In this episode, Josh breaks down a simple but often overlooked truth: most people do the bare minimum. If you want to stand out as an employee, you don’t need a complicated strategy, you just need to give a little more effort than those around you. He talks about the balance between working hard and avoiding burnout, and why consistency, reliability, and effort are what set people apart over time.
Welcome to the Courage to Live Podcast. My name is Josh Bitsko, and I'm a retired police captain with 24 years of experience out of Las Vegas. Currently, I travel the country and I teach people about courage, resilience, and leadership. In today's podcast, I want to talk about the easiest way to become a good employee. And I mean, I've had several different jobs. I was on the police department, had different positions. And what I learned is most people don't give a lot of effort. I mean, and I'd say like a large percentage of employees aren't putting a ton of effort, working hard, doing everything that um you know they need to do to succeed or promote or be successful. And so what I've learned really is most people do the bare minimum. If you want to be a good employee, you just have to do a little better. Like, and I'm not saying be lazy. If you want to be a stellar employee, you wanted to be the best, be the go-to guy or gal. You're just going to put in the effort and work when you're there. I'm not saying lose yourself and not have a work-life balance because that's terrible and you'll end up burning out anyway. But I used to always say this is like most of the people I work around are really just given the bare minimum. And all you have to do is a little better than that, and you stand out. And if you want to be that exceptional employee, um, you know, be that be that person that people come to, be that person that your, you know, your bosses know they can rely on you, and they end up like backing off because they know you're gonna get the job done. So take a look around you, realize again, most people are putting in the bare minimum. Be better. That's it, it's just work harder. You're gonna make mistakes. You don't have to be perfect. Just learn from those mistakes. Just gotta work harder than the people around you, and it's it's not that hard. Appreciate you listening today.
