Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast. I am your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today, we've got a nice different cast of characters here. It's another draft episode. I'll start by introducing the boys. We have first the mayor of Philadelphia. It's Mr. Jeremy Good. Jeremy, how are you?
SPEAKER_02Hello, all. Doing well. Great to see everybody. Didn't do much research for this draft. That's okay. We, you know, I don't feel great. It's okay. It's fine. Uh great to see everyone. Hello.
SPEAKER_05The covering starts already. We also have the man who wears the most hats around the podcast. It is Mr. Michael Blum. Blum, how are you? Hello, Sean. I'm good.
SPEAKER_04I'm also very comfortable as I'm supporting my new TTFD hoodie uh from the merch store.
SPEAKER_05Love that. That's that's a that's a true friend right there. Appreciate that, Blum. And last but certainly not least, we have anything but a tortured fan, probably the happiest guy going. It is Mr. Nick Ryan Amade. Ryan, how are you?
SPEAKER_00I'm happy as can be. The Knicks are in the finals for the first time in my lifetime that I can remember. I was three the last time it happened on Cloud Nine currently. For the rest for the next seven days, I just cannot believe this is my real life. I've already won this draft in my mind.
SPEAKER_05Let's hope that's the only win you get is from the Knicks this week. I won't comment on all their fans coming out of the woodwork. It's disgusting. All these movie stars and music artists that had a cup of coffee in New York and claim to be lifelong fans. Ryan is not in that mold, but I digress. That's for a different episode. Today, as you can tell from the episode title, we have the summer cookout draft. I would say the official start of summer is Memorial Day weekend. I think that's the time of year where everybody turns the internal clock and we're officially ready for summer after Memorial Day. I don't know if you guys agree with that, but why don't we just set the stage for the listeners? Why don't you define what an ideal cookout is? Now we're not going to spoil picks here, but just Jeremy, how about you give us the setting for what a summer cookout is to you?
SPEAKER_02Backyard vibes with friends. I I I don't need much, honestly. You know, I and I don't I don't want it to like part of like there are picks that could go into this. So, like you said, I don't want to spoil, but just like just like a nice late morning into the early afternoon, all the way into the night, just hanging out with friends with food, with activities, you know, great weather, a little wind in the air, stuff like that. I'm not picky. It's nice when other people do the hosting and I just have to commute, but you know, that's you know now, Jeremy.
SPEAKER_05I am a bit concerned for you for this draft because you are a lifelong city slicker, so I'm not so sure that you know what a true backyard barbecue entails.
SPEAKER_00Jerry, have you ever been in a backyard?
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes, I have been in a backyard. I have friends who live in the suburbs. I've been a part of it. It's a fair point, Sean. I'm not, you know, it's I have I I probably haven't had my full share like you guys. A little bit of a disadvantage for me in the draft. No comment on that. I'm not gonna bring it up except for now. But yeah, I mean you're you're right. It's uh it's something that when I do take when I do tend, they're great, but as a city slicker guy, it's uh it's not as often, it's a little different. Uh city could could be a rooftop vibe, too. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Which I think is a different draft. So I think Jarr, you need to be careful of that nuance. There is there's some very specific things that go with the barbecue in the backyard as opposed to a rooftop sort of city shindig. So Blum, Ryan, you guys on the same page, we're all we're all good with what we think a backyard barbecue entails.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think Jarr hit the nail on the head on a lot of things. Obviously, a grill, good company, whether that be friends, family, uh obviously pool. I think a pool is important, uh, whether it be above ground, below ground, uh good spreads, which won't name drop any, because I know we'll get into that in a bit. Late morning, Jarr. I think that's a little early for that kind of cookouts. Did sound early, but everything else though, I agree with.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I would agree as well. Okay. So the stage is set. Draft rules for this one. It is not a free-for-all necessarily. There are specific categories that we have to fulfill. So we will be selecting one main course, two sides, which can be actual sides, they could be appetizers, they could be snacks. That's kind of a catch-all bucket. We'll be selecting one dessert, one beverage, and one activity. You can choose them in any order. So there's some strategy behind that. The draft order for today it is Blum, then myself, then Jeremy, and then Ryan on the wraparound. Blum, I'm gonna kick it over to you for the first pick in the summer cookout draft.
SPEAKER_04Yes, so I have the first pick and I am pretty content with it as Sean and I were talking pre-show. I'm just going for the category where I think there is the largest drop-off between one and two. And that is the activity category. And I will be taking a cornhole. It's the easiest game to explain if no one's played it. You throw a bag in a hole. Anyone can play it at any ages. It's a fun game, just you get two boards and flat ground, a little hookout tournament. Maybe winner gets something. So uh very happy with my my cornhole here at the 101.
SPEAKER_00Okay, it's uh I I don't know if I would have gone one one. Uh, but I do agree there's like a decent drop-off in that category. I think that's important in a draft like this. So I I won't I won't shame you by any means. But that that wouldn't have been my first thought to go one-one. I think we're all we're probably all over the board. So it is a good pick.
SPEAKER_02Blum, great pick. That is my one-one. Cornhole isn't my favorite game, but I think that it is for the cookout vibes. I think that it is the most popular. And when I think of cookout, I think of cornhole for sure. Absolutely. Yeah, that's uh I think that's the pick you had to make there, and I I agree.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's a good one too, because everybody can get involved. You're not excluding anyone with cornhole, whereas some other activities could definitely be exclusive to only certain participants. So I think that's a safe one. I certainly had a first-round grade on it myself. And like you said, well, I'm positional scarcity, just to drop off to the next activity, I do think is is noticeable. So good pick with the second pick. I'm gonna go, man, I I've been strategizing this whole time, wondering what I could do here. And I'm gonna take my dessert off the board because I feel like this is another one with just a big drop off, and I'm gonna take ice cream.
SPEAKER_01That's just my one-one, damn it.
SPEAKER_05Yep. It's just something that it's only really good in the summer. I mean, ice cream's good whenever, but you really only eat it often in the summer because of the weather. So I don't care if it's gallon ice cream, I don't care if you go get some soft serve, I don't care what it is. Having ice cream in the summer at a cookout is ideal for me. So I'm glad to have that as my first pick.
SPEAKER_04That was my one-one. Only argument against that is there's a bit of a shock clock eating it in the hot weather. Obviously, we want a bold, we want a cone. That's a discussion, but that wasn't my top option because of that, but a solid pick nonetheless.
SPEAKER_00There's just nothing like ice cream in the summer. Like, I don't, it doesn't matter where when like the weather, you know, you got like a warm evening, like you just need an ice cream in your hand. So I'm I'm with you, Sean, on that one. That was my first overall, especially because, like you said, the dessert drops off.
SPEAKER_02It's not an exciting pick, but it you can't go wrong with it. I'm not like trying to chirp the pick. Like, it's it's I get I get what you're taking overall. Like it's like ice cream, I get it. Like the weather really helps and the vibes too. So I I get the pick for sure. The all reliable, I guess.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but you do bring up a valid concern. There is definitely a shot clock to it. I'm actually a pretty slow ice cream eater too. I feel like I get brain freeze so fast, so I have to like tip and toe around the cone at all times. So that's not ideal for me, but believe me, I could power through. I'll power through for and and here's the other thing. I'm not gonna say no to too many flavors. I'm pretty much everything's good for me. So whatever you're serving, I'll have a bit of. Thrilled to get ice cream.
SPEAKER_02Would you rather have brain freeze or melted ice cream? Uh brain freeze sucks.
SPEAKER_03That's a great question, Jerry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. And there is there is definitely some strategy involved too. To Larry David brings it up in an episode of Kerber Enthusiasm, but just making sure you cover that cone so there's no drops, there's there's some strategy to that as well. But I think it had to go in the first round. I'm glad, Ryan, you had it as your first overall as well. Jeremy, it's over to you.
SPEAKER_02Well, third pick overall, worst pick you can have. Worst pick. I was gonna say, Jared, that's the toughest pick you can have. Listeners, cross the free space, Dr.
SPEAKER_05Bingo.
SPEAKER_02A number of ways, a number of ways I could go. I agree with Blum that activities are kind of rough after his pick. I will go tough. I don't know where to go. I will go. Jesus, yeah. This is this is rough. I don't know. Um I will go beer. Yeah, that's there's a number of ways I could go. I don't want tip picks, but yeah, I mean you they go down quickly in that weather, and I mean they like they they can hydrate you a little bit. So uh yeah, I'll go, I'll go beer here. Um, it's never failed me during these cookouts, and I don't think it's failed a lot of people either.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, I'll take that for my first pick. That was the equivalent of like when an NBA player kind of like gets fouled and throws up like a prayer and it just goes in, and they're like, whoa, whoa, happened. That's exactly right.
SPEAKER_05It was out on her feet for a second and then landed a haymaker.
SPEAKER_02That is pretty spot on. Yeah, do you even have a list in front of you? I do not, no. I'm coming listen, I know I was gonna make this draft. No excuses, although I want that on the record. Don't love my draft position. No excuses, want that on the record. So, yeah, we're shooting from the hip for this one.
SPEAKER_05Jeremy was given three days' notice that he would be participating in this draft, and his last communication was that he would make it. So, listeners, everything he says is is just fabricated as usual. So take it with a grain of salt. Ryan, it's over to you for two.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm I'm debating what to do philosophically here. There's a couple different directions I can go with the back-to-backs here. I'm gonna go. All right, I'm gonna take. Um what do I want to do? Don't do it to me, Ryan. There's three, I'm between three. I'm between three. Okay. Let's go. Let's we're gonna go corn on the cob. Summertime, fresh, sweet corn on the cob is a unique thing that I feel like is just like perfect for a cookout. Uh, it's got its like real niche for a couple months a year, and that is like a summer cookout. So to me, that that's gonna be my my my pick here.
SPEAKER_05Yep, it's synonymous with summer. You're not eating corn eating corn on the cob in the dead of winter. So I think that it's a good pick. I had a first round grade on that one as well. So really good. Yep, okay. That was my that was my one-one side.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, good pick. I would just kind of loop it in the ice cream category of some obstacles having to eat it. But other than that, uh, what if you don't have two hands? Well, you gotta put some effort into it. Like you can't multitask with an activity. That's like you're focusing on one thing. You can't use two hands.
SPEAKER_03Two hands. You're wearing you're wearing a little bit of it.
SPEAKER_05You're wearing a little bit of it. And Jeremy, you have a notoriously small mouth, so I'm interested if you could even eat corn on the cop. Baby, baby bites.
SPEAKER_02It it takes it takes a while to get from ear from ear to ear.
SPEAKER_03Good pick. That's right.
SPEAKER_02Off the cop. So Ryan, good pick. Again, I'm not sharp with the pick. Kind of like not the most exciting, but like it's a staple. No, it's not exciting.
SPEAKER_00That's why I was a little nervous to take it.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, but still a good pick. Throw it on the grill, too. Wow, that is good.
SPEAKER_00That's a great butter on there. Oh, yeah. Yeah, okay. Number two, I'm gonna throw a fastball down the middle. Give me burgers. I want burgers off the grill. Some people may argue that hot dog's the better pick here. I'm we can tip that crap. Yeah, that's a tip pick, I guess. Sorry. Put fine in the fine jar. Yeah, obviously, someone's gonna take that, but uh to me, burger's the one-one entree, and that's what I want on my plate at a summer cookout. What's on your burger, Roy?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but did you you didn't say cheeseburger? So could we just put you down for hamburger?
SPEAKER_00Obviously, cheeseburger.
SPEAKER_05Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02It's got two picks, it's got two picks. You only have one.
SPEAKER_05I think cheeseburger still might be on the board. No, it's that's obviously a heavy hitter. And it's tomato tomato. Listen, in all honesty, I'm doing one of each, at least. Yeah, for sure. So there's no shit. It's but bang for your buck, burger is the way to go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yep. That's my one-one for entree. They don't even have to be good, like, it could just be like a grocery store brand, and like you know what you're getting into. Like, it's all it never fails. So, yeah, those for entre.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there, yeah, it's it's hard to mess up.
SPEAKER_05It is, yeah. Jeremy, your second rounder. I'm interested to see. We might have to institute a shot clock. So a number of ways we can play warning.
SPEAKER_02Fire from the hip. I don't know where to go, which because I got two two guys behind me who draft well. I will go one. One, yeah. Yeah. I'll go. Oh, I want to take this, but I think this is really, really good. For my entree, I will go ribs. I think it's a great entree. Great for a cookout, goes really well. You can marinate marinate those puppies for hours, really prepare them. You get a little Traeger, you got a little blackstone. That is a great cookout food.
SPEAKER_00You cooking ribs on the Blackstone, Jer?
SPEAKER_02Not on the Blackstone, yeah. Sorry. But uh, but yeah, but uh, I mean, maybe you could maybe figure it out a little bit, I guess. But uh, yeah, I'll take I'll take ribs. Can we uh make sure Jir gets napkins as well?
SPEAKER_04Wet naps, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Jer, that's don't let them be haters.
SPEAKER_02Ribs is actually a pretty good pick. Thank you. And I I want the wet naps that comes with the ribs too. So that's voters, think about that too.
SPEAKER_00There is a decent, I would say there's a decent variance on ribs though. Like, contrary to what we just talked about with burgers, like pretty much every burger is gonna be at least like pretty good. If the ribs aren't cooked long enough or the wrong barbecue sauce gets you, like there, there is a risk factor there a little bit.
SPEAKER_02I think differently. I think that burgers, I well, like I said before, don't have to be perfect. You know what you're getting into, it's great. I think it's really hard to mess up ribs. That's why it's so great.
SPEAKER_05I would lean more towards what what Ryan said there. I think I'm pretty particular. I'm not a huge ribs guy because I think that I've had bad ribs and I'm just completely grossed out by those. I won't even eat them. But then my dad's ribs, who he I hate to give him credit, he makes phenomenal smoke ribs, they fall off the bone. Yeah, those are good. So I think there's a big discrepancy in good versus bad.
SPEAKER_02With my ribs, with my pick, I have Dave on the grill with the ribs, so that that goes with the pick. Put that on the graph. Yeah. Dave's ribs.
SPEAKER_05I can't believe this fell back to me in the second round, but yeah. I just have to take the layup here. I don't know if you were all on the same page. I'm gonna take mac and cheese as a side. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I thought you were going something different there. Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_05I think there are other of the categories that I still don't have that I am indifferent between the options on the board. Mac and cheese, that is the best side available for me.
SPEAKER_00So that's interesting.
SPEAKER_05Happy to have that. There's nothing that goes better with barbecue than mac and cheese.
SPEAKER_00I yeah, I didn't even have it on my list. I I don't I don't even interpret mac and cheese as like a summer cookout side. I'm not saying it's a bad like a bad pick or anything. Like I just it didn't even occur to me as like a thought.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that's a staple, I would say, at most cookouts. I don't think somebody's bringing mac and cheese, homemade mac and cheese.
SPEAKER_02I don't completely agree with Ryan, but I do think like mac and cheese, everybody like includes mac and cheese with everything. Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving, barbecues. It's great. Like mac and cheese is great, but like it's it's it's it's everybody uses it now, which is awesome. I mean, it's great, but like I don't know here.
SPEAKER_05I I do think there is an oversaturation of the market on mac and cheese, but I think it's more out of place in the winter months than at a Christmas or a Thanksgiving. I think it's completely out of bounds at Thanksgiving, by the way. Yeah, that's that's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_00Mac and cheese is like a homey, comfort, warm, like I get the winter thing. I don't I actually completely disagree with that.
SPEAKER_02I'd rather, I'm with Sean. I'd rather have it over the summer barbecue cookout.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'll need it anytime, but I think when you think of a cookout, if you just think of a buffet line at a cookout, a scoop of mac and cheese is making its way on everybody's plate.
SPEAKER_00I think it's this is a cultural thing, I think. Because like I'm not a fan of it, but there's another pick that is in that same family that I don't like and I would never get at a barbecue. But like that, I would say is a more popular cookout side than than mac and cheese. And I think I don't like that one. So but yeah, like to me personally, I don't think mac and cheese made a lot of appearances at at summer cookouts. I mean, and that may be uh difference between Connecticut and Central Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_04Alright, I believe I am up for two, correct? Yes. So I'm thrilled to get this where I'm drafting it, especially after Ryan name dropped it. I thought you were going there, Sean, but going hot dog and entree. I prefer burgers over hot dogs. I'll eat a burger over hot dogs every day of the week, but hot dogs are very synonymous with hookouts, easy to eat. You could down three, four of them if you wanted to. Hold one while you're throwing a bag at Cornhole. So very happy to get a hot dog there.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Had to do it. Yep, and and indefinitely, Blum. I would say here's how I'd grade it. I think pick wise, I think it's phenomenal. I think it's gonna look good on the board. It's synonymous with summer, it's synonymous with the cookout. I just prefer I think entree was the deepest category for me. I there's so many good entrees you can throw on a grill. Taste-wise, I don't think hot dog stacks up, but it should go, it should go in the first round or second round of this draft. So a very good pick.
SPEAKER_04Like you said, Sean, it'll look good on the draft board, which is all I care about.
SPEAKER_00It will. And I think like you can throw all this bougie stuff on the grill, and yes, there are some good picks late for sure. But when you're in that summer cookout mindset, you want a burger and you want a dog. So I'm I think it's a great pick. Great value here. Eight, what, eight picks in? That's incredible value.
SPEAKER_02The value's very good. I'm with Sean though. I'd rather have I'm not picking a hot dog, but like it's a staple over the years for stuff. But like, I'm not picking a hot dog over a burger, over ribs, over other things. But like it's just I get it. Like, the value is great for sure. It's kind of like uh like Christmas window art dressing, like it's out on the you know, display at Macy's, no one's gonna buy it. Yeah, curve. It's it's right, it's yeah, exactly. Kerba feel.
SPEAKER_05Which makes it a good pick. So definitely, definitely shouldn't have been there. So good pick, Blum.
SPEAKER_02I'm all about value, so Blum, good pick.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, great analogy analogy there, Jar, as always. For my next pick, since we need two sides, I'm going to take my first one here with potato salad. In my opinion, uh the best of these salads could go homemade, could go store bought. I normally always go store bought. Whole Foods Wegmans has a good one too. So uh I'll take potato salad here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Boyle and I are looking at each other. We're we're not mayo guys. Not mayo guys.
SPEAKER_05So bum. And here's another one, bum. It's gonna look real nice for you on the board. It is for sure synonymous with summer. It's just you couldn't pay me to eat it. So I don't even know what it tastes like, to be honest. So I I can't talk about it.
SPEAKER_02Again, value-wise, good pick. It would be an undrafted free agent. Maybe for me, I don't like potato salad, but again, like it's it's one of those things at the cookout where it's it's it's up there at the top for sides. I get it. It's just not my thing, but yeah, good.
SPEAKER_00This is one where Blum, if you really intimately knew your counterparts in this giraffe, you could have gotten this in the last round.
SPEAKER_04Fair, but I'm the I'm the pandering pandering bear this this draft. I'm just pulling for the sexy draft board. Uh someone's gotta do it, and I'm happy to wear that around.
SPEAKER_00I guess I could have played like Shane and Jar and picked potato salad, even though I've never eaten it. So I guess I could have done that. It's clear.
SPEAKER_02Listen, Blum, don't I've tried the pandering. You can't do it with this voter base. It's a waste of time. Don't get drafted that. They're gonna vote for Sean regardless.
SPEAKER_05That's not true. I'm I'm rooting for you guys now. I've won so many of these. I haven't lost yet. I'm rooting, I'm gonna pitch my wagon to Blum. I might be I might become a potato salad guy.
SPEAKER_02You may like see me rooting on potato salad in the polls. A lot of there are a lot of rulers who haven't lost elections over the year, too. I'll just put it at that. No names.
SPEAKER_05That's crazy. Oh, please. I I can't believe how many good options are still on the board in the side department. I I feel like they're going. I thought because we had to take two of them that they would be flying off the shelves. So I'm in a situation where I could pander and take one that I really, really don't care for, but think it'll play well. Or I could go in a different direction. And I'm gonna pander. I'm gonna take baked beans. Baked beans are just another classic summertime staple. I don't care for them. They're fine. I'll I'll eat a couple of them. They're just not my cup of tea, really. But I think in terms of what makes up a summertime meal, I think baked beans are another one that's just always a right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I have a love-hate relationship with beans. I loved them as a kid, grew out of them as like I got through into college and then less clear as I got back into them. So great pick there, Sean. That was my I think number third overall side. Okay. So uh no no complaints there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not my favorite. Wouldn't wouldn't have probably taken it in this draft. I get it. It's like, you know, if we're if we're creating like a vision board of like summer cookout, sure, you guys are, you know, that's fine. I thought we were picking like what we thought was good, but there's Ryan again on his high horse looking down on all of us.
SPEAKER_05You know what, Ryan? Sorry, assume me, I like mac and cheese and baked beans. God damn it.
SPEAKER_02I want that on the merch. Next merch, that's on the merch. Yeah, I'm I'm with Ryan. Like, I don't again, like, it's a good pick. It goes well with a cookout. I'm not a baked beans guy, but like what what you know, that's that's the first thing I guess people think of when it comes to sides, I think. So yeah, I mean, value. Well, well, here's the little tip for Jerry.
SPEAKER_05I think Bloom has caught on, as he said. He's taking picks. He he's going to win the draft. Like, he's that's what his goal is here today. If you guys want to win the draft, maybe you should start taking picks like baked beans that maybe aren't your favorite cup of tea, but might win you at poll. And until you start doing that, I don't want to hear the criticisms and the slander about rigged ballots and things of that nature. So please let's put our best foot forward in terms of winning. It's almost like you're tanking. I always I always do. I don't know you do. You didn't prepare a single scene for this one.
SPEAKER_02I have beer and ribs, knock it off. That's now I'm about to take on this draft right now. All right, what do you got, Jared? Help to see it. All right, number of ways I can go. I should probably get a side off the board. I will go, I'm gonna take an activity. I am going to go red cup games. You have beer pong and you have flip cup.
SPEAKER_03I'm taking the red cup games.
SPEAKER_04Do we want to give him all of that? Or does he get a drinking game?
SPEAKER_05All those is that what we're calling it drinking game? Like, what's gonna go?
SPEAKER_00I like that he just I like that he assumed that he could just do that. That was a very funny move. Snake. I respect it almost.
SPEAKER_04I want any games with competition.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, any games with a ball. Well, listen, if that's the case, sign me up. But I I think it's a real red, you know, plastic cup games, like that. Yeah. That's what I'm gonna put on the graphic, plastic cup games. No, no, no. Put in parents, like beer pong. I don't have room for parents.
SPEAKER_05No, I don't. So we need to we need to narrow this down because I do need to red solo cup games. People will know what I what I mean. Solo cup games, yeah. I don't think we need to do the I think we know what color they are for the most part. Okay, I'll just Jeremy. I think beer pong would pop more on a grip. I do too. That's why I was kind of leading you into that direction, Jeremy, but you didn't take it.
SPEAKER_02I'm not trying to be argumentative, like if if that's the case, like if that if I should just take beer pong, that's fine.
SPEAKER_05Or flip cup. I think either one of those two is better than solo cup games.
SPEAKER_02All right, I'll take well, I'll take both.
SPEAKER_05Plus, yeah. Pick one.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_05We're trying to help you for the graphic. I think I don't know. I like both.
SPEAKER_03Like I like beer pong more, but I know more flip cup everyone.
SPEAKER_05I remember the last time I played beer pong in my freshman year of college. It was fun. I mean now.
SPEAKER_00Don't let the haters Jar, don't let Sean. I think it's don't let Sean do that. I like the phone. You play beer pong frequently, Ryan?
SPEAKER_01No, I'm a I'm a grown man, but I mean it's a horrible pick.
SPEAKER_03Alright, Flip Cup. That's more for the uh our demographic flip cup.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, what flip cup more so than beer pong. It's both both are we've outgrown both for sure. But hey, Jeremy, I'm not gonna tell you how to run your cookout. I think it'll be a great time for those in attendance.
SPEAKER_02Listen, I want I want plastic cup games. That's like that, those are those are popular. That's what that's what the kids are playing, that's what the boomers are playing, the unks. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05And again, I was trying to help you. I think Blum was too. We'll give you plastic cup games. I just think that would look worse on a graphic than no, but I agree.
SPEAKER_02That's fine. We can go, we can go with Flip Club, and they're like, oh my god, I remember when I was 12. It's like, guys, Flip Club is a staple. It is a staple, right of passage.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I just haven't played Flip Cup at a summer cookout in my life. So it's just different cookouts. It's sort of like the mac and cheese thing with Ryan. It just wasn't at my cookout.
SPEAKER_03So that's fine.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Kappa SIG will have a great time at Draco.
SPEAKER_02Any any friends who want to sponsor the pod, email us. Politely decline those. Right.
SPEAKER_00I am going to first go. Uh okay, I'm gonna go another dessert because I I think this is the number two dessert, in my opinion, and then it drops off again. So I'm gonna take s'mores. You're outside, summer cookout, gets a little dark, fires roaring, or get the s'mores going. It's a little sticky, a little messy.
SPEAKER_03My job. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Can I can I say I don't want to actually voice, I don't want to sound like just this hater. I I'm trying to spread positivity. It's warm out, it's beautiful weather. We're trying to spread cheer. S'mores are just a bit a bit overrated. Maybe. I'm just not saying I'm running to the s'mores at anything.
SPEAKER_00I mean, if you know what you're doing and you're going, you're throwing a Reese's in there or you're you're getting creative with it, you know. Well, I'm not, it doesn't necessarily have to be, you know, yeah, like it doesn't have to be 80, 80 down the middle. It can be you can you can throw some some some curveballs in there, get some get some nice candy going. I I'm a Reese's guy myself, personally. So I've never I've never done that. So that seems like it would elevate it. Elite. And again, it's just synonymous with summer. Like, like there's just certain things that you want when you're like hanging outside with your friends and family all day at a cookout, and that to me is like a perfect like let's cap this off. Now, would I take ice cream for sure, but this is in my opinion the next best thing.
SPEAKER_05And I agree with you on that point. Very synonymous with summer. I just wanted to give you a little pushback because I took baked beans, which are synonymous with summer, and I got some, I got some my way.
SPEAKER_02So I will say in the northeast, even at night, it's still humid. We're still in the high 80s. I don't know if I want to make a fire. That's just a little too much heat on heat, but I mean, yeah, good pick.
SPEAKER_00Just because you can't make a fire on your rooftop doesn't mean that people don't do it.
SPEAKER_02No, you can.
SPEAKER_05I'm not saying, of course you can, but yeah, Jared, it's always hotter in the city too, off the pavement. Out in the woods, it you it there's a nice breeze when the sun goes down. Ever heard one country song in your life? That's what they're all about. When the sun goes down, there's a fire.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm I'm really between I thought one was kind of obvious first. I'm going to take, and this is like if you know, you know. I'm gonna take, I'm taking potato chips with French onion dip as a side. Elite, elite. You could eat an entire bag and eat an entire thing of that dip. It is unbelievable. And I know what you're about to say. You're looking at me. I know what you're about to say. This goes against my usual uh because I'm not like a mayo guy, I don't eat ranch, like any of that stuff. Something about this onion dip does it for me. And I'm not an onion guy either. I'll even add that. Something about it is just so addicting, and it is perfect for a summer cookout. You got the burger on the plate with that, little corn on the cob. It's it's fantastic. So I know, I know you're giving me that look, Sean. I know. But this is one for me that I it's incredible, and it's even better on a nice summer cookout.
SPEAKER_05Ryan, hey, you know what? I'm just gonna say I'm happy you're happy with the pick. I I have never dabbled with that French onion dip because I'm scared of it, because it lives in that mayo family. And also, I'm not necessarily the f the first thing that comes to mind for a cookout isn't chips for me. Now I know there is definitely a seat at the table for them. I feel like that's kind of like an appetizer you pick at before the the grilling's done. It's just it missed my board, is all I would say. But you were passionate about it, and I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, French onion dip is probably my favorite dip. So I'm with you there, Rye. That just was not on my radar for a cookout. I just normally eat it like when I'm on the couch, like watching TV, but great pick because I've never had a bad French onion dip.
SPEAKER_00If I did that every time I sat on the couch and watched TV, I would weigh 800 pounds. So I gotta save it for special occasions.
SPEAKER_05I hear mosquitoes love that dip. I was waiting for a pick to throw that bomb onto.
SPEAKER_00All right. Jeremy? Jared, no, Jared, do you like that? Jared do you like French onion dip or no?
SPEAKER_02Not really, but a lot of people do. I respect, I respect. Like that's enough. No, like you got really specific too. So, like, like like Sean said, I'm happy, I'm happy, you're happy. Like, I get it.
SPEAKER_00I get that that pick works for a lot, a lot of people. So yeah. I'm hoping the general public is on my side with this one and they and they they get it. But I do understand where you're coming from, Sean. This is not something that I would typically include in my diet.
SPEAKER_02Alright. I gotta go sides. I'm happy with this pick. Third pick is just tough in this kind of draft, but I'm very happy at this value. I will take as a side, I will take a baked potato. You can get a little fix-ins, you can get bacon, you can get cheese. That's what I would get. A baked potato. Oh my god. Oh my god. You can throw it on the grill? Are you kidding? We're laughing at baked potato.
SPEAKER_04In your defense, I don't think that pick was warranted of that reaction. Yeah, it wasn't on my board.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_05Hey, this is just one bum. I'm glad you jumped in there because I listen, there's different we all grow up in different environments. This is one I've just never had in the summer. You want to talk about hot on hot? Big potato comes out of that grill or oven fucking screaming hot. And I just couldn't picture myself eating it in the middle of July. But hey, Jerry.
SPEAKER_00I really do. You're eating cold burgers then, I guess.
SPEAKER_02That's what you're saying. No hot on hot, cold burgers are levels.
SPEAKER_00There's levels to it in here. It's like you want to pick chicken noodle soup next.
SPEAKER_02No, I already have not, Dre. Never heard of ribs. I don't know. Listen, you put butter in it, you put some cheddar cheese, bacon. It's good. Yes, it's heavy. It's good. It's it's heavy, dude.
SPEAKER_03You're playing cornhole after that? Oh my god. Cornhole?
SPEAKER_05You can't do it. I well, I was gonna say my pick that I was gonna take for activity, but I can't tip it yet. But you can't you can't do you're in the couch after a baked potato. But hey, listen, to each to each of their own. I just I didn't have that one near the board.
SPEAKER_02That's fine. I I I don't get it. Blum's with me. I I mean is he with you? Partially. Partially with you.
SPEAKER_05It doesn't sound like Blum was really with you.
SPEAKER_02No, he was. He was. I mean, that reaction was absurd from you two.
SPEAKER_01I I couldn't hold it in. I can't believe it.
SPEAKER_02That's just listen, listen, listen, everyone. I'm the guy that they pick to chirp the picks. That's fine. I embrace it. It it hurts sometimes. I mean, I feel like I'm an alien, but it's alright. I'm I'm I'm that guy. I'll be your punching boy.
SPEAKER_05No, we we chirp equally across the board here. So all like you see it. Yeah, we're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02That's why it doesn't have to be your favorite pick, but oh my god, we're acting like baked potato is not a cookout food.
SPEAKER_05It's not. You could argue it's not. Again, this is like we I Jared, I can I jumped into your defense and caveated it saying, hey, we all grew up in different backgrounds with different cookouts. Baked potato has never made its way into a boyle family cookout. Well, the boils are missing out, let me tell you. Let me tell you. The beverage category has only been dipped into by Jeremy with beer. Nobody else has taken one there. I I think there's I think there's two really good options. So I'm gonna play the waiting game another round. And I'll go ahead and take my activity, which this is this might lose me the graphic, but I think it's I think it's something I do all the time in the backyard. Have a catch. Just play catch. Football, baseball, whatever it is. And and I have a parentheses, run a couple routes. You know, if somebody has a QB and you run an air route, I love that. I think that's just I I prefer the football on the graphic, but I'm gonna put have a catch. Any any objections there?
SPEAKER_00No, I I I had it on my list. I do like the pick for sure. And and Jerry, you're you're kidding yourself if you have not done this. Like everyone has done this. Oh, I have very fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's fine. It works, it's just like it's a little boring, but again, like yeah, it works. It's great. I've done it. I agree with Sean. It's have a catch, it's not play catch too. So I appreciate that. Agree. That wording. And uh yeah, I again, like, I've never had a bad time having a catch, sure, but like let's see, let's be a little different. Let's get a little exciting here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, Sean. Good pick. Get more exciting, like baked potatoes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sorry.
SPEAKER_05I might have to take a break from Flip Cup to have. That's a sign.
SPEAKER_02That's a sign. The signs can only get oh, baked beans, that's awesome. Hey, hey, Jimmy, we got baked beans, bud.
SPEAKER_05We're going back to the original point when we let off the show. We were not sure if Jared's ever been to a cookout, and his draft is shaping up. He has no room to play catch. He can only play Flip Cup. He's he's eating he's eating winter foods exclusively. He's making a mess of himself with ribs. I don't know. Okay, please. Oh, all right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Take out your jerk. Hit my uh second uh side plum. Thanks.
SPEAKER_04All right, so I'm up for two. So just looking here, what would look good on a graphic? What would look good on? So I'm gonna go back to another side. I'm going to go with fruit salad. It is a staple at the Blum cookout. It's you can easily eat it. It's cool, it'll calm you down. Get your watermelons, your grapes, pineapples, whatever you want in there, cantaloupe. Easy to eat, feels good. Uh so happy to get fruit salad here.
SPEAKER_05Blum, I actually had fruit salad as one of my, I think it was my third side, but I'd already taken two sides, so I couldn't take it. Fruit salad, it it what I like about it is it incorporates everything. Because I even thought about putting the watermelon and pineapple as my dessert. If I couldn't get ice cream, I was actually gonna take watermelon as dessert. So I'm happy that you got it.
SPEAKER_01Tip and picks, no?
SPEAKER_05What's that? Thanks. Well, Blum kind of took it already. I feel like he took it. He mentioned watermelon in his fruit salad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00My one that I was between for a side was literally the chips and dip thing and watermelon. Like watermelon to me, just like by itself. I'm not a fruit salad guy. I get weird about fruit touching each other. I'm not into it, but watermelon is a pure summer element. That should still be on the draft board, I think.
SPEAKER_02Nothing against Bumps Pick is great, but like I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I think I would give you just knocking out all fruit.
SPEAKER_05Because I could I could narrow it down if you don't think no, I think you get fruit salad for sure. You don't have to specify because that's what you took. Now, whether watermelon is still draft eligible or not, well, you guys, you guys could maybe take it, but I do think the pick is diminished because Blum has watermelon and other good fruits with his pick. So that's where I would leave that. Yeah, okay. That's fine. If that's if that's a ruling, that's fine. Because I did have water, I mean everybody should have had watermelon, I think, on their board as well.
SPEAKER_04Alright, so for my next pick, I'm going to go with a dessert. And I know I slightly bashed the ice cream pick because you have to eat it quick. You see, I know I'm contradicting myself here, but I'm gonna go popsicle. I love a good popsicle at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_00What kind of popsicle are we talking about?
SPEAKER_04Just like your bare bones, normal, like cherry, uh orange, like flavored, not thinking.
SPEAKER_00Are we talking like the freeze pops?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, freeze pops. Okay, freeze pops. Okay, it's on a stick.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, no, we're talking about freeze pops. Like a popsicle. Okay, well, no, but there's different kinds of popsicle, like freeze pop is like the little tube that you freeze.
SPEAKER_02Those tipping tipping picks, those are great though, Ryan. Great. The Flintstone splinter.
SPEAKER_05You took your original pick, popsicle is on a stick, so you were right. Yeah, but when you when Ryan asked about freeze pops, you said yes, also. Those are different. I didn't know that, so that's yeah.
SPEAKER_00You just want a basic cherry popsicle. Doesn't have to be cherry, I'm just taking or whatever on a stick, popsicles, but I would like all flavors. Okay, got it.
SPEAKER_05Refreshing, refreshing for sure. I I obviously I can't believe you took popsicles after shitting on ice cream saying it had a shot clock, but whatever. I digress. I will take with my fifth round pick, I'll take my beverage off the board. Super excited that it fell to me. I'll take a lemonade. I'll just take a lemonade. Jared, Jared's making faces about lemonade for the audio listeners. I mean, this guy, he's never been to a cookout confirmed.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I love lemonade. Great drink.
SPEAKER_04But like lemonade's a good pick. Yeah, good pick. I love it. It was in my top three for beverages.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. Thank you. I thought I was going crazy. I was the only one who liked lemonade. Now it's a bit sugary. Sometimes you just like need a little hint of lemonade with some water on ice, but that that flavor does the trick in the summer. Lemon's a good summer flavor.
SPEAKER_00Especially by you, you got that Turkey Hill lemonade, which is dynamite. That's right. Shout out, Turkey Hill.
SPEAKER_02Shout out, no free ads. Jeremy, I'm I'm in my seat here. Well, there's a number of ways I can go here. Again, third pick, tough position. But I will go, I will go my second side. I will go something. I think this is a great value. I will go cornbread. You can throw it on the grill. It's a nice little alternative. It's delicious. Put some butter on it too. Oh my god. Cornbread, that's a summer staple. I'm happy to walk the cornbread to the team.
SPEAKER_04Jeremy, I'm with you on this pick.
SPEAKER_01Jerry's eating Thanksgiving dinner on purpose. Jeremy, this isn't a Thanksgiving draft. Oh my god, they took we had macaroni cheese with the first overall pick, Ryan.
SPEAKER_02How is that Thanksgiving in a nutshell? I respect Blum. I respect Blum. He can go ahead and speak. Thank you, Blum. I didn't comment yet.
SPEAKER_05I didn't comment yet. I was laughing at Ryan's reaction. I don't think it's completely outrageous. It's another one that wasn't on my board, but I like cornbread. So, Jeremy, I do think cornbread's a really good food.
SPEAKER_01Cornbread is good. Yeah, I didn't say that.
SPEAKER_02You've never had it at a cookout, Ryan.
SPEAKER_01No. I've had it in November.
SPEAKER_02Like with some chili or like a Thanksgiving dinner.
SPEAKER_04It was a good pick again. Thank you. Thank you. Is can it be eaten at all times of the year? Yes. Have I had it with very hot meals? Yes. But also I do enjoy it as a side at a cookout. So for that reason, I will be like 6040 in your favor, Jer. So good.
SPEAKER_05Which isn't exactly like a ringing endorsement, Jeremy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Majority, majority 60.
SPEAKER_00Are we gonna look at Jair's plate based on this draft? It's like something's put in a slow cooker all day.
SPEAKER_02You need like three plates to carry it because it's so heavy. Listen up, listen up, tortured fans. I can't do anything right in Ryan's eyes. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm the son who just can't do anything right in the family. I'm sorry, guys. Happy content.
SPEAKER_05That fresh new haircut is gonna do great on all these clips you're putting out. You are a content king, my boy.
SPEAKER_02I will say in this weather, too, the haircut goes great with this weather, cool cools it down. So it does. Doesn't count for a pick, though, but it goes with the pick.
SPEAKER_05It's a little self-ventilation system you have in place, sir. Yes. I like it.
SPEAKER_02All right, Ryan, your last two picks.
SPEAKER_05Cross cornbread off your board.
SPEAKER_02Dang it. A lot of versatility with cornbread too. Could it be a dessert? Sure. Is it? No, not on this draft. It's fair.
SPEAKER_05It it it does it does have positional versatility. Could line up in the slot.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm I'm just gonna be I'm gonna continue to to with my draft philosophy, which is being authentically myself and hope that the people like it. So far they haven't.
unknownThat's worked.
SPEAKER_05You like what you get last time, by the way. Stop.
SPEAKER_00Uh so this round, I've been getting really Into this, I've been making a bunch of these. I'm gonna take a Hugo Spritz. My my new favorite drink. Uh, you got the lime, the fresh mint, the Saint Germain. It is an excellent summer drink. Uh, so that's gonna be my my my beverage.
SPEAKER_05Ryan, I tip my cap. Great, great, great drink. Really good. Really good. I do worry how it's gonna play on the board. I don't know if everybody's a ball knower, but yeah, again, boy, that's a good that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. I'm I'm glad. Anyone else had a Hugo Spritz recently?
SPEAKER_04I've had a Hugo. Not Hugo.
SPEAKER_00Bad. Not an Aperol fan.
SPEAKER_04Those are good in the summer too, Bob. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're a they're a light on your feet drink.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00So I've been getting real in the Hugo Spritz game. So that's gonna be my pick. And then my last pick for an activity. I'm going to. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just gonna do this. I'm gonna take wiffle ball. Love playing wiffle ball in the summertime. I mean, as long as you have, you know, four to six people, you can get like a little wiffle ball game. You can make variations based on the environment you're in. Love wiffle ball. As a kid, it's a classic. Uh doesn't get played enough nowadays, but if you got a big enough yard, it's an iconic summer activity.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and having that like great setup where you can, you know, mimic the home run. Yeah, that was always great as a kid.
SPEAKER_02So thank you. Great pick. Love wiffle ball. You better hope you have the dimensions, though, like, because we might not have you might not have the back feet the backyard for that, but but I always love playing wiffle ball. It's so fun. So like I I love I love the activity for sure. Great value.
SPEAKER_00Thank you, worm.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you guys covered it. I think you guys both nailed it with you need the dimensions, but it is a lot of fun, especially if you get the fence set up. That's that's good stuff. I didn't have it on my board, but that was an omission by me. I should have.
SPEAKER_02Me too. Me too. All right. Back to me. Last pick. All right. Alright, boys. I'm about to wrap this baby up and take this win. My dessert. It's a staple. Oh my goodness. We're gonna get the Pillsbury sugar cookies with the picture on the top, like Spider-Man or whatever that picture was on those cookies that you get at the grocery store, those sugar cookies that you can kind of half bake, you can fully bake them. They're good regardless, regardless. I'm taking those cookies. Sean, do you have all that for the graphic? Put a picture for the graphic. No words, just put a picture. Put the Pillsbury sugar. Put the Pillsbury, they listen. The people know we all grew up on them. Don't like we we know what I'm talking about. They're delicious. They're always at these cookouts. I mean, these these cookies they go quickly, they're easy, they're fun. What more they're delicious? What more could you ask?
SPEAKER_00You genuinely, you genuinely like these cookies like a lot, like more than other desserts that you could have picked here.
SPEAKER_02No, I like the desserts you guys took ahead of me, but where I'm drafting with my last pick, I'm fine. Like I'm fine with the pick, ultimately, if if you get what I mean.
SPEAKER_05That's fair. That's fair for sure. There the dessert category was definitely picked over.
SPEAKER_00These are always like uh it's like one of those things that they like kind of look nice when they're out, but it's never something that I reach for personally. So I wasn't sure if like that's uh if that's a commonly held bleed. I'm curious, Blum Sean, if you guys are insane, but I'll be honest here.
SPEAKER_04I lost you with like five words in.
SPEAKER_02So that was excited. I was excited to bring this these these pillows bearing cookies to the team, so I get it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I actually don't know which specific cookie you're referring to, but I know like in general, I know the general direction you're going for. Sug summer sugar cookie, little decoration on the front. I know what you're talking about, Jeremy.
SPEAKER_02These cookies, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, those you pop them like tic-tacks, those things. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02You can undergo down. You can undercook them too, and they're they're great.
SPEAKER_05Once again, those are nowhere near the summer for me. These are another like classic pumpkin those with pumpkins on them?
SPEAKER_02Slap, Jeremy. Those are the pumpkins. Yeah, those are great too. Yeah, I agree with you, Sean. Like that's obviously seasonal because of the pumpkin, sure. You could even have the pumpkins over the summer in their delivery.
SPEAKER_05They're a good little cookie.
SPEAKER_00I will I couldn't, I couldn't do three in a row. I wasn't I I wasn't gonna go down that road. I'm glad someone else said it.
SPEAKER_05Oh boy. My final pick, I left entree because you guys had all taken them, and there's still several good options left. I'm gonna take pooled pork. I think pooled pork it goes with my mac and cheese and baked beans. I mean, stop that right now. That is that's a phenomenal plate if we're talking about building a plate. But I think smoked pooled pork with the barbecue sauce not on top of it specifically. I hate when people cake it in barbecue sauce, and then all you taste is a barbecue sauce and the sugar. Smoked the pulled pork, the meat should do the work. So I think I'm happy with that as my last pick. There's a couple of ones I was between though that I'll mention in honorable mentions. Jeremy, do you know what a pulled pork goes great with as a side?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, blum, should I say? Corn bread. Cornbread. So, Jerry, you like the pick? Yeah, I like the pick. I don't know if it's like a staple for a cookout, but they it definitely it's definitely at the cook uh at a decent amount of cookouts. It's not the first entree, I think, but I'm always happy when I see pulled pork at one of these kind of events. So yeah, love it. It goes great with my one on my side. So that's a great endorsement for the corner bread. Thank you, Sean.
SPEAKER_00It's a more upscale, it's a more upscale vibe, but I do I agree. Pulled pork is great, it is a good summer pick. No, no complaints. I had it on my board for sure in case some of the other ones went.
SPEAKER_05So it is Mr. Irrelevant, and then we'll get into some honorable mentions and then we'll go through our boards.
SPEAKER_04Yep. So I have a beverage to round it out, and this was actually my number two ranked beverage. So very happy to get it here. Sean, I was thinking the same line as you. This is not an alcoholic beverage. Yeah, I'm going iced tea. Yep. I had iced tea slightly above lemonade. Nice cold glass of iced tea, throw in a couple ice cubes, and there's nothing better in the summer than a nice cold glass of iced tea. It could be Arizona, Lipton, whatever you want, but uh, I love me some ice tea.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm I was right there with you. Each time it came back, I kept debating taking iced tea or lemonade, but I couldn't decide between the two. So I my strategy inevitably just turned to, well, I'm just gonna wait and take whatever one he doesn't. But then it got to the point where I had to pull the trigger. And I just prefer lemonade, but I almost prefer them both together. I think that like you, little Arnold Palmer action, there's there's nothing wrong with combining forces and us two linking up and creating a mega drink as well.
SPEAKER_02Nope, nope, no partnerships. You got lemonade, Blum got ice tank.
SPEAKER_05No, that's a great, great, great last round pick. I think Blum, you knocked out of the park. You win a little salad heavy in the middle, and that might come back to bite you, but that's just a personal I hate potato salad. Fruit salad's great, but I think Blum's board is really strong.
SPEAKER_00Blum, do you prefer sweet or unsweet? And then if you're unsweet, are you putting anything in there? What's the what's the move?
SPEAKER_04Brink sweet all the way.
SPEAKER_00Sweet way, sweet as pie blum. I like in the summertime, a little hack to brew your own. You go a little mint iced tea. If you get some mint, like either in the garden or from the store, you brew it with some tea, make some like mint tea. That's my favorite summer play.
SPEAKER_05Now that's a refined palate. That's a guy who doesn't do it.
SPEAKER_02Note ignored. Noted noted observation there, Ryan. We ain't growing much mint in the city of Philadelphia, but other places, I'll take note and I'll remember that.
SPEAKER_00That does sound like a little pot on your roof, Jared.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You could you could yeah, the cracks, the sidewalk cracks.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So let's go by category and just kind of throw out some honorable mentions we had. We'll start with entree. I was deciding between brisket, pulled pork, bratwursts, and then barbecue. Yeah, were my those are my kind of heavy hitters left for entrees.
SPEAKER_00What was what was the last one you said? Barbecue chicken. Yeah, that's a good one, too. Brisket, brisket to me, leans more in like the warm in the cold weather kind of vibe. So I'm glad you went and pulled pork. That's what I mean. I decided the same thing. Feels a little bit like heavier, like uh, yeah. I'm surprised no one honestly, I thought steak was gonna be up there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. If I if I was grilling for myself in the summer, that's like one one. But for a cookout, it gets a little price. I'm not giving I'm not paying, I'm not paying for a steak for my 12-year-old cousin.
SPEAKER_02I wasn't I wasn't in your tax bracket for steaks, Ryan. So that's like like that is that probably is a very good one for sure. So yeah, I like that idea.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the only other two I had, um, like a grilled chicken sandwich with full slaw. Yep, me too, Bloom. That's a good one. And then going a bit off the uh the beaten path, Kabasi, which is a Polish table. And I like an Italian sausage hot dog variant. Uh, we've had that a few times, and that's pretty good as well.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, boom. I come from like the Polish capital of Pennsylvania. It's like 70% of the people in my area are Polish, so kibasi's a fixture all around. So that's a good shout. I forgot about that. What about for side dishes?
SPEAKER_02I'll I'll just add for uh entrees. I also had just like grilled chicken, like buffalo chicken sandwiches kind of stuff. And I also had what else did I have? Do you have a lift or do you not have a lift? It's it's all the head. I had uh I had chicken wings too, not really traditional necessarily, but I've seen, you know, I've seen them. I didn't I didn't draft them, but like I've seen chicken wings at these at these cookouts a good bit. Like a grilled chicken wing with barbecue sauce, yeah. Like I'm into that. Yes, yes, that's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, some people we smoke wings on the smoker sometimes too. That is good for sides. I thought there was a I I kind of regret what I did with sides because so many of my favorites didn't even get drafted. But yeah, your sides stink. My sides are the best here, but I I took uh two, I took mac and cheese and baked beans, but I love grilled asparagus. That might be my favorite summer food. Oh, that's a grilled asparagus is phenomenal. And then I also love a pasta salad with an Italian dressing, the the cheese, the little pepperoni, the noodle. I think that's that's a nice summery dish as well.
SPEAKER_00That's the one that I was uh I was hinting at when you took mac and cheese. Like that's what I thought of as the more traditional, kind of like summery side. I don't like it, but that to me is more like summer. Um I figured someone was gonna take it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it it's a staple. I didn't know how the voters would uh respond. I didn't know how some of you would respond because of your palettes and your opinions, but uh yeah, I mean I'm I'm with you there.
SPEAKER_00I think that's no, they'll definitely they'll definitely like baked potato better.
SPEAKER_02I I love a good baked potato, a little butter, a little cheese, little chives, knocked out of the park with Thanksgiving draft.
SPEAKER_05You killed it.
SPEAKER_02Now that that's the most American holiday ever. Now you're chirping Thanksgiving, great. Fourth of July might be slightly more American, but possibly.
SPEAKER_00Possibly. Sides. I mean Coleslav for sure is in the mix there. Water, like I said, watermelon was the one I I debated watermelon the whole way. Um I'm honestly surprised.
SPEAKER_02It I'm fine with Blum taking the fruits, like that's a great pick, but like not being able to just solely take watermelon, interesting for this strap, but like, yeah, I mean that was that was for sure on my list, just alone. I just had a macaroni salad as well.
SPEAKER_05Yep, that's the other one that has it's mayo-based, so it's not for me, but it would it's definitely has a seat at the table in the in the cookout. Yeah, okay. For beverages, I had just kind of like the vodka mixed drinks. I had seltzers written down, yeah. Pinot Grigio, a Sauvignon Blanc, if you wanted to go wine, those are nice and light. I I like both of those, but I I felt like lemonade would play a little better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, in hindsight, I maybe want a little too specific.
SPEAKER_05Certainly pigeonhold yourself just a bit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The real ones are gonna know, and then everyone else is just gonna be like, what the hell is this?
SPEAKER_02I had uh I had an orange crush. I thought that was very specific, so I didn't go down road, but that's very tasty. I also had, I mean, call it boring, a nice cold ice bottle of water. Like I I I didn't want to draft it, but like that that holds a special spot, I think, for all of us. That was on my list, Jer. Yeah, sure. That that's uh goes without saying. I didn't know how it would play. I thought it was I thought it was good, but it's like I don't want to be that guy, but yeah, listen. I should put on the graphic complimentary water.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, everyone gets it on their board. I was thinking more kind of like uh mixed, like summary mixed drinks like daiquiri, pina colada, margarita, stuff like that, kind of that refreshing summer mixed drink, Bob.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we probably could have done a alcoholic and non-alcoholic category for drinks, to be honest, if we wanted to. Might have been a missed by me as a commissioner. In in the way of desserts, did anybody else have anything? The only couple I had written down, I had pineapple slash watermelon, as maybe I would try to get that as dessert if I took them as sides, whatever. I also had that American flag cake. You ever see that? It's like strawberries and blueberries. I don't know what it's called, but that's like a 4th of July staple. I've never even had a piece of it, but it's just always there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So the one that I had that's kind of like a deep cut is like that giant cookie that's just like in the cake with like little icing like around it. Oh, cookie cake, yeah. Yeah, cookie cake. Like that's yeah, that was probably considerable to get drafted by me if the others didn't go.
SPEAKER_00I thought Blum, I thought you were gonna go like water ice. I was surprised. That kind of vibe. Yeah. That would be. When you said popsicle, I was surprised. I thought you were that was the route you were going. Me too.
SPEAKER_05I and also I thought the rocket pops were the best popsicle. I would have just taken rocket pops specifically. Just the red lines up here. I think that that has some power.
SPEAKER_00I had uh I've been living in the south. I had banana pudding and peach cobbler. Those are two big southern kind of summer desserts.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say like apple pie too. It's I don't know if it's like a staple, but like you can't go wrong with these kind of events. It wouldn't be like my choice, but like I would get like I'm not I'm never upset.
SPEAKER_05No, for sure. That's my it might be my favorite dessert, apple pie with vanilla ice cream, but yeah, again, I I just never had have had it at a cookout, but it's it's phenomenal whenever you get it. I also, Ryan, had peach blueberry cobbler. That's just right there. Those two are special, special desserts. And then activity, the one the big one I thought that didn't get drafted was swimming. Gotta have a pool.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't sure philosophically where we were on that. Like I was gonna say like lounging by the pool, swimming, but like we had kind of established the pool thing in the beginning. Like, I thought it was kind of ambiguous. I I really like was gonna ask the question, then just went wiffle ball, but I wasn't sure if that was like on the table.
SPEAKER_04So I thought it was two activities right away. One was cornhole, and one was never mentioned, and that was horseshoes.
SPEAKER_05That was on my board too. Yep. If I didn't get play catchblum, I was going to do horseshoes. Because I grew up playing horseshoes before actually I started playing cornhole. I feel like cornhole kind of kicked on when we were already in high school around there, is where I would say it got really popular again. And horseshoes was what I would had always played before that. But now Cornhole has completely taken that over.
SPEAKER_00Handjam's a fun one sometimes. Oh, great game.
SPEAKER_02Badminton. Don't like yeah, Badminton's a good one too. Like yeah, it's it's Lokia, it's a it's a great time. Volleyball, too. Yeah, you got enough.
SPEAKER_03Great one.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02If you have the setup, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'd bonfire when it gets dark.
SPEAKER_05I had that too. I had a big campfire, but Jeremy scared me off of it with his humidity take.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're gonna you're gonna cook with both of those, but uh yeah.
SPEAKER_00You can roast your baked potatoes on the bonfire. True.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_05Alright, so why don't we quickly run through our boards? We could go in draft order if that works for you guys. I have mine ready. I believe. I know Blum's a great podcaster, so he'll have his prepared. So Bom, kick us off.
SPEAKER_04Yep, so my uh first pick one was a cornhole. Like I said, one activity, one for all groups and ages. Uh entree will be a hot dog. My two sides I took uh was fruit salad and a potato salad. My dessert is a popsicle and uh rounding it out with a nice cold glass of iced tea.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that is my I would sign right up for all those bumps. Except for the potato salad, I could leave that, but that that's a good that's a good list you have there. I uh took ice cream as my dessert. One of my sides was mac and cheese, and my other side was baked beans. My activity was to have a catch. My uh beverage was a lemonade, an ice cold lemonade, mind you. And then my entree was a pulled pork. It I my entree was pulled pork, it could be a pooled pork sandwich, it could just be pulled pork with a fork, whatever you prefer. But that's that's where I went. Jeremy, what do you have?
SPEAKER_02I have beer as my bev, ribs, entree, plastic cup games. We got beer pong, we got flip cup, we got beer ball, a classic. I'm adding that now. For my sides, for my sides, I have a baked potato. Oh my god, so good. I have cornbread as my second side, and for my dessert, I have the Pillsbury cookies with the like pictures on top. The sugar cookie Johns are so good. That's a great capture. Thank you, Bob. And you're on the graphic for sure. Thank you. That's all we asked for. We just want we just want to play ball, we want to play ball fairly. So vote. Voters turn out.
SPEAKER_00And for me, I went corn on macabre one, cheeseburger two. I went s'mores on the campfire, potato chips with French onion dip, with a nice refreshing Hugo spritz playing some wiffle ball interspersed.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Hey, listen, I think everybody did well. I we we we chirp a little bit here and there, but all in all, I think we'd be happy to do a cookout with any of these activities in any of these foods. I agree.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if Sean should get ice though. Like, he got lemonade. Now he wants ice too. It's an ice cold lemonade. Yeah, well, he said lemonade to start off. Now it's ice cold.
SPEAKER_05Freshly squeezed, too, I might add to the graphic.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, unbelievable. Actually, sweet lukewarm lemonade.
SPEAKER_05Homemade, homemade, just like my mac and cheese. Actually, not stuff trash. Not a sponsor for exactly not a sponsor. Uh boys, thank you for joining me. I appreciate it. Any any parting thoughts?
SPEAKER_04On um, hopefully we get some good weather. I know last week was a complete wash for those of the northeast, so uh we got the sun out and uh enjoy some of these uh great things we drafted.
SPEAKER_00I'm excited for my first summer where it's not gonna be a hundred plus every single day for four months. I'm back on the east coast, back in a more moderate climate. Excited to actually enjoy summer for the first time in seven years. Love that.
SPEAKER_02And Jeremy, will you be making it to your first cookout? Yeah, that's the plan. We just want to we want to get the experience. Listen, another draft that I win. I'm happy. I love my team. I can't go and ask for anything better. Chalk it up in the windboard. Uh it's great, great to draft with you boys.
