In this episode, Josh talks about the pressure to see fast results and why it often works against long-term growth. Whether it’s fitness, learning a skill, or professional development, real progress takes time. Using the idea that fruit is the last thing to grow on a tree, he breaks down the importance of patience, consistency, and staying disciplined even when results aren’t immediate.
Welcome to the Courage to Lip Podcast. My name is Josh Bitzko, and I'm a retired police captain with 24 years of experience out of Las Vegas. In today's short podcast, I'm going to talk about eagerness to get results. And what I mean by that is when you are taking any new thing on, let's say it's weightlifting, let's say it's jujitsu, stand-up, boxing, something for you in your professional life. I know that we want fast results. And so, you know, you let's say you're lifting, you're working out, you want to see those results fast. You're doing jujitsu, you want to get better fast. Um I I read something and I it really stuck out to me, and I liked I liked it a lot. It said, remember, the last thing to grow on a tree is fruit. So you have to put all this work in and and water and be consistent and all of these things before that fruit develops, and you get to you know see the fruits of your work. So I want you to remember that. And if I I remember like it, listen, I I did jujitsu for a really long time. And after years and years, I would say I'm just okay. It's not like, oh, I'm there. Um, been lifting weights for a long time. Look at myself in the mirror, I'm like, yeah, but I could be a little bigger or I could be a little leaner. So you may never get exactly where you want, but each day you're gonna get a little better. And if you're patient and you put in the time and you put in the effort and you're consistent and disciplined, that fruit will come. So go a little easy on yourself and remember that. You're doing a really hard thing, whatever it is in your life. Just keep going, keep pushing forward. And you're gonna look back at where you were six months ago, a year, five years, 10 years, and you'll see how far you've come. And that fruit finally came. So appreciate listening to the podcast.
