Hi guys, we're back here with the Top Shelf Grumbling podcast tonight. We've got a special little episode here. An Easter, uh Easter special.

SPEAKER_00

Easter Edition.

SPEAKER_01

Easter Edition. Uh we've got to gotta recap a great baseball weekend for the Rebels. I mean, that was that was uh unexpected, but uh very much appreciated.

SPEAKER_00

Not really unexpected.

SPEAKER_01

Unexpected, but uh appreciated, I guess. I I don't I'll I'll leave it at that.

SPEAKER_00

Because um I've been saying this all yeah, I just we didn't score for 20 innings, so yes, and our uh the game the game the game that we won at one point in time we had uh 23 outs and 13 of those were strikeout.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was uh look it was bleak.

SPEAKER_00

We just need another hitter or two to step up. I mean I've heard this. Basetta, Udemar, Will Fernand. I mean, all those guys are batting 300, 320, 330. But that's it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Those are the only three batters in the entire lineup. But Federico stepped up and he had a great, you know, and also, I mean, uh Braden Randall's he, you know, the biggest.

SPEAKER_00

And Fawley has gotten a couple timely hits here and there recently, too, but we need somebody at least one or one, really only just one more hitter to really step up. Like Dom Decker, let's call it what it is. He's hit I mean he gets on base, but he's batting like 221, 231.

SPEAKER_01

I think that we've uh we've talked about this ad nauseum, but there's a um a failure to have a plan at the plate, you know, getting ready to go up there to hit and you know, figuring out what you need to do with the ball. And uh we're just trying to sit on the fastball, and sometimes it works, and sometimes we we're relying on uh a lot of home runs and a lot of big, you know, big plays and big swings.

SPEAKER_00

We had ten hits Friday night. Yeah. That was a good sign. Yeah. I just I've been bullish on this team all year. I think we we were pretty good last year. We should have, woulda, coulda, but very s easily should have been in a super regional last year. Yeah. And I think Which we hadn't hosted a super regional since 2009. Anyway, uh I I I like this team. I think it's I think it's better than last year's team. That was a super regional caliber team. Yeah. Rabe Elliott Times. That's the best that's a good one, two, three points as you're gonna see in the SEC or in the entire country. Rabe is so long. I mean, and look, don't count out uh Will Libergell either. Now he's gonna he's gonna help this team down the streets. He was the first one up in the bullpen on uh on Thursday night. He's gonna be fine. Just uh But anyway, we if if one of those if we get another bat or two to step up, then look out because you have to if you have to play that those th those three pitchers in a regional or super regional then.

SPEAKER_01

Keep it looking to score low. We can we can try to you know try to win a few, steal a few if we get to get the bats going for sure.

SPEAKER_00

And we said this ad nauseum too. All you gotta do is go around 500 in SEC play. Yeah. Basically we gotta find eight or nine more wins to do that, and you'll host if you go about around 500 in SEC. Yeah. Um I saw today uh Ole Miss is number seven in the RPI, seven or eighth, I think. And if somebody posted on Facebook, and the state fans are in the comments bitching, like, oh, they number eight, we're 15th. I'm like, that's state fans, you don't know how uh RPI works, has really nothing to do with who beat who is who.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_00

It's who you have played. Actually, it's a compliment to Mississippi State for our RPI to be that high. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Because they're one of the best teams in the country. You know who else has got a good RPI? Drew Chapman. He's the sponsor of this episode. Absolutely. His uh his telephone number is 662-317-1331. If you need any real estate, go uh check out Drew Chapman. He's a great partner here at Top Shelf Gremlin Podcast. Absolutely. Anyway, get back to our baseball, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, Drew, the state got swept already in but anyway.

SPEAKER_01

We were gonna we were gonna put a little uh shot here of the Mississippi State uh baseball game, but uh we'll we'll not we'll not do that, you know. I guess we will rub it in. We won't be able to get it. Yeah, they want to rub it in. That's true. We don't want to, you know, step on anybody's toes or anything. But yeah, Mississippi State did get get swept at home for the first time since 2004, I believe, is when I saw uh that's uh that's a kind of an anomaly. You know, you we said on uh Yeah, we we said it before it's it's a kind of a crapshoot.

SPEAKER_00

Well, a few episodes back we were talking about you know hardly anybody gets swept, but um I don't know about this past weekend, but I know the weekend before, like seven teams got swept in SEC. So it's kind of outliers. Outliers. But anyway, yeah, just old Miss Baseball, please somebody step up and help the and help Bassetta and you to Mark and Farners. I mean, come on.

SPEAKER_01

And also, you know, and I I think you know, after the game, they uh they interviewed Uttermark and he said, you know, Mike Clements has has you know kind of lit a fire under us and said, hey, we gotta better have a better approach and and and all that. So that's that's what I was worried about.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe that was maybe that game of other night, Saturday night was kind of uh gonna get us going.

SPEAKER_01

That was my concern is we we didn't have a good approach going to the plate, you know, and and we were swinging at things we we shouldn't, and swinging too hard and you know not playing good situational baseball. We were just swinging for the fences and hoping we hit home runs, which that's I guess that's a philosophy, but it's not always one that's gonna you know win you games when you need to. But we we have shown we've been resilient. I mean, it's just here lately it looks like we're just that's all we're doing is trying to live by you know.

SPEAKER_00

We have a very resilient team. That's one thing I like about us. Well yeah, resilient. We don't quit, we hang in there. We've won a couple games here, uh probably that we shouldn't have won. But we also lost a couple too that we could have easily won. You know, I'll I'm uh again, I like this team. Long season, really. We still got a lot of baseball baseball left. A whole lot. Uh we got uh LSU coming in the town this weekend.

SPEAKER_01

That's gonna be a uh you know, I st I still feel like there's gonna be some some spillover with just you know the the current LSU fans. Current state of affairs. Current state of affairs. There's gonna be some uh some pushback and some uh some heated exchanges, even in the baseball arena. Oh, absolutely for sure. So get ready for that this weekend if you're gonna be on the show.

SPEAKER_00

LSU hadn't been playing so well. They kind of sputtered along in non-conference. Uh SEC. Preseason number one. They were up there. You know, there's so many damn baseball players.

SPEAKER_01

Some of them had preseason number one.

SPEAKER_00

They were top five for sure, and they just kind of really hadn't lived up to it. Yeah. But uh go to hell LSU. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

I'm here for that.

SPEAKER_00

Um that's about all I got for the baseball. Yeah. Somebody needs to somebody needs to step up. And I think somebody's going to. It's kind of where I'm go where I'm going with it. I think somebody is gonna step up. We're gonna find that other fourth or fifth hitter. Owen Pena. You think so?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it's gonna be um I've been I've been seeing this guy on Twitter that's like we we do better when Owen Peña is in the lineup, and it's actually statistically true. So I don't know. I mean we could we could give it a try. Well, let's let's see, let's move a little move on here. We got a little What's coming up on the next one? There's something some big uh golf tournament coming up next weekend. I don't know. That we want to talk about next. Yeah, let's go ahead and let's let's get into that. I know you got your notes set up for something else, but I don't want to I don't want to waste any more time. Guys, the Masters is coming up. Uh Augusta National A uh, you know, a timeless tradition uh like no other. It's gonna be a great one.

SPEAKER_00

Get my big uh hanging out with uh much of my booze this weekend, Wesley Morgan, Josh Bowen, Colin McGregor, uh Austin and Russell, Russell Motors, by the way. Russell Motors, Russell Motors. Go see Austin, he's uh got what you need. I don't know who one of our title sponsors.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. He does got what you need.

SPEAKER_00

Any kind of used car or truck anyway. That's that's this weekend of Big Crawfish cooking. We've been doing this for I don't even want to count the years. I I the The first masters that me and Wesley Morgan ever watched together was at in Fulton. I was like a junior sophomore in high school, is when Tiger did the the 2005 when the ball, the Nike ball dropped right there, the little chip.

SPEAKER_01

That's 20,000, not 20,000. That's 20 years ago.

SPEAKER_00

But we've been doing this actual the first year I ever remember doing this crawfish thing was uh the year that Zach Johnson won it, which was oh seven or oh eight. So twenty years of doing this, and we all go down and Zach Johnson. We all go down and you know cook crawfish all day, all night at event, and just good master tradition. A tradition unlike no other. Absolutely. Also, before we kind of get into it, Pontock Country Club is having a $20 master's pool, and you can see it all online. You uh the the if you get in, you get a link sent to you, and you pick your you pick six golfers, as they they have like tier one, tier two, tier three, and so on, and you throw out the highest score, and you take a combined score, and whoever gets the lowest at the end wins. I won the players' polls, but uh luckily the player championship poll, but this ought to be b this ought to be a big one. I think you can put as many sheets in as you want.

SPEAKER_01

Find it on the on the Facebook page, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm gonna post I'm gonna post it on the Facebook page and Twitter probably tonight. Yeah. I'm gonna do it last night, but I forgot. Yeah. But uh got some favorites going into this tournament? I have a few favorites. Uh I just got I like Bry, I think Bryson.

SPEAKER_01

Did you see the the uh thing that they put out with a 53-minute long like Rory's whole last round?

SPEAKER_00

No, I seen it, but I hadn't watched it yet.

SPEAKER_01

We watched it this morning over coffee and uh Summer Night just sat there in awe. We were like, this is uh it's pretty cool when they break it down and and you know what shot are you looking for here? And Justin Rose was Justin Rose was in his bag as well, too. Man, he's I like Justin Rose. Don't count him out.

SPEAKER_00

Don't count Justin Rose out. Because look, what uh Rose is getting close to 50. Older older guys can for for whatever reason over the years have competed or won at Augusta. I don't know if it's like they re get they get re-energized or something for it.

SPEAKER_01

It's a shop shop makers golf course, so anybody can really, you know, uh can excel there at any time.

SPEAKER_00

But I like Bryson. Yeah. I like Scotty Scheffler, of course. People kind of his his demise is kind of uh exaggerated. He hadn't been playing his best golf by any means, but he's still been pretty darn good. Yeah. He did just have a kid, so I don't really know where his head might be, but uh something keeps telling me about Colin Markow. I don't Is he back from injury? Is he playing, I'm pretty sure. Well, you know, he injured his back a couple weeks ago. I saw him on the sheet a while ago, so we'll see.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't realize he injured his back. I must have missed that. Yeah, no, it was a big it was a big thing, and they, you know, he was teeing off and went to go swing right before he teed off and took a practice. I was thinking that was somebody.

SPEAKER_00

I remember that now. I was thinking that was somebody else.

SPEAKER_01

That was definitely him. Uh I know if I look I'm I for sure looked a while ago and he was in the field for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe he's back. But Patrick Reed. I that's who I'm p that's that's who I'm picking to win. Hold on. I'm picking Rom. I like Rahm too. John Rom. John Rom. I'm picking Patrick Reed Dreed to win the Augusta National. What? That's my pick. I can't I I hate the guy. He's a dick, a grade grade grade A asshole. But uh he's been killing it over on. He's played a lot of European golf. Yeah. He won like three tournaments in a row, and a couple of those were like everybody was playing in it. Like real, the whole yeah, all the big names, and he won. It's hard to win three tournaments in a row against me. You know, I mean it's hard. Long shots. I kinda I've got I've got down uh Brooks, Kepka, Jason Day, and Cam Young. Now Cam's been playing real good golf this year. Yeah. Jason Day's been close. The Australians, for whatever reason, don't know, Australians always play good at Augusta.

SPEAKER_01

Give me Ludwig Aberg as a as one to look at, and also uh Mr. Fleetwood as well, too.

SPEAKER_00

Fleetwood don't have a good record around this place.

SPEAKER_01

He doesn't, but I it's not terrible, really but I've got a feeling uh I love I would love him to win it this weekend, yeah. Those are my those are my two picks that I'm I'm gonna be putting in.

SPEAKER_00

So who you picking to win it? I got Patrick Reed. Who you got?

SPEAKER_01

Patrick Reed.

SPEAKER_00

That makes you sick, though. It kind of does. It makes me sick too, even saying it.

SPEAKER_01

Give me Bob McIntyre out of out of nowhere. Who? Robert McIntyre. I'm just kidding. Come on. Uh I can say it. Don't be a casual.

SPEAKER_00

A purist. Uh we talked about that today. But again, remember the Ponotop Country Club pool, $20. Like I said, I'm gonna be put I'm gonna be posting that on my social. $20 masters pool. $20 an entry. I'm I know I know you can do two. I don't know if you can do more than two, but you can do at least two. I'm pretty sure you can do as many as you want to. Um But yeah, big weekend. Hey, Monday, I mean, I'll be watching live from it'll be on tomorrow, I'm sure, and I won't have nothing else on from now until next Sunday night. It's like a week long process, to be honest. It really is. I mean Monday, you know, they have the they do like the everybody's practice rounds and playing with each other. It really starts today. Like uh you uh past champions can bring like whoever the hell they want to bring today to play with them. And also over the weekend they had the you know the women's, you know, yeah, dry chips and putt.

SPEAKER_01

No, they had the women's.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, uh it's not actually it's not actually on the grounds though. They play it like another course. They the final round may be on Yeah, the final round, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I mean the day though, I thought. Was that today? It was either that or the day before.

SPEAKER_00

And the dry chip and putt was yesterday, right? Yeah. Or Friday. Maybe Friday and a Saturday.

SPEAKER_01

I saw I saw a clip from a day of the guy that the kid that was uh cross-handed uh hitting a absolute.

SPEAKER_00

One of the kids who won was like Texas Terriers. Texas Terrier. I'm pretty sure it was his name. Nice. Like the kid's actual name was Texas Terrier. Anyway, big weekend, big week ahead. Can't wait.

SPEAKER_01

It's just uh, you know, like I said, a tradition like uh any other, absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

Um kind of moving along here. Um let's talk a little miscellaneous. Miscellaneous type, like, you know, a little spring practice, a little recruiting.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Did you notice uh I was at the I was at the spring practice uh I guess it was last Monday or last Tuesday. Um didn't get to see much, got to see uh got to see uh a little bit of Deuce I think I think they let us watch practice for 12 minutes. I just watched the quarterbacks the whole time. Deuce Night stood out to me. He looked he looked like he was like six foot seven out there, he looked jacked, the ball just comes out of his hands. Yeah. He's gonna be fun to uh watch the next couple years. Um Pete kind of took a shot at Dabo, but Doc Gree didn't say anything, just kind of was like, I'm not gonna use this podium as some kind of a pool pit, or well, I can't remember exactly what word it was he used, but uh grandstanding or something. Grandstand on, yeah. I mean, Dabo, we said some men down, I won't dwell on that too much, but Dabo, damn it, this is the 20, whatever century this is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to five years ago. Well, hell, welcome to ten years ago. Like there are no rules. I agree, yes. There need to be some rules put in place for all this. Absolutely. But there's not any rules in place.

SPEAKER_01

I mean just like we've always said, just like with the injuries and all that stuff, you know. Yeah. We're gonna we're gonna play up to the the very end.

SPEAKER_00

Like the faking injury stuff. Everybody, for some reason everybody had to always have like acted like that we were that that Ole Miss was the only team that was faking injuries.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

When literally everybody was doing it. Like the only reason we went and got Luke Ferelli anyway is because first of all, Ferrelli hadn't even signed anything with Clemson. He may have signed a letter of intent, but he didn't sign like anything binding. Uh Prince Well, you want a melon or whatever, how you say his name. He'd actually sign like papers and stuff with us. LSU Tank with him, he leaves, so we had to go get somebody else.

SPEAKER_01

And Dottery left. That's the reason why they said, and and he he said that you know, as much in his press conference. He said we were looking for someone to be a green dot, you know, Mike linebacker, and and we had one at the time. And when then we didn't have one, we had to go get one, we had to go get one. And we had already had this opportunity, and the two things opened up. He wanted to be here. We needed that green dot mic because our we had been tampered with. He didn't say that, but that's what we kind of gathered. Everybody knows that's what we gathered from that.

SPEAKER_00

So also uh Caleb De Boer, Alabama's coach, kind of took a jab at Kiffin.

SPEAKER_01

He sure did.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he actually may not have been trying to do that, but he He absolutely did. He absolutely hammered anyway. He looked, I mean I agree with you how could you look your players in the eyes and say, Yeah. I'm leaving. Supposedly somebody chimed in that was in the know I saw on Twitter and said he didn't. He he didn't look his players in the eye in his eye in the eye. He just hid in his office the last like month and like anybody. No, Kippen did.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, of course.

SPEAKER_00

But it's like he said, uh you had to be living under a rock to not to not know that Michigan was interested in him. Oh yeah. And I'm kind of surprised the board didn't take that job, to be honest with you, because he's one more ten and two season away and getting ousted in the first round of the playoffs away from being fired.

SPEAKER_01

I think also though, you're at Alabama, you got something to prove. Like it's not just uh it's not just a like, oh, I'm gonna go take Michigan because it's uh this or that.

SPEAKER_00

But like if you're at Alabama, you don't just give that job up to After I may maybe after the next year he might he probably wouldn't be fired if he did the same thing again, but he'd be going to the hot seat like hell, going to the next uh 2028 season. See, one thing Batman's lucky they didn't lose to Oklahoma. Oklahoma like just gave them that game away. I mean Absolutely. Then Indiana just absolutely Mauled them. Um let's see here. Trump's uh executive order that I hope passes should be bipartisan. Um there's maybe a thing or two I'd add to it, maybe, but I like what what well I think it's uh you can transfer one time without a penalty unless you're a grad transfer.

SPEAKER_01

Five years to play five. Five years to play five.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if it's gonna it I don't know if it'll stick, but uh I think it will because that this is what the NCAA was wanting. They wanted Congress or uh the president, somebody to step in to save their ass, basically uh basically because I mean the Big Ten and SEC have already been meeting. They had a the Big Ten and SEC met up in Nashville or somewhere like last year, a year and a half ago. Yeah. They weren't just getting together to tow champagne, you know what I'm saying? They were they were not. Because everybody knows that we got to have some rules or it's not gonna work. You can't just go like it's been going.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna have to everybody's gonna have to agree to doing all that so they force the hand of who whoever's gonna govern all this to make some decisions about what rules are actually gonna be in place. So if you're gonna you're gonna leave it open to interpretation and you're not gonna have anything set forth, they're gonna all push the envelope until something is done. That's just kind of how things are are done in America. We always push the envelope until somebody says, hey, let's just go. We can't do this anymore about God. You know, just in the hair, you know, and figure out the sweet spot, but we gotta go crazy. I mean, you remember crypto, you know, five, six years ago? Absolutely. But you know, now there's like that's kind of wild, but uh we gotta backed up by nothing. Yeah, exactly. Speaking of backed up by nothing.

SPEAKER_00

Um talk about um the recruitment. Of uh Pete Golden. We've kind of talked about this.

SPEAKER_01

He's not backed up by nothing.

SPEAKER_00

He is the the recruiting staff he has got. Is great actually. Great. He's got all our former childhood heroes on his staff now. I mean, just and look, but even before he hired all those guys, like Frank Wilson and all those that he'd already brought in, I can't wait for Frank Wilson to get that first blue chip from uh Louisiana, because it's gonna happen. Yeah. And they're gonna, you know. LSU fans are really angry.

SPEAKER_01

Um in channels that were not on channels.

SPEAKER_00

They they really I've said this probably 50 million times. The LSU fans and Kiffen, I think they really thought we were just gonna be standing there, oh my god, what are we gonna do? I mean, we're and we're and we're not, we're doing damn good, recruiting. We hadn't really missed a beat on anything. We talked about you know how to play off run.

SPEAKER_01

I mean perspectives that, you know, other parts of the country are completely different about what you have, you know, of the perspectives you have of your own, or information even, you know, about what's going on in the program.

SPEAKER_00

So uh they're fans, I'm just saying, and and Kiffin, they they they can convince that it's just over with. They cannot stand that we're not like oh god, the sky is falling. We've actually moved on for the most part. Yep. I mean anyway, go to Hell LSU. Let's see. Got a few more things here. Um and the Mississippi kids that we were recruiting. Johnny Vaughl always said he loved Mississippi kids, he thought you could build a team around them easily. I mean, just look at all the uh SEC and NFL players in the Hall of Fame that are from Mississippi. Yeah. And that someone didn't necessarily play at O Mr. State, but good talent. Good talent, and w Pete's putting a more of an emphasis on that, judging by the people he's hired. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um I've heard crazy things about Landon Barnes, by the way, in spring practice, that he's just a man among boys.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, what'd they say? Who was it? Brian Brown said he was gonna be a household name like that.

SPEAKER_01

That's high praise.

SPEAKER_00

It sure is, it sure is. I mean, what we they've seen him for like what a week, and anybody can tell that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's that's pretty big time.

SPEAKER_00

Um also one thing we we forgot to talk about. Um the OS Men's golf team um had a top four finish at the uh Mason Rudolph Championship up in Nashville. Um Tom Fisher was second overall. He uh I think one of the Auburn boys beat him by like two shots. And Auburn's just crazy, crazy good. But I think the oldest team, I think they're the golf team is around in the form because in all these meets or whatever you want to call them, tournaments, if you they call it they you want to f if you finish in the top five, yeah, you call it a you call it a good weekend. And we have finished in the top five just about every tournament all year. And with with we're tw we've been twelfth or thirteenth in ranked nationally the whole season. It's just like we have this weekend we didn't kind of top every. Yeah, what I've seen is we've got some guys that's really, you know, really good at the top, but uh I think it's more inconsistency because this what this past weekend what we played good about every day, but there's been like some tournaments the first day we'll play good and be like leading, and then either the second, third, second or third day, one of the two we'll play like it's usually it's usually the second day that we kinda are in on. But if we can put this all together, we got a chance to make another run this year, and regionals are gonna be coming up soon, and it'll be uh be here before you know it. Yeah. Um Mr.

SPEAKER_01

Malloy's gonna have him going.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. I'm gonna try to get him on the pod uh soon. Either this pod or mine and David's new pod. Toddy Land, Toddyland, give it a try. We had one He had one uh episode so far, but um I want to ask Malloy, when I've watched, he don't he's more he's like on the green. He's like more on the like on the grounds more than other coaches. Hands-on. But he's not he don't he don't like intrude, he don't say anything to unless they ask him for something. Interfere. Then he then he gets down like, you know, helps however you can help him read putts and some stuff too, I think. Uh but he's more uh we I don't call it necessarily hands-on, but I want to ask him about that because nobody else does nobody else is down there and as much as he is on the green and he's involved. Involved, yes. Absolutely. By the way, head over to OMS 365 for all the all your uh sports stories, forums. Forums, the forum is getting good, real good on there, and uh the stories are I don't see how David does it. I told him, I said, you write 40 articles a day. He said, I don't write 40. I said, Well, you write five or six, for God's sake, for sure. Oh, you know, that's 40 a week for sure. Lord.

SPEAKER_01
