off the beaten path. I still loved it and would recommend that someone who's in the same boat go and visit Dingle. Maybe do it in the off season if you wanna be around less people. I don't know. Yeah. But a great place to go.
britWell, it's so easy to get off the beaten path. Mm-hmm. It's so easy. Yeah. You just have to drive a couple minutes.
joshYeah.
britAnd then you're. Off the beaten path.
joshRight.
britSo I think you kind of, like you said, get the best of both worlds there.
joshMm-hmm.
britI think our trip was, I said this before, but it was crafted so nicely. Mm-hmm. And I didn't even know that going in. I, I don't think you ever do until you're done with it. Right? Mm-hmm.
joshBut
britI truly feel like we saw some of the best places in Ireland, and I know there's so much more, there's so much more to see. Uh, but if you're going for, you know, two weeks, I would suggest all of the places that we've been to
joshfor sure. For sure. I don't know how you can get Full picture of Ireland if you don't go to at least some of these places.
britYeah.
joshLike if you don't go and stay in Donegal, the Northernness part of Ireland, how can you get a full picture?
brityeah. overall Dingle really lived up to my expectations and exceeded them.
joshMm-hmm.
britSo I'm so happy that we stayed here
joshmm-hmm.
britAnd that we stayed at Heaton's and ate and drank at all of the places that we did. Just such fun experiences here in Dingle. And I will remember it forever.
joshyou said that. You could see yourself living here. Is it a place that you would choose to go and live right away?
britso I did get the feeling. I think I've gotten the feeling stronger at other places.
joshYeah.
britI've let it digest a little bit. Mm-hmm. And the feeling has grown stronger for dingle.
joshMm-hmm.
britIt really has. but my top three is Scotland, Belgium, Sweden.
joshMm-hmm.
britI don't know that it takes over any of those spots. I don't think so.
joshMm-hmm.
britI think I would still gravitate towards one of those three.
joshSure.
britWhat about you?
joshI could definitely see myself living there, but I think I'm in a similar boat. Some of those other ones, like Belgium and Scotland still are a stronger pull for me at the moment.
britYeah.
joshAnd I think that just means we gotta do more in-person research, whether it's those places or back to Ireland or somewhere new, which we will be going to soon. Who knows?
britWe will. Oh my gosh. Not for quite a few episodes though.
joshYeah. so we only had one more stop on this trip.
britNext episode we will be talking about our last stop, which is Dublin.
joshYes.
