Setting The Tampa Bay Scene
Speaker 02Get ready to dive into finding a colorful world at the greater Tampa Bay Area. Whether you're starting out a military move, checking out the senior living scene, or just on the hunt for the coolest local spots, let's get started and have some fun.
Why A Non-Scary Halloween
Speaker 00Well, hello everyone. This is Candace. Hi, Lisa. Hey. So today we are talking about things to do for Halloween in the Tampa Bay area, correct?
Speaker 02Yes, we are. But we are not going to be talking about just the trunk or treats. We're not going to be talking about the normal things that people do. I want to talk about different things. More interest, not necessarily more interesting. Just things to do, like if you have kids who have allergies, if you have kids who have noise sensory issues, you know, they they don't want to hear, you know, a lot of the scary things, but they still want to celebrate. I have a lot of that, plus, you know, some pirate ships and sounds fun. Oh yeah, I'm actually excited. I I I can't I have to tell you, I really have never been into Halloween. My mother was not into Halloween. We really didn't decorate for Halloween. It was always get through Halloween and let's get to the next holidays. But just doing this research, I'm actually super excited this year.
Speaker 00Well, and thanks for doing the research because I don't have kids and I'm not really into Halloween. You know, I'm a Christmas person. Yeah. I did decorate a little bit in the house for Halloween because my husband does like Halloween.
Speaker 01I was like, I was so I'm so happy you said for Christmas, because I was gonna be like, or for Halloween, because I was gonna say, okay, don't tell me you started with your Christmas decorations because I know last year you were biting, you were like so ready to do this. November 1st. November 1st.
Speaker 00All right, no, my husband likes Halloween, so I did a little bit of decorating for him in the house. Not a lot, because I'm just not a Halloween person. Yeah, I don't really like scary things, so I'm excited to hear about the non-scary stuff that you discovered in the area. So excited. And even though I don't have kids, I might want to join in.
Shoutout: Fun4TampaKids Resource
Speaker 02Yeah, I think so. I think so, because there's some really, really cool things to do. So, first off, I want to say um I did get this information from a great website that um whenever I want to take my children somewhere interesting, I kind of go to this place, and that is funfortampa kids.com. And it's actually fun, the number for tampa kids.com. So we want to do a shout out to them because they do really gather a whole bunch of information. And not only that, they'll go, okay, we made sure that this event is actually happening last week. They they called, they made sure it's still happening. So you know that the information on there is actually going to happen. So it's not last year's, it's it's they update it all the time. So shout out to them.
Speaker 00Um we'll say their their website again at the end, yeah, and then we'll put it in the description so you guys have access to it as well.
Allergy-Friendly & Teal Pumpkin Tips
Speaker 02Totally, totally. And I have friends who have children who not only have food allergies, they have noise sensitivities, they don't want to do the scary, scary thing. My daughter went with my son to Screamageddon and a five minutes, and she's 12 years old, guys. So, you know, she's not teeny tiny. But um, within seven minutes, she called my husband and said, Um, no, you need to come pick me up.
Speaker 00And Screamageddon, that's Busch Gardens.
Speaker 02No, Screamageddon is actually up at Treehoppers, up off of 52, and it's scary. It's scary. And I was like, okay, bye, children. I'm not going. Yeah, I don't like it's not me.
Speaker 00I've done the Universal Haunted Houses, Universal Studios Orlando, and I was always behind my husband. Literally, his shirt would be so stretched out from me throwing him in front of me every time somebody jumped out. So I don't really like scary things.
Speaker 02Thank goodness for our husbands. We always throw them in front of stuff. I mean, seriously. My husband's not very nice though. He was trying to throw me out in front. Okay, let's get started with this because I have a number of papers here in front of me, and I want to make sure that I go ahead and get as much of this information out as possible. So, like I said, I wanted to make sure that I pulled things that I thought were pretty cool and a little bit different because, you know, yeah, I'm a little bit different too. So here we go. Um, allergen-friendly Halloween party at Steinbrenner Stadium. Oh, fine. Yes, right. So I um, and we can also put the event ticket information on the in the description. Uh, that way people can go to it because this is something that you do have to purchase a ticket, five dollars per child. It's not a hundred dollars. It's fantastic. Um, they're going to be having um crafts non-food trick-or-treat stations.
Speaker 00Oh fun. I always give out non-food stuff for kids with allergies.
Speaker 02Do you know how you can tell children? Do you know how you can tell them that you are giving out things?
Speaker 00Yes, there's a um, I have a flag, garden flag for my yard.
Sensory-Friendly Museum & Aquarium Options
Speaker 02It's the teal pumpkin. So, parents, just so you know, if somebody has a teal pumpkin in the front of their house, they have treats that are non-food, non-allergen for those children who have the major allergies, which is fantastic. And I'm gonna do that this year. I'm gonna get myself a teal pumpkin, I'm gonna put it out. I I I personally don't like giving candy to children because my son was hypoglycemic. So he couldn't have candy. And it was like, all right, babe, I'll just buy your candy from you, you know, so he could go help trick-or-treating. Yeah, I lost a lot of money over the years. Yeah, with hockey and that, you know.
Speaker 00So, what are the dates to this event at Steinbrenner?
Speaker 02Okay, Sunday, October 26th from 2 until 4 p.m. So make sure that you get your tickets, they must be purchased in advance, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Speaker 00Nice.
Speaker 02And the adults don't have to pay anything, they just have to bring their kids in the kitchen. It did not say that.
Speaker 00Okay.
Skate Park Contests & Ice Skating
Speaker 02So yeah, great. Okay, now sensory friendly parties. We have two great sensory friendly parties. Um, Sunday, October 26th at 8 a.m. And the other one, excuse me, is um actually it looks like it's at the same time. So choose which one you want. Choose which one you want. So the Florida Aquarium is hosting one, and Glazer Children's Museum is hosting one. I love that. Yes. Um, so the Glazer Museum is an all-day thing. You do have to purchase tickets for that. And then the Florida Aquarium um that starts at 8 a.m. It's free for members, $10 for non-members. Just make sure. And like I said, we have the addresses, we have the information. We're gonna go ahead and put that in the description so everybody can get it. But I thought this was amazing because there are kids out there who do want to do the celebrations, but their parents are like, I can't do that to my child. Yeah, and this is just something really, really amazing that people are becoming aware of, which is wonderful. Now on the not so um quiet side of things. I found these two cool, cool, really, really cool things at skate parks here in the Tampa Bay area.
Speaker 00Skate parks still exist?
Speaker 02Yes, yes, they do. I know. Like, are we talking skateboards or roller skates? We're talking skateboards, um um, what is it? Um inline, sorry, inline skating. Um, so both the Carrollwood Village uh skate park, they have a skate jam, and Jackson Springs skate park um are doing um best trick, best costume. Um now make sure that you know that there's no alcohol allowed in any of these in these two events. There is no minimum age requirement, and there's no um registration fee or any fees to it. Um it's just come and do the Halloween contest, which is amazing. That's 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Speaker 00And if you're gonna skate, you probably want to be careful what your costume is so that you don't get injured.
Speaker 02Oh, no ball gowns?
Speaker 00Oh ball gowns. I know that she would show up in a ball gown.
Speaker 02Totally. And my tiara. Hello.
Speaker 00I don't think that would work well with skates.
Weeki Wachee Wicked Nights
Speaker 02Now, going along with skating, Advent Health Center Ice, which is up in Wesley Chapel, they are having a Halloween um themed skate that's $22 in advance, $25 at the door. Um, that's just up off of 56. Ice skating. That's ice skating. So just kept that within the skate family. I wanted to make sure everybody knew about it. Um, okay, so a couple of other really cool things. Uh number one, I want to shout out to my hometown of Spring Hills slash Weeki Wachee, Florida, where the mermaids are. Okay. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is having a fun, fun wicked nights. And they're having a creepy carnival, costume contests, um, a haunted maze, and doing a number of different things. And then there's also an underwater show. 8, 9, and 10 p.m., they're gonna be doing an underwater show. That's fun. I have a feeling that you're gonna try and go to one of those. I think I might. I think I might. Um, that's October 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Um, $12 um anyone over the age of three, and that's up in Spring Hill. And if you have not been to Weeki Wachee, um I actually have not, believe it or not.
Speaker 00What? I know about it. I grew up in Orlando, so I know of it. I just have never been.
Pumpkin Patch Express Details
Speaker 02It's so funny when I used to tell people where I'm from, because I grew up in Spring Hill. Um, my parents moved there when I was four years old. I grew up in Spring Hill, and they're like, Spring Hill, where's that? I was like, well, do you know where the mermaids are? They're like, Yes. I was like, that's just across 19. It's right there, no problem. Okay, so love me some Weeki Wachee, go to my hometown, give me a shout out. Um, okay, and now I want to just talk about five just really cool things that I thought. Um, Florida Railroad Museum, Pumpkin Patch Express. They have um lots of activities, including hay rides, arts and crafts, Lincoln Log Building. That's a toy of my generation. Yes, I know. I thought that was really cool. You know, Lincoln Longs were our Legos. Yeah. You know, Legos too, but they were like, build the buildings, little log cabins. Yes. Um, they they do have food and beverages available for purchase there. Um, but you know, I just thought it was a really cool thing, and that's down in Parrish. Oh, that's close to me. That's very close to you. Yeah. So that's happening.
Speaker 00And what's the dates of those again?
Lost Pearl Pirate Cruise
Speaker 02That is October 18th and 19th, the 25th and 26th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then from 2 p.m. to 4 30. So I guess you buy a ticket for just those time periods, and you can go in and do all the different activities. And we're gonna put the information on how you get tickets on there. I did not, oh, you have to see the website for prices. I didn't put the prices on here, um, but I thought it was really good. Yes. Um, so the Lost Pearl Halloween pirate adventure cruise.
Speaker 00Now that sounds something like something I would love to do. I like pirates. I don't know why.
Speaker 01I think that we need to do this. I'm ready.
Speaker 02Now, the Lost Pearl for people who aren't part of the Tampa Bay area or haven't been in the Tampa Bay area is a pirate ship that does many things down um in downtown, and they do have you know cruises all the time going out, and obviously they're here for Gasparilla, which is our huge party. Yep. Uh our pirate party. Our pirate party that I have never been to, if you can believe that. I've never been either. I think we might need to do it this year.
Speaker 00I think so.
Speaker 02I have friends who were on cruise and all that kind of stuff, and saying yeah, okay, we might have to do that too.
Speaker 00Add that to the list.
Speaker 02I know. I know. Now that we started this podcast, everything's gonna get really expensive.
Speaker 01Seriously.
Speaker 00Just to buy some real estate, please. Hello.
Speaker 02Okay, so they have a one and a half hour cruise. Drinks are included, and those are just like complimentary uh soda, domestic beer, wine, house spears. They do have souvenirs that are additional, but they're gonna be going out and just having a great old piratey time. And I think I need to be involved in that. Um that sounds fun. You know, it does have a price tag on it. Adults, thirty, you know, anybody 13 and over is $40. Children two to twelve are thirty dollars, and infants are thirteen.
Speaker 00That's actually not that bad of a price. Not that bad. Not you look, it's entertainment. Yeah. I you know I've paid a lot higher to go to other things. Starbucks.
Speaker 01It's a lot higher to go to Starbucks, especially with my 12-year-old.
Busch Gardens Kids Sweet-tacular
Speaker 00Does it say we love Starbucks? Oh, I like Starbucks. Not a dig on Starbucks, but yeah. We spend more than latte time right now. We spend more on uh coffee sometimes than if we just send a good.
Speaker 02It's true. Well, um, that we also have look, Clearwater Marine Auditorium or Aquarium is going to be doing something. Bush Gardens, they have uh Candy's uh sweet tacular, I I couldn't, I know, it was hard for me to say, sweet tacular celebration. Um they're doing trick-or-treating, costume parades, spook spooky kooky science, a jack-o'-lantern scavenger hunt. And I thought that that was really pretty cool. It's included with admissions, so if you're going there anyway, um it's ages five to twelve, and you must be registered to attend. So make sure that you register for that so they have enough things for the kids and they know how many kids are coming. But I thought that was pretty cool, and that's happening um on the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from from now until October the 26th.
unknownNice.
Speaker 02Yeah, fun. So, so much fun.
unknownFun.
Speaker 02Any questions on interesting stuff to do?
Wrap-Up, Links, And CTA
Speaker 00Yeah, but that's that's a lot of information. It is a lot. Well, we'll include it in the description of the of the podcast with links to the website so everyone can find their fun, which whichever one of these fits theirs. And again, what was the website that you got all this information from?
Speaker 02Okay, it is fun 4tampakids.com. Now, this is just family-friendly stuff. Guys, there's a lot of stuff out there for adult kind of fun, definitely. But we wanted to focus on because you know, our kids, what like my daughter, what has she done? She has, you know, well, gone to, you know, screaming at him for seven minutes. Um, but you know, she just goes trick-or-treating. This is just something really fun to do around.
Speaker 00Something different throughout the month besides just the night of Halloween. Yeah. Great. Yeah. Great. Well, thank you, Lisa, for all of that research. That's amazing. I'm excited to maybe, I think I might have to go to the Weeki Wachee and check it out. Yeah, let's go. That sounds like fun. But until next time, may all of your October days, whether they're sweet or scary, lead you closer to your next adventure in the sunshine. Thanks for watching. Bye.
