Welcome. Today's topic, God is Father. The key idea is that God is not distant. He reveals himself as our loving Father from Genesis to Revelation. In the Bible we see God is creator and father. Genesis 1, 26 and 27 states, then God said, Let us make man in our image according to our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, over the cattle, over the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him. Male and female he created them. Clearly, we bear our Father's image, beginning with creation. Malachi two ten says, Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we disrespect the covenant of our ancestors by being unfaithful to one another? God is our Father, and one Father created us all. God our Father pledges his love to us. In Deuteronomy one thirty one, I respectfully suggest you write down the scriptures that I give you so you can study them in your own personal Bible study time later. Deuteronomy one thirty one. In the wilderness we saw how the Lord our God carried you as a father carries his child. He carries his people like a father carries an infant. He cuddles you, he caresses you. God is the Father of Jesus Christ. In Matthew three, sixteen to seventeen, the Father publicly claims his Son. After his baptism by John, Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, not as a dove, he's not a bird, like a dove and settling on him. A voice from heaven said, This is my dearly beloved Son, who brings me great joy. In John fourteen nine, to see Jesus is to see the Father, Jesus replied, Have I been with you all this time, and yet you still don't know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So why are you asking me to show him to you? Next, the character of the Father is found in the Bible. God's fatherhood is defined by love, compassion, provision, and holiness. God's compassion is seen in Psalm 103 13. Write down the scriptures if you like. Psalm 103 13 describes compassion like a father toward his children. It says the Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who love and honor him. Luke 15, 11 through 32 is the story of the prodigal son. It reveals God's heart toward his children. And if you're a prodigal, if you've been away for a while, come home now. Your father's love is unconditional. The Father's provision is found in Matthew 6, 25 through 34. It tells us that your Father knows what you need and He provides it for you. In James 1 17, it reminds us that every good gift comes from the Father. The Father's discipline, let's look at that next. In Proverbs 3, 11 and 12, it advises against rejecting the Lord's discipline or growing weary of his rebuke. It explains that God corrects those whom he loves, comparing his correction to a devoted father correcting a son or daughter in whom he delights. Hebrews 12 5 through 11 explains that our Father disciplines us as his sons and daughters because he loves us. And what father doesn't need to correct their son or daughter from time to time. The Father's holiness, let's look at that next. Matthew 5.48 reminds us that the Father is perfect and his children reflect his nature. Matthew 5.48 is a verse in the New Testament where Jesus commands his followers, you therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. This serves as the concluding summary of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus outlines the moral, ethical, and spiritual standards for his followers. Next, the Father's invitation to relationship. The key idea here is that through Christ we are adopted into the family of God. We are adopted through Christ by the Father. Galatians 4, 4 through 7. When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are son, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father, Dad, Daddy. We'll be back with more God's Promises, Don Pastor Ed Brady, right after this.

Write down that scripture and read the verses on your own in your own personal Bible study time. But Romans 8 14 through 17 shows us that the Holy Spirit testifies that we are children of God. The Father's eternal family is expressed in Ephesians 3 14 and 15. It says that every family derives its identity from the Father, our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. We know God as Father because Jesus called God Father. And if Jesus called him Father, well, for most people that's good enough. We can reflect on the Father's character by living with love, compassion, holiness, and generosity toward others. Extending the Father's love to others is very important. We become ambassadors of the Father's heart to every person we meet. In conclusion on this edition of God's Promises Podcast, God is Father, we focus on the Father's open arms. His arms are open to you right now. God is our Father is not merely a doctrine in the Bible. It's an invitation to completely know at a heart level that God is love and He loves you unconditionally.
