There’s a kind of exhaustion no one talks about…
The mental load of worrying about your kids when they’re with a narcissistic co-parent. The constant overthinking, the emotional restraint, and the invisible work of staying calm through it all.

In this episode, we’re talking about the reality of holding it together—managing communication through grey rock, protecting your peace while still co-parenting, and trying to heal from past abuse while still being connected to it.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t get a break—even when your kids aren’t with you—this episode is for you.

You’re not overreacting. You’re carrying a lot. And you’re not alone 🤍

Welcome to the bestie space. I'm also gonna call the breakthrough guy couch in a moment telling us what it's like to feel stuck on down in a need of a friend. This podcast is your soft place to land and your strong place to rise. We're talking real life healing, emotional empowerment, and how to move forward when life feels like it cracked you open. So grab a coffee, take a deep breath, and listen in to some real talk, bestie. I'm here for you. Hey besties, welcome back to the besties space, or welcome to the bestie space. If this is the first time you are listening in, I am Nicole, I am the host, and this is a space where we talk about real things, the heavy things, and all the healing in between. Today's episode is one for the moms, for the caregivers, and the ones that are carrying a weight that no one else can fully see. What I am talking about is the mental load of worrying about your kids when they are with a narcissistic co-parent, the emotional exhaustion of staying in that gray rock mode that you have to, and what it feels like to try to heal while still being connected to the person that hurt you. If this is your reality, I just want to start off by saying you are not crazy, you are not overreacting, and you are not alone. There is a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from this situation. I know it. I live it. Because even when your kids aren't with you, your mind is. Even when you're tired, even when you're triggered, even when you wish it was easier, that strength doesn't get enough credit. Doesn't get enough credit. So if this is your life right now, Bessie, you don't need to handle it better. What you need is support. You need support. And that might look like having one safe person that you can vent to without judgment and letting them know that you don't expect them to fix the situation. You just need to get it off your chest. It might also look like writing things out instead of holding them in. When we overthink and we stew and we let those thoughts spiral in our head, that is not healthy. So maybe it means that you just need to write down the answer that you wanted or the response you wanted to say, and instead you just responded in the text, that's not true, or thanks. Take those real emotions, put them somewhere safe, and get them off your chest. It might also look like you creating some small rituals that help calm your system and help calm your kids or give some stability whether they're leaving or returning. Our children are seeking consistency. And if you are listening to this, I can guarantee you that you are that safe person and you are trying to do the best that you can. And I want you to also know that reminding yourself that you can't control everything, but you can control what they are feeling and experiencing when they are with you is very powerful. I want you to give yourself permission to say, this is hard, and I don't want you to minimize it, I don't want you to compare it to somebody else. I just want you to acknowledge that what you are doing right now is really freaking hard. Healing is this process, it is not an endpoint. And when you have to be in a situation that doesn't always look peaceful, it can require you to choose not to respond. It can also mean that you have to catch yourself before reacting. But I want to acknowledge that you being triggered or having these moments and then still showing up is doing so much work on your healing journey, and you should be proud of that. That's what counts, that's what matters. That is truly healing. So, Bestie, if this episode felt close to home, if you have been carrying this invisible weight, I just want you to know you don't have to hold it all by yourself. If you need space to process, to feel supported, to reconnect with yourself outside of what you are currently in, I would be so grateful to work with you in a safe, judgment-free space. You are always able to find the link in the show notes. So next time, Bestie, I want you to just take a moment and breathe and be gentle with yourself. You are doing something incredibly hard, and you are doing it with so much love, and that matters way more than you know. Thank you so much for being here in the bestie space. If this episode spoke to you, make sure that you send it to a friend or share it on social and take me. Coffee underscore n underscore gratitude. Please also consider leaving me a five-star review.
