SPEAKER_00If you're new here, this is how this works. I'm gonna read Anthony here, a fictional horror story about some goblin, ghost, ghoul, cryptid, extraterrestrial, paranormal entity, monster-esque thing, um, where I've redacted the names of the creature from the story, and replaced it with descriptions. Um, then Anthony gets to guess to what we're talking about this week. Um, after that, we'll look at its history, its use in pop culture, if any, uh, a little what would you do, choose your own sort scenario, and our finally our monster movie maker moment where us two chuckle fucks will come together and make a movie idea.
SPEAKER_02Or two. Oh yeah, yeah. Absolutely. Uh, just gonna go ahead and take this quick second to say uh go ahead, leave a like, go ahead and subscribe, hit that bell for any notification, as well as go ahead and follow us on our TikTok, Instagram, and we have a link in the description below if you would like to just have the audio version on Buzz Sprout. We have a link in the description below. Our Patreon, dollar only, get uncut, unedited uh version of the podcast a day early, as well as having all our mess ups, arguments, uh technical difficulties, all that. All the swear words for free. Uh I suppose for a dollar. For for just a dollar. So and uh I believe that's everything, you know. You sure? Yeah, as far as I know.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Absolutely. So, Anthony here gets three yes or no questions, and then a shot in the dark guest to try to figure out what we're talking about before I tell him the story. Now, for season zero, we were all over the place. I was just throwing darts at a glow, whatever sounded cool, we just kind of went with. For season one, we've kind of stuck to North America. And we've also figured out where the equator was. And how many countries are actually in North America? It's a lot. 23. 23. 23. Mm-hmm. Didn't Miley Cyrus do a song about 23?
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_00I thought there was a Miley Cyrus song or 22. 23? Yeah. Or maybe she was like wearing. No, maybe she was wearing and then maybe she was wearing like a maybe she was wearing a jersey with the number 23 on it. I don't know. I don't know. We didn't we went down the rabbit hole of just complete derail this podcast right off the rip.
SPEAKER_01Um, ghost and ghouls podcast.
SPEAKER_00Well, this is well this was this is now because like pop culture, look, I watch so much stuff related to hauntings and paranormal activities and different creatures and ice. A lot of conspiracy theories around that. Oh yeah, conspiracy theories, like I'm I'm down rabbit holes, man. So it's like you you get to a point where like like the music just doesn't happen. Yeah. And me and me and me and me and my wife went and saw the the the Lion King the musical. Okay. It was fantastic. We had a lot of fun. But on our way back, our friends that we went with, um, we went down um Ice Spice. Ice We went down Doja Cat. Okay. We went down um I'm just listening to songs. Yeah, there was a song called Pinky Up by somebody I did not know. Okay. And like I did not know. I mean, I I don't I don't know. I like I, you know, and I've heard the term Doja Cat, but I thought it was like an animating like YouTuber.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00That just sound Doja Cat sounds like some skinny twink sitting in a basement drawing furries.
SPEAKER_02Anywho, I'll be wrong. I was gonna mention that I actually forgot on the last episode. I forgot to mention that there was actually a conspiracy theory about Bigfoot, and I didn't know if you knew about it. Oh, hit me. That they were saying that he actually teleports in each uh national park. That's why they're sanctioned. Oh, like there's teleport gates? Yeah, and he that's how he gets around, and that's why there's so many uh appearances of Bigfoot. Uh that's just one conspiracy that I saw. I don't know why I didn't bring it up.
SPEAKER_00I kinda like that.
SPEAKER_02But so as for the guesses, I'm gonna just go ahead and assume that we're we're in America. I'm not gonna keep it anywhere crazy. Uh I'm just gonna go with my normal first one. Is this native Native American origin? Oh my lord. Hold on. I'm going to say no.
SPEAKER_00It is not verified.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I'm I'm gonna- I'm just gonna go ahead and right now and say that this creature is very, very off the rails. Like something that should not be mainstream, so I'm gonna go ahead. Let's go with my second favorite one now. Uh, does its name dictate what it is or what it does?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Very much so.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01This is Oh, what does it even mean?
SPEAKER_02The Mason's the numbers. Okay. Is this thing Is this I hate I don't even know how to narrow this down. You said no to native origin or not confirmed.
SPEAKER_00Not yeah, it is it is not confirmed.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Is this thing Is this created? Does it does this have any type of uh is this a spirit? Is this a spirit of any type? Like demonic spirit, g you know, uh just a spirit, ghost, whatever, you know what I'm saying? Like is it uh ethereal? Oh is that is that the right word? Ethereal? Yeah. Is this thing both? This is some both? No, no. Because I feel like now this thing is something that represents a mythology of something some sort.
SPEAKER_00There is something spiritual about this. My take on it is something different. Your take on it is different. Like what I think this thing might be is something way different.
SPEAKER_02Okay, your usually your things on it is is mostly witchcraft. Like, either witchcraft or demonic rituals. Unless you, you know. Nah, not not not for this one. Not for this one. This this one's a little out there. Okay, either way, this thing could also be from cannibalistic. Because a lot of the a lot of the creatures that you've pulled out have always been from uh derived from uh uh cannibalistic creatures.
SPEAKER_00There's there's not a lot of them, a lot of them come from cannibalism.
SPEAKER_02Listen, I'm just gonna go ahead and say, I don't know what this thing is. I'll just put it out there. It's not a windigo because we're not doing that yet, so I can I'm safe. I'm safe. So I'm gonna go ahead and say we're just gonna go with the second classic, a chupacabra?
SPEAKER_00Nope.
SPEAKER_02Okay. That one could be spiritual too. That one could be spiritual. Could be, but you ready for this? Yeah, I'm gonna be really mad if it is a windigo.
SPEAKER_00It's not. Alright, this one this story is called Silhouettes at Twilight. Daniel didn't mean to do it. At least that's what he told himself. The deer had been standing in the middle of the road, frozen in his headlights, thin legs trembling, eyes wide and glassy, and for a moment everything slowed down. He could have braked, he had time, but instead he smiled, not out of cruelty, not exactly, it was something else. An impulse, sharp and sudden, like a thought that didn't belong to him, and his foot pressed harder on the gas. The impact was sickening. A dull, heavy thud, followed by a crunch of bone against metal. The car jolted, and for a second Daniel thought the windshield might shatter from the force. Then silence. He kept driving. His hands trembled on the wheel, but he didn't slow down. He didn't even look back. The ocean roared somewhere below the cliffs, the sound rising as if in protest. I I I couldn't stop, he muttered to himself, though he know that what he knew that wasn't true. A mile passed, then another. Then he saw them. They stood on the ridge above the road, tall, impossibly thin shapes against the night sky. At first glance, they might have even been people, but something was wrong with their portions. Their limbs stretched too long, their torso way too narrow, their edges wavered, as if they weren't fully part of this world. Daniel flowed despite himself. The figures didn't move, they didn't react to the car, the headlights, or the noise. They simply faced the road. A chill crawled up his spine. What the hell? As a headlight swept across one of them, the beam should have revealed detail, fabric, skin, anything. But instead, the light seemed to dull, swallowed into a deeper darkness. The shape remained featureless, watching. Daniel's grip tightened. He pressed the gas again, and the engine whined as the car searched forward. But in the rearview mirror, the figures shrank into the distance. But there were more of them now. He was sure of it. The smell hit him first, rot to death. It clung to the front of his car when he finally stopped at a gas station miles away. Under the harsh fluorescent lights, Daniel stepped out and forced himself to look. The deer was gone. No blood, no fur, no sign of impact, except for a shallow dent in the hood. That that's not possible. His stomach twisted. He checked the road behind him, empty and silent. For a moment, he thought he saw something standing far off near the edge of the lot, tall and thin. But when he blinked it was gone. That night he dreamed of the deer. Not as it has been, but something stretched and wrong. Its legs long and bending at angles they shouldn't, its body thin, elongated, its head tilted unnaturally. And behind it on a distant ridge, the same tall shape stood in a line, watching. When he woke, he felt his room felt crowded. Not physically, there was nothing there, but the air had weight, like too many eyes looking at him. He started noticing them everywhere after that, at first only at a distance. A shape on a hill when he drove to work, a silhouette at the far end of a field, always tall, always thin, always still. If he looked directly at them for too long, something felt wrong in his chest, like his heart was skipping beats to match a rhythm he couldn't hear. It never came closer until it happened gradually. One evening he saw one standing at the edge of the woods behind his house, far enough that he could pretend it was a trick of the light. The next night it was closer. Not walking, never walking, just nearer. As if the distance didn't apply to it in the same way. Daniel stopped going outside after dark. He kept the curtains drawn, the lights on, he told himself that ignoring them would make them go away. But the feeling of being watched only grew stronger. Then came the sounds. Soft tapping against the walls at night. Not loud or urgent, just there, like fingers testing the boundaries of his home, always patient. One night the power went out. No warning, no storm, just darkness. Daniel sat frozen in his bed and with every muscle locked. The silence felt thicker than it should have been, pressing in on him from all sides. Then came the sound, a gentle tap from the window. He swallowed hard. No. Another tap, slightly louder, then another. Soon it spread, multiple points along the walls, the windows, the doors, a quiet, steady drumming, as if something outside were mapping the shape of his house. Mapping him. They can't come in, he whispered. They can't. The tapping stopped. The silence that followed was worse. Then something shifted against the window. The curtain pulled inward slightly, stretching as though something long and narrow leaned against it from the outside. And Daniel couldn't breathe. A voice came next. Soft, thin, and wrong. Not from one place, but from all around him at once. You changed it. His throat tightened. What? The shape. The voice continued, uneven and stretched, like it had been forced to search for each word into existence. You broke it. That deer. Daniel's chest heaved. It it was an accident. No. The word cut through him. No accidents. The curtain bulged further inwards. A long outline pressed against the fabric. Head tilted as if studying him through the barrier. You saw, the voice whispered. Another shape pressed against a different window. And now it continued. We see you. Daniel stumbled back, shaking his head. Go away. Just go away. The pressure vanished. The curtains fell still. Silence. For a brief fragile moment, relief crept in. Then he noticed the mirror across the room. Something stood behind him. Tall, thin, and featureless. Inside. It hadn't come through the door. It hadn't broken the window. It simply existed there now. Watching. Its head tilted, mimicking a gesture it didn't understand. And Daniel realized too late what he had done on that road. He hadn't just killed something. He had broken a rule he did not know existed. And whatever watched from the edges of the world had finally noticed him. So he killed he he purposely killed a deer.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Okay. This is sounding like a like a guardian. Like a like a forest. Like nature's guardians and something like that.
SPEAKER_00I found some readings that said that these things are some kind of guardian, could are equated to being some kind of guardian of Forest.
SPEAKER_02Forest, nature, you know, but you're saying forest. I'm gonna go ahead and throw out a name like the Forest Watchers. Ooh, you're close. Really? You're very close. Dang, that's crazy. That's it? That's all I can give. Yeah, I don't really.
SPEAKER_00These are called the Dark Watchers.
SPEAKER_02Oh I got hung up on forest.
SPEAKER_00Yep. I got hung up on forest. It's all good. I'll give you this one.
SPEAKER_02No, that was a counter of.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so early origins, possibly pre-colonial, but uncertain. This is the hard part. Many modern retellings claim the legend go back to Native American groups like the Chumash who lived along California's central coast. Some say shadowy figures appear in oral traditions. However, historians note there is no clear verified record of identic of identical beings in traditional Chumash mythology. So I actually looked into their a little bit into the Chumash like um what I could find. There's not uh a thing about these. Um like multiple. Okay. So while the idea might feel ancient, the exact form of the legend is likely not full fully indigenous in origin. So the Dark Watchers, what are they? They are these creatures that show up in central California's coastline along hiking trails, ridges, and mountains, and you will just happen to look up, and there is a silhouette of a person on top of the ridge just looking back at you. And you'll do like a and it'll be gone.
SPEAKER_02Uh double. Okay. Uh I mean that that's a good thing there's a couple of things that I have with this. It's like, okay, that's just your brain playing tricks of like seeing, oh, I thought I saw a silhouette, blah blah blah blah, the light, the forest, the trees make it look silhouette. Yeah that. Okay. That or it was a case of uh schizophrenia, you know what I'm saying? Okay. I I could see this being a case and they didn't know how to diagnose uh you know.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know. But here's the here's the other thing, too, okay? Okay. Um the first solid historical accounts come from Spanish settlers exploring and colonizing California in the 1700s. They reported seeing tall human-like silhouettes on distant ridges. They call them Los Vigilantes Oscuros, literally the Dark Watchers. These figures were always described in the same way, seen at dawn or dusk, standing motionless on high peaks, disappearing if approached, and this is kind of where the core of this kind of really kind of takes hold. Okay. As more settlers traveled and moved through the region, sightings continued. By the late 1800s and early 1900s, the figures had become regional legends. So now we're talking about we've been seeing these things for a hundred, two hundred years. Okay. Hikers and locals report seeing them along ridgelines. Descriptions will stay consistent, tall, thin, featureless silhouettes watching from afar. So, in 1930, uh the legend became widely known thanks to uh writers. John Steinbeck referenced them in his short story Flight in 1938. And Robert St. Jefferins also wrote about similar figures in some poetry. Um, Steinbeck's version added some important detail. You're supposed to ignore them and they won't bother you. And that idea be kind of became be part of the myth.
SPEAKER_02So, because there's there's uh I forgot what it was. There was like a saying that you can see something like usually on the corner of your eye, like in your peripherals, that you see it, and then the butt when you try to look at it, it's gone.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right? And then I'm thinking of something like that. But again, I I s I still you could still say a trick of the light, and then uh passes down, and people are like, Oh, I saw I saw one. I could believe, like I heard the story, you know, let's look at the ridge, and then your mind starts playing tricks.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00So, but this is this is where where it kind of gets me, okay? So reports didn't stop with literature. People continued claiming sightings throughout the 1900s, and a well-known case um in the 1960s involved a hiker who saw a figure on a rock. Um, according to a newspaper archives in the mid-1960s, a Monterey Peninsula local and former high school principal went on a hiking trip to the Santa Lucas or on a hiking trip in uh Santa Lucas when he s suddenly spotted a dark figure standing on a rock and surveying the area. When the principal called out for the other hikers, it vanished. So reportedly he's looking at it. Hey, it's up here! Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I don't know what it is, but it it's it could also be like, okay, you know when you're like laying down in the room and then you're looking at your door, and then it's like there's someone right there, but then you actually turn on the lights and it's like just your your coat or it was your chair or something. It's like it looks perfectly like a like a person, yeah. Kind of like now, again, with these stories, they're all at daylight, which is kind of like Dusk or dawn. Or dusk or dawn. So it could, but since there's a lot on them, I'm I'm kind of like, okay, I'm not discrediting them whatsoever. I'm I'm just trying to bring out some logical behind it.
SPEAKER_00So today most scientists and skeptics think the phenomena has natural causes, such as optical illusions, especially something called the Brocken Spectre, where your shadow is projected onto fog appearing huge and distorted. Effects of fog, low angle sunlight, isolation and fatigue. These are explanations, but don't fully account as to why so many people have described it the same thing for centuries.
SPEAKER_02Unless there is a a logical thing, but no one can actually put a name or why it does it. You know what I'm saying? What the nature does because it's the same thing as uh when you see mirages in the desert or when you can see a city above the sky, there's actually it's reflecting an actual city.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Which is insane.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But um But in the but this is the thing, they're it's always consistent, they appear far away, never close. They stand on ridges or peaks, they're tall and thin and featureless. They watch but don't interact, and if you try to approach them, they go away. It has to do with something with dusk or dawn. Like that's the that's the key factor. So, and this this is kind of the other thing, too. A lot of people that I kind of went and like looked at like the accounts of oh blah, oh this, nobody ever felt fear. It was never like, oh, like it felt like they were seeing something they shouldn't have.
SPEAKER_02You get what I'm saying? Yeah, because a lot of times when you see like a shadow man or like the shadow man or something like that of that account, you have just dread.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So, and this is kind of going back into the chumash, and this is kind of where I kind of had this story take a little bit because like in the Dark Watchers, they never get close to you, right? But in Chumash lore, in some of their traditions, a lot of it came into some of the uh viewing certain things as protective of nature because like Native Americans were so protective of like kind of like the balance. Like, we only take as much as we need, the land always gives, we give back to the land, that kind of circle. Absolutely, and they kind of viewed this one kind of like dark watcher as the protectors of the force. And you cross that line, you cross that line. You're gonna feel it. Then this, whatever this spirit, spirit entity, whatever this thing is, is gonna come get you, right? So I love the fact that you brought up the Bigfoot thing in terms of like the national parks being gateways and all this kind of stuff. Okay, because as far as I can tell, these things are only in this certain place in Central California. So I'm almost wondering if along that ridgeline, and this is where my my brain went fucking just ham sandwich on this shit, it is a thin veil between this dimension and the next.
SPEAKER_02Well, it could also be uh kind of like kind of like a thin veil to the limbo stage or almost.
SPEAKER_00So or or if you think about like ley line. Yeah, like if you if you think about dimensions and being like we could be living in a dimension, like our dimension, right? If there's like like infinite other dimensions where they're all just little changes, yeah, there might be one where though that mountain range lines up perfectly with the other dimension, and it's the we're seeing the shadows of the people on the other side.
SPEAKER_02I'm just thinking of like a dark soul as like ghost of like other players. Oh yeah. It's just like you just see one get lifted up.
SPEAKER_00Just geeted across the sky. Oh god. But like it's either to me, it's either like the the thin veil between this dimension and the next, right? Okay. It could be spirits that are watching the the the forest. And that's why, and that's kind of the other thing too. I was looking at these things and it's like, I mean, it's what it's like wooded ridge lines. Like, so it's you're up there hiking, but it's rocky in and of itself. But yeah, they it'll just be a like a what looks like a dude standing on top of a ridge. But if you take into account how far away they are and how tall, like they're impossibly tall.
SPEAKER_02Ah dude, I can see these things being like a protector of like a parallel universe, like like, oh, we're we're gonna like keep the like this is the gateway to this other universe.
SPEAKER_00Or if it's a crash-landed alien ship and they're just like surrounding it.
SPEAKER_02Why is it always going back to aliens?
SPEAKER_00I'm because alien freak me the fuck out. Could you imagine getting taken and finger fucked by an alien? Why is that your first thought? Because that's what they do. That's not what they do. They probably don't do that stuff.
SPEAKER_02There there is a pervert alien up there, and he's just like they are probably the most meek and mildest like people you could probably do.
SPEAKER_00His finger's like this long.
SPEAKER_02He's trying to touch your tonsils through your ass. They probably, you know, like we're like, we're gonna move on from this conversation of extraterrestrials, and we're gonna go back to the Dark Watchers.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, they could be aliens. They could be-I don't think these things are aliens. I hate to say there could be like a hellgate in California, right? And it could just be like demons that are just like, hey, don't get close, and then just if you get close, then maybe they do just California is the spawn of a lot of evil.
SPEAKER_02I'm not gonna lie. That is a I wouldn't be surprised. Yeah, we've all read the Epstein files.
SPEAKER_00Even before then. The Diddy files. Even before then. Yeah. But that that the the thing that kind of stood out to me is that you have through like 17, 18, 19s, and even into the 2000s. You have you were in century four of people seeing these damn things.
SPEAKER_02I'm getting almost a sense of like Lorax kind of vibes.
SPEAKER_00You know? We are the watchers. We speak for the trees.
SPEAKER_02It's just like in a in a more like Dark Souls grim kind of way. It's like these are the these are literally the abyss walkers, but just like for the forest.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You fuck you cut that tree.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We're cutting you. Yeah. You you have that moment of like, oh, I'm gonna smoke this deer. We're finding you. Yeah. No, I like the idea of of them actually being like spirits that are tied to the land that are there to protect some kind of sacred something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I can definitely see it from native origins, like, oh, okay, we take what we need, yeah, but never like extra or whatever. You know, we cut down enough trees for whatever we need, yeah, and then we regrow it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So, pop culture. Okay. Uh, the Why Files, uh TV episode released in 2022. Series explored urban legends of the Dark Watchers, delving into the history of silent observers of the Big Sur Wilderness. Um, of course, there's been a couple localized documentary style found footage products on YouTube. Like, just go Google the Dark Watchers and just look up. Um, there was one movie. Dark Watchers, the Woman in Black from 2012. I did not watch this. Um, the indie sci-fi thriller throws or follows three women hunting UFOs in a coastal village who fall under the gaze of the men in black, a modern interpretation of the Dark Watchers. Um, it's available on TV. Yeah. I read the synopsis and I was like, this is not like I don't really like Yeah, okay. They're the Men in Black.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't really like alien movies that much.
SPEAKER_00Like Did you ever watch Signs?
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, that was the original. That was what uh Scary Movie had uh made a parody of. Scary movies.
SPEAKER_00You watch Scary Movie before you watch Science, though.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. See, Signs came out. I I remember when Signs came out and I was a kid, and that movie freaked me the fuck out. Yeah. Like flat the fuck out. Fucked me up. Yeah, but that's about all it is in pop culture. There's not much. Y'all need to make some more. Hollywood, Bollywood, Bollywood. I would love an Indian retailing. Have you seen like the Bollywood clips? Like the Indian Hollywood? Yeah. Let's get a let's get a uh an Indian Hollywood. No, we need to make our own. So, um, scenario-wise, this one was tough. This one get close.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, this seems like very okay, as long as I don't mess with you. 100%. As long as I was good.
SPEAKER_00I think I'm good. It's kind of the the the rule of camping, like primitive camping, like the hike through that we did. Take everything with you. Okay. What you bring in, you bring out, don't fuck with the land, you're good to go. Okay. So, my question to you though, for this. Okay. You're out there, big sir, it's fucking beautiful. The sunset is setting. You see. We'll say you see three of them. Okay. Right? You're like, holy fuck.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Okay. I'm alone, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'd say even a group.
SPEAKER_00You're you're you're in a small group, it's you and three friends. Okay. You all see them. You're like, holy shit, it's the watchers. Oh man, that's crazy, right? And you're like, guys, I know the lord. Don't fuck with anything, don't mess with everything. Clean up everything. We're gonna clean up all our, you know, if we have any trash, we're gonna take it with us. If we have like, you know, blah, blah, blah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The next morning, right? You go to sleep for the night. The next morning, you wake up, right? Okay. Dawn, they're there. But they're a little bit closer this time. What would you do?
SPEAKER_02Alright, uh, I would immediately be like, no, we've overstayed. They're getting closer. I don't care. We're out. Let's clean up. Let's go. And before we enter that vehicle, we turn around and we will say our peace, our sorry. Please have a good night. Nomista. Good day. Nom mistay. You know. But okay. We're leaving. If I need to get off my knees and beg, I will.
SPEAKER_00Could you imagine that happening, though? Like, you see three like seven to nine foot tall silhouettes.
SPEAKER_02If I have the lore behind it, I'm definitely like, I'm putting my head to the ground. I'm bowing, deep bow, and I am like, I apologize. I overshadowing kissing the dirt. I don't care. Like, I am French kissing that ground. Okay? There's no shot that I'm gonna wake up to like a nine foot tall, shadowed dark watcher in my room because what would you do if you woke up?
SPEAKER_00Like you woke up in the middle of the night, right? Let's say full moon. Like full moon. It's bright as shit outside. Yeah. Say you got one like really kind of trashy friend that's just like throwing shit everywhere, and you're like telling him, like, bro, pick up. Oh, I'm fine. Pick up. No, no, like you go to bed, right? And you hear something, like you hear him stirring, right? And so you like take a peek, and one of those things, like, is like over his fucking tent. Like, are you just letting your boy go or are you just like how tall are we talking? Oh, it's like seven foot tall over his tent, but it's like hinging down, like slowly.
SPEAKER_02So so this this is this is my like tent, right? I'll have it, I have it like both of those things are right here, and I have it down, right?
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_02I I'm sorry. Like I told you multiple times. Clean up after yourself. There's there's there's a reason why we say it. And you you didn't do it, and now you die. There's consequences. There's consequences. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00Don't litter with Anthony, he will kill you. I'm not gonna kill you, no.
SPEAKER_02But if I see the seven-foot-tall, shadowed like a little bit. Anthony, what it was you threw a can out of your car. If I see a shadowed, like I don't even think a demon. You wouldn't, you wouldn't say shadowed demon. You should get Dark Watcher tattooed across your girl. Dark Watcher. But like if we see a seven-foot-tall, if we're talking like seven to nine foot tall shadow guardian, like Well, that's the thing though.
SPEAKER_00It's featureless, so it just looks like a big shadow. But you can just make out a form that's just like hinging over.
SPEAKER_02It's like, hey, you need help? I'll help him. Like, I'm gonna help you. Right?
SPEAKER_00Like, I'm just running over and beating this shit out of your friend with it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm unzipping the thing and I'm dragging him out, and I'm just like, There you go.
SPEAKER_00Like, let's go. Take this trashy motherfucker. That's fucked.
SPEAKER_02But nah, because if you but if it's like one of those like team effort kind of deal, oh I'm gonna be pissed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm killing him, and then I'm letting this thing strangle me. Yeah. Right? Because it's like I have to deal with the consequences too because of your mistake. Are you serious?
SPEAKER_00This just made me think of a really, really, really interesting concept for our monster movie maker.
SPEAKER_02I have I have one too, but like, but like that would be the dumbest thing ever, right? You you just sit there, you you you two of you are following.
SPEAKER_00What if what if what if your friend is like the super skeptical though? Oh, it's nothing. It's nothing. You're just looking at a fucking tree, dumbass. Like, just just like motherfucker's got arms and a fucking head. Like, I know what I'm looking at.
SPEAKER_02We're we're throwing hands. Like, I'm gonna sit there, I'm like, listen, we're we're fighting. I don't care. Like, whether you win or lose, but we're fighting. I'm letting this thing know that we are no longer allies. That's all you need to know. Spiritually, I do not mess around. If there is something out there that is like.
SPEAKER_00Did you ever see? Nope. Oh my god, what was the name of that movie where they went to the catacombs under France?
SPEAKER_02I know exactly what movie you're talking about. Was it As Above So Below? I don't know the name, but I know I I know exactly what you were talking about, but that is too scary, and I did not watch it. I saw a lot of either the clips or the trailer, and I was like, haha.
SPEAKER_00What do you mean you haven't watched As Above So Below? I'm good. Okay. Did you see the clip where the guy gets pulled into the car? Maybe. Uh I'll say no. So the clip, the guy gets pulled into a burning car, and it gets sucked into the ground and then into a thing of smoke. And I'm pretty sure it's his feet. Like his feet are like stuck in the dirt. Like stuck up. Right? And all I can think of is like this happening to somebody, right? The watcher touches you. Like you not even expecting it to happen, and then all of a sudden you just like and just like into the ground, into the dirt, and you suffocate there. Like lungs full of dirt. Just it has that power to just push you into or they just make you a uh a tree. Yeah. I don't even think they they they would probably have the good ones become trees after they pass away. No, the bad ones. I'm talking about like the bad one, like you're forever a tree. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Listen, hear me out. They make you go into the dirt, right? You suffocate there and die. No, yeah. And then a good person who liked the forest, they take their energy and they make them into trees, and the they literally just sit on top of you for for eternity. Like your corpse is just there getting eaten by this tree because you were a shit bag.
SPEAKER_02Listen. There's so many options. It's crazy that like it's not that I would be scared of this thing, but I'm scared that I would have to be dealing with these because of some dumbass.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like, it's it's pissing me off that you That's gonna carry us into our monster movie maker moment. Absolutely. The Dark Watchers. Welcome to the Monster Movie Maker moment, where uh me and Anthony here are gonna make a movie about the Dark Watchers of Big Sir. Um context. Anywho. Alright, you got a movie idea? Because I got one. Uh, I think I do. I think I do. Are you going for like scary scary? Are you going for funny scary?
SPEAKER_02I don't know how it's gonna be scary, uh, but I kind of wanted to do like a trip where like we were just talking about uh multiple people going to a camping trip forest-wise, and I would say that this person the group took them out because they needed to go out.
SPEAKER_00They needed they just like the like the bad breakup or something like that. Bad breakup, whatever. Yeah. Maybe that's what is bad breakup, and he's drinking a lot. So they're like, we gotta get you out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I would say it's just like, oh, I brought my lucky bottle. Like this bottle is like blah, blah, blah, blah. It's like, and throws it. Just throws it, breaks it against a tree, whatever. And they're like, don't do that. That is bad. And they have a let's say a I would say they would have an old Native American friend who's like, oh, my great great grandfather told me stories about the forest. Well, you don't do that, go pick up. It's like, oh, they're never we'll just bury it.
SPEAKER_00It's it's one tree in the woods with a one bottle against it. It'll be okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I would say they go through the trip, and then finally, like on the last day, they notice, or he only he notices it and sees the watch, whatever it is, doesn't think of it. No, whatever. They get in the car, they go back home, right? So this is kind of like I'm getting the idea from believe it or not, from Pirates of the Caribbean. From the first one, Black Pearl, where you take the gold and they became cursed. So it's like the bottle that he had is like because he littered or whatever, these things now go after him, right? And it's like, oh, go clean up like your mistake, right? Because that bottle was like your significance of your life. Like because that bottle was something that he's had all his life. Like it was it was uh, you could say maybe it was uh uh something significant. Maybe it was the like last bottle that you and your brother drank, or something like you know, that tied and his brother had committed suicide or whatever, you know, sad. And something to kind of tie it, yeah, you know, or and it could not even be a bottle, it could be something else.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. If needed. He threw away some sort of something and littered in the forest, and then this is what is and I like the idea of a glass bottle because then he'd have to go get all the pieces.
SPEAKER_02That's what I was trying to say. It's like, oh, he's gonna go get all the pieces of this bottle, and it's in a forest. It's like, do you remember the exact location? It's like, and he tracks down, and it's kind of like, oh, throughout the bottle, it's like uh when they were drinking and everything, he's kind of like having fragments of memories of where it's like was, and now he has to hunt down these things. Like, but in his house, he notices like I love the fact that these things show up in mirrors.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like, this is where it's like they're the bathroom mirror. But it's always like they're hunched over looking at him like this, like kind of like tilted like in the doorway, looking at him. But it's but it no like you see him only in the mirror.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And he that's when he's gonna be able to do it. But he has a dog that reacts to him. Oh, the dog doesn't get near him anymore. The dog growls, the dog's like, yeah, uh, but it's never the dog's never looking at him, it's kind of like looking over his shoulder. Yeah, right? And I would even say like one night, like like he's watching the TV, starts staticing, and then it just like goes out and he sees it through the screen. Uh and it's like Yeah. Um finally he uh I guess he would start calling up everybody. Uh-huh. Trying to figure out like what's happening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I would even say that maybe uh And we could get the the expose from uh from his Native American friend.
SPEAKER_02I want to say that maybe they like because it's like the team effort thing, like you, you know, like, oh, you were with him, you didn't like you didn't even stop him or clean up after the bomb. It's like they go after them, and like the one friend one friend dies, uh-huh. Like car accident because he looked in the mirror.
SPEAKER_00Like oh, he looked in the review mirror and it was there and he jerked the wheel. Like what the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_02No, I would say even like he looks in the mirror, struck it, and then it grabs the wheel and then turns it. It's like that. It's kind of like that. And then finally the Native American friend who's who notices it had came up with rituals of or like kind of like protection charms, and is like actively doing this, is like, listen, I can't leave right now. I am like surrounded.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like the house, I've protected myself with what my grandfather is grandfather. Yeah. It's like they're here though.
SPEAKER_00Whatever you had did, and I'm assuming it was the go fix your shit.
SPEAKER_02You need to go fix it, or else we're done. Like we're we're dead. Because our friend is already dead, blah blah blah. No, it's his mistake, and he needs to go. So that's kind of like where and now he's like, You have until they only show up in dusk and dawn. That's why the one friend died first was because.
SPEAKER_00he gets up early to work and and they got him as he was going to work so it's like you have until dusk you so you have like there's a really fun idea here and I and I love this idea but I I almost want to I almost want to piggyback off the idea of a friend who who's trying to let go of something blah blah blah right like he he's yeah brother unalived himself blah whatever it's the last thing like he had of his brother he's drunk he's pissed he throws it away he's angry he's angry at the world whatever but I want the dark watchers to almost fuck with them right there in the woods and turn them around and they just get lost and lost so they stay in the woods they stay in the woods but every night they have to deal with some sort of sin against the nature humanity something but they've all done it and they're trying to figure out how to like fix it. So if you if you need to watch as above so below but basically what it is is they are going into the catacombs under Paris and it is like the found footage style stuff but it is the people having to face the sins of their like the repercussions of their sins. Yeah so like the guy that got dragged into a car was responsible for a car accident and the person was trapped inside the car burning alive and he did absolutely nothing trying to save them. I got you and they just they they died I've got you so he was like he ex like he didn't he murdered somebody but when he had the chance to help he just flat was like no I'm not I'm not risking my myself to save you and I'm almost wondering if you do that like in the in the scope of just the dark watchers turning them around and making the trail look different and making them walk a different trail and keeping them in the woods and all of a sudden the food starts running out all of a sudden this all of a sudden that was supposed to be a weekend trip. Now we've been out here for seven fucking days you know what I mean like and you could really get like really like some really gritty dark you know as they press in and press in and press in and press it but yeah I do also like them kind of coming back to like their their jobs and like the normal life and then all of a sudden it's like like I could oh my god uh did you watch the short um oh my god I'm pretty sure I said it's more balls you know what I'm talking about right no no no no I I had something else uh the the thing where it's like uh the what was it like the picture of God yeah yeah I watched that yeah okay could you imagine that that's what happens the portrait of God yeah the portrait of God so he's in his car he looks in the review mirror the thing's there and he just can't look away and like gets stuck looking at it and like seizes up and then it's like and then like he just goes into an intersection just gets blasted just oh goodness I even had an alternate side when you kept saying like oh they stay in the woods or whatever and it was like okay instead of a bottle let's say it's like a watch of his brother's or of his father's and he's just like so mad with it and he just chucks it off the bridge.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh right he throwing like a mountainside like hills whatever chucks it off it's gone yeah but like either way what he's done is like I guess uh the significance of throwing a piece of himself away. Yeah yeah anyway and he's just disrespecting the forest as he's there because he's just mad right now I want it to be like oh as they're going through all this stuff as they're getting like tortured through like mine and everything he gets like a pe like a watch right he finds it or whatever and he goes and they they finally like the watchers let them in the car he's in the backseat the other two are in the it's like I can't believe you actually found the watch and they're just driving down it's like I never did find the watch they're like what I I lied and and then next thing you know they're like I guess they I I kind of wanted to be like a mind fuck. Yeah like the watchers make them think they're in the car and they end up in the forest again or either that or they're just driving straight into a tree like there is no road you know what I'm saying? It's kind of like he just didn't want to fix it. Yeah. He he he refused to fix it just to clean it up and it's like no basically damned his three friends because of it. Like I like I'm just done I'm gonna get this and just say I got it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah you could oh my gosh that's that's such a good like that's such a good interpretation of just like the the completely like narcissistic like like selfish friend and maybe it's one of those things like maybe he had a falling out with his brother or his dad or whatever and it was his fault and he literally took the like the and then they passed away he couldn't reconcile he stayed angry the whole time and then he had their last like true belonging and then that's when he was like I'm gonna fucking destroy this thing.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna destroy it in the woods and he hucks it off the the ridge I would even say too is like when they when he's saying that he's in the middle seat they're in the passengers and he's just like no I lied blah blah blah when they look up to the mirror just like what? Yeah and then they see him he's like looking at them with like dark eyes or whatever and then it's like two shadow watchers like dark watchers like hunched yeah like looking at him or whatever either that like oh what was yours so I had a funny idea.
SPEAKER_00Oh god so after the success of your movie um there's four friends that go out in the woods and they're partying and doing XYZ right um and there's the one like super like nerdy friend who's like no don't don't do that we gotta respect we gotta we gotta love you know blah blah blah whatever maybe he's a hippie I don't know and uh they're going back and forth about it going back and forth about it going back and forth about it and uh it's not just the Dark Watchers but it's like every like nature protector thing shows up and just like terrorizes these guys right so like think of like the Lorax yeah but it's like the horror like the like needle teeth under the mustache like like long claws right like and he's just like chewing into one of them they're like oh my god and like they go about like running off through the woods like one of them runs into Bigfoot and he just beats the shit out of him so he's like stumbling through the woods with like a black eye he's like man fuck Bigfoot blah blah blah the dark watchers show up at one night and just like pummel the shit out of them while they're in their tents and sleeping bed Why me and just like they go through all that and then they finally get off the mountain they're like like like slung up arm you know slings on arms splints on legs like oh what just starts peeing on the tree or whatever and then they're like sleeping back and then it's just like a stream is getting up he's like oh oh what the fuck oh it's raining what the hell you have a uh a not ent from Lord of the Rings like just like just like long cocked out oh god my name is Maple Yeah oh my gosh it's like a cracked out fucking ant yeah but I mean like you can do so because there's so much regarded in nature like just have these guys go through like you could almost name it like the hangover right they gotta go back and find their friend and they're finding like all these crazy like things like you know they're looking at pictures like what the hell is that and they go back and like Bigfoot's like I thought I told you not to come back here like just yeah I just had this idea of them just having like the worst fucking night of their lives or like worst camping trip of their lives and it's just like this grim dark shot but it's just all the the the protectors of of the the forest just beat the shit out of these four dudes for like an hour and a half. They finally get back to their car and they're like just beat the fuck up like like I said like like homemade slings out of their t-shirts one of them's got like a wood splint he's locking like he can't bend his knee like all black eyed bloody knocking I couldn't even imagine when they like like dealing with Bigfoot or whatever and they had like push it off the mountain or whatever and it's like broken down but like I can even see them all getting in the car and just it's like alright where the keys at where the keys at and they look in front like they all look ahead and it's Bigfoot just limping. He's just the key yeah no I really like the idea that um I also had uh I feel like it would probably be like a short a short film. Yeah um I can even see the funny part like when you said they want to have like multiple like every like forest or whatever I can even see one of the dudes just beat up right uh and then it it like screens past and like the Dark Watchers is actually like a bouncer of like all these creatures like alright go ahead he's pulling them out from like all different dimensions he's like okay fairies fairies no not cornishy not Cornish fairies fairies Cornish fairies we'll get to you fairies fairies yeah it's your turn uh okay here are the rules you get five minutes you are not allowed to kill them blah blah blah you can main strangle like sexually assault whatever you want to do and they just go like fly in there just beat the shit out of them bigfoot bigfoot yeah you're in you just already go I came back around I paid for four passes I'll feel that would be that would be hilarious there's just a tree with a door painted on it he's just opening it up and it's just like stating his head out and it's just a line of fairy tale monsters like that would be funny. Anyway so I had a a short story idea or short movie idea where you have somebody it's like single person right uh and he goes out camping in this area and he wants to find the he he he wants to see them right yeah so he sees one and then that like sparks the like I have to go more I have to go further I have to go to where it was I have to see where it was standing I have to do XYZ this and they lead him down basically up a ridge and down and he either finds like I said like you have a portal to another dimension um you have some kind of gate to another dimension something and I want to make it like a little almost extraterrestrial like they kept showing themselves because they saw hit that he was alone and they bring him into like basically what is like a hell like a void hellscape. But that's just where the movie would end. So it's one guy walking through the woods sweaty as hell like I have to I have to see them and every time they present himself he speeds up and then it's like okay he's getting discouraged he's getting discouraged and he sees it off over here and he turns and he he winds his way up and then down and they every time they show themselves they get a little closer and you start making out like like little little features like like oh it it has arms like it's not just like a robed figure it has arms. Yeah oh this one beckoned me oh this one waved oh this one did this oh this one did that and I get closer and closer and like you kind of have like the build and then it's like and it's like where am I what happened and it's like you know you entered the shadow realm and you were here for existence. And like kind of I want him to almost kind of have like the ego trip of like I knew I knew I was destined for this and then when he gets there he's like this isn't what I wanted and think of like uh yeah like he gets there and like it's just hands like dark hands grasping him as the only bit of light but as they touch it his light dims and then it's like Acorus touching too close. Yeah yeah I got it. Yeah pretty much that but I feel like I could probably knock that out in like a 40 minute yeah there's one dude it's like three people the cameraman him and the watchers and it just gets closer and closer and closer. Did you ever see the void?
