Spring color, cooler air, and the smell of fresh blooms—this is the Walt Disney World sweet spot we live for. We unpack a local’s playbook for doing Disney smarter, with a spotlight on Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival and the simple planning moves that turn a crowded season into a laid-back, joy-filled day.

We start with the essentials at Epcot: stunning topiaries, garden-lined paths, and the Garden Graze tasting passport that transforms snacking into a mini-adventure. You’ll hear how concerts elevate evenings, how the paid egg hunt keeps kids engaged, and why earlier spring weeks can feel roomier than the rush around Easter. Then we widen the lens to free and low-cost wins—Disney Springs for seasonal décor and dining, resort-hopping on complimentary transport, and prime fireworks views from the Contemporary or Polynesian without fighting Main Street bottlenecks.

If you’re driving from Tampa or anywhere nearby, we map out day-trip strategies, Florida resident discounts and blackout realities, and the surprising value of adding a third or fourth ticket day to relieve pressure. Families will love our pacing tips: set one must-do, plan breaks, consider a pool reset, and resist the urge to micromanage every minute. Food lovers get the inside scoop on reasonable quick-service prices, allergy-friendly menus with chef support, and how to enjoy “drinking around the world” without tapping out early. We also share quiet-season timing—early January, late August into September—and the simple packing list that saves the day: snacks, ponchos, comfy shoes, and sunscreen.

The heart of it all is mindset. Plan lightly, pivot with the day, and let spring do the heavy lifting. If this guide helps you find a calmer path to the magic—whether that’s one perfect ride, a shared snack by the lagoon, or a fireworks finale from the beach—hit follow, share with a Disney friend, and leave a quick review to help others find the show.

Setting The Mood And Banter

SPEAKER_01

Checking out the senior living scene or just on the hunt for the coolest local spots. Let's get started and have some fun.

SPEAKER_00

Well, hello there, everyone. This is Candace. I'm here with Lisa and David. Hi, Lisa.

SPEAKER_03

Hello, hi. Hey, what's up? Hello, David. Oh, I'm serious today. Do you guys see this? I just don't want to be serious. You're telling us that. Yes, I was just telling you. I'm gonna give you examples now.

SPEAKER_02

Just want to have fun.

SPEAKER_00

We've been through two rough closing this week. So we're just yeah, I'm gonna just breathe and have a little fun.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, totally. I'm ready. I'm ready. And look, this is water. Are you sure? I I don't know. Maybe not later, but yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It really is. It worked.

SPEAKER_02

I find fun in the embossed.

SPEAKER_00

I just learned that David doesn't like Walt Disney World. Didn't say I didn't like it. Yes, you did.

SPEAKER_02

No. You said you weren't fond of it. I well, in present company, I think me being what my son says is mid on Disney interpreted as I don't like it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yes. Totally. Because anybody who's not all for it and it's exactly Tamil has introduced me to the term mid.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And I'm mid on Disney, which to you I would I would guess that sounds like I don't like Disney.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, totally.

Why Disney And Spring Are The Focus

SPEAKER_00

Totally. 100%. Yeah. Because we're 110% in on Disney World. Yes. 110%. Yeah, definitely. So today we're going to talk about Walt Disney World in the screen.

Getting Around Without Park Tickets

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it's so beautiful. It's so beautiful. My favorite part of it is the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. Yes. Because the food, fantastic. They have a lot of food things that go on during that event as well. So let's talk about that first. Yeah. Since you brought it up. And just so people know, if you do want to find out how to get around, there's buses that go from Disney Springs that you can get to certain places. You can actually just ride monorails and do different things, hotels, both all the resorts. And we're going to do something over the holidays, which obviously we're talking about spring, so the holidays are a little bit further away, but it's a great way to quote unquote for free and be able to travel. Now you do have to set up a little bit more time. If I wasn't going to Epcot and I was trying to go to the hotels, because remember, they do have the um the chocolate Easter egg displays at some of those hotels as well during this time. So yes, during the holidays. Gingerbread that they do during during the holidays. So the company is really decked out. Did you know that they do I did? Yeah.

Local-Friendly, Budget Disney Strategies

SPEAKER_02

So so I have a I have a big question. So we live we live in Tampa in the Tampa area. Disney is super close.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. An hour and ten, depending, because I for, sorry. I4 getting over there, it's at two in the morning, it could be three hours.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Totally.

SPEAKER_02

At two in the afternoon, it could be an hour and ten.

SPEAKER_03

It all depends. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So let's say we live here and we want to go over there, but I don't want to spend a week and I don't I don't want to spend all that time in a hotel. How do we do it on, I want I don't want to say on the cheap, but budget conscious. Yeah. As somebody that's a local, right? And I live, I don't want to go spend all the money on on eating out and spend a week in Disney and live in the hotel. Yeah. So what how do I how do I do it on a on a budget?

SPEAKER_00

So you're saying you just want to experience like the springtime?

SPEAKER_02

Perhaps, yeah. And maybe maybe that's what it means. Maybe I go for one night, or maybe I don't even go overnight. Like maybe I maybe I go early in the morning and come back later in the afternoon.

SPEAKER_03

Done that. We've totally done that. And I do that actually a lot. One of my best friends still um works for the mouse. So there are times where I go over, I'll go over in the morning. Um, and we do a lot of things that you don't necessarily have to go into the parks. Disney Springs is one of those things. The hotels is another thing. You know, one of the best places to watch fireworks is actually at the contemporary resort. Exactly. I actually like to go to the Polynesian and sit by Polynesia's in Poland. There's so many different things that you actually can do on the chip, on a budget, to where you don't have to spend all that money. Because a lot of people, like if you you're going to the parks, you're not packing a cooler, you're not packing all that kind of stuff. It's really hard to do getting around in there. But you can come out of the parks as well and then go back in. Right. It all depends on how much time you have. Because if you're willing to go to Disney Springs, hop on a bus to go over to the Magic Kingdom, to get onto a monorail, to go over to Epcon, and you don't have to pay for parking, fantastic. Right? It all depends on what ticket you have to. Um, remember, Florida um residents, there's always discounts for Florida residents that you can be looking up. Um, but there are blockout dates for those. There are blockout dates, exactly. So, I mean, getting to know the ins and outs is really what you have to do. And and a lot of that is is just doing your research. Because there's so many people out there doing it.

Multi-Day Tickets And Pacing Kids

SPEAKER_02

The other thing that I found, because we did take the kids to Disney this past summer, and we had some folks from out of town from Arizona come and visit us and we wanted to go, but they wanted to go and we put them. But I was interested to find out that if you buy a one or two-day pass versus a three or four-day pass, you're not spending that much money for the third or fourth day to add it on to the original one or two day. And it's sort of foolish to just plan to go for a one-day because for only a little bit more, you get the luxury of doing exactly what you there's the park hopper thing, you can go from one to the other. You don't have to feel this obligation to spend all day from open to close because you're exhausted.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I will tell you, when I had when my kids were little, we went and we did like four straight days. Four straight days. And the one thing that we took away from that is we can do two and then take a day at the pool because the kids just want to jump in a pool. No, we have a pool, they just want to jump in a pool at a resort. Yeah, and then go to the other two days just because they were done. Right. Yeah, they were tired, they were ready to be out of there, they didn't want to be in a line, especially my son. He cannot stand in lines.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, which when you're not flying to go to Disney and flying into Orlando airport and having to deal with that, and you have the ability to get on I-4 and drive. Yes, you have that flexibility. Yeah, totally. To spread it out a little bit, yeah, to not feel like you've got to stay from from park opening all the way to the end of the fireworks. Oh, yeah. And meanwhile, your kids are done.

SPEAKER_03

They're done at two of the afternoon. When I tell you I had to sit, oh I am crazy. We sat, and it was me with my parents, aging parents, um, in-laws. Um, we sat in the middle of the roundabout, right in front of the castle, to make sure that we had a good spot for six hours. You're you're a special. People tell me that all the time.

SPEAKER_02

We're gonna kill it.

SPEAKER_03

Look, one and done, yeah, I never have to do it again. Never have to do it again. But you know, it it is it is special. So let's talk about the international flower festival. Yeah.

Fireworks, Resorts, And Free Views

SPEAKER_00

I that that was my favorite thing to go to when my husband worked there, and I would go and just walk around and see all the topiaries and the flowers. It's so beautiful out there. And this time of the year in Florida, this is what people up north are jealous of us is this time of the year, because the weather is just spectacular.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you don't have those that 90 degrees unless maybe it's seven days, it's not as humid. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, even if it hits 80, like it hit 80 over the weekend, but it wasn't humid. It's like it's nice, it's comfortable. You can walk around the concrete jungle of Disney and not sweat.

Epcot Flower And Garden Essentials

SPEAKER_03

Right. Well, maybe not. Um, so we're in 2026. This year it's March the 4th through June the 1st. Yes. So that's a long period of time, which is fantastic because everybody has different spring breaks. Everybody comes out. I don't know if you guys know this, but in Florida, our spring breaks are always early. Our kids get on to spring break before everybody comes down here. So um it's a great thing for for people to go to. Um, you can also hunt for Easter eggs just like at Epcot. So we did um one of our podcasts on the trees over at the Magic Kingdom, Disney Spring. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, the maps at at Epcot for that do cost money, but they give you a little prize at the end. So it's it's worth it. It's 10 bucks. So your kids can get a map, they can get the stickers every time they find so it's Easter time. Yeah, it's really fun. Yeah, I want to do it. Yeah, okay, okay. David, David. He's like, Can I bring my kids? Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Easter, Easter this year is on April 5th, and to your point, is really because everybody comes here for spring break. Spring break for us in Florida is like almost two months long.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it really is. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Because when you know the colleges have spring break at different times and the kids in grade school, and then people all over the country come here, their spring breaks are all different types. So it's spring break for us, like with the party hats on and and the decorations last like two months and it's it's and it's applicable.

SPEAKER_03

Well, with that being said, I would say as a Floridian, go earlier in this festival, in these festivals, because it does get jammed up. Once it's because the Easter before and after Easter. Oh, yes. Yeah, oh yeah, it really is. It really is. Um so some of the other things that happened there is you did the Easter, they also have concerts there. What is it? Friday and Saturday nights? I believe so, yes. And they have a list out of the concerts. There's a whole bunch of people. We we saw who who was it that I was like, oh my god, or Springfield. Springfield. Yeah. I mean, number of different. I don't know what you're talking about. Jesse's scared. I don't show my A's. I don't show my A's. Um, but they also have the Garden Grace food stall um passport series. So you get this passport and you go to the different things. So if you purchase five of the 10 featured um dishes at there, um it's called you get five stamps and then you go and you get a specialty food item if you bring your passport after after going to these five different places. Obviously, it is a paid thing. So every stand that you go to, you pay for that food, but you get to choose whatever food you want. And that's all around the park, also. So they they are making it a little bit more interactive. Each year it gets everything gets a little bit more interactive, which is really cool because then the adults want to do it.

SPEAKER_02

Food is something, no, no, food's something I can get by.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay. Oh, so we can take you to the food and wine customers.

SPEAKER_02

That is absolutely something I can get by.

SPEAKER_03

Me too. I mean, all three of us. We're all like foodie central over here. Perfect. So, what else is on your list? Because I talked about that's my favorite thing, is the Epcot in the National Flower Garden. Well, that's what I have. That's what I really wanted to talk about. I and basically I mean, that's the biggest thing during the yeah. Besides the Easter egg displays at all of the resorts that are just gorgeous. Well, because the Magic Kingdom, which everybody calls Walt Disney World, that's the Magic Kingdom to us. So you have the Magic Kingdom, you have Epcot Center. Now, another thing that does happen in the spring, and I don't know if you guys know this, but over at the Animal Kingdom, we're gonna probably see a lot of babies being born because it's springtime. So I want to keep up with which animals they're thinking are going to be having babies because that could be really cool to see new babies coming, you know, to the animal kingdom.

SPEAKER_00

But I mean, well, and we're this is what February that we're posting this. It starts March 4th. We tried to do a little bit of research. Disney actually hasn't fully updated their website website yet for all of the events that are happening. So some of the things that we did find were from last year, and we're not sure it's gonna happen this year, so we don't want to talk too much about them.

Concerts, Garden Graze, And Foodie Fun

SPEAKER_03

But the biggest thing really is that that garden and festival at Epcot is one of their biggest things in the spring. It is, and you know, people come when they come to Walt Disney World. I mean, you have this the main stuff that the rides and you know, the parades, they've changed the parades. I know Starlight is happening at night and you know, different things during the day. Um, and they will have an Easter parade parade going on, which is beautiful, and all the colors are just amazing. Um but Epcot is for this time. Yeah, yeah. Epcot is the place to kind of go for this time, so and that's where I have my show. I was doing a show there um in the 90s again, again, at the fountain, you know. But um, but yeah, it's just a beautiful time of year. And Disney Springs will be like that too. They have a lot of decorations, a lot of beautiful stuff, and a lot of great food there. Yeah, yeah. I like the I like the chocolate at that one restaurant. What is that restaurant called? Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot it. They have a dessert room. I know. All right, I don't know what that one is. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Well that's the rent.

SPEAKER_03

I I don't know. Because I try to avoid it. Yeah, but put out please. I always do. Like that's the one thing I try not to eat when I go there. Because I could just eat and eat and eat. And then we already talked about drinking around the world.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Don't start in Mexico.

SPEAKER_03

No, don't start in Mexico.

SPEAKER_00

Go to the right, go the other way. Mexico's last.

SPEAKER_02

That sounds like some taken.

SPEAKER_03

It is. Yes, I've seen some nasty stuff in Mexico. Don't start in Ecco. Have you ever done that? Drinking around the world? Do you know what it is?

SPEAKER_02

I think a pretty good idea. All the countries in Epcot.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so Epcot Center has a world showcase. So you come, you come, and everybody calls it the golf ball, but you come past the golf ball and you come out of this one area, and then it's a big circle. And you start in the first place to the right. Because Mexico's to the left. And if you start in Mexico, you don't make it past you don't make it past what? Uh a United States. Which the United States is directly across. Right in the middle. Yes, and it goes, yeah, you take and you go like Ireland and um England, France, it's all, you know. And then that's my favorite side personally. Oh yeah. Well, the little French bistro over there is pretty fantastic. And I love the the pub. Why didn't we why park Disney Springs in the spring to drink it out of the room?

SPEAKER_02

Is it like so so what is it what is it like when you walk up? I mean, is it like a bar?

SPEAKER_03

Is it like well doing the food time festival, there are carts set up. We buy small drinks and food.

unknown

Got it.

SPEAKER_03

And that's the garden graze um is similar to very similar to that. So you find these carts that have the specialty items. They're in I don't know if you know this, but especially over at the Magic Kingdom. You you if you see somebody in Frontierland, you're never gonna see them in Tomorrowland, right? And I don't know who knows this or not, but there's underground tunnels, so you go down into the tunnel, you never are gonna be seen in another land. At EBCOT, it's a little bit different, but you're not gonna see somebody from the French area in Mexico. Yeah, okay, because you have backstage called backstage because everybody's a performer there. Um, but those carts stay within those countries, so you know, okay, this this country has changed, even even if the paving changes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Have you not ever been to Epcom?

SPEAKER_02

It's been I think since 1985. Since it was Tomorrowland was talking about today.

SPEAKER_03

I mean it's been while we only need to get him back out. Oh, we do. Well he went last summer, but he didn't with us, so that's why he it it's I think he's afraid of our t-shirts that we wear. I think he's a feature. I think he's afraid of what we put him in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I'm not afraid.

SPEAKER_03

Take him to Mexico and then make him photos on one.

SPEAKER_02

Have fun in other ways. Oh, let's go.

SPEAKER_03

Let's go. Anything else to add? I don't think so. Uh you know, I think for me personally, I love going there because the imagination of these artists is wonderful and it just makes me happy. Yeah, it just makes me happy. It's pretty pretty. It's so sweet. But other places in the country are still with snow on the ground. Yeah. It's gorgeous, and the weather is perfect this time of year over there. Don't forget, it may rain. Bring your ponchos or you can buy them there. We hope it rains. We hope it rains if you want it to rain. We definitely do. But yeah, you know, it is truly for me one of the happiest places on earth. I agree. Yeah. I agree. Just make sure that you plan your day and make sure that you plan your day knowing that that plan made well up.

SPEAKER_02

That's that's key, is is planning it. I don't I don't think Disney is the kind of experience you're gonna enjoy if you just go and try to wing it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I when I was with when my kids were younger, my husband and I, we had this thing of okay, today is the day that they stand in lines to get autographs, and we're gonna be just okay with that because they want to do that.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And now they have places where those characters come and you know, make sure that you get into that line early and things like that. I think that if you're just okay with being in lines, fantastic. You can make it work.

SPEAKER_00

I think people, I think the problem, yes, you have to plan, but I think people overplan and try to fit too much in.

SPEAKER_03

That's yeah, that's why a couple days is good.

Backstage Details And Country Carts

SPEAKER_02

That that goes into the the conundrum of traveling here and feeling like you have to Hey, I only have a finite piece of time before our plane leaves. Yeah, and we're gonna we're gonna by golly, you know, see everything. Everything. Otherwise, what was the point?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But when you live here, it's everything here in a few weeks we can go back.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Well, everyone thinks that because we are in Tampa, like we can't go to D we're so close. Oh, my friends that have season passed here that live over here.

SPEAKER_03

It's so close. You get tired of the beach, you want to do something different.

SPEAKER_02

And and as you become more experienced with all of this, you figure out the times of when to go. It sounds like it sounds like I would say you two are at the kind of the professional level here. I mean you know when to go and when not to, and when to try to beat the crowds and when not.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yes.

SPEAKER_02

You know, that that's that's kind of key too, because there are times, surprisingly, where it is kind of slow. And you can really, really take advantage of those points.

SPEAKER_03

One of the best times to go is like in August, right before all the school is starting. September. September's fantastic. Right after it's gonna be a good thing. They're not thinking about it.

SPEAKER_00

As long as you can handle the heat because it is a little warming, you just carefully. I also find like the first two weeks of January are fairly quiet.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, definitely. The holidays are over, holidays are back to your regular schedules, and those tend to be a little quieter because if you're flexible and we can go to experience at all, yeah. And look, my husband, he carries a backpack, he has snacks in the backpack because you can bring in snacks, you can bring in things. Obviously, same sort of thing. No weapons, nothing like that.

SPEAKER_02

But I I will say I was pleasantly surprised going to Disney this past summer with a family of four. Surprisingly, the food wasn't even as expensive as it would be to go to a hockey game or a football game.

SPEAKER_03

Oh god, no, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Like the food was honestly very, very reasonable.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_02

It was delicious.

SPEAKER_03

It is, yes, very good. I will say this. It's a simple burger and fries, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, in fantasy land or whatever.

SPEAKER_03

You know, somebody who does have dietary restrictions, they also have the availability of gluten free, dairy free. They have All of those things is the best for that. You have to just know which restaurants to go to.

Planning Smart And Avoiding Overplanning

SPEAKER_02

Not to mention, when you ask somebody on the staff, they're always gonna do whatever they can to help.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Which which is a Disney unique experience. I will say that. Well, and I will say this because you're gonna get your hairy eyeball and it's yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So we would have to work there as the chef on duty. If somebody said they had an allergy, he would have to go out there specifically and have a conversation with them. It wasn't just not coming back from the wait staff.

SPEAKER_03

The chef has to go out and have the conversation with you. At least back when he was working down the stream, it's the same. We used to have um when when I was working there and I was in entertainment, we used to have um competitions. Who can help somebody the most today? We did, we did, and and I mean for me, that's why going above and beyond in everything I do, it really comes from my heart because that's the way I was trained, you know, and you do. If you ask somebody something, they're not gonna say, I don't know, and then turn the other direction. Everybody is always going to try to help you as much as they possibly can. Definitely. That's what they're trained to do. That's what I was trained to do. So it's the best, it really is the most practical place.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we hope this episode gave you a little insight to springtime at Disney. Their website will have more about it in the coming days, I'm assuming. But it's Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival is so much fun this time of the year. So if you can ever make it to that, we highly recommend it.

SPEAKER_03

And I think that we should take on second jobs as tour guides. So all our friends or people need to do is go ahead and buy the weekend.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna suggest that that you should become a Disney Cuncier.

SPEAKER_00

Disney concierge. If you need a tour guide to tour the Disney theme parks, here for hire.

SPEAKER_02

And all it costs is a ticket into the will you take my kids and Katie and I can go to Epcot and the kids will go to Magic and Go? No. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

You have to stay with the kids.

Best Months To Go And What To Pack

SPEAKER_02

Okay. But it costs more than just a ticket. That's what makes it honestly going with kids that really helps.

SPEAKER_03

Amazing.

SPEAKER_02

And they're, you know, and they're, you know, they every year, every day they're getting older. In fact, they're gonna rip them.

SPEAKER_03

So it is. And and take advantage. My daughter, she's 13, and it's like, you know what? We're gonna go see my best friend who's still living. And she's like, okay, well, what are we gonna do? I was like, you know, I think we're just gonna go into the park, we're gonna ride Tron, and then we're gonna exit. And she's like, okay, can I get some popcorn?

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

And that's it. That and Tinkerbelt line. You know, that's what she wants to see. So, but that's about it.

SPEAKER_00

All right. Well, until next time, may all your magical journeys come true.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Bye.
