Speaker:

Alright guys, welcome to another a DB podcast. We have Kurt Gibbs back again, Gibbs. He's gonna be here to talk us through the 2025 Australian Supercross Championship preview. We kind of wanna know from the man who has been racing a lot of these guys for the last 20 years, who he picks as probably a favorite, a dark horse, everything else. So Gibbs he Welcome to the a b podcast again mate, it's great to have you back.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Um, alright mate, let's get stuck straight into it. Let's talk to, uh, four 50 Supercross for 2025. We know already that, uh, will Dean Wilson is, uh, Dino's signed with Quad Luck Honda for the entire 2025 Aus X Series. We've got Nathan Crawford is on the KDM and he's partnered with Dylan Walsh from New Zealand. I assume you've probably had a bit to do with, uh, maybe Walsh or at least familiar with the team there than there's. Cloudy is gonna be on his cowie. Um, and Matt Moss looks like he'll be on a cowie I believe as well. Um, and we've got Aaron Tanty on a CDA Yamaha bike, but we have yet to be, get confirmed who the other CDA Yamaha rider will be. Um, it's possible it could be an American import. And then the rumors that we're hearing, um, is that Shane Mcath will be back again for Honda. Um, I assume on a two 50, we're not sure yet. Uh, Cedric Subru, I think is his last name. I can never pronounce it right. I believe he's also potentially coming over for Honda. And then, uh, Thomas Woods, or as everyone kind of Effectionately knows him, tiger Woods. Um, he is gonna race for Honda two. These are, they're all rumors. Um, but four 50 class, if you could pick, I'm guessing it's gonna be Dino Crawford. Maybe cloudy or mossy will be fast too. If you could pick a winner. Who's, who are you picking?

Speaker 2:

Uh, yeah, I mean, it's hard to go past Dean Wilson. Um, I mean, he rides pretty much rides Supercross year round, so, um. Super good, talented, um, long lanky. Good through the, whoops. Um, yeah, so I mean, yeah, Dean Wilson's super hard to go past. Um, uh, then, um, I would say cloudy is probably our best at the moment is our best Aussie guy. So hopefully, um, you know, he can, he can have a good series started off well. Um. You know, obviously being around the Ford crew, um, I, I see, you know, his group riding and cloudy's on that group. So, um, he, he looks quite good at the moment, so, um, yeah, we'll see, we'll see how he goes. But I think, um, yeah, between, I think really it's between maybe those two guys between, depends on this, uh, the so guy or whatever, which I, I dunno a lot about. But, um. I, I think if, if you're just talking now, I would just go off those two guys. I know Tan, he's come off a big injury, um, which I, I'm sure he will do well. Dacker bikes are good, so he'll do well and then obviously yeah, depending on who Dak signs for a second guy. So,

Speaker:

um, I'm impressed he's still racing at this level. At, at his age he's, he's still bloody good, but, um. He's gonna be partnered with cloudy. Will it help that tho, that cowie pairing to kind of team up and maybe work, work together is, can you do that in Supercross?

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Yeah. It'd be interesting to see, um, how they go. Um. I think Matt is, yeah, Matt's obviously a, a super good Supercross rider. Um, I just think, like you said, I think as you start to get older, um, he's, he's like a year or so older than I'm, and I know that just things just start becoming tougher. So, um. I definitely think he's a top five guy. Um, and may maybe puts it on the box here and there, but I, I don't see him winning, winning races. Um, but, but in saying that, he could prove me wrong, um, like you said, he's, he's probably been one of Australia's best Supercross riders ever, you know, so, um, you can't just, you can't snooze on that guy. So, um, yeah, and then it'd be interesting to see, um. NATO had a pretty rough Supercross season last year, so it'd be good to see how he goes this year. And then, um, interesting to see what Dylan Walsh can do on a, on a four 50. So, have,

Speaker:

have you done much with, I mean, obviously you've just finished up with the KDM racing team and I, I know Dylan's come in for Supercross, um, and it's gonna be his first full Aus X season one, um, a a x season in SX one. So have you had much to do with Dylan Walsh? What's he like? Who, who does he ride? Like anyone that we'd be familiar with?

Speaker 2:

Um, yeah, I've had a little bit to do with Dylan when I, when I went over and. Did some racing in New Zealand and stuff. I, I spent some time over there and he was there. So, um, yeah, it Dylan's, Dylan's good. Um, he is predominantly a two 50 guy, so that's what I mean. It'd be good to see how he goes on a four 50. I, I believe he could definitely ride one. Well, so I, just depending on how well he gels with the kdm, uh, I know he's been on for a long time and, um. He, he's definitely fast. He does a lot of stuff over in Europe and then races, um, you know, one of the coasts in America. So, and, uh, you know, he potentially, I think he's around the top 10, so, um, he's, he is definitely got the speed and the capability. So it'd be just interesting to see, like I said, Howie gels with the team and everything like that, and the bike and, and how it goes from there.

Speaker:

Yeah. Cool. Okay. Well, so cloudy and mossy then hopefully to take, um, take down Dino, not literally, uh, figuratively. Um, and you know, that'll be, it'd be nice to see an Aussie win, a Supercross title. It's been a lot of imports of late. Um, but yeah, that'd be cool. All right, let's move on to SX two. Um, that class is probably a little more stacked. It depends, I guess if Shane Muck rides. In a two 50. On a two 50 in SX two. I mean, he's gonna be pretty hard to beat. He even, I think he got better after last year's Ooz X, um, series. When he went to America, he finished ninth or something, I think in their series. So, um, he's on fire. He's gonna be hard to beat Now if he doesn't race. The list for the SX two is Wilson Todd, Alex Larwood, Brody Connolly, Noah Ferguson, Byron Dennis. Uh, right at Kingsford. Jace Cosford is kind of who I've got down here. That's confirmed as of the 9th of September. Um, who's your pick in SX two if Shane doesn't come?

Speaker 2:

Um, yeah, I, I mean, yeah. Another, uh, this one's a tough one, like you said, A little bit more stacked, a little bit more, um, I mean. Across the board is a little bit closer with everyone, you know. Um, but in saying that, you'd probably have to go with Wilson Todd, um, bit older than them boys. Um, definitely a good two 50 rider. You know, he is gone to a four 50 and done well, so I think he'd step back onto a two 50 and do well as well. Um, but then yeah. Um, you, Noah, Ferguson, rider, Kingsford, Broley, Connolly, um, all these guys, they're all, they're all like, you put'em in a, you put'em in a hat and you pick out the name and that guy could win on that night, you know? So, um, yeah, two fifties. It's actually a really good class to be able to sit back and watch that one because it's, I think it's gonna be a little bit up and down with results. Um, but. It'll be good because it'll just give everyone, you know, a lot of variety and, and, uh, it'll be whoever can stay the most consistent in that class, I think.

Speaker:

Yeah, definitely. Um, and what do you think will be the difference in like both classes this year, um, at Supercross? Is, is track gonna make the most difference? I mean, we talk, you talked before about Dino being lanky. We all know that. It seems that long legs help in big, whoops. Um, but. Maybe if we don't run big whoops, at our, uh, at every one of our rounds, will it change the end result? What do you think will be the difference this year for Supercross In both classes? For all the competitors?

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I mean, if they don't run big, whoops. I mean, it makes, makes it a lot more interesting. Makes it a lot more closer together. I think that, you know, Australian, the Australian series is. We, we do it obviously completely backwards to the Americans. We, we race all, you know, all year long. And then basically jam three, you know, three to four rounds of Supercross at the end of the year for, for three, three months. Um, we're the opposite in America. So they spend all this time doing Supercross. That's why they're so good. And when they come out here, they're just so used to it. So, um, I mean, if big whoops come into play, well then I think the Americans have a little bit of an upper hand, but. If they don't, well, I think it, you know, it, it's fair game. I think everyone's, you know, got no excuses and everyone's gotta go out there and, and do their best. So, um, like I said, it'd be, it'd be interesting to see who, how it pays out and, um, who's, who's done the work in the off season, you know, I think, uh, yeah, it'll, it'll definitely show by round one.

Speaker:

Cool. And then, um, obviously we've got to. The, uh, one-off kind of, uh, guys who are gonna come over and race the um, Melbourne Aex Open. You got Cole Davies is coming down with Yamaha. You got Jet and Hunter Lawrence. Adam CI is turning up, I believe, but I think he's just doing a, uh, a bit of a demo run around. Um. I mean, jet and Hunter Lawrence, they're gonna, it's gonna be hard for them not to lap up to almost third or fourth, I'm assuming they're just on another level. Cole Davies will be pretty impressive in the two 50 class when it comes to those rounds. That's pretty much a done deal, would you say, or do you think maybe some of the Ozzy Aussie guys on a smaller track like Melbourne is tied a track? They've got a chance of hanging with the Lawrences. Davies?

Speaker 2:

Uh, yeah, I mean, it's, it's tough because you don't know, like, like last year, you dunno if the Lawrences are gonna show up on a dead stock bike with some suspension. You know? I mean, that, that just goes to show the difference of bike. Um. Because those guys looked for me last year at Aex. Those guys looked uncomfortable on those bikes. They just didn't look like they were at home. The bikes were a little bit on and off, but you know, in true fashion, you know, hunter still goes and wins. So I think, I think those guys are. Are good enough to win, you know, on, on whatever bike they get. It's just depending on if they can bring something out that's a lot closer, I think no one's got a shot. But I think if they, if they're just riding a setup like they had last year, like a stock bike with suspension, I think it's. I think it's a lot closer. I still think that the Lawrence boys get it done, but I think, you know, you never know. There could be, you know, they don't get the starts, like they weren't getting it last year. So I think, you know, there's, there's definitely options for, for someone to jump up and, and take the reins if, if they can. And then obviously same with Cole Davies. Um, I mean, if he brings his full star bike out, there's no one's probably got a shot. Um. But yeah, I mean, it's cool. It's, it's good to see and um, you know, it's pretty special to see those caliber of riders come out and, and, uh, put on a show here in Australia.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's exciting. Times ahead. Thanks again, gey for the time. On the phone mate. And we will await round one and see who turns up. Uh, read it. Read a win.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Awesome. Now I'll be, uh, yeah, I'm keen to see who, who shows up
