What if deliverance isn’t about leaving your past, but about letting God remove your past from you? We open a candid, hope-filled exploration of freedom that lasts—moving beyond emotional highs and into the daily, Spirit-led process that transforms the heart, retrains the mind, and redirects desire toward purpose.

We start by untangling a common trap: mistaking a moment of relief for true spiritual change. Through the lens of Israel’s journey, we show how God can change your location in a night but spend years renewing your mindset. You’ll hear how cooperation with the Holy Spirit turns conviction into growth, why Lazarus being raised yet still bound matters for modern discipleship, and how refusing to release old ties keeps us from walking into new life. Instead of settling for a temporary escape, we lean into practices that build durable freedom: surrender, Scripture, community, and consistent obedience.

A key theme threads through every segment: deliverance that isn’t followed by discipleship often leads to relapse. Jesus warned about the danger of an empty house; we respond by inviting God to fill us with His Spirit, Truth, and purpose so there’s no room for what once controlled us. This conversation is tender and direct, including a personal reflection on hidden battles and the moment surrender made freedom real. If you’re ready to move from crisis to calling, from breaking chains to learning how to walk without them, this message will give you language, steps, and hope.

Defining True Deliverance

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to another powerful episode of Change Life in Christ, and I'm your host, Reverend Corey Young. And today we're talking about something that goes far beyond the surface. We're talking about true deliverance. You see, too many people want to be delivered from something, but God wants to deliver you through something. Deliverance is not just about escaping your past, it's about being transformed by God's power so you never go back. Let's dive into the episode. Deliverance is more than a moment. Deliverance is a process. Many people mistake emotional relief for spiritual deliverance. They cry, shout, or feel good for a moment, but never let go and let God renew their minds. That's why they end up back where they started. Deliverance isn't just an event. Deliverance in itself is a process of transformation. When God delivers you, he doesn't just pull you out of darkness, he pulls you from the darkness and he takes the darkness out of you. Think about Israel. God delivered them out of Egypt in one night, but it took 40 years to get Egypt out of them. Why? Because they were free physically, but still bound mentally. You can change your environment, but if you don't let God change your mindset, you'll repeat your old patterns in new places. True deliverance starts when you stop asking God to change your situation and start asking him to change you. Deliverance requires full cooperation with the Holy Spirit. Deliverance is not just about what God does for you, it's about what you allow him to do in you. Some people want God to break the chains but still hold on to the shackles. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he said, lose him and let him go. That's John chapter 11, verse 44. Lazarus was alive but still bound. Some of us are saved but still struggle because we haven't allowed the Spirit to remove what's still wrapping us up. You can't walk in freedom while staying connected to what God is trying to deliver you from. The Holy Spirit's job is not just to comfort, it's to confront. When the Spirit convicts you, don't resist. Respond. Let him deal with the habits, the relationships, and the patterns that keep pulling you backwards. Deliverance isn't just about shouting, it's about surrendering. Deliverance replaces what darkness removed. When God delivers you, he doesn't leave you empty. He fills you with purpose. That's why Jesus said in Matthew 12, 43 through 45, that when an unclean spirit leaves a person, it looks for a place to rest. If it returns and finds the house empty, it brings seven more spirits worse than before. Deliverance that isn't followed by discipleship leads to relapse. God doesn't just want to free you, he wants to fill you. When you're filled with his spirit, there's no room for what used to bond you. When you fill your mind with his word, your thought begins to shift. When you fill your time with his purpose, your desires begin to change. True deliverance is not freedom from sin alone, it's freedom for purpose. Don't just ask God to take the chains off, ask him to teach you how to walk without them. Here's a word of reflection. I want you to hear this from my heart. I know what it's like to be bound by things that nobody else can see. You can look free on the outside, but still be fighting something on the inside. But when I truly surrender my life to Christ, when I stopped running, stopped pretending, and said, Lord, I can't do this without you, that's when deliverance became real. Deliverance is not about behavior or modification, it's about heart transformation. It's when the Spirit of God steps in and says, You don't have to live like that anymore. You don't have to carry that pain. You don't have to fight that battle alone. And when he sets you free, you are free indeed. Let us close with a final prayer. Father, we thank you for your power to deliver. Not just to change our situation, but to change our hearts. Lord, deliver us from everything that separates us from you, from pride, from fear, from sin, from the lies that tell us we can't be free. Fill every empty space in us with your spirit, your peace, and your purpose, and help us walk daily in the freedom that only comes through Jesus Christ. In his name we pray. Amen. Thank you for joining me today on A Changed Life in Christ, and I'm your host, Reverend Corey Young. Remember, true deliverance isn't about escaping the past, it's about embracing your purpose. Let this episode bless you. Share it with someone who needs to hear that freedom is still possible. Until next time, keep walking in power, keep living in grace, and always remember you are changed in Christ.
