Welcome to the Ghost and Ghouls podcast. I'm your host, Tyler. And with me I have the guy known as Spirit Stroker on our Discord, my co-host Anthony. Right here. Spirit Stroker in the flesh. That's not my name. And we have a guest, my wife Ashley. If you're new here, this is how this works. I'm going to read these two. Oh, did you want a name? I can back it up.
SPEAKER_00No, thank you.
SPEAKER_01And with me, I have Spirit Stroker and Freaky Nikki.
SPEAKER_00Ooh. Don't call me that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, if you're new here, this is how this works. I'm going to read these two a fictional horror story about a some kind of cryptid ghost ghoul goblin paranormal entity, possibly a historical event, extraterrestrial, something or another in the spooky realm, where I've replaced pretty much everything regarding the name with descriptions. And then they get to guess and figure out what we might be talking about this week. And we'll look at its history and uh what we're now dubbing running the gauntlet, which is a choose your own adventure scenario in which uh Anthony and Ashley here get to figure out if they can survive whatever this thing might be. Yes.
SPEAKER_00I can survive.
SPEAKER_01I need you to not ruin my record.
SPEAKER_02I'm 100% success rate.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm a final girl. We should be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02This is gonna be perfect. Make sure to go ahead and leave a like, go ahead and subscribe, hit that bell for any notification, as well as follow us on our TikTok, Instagram, uh, Facebook now, and uh yeah, Twitter. I I stay, I try to stay off of it, but we need it. And uh as well as uh we if you want to help us out, we would really much appreciate it. We have links in the description where you can go and get your the audio or wherever you listen to, as well as a link to our Patreon to get it a day early, dollar only, uncut, unedit, all our mess ups, uh arguments, and things that YouTube just does not like. So certain words, yeah, and then as well as a link to our Discord that you can join. So we're starting that now.
SPEAKER_01You can come hang out with Spirit Stroker. I'm not naming myself Spirit Stroker.
SPEAKER_00Spirit Stroker.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's it. Well, and the crazy thing is though, is all the people that join via his invite link, which is what's in all the video descriptions, they all come in with the name, like with the they're they're not like member, they're all s spirits.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_01So I think it's just kind of like a weird, like grooming thing that he might be trying out. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Colt, that that's a that's a that's a pretty early-on allegation. Wait, wait, wait until we come here first! Wait until we at least have like 10k subs, then you can start throwing allegations in the row. Jeez.
SPEAKER_00So first 10K subscriptions get to make an allegation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's rough.
SPEAKER_02Spin the wheel.
SPEAKER_01All right, so we're gonna give them three yes or no questions to figure out where we might be, what we might be talking about, a little shot in the dark guest. See if they can get it off rip. Okay. So, three yes or no questions.
SPEAKER_03Three each?
SPEAKER_01Nope, three together. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_02I was worried we'd get it if we got three each. Oh, absolutely. Because my two the two questions I always ask is if it's native origin or if it uh if its name dictates what it is or what it does.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Those are usually the two I I do.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02So I don't know. Uh go ahead.
SPEAKER_00You start and then I'll fill in.
SPEAKER_02I'll do the the main one is does its name dictate what it is or what it does? Yes. Okay. So you remember Rolling Head and Yeah, so there's like Would like werewolf be in that because it turns into a wolf?
SPEAKER_00Would that be included?
SPEAKER_02Um no, werewolf. I don't think I don't think he does like exactly werewolf.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02I think he does like actual names like Ruguru and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_00Um, is it a humanoid creature? Human or humanoid, human-like?
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna say no.
SPEAKER_00Okay. But he doesn't look like super sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So there's a lot of it can be like spirits as well. I'll I'll say this.
SPEAKER_01I'll say this. There there is a or was a human associated very closely to this story and what this thing might be. Um that's blamed for a lot, but is not the direct uh what we're talking about.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so spirit or either witchcraft type deal, maybe. I don't know. Should we ask about the native origin?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I feel like if he said yes or no, would that give you a better indication of what it is?
SPEAKER_02Okay, that's a fifth that that one's a 50-50. If it says yes, then the it's easier to kind of go off of.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02But if he says no, we're screwed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because usually like native origin stuff is very like walking s walking Sam, rolling head, depicted on off of like either like emotions or stuff like a catastrophe.
SPEAKER_02Or not catastrophes, but like different.
SPEAKER_01That was crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Fed her to her uh children. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That was actually pretty tragic.
SPEAKER_02So okay, is this native origin? No. Oh god. Okay, well we know it's in in North America.
SPEAKER_01Sure, I'll give you each a guess.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna ask if there was like a major Hollywood anything about it.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, that would have been a good question. Yeah, whatever.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that you should Oh, that's true.
SPEAKER_00Don't I get another question? Sure, I'll give you one more. Okay, is there any major Hollywood movies in our? Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Oh okay. You go you guess first.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I'm just gonna throw out a dart and I'm gonna say I'm going to say it's um I wanted to say something about like one of the killer. Like a like Texas chainsaw and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_02But like, I don't know, it could also be stuff like paranormal. Like paranormal activity or something. Yeah, sure. Is it is it leatherface, like t Texas Chainsaw Massacre? No.
SPEAKER_00Is it like poltergeist?
SPEAKER_02Close.
SPEAKER_00Well, okay. What if I got the like would the would the show be over if I got the answer?
SPEAKER_01No, we'd still go through the story.
SPEAKER_00Is it a poltergeist?
SPEAKER_01Uh some some call it a poltergeist, yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_00I win. Show's over. Thanks for watching.
SPEAKER_02I already did my guess. Okay. Question. I mean, unless you have like a direct name or would I know it?
SPEAKER_00Like knowing me, would I know the name?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it's pretty it's pretty well. No. I felt like it was conjuring. It's pretty well.
SPEAKER_00Bloody Mary.
SPEAKER_02No. No, it's definitely conjuring.
SPEAKER_00Yeah? Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01No, we're talking about the conjuring house today.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Did we just ruin the whole thing?
SPEAKER_01No, not at a mall, not at a mall. You guys kind of guessed around and got it off rip. I gave it away.
SPEAKER_00Has that ever happened before?
SPEAKER_01Never. Never. This is the first time I think we've gotten a history uh in Ghosts and Ghouls podcast. Oh my gosh, hold on.
SPEAKER_02I actually saw a Firefly for the first time. Yeah, there's about I saw one. Yeah, the little because they're finally they're they're gone. A lot of them are.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They're starting to come back. We're outside. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We saw some uh a few weeks ago when we went on some night walks.
SPEAKER_01Actually, this is all AI generated. Are you this story is called The Last Upload? Alright. The YouTube channel, Midnight Static, had built its reputation on spending nights in supposedly haunted locations. Abandoned hospitals, forgotten prisons, cursed forests. Nothing had ever happened beyond strange noises and equipment glitches. Their last their latest video promised to be different. The title had already been scheduled. We survived 24 hours inside the most haunted house in America. The comments were exploding before filming even began. The crew consisted of four people. Mason, channel owner, Leah, camera operator, Eric, audio technician, and Chloe, research, and they're kind of historian. As the sun vanished behind the trees, the old farmhouse stood against the darkness like a black silhouette carved from the night itself. The house seemed larger in person. Older. Mason smiled at the camera. What's up, static squad? Tonight we're spending the enti the entire night in the infamous most haunted house in America. The front door creaked open, but no one had touched it. Everyone laughed nervously. Great Stark, Eric muttered. By 11 p.m., they had already recorded enough strange footage for a successful episode. Whispers appeared on audio recordings, a flashlight flashlight switched on by itself. One camera repeatedly captured a dark figure figure standing at the end of a hallway before disappearing. Still, nothing seemed dangerous until Chloe found the basement. The door sat hidden behind old shelving. When she pulled it open, a foul smell rolled out. Not mold or decay, something sour, like meat forgotten in the summer heat. The wooden stairs descended into complete darkness. Mason grinned. That's where we're going. The basement felt colder than the rest of the house. Their breath drifted through the air. The camera lights illuminated ancient stone walls covered with moisture. Eric suddenly froze. Did you hear that? Everyone listened. Silence. Then, a woman crying. Soft, but distant. Somewhere beneath them. Leah turned pale. There's nobody else down here. The crying became louder and closer. It sounded like someone kneeling directly behind them. They spun around. Nothing. Only darkness. And the crying stopped instantly. At 11.17 a.m., the first attack occurred. Mason was filming a monologue when his camera violently jerked upward. The footage later showed something impossible. A woman's face, for a single frame, not standing nearby, not hiding behind furniture, pressed directly against the lens. Grey skin, sunken eyes, an expression of absolute hatred. The camera crashed to the floor. Mason screamed. Blood poured from three fresh scratches running down his neck. Deep enough to leave skin hanging. Something scratched me! Leah's hands shook. No one touched you! The scratches continued appearing. One, then another, then another, as if invisible claws were dragging themselves across his flesh. The atmosphere inside the house changed. The air grew heavy. Breathing became difficult. Every room felt occupied. Every shadow seemed alive. The investigators began hearing footsteps overhead despite being alone in the building. Slow, heavy footsteps, pacing, waiting. The sound continued for nearly an hour. Whenever they climbed upstairs to investigate, the footsteps moved below them. When they returned downstairs, the footsteps moved up above them again. Something was leading them around the house, playing with them. At 2.46 a.m., the live stream abruptly cut out. Viewers later reported seeing a dark figure standing behind Chloe seconds before the signal died. The crew never noticed. The cameras did. Chloe disappeared first. One moment she was reviewing notes in the dining room. The next moment she was gone. Her flashlight remained on the floor. Camera still recording. The footage captured her turning towards the hallway. Her expression changed. Confusion then terror. A voice whispered from somewhere nearby, a woman's voice. Come downstairs. Chloe walked towards the basement door. The camera continued recording after she had vanished. The basement door slowly opened by itself and slammed shut. The three remaining searched the house. They called her name repeatedly, no response, until they found the basement and the door stood open again. At the bottom of the stairs lay Chloe's camera, covered in blood, but no Chloe. Only a message scratched in the stone wall. Leave. The letters looked freshly carved and was still wet with blood. Panic overtook the group. They decided to abandon filming and leave immediately. Mason grabbed the front door handle. It wouldn't open. He pulled harder, nothing. The deadbolt wasn't locked. The door simply refused to move. Every window produced the same result, as if the house had sealed itself shut, keeping them inside. Then the screaming began. Not one voice, hundreds. Men, women, children, all screaming simultaneously from inside the walls. The sound was deafening. The cameras malfunctioned, lights exploded, glass shattered through the house. Leah fell to her knees, clutching her ears, blood seeped from her nose, Eric vomited, and the walls themselves seemed to vibrate with rage. At 3:33 a.m., every camera switched on simultaneously, even those with dead batteries. Every screen displayed the same image: a woman hanging from a tree. Her neck twisted at an unnatural angle, her face hidden by darkness. Slowly, painfully, the head turned towards them, the eyes opened, the image smiled, and then every screen went black. Leah tried to run. She sprinted blindly through the house, searching for an exit, and the others tried to follow. Behind them came footsteps, not humans, something crawling and fast. The sound of nails scraping across wood, across ceilings, across walls, moving impossibly quickly, closing in. The final footage was recovered weeks later. Authorities discovered that the camera scattered throughout the farmhouse. The recordings ended at 3 41 a.m. The last clip showed Mason hiding beneath the staircase and sobbing, covered in blood. The camera shook violently in his hands. A voice echoed through the darkness, not from the house, not from another room, but from directly behind him. You came looking for ghosts? Mason slowly turned. The camera caught a glimpse of a pale face emerging from the darkness, eyes black as pits, mouth stretched impossibly wide, the image froze. Static consumed the screen. The recording ended. None of the four investigators were ever found. The channel remained online. Months later, subscribers noticed something disturbing. A new video appeared. No thumbnail, no title, no description, just a black screen. Thousands clicked it, most hearing nothing. Some claimed they heard distant breathing. Others reported whispers. A few swore they could see faces moving within the darkness. But the video was removed within hours. But not before viewers noticed a final frame hidden near the end. A single image. Four figures standing motionless in the basement of the farmhouse, their eyes completely black, smiling directly at the camera, waiting, as though inviting the next investigators to come inside. We're talking about the conjuring.
SPEAKER_02I'm not gonna lie, we we did kind of take a little bit more guesses than we should have. Yeah, it's okay.
SPEAKER_01It's all in good fun. We have guests.
unknownJust a couple.
SPEAKER_01Alright. So you have the real conjuring story, and then you have the made-up Hollywood one that everybody knows and loves.
SPEAKER_02Wasn't that the like paranormal, like, wasn't it like an exorcism?
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_02For the conjuring?
SPEAKER_01I'm pretty sure there was multiple exorcisms.
SPEAKER_02I'm saying, isn't that how it started? Or wasn't it because of it wasn't Annabelle, wasn't it? I'm glad you asked.
SPEAKER_01So, the movie versus the story. The movies are movies, and that's it. They're movies. The only similarities in the movies are the names of the people involved. That's about the only thing. So, the real life event that inspired the conjuring centers on the experience of the Perrin family, whose story was later chronicled by eldest daughter, Andrea Perrin, in her three-book series House of Darkness, House of Light. The known facts, in 1970, Carolyn and Roger Perrin moved into a 14-room farmhouse located at 1667 Round Top Road in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Along with their five daughters, the family would live in the home for the next decade. 14 rooms.
SPEAKER_00That's what I was gigantic.
SPEAKER_01It's a huge you see it from the outside and you're like, oh my god, but the house kind of have an ass, it kind of has an ass on it.
SPEAKER_02It's like a museum.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did we watch the conjuring?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we watched the conjuring together.
SPEAKER_02That was it with the lady and everything, and the mother, and then uh Ed and Lorraine went and tried to help.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Gotcha. Okay. Although the books in the film portray the property as remote and ice and uh and isolated, it is actually situated only 25 minutes from Providence, Rhode Island, and roughly an hour from Boston. Um, the house itself dates back to 1736 and stands on approximately eight and a half acres of land. Throughout its long history, it has been owned by known by several names, including the Richardson House, the Arnold Estate, Old Brook Farm. Today, however, it is only recognized as the conjuring house due to its connection to the horror franchise.
SPEAKER_00What did this guy do for work on eight and a half acres of land in a 14-bedroom house?
SPEAKER_01He wrote scary stories. So what? No. They came up with scary stories. Oh. Just like uh that was kind of one of the things with uh the Amityville the Amityville Horror House, too.
SPEAKER_00But they weren't like horror writers.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no. But Ed and R Ed and uh Lorraine come in.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So according to the Perrin family, unusual activity started not long after they moved into the farmhouse. Household items would unexp inexplicably uh unexpectedly vanish and later reappear. The family reported hearing strange sounds throughout the home, including scraping of metal on a kettle, dirt would mysteriously appear on freshly cleaned floors, and other odd occurrences became increasingly common. As they escalated, Carolyn began researching property history in an attempt to understand why it might be causing the disturbance. Uh much of Andre Andrea Parents' account is based on the research and conclusion her mother did during this period. So daughter wrote the book, wrote it off mom's research.
SPEAKER_02Um did wasn't it off of a burial site? Like a normal, like Native American burial site? No, no.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00I think that might have been part of the movie though, right?
SPEAKER_01I don't think so. That's I'm pretty sure that's the plot of poltergeist. Or was it just the house is on an American on a Native American burial ground. That might have been, oh no, it was.
SPEAKER_00They all kind of what you call it?
SPEAKER_02So was it just a murder?
SPEAKER_01So it I'll we're gonna get to that.
SPEAKER_02Because they also found, if I'm correct, they found near the conjuring house, the actual house, they found um uh it was a new location that they found, which was uh just a cemetery. They had no idea it was. I think they found that like a couple years ago, like before 2020.
SPEAKER_01They might have. Um but the parents, they kind of came up with a couple things. They believe that numerous tragedies had occurred on the property over centuries. According to their findings, Lana had been linked to several unexplained deaths, including the deaths of children, a suicide in the attic, and drowning in a nearby creek. The family believed that many of those who had died remained attached to the property as spirits. Kind of like uh the park, uh, Shawnee Lake. The family members claimed to encounter several apparitions. Spirits, uh, one spirit was reportedly reportedly accompanied by the odor of decaying flesh. Carolyn eventually became convinced that a powerful female entity was responsible for many of the disturbances and exerted influence over the other spirits to inhabit the home. So this ended up becoming the Bathsheba legend. So Bathsheba, if you remember in the movie, was the witch that possessed Carolyn. And that was making her do fli like flips in the chair in the basement. Um and we'll kind of get to her here in a second.
SPEAKER_02I you know, I still don't I don't know if I still believe I don't know if I believe the conjuring house.
SPEAKER_01I think that's so going back into the realm of belief in the thing makes it like makes the thing. I feel like so many people believe that the conjuring house is haunted, that it thins the veil to the other side, and that allows spirits to manipulate stuff in the conjuring house.
SPEAKER_02Because didn't they say the parent it was no, they they weren't con artists, were they?
SPEAKER_01No, Ed and R Ed and Lorraine were though. Allegedly con artists. They're con artists. I don't they uh there were some things that you know. So within months of moving into the farmhouse, Carolyn began seeking help from paranormal investigators. One investigative group, which included a psychic medium claimed to witness numerous unexplained events. They reported objects moving without cause, mysterious sounds, unusual odors, and alleged communication with several spirits, including a child known as Manny, and an elderly woman described as troubled or disturbed. Not everyone who investigated the house reached the same conclusions, though. Interestingly, Roger Perrin appeared largely unaffected by the alleged hauntings. According to family accounts, he never personally witnessed anything supernatural and often discouraged discussion about the ghost and the paranormal experiences within the household. Oh. So, my wife is just crazy. She might have been schizophrenic. Despite skepticism from investigators and outsiders, uh, the parents remained convinced that something unusual was occurring in the farmhouse. Determined to find answers, they continued searching. Help. Which would lead us to the Warrens. Yep, Ed and Lorraine. Enter Ed and Lorraine. Ed Warren described himself as a demonologist, author, and lecturer, while his wife Lorraine claimed to possess clairvoyant abilities and to function as a light trance medium. Together they founded the New England Society for Psychic Research, or Nesper, in 1952. They spent decades re investigating reports of paranormal activities throughout the United States. Before becoming involved in the parent family, the warrants had already gained national attention through several highly publicized cases, including the supposed Raggedy Ann doll that would later become known as Annabelle. Annabelle. Annabelle. We like Annabelle.
SPEAKER_00So that's that's why it's like so hard to call them Condolls so bad. Where did Annabelle take place?
SPEAKER_01Condoring.
SPEAKER_02Wait, right?
SPEAKER_01No. No, the Annabelle doll was actually owned by well, it's owned, it was owned owned by the Warrens afterwards, but it was actually owned by like a girl and her roommates. And then like basically stuff started happening, and the roommates were like, hey, you gotta get rid of the doll.
SPEAKER_00But where did that take place? Like, was it in like New England-ish area?
SPEAKER_01This all happens.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, it seems like they they picked a very opportune place with Salem being up there, the witch trial.
SPEAKER_02But again, you you call them like con artists, but like then then all the items that they have in their museum is just completely used. Hartford, Connecticut.
SPEAKER_00I don't know that I would call them con artists. I would call them business owners.
SPEAKER_02Maybe exag me they probably exaggerated a lot of their things, maybe for theatric. Uh what is the word?
SPEAKER_00Theatric. Yeah, I think anybody that um like writes books or does movies or things like that, like there's always a little bit of because during their time too, like catching things on film and recordings was like new, like for for for what they were doing. Yeah, technology was pretty good.
SPEAKER_02So they were kind of like away with more and they were the first too.
SPEAKER_01So the the this is all you and all you Warren fans out there. I mean, I'm fan. Okay. Do what? I'm a fan. Okay.
SPEAKER_00You can be a fan and still say, like, I don't 100% believe them.
SPEAKER_01My my whole thing is they hit the Conjuring House. Mm-hmm. Books were written. You have the Annabelle doll, which was highly publicized, you had the uh the Amityville house, highly publicized. Yes. So wherever like big haunting stuff was happening, they were there. They were there, and I believe, and this is just me looking at kind of like the history of all the stuff I've looked at, they were kind of like the gas throne on the on the spark to make the fire goof, and it was like, holy shit, Ed and Lorraine Warner here, it's it's actually haunted. And that was all before social media, so yeah, like news outlets and newspapers, like they they ate this shit, they ate this shit up. But to a point, yeah, truly. Now, could they have b could the warrants have believed that they were doing the fucking they were in it to win it, they were fighting the freaking the demon and the devil himself? Probably. Maybe do I think they did it with wit without the idea of making money? No, they were out, they were out there to make money.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah. They're not mutually exclusive. No. Yeah, I mean, I believe in it, but I'm also using this to fund my lifestyle.
SPEAKER_01Oh, absolutely. Which also find by me. Get your get your old bag, Warren's. Do your thing.
SPEAKER_00Also, I do think that um they kind of operate in a business of like go looking for trouble, trouble will find you. Yeah, kind of deal. So like what you were saying, like or maybe one of you was saying, like, thinning that veil. Maybe because they were seeking it, they were more susceptible to the activity.
SPEAKER_02But again, too, like I just it's so hard to think that the they're saying they're con artists is a little too harsh just because all the items that they have would mean it's useless. Like, none of the items are real then, even though they've had multiple hauntings and even continued to be.
SPEAKER_01Not particularly.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you you think of the Annabelle doll itself, like but but then you you actually when you know the history of the stuff, you you know, oh, the shadow doll is is much worse.
SPEAKER_00It is still a piece of history though, because it was still a highly publicized moment in time. Just because it's not applicable doesn't mean that it's not important.
SPEAKER_01But it's also one of those things, like I worked with a dude who when the when the Annabelle doll, the actual Annabelle doll, was going on tour for the Annabelle movies and it went missing for like two weeks, like he was having nightmares about that doll.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_01Like, dude, you you are nowhere near where that doll is traveling. That doll is going from from the from the northeast down to LA and back. Brother, we're in the south. You that doll is not coming anywhere near close to you.
SPEAKER_00Maybe if you're worried that it is, maybe it shows up. You've done something wrong.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But it's oh god. I'm I I think, and and this is just this is just me. I I think they were con artists to a point. But I think that they they delved so much in the dark that belief in the things that they were they were doing manifested something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So the animal doll might have had something attached to it, but because they went in and they gave it publicity and they let it be known, whatever that thing was became stronger.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely. Oh, yeah, it's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of like when we were talking about walking Sam. You know, it could be something, a shadow person or something, but because it was given a name, and because so many people started talking about it and believing in it, now all of a sudden it's an entity versus just being a shadow.
SPEAKER_00They also could be totally full of crap, be complete con artists and really good at their job.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And which I just can't believe that either. You know, I feel like they're in the middle to where, like, oh, they just like highly exaggerate their stories. Sure, it might be like, oh yeah, it actually knocked over a cup.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. To where I was, oh no, he floated in the air, floated in the air, and then mauled me, and then yeah, and then it jacked, it jacked it off.
SPEAKER_02And I I don't think it did any of that.
SPEAKER_01Which I mean, I don't know, he was kind of a pedophile too. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there was uh an allegation where he had like this 16-year-old girl that they were like grooming. Oh gosh. Like, yeah, and no, it was a whole thing. Like I went down that rabbit hole too, and that's kind of where I was like, that kind of once again claim to fame. I got the I got to this point. Now I gotta start, you know, kids. It's like, oh fuck, dude. That's disgusting.
SPEAKER_00Dr. Manning told me once that the only people that it was really hard for him to find information on bearded dragons because the only people that are really into bearded dragons are little kids or freaking weirdos. Yeah. Horror is kind of the same thing where it's like only young people or it's really weird old people.
SPEAKER_01Hi, we're weird people.
SPEAKER_00We're weird people.
SPEAKER_01I'm very young.
SPEAKER_00But we're not weird to the point that we're like doing weird, shady stuff. You know what I'm saying? Oh, yeah. Like weird stuff invites weird people too. Oh yeah, yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_01We try to keep it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, fans, and then you have people that are like, this is an opening. Opportunistic, an obsession.
SPEAKER_01Oh god.
SPEAKER_00NBC sponsor us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Curry Barker. Come be my best friend. All right, anyway. So Carolyn starts in with this woman thing, right? Well, then they find Bethsheba. According to local folklore and stories, Carolyn and uh Carolyn encountered during her research. Bethsheba Sherman was a 19th-century woman associated with several several dark rumors. Various tales claim that she had been connected with the death of an infant and was viewed by some locals as a practitioner of witchcraft. Over to these times, uh over time, these stories grew more elaborate with accounts alleging uh cruelty, child murder, devil worship, and ultimately unaliving herself.
SPEAKER_00Sounds like a witch hunt.
SPEAKER_01However, many of these claims remain unverified, and historians have actually found little to no evidence to support the more sensational aspects of the legend. Nevertheless, the stories captured the warren's attention.
SPEAKER_00Could you say Bathsheba Sherman five times fast?
SPEAKER_01No. B. Sherman. B. Sherman, B. Sherman, B. Sherman, B Sherman, B. Sherman. As the investigation continued, Lorraine became convinced that Bathsheba Spirit was responsible for much of the activity reported within the home. From that point forward, the alleged entity haunting the farmhouse became widely known amongst the investigator and the Perrin family as Bathsheba. One incident frequently cited in accounts of the haunting involved Carolyn Perrin discovering a circular wound on her calf after experiencing a sudden sharp pain. Some interpret the injury as evidence of a supernatural attack. Lorraine reportedly suggested that the wound could have been connected to Bathsheba and the legends surrounding her. So, blah, blah, blah. They do an exorcism, they fight ghosts, they do a seance, they do all the the all the things. Yeah. Um, despite the frightening stories that emerge from the investigation, the Perrin family continued living in the farmhouse for nearly a decade.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_02Nah, that that's where it's like, okay, you're milking it. Now, now the sense there's like a sensation on it.
SPEAKER_01Yep. After the Warrens became involved, they remained in the home until 1980. According to the family's accounts, paranormal activity continued to varying degrees throughout their time. However, when the parents eventually moved away, the experiences they associated with the haunting reportedly came to a halt. Yeah. Let me get dragged one time. I'm out of there. Whether the events of the farmhouse were the results. So whether the events of the farmhouse were the result of genuine paranormal forces, misunderstandings, folklore, suggestions, or some combination of the factors remain a subject of debate. What is certain is that the parent family story, the Warren's investigation, and the legend of Bathsheba Sherban would eventually become the foundation for one of the most successful horror franchises in modern cinema.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I mean, and then you can make the argument, oh, money was an issue, but I don't care.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02I'm moving out of that place.
SPEAKER_00So I'd be back at my mom's before I allowed myself to be haunted. Though, you know, in movies like Paranormal Activity, they bring up like them leaving the place, but she Oh, she haunted. Oh, the the girl in the movie was like, even they talked to someone, I can't remember exactly, but the idea was like, even if I leave, like it's attached to me now.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, so there is this kind of like, oh, it's in the house, once you leave the house, you're done. Or it attaches itself to a person.
SPEAKER_01So a lot of times it attaches to the house.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, to its location.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I went down the rabbit hole of one Bathsheba. Born Bathsheba Thayer in 1812 and married Judson Sherman in 1844. The couple lived on a farm on a farm in the Harrisville area and had at least one child who survived into adulthood. Historical records indicate that she was a real resident of the community and remained there for much of her life. Um, the most notorious story connected to her involves the death of an infant who was reportedly in her care. Local rumors claim that the child died of a sharp object was found in its skull. However, as Sheba was never charged with murder, no court records show any conviction, historians have found little documentation supporting the more sensational version of the story. So, kind of some folklore. Is she a witch? There's no historical evidence that she ever practiced witchcraft. How did she die? Well, they said she hung herself. If you remember in this in the movie, in the poster, there's the news in the big tree. Um she actually most likely died from natural causes at the in the 1885 related to agencies and ages. They just hollywood her. They hollywood her.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so she would have been 7073 in 1885.
SPEAKER_00So was she a doctor or a midwife or something?
SPEAKER_01No, she was just a wife.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01She was just a lady. She married her husband. They had a kid. They had, and they might have had a you know, at that time where one of their kids just didn't make it, and that was the infantside rumor that just sprouted out and just went fucking crazy.
SPEAKER_00It happens.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, so Bathsheba in the movie, like, okay, fun, but she wasn't actually anything. She was just a person, and they found her name, and I think they just kind of ran with that.
SPEAKER_02Especially with that name, there's no way you're not a witch.
SPEAKER_01Beth Sheba Sherman.
SPEAKER_00Like, she was a poltergeist entity waiting to happen herself.
SPEAKER_02If they've just shortened her name, Beth. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Beth was fine. They couldn't have with Elizabeth?
unknownGod.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Elizabeth can it can be 50-50.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's fair.
SPEAKER_02Like.
SPEAKER_00Same with Mary. Because you have like, you know, Mary. And then you have like Mary, Queen of Scots.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Bloody Mary.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of there's a lot of Mary ghosts. I was gonna say there was that one nerd. Hitchhiking ghost was named Mary. In uh in Chicago?
SPEAKER_00All of those old ones, like Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, they all they all kind of Bethsheba.
SPEAKER_02That's that's a witchcraft. That's witchcraft, yeah. That's something that you would probably name a World of Warcraft character.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. There's at least one in PC.
SPEAKER_02I like that, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You're telling me you're not naming, like you make a female character and it's an orc, a half orc, and her name isn't Best Sheba. Come on. Like Best Sheba Sherba. Sherman, the father was the human half.
SPEAKER_02That's rough. But uh I don't know. I still think the conjuring house is kind of like iffy. I still want to go. Oh, absolutely. I would love to go. How long are you staying? Like, would you stay a full night or would you like Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_00You mean visiting between 2 and 4 p.m. and then promptly leaving during the summer, five hours before the sun.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm showing up there at like a cool nine o'clock with like a maybe like a handle of vodka.
SPEAKER_00And I'm just getting-d'd be smart.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm getting in there with with cameras and alcohol, and I'm getting rip shit drunk, and I'm gonna me and these ghosts are about to party to some white girl jams, throwing Kesha on.
SPEAKER_00Like it's gonna be like scary movie too.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Nah, I'm pulling the clown back under the bed like in Scary Movie. Like, come here.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna get off-screened by like that's how you get offship. By who? By who? By Bathsheba? By Bethsheba.
SPEAKER_01Me and her are gonna be throwing throwing back shots. I'm gonna be, you know, she can be twerking her little ghost booty on me.
SPEAKER_00All dusty.
SPEAKER_01It's just like dust coming off of it, you know.
SPEAKER_00Dies within five seconds.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I might, but I would be having fun.
SPEAKER_00Unnamed character.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_02No, like seriously, if you get dragged or like, you know, float in the air for a second, it's like, are you leaving immediately or are you like, oh my gosh, and then stay?
SPEAKER_01I'd probably run out and then I would hopefully be able to will myself to go back in. You think uh I'm not staying. Like I'd be.
SPEAKER_00You're too jumpy.
SPEAKER_01I am jump, I'm very jumpy, but I wouldn't, I won't I wouldn't.
SPEAKER_02I'm not gonna lie, if we're walking through the house and like I go in like to a room first and it closes, right? I'm already out. Like if it closes and I'm in that other room and then I finally get out, I'm full balling, I'm out, I'm I'm not staying.
SPEAKER_00That was great. What happened?
SPEAKER_01Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. What happened to the guy who, when the ghost went to jack him off, that you would pull down your pants and be like, take me instead, leave my friends alone. Listen, as you like, pull your hand to your ankle, belly. As you get lifted up into the girl, oh like into the air. By Bathsheba? I just I feel like I don't know. I feel like Yeah, but you're but you're getting on.
SPEAKER_00I think, I'm gonna say this. I think I would stay longer in the house than you would. Okay.
SPEAKER_01We would have to go to the base. This is the woman that is grabbing you by the dick.
SPEAKER_02I'm out immediately. I'm gone.
SPEAKER_00You feel much worse.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_02That's fucked. That's so fucked up. Um but again, I'm I'm not staying, you know.
SPEAKER_01I'm not. Okay. Well, we're gonna find that out right now in the gauntlet. Okay. Okay, so.
SPEAKER_00You were like, let's go to Providence, Rhode Island? Is it was it in Providence?
SPEAKER_01It's close to Providence. 25 minutes from Providence. Okay. You two have always been fascinated by paranormal stories. After hearing countless tales of an isolated farmhouse in rural Rhode Island, one rumor has plague one one rumored to be plagued by violent spirits, you decide to spend a single night. The challenge is simple. Survive until sunrise. The rules are not. You're gonna play as yourselves. You carry flashlights, each a video camera, cell phones for reception, and a back a backpack of miscellaneous supplies. Okay. Um, do you want to do your your your fast run or do you want to do so?
SPEAKER_02Believe it or not, I do like speed runs. I was like, okay, A, B, and then C, and then we'll see what happens after. You know, but listen, I'm gonna be honest with you if we actually did this. You'd only have A. I would have never actually made it into the house. I would just film everything outside, had a You're gonna be the B-roll bitch.
SPEAKER_00He'd be going in circles.
SPEAKER_02No, I would film everything outside and have like a back wall of fake things. Like, I'm inside the house. Like, I would fake everything.
SPEAKER_01You just got like haunted house curtains, you just keep swapping out.
SPEAKER_00Like he'd be in our garage. Yeah. I'd be the biggest cognitive.
SPEAKER_02In their living room. And then just go right into the RV, just like that's terrible. Uh so what's A? That's all the let's just do this normally then.
SPEAKER_01As darkness falls, you park outside the aging farmhouse. The windows stare down at you like empty eyes. A cold wind rattles the dead trees surrounding the property. The front door stands slightly ajar. You swallow hard. Nope. Tell me why again we're doing this? Before you can answer. No, that's definitely me. So one of you says, tell me again why we're doing this. Probably you. It's me. Before you answer, a loud thud echoes from somewhere inside the house. What would you like to do? You can either A entry through the front door, B, walk around the house first and inspect the property, C, decide this was a terrible idea and leave immediately. That's probably the smartest thing.
SPEAKER_00Knowing me, what I would do is I'd be like, we're gonna run it, we're gonna sprint in full speed, we're gonna try to see it, but then we're booking it. You know? Oh but okay. Have you ever been on a roller coaster?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Do you like roller coasters?
SPEAKER_02They are, yeah, yeah. Yeah? As far as I know, I've never been on one that fails. You don't like I hate roller coasters.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I I hate heights. I get panic attacks, and I hate the feeling of my guts moving in in my chest cavity. Like you don't like heights. I hate the the tower.
SPEAKER_00I don't like that. I don't like towers. Well I used to love them. Now not so much. No.
SPEAKER_01Fuck fuck all that.
SPEAKER_00But I just I'm the type of person that like I could adrenaline this, but I'm not staying like all night. Adrenaline, yes, but smart, yes.
SPEAKER_02I would s could could we just check around the house, you know, scoop the area first, maybe? No. No? You're going to be.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna go in, we're gonna like, we're kinda gonna speed run the inside, see what we can find. We're gonna set this up, and then but once we get what we came for.
SPEAKER_02You're entering.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because I feel like leaving actually like can't still walk in the property. I feel like the leaving is actually a trick question because I feel like it's gonna do that thing where you leave and you're driving down the dirt path. And then you end up back at the house, and it's just a loop.
SPEAKER_00Ooh.
SPEAKER_02You push the front door.
SPEAKER_00It's honestly freakier than anything going on in the house. I'd start crying.
SPEAKER_01You push the front door open, the old wood groans loudly, dust hangs in the air like fog. The moment you step inside, the temperature drops, not by a little, but by a lot. Breath becomes visible. Um, Anthony shines his flashlight around the foyer. The beam catches a staircase leading upwards into darkness. To your left is a dining room covered in white sheets, to your right, a narrow hallway disappearing towards the back of the house. You pull out your camera, the screen flickers, for a split second, a silhouette appears at the top of the stairs. Talls tall, motionless, gone. Did you see that? Before you can answer, the front door slams shut behind you. You both jump. You rush back to the try the lock the handle. Or try the handle, it's locked. You didn't lock it. You tried to try nothing. Then a faint voice jerks down from the upstairs. A woman's voice soft on the singing. The sound echoes through the house. Suddenly, three loud knocks ring out from somewhere above. Knock, knock, knock. The singing stops. Silence. Then you hear slow footsteps moving across the second floor above you. Alright. What do you do? You can either A, go upstairs and investigate the footsteps, B, explore the hallway on the first floor, or C, search the dining room for another exit or clues.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so there's something I feel like if I have like no, like I can't get out, I would immediately turn to like just provoking the hell out of this thing out of fear. I feel like I would actually do that.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So first of all, I'm going through the window. I guarantee there's at least one. They're all getting tried.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00If it doesn't open, it's getting broken.
SPEAKER_02But I I I feel like my my entire emotions would change.
SPEAKER_00So I have dre like when I have nightmares, I'm scared of my dreams, but I switch from scared to mad really quickly. And I'm the same way where I'm like, It's the final girl in you. I'm stomping up the stairs and I'm gonna kick some ghost ass. Like I in in in like reality, that's not gonna happen. But in my head, like it's on.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I feel like, yeah, if you I feel like it's that okay, it's either dying or I'm at least gonna go out fighting, you know, if there's no other option. I'm not, but uh what were the options?
SPEAKER_01So we have A, go upstairs and investigate the footsteps, B, explore the hallway on the first floor, or C search the dining room for another exit or clues.
SPEAKER_00I'm staying ground level.
SPEAKER_02I feel like we searched for another exit. Yeah, search for another exit. But like, what if we just completely just switch up and just come like just ignore it?
SPEAKER_03All right, just oh we just sit on the couch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like oh into the you guys go into the dining room. The sheet covered furniture looks like a gathering of silent figures waiting in the dark. Your flashlight sweeps across the long wooden table, dust, cobwebs, nothing unusual. Then Anthony freezes. Does that chair just move? You look, one chair sits pulled slightly away from the table. Neither of you remember it being like that, and as you watch, it slowly slides back into place. No sound or just no visible force, just movement. The air suddenly smells of damp earth, like a freshly dug soil. At the far end of the room, you notice a narrow door partially hidden by a hanging sheet. You pull the sheet aside. No door. The door leads to a small pantry. Inside are empty shelves and a rusted lantern. But scratches on the wall or but scratched into the wall are dozens of messages. Don't go into the basement. She waits low, keep the lights on. The writing appears to have been carved by many different hands over many different years. You guys laugh nervously. Well that's definitely not where we're going. Then something crashes in the kitchen, a deafening bang, like every pot and pan in the house hit the floor at one time. The entire farmhouse shakes. The lights on your camera dies. The screen fills with static. And through the static, for less than a second you see the image of a woman standing directly behind Anthony. Pale, head tilted unnaturally, eyes fixed on you. You spin around, there's nothing there. Anthony notices your expression. Before you can answer, a door somewhere deeper in the house slowly creaks open. The sound seems to come from the kitchen. At the same time, faint footsteps begin a moving across the floor above you. Not one set, but several. What do you do? You can head to the kitchen, investigate the crash, barricade yourselves in the pantry until whatever is happening stops, or C, ignore both noises and search for a way out through the back of the house.
SPEAKER_02In this situation, I'm not moving slowly too. Like so I'm sweeping this house like I'm playing Rainbow Six. Like I'm I'm pe I'm quick peeking corners and I'm going in fast. Like I'm not, I'm not, yeah, we're not. I feel like if you move slow, like you're wearing the city. You're expecting a jump scare and you're gonna get you're gonna get scared.
SPEAKER_01I actually learned that about uh cinematography and negative space.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like, nah, fuck that.
SPEAKER_02It's like uh no, you're running, I'm running through the first floor, like, okay, quick. So we're trying to find an exit out the back of the house?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02I would say yes.
SPEAKER_00Unless there's option D, pick up one of the chairs and bust out a window.
SPEAKER_02Why did we Okay, that's the dumbest thing ever.
SPEAKER_01Is yeah, we're gonna unlike take the covering off of a pant quote of a we're finding another way out now. That's me. Neither of you like the sounds of the kitchen. Nope. Neither of you wants to meet whatever's walking around upstairs. And we're not staying in the room. You leave the dining room, move through the hallway towards the rear of the house. The smell of damp earth grows stronger. Your flashlight catches muddy footprints on the floorboards, bare feet, small at first, then larger, then impossibly large. The tracks all lead towards the back door. That's not creepy at all. The hallway narrows until you reach the kitchen, cabinets open, pots and pans litter the floor. A chair hangs upside down from the ceiling, neither of you say a word. At the far end of the kitchen is the back door. Freedom. You rush towards it. The moment your hand touches the knob, something slams into the wall upstairs. The entire house trembles, then comes then comes another impact, and another, as though something massive is running through some rooms above. You pull the door, the cold night air floods in. Relief washes over you both. Your flashlights illuminate the yard, you stop dead. Car is gone. Not damaged, not hidden. We're in the backyard, yeah. Frickin gone. The gravel driveway where you parked is completely empty. What the hell? The woods surrounding the property seem darker now, deeper, as if the trees have moved a little closer. In the distant, light appears among them. A lantern. Someone or something is standing at the tree line, watching. Lantern sways gently back and forth, back and forth. A woman's voice drifts through the darkness, soft, singing the same turn tune you heard upstairs. The back door suddenly slams shut behind you, both of you jump. The lock clicks. Now you're outside, and the lantern begins moving slowly deeper into the woods as if inviting you to follow. Do you follow the lantern into the woods, stay near the house and search for another way back inside, run across the property and try to escape through the fields.
SPEAKER_00That one. Obviously. I'm about to become a marathon runner like you've never seen.
SPEAKER_02I don't need to outrun this. I just need to outrun you. You don't hesitate. Run. Honestly, I respect it. You know, that's survival instincts.
SPEAKER_00The two of you sprint the two of them. I think I'm faster than you right now.
SPEAKER_01No, absolutely. The two of you sprint away from the house and into the open field behind the property. Tall grass whips against your legs. The farmhouse grows smaller behind you, and for a moment, it feels like you made the right choice. Um, then Anthony stops. Wait, you nearly crash into him. What? He points ahead.
SPEAKER_00I'm a I'm in front of him.
SPEAKER_01Your stomach drops. The farmhouse stands in front of you. Oh, it's not. Not behind you in front, exactly where it was before. Same porch, the same broken windows, the same dead tree leaning beside the roof. Slowly you turn around and the field stretches behind you. No house, just darkness. That's impossible. A door on the porch creaks open by itself. Inside a faint yellow light flickers. The singing starts again, closer than before. Then your flashlights die. Now only the pale moon light remains. Something moves at the edge of your vision, a figure standing beside a dead tree, then another near a well, then another on the porch. None of them move. None of them need to. They're simply watching. A cold pressure settles over the field, the sensation of being surrounded. Excuse me. You think we can't stay out here. As if answering, a blood curling scream erupts from somewhere inside the house. Not angry, not threatening, terrified. Like someone witnessing something unspeakable. The scream abruptly cuts off. Silence. Then a single light appears in an upstairs window. A candle. The shadow passes in front of it. The shadow is far too tall to belong to any person. So, do you A return to the house and enter through the open front door? Hide behind the well and watch the house from a distance. Approach the dead tree and investigate the figure standing beside it.
SPEAKER_02The well's a turk one. I feel like something would push push us in or like take us in, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But like again, it's I'm staying away from the house.
SPEAKER_02I I would also want to stay away from the house. But I'll be real, I'd be trying to swing at everything. So you want to go swing at the figure next.
SPEAKER_00Screaming. Somebody would hear me. I don't care how remote it is remote it is.
SPEAKER_02Again, I would probably turn into like Ray Ray from from haunted house. Not gonna lie, you know what I'm saying? I I strongly believe if my back's against the wall like that, I'm not gonna be like my entire fear is gonna turn into like anger and like wanting to fight. Yeah. One last time at least.
SPEAKER_03I agreed.
SPEAKER_01Alright. If that's the case and you guys are trying to stay outside, approaching the dead tree. Yeah. And investigating the figure standing behind it? Beside it?
SPEAKER_00I guess. I don't want to be near the well either. It actually completely freaks me out. Like that is a fear of mine to get put in a place that I cannot get out.
SPEAKER_01You grip the dead f dead flashlight like a weapon and slowly approach the tree. Every horror movie starts with this exact decision.
SPEAKER_02No it doesn't.
SPEAKER_01The figure remains motionless, 20 feet away, 15-10. Moonlight spells across the field, the shape becomes cleaner. It's not standing behind the tree, it's leaning against it, head lowered. Long, dark hair hangs over its face. Its clothes look decades out of date, stained with dirt and mud. Neither of you hear breathing, neither of you hear anything at all. The entire property has become unnaturally silent. You stop five feet away, the figure slowly raises his head, the face beneath the hair is pale and expressionless. Its eyes are completely black. You take a step backwards. The figure speaks, not loudly, barely above a whisper. You're not supposed to be outside. Then points towards the farmhouse, the upstairs window, the candlelight, the towering shadow moving behind it. The figure's black eyes remain fixed on the house. And for the first time, it seems kind of frightened. A deep boom shakes the property. The upstairs candle extinguishes. Every window in the farmhouse suddenly goes dark. The figure beside the tree snaps its head towards the front door and expresses its expression changes, pure terror. Run! The word comes out like a gasp. The front door slowly swings open. Darkness fills the doorway. Not shadow, not a lack of light, but something darker. Something that seems to swallow the moonlight around it. Then a massive shape unfolds in the entrance. Tall and thin. It slim scraped the doorframe as it emerges. Emerges. We need to move now. The figure at the tree points frantically towards two possible routes. To the left, an old storm cellar protrudes from the ground near the house. That's no. To the right, a narrow path disappears into the woods beyond the property. Behind you, the towering shape takes its first step onto the porch. What do you want to do? It's only an A and B. Only an A and B.
SPEAKER_02Oh gosh. Because I ain't gonna lie. I'd start you know breaking ankles.
SPEAKER_03Fuck off.
SPEAKER_02That or like, and I completely understand. If you gotta sacrifice me, A, you gotta survive. You know what I'm saying? I'm gonna be able to do it. Like I would planning it. Like if you like again, you don't have to be faster than it. You just gotta be faster than me. Yeah. Or I gotta be faster than you. You know what I'm saying? It's like I understand. A. My mom taught me to survive. I would sacrifice her. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So you guys are running into the woods?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01The path? Yeah. Probably.
SPEAKER_00I'm not getting stuck in a cellar. I can tell you that right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's I Do I want to go in the woods?
SPEAKER_00No. But I'd rather know openness around me.
SPEAKER_01The two of you sprint towards the narrow path behind you, wood splinters, deafening creaks, echoes growing across the property. You don't look back. You don't want to. Um, why did it skip like that? It was weird. We survived.
SPEAKER_00We're safe. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You don't look back. You don't want to know what just stepped off that porch. Branches claw, you're close as you plunge into the trees. The t the path twists, the dense force illuminated by only moonlight. For several minutes, all you hear is your own breathing. Then a second set of footsteps. Heavy, slow, following, not running, walking confidently. Um keep moving. The steps continue. Crunch, crunch, crunch. Always the same distance behind, never closer, never farther away. As though whatever is falling knows exactly where you are. It's still one of those mom fast walks. The path eventually opens into a small clearing. In its center stands an abandoned stone chapel. The roof has partially collapsed. A rusted cross hangs crooked above the entrance. Moonlight shines through the shattered stained glass window. Most importantly, the footsteps stop. Complete silence returns. You double over, gasping for breath. I think I think we lost it. Then you notice something carved onto the chapel doorway. Safe until dawn. Below those words is another meant message. Do not open the door after midnight. You check your watch at 11 47 p.m. Hours remain till sunrise. As you stare at the warning, a lantern suddenly flickers to life inside the chapel, a warm golden glow. Unlike the cold light around the farmhouse. And for the first time all night, the place feels this place feels welcoming. So you can enter the chapel, ignore the chapel, and continue through the woods, or search around the outside of the chapel before deciding.
SPEAKER_00There's a crooked cross, I'm not going in.
SPEAKER_02I was just about to ask about the crooked cross. I was like, why is it crooked? And because a lot of times, you know, it might be one of those like, oh, it's trying to lure us in with the warmth and all that stuff. So wait, what is it? We can decide.
SPEAKER_01So you can search around the outside of the chapel before deciding.
SPEAKER_02Okay, if it's like last ditch effort, I would probably do it. I mean, I would probably like, I kind of want to just search around the chapel just to see.
SPEAKER_00What are we what do you think you're gonna find? That's my whole thing. It's like, what are we gonna find that makes us feel safe?
SPEAKER_01Let's see. Oh you guys circle the chapel slowly, keeping close to the broken stone walls, the lantern glows glow inside flickers through the shattered stained glass, painting of uh painting the trees in uneven patches of golden red. Outside the air feels wrong again. Not the farmhouse crushing cold, but something quieter, like the forest holding its breath. You point down near the foundation, look, you shine your light. There's scratches on the stone, deep gouges, like something large paced around this building for a long time, circling it, waiting. Below, the scratches are symbols carved to the rock. Some are crosses, others are not. Then you find something worse. A small metal hatch on the side of the chapel, half hidden beneath ivy. Old, rusted, recently disturbed. Fresh dirt has been pulled away from its edges. That wasn't on the sign. From inside the chapel, the lantern flickers brighter for a moment, then dims, then bright again. Like something is breathing through it. A soft sound drifts through the cracks in the stone, not singing this time, whispering. Multiple voices overlapping. And beneath it all, a slow scratching from inside the chapel walls. The carved warning near the door suddenly makes more safeness. Uh makes more sense. Safe until dawn, but not necessarily safe inside. You back up. We've got so we've got something in the chapel or something under it. The scratching stops. Complete silence again. Then a single deliberate knot comes from the metal hatch beside you from underground. What do you do? You can open the hatch and investigate what's in the chapel, go inside the chapel and trust the safe until dawn warning, or back away from the chapel and enter or and return to the forest.
SPEAKER_00Forest.
SPEAKER_02This is literally like Diablo 2. Like Diablo type. Like, are we gonna go into the instance of the Nope, we're not doing anything underground.
SPEAKER_00Nope.
SPEAKER_01You do guys don't argue? You guys are already backing up. The two of you retreat from the chapel, moving quickly back into the trees. The moment you leave the clearing, the forest feels different again. Thicker, darker, like it's closing ranks behind you. The chapel lantern glow, fades behind the branches, then disappears completely. Silence returns. No footsteps, no whispering, no wind. Just the crunch of your own movement. I don't like how quiet it got. You don't answer because you notice something ahead. The trees are thinning again. Another clearing. This one is wrong. In the center sits the farmhouse, exactly where it shouldn't be. Porch light flickering softly. Front door stands open just like before, as if it all as it as if it never changed locations at all. We're back we're back at the house. You notice something worth. The path behind you is gone. Just trees, no trail, no chapel, no way back. From inside the farmhouse, the faint singing starts again, closer to than before, and this time it's joined by footsteps moving across the upstairs floor, multiple sets. The front door creaks wider on its own, the lantern light from inside pulses like a heartbeat. We don't have a choice anymore, do we? A shadow passes behind the upstairs window, then another, waiting, watching. The house feels awake, and it feels like it recognizes you now. So, you can enter the farmhouse one final time.
SPEAKER_02You know, at this point, I'm just like, you know what, let's go to the death.
SPEAKER_01Circle the house for any hidden way out or weakness or stand your ground outside and refuse to go back in no matter what it does. Like, you go left, I'll go right. Like at this point, I'm fighting this thing.
SPEAKER_02Like, I wanna just like I'm tired.
SPEAKER_00I'm not going in there.
SPEAKER_02I don't care what's uh same as standing your ground in the woods.
SPEAKER_01I mean open field.
SPEAKER_00It's gonna have to come for me. We're not going for it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Both stay where you are. No, we're not going in there. If the far door remains open, the farm door remains open, gently creaking as if breathing, the singing stops, and for a moment everything is still. The porch light flickers once, twice, and hold steady. A new sound follows. Slow footsteps on the porch, not hurried or hunting, approaching. A tall silhouette appears in the doorway. It doesn't step out immediately, it just stands there framed by the dim light inside, watching you choose not to enter. The air grows colder again, not like earlier, but worse. Like something is draining warmth out of the world itself. I think it's angry. The figure tilts its head. Then behind it, more shapes appear on the hallway. One, two, then several. All standing, perfectly still. The original figure finally steps forward onto the porch. Its movements are slow and deliberate. Patient. Then it speaks not loudly, but directly in your mind rather than your ears. You were invited inside. The porch light flickers. Violently, the house creaks like it's stretching. The front door swings wider on its own, scraping against the frame. All these silhouettes are now facing you. Waiting. The forest behind you suddenly feels just as wrong as the house, and you realize something chilling. There is no outside anymore. Only where it allows you to stand. The figure on the porch raises his hand and points directly at you. What do you do? Do you want to run back into the woods? Even a path may not exist. Charge the house and try to break through the front front line inside. Stand still and try to communicate with it. I'd start swinging at it, but alright, whatever. You're gonna charge the house or what are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_02No, because we were invited in, it's angry. So if we try to go in now, it's technically like, oh, now you want to come in?
SPEAKER_00No matter what we do, it's just gonna keep coming after us. I'm waiting for it. I'm just waiting. I don't know what we're gonna try to communicate with it.
SPEAKER_02I would yeah, I would say I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_01Force yourself to stay in the grass. This is a long one. You guys have bounced around. Usually, like ant dies by this time. No, I scary. I've survived all of mine. You force yourself to stay planted. Talk to it. You don't move. You focus on the figure in the doorway, the silhouettes inside the house remain perfectly still. The porch light figure tilts its head again. The pressure intensifies. What do you want from us, you say? Silence. You came to witness, it says. You we didn't agree to anything. All the figures respond instantly. All who arrive agree. Inside the house, the silhouettes move for the first time, not towards you, towards the doorframe, testing the boundary. The moment it crosses the threshold of the hallway, the porch lights up. It violently snaps backwards as if yanked by an unseen force, and a scream erupts, cut short instantly. The porch figure doesn't react. It continues. This place is a mirror. The house creaks again. It reflects what follows you. The silhouette inside begins to shift subtly sub the silhouettes inside begin to shift. Not changing location, changing shape. Their outlines distort. I think it's showing us something. The porch figure raises its hand again, but this time it's not pointing at you, it's pointing behind you. Slowly, you don't want to turn, but you do, and for a fraction of a second you see it. Not the forest, not the house. Something standing in the space between, watching all of you at once, and it's gone. You look back at the porch, the figure is now closer, only a few steps away, and ask a final question. Do you want to leave or do you want to understand? We say leave, we leave right now. The house waits, the thing behind you waits, even the woods seem to wait. Do you want to say leave, understand, or refuse both and try to break the rules?
SPEAKER_02At this point, we're probably playing by its rule, so I think we gotta pick either. Understand or leave.
SPEAKER_00Which one do you want to pick?
SPEAKER_02Um, truthfully, I never wanted to agree. I never wanted to be here. Uh go and leave? Well, I would say yeah, leave.
SPEAKER_00I mean, after all that we've already been through, and as much as it's tried to like. No, no, no, no. As much as it's tried to let go of us, like yeah, realistically, I would say leave. Uh for story purposes, if you want to say understand, you may leave, you say.
SPEAKER_01The word hangs in the air like a dropped weight, and for a long moment nothing happens. Tilts his head as if considering a math problem, it doesn't like. Inside the house, the silhouette stopped moving entirely, the wind dies, and the farmhouse creak. Not like it's angry, but it's just disappointed. The fort the porch figure lowers its hand very well. The words ripple through space around you. The house begins to change, the port lights flicker wildly, then steady into a pale neutral glow. The front door opens slowly and then swings shut, but it doesn't slam. It closes like a curtain being drawn. The silhouettes inside begin to fade, not disappearing, but dissolving into the walls themselves, the like ink soaking into wood. Is it done? You don't answer because the ground beneath your feet feels wrong, not hostile, just shifting. The porch figure steps backward into the doorway, but it doesn't leave. It pauses, half in light, half in darkness. Leaving is permitted, it says. And a thin line appears in the air between you and the house, a tear, not a fabric of space, but continuity or of continuity. Through it, you see something else. A quiet road at dawn, no farmhouse, no force pressing in, an exit. The only stable thing you've seen all night. We go now, we don't look back. But before you step in, you feel it. A faint pressure at your back, like something standing behind you again, watching to see if you really leave. The Terran reality widens slightly, waiting. Do you step through and exit immediately? Hesitate and turn around one last time to confirm what was behind you. Refuse the exit. Something feels too easy about this. You guys are stepping through. Sure. I have a feeling you stepping like through. After all this, like you're really gonna turn around and be like, Yeah, I mean at this, I mean, sure.
SPEAKER_02It's a terrible reality. It's like, okay, how are you not gonna do it?
SPEAKER_01Just a sensation of being folded through something too large to perceive. Then silence, warm air, real wind, you stumble onto asphalt. Quiet rural road stretches out before you under the first gray hint of dawn. No farmhouse, no forest, no chapel, just an empty land fading into a morning fog. We made it, we actually made it. You turn around, the terror is gone, no portal, no glow, no distortion, just road and trees behaving normally, like nothing ever happened. But something is wrong in a quieter way. Your phone turns back on, it has a full battery, and a single notification appears. No sender, just a video file. Don't open that, but your hand is already moving, the video loads, and it shows the farmhouse from inside. The camera angle is fixed in a dark hallway, silhouettes stand perfectly still along the walls. The porch light figure steps into frame, it tilts its head and looks directly into the camera, not at the person holding it, at you. Its voice is calm, almost satisfied. You left this house. The camera shows slightly, revealing something behind it, a doorway, and beyond that doorway, a long empty road in morning fog, the same road you're standing on now, the smile the figure smiles faintly. We did not. The video cuts to black. You slowly look at each other. Tell me that's not where we are. From the fog ahead, something begins to take shape on the road, slowly, patiently walking towards you, and it knows exactly where you ended up. So. The end. It sounds like you guys got a ghost attached to you.
SPEAKER_02It sounds like a 50-50.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, it's kind of like, okay, did we die? We don't know. Did we live? We don't know. You know, I'll take a draw.
SPEAKER_00Are we just gonna be haunted for the rest of our lives?
SPEAKER_02Draw. Yeah, I'll take a draw.
SPEAKER_01We'll take a draw.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00That works. That was a long one. That was a very long one.
SPEAKER_01Oh, there. You guys just kept well, you guys kept running and bouncing around, and then it was like, hey, here's a thing.
SPEAKER_00We're supposed to go back and die.
SPEAKER_01No, I mean, I at a certain point I would have just accepted my fate, but I'm a survivor.
SPEAKER_00I grew up in a trailer park.
SPEAKER_01And then I saw. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's Destiny's Child. It's wrapper.
