can remember and hear those words in my ear and in my soul today, like I did when I was 17 years old. 00:02:36.050 --> 00:02:39.009 And that was almost 30 years ago. 00:02:39.250 --> 00:02:39.890 Wow. word of God, that I believe one of the best weapons that God has given to you and I today is the fact that God wants to speak to us, and God always confirms it with his word, but it's the nature of A final word, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 00:05:44.050 --> 00:05:45.089 Great reminder, man. 00:05:45.170 --> 00:05:47.410 I don't have to be strong, I just have to be strong in him. 00:05:47.730 --> 00:05:48.370 Amen. 00:05:48.930 --> 00:05:54.850 And put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all the strategies of the devil. 00:05:55.009 --> 00:06:06.290 For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in 00:07:49.649 And we're gonna talk about what the word of God really is, the sword of the spirit. 00:07:49.889 --> 00:07:55.569 In in the New Testament Greek, there are always two words that God uses to describe the word of God. 00:07:55.730 --> 00:07:59.889 It is the logos or logos word of God and the Rhema word of God. 00:08:00.050 --> 00:08:03.329 The the logos word of God is the written word of God. 00:08:03.569 --> 00:08:06.850 We understand it as the Bible that many of us open up. 00:08:07.009 --> 00:08:12.129 You maybe you've got the U version app, maybe you've got a paper version that you like to go out of. 00:08:12.209 --> 00:08:13.970 That is the written word of God. 00:08:14.290 --> 00:08:19.649 But here in Ephesians, uh, Paul doesn't use the logos, he doesn't say the written word of God. 00:08:19.730 --> 00:08:21.410 It's the Rhema word of God. 00:08:21.569 --> 00:08:25.569 The rhema word of God is the spoken word of God. 00:08:27.250 --> 00:08:29.810 And so which one is can measure it against scripture, and if it doesn't line up with scripture, they're a false prophet, and I would stop listening to them. 00:08:54.129 --> 00:09:05.649 And so God wants to speak to us today that that maybe the best analogy that I can give, because it is football season, and everybody in here said, Amen. 00:09:06.049 --> 00:09:11.009 Like I turned on college football yesterday just to have football in the background, man. 00:09:11.089 --> 00:09:13.489 I didn't care that they were playing in Ireland, it didn't matter. 00:09:13.649 --> 00:09:16.929 I just needed some football on playbook. 00:09:25.409 --> 00:09:32.529 If you are in sports, the logos, the written word of God is the playbook. 00:09:33.329 --> 00:09:40.209 The Rhema word of God is the play that God is calling out of his book for you to run in your life right now. 00:09:41.809 --> 00:09:43.489 And so which one is important? 00:09:43.649 --> 00:09:56.849 Well, you got to know the playbook, so I know what plays to run, but then I gotta know the playbook because sometime God is gonna speak to me a specific scripture in my life, and that's the play he's calling me to play in my life right now. 00:09:57.969 --> 00:10:06.449 The written word of God is confirmed by the spoken word of God, and we got to know the written word so when God starts calling plays, we know how to play. 00:10:07.569 --> 00:10:09.409 You don't here's the reality. 00:10:09.569 --> 00:10:12.049 Maybe some of you guys struggle with fear or anxiety. 00:10:12.209 --> 00:10:17.329 Let me tell you the play God has given you for that in Timothy, that God has not given you a spirit of fear. 00:10:17.409 --> 00:10:20.049 I've given you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. 00:10:20.209 --> 00:10:24.849 I gotta know the playbook to know that that's the play God might be calling me to play right now. 00:10:25.089 --> 00:10:28.369 Maybe, maybe depression or anxiety is ruining your mind right now. 00:10:28.449 --> 00:10:35.969 And then I gotta know the play might be Philippians 4 7 that the peace of God that passes all understanding would guard our hearts and minds. 00:10:36.849 --> 00:10:42.209 You gotta know the playbook so that when the Spirit calls the play, we know what we're doing. 00:10:43.169 --> 00:10:46.369 That God wants to speak to his people still today. 00:10:46.609 --> 00:10:48.609 God has 00:11:05.569 --> 00:11:07.329 Why did Moses do some of the things he did? 00:11:07.489 --> 00:11:10.289 Because God spoke to him. 00:11:11.409 --> 00:11:13.729 Abraham, following God, did some things. 00:11:13.809 --> 00:11:15.329 Why did Abraham do those things? 00:11:15.489 --> 00:11:21.250 It wasn't because he ate a wild pizza the night before and had a crazy dream, it's because God spoke to him. 00:11:22.369 --> 00:11:25.089 We get over to the New Testament. 00:11:25.329 --> 00:11:29.250 Mary and Joseph, they're about to have baby Jesus, right? 00:11:29.329 --> 00:11:29.569 Why? 00:11:29.729 --> 00:11:32.449 Because God spoke to them. 00:11:32.769 --> 00:11:37.969 Paul in scripture tells us multiple times where Jesus did what? 00:11:38.209 --> 00:11:39.569 He spoke to him. 00:11:39.889 --> 00:11:42.209 John writes the entire book of Revelation. 00:11:42.289 --> 00:11:42.609 Why? 00:11:42.849 --> 00:11:45.169 Because God spoke to him. 00:11:45.649 --> 00:11:52.529 And so the question is if it's the nature of God to want to interact and lead his people by speaking to them. 00:11:53.809 --> 00:11:57.169 Has God suddenly stopped speaking to us now? 00:11:59.729 --> That God has given us his spirit, the sword of the spirit, so that his spoken word can call the right play in our life as he speaks to us and tries to lead us down the path that he has for us. were like, no, no, no, I'm good. 00:12:54.529 --> 00:12:56.769 Like you just go here from God for me. 00:12:57.169 --> 00:12:59.729 I'll just do whatever God tells you to do. 00:13:00.049 --> 00:13:00.449 Why? 00:13:00.609 --> 00:13:06.529 Because to be honest, it's a little bit intimidating when the God of the universe decides I want to have a conversation with you, right? 00:13:07.409 --> 00:13:13.089 And so for some of us, we we don't like this conversation because it makes us uncomfortable. 00:13:13.250 --> 00:13:16.369 Well, here's a reality that we have to get in this moment. 00:13:16.769 --> 00:13:22.209 Don't confuse God's comfort with him making you comfortable. 00:13:22.769 --> 00:13:25.329 I think this is the mistake we often make in church. 00:13:25.409 --> 00:13:26.609 I hear it as a pastor. 00:13:26.769 --> 00:13:32.049 There are some things that happen in the church or some things that happen in the Bible I'm not comfortable with. 00:13:32.289 --> 00:13:32.769 Cool. 00:13:33.089 --> 00:13:36.369 God isn't checking with you to see what you're comfortable with. 00:13:37.329 --> 00:13:40.609 Because God never promised you or me a comfortable life. 00:13:40.849 --> 00:13:42.849 I think that's the other mistake that we make. 00:13:43.009 --> 00:13:46.849 We thought when we got saved, God was just gonna make my life comfortable and easy. 00:13:47.089 --> 00:13:53.889 He was gonna give me one of those power recliners and I could just back, turn on a football game and take a nap until we go to heaven, right? 00:13:55.489 --> 00:13:58.049 God promised to comfort you. 00:13:58.929 --> 00:14:01.729 He did not promise to make you comfortable. 00:14:02.849 --> 00:14:10.129 And sometimes following God and experiencing his comfort happened because he led us into uncomfortable spaces. 00:14:10.769 --> 00:14:13.009 Everybody wants to experience God's comfort. 00:14:13.169 --> 00:14:16.449 Nobody wants to get uncomfortable, so they have to experience it. 00:14:17.969 --> 00:14:20.929 And so it comes this way when it comes to God speaking to us. 00:14:21.089 --> 00:14:22.849 It's weird, I'm not comfortable with it. 00:14:22.929 --> 00:14:29.169 Like those moments and things happen, and so we just want to shut it down because it's something I'm not comfortable with. 00:14:29.969 --> 00:14:37.329 Here's the problem with that there's two things that are spiritually dangerous to me when we start taking out the pieces of scripture where God says he wants to speak to us. 00:14:37.489 --> 00:14:45.009 One, it means we start cutting out the pieces of the Bible that we're not comfortable with so that we can build a God we are comfortable with. 00:14:45.409 --> 00:14:54.529 And we have to be careful because if we start doing that, but then we want to call other people out for changing God's truth and taking out the pieces we don't like, there's a word for that. 00:14:54.609 --> 00:14:56.289 It's called hypocrite. 00:14:58.849 --> 00:15:04.689 And we can't talk about one thing and then do it on another way because I'm not comfortable with it. 00:15:06.689 --> 00:15:11.889 And so if it's in scripture and we're uncomfortable, now we got to wrestle with this reality. 00:15:12.129 --> 00:15:20.289 Because the other spiritual dangerous problem with that is we start making a God that fits in a box that we're comfortable with, and there's a word for that, it's called an idol. 00:15:22.849 --> 00:15:29.409 Listen, if you can fit God in a box that you're comfortable with, you're not serving the real true God. 00:15:32.209 --> 00:15:43.489 Because if a finite human being can create a God who's supposed to be infinite and be comfortable with that, we've we've had to have missed part of who God is and what he's doing. 00:15:43.889 --> 00:15:45.089 Can I just be honest with you? 00:15:45.169 --> 00:15:49.250 Even as your pastor, there are parts of God I'm not comfortable with. comfortable with God's grace at times. 00:16:02.209 --> 00:16:03.729 Oh, I want it for me. 00:16:04.289 --> 00:16:07.729 I'm just not as comfortable when he shows other people the kind of grace I want. 00:16:07.889 --> 00:16:12.049 Because I think he should be ready to strike some of them people with lightning bolts and just be done with them, God. 00:16:15.169 --> 00:16:18.129 I'm not comfortable with the way God blesses some people. 00:16:18.289 --> 00:16:21.009 Like, I wish you would start writing me some checks, God. 00:16:21.329 --> 00:16:23.729 I mean, do you know who they are and what they do? 00:16:25.329 --> 00:16:33.489 There's some people that call themselves Christians, that call themselves preachers, that man, I'm not comfortable with them carrying the title Christian, and I just wish God would deal with them. 00:16:36.529 --> 00:16:38.849 There's parts of God that we have to understand. 00:16:38.929 --> 00:16:48.609 If if I'm serving him, there should be parts of his nature and who he is that we can't fully explain and we can't fully be comfortable with. 00:16:48.769 --> 00:16:53.169 And if you can shrink him down to something that is, you're not serving God anymore. 00:16:53.329 --> 00:16:55.089 We do it with Jesus in today's world. 00:16:55.250 --> 00:17:02.529 I can tell you cults that call themselves religions and denominations that have made Jesus, they would say he's an important person. 00:17:02.769 --> 00:17:04.529 They would say he's a prophet. 00:17:04.690 --> 00:17:11.009 They might even say he heard from God, but they don't want to claim that he is God, and they don't want to claim that he is the only way into heaven. 00:17:11.170 --> 00:17:13.089 And so what do we do with that? 00:17:14.529 --> 00:17:16.609 It's uncomfortable, right? 00:17:19.809 --> 00:17:25.170 And so, how do we wrestle through these moments to hear from God and experience him? 00:17:25.569 --> 00:17:27.490 We had one of these moments last the spirit, the spoken word of God, from the written word of God. 00:17:45.169 --> 00:17:49.250 And if it's in God's word, then we have to wrestle with the pieces we aren't comfortable with. of the Spirit. 00:18:02.210 --> 00:18:13.730 That word manifestation, it's just a fancy word for a clear display of the Spirit, the spiritual illumination and enabling of the Holy Spirit for the
