In this episode, Josh breaks down the reality of discipline and why it doesn’t mean showing up perfectly every day. Life happens. Schedules shift. Energy changes. But discipline isn’t about being 100% all the time, it’s about staying consistent over time. Josh shares how to adjust, adapt, and keep moving forward without letting imperfect days turn into excuses.
Welcome to the Courage to Live podcast. My name is Josh Bitsko, and I'm a retired police captain with 24 years of experience out of Las Vegas. Currently, I travel the country and I teach people about courage, resilience, and leadership. In this podcast, I want to talk about discipline. I know there's a lot out there on, you know, how to stay disciplined. I've done a podcast on motivation versus discipline. But I wanted to get really into the reality of discipline. Meaning you have expectations of yourself to be 100% every day. Meaning, okay, you're the guy that wakes up at 5 a.m. and works out. That's that's great. Like that's amazing. And I did that for a long time, a long period of my life as I woke up before work and would work out, lift and all that. And then I do jujitsu after work. But what happens when you're sick? What happens when you don't sleep at all? And now are you gonna wake up on two hours of sleep to go work out? I want to equate it to like how many steps do you daily take or take daily? Like, you know, the average or the the goal is 10,000, but you know, if you look up and find what exactly it is for you, but one day you might get 8,000, one day you might get 12,000, a couple days you might hit that 10,000 10,000 uh step goal. So what I'm trying to say is it's not always gonna be perfect, it's not always going to be exact. If you know you work, if you generally work out five days a week, but you know this weekend's gonna be hectic and kids' sports, and you just or whatever it is that you don't have time, is it okay if on Thursday you just do a full body lifting routine to cover for you don't when you don't have the weekends, or you're not gonna be able to work out over the weekend, or what whatever it is for you? Just know that you can remain disciplined while not being perfect. And like for me, there's days that not feeling great, not really feeling up to it. I'll still work out, but maybe I'll shift my schedule around and I'm not doing dead lifts today. I'm gonna do, you know, delts and you know biceps or whatever it is. And I think this is true to life. If you some days you have off days, some days you have on days. Um try to be as disciplined as you can and know that you're not gonna be perfect. Thanks for listening.
