In this episode we discuss all kinds of natural anomalies across our big beautiful planet! Erica is G-hosting with us today so you know that means we will be discussing the pirates "I Will Not Touch Mysterious Idols Agreement" at the end of the episode. Our crystal of the week is Green Calcite, Stay Chaotic!

Send us your experience!

SPEAKER_04

Just play it first.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to Conjuring Chaos, where three witchy weirdos with microphones. I'm Allie, and these are my co co-hosts Chase and Erica. And I'm not wearing socks right now.

SPEAKER_01

I am.

SPEAKER_03

And we're here to tell you something weird. Let's set the vibe. Let's go ahead and take our deep breath in. And out. We all be small lung in it today.

SPEAKER_02

I can't breathe very well. Anytime I do that with you, like with you guys, it reminds me of the Sanderson sisters.

SPEAKER_03

I'm clearly Jessica Sarah Jessica Parker.

SPEAKER_02

You know what? That makes sense.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it does. I'm Dits T A S.

SPEAKER_02

I'm with a crooked smile.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The the short one. Yeah, I'm the dumb one. And then Erica's the boss bitch. She's the one that can sing. Yeah. Oh no, no, wait. That's so accurate. Yes. I love that you were immediately like, oh no, Chase can sing. Clearly, the people who have listened to this podcast for the last six months know we're wrong. All I can sing is Angela's apparition.

SPEAKER_02

Which is not happening right now. That was not the intro. Oh, sorry. Angela's apparition.

SPEAKER_03

Anyways, um, Erica, you want to go ahead and pull the finger for us? I do. So Erica's gonna put her fingers up and she's gonna put her right down. Right down. Um she needs that today.

SPEAKER_01

Number one.

SPEAKER_03

Oh! I was wondering when we were gonna get number one, just like the middle finger.

SPEAKER_01

Nice number one. I'm strong as fuck, and I've got this.

SPEAKER_02

Hey! Finger is definitely uh for you.

SPEAKER_03

The finger is up and the fuck is definitely down with this one. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So this is one of the things that we got kind of brought up on, but I just think it's fun to announce it to people too. But like the anytime that we've pulled out these um badass affirmations, they seem to really go with like something that's going on at that moment.

SPEAKER_03

Very resonating, yeah. They tend to resonate, which is a wonderful synchronicity for a podcast that does not believe in coincidences. So just remember, if you're feeling down right now, you've got this. You fucking have this. Yeah, absolutely. Allie and I look in the mirror every day and say, I can do this. And I know because on Finch we have to click the little check mark and then it lets the other person know. So and you can like the other person's check mark. I keep forgetting to like yours, but it's very fun.

SPEAKER_02

It keeps my tasks on point. This is a promotion, by the way. Sponsorship.

SPEAKER_03

We would love it to be though. Finch is just fun. Finch, Finch, Finch, please ask us to sponsor you. Please sponsor us, Finch. We love you. You've changed our lives in positive ways. Sponsor us. So, Ali, what's chaotic in your life this week?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, man. Um, so actually, I've got some good chaos going on. Nice! Uh I actually got promoted not too long ago. So now I am an area manager and training. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_03

They're watching your growth through the episodes, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. So that's the good thing. It's like I I grew I tend to grow pretty, I I would think pretty quickly. But um the only reason I say that it's good chaos is because there's a lot of change that comes with it. So maybe about a month ago, I was um managing a store that was like really far like two hours away from our home base, pretty much, and that was the only store I was taking care of, and it had a lot of issues that I needed to juggle. Um, and then I quickly picked up a second store with it, and as soon as I picked up that second store, all the stuff that I had to do crumbled down. So um they moved me from the location. As that happens, you know, that's natural. So uh from literally like one week to the next, I got put in charge of another store that actually has like a manager and an assistant manager, so I don't have to be there all the time to do all of the work. Nice. And so I went from all of my time going to work to now I have like actually some time to do fun things, and I'm it's weird to breathe, and it's getting my body sometime, like taking it a minute to get used to like the like not having to do so much.

SPEAKER_03

But it's good for you, it's good for you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so good case.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I can definitely empathize with that because when I first picked up my fifth store, um, I didn't have a manager at three of my five locations. Yeah, and the manager at one of my locations was very two-faced and very backstabby, and I didn't know that. So it's nice that you have like the proper balance for someone in your current position. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god. So, Chase, what is uh what's chaotic in your lungs for you?

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so I gotta love and I'm gonna open it on air. So here's some Asmar.

SPEAKER_02

And just to let you guys know, uh, for those of you listening on the podcast, we will have this recorded.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, it's on the tiki talkie. Tiki tocks. What color is it gonna be? Let's see. I think it's gonna be blue. It looks peach pink through the bag. I love the rainbow.

unknown

It does look peach pink.

SPEAKER_03

I got the pink one! Oh my goodness. Oh, it's so cute. Look, it's like pink, orange, and yellow. It looks like sherbet. I love it. They have names. This one, it does look like sherbet, loyalty. How cute okay, and then it gets even better. Okay, but it gets better. Because I got a little dino suit, but I also got it a different suit. Oh, they come with clothes? You can buy clothes for them. Look at this suit that I got.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_03

Hold on.

SPEAKER_02

Look, look, Allie. Allie. You should have done the thing where you like just dropped it on the laboo-boo and then. That's that's okay.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not that special or fancy.

SPEAKER_02

Is it corn?

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna have to cut little hand holes for it in this. Oh my god. I hear the ice maker. The look on your face right now.

SPEAKER_02

It's that thing, but yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't know if that was a vacuum cleaner or uh the look on Ali's face as I put this costume on this labo-boo, is just she looks like this. Just just wait until you see the whole thing. They can kind of see it, they can kind of see what's going on. It's corny. It's actually look at the little corn. So ridiculous. This is our conjuring chaos in the boo-boo. It's going to conjure chaos.

unknown

So cute.

SPEAKER_02

It's funny because uh me and Louis were talking about how like just how much I really enjoy this bracelet right now, and how it's a protection bracelet. And then I remember we were opening this to the boo-boo, and I think they're demons. So they're not demons. It's protection braces from the boo-boo. Mischievous forest critters. Mischievous forest critters. Sound like demon to me. It's Faye. It's a Faye. That those are the people that steal your names.

SPEAKER_03

It's so cute.

SPEAKER_02

What are you gonna put it on your keychain? I have no clue yet. Hey, I I'm I like how happy this makes you.

SPEAKER_03

And the fact that it wasn't the purple one makes me extra happy. All chaos aside.

SPEAKER_02

Now let's get down to the real chaos.

SPEAKER_03

Let's get down to the real chaos. So this week, for y'all, uh, first of all, we have our ge host on the podcast, our guest host, you know, Erica.

SPEAKER_02

Hi.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Don't be so shy. You've been here before.

SPEAKER_03

So, right? So, um, you know, for her like hundredth appearance, I'm kidding, we only have 30-something episodes. As a surprise for her, of course, y'all already know we will have something pirate themed at the end of this episode. And um, speaking of this episode, we're gonna be discussing anomalous locations today. I hope I think it'll be fun, especially after last week's episode. Yeah, something that's like more on the weird side than the uh unsettling side.

SPEAKER_00

This is a weird name.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, so um, first of all, we're good luck to all of us on pronouncing some of these places because I know some of them are kind of crazy. But yeah, Erica, go ahead and start us off with our first anomalous location.

SPEAKER_01

Um I'm gonna start by saying I'm dyslexic, so don't judge me. Alright, um yeah, so don't judge me. Dyslexic. Um the Richette structure in I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Mauritania, maybe.

SPEAKER_01

It sounds like something from a bird movie or something. Mauritania.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe that sounds like a planet, like um like out of a sci-fi movie or something, right?

SPEAKER_01

It sounds fake, but sorry if you live there. Um I'm not trying to be mean. Okay. Um, known as the Eye of the Sahara. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

So it's in the Sahara.

SPEAKER_01

This 25 mile wide circular feature is still massive. Um it can be seen from space. Once uh once thought to be an impact crater, scientists now believe it's a deeply eroded geological dome, but its near perfect symmetry remains a mystery.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. So lately I've been looking up at different um like craters that have hit.

SPEAKER_01

Oh god, oh god. Turn on the ghost thing.

SPEAKER_04

Did we just get that on recording?

SPEAKER_03

Maybe our womp womp button is haunted. It just it hit red twice. How does the ghost possess the womp womp button? Because it's got electronics in it. Wild. Okay. Wow. Is that what you were asking for? Was this Okay, okay. Whew, anyways, Allie, tell us about our next uh location while I get goosebumps in a warm room.

SPEAKER_02

So, anyways, the next uh the next place on our list is magnetic hills. These gravity hills appear in several locations, including India, Canada, and the United States. An optical illusion caused by the horizon line and surrounding landscape. The effect tricks the brain into perceiving slight downhill slope as an uphill one, causing cars in neutral to appear to roll uphill. That is pretty cool. So I got a little excited in the middle of it because I've got to be. I could tell yeah, so I I gotten excited because I thought it was the one where the water looks like it's going upwards. But um, I still think it's cool because I have seen like I I think I've seen this on TikTok or something where they talked about it, but I haven't seen it yet, so I'll probably look up Megan. I want to see I just want to see cars that aren't doing anything going uphill when they're not. That seems like fun.

SPEAKER_03

Supposedly there's a place here in town that um well up the road in town, but in the city, that um that has like a railroad track. And if you park your car on the railroad on the railroad track at night and you leave your car in neutral, it'll roll off the track, and supposedly it'll be like little handprints across the back of your car, like kids pushed it off the track.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there I think a lot of different places have that same. I don't know if it's like an old internet at this point or whatnot. Definitely. I know in El Paso there was one like that too, where it's like you took your car to a certain spot and you put like baby powder on it, you can see like the handprints.

SPEAKER_01

It's like a bridge, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, some uh here it's a railroad track.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Over I think over there is a hill.

SPEAKER_01

I both want to do it and then too scared to do it at the same time. We should just do it.

SPEAKER_05

I I don't think I honestly don't think it's like right.

SPEAKER_03

I know. I'm always really skeptical of urban levels.

SPEAKER_01

And well, let's all go and we'll just hold hands. It'll be okay.

SPEAKER_03

There's one uh near Fredericksburg that my boyfriend says is similar. That they went out there and like weird stuff started happening, and like they started getting scared, and all of a sudden it sounded like someone smacked the side of the car, and when they got out of the car and looked at it, there was a handprint in the dust that was bigger than like a normal human handprint would be.

SPEAKER_01

My curiosity is I wonder if there is a group of people that make things happen at these places to try and scare people.

SPEAKER_03

Right, like some locals that are like creating the world's strongest hoaxes. Yeah. This is why Scooby-Doo is a thing. This is why this is why the Loch Les Loch Ness monster is a thing. So I'm gonna tell you about the crooked forest in Poland. I got the easiest one to pronounce. Well, magnetic is pretty easy. Oh, that's what I get for saying something. Near the town of Gryffino. Griffino Gryfine G-R-Y-F-I-N-O, a groove of about 400 pine trees has trunks that are bent at like this crazy 90-degree angle before they start to grow straight up. Oh wow. So yeah. The most common theory is that they were like deliberately shaped that way by humans, like the people like pulled it down and then let it go or whatever. Um, but the exact purpose and cause is unknown. And um people say that like heavy snow or like a weird gravitational pull is what causes it. But I don't know if you've ever seen pictures of this place, but literally like a 90-degree bend in the thing where it starts to go straight of parallel to the ground and then it like fish hooks up towards the sky again.

SPEAKER_02

And what uh what let me see, I'm gonna look at it on the The Crooked Forest.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh, see what he said. Isn't that what they do with bonsai trees? Like they shape them, kinda sorta.

SPEAKER_03

It's a little bit different because with bonsai, what you do is they get to a certain size, and then you wrap them with wires and bend the wires in the shape that you want, and eventually, like the tree either grows over the wire or it grows enough that you can pull the wire off and it stays in that same shape. So it's similar, but it doesn't necessarily cause that like 90-degree bend that you see in the forest.

SPEAKER_02

They actually look like little chairs, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they there's actually someone who cut down some of them and made chairs out of them. Yeah. Oh wow. They look like they're like sitting, a big J sitting on the ground.

SPEAKER_01

Have y'all seen Milana?

SPEAKER_03

Have not.

SPEAKER_01

Well, do you know what Maui's like hook looks like?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, it looks like. Okay, okay. They should have called it hook for us. It reminds me of uh the episode in SpongeBob. Oh my god, me too!

SPEAKER_03

That's so funny.

SPEAKER_02

Right the hooks.

SPEAKER_03

I swear we share a brain sometimes, Maui. It's almost scary. Y'all don't like me.

SPEAKER_01

Well god, something else hard to pronounce.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So next we have the Kursk magnetic anomaly in Russia. Um, this is a patch of land in Western Russia that has a high concentration of iron ore.

SPEAKER_00

It causes iron or iron ores.

SPEAKER_01

Ore. But yeah, probably those two. Um, it causes compasses to behave erratically. Um it's one of the world's largest m magnetic anomalies. What?

SPEAKER_02

So I uh that's cool. I remember that being a thing in one of the movies uh without a paddle when they were like walking and oh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So it has something to do with the.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Well, I mean they weren't in Russia, but no, they weren't cool up there.

SPEAKER_03

Because that's not where um DB Cooper. They're looking for the DB Cooper, and we know I don't know where it's supposed to be, but I don't think it's in Russia. Oh my god, the EMF is going insane! We said DB Cooper and it hit red. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It was weird. It was going crazy for a minute and then it just Are you a treasure hunter?

SPEAKER_03

Are you hunting for treasure?

SPEAKER_02

Do you know where DB Cooper put the money?

SPEAKER_03

Okay. It doesn't know. Please tell us if you find out.

SPEAKER_02

Um, let's see. Ooh, I like this one. The Bermuda Triangle. Okay, Atlantic Ocean. Um, I I feel like nobody's talked about the Bermuda Triangle in a long time.

SPEAKER_03

I actually have some science for you when you finish, but go ahead and tell us about it.

SPEAKER_02

So, for those of you that don't know what the Bermuda Triangle is, the region has long been known for stories of ships and planes disappearing without a trace. While some incidents have natural explanations like hurricanes, the area's reputation for mystery continues to captivate the public. That I mean, that was one that we all kind of like, I mean, at least I grew up with for a long time, always wanting to fly through it or go through it. No, I never had any aliens take you or just something happens.

SPEAKER_03

I have no urge to die in the Bermuda Triangle. I don't want to die.

SPEAKER_02

I think I wanna I want to know where everything goes. I don't think it dies because it's not found.

SPEAKER_03

That's the thing, it's not found. Lots of interesting things. There's a lot of theories around wormholes there. There's a documentary I watched about a flight where someone like jumped from Bermuda Triangle to like over Florida within like a 10-minute time span, and it should have taken them like four hours to do that. It's wild. So there's beliefs of like wormholes, but I'm about to drop a depressing science fact on you. Okay. Okay. The Bermuda Triangle is just a natural anomaly. That's all it's natural anomaly. That's all it is. So what happens is these massive clouds of methane bubbles come up from the sea, not sea life, but like the plant life that's under the water, specifically in the Bermuda Triangle. It's because the its specific spot in the ocean, the way that the currents go, the temperature, the water all year round, um, is so consistent that it grows plant life there that doesn't grow anywhere else in the ocean. And because of that, these plants actually produce a really high level of methane from from whatever, right? And so um what happens is they release these massive, like huge, like smallest that you're gonna get is like the size of a house. Clouds of bubbles that are full of methane bubbles. And so, like, like literally these bubbles are like the size of a house, you know, they're massive. So they're so there's so many of these bubbles that what they do is they change the density of the water underneath ships, and it causes ships to sink. Oh literally, like all these bubbles come up underneath the s the ship and they swallow it whole because it makes the water basically open up like a mouth almost, right? Um, Mythbusters, I think, did an episode on it. Additionally, once they hit the surface, the methane continues to rise in the air until it hits until it like you know hits the ozone and stops at the ozone or whatever. So when a plane is flying and a methane, a cloud of methane is in the way of this plane, and this plane flies through a quarter mile of methane, it no longer has the oxygen it needs to fire and combust the engine fuel inside of its engine. So it causes the plane to crash into the water. And that's what's actually the cause of all of the disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle. It's just methane. So when did they figure this out? It's just water plant farts. Water plant farts. In the late 90s, that's when they figured it out. I've watched the documentary too many times because my dad was obsessed with it.

SPEAKER_01

I'm a little disappointed.

SPEAKER_03

I know, right? Just just a lot of methane. Just plant farts. Just plant farts. Now I have some anomalous natural phenomena for us to talk about. Um, this first one is Lake Hillier in Australia. Just lost all of our Australian fans. Located on Middle Island. This lake is famous for its bubblegum pink color that remains year-round. It's a what? Bubblegum pink color. And I'm telling you, you can literally find it on Google Maps. Like you can go on there, put it in earth mode, zoom in, and you will find a bright bubblegum pink lake in the middle of Australia. And scientists believe that the color is caused by a combination of high salt levels and a specific type of algae and pink bacteria, though the exact mechanism is not fully understood. And this is have you ever seen the pink face mud that you can buy? Oh, yeah. This is that's where they get it from.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so it's the algae in it that makes it pink.

SPEAKER_03

Algae, bacteria, and salt levels, and other things. It's really pretty.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, and just to let you know, it is it is safe for swimming.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. It absolutely is safe for swimming.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, um next we have the spotted lake in British Columbia, Canada. A lake that appears as a collection of vibrant pools of water with distinct mineral colours during the summer months. The spots are large mineral deposits that remain after the water evaporates.

SPEAKER_02

Spotted lake. Wait, what? Oh my god, it looks like the water is made of a fucking rock.

SPEAKER_05

Oh. What's going on?

SPEAKER_03

Whoa! Oh wow! If someone had tripophobia, that would really trigger them. Wicked. It almost looks like a cat.

SPEAKER_02

Like, well, I mean, looking at it from far away or this big picture, they look like it looks like a countertop or something.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it looks like um, I don't like like around a pool when you get the like big gravel. You know what I'm talking about? Where it's got like the concrete and then they push big gravel down into it. That's what it reminds me of. That is so pretty. I have to see hold on.

SPEAKER_02

This is just a list of places that we need to go to now.

SPEAKER_01

Pretty much.

SPEAKER_03

Whoa! This is what it looks like from the air. It literally looks like like pool, like pool uh concrete. Wild.

SPEAKER_01

It looks like those little dry patches that you get in the desert.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, it does. So we talked about the spotted lake, but now we talk about the vanishing sea. Oh that sounds cool.

SPEAKER_03

It does. But also slightly terrifying. What if you're in it when it vanishes? Is this like the island from Lost? Does it move?

SPEAKER_02

And they find it years later. So the Vanishing Sea is located in Shandipur, India. A unique phenomena where the sea dramatically recedes up to five kilometers, three miles for us Americans, twice a day during low tides. So it recedes a lot. Uh revealing a large expanse of sand. This is caused by the exceptionally flat seabed and the extreme range between high and low tides. Huh.

SPEAKER_03

That is really cool. Well, since it's so flat, that makes sense because if it raises, you know, if the sea level raises only two feet there, that could be potentially that far if it's that flat or that um low of a of a grade.

SPEAKER_02

I like when uh low tide comes in because that's when the best rock hunting happens.

SPEAKER_01

That's true.

SPEAKER_02

For sure. It's funny, I'm trying to look for the vanishing sea, and all that comes up is this book. Interesting.

SPEAKER_03

You mean it's vanished all the way? Uh the title of it. Arrow became the Arrol Desert. Oh. Sorry. Interesting. Okay, now I'm gonna tell you about Eternal Flame Falls in New York. That sounds absolutely beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Oh my god, hey, think it is gonna be terrifying. In the Shale Creek Preserve, a small waterfall contains a naturally occurring flame that burns behind the curtain of water. Okay, that's kind of cool actually. I bet that's pretty. The flame is fueled by natural gas seeping through the cracks in the shale below. That's actually kind of terrifying because it makes me feel like it's the wick of, you know what I mean? Like that always makes me so scared when there's like a big mass of gas and it's burning at the top. Like, what if that flame makes its way down into that cavity and then it implodes, you know, yeah, and it like you know, like combusts. That'd be terrifying. You know what also combusts? Kernels in the microwave. Oh shit. When you're dropping corn. I'm getting really good at these segue. Here you are.

SPEAKER_02

It's a curse.

SPEAKER_03

So Allie and Erica. What do you call an alligator in a vest?

SPEAKER_00

Alligator in a vest. Alligator.

SPEAKER_03

Um invest a gator. Because we don't have butums.

SPEAKER_01

I can do it. Oh, okay. Hold up.

SPEAKER_03

Nobody look at her. But um.

SPEAKER_02

I thought it was cute, but that was probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

SPEAKER_03

It's a good button. I think it think it's a good one. But one other. Agree to disagree.

SPEAKER_01

Every single one of these makes me just shake my head.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, that's the point.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, with okay. Um, this is called Blood Falls in Antarctica. Oh, I've heard of this one actually. So it's crimson colored salt water and it flows from Ta the Taylor Gray.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god. Well, and what's it only one second? It literally-like I just saw something I wasn't supposed to. Right?

SPEAKER_01

It literally looks like blood.

SPEAKER_03

It literally looks like blood. Wowza!

SPEAKER_01

Um, everything's white, and then it's just really red.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so it's a crimson-colored salt water, and it flows from the Taylor glacier onto the white ice. The color comes from the iron-rich salt water that's trapped underneath the glacier um for millions of years, and it oxidizes when it's exposed to the air.

SPEAKER_03

That's what makes it turn red.

SPEAKER_01

When I think of oxidation, I think of orange, not like right, like a rust color.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's that's like in some pictures it does look more rusty.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like this one has a mix of both. Like it's definitely red or coming down.

SPEAKER_01

Imagine not knowing, and you're just like chillin', exploring Antarctica, and then you're like, Well, that's a good thing. I know, right?

SPEAKER_02

A lot of the reasons that we have so many um what's it called? Like urban legends and myths and stuff, is because people who didn't know about what any of this science stuff was back then would see it, and they're like, Oh, yeah, no, God's causing all that water to turn into blood. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, wait, it's wine. It's wine.

SPEAKER_02

Drink it. Oh, I was like, what are you passing? Not what you want. I'm just kidding. Let's see. Our next anomalous location is Socotra Island in Yemen. Due to millions of years of isolation, this island is home to unique and alien-looking flora. Most famously the dragon's blood tree and the bulbous bottle tree. I need to look these up. Dragon what?

SPEAKER_03

My service is not working very well.

SPEAKER_02

Dragon's Blood Tree. I like this blood themed everything.

SPEAKER_03

It is very blood theme. Scatra Island in Yemen. Oh, whoa, that's kind of cool. It does look unearthly. Unearthly?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I have seen that picture of the dragon tree. So it's the one that looks like a giant mushroom. Yeah. And it bleeds.

SPEAKER_04

What?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, it bleeds when you cut it. Oh god, it literally looks like real blood. That's almost it's almost disturbing. I feel like it would scream. Like this. Or this.

SPEAKER_02

I wonder what makes the like why things grow differently here.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. So now we're gonna talk about some man-made or unexplained ruins that are considered anomalous. So there's the NASCAL lines in Peru where look, it's hitting red. It's hitting red. Are you from Peru?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_03

Instantly went down to green. I'm taking that as a yes. Okay, your ghost is from Peru. Hundreds of massive geoglyphs depicting animals, plants, and geometric shapes are etched into the desert floor. What? Visible only from the air. Ooh, the purpose of these lines created by the ancient Nazca people remains unknown. Just like my affinity for corn.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, we don't know how that happened.

SPEAKER_03

No, me either, honestly. I think it's because of the corny jokes.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, real quick, so for the sculptress island, the reason that the um trees and stuff grow the way that they do over there is because uh they had to evolve into drought-resistant forms. Oh, because of the uh environment that was over there.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. So next we have Easter Island in Chile. It's obviously always Easter there. No.

SPEAKER_02

That's where the Easter bunny lives.

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's a remote island home to nearly 1,000 giant statues, known as um Moy M-O-A-I.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Moai? Something like that.

SPEAKER_01

Isn't it something? Um carved by the Rapanui people. These methods used to move and erect these huge stone figures across the island without modern technology um remained subject to debate. So they don't know how they did it still. Like the pyramids. And the what is the the the uh if aliens come down, I'm gonna be like, so how did they do the pyramids, guys? Do y'all right for real?

SPEAKER_03

Same Z's. I think okay. Stonehenge, I was thinking Stonehenge. You were thinking Stonehenge, which is close. No. They're considered they're considered similar anomalies. Have you seen the picture where they have like the Easter Island head and then it like goes into the earth into a body, and then like the hand comes out where Stonehenge is on the other side, on the like way for away. Such a cool picture. That's cool. But um, they discovered that some of those heads on Easter Island go like tens of feet down below the surface. Like very deep. Some of them go deep into the surface. The ones that are only like the top half of the head, they go deep down into the dirt, like 20-30 feet sometimes.

SPEAKER_01

Weird thing supposedly popped into my head. What if, okay, so if you believe in evolution, um, what if back then people just were like a little bit more animal-like, so like I'm a human, but I have wings so I can make this, or I'm a human, but I'm really good at digging, so I can put this down there.

SPEAKER_02

I wish I kinda wish we lived in a world like that. I'd need a tail. If that was, if that was real, I'm sure we'd have kept some kind of like animal stuff to keep us like right doing things.

SPEAKER_01

I would want wings. I'd want to fly.

SPEAKER_02

Same. I want a tail. I'm gonna grab things without having to move.

SPEAKER_03

Same. Do you get it? Look, see? See how deep look at how short those people are. There's there are th that it is three people deep under the surface of the planet. That one statue. That's insane. I guess I had to make them do they all have. Look, here's one that's the head.

SPEAKER_01

I wonder if they like made these statues like for gods or like what?

SPEAKER_03

That's the question.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Really cool though. I'm very intrigued by Easter Island's stuff. So cool. Like, yeah, some of them have full-blown torsos with markings on their backs. That's insane. That would be a badass tattoo, actually. That looks like you laid down on something.

SPEAKER_02

I wouldn't get that tattoo. Let's see. Our next place is Plain of Jars in Laos. Oh. Thousands of large ancient stone jars are scattered across the Zheng Huang Plate Plateau. I don't know if I pronounce it right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, plateau. It's pronounced the same thing.

SPEAKER_02

The Xing Huang. Huang. I don't know. The exact purpose is unknown. Though archaeologists theorize they were used for ancient burial rites. Oh.

SPEAKER_03

It literally does look like it could be something that's used for burial.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It looks like a it literally looks like it looks like a cemetery with jars instead of tombstones, is what it looks like to me. But what so what's inside the jars? Are they just open? They just uh do they stay in there? No. I guess no one knows. Ancient mystery. That looks like AI. That does look like AI. That looks real.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, uh, there's a game called um Elden Ring, and there's an area where there's just a bunch of jars that walk around. Like that's that walk around. Yeah, they walk around, they're they're they they're their own little creatures and stuff, but it looks just like that.

SPEAKER_03

Why? Oh, I hope I can pronounce this. See? Karma coming back to me. Yeah. Yanaguni Monument in Japan. I feel like you did pretty good. The way you laughed at me. That one was good. Okay, it looks easier once you said it once, I guess. I don't know. This submerged rock formation off the coast of Yannaguni Island is a controversial topic among scientists. Some believe it is a natural formation shaped by seismic activity and erosion, while others argue it's man-made.

unknown

Huh.

SPEAKER_03

Is it under the water? Oh my god, it's underwater. It's a pyramid! Huh. Well, kinda it looks pyramid-like.

SPEAKER_02

So they don't know if somebody just built it underwater or if it was like sunken underwater, or it looks like people lived in there at some point in time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Is this Atlantic? That's what I was gonna say. We found it. Look, there's a sneak turtle with its babies.

unknown

Huh.

SPEAKER_03

Floating past it. I bet that's AI.

SPEAKER_02

That'd be fun to visit. I love going under I I want to go underwater.

SPEAKER_01

Giants Cause away. It's a northern. Oh, it's a northern. It's a northern island. I oh my god, guys. It's an island! It's in Northern Ireland. There we go. It's a natural phenomenon of about 40,000 vlogs interlocking um basillate columns formed by ancient volcanic activity. The precise hexagonal shapes of the columns are striking geological marble. Oh. Um precise angles and flat terraces suggest that it's man-made um from an ancient civilization.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Oh, I okay. I absolutely love the theory of an ancient, like, oversized civilization. Like, for instance, those mountains that look like giant fossilized tree stumps. I just love the thought of like those are giant trees that got chopped down and whoa! What is what they have in video games? That is so cool. Right? It looks like Minecraft designed this. Oh wow. Yeah. What the frick, frack catalat? Weirda. It looks like a beehive.

SPEAKER_02

There's stone bees that live there.

SPEAKER_03

That is so cool. I mean, it makes sense that that would be something that's caused by seismic activity because it looks like like maybe the way the reverberations went through the earth caused like a specific pattern of them, caused them to break in their crystalline structure, if that makes sense, you know? Looks like something out of a Godzilla movie.

SPEAKER_02

According to legend, it was built by Irish giant Fion Mac Cumhale to reach Scotland. By who? Fionn Mac Cumhale. Cumhale? Yep. I laughed at that too.

SPEAKER_03

I like the I like the lore. The lore, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Other notable anomalous locations. This one actually might be familiar to a lot of people, but the island of dolls in Mexico.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we're gonna have to cover that one. This is almost like a list of places to cover, you know. Oh yeah. Or places to visit, if there's nothing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Travel list.

SPEAKER_02

So look at the canals of Xoshimiko. This Erie Island is decorated with hundreds of mutilated dolls hanging from trees. The island's former caretaker hung them to appease the spirits of a drowned girl.

SPEAKER_03

It's the mutilated part for me. Reminds me of that cemetery that we visited in our first TikTok video. The baby the baby head. Why mutilated? Why they're probably it's probably from like weathering and stuff like that. Yeah, I think.

SPEAKER_02

For some reason, sure. And it's weird that so many baby dolls wash up on the shore. Yeah. Like how many babies are losing their dolls in the ocean.

SPEAKER_03

Seriously. Seriously. It's like they're drawn there by the little girl's energy or something. So now I'm gonna tell you about the Darvaza gas crater in Turkmenistan. Ali, you're gonna want to look this one up.

SPEAKER_02

Uh let me see. It's funny because when I started reading it, I was like, I'm not the only one.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that looks like hell. Nicknamed the Gates of Hell. This massive pit in the Karakum Desert has been burning continuously since 1971. Oh. So for 65 years.

SPEAKER_04

It's been on fire.

SPEAKER_03

It's been on fire. It was accidentally created during a Soviet drilling operation that tapped into a natural gas cavern, and geologists set it on fire to burn off the toxic gas. That's one of those things that, like, what if it goes far enough down in there that it creates like a bomb? Like, how big is that crater? How deep is it? How much natural gas is in there? And if it combusts all at once, what is gonna happen to the earth? This one really freaks me out. Yeah. Really freaks me out. Don't ask questions, you don't want to know. Seriously, that's a great response, Erica. Honestly, accurate, true, very true. So, Erica. Yes. Uh, as the first episode that we're recording with you today, I have a surprise for you. As our listeners know, Erica's favorite animal is a pirate. So I have this agreement that pirates must sign before they are allowed to be a part of a pirate crew. Um, they have to sign it as part of their onboarding process. And it is also something that is like an extension of the pirate policy and procedures handbook. Um, and it is referred to as the I Will Not Touch Mysterious Idols Agreement. So I'm just gonna kind of read through it a little bit and we can we can be entertained by the ridiculousness of this shenanigree.

SPEAKER_02

This are looking to be a pirate.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, so you're a requirement. Exactly. One of, one of you are required to sign this two-page agreement. So this agreement is entered into by and between the ship hereafter the crew and new crew member's name here, hereafter the signer, on this fine, suspicious day of fill in date here. One, the purpose. The signer acknowledges that mysterious idols, including but not limited to, glowing statues, ancient relics, weird eggs, whispering coins, singing skulls, and anything found on an altar are statistically linked to. Curses, haunting, surprise skeletons, sudden plot twists, and paperwork. That last one is just awful.

unknown

Holderful.

SPEAKER_03

The core promise. The signer hereby swears solemnly and dramatically that they will not touch mysterious idols, poke mysterious idols, lick mysterious idols. This had to be added because of history. Check if it is real, hold it up to the moon, wear it as a bit, take it to the ship for after. Yep, sorry, all of these things are unacceptable behaviors of a pirate when interacting with the ship. Exactly. The exception clause. This is where you two come in. The only acceptable reasons to interact with a mysterious idol are the captain gives a direct order. Captain must be awake and of sound mind. So if he's drunk and stumbling, don't listen. It is actively on fire and threatening the ship. This sounds like someone already pulled one onto the ship at this point. It is attacking a crew mammer. Rude. Okay, so that also sounds like someone brought one on a ship. It is clearly labeled not cursed, probably, in the captain's handwriting. Hopefully you can recognize the captain's handwriting. So reporting requirements. If the signer encounters a mysterious idol, they must immediately one, step away slowly. You know, think of like that Homer Simpson gif of him like disappearing into the shrubbery. Two, announce we have an idol situation. Oh god. I just want to point out that on my days off, we always have an idol situation. Three, notify the captain or quartermaster. And four, resist the urge to become. The main character. I'm definitely getting in trouble. The consequences. If the signer violates this agreement, they accept the following potential outcomes. Mob duty until morale improves. Crow's nest reflection time being assigned to inventory, the true punishment. Personal responsibility for any hauntings, curses, plagues, or plagues of frogs, or sudden dramatic music. The crew saying, I told you so forever, including at your funeral. Which will probably happen quickly if you've picked up a cursed idol.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? I like doing inventory, so.

SPEAKER_03

We know who's picking up the first flaming frog we find. And then finally, witness statement. The crew agrees to support the signer with gentle reminders, loud reminders, physically grabbing their belt and pulling them away from the idol like a misbehaving toddler.

SPEAKER_01

She looked at me.

SPEAKER_03

You're like, this one, this one's true. Here's an addendum. You must circle one of the answers that are available.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I, the signer, do also swear I will not say what's the worst that could happen. And the options are yes or yes. And then the signer must print and sign their name. The captain signs. The quartermaster must sign as a witness, and then it is dated.

SPEAKER_00

So there you have it. If I don't sign that, what's the worst that could happen?

SPEAKER_03

You don't get to be a part of the pirate crew.

SPEAKER_00

What if I'm the captain?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know how you could be the captain and not have signed the mysterious idols agreement.

SPEAKER_02

You're gonna have a very cursed shift.

SPEAKER_03

Ship? That's why it has to be saying not cursed, probably, in the captain's handwriting. Because you're the captain. Nobody tell her.

SPEAKER_01

Nobody tell me what.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So, um we have a rock for y'all. And it looks very familiar. It looks exactly like the cover, just less dark. So I'm gonna let Erica read it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. We were talking about the stuff. We like to describe the stone that none of the pictures look exactly the way the crystals look in real life.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

That they all just look like little different. They look like glass. Yeah. Like to me, this looks like it could be a million things. Like sea glass.

SPEAKER_03

Amazonite.

SPEAKER_01

Fluorite, maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, it looks like green fluorite for sure. Green quartz. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no idea. No idea. Green calcite. We're all wrong.

SPEAKER_03

Oh nice! All wrong.

SPEAKER_01

But I can I guess so, but it's too see-through. Anyways.

SPEAKER_03

I think so, yeah. Calcite's more opaque.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Um, green calcite. What is it? Green cal green. Sorry, green calcite is the emo. Honest to a fault. Um believes and storybook endings. Tree hugger of the calcite family.

SPEAKER_03

Wait a minute, we have emo tattoos right here next to our microphone. Seeing goodness and he got them last night. We did.

SPEAKER_01

At night. Sorry. Okay. Um, who needs it? Anyone who finds themselves lost in the for lost in the forest of doubt without a map. Libra's me.

SPEAKER_02

If you're in the crooked forest.

SPEAKER_03

Wait. Without a map. Near that magnet place that makes your compass go all wacky whack. Oh my god. I just ran by accident. Um.

SPEAKER_01

Or um the wood slash park story that I have. Right. Which you've mentioned earlier that happened over there.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we are um synchronizing like crazy today.

SPEAKER_03

Like hopefully not.

SPEAKER_01

A hundred, two hundred feet or something from where that story began.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Whoa.

SPEAKER_01

We can go check it out. I can show you the tree.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

Anyways. So, where to put it against your chest when making important decisions regarding how you want to spend the finite precious time you have on earth. Oh, I need that right now. When to use it when your heart is asking for something, but you la la la, I'm listening. Yeah, I need this shit. Okay, the heart wants what it wants, the mind wants what it thinks the heart should want. Call on the energy of green calcite to nudge that push and pull in the heart of saver. I did not realize how much I needed this.

SPEAKER_05

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

Um and it says, live out your heart's desire. Yeah, I really need this. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

You do.

SPEAKER_01

My uh heart and my head never agreed.

SPEAKER_03

Never agree.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, interesting.

SPEAKER_01

They're always like.

SPEAKER_03

I hope y'all really enjoyed this episode as much as I did. I really liked like looking up pictures of all of those places while we were talking about.

SPEAKER_02

I just thought it was cool. It uh it's a nice reminder that our world is just like it can be kind of crazy, like crazy. Yeah. Like it's cool. Like we we don't have to pretend that we live in a boring yeah, on a boring planet. It's okay for things to be unfunky. Trees are funky. Gas comes out of weird places.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, the earth is just a big human. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We say, oh my god, I don't know what's going on. I don't know what to do. I'm doing, neither does the earth.

SPEAKER_03

Right. It's just farting fire everywhere. Apparently bleeding out of glaciers and trees.

SPEAKER_01

So it's having fun.
