It’s always a great day when you start it with yoga. I got in 2.4 miles on my lunch break, grounded myself in the park, grabbed a Big Mac, cruised around listening to music, hit IKEA with Tay, and wrapped the night with sushi. We love this for me.

This episode is a midweek recap and a real check‑in. I’m off tomorrow, and the whole day is dedicated to self‑care — from my ortho appointment, to a morning hike, nails at noon, and a little shopping right after. A full day of pouring back into me.

A reminder to you on the other side of the audio: make sure you’re always pouring into you, too.

Hello, hello. This is where I landed with Shayla, and I'm so happy to have you here. If this is your first time landing with me, well, hi. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the family. Welcome to uh this is where I landed with Shayla. And if you are a return lander rocking with your girl for a hot little minute, oh my god, can I speak? No. As always. Hello, babe. How are you doing on the opposite side of the audio today? I hope that all is well. I hope that you have been well, taking care of yourself, doing all the beautiful, beautiful things that I'm always trying to encourage you to do. Uh I am off tomorrow. And don't we just love a day off? I know, like you always see those memes where it's like the night before the day off is better than the day off. And that is true because it's just like I know that I don't have to work tomorrow, and I can just be free, living a life of leisure. The life that is meant for me, it has come, basically. And yeah, I love that. Um, I've told you guys before, time and time again, that if you have an appointment, take the whole day off. My uh, because why not? Literally, why not? Um, so I'm using tomorrow as a self-care day. I have it all planned out. I'm gonna wake up, do some yolk. I am gonna work for 30 minutes only. I told myself 30 minutes, Shayla, because I did not do everything that I was supposed to do today, and I'm like, okay, you're gonna be off on Wednesday, middle of the week, come back Thursday, next thing you know, it's Friday. Like, we're not trying to add more work to the end of our work week now, are we? No, okay, work smarter, not harder. Um, so yeah. Um, so I'm gonna work for 30 minutes only. My appointment is at 8 a.m. I know why do I do these things to myself? I'm unsure as well. Originally, I was planning to work, like, so I was gonna just like come in later, like start my day later. Um, and then I was like, actually, no, like we're just gonna take the day. Like, what the heck? Do what you tell the people to do, Shayla. Do what you tell the people to do. So, yeah. Um, I'm thinking maybe after that I want to go on a hike, potentially, because it'll be nice in the morning. The weather here, I know I've been saying it, I'm gonna keep saying it because we are spoiled. The weather today was 80 degrees. Insane. That was the high. Tomorrow's high is 79, and then we'll get to 89, so basically 90 on Saturday. Can't wait. I'm doing uh bikinis and barbecue by the pool because y'all know I've been itching to get to that pool, and anything 90 degrees and above means that I should be there in a bathing suit. So, yes, I cannot wait. But next week, it's gonna be 95 degrees on Wednesday. Oh, thank you, Jesus. My time has come. I thrive off of sunshine and I love the heat. I am a summer baby, okay. I was born in, well, yeah, technically was born in July. I am a Leo, and uh, I just love the sun, I love the warmth of the sun on my skin. I love the golden brown that I become. Um, you know, like as I just get more and more tan. I also really enjoy tanning. Um, and also make sure that you are wearing sunscreen. And if you on the opposite side of this audio is black, African American, however you um, you know, uh identify, please know that you also need to be wearing sunscreen. I'm tired of my people acting like we're not supposed to wear sunscreen because we have melanin. No, you are supposed to use sunscreen, babe. Sorry, I'm yelling at you, but please protect your skin. Everybody needs to protect your skin, okay? These sun rays are nuts. So, yes, please protect your damn skin and put on some sunscreen. Okay. I use black girl sunscreen. I have been using it for some years now. I love it. It comes in like the cream version, the lotion version, um, as well as the spray. And the good thing about the lotion version is it does not make you look gray. Okay, so if you're worried about looking ashy, fear no more. I got you. Okay, I'm coming through with the sun, the sunscreen recommendations over here, babe. Um, but yeah, so I think I'm gonna do that. That'll be nice. But then I'm like, I gotta be dressed to go to my ortho at 8. Like, I'm ready to go for a hike. Do I wanna do that? Is that the vibes? Or do I want to come back, get ready, and go? I don't know, but what I do know, okay, is that I have a nail appointment scheduled for 12 p.m. noon, and I will be there. My nail salon, shout out to them. Um, they close every day at 5 p.m. And I love that, okay, because yes, the employees there also deserve to have a life and family and all those things. Um, and it is, I would say, like a small business because um it's a family-owned business, which I love. Uh, it's a brother, it's a sister who owns it, and her brother works there, and it's an extremely diverse nail salon, which I have not seen before, honestly. Um, there's a black girl that works there, her name is Brittany. There's uh multiple Hispanic people that work there, there are Asian people that work there. Um, but it's very diverse and also really good vibes. They play RB. Whoever gets there first gets to uh be uh the like DJ for the day. Um, so yeah. If you are in the Vegas area, I will shout them out. But please, okay, just make sure I can get my booking, honey. Um, Epic nail salon in Henderson. Shout out to them if you were looking for a nail salon. It really is a really cool vibe over there, so you can check them out. Tell them Shayla sent you. Um, or Shay, okay, period. Um, but yeah. And then I'm gonna go shopping. Asia and I were supposed to go shopping this weekend, but we were just so tired. I told y'all all my weekend plans got canceled uh because yeah, I could not do it. Um, so yeah, I'm gonna go shopping. I haven't been shopping in a hot little minute, and I mean Wook Girl doesn't like to shop. Now, do I need to go shopping? Yes. The answer is yes, I do, because I need new jeans, I need new tops, um, I don't need any shirts. If I leave the store with a graphic, terrible. Okay, I need to stop buying graphics at this point because it's getting a little ridiculous, but I am a graphic t-shirt girly. Like you can catch me at your local farmer's market wearing a graphic t-shirt, probably sweatpants, maybe jeans, um, sneakers, and a cute bag. Okay, like that's my that's my vibe. Literally, that is my vibe. Like, if you were wondering on the opposite side of the audio, right, like what is Shayla's? That's it. A graphic tee, jeans or sweats, sneakers, and a cute bag. The bag is always gonna be, always gonna be a staple, and it will probably always be different because I have many, many bags. I'm a bag girl. I've always loved bags since I was younger. Shout out to my cousin Kim. When I was growing up, Kim would have like all the like hot everything. Like, she would have the Louie bag, the Gucci bag, the Prada bag. Um, now do I have Louie Gucci Prada? No, I don't. I don't like I mean, I I just I don't know. I just can't understand to spend all that money, but I do have some really nice bags that have cost me a nice penny, but not that much of a penny. So um yeah, I'm also getting more into accessories. I always wear my crystal stone, so I have my um my bracelets, and those are pretty stacked. I also were like my cute gold bangles. Um, and yeah, I've been, you know, doing some my cute little glasses, all those things. We're just accessorizing, having fun, have fun with your style. Like, literally, you only live once. Dress however you want to dress. I personally dress off of my mood, so literally every day I will look like a completely different person because every day I feel different, and the vibes are always different. So when I wake up, it depends how I feel. And yeah, recently she's been very light, very airy. I wore uh this like white tank top and this like white um what is it, like workout jacket, I guess. I don't know. Y'all know what I'm talking about, where you can put your thumb through the sleeve. Yeah, one of those. And uh I don't want almost with my direct report. And she was like, White looks good on you. Thank you. I never wear white, I never wear white because I'm clumsy and I am a messy eater, also, and I'm I'm just like, oh, I'm gonna get a stain, like for sure. Like, I'm that girl where I'm like, I don't even wear certain colors because I know that I'm just gonna stain it. And I didn't, shout out to me. Um, but yeah, so then gonna go shopping, um, and then yeah, I have a little uh hangout after. So then I'm so funny. So then uh yeah, and then that will be my my day off. So that'll be lovely. Um, but I'm really looking forward to getting my nails done because if you are a girly that gets your nails done, I got my nails done February 19th, and tomorrow will be the 11th. So I try to do like three weeks, um, and they don't look terrible, honestly, but they need to be done. So can't wait for that. I'll probably be at the nail salon for freaking three hours because I'm uh, you know, obviously nails and pedicure, and I'm soaking these off because I have Gell X, and few care. Um I have Gell X. Um, and so yeah, yeah. So that's tomorrow's plans. But today was a lovely day. I woke up and I slept in by the way, so that was really great. Um, I slept in until almost about seven, and then I did like a 15-minute yoga practice, which was great because I just really needed to just stretch my body and just center myself, and that was like a really great way to start the day. I haven't done yoga in the morning in a hot little minute, so I am trying to get that back into my routine and just being really consistent with that, and I will. So that is on the plans for tomorrow morning as well. I'm gonna um work for 30 minutes only, okay, because we have boundaries. Um, and then I'm going to uh practice some yoga and then I'll get ready to go out to my ortho and start my day. So I'm excited about that. Um, and uh yeah, worked, work has been good, productive, busy though. We have a lot going on, but it's exciting, at least to me. I enjoy like the hustle and the bustle and like process and change management and blah blah blah blah blah. So that makes my little corporate battle heart happy. Um and uh yeah, I decided on my lunch break that I was gonna go for a walk. So this morning I was supposed to wake up early, and my intention was either to do yoga or go for a walk, or both, but because I slept in, I only had time for the yoga. So on my lunch break, I decided to go for a walk, and I decided to walk to the park, and y'all know I love the park, honey. And what did I do? Yep, sure did. Took my shoes off, took my socks off, and I grounded in the grass, and it was absolutely beautiful. The sun was hitting me, I was happy, the vibes were high, and yeah, I just it's something about grounding, which obviously it's literally like exactly what it says like just like grounding yourself in just the nature of it all, and of course, like the birds were chirping, and just like the beauty of the greenery at that park. I really love and enjoy, and it was really great to just have that moment by myself. I was listening to music, um, and literally just vibing, honestly. And it was great, I really enjoyed it, and that was just like a really nice middle part to my day, um, because I was already up and out. Uh, and there's a McDonald's close by. I got McDonald's and I got myself a Big Mac. I love a good number one, a number one medium uh barbecue sauce with a Sprite. Ooh, now do I need to drink the Sprite? No, and that's why I didn't get that today. I literally only got the Big Mac. Shout out to me. Um, and I was literally rushing back home because I had a meeting at 12:30. So I was like, okay, I got the Big Mac, didn't even eat it there. My intention was to eat there, but I stayed longer at the park because that's what mattered the most to me, and I knew that I could at least grab the McDonald's and take it home. So I only got a Big Mac because I didn't want fries because I knew hello, the fries are gonna be hot and fresh. If I cannot eat the fries hot and fresh from McDonald's specifically, I'm not getting them. Um, so I just got the Big Mac, but I was really craving that, so it was fine. I was cool with it, but yeah, got that power walked home, and I ended up walking like I think it was like 2.4 miles. Um, so that was really great. I enjoyed that. Um, and yeah, it was good to just move my body. I was super hungry after, so I was like eating everything. I ate that Big Mac in like five minutes, and then after that, I ate a leftover steak salad that I got from the Thai place by my house. Then I had some chomps, uh, which is like beef jerky sticks, and uh yeah, some sun chips. Your girl was hungry. I said, Oh, I need to start moving during the day like that more often so I can start eating like that. So, yeah, I was like, oh my god, have I never eaten before? Like that's low-key. You know, like when you work out, and then after you're like, oh, I'm starved. Actually, I'm famished. That's how I that's how I felt. Um, and then after that, what did I do? Mm-hmm. Yeah, I just like kind of lounged around, and then I uh called Taylor and I was like, What are you doing? And she was like eating dinner and watching Bridgeton, and I was like, Wanna go for a drive? So I went and picked Taylor up, and that was fun. Um, and we went to IKEA real girl things, guys, real girl things. We went to IKEA and we walked around IKEA and we sat in all the cute little living rooms and talked as if it was our own living room, and we felt like we were going in and out of people's apartments, and we had the time. We had such a good time, such a good time. I love hanging out with my friends, and I love hanging out with Taylor specifically because Taylor is just so Taylor is just different, like Tay is just so pure hearted, and it's just the cutest little thing. She's from like this town called Sugar Grove, and I think that says a lot about her, you know, like Sugar Grove, like what that's so cute, and they used to like ride bikes around their like town, you know, like that's adorable. And so being like me, where I'm from literally the city, and then having a friend like Taylor, it's like such a interesting, like dynamic and balance, but I love it. Um, but yeah, we had a good time, and then yeah, I just had a nice drive home listening to music and just being in my own little world, and that was my day. So yeah, this is just my you know, my little midweek recap, checking in with you guys, sharing a little bit about what's going on with me. I realized, oh, how did I forget that on my way home I stopped and got sushi for my favorite sushi place that I haven't gotten in a hot little minute, and I got fried rice, no egg, and uh uh baked lobster roll. 10 out of 10. Okay, 10 out of 10. Now I'm ready to go to bed. Uh, but yeah. Uh I think that's it. Literally, I just want to tell you guys about my day. Um, but I hope that you had a great day on the opposite side of this audio. I hope that, you know, you also had some moments for yourself. I hope that you had some moments where you were able to check in with your community, with your people, with yourself. I hope that you were able to get outside, move your body. The weather has turned, so that's great. I know, um, yeah, it's like it was 70 degrees in New York and in New Jersey, over 70 degrees in Jersey. I love that for y'all because y'all have been in the little winter apocalypse over there. All that snow and the negative degree, the negative degrees is what really got me. I said, Yeah, nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Where will I move next when I'm ready to leave here? I don't know, but I know it won't be the East Coast because negative thinking about it is just too much. But um, yeah, I'm signing out, and we will chat again on Friday. What will Friday's episode be about? Dun dun dun dun. I don't know, but stay tuned. Remember, you are that guy, you are that girl, you are whomever you choose to be, and I love you.
