Hello everybody, we're back with another episode of Hate to Rate. I haven't been pumping these out as much as I should, but that is about to change. I'm going through some uh stuff and getting stuff situated, and now I'll have some time to release some episodes, do some editing. Fuck my editor, he's a piece of shit. That guy needs to get a real job. But uh today we are gonna go through uh Seven Dusk, formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, where the lineup stayed pretty consistent for over 30 years they've been doing this. So let's look into this. Uh early formation of the band started off with the bass player Vince Vince Hornsby and the drummer Morgan Rose. And also I want to mention Lee Banks. They don't mention him as like one of the members, but I think he was in the timeline in between this band. So the first group was called Snake Nation in 1994, and they recruited John Cannoli, who originally was the drummer and went to guitar. So him and the other guitarists were in the band, and that was Snake Nation. They had a hard time finding the vocals, and then when they changed the name to Rumblefish, then they found LeJean Weatherspoon, and then eventually changing the name to Crawlspace. This is where Lee Banks left the band and replaced with Clint Lowry, probably one of my favorite guitar players of all time. He's been in multiple projects, including Cether. I know his brother is still in Cether. Eventually they had to change the name to Seven Dust, but before then, Crawlspace had a single appearing in the Mortal Kombat movie 1996, My Ruin was the name of the song. And then they changed their name to Seven Dust, finally, inspired by the band of Seven Dust. So they changed the sound and changed it back over My Ruin is now a Seven Dust song. Okay, let's uh step through the album, shall we? The first album, Seven Dust, Seven Dust Definitive Edition 1997, with songs on it like Black, Bitch, Terminator, Too Close to Hate, Wired, Prayer, Face, Speak, Will It Bleed, My Ruin, there's the Mortal Kombat one. Born to Die Breathe Bonus Schools Out Bonus Bitch Live Bonus Prayer Live Bonus Terminator Breathe Remix and Overrated Underrated Songs. I want to say I'm gonna say overrated would have to be either black or bitch. Underrated would have to be too close to hate. Too close to hate is such a fucking sick song. And School's Out, Alice Cooper. I didn't know that was an Alice Cooper song until I grew up and listened to the song over and over again and then oh the ending plays pretty much the school's outrift. So that was cool. Uh this record is a TVT records. And ooh, I finally got okay. The other versions are just distorted versions of the original track. It shows him like smoking a doobie. Green, all the all really good album for the first fucking banger. Um the songs I chose were Black, Bitch, Too Close to Hate, Face, Will It Bleed, Born to Die, Breathe Bonus, School's Out, Bonus, and I like the Terminator remix one. That one was pretty good. Added that one. And yeah, the band's just trying to get publicity in their own hometown and touring. Yeah, during the era of denial, they performed Woodstock 99. I did not know they were in Woodstock 99, but they exclusively toured with Corn and Metallica. I could see them open up for those guys. So the next album we have Home, 1999, with songs on it like Home, Denial, Head Trip, Insecure, Reconnect, Waffle, Rumblefish, Licking Cream, Grasp, Crumbled, Feel So, Grasshopper, and Blender. This is uh The Orchard Records. And the songs I added were Home, Denial, Course, Um, Reconnect, Waffle, Lick and Cream, Crumble, Feel So, and Bender. And overrated to underrated, I would say overrated would have to be denial. Maybe waffle. Denial or waffle, one of the two. Underrated, I would have to say either crumbled, feel so, or actually licking cream. Let's kind of dive in who was singing with licking cream. Because there was a girl. I did check out the video. The video was kind of weird. It was like this liquid blood almost uh coming out of their instruments when they're playing or singing, and the old guy in the building he was drinking it and stuff, and they're all happy to see it. The kids were running away from it, which was weird, but all in all, just a weird music video in general. I can see a 90. She's a British rock band singer. She goes by Skin, lead singer of a British rock band. Skunk and Nancy. Liked it. I did check out some of her music too, and she kind of had a stopping point around like the 90s to like late 2000s. She's more of an indies, like an indies. She has a few popular songs. Honestly, it'd be cool if they did another collaboration together. That would be really cool. And then this album, this band might be a two, two for her. I might get like an older album from them and then a new album from them. So this album, Animosity, 2001, with songs on it like T O A B, Praise, another good song that got him famous, Trust, Crucified, Xmas, Xmas Day, Dead Set, Shine, Follow, Damaged, Live Again, Beautiful, Redefine, and another one of their famous song, Angel's Sun. This was also The Orchard Records. And honestly, I'd pick this one as a vinyl too. This would be their old one that I would definitely pick. Then before we jump into their next album with seasons, I thought it would be worth mentioning. So LeJon's brother apparently got murdered, tragically shot and killed on Saturday, November 9th, 2002 in East Nashville, Tennessee. Regional was twenty three years old at the time of his murder. Uh LeJon frequently refers to his sudden loss as his deepest scar. A grief that heavily influenced Seven Dust music and continues to shape his personal life. Let's go in details on the murder. According to the police accounts at the time, Reginald pulled up in his vehicle onto Nelly Street in East Nashville around eight thirty PM and he met three unidentified young men. One entered the passenger seat while the other two briefly walked away. When Reginald made a U-turn and stopped at a stop sign, the other two individuals returned and joined the passenger in an open fire. Reginald later passed away at Vender Belt Hospital. So I was also hoping this wasn't a cold case, but 2002-489139 Reginald Weatherspoon. It is in Nashville's cold case files, so they still haven't found the shooter of Reginald. LeJon received the devastating news from his father just minutes before Seven Dust was scheduled to take stage for a concert in Saint Joseph, Minnesota. His father urged him to perform the show anyway, dedicated it to Reginald. Do the aftermath. Following that performance, the band immediately placed their postponed all scheduled tour dates until mid-November to support LeJon and his family. The trauma of the event altered the band's projectory and songwriting. The grief and emotional weight of Lalos heavily inspired the 2003 album Seasons. LeJon has spoken openly about carrying his pain with him, sharing that he prays to Reginald daily and feels his presence alongside him on stage and in interviews. He has noted that while the pain never completely goes away, it has fortunately made him stronger as both an artist and a person. So let's uh take a moment of silence for Reginald. Alright, seasons. Two thousand three with songs on it like Disease, Enemy, Seasons, Broken Down, Separate, Honest, Skeleton Song, Disgrace, Burnout, Suffocate, Gone, and Face to Face. Probably one of my favorite Seven Dust songs is actually Face to Face. Either that or Enemy. Damn. I didn't realize this was on this album, but the songs added were Enemy Seasons Separate Suffocate and Face to Face. Overrated to underrated, I would say overrated song would have to be Enemy. Underrated would have to be Suffocate, actually, that's where I'm gonna give that one to. And this was another Orchard Records. So around this time the lineup kind of changed. Clint Lowry's departure in the 2004 left and joined Dark New Day, and he was replaced by Sonny Mayo. So he's off doing his own stuff. So this album was out without Clint. This next album is called Next in 2005 with songs on it like Hero, Ugly Pieces, Silence, This Life, Failure, See and Believe, The Last Song, Desertion, Never, Shadows in Red. And the songs I added were Ugly Pieces, See and Believe. That's it for this one. This album was recorded by Rise Records. And overrated to Underrated. I'm gonna say overrated is ugly. I'm gonna say underrated is See and Believe. I'm gonna go for that for underrated. Then we have the next album is Alpha in 2007 with songs on it like Death Star, such a sick song, Clueless, Feed, Suffer, Beg to Differ, Under, Story of Your Life, Confession of Hatred, Aggression, Burn, Alpha, and Driven. Um Overrated Underrated. I'm gonna say overrated is actually Alpha. Underrated would have to be Death Star. That song. So sick live. I love their live version of it. But the songs I picked were Death Star, Feed, Suffer, Under, Alpha, and Driven Under. This one is pretty good too. This was Rise Records. And then in 2008, uh Clint Lowry does return back to Seven Dust and starts the main lineup for the band. I mean, they haven't really altered or changed much of their people throughout the band. I mean, mainly in the beginning, and then Clint Lowry, that's about it. So in 2008 we have Chapter 8, Hope and Sorrow, with songs on it like Inside, Enough, Hope, featuring Mark Timoli, Scapegoat, Fear, The Past, featuring Chris Daughtry, Pro Digital Sun, Lifeless, Sorrow, featuring Miles Kennedy, Constriction, and Walk Away. This is also Rise Records. The songs I added were Hope, Pro Digital Sun, and Walkaway. Overrated, underrated, uh Overrated, I would say Pro Digital Sun. Underrated, I would have to say Let's go with Walk Away. I kinda like that one. It's a slower one, but the lyrics are there in that song. Then in 2010, we have Cold Day Memory with songs on it like Splinter, Forever, Forever Dead, Unreveing, Last Breath, Karma, Ride Insane, Confession, Without Faith, Nowhere, Here and Now, The End Is Coming, Better Place, Strong Arm Broken. This was also a Rise Records. Overrated to Underrated. Overrated would have to be probably Splinter, I would have to say. Underrated would have to be Strong Arm Broken. That song's fucking sick. And let's move on to 2013 with Black Out the Sun. Songs on it like Memory, Faith Faithless, Tell Death, Mountain, Cold as War, Black Out the Sun, Nobody Wants It, Dead Roses, Decay, Dark A.M. Picture Perfect, Got Feeling, and Murder Bar. This is also Rise Records. The songs added were Faithless. Tell Death. Nobody Wants It. Decay. Got a Feeling. Overrated to Underrated. I'd say overrated would have to be Decay. Underrated. I'd have to say that one. And then we got Time Travelers and Bonfires in 2014. With songs on it like Coming Down, Under It All. The Wait, Upbeat Sugar, One Life, Bonfire, Gone, Denial, Trust, Crucified, Karma, and Black. This was also Rise Records. So this one was kind of a slower one, if I remember. The songs I added were Denial and Black. I kind of like those in acoustic form. Those were really cool. And overrated, underrated, I I wouldn't say there's any in this album. Then we go on to Kill the Flaw. This is the last CD I've ever bought from Seven Dust, I would say. This is uh 2015 with songs on it like Thank You, Death Dance, Forget, Letters, Cease and Decease, Not Today, Chop, Kill the Flaw, Silly Beast, Peace and Destruction, Torched, and Slave the Prey. This is also another rise. The songs added were thank you, Death Dance, Chop, Peace and Destruction, and Torched. Um, overrated to underrated? Uh I don't think there is, because Thank You is definitely an underrated song from them. Although I did do some research about their nominees and what they won throughout the years. Yeah, in 2016 for the best metal performance for the song Thank You from Kill the Flaw Grammy nominated reward was for thank you. It's fucking crazy. I would think they would have a lot more. But thank you is such a good song. This album is so positive. Like I was having fights with myself of even getting this in vinyl. Like this was probably gonna be my second one, but I changed my mind listening to their recent one. So the next album, they do not stop, they just keep coming. Is All I See Is War with songs on it like Dirty, God Bites His Tongue, Medicated, Unforgiven, Sickness, Cheers, Risen, Moments, not original, Descent, Life Deceives You and the Truth. This is also Rise Records. The songs added were Dirty, Medicated, Unforgiven, Risen, and the Truth. Umrated to Underrated, overrated would have to be dirty. Underrated would have to be uh I'm gonna go with medicated. Let's say medicated is underrated. And then we have in 2020 with Blood and Stone, Deluxe, with songs on it like Dying to Live, Love, Blood from a Stone, Feel Like Going On, What You've Become, Kill Me, Nothing Left to See Here Anymore, Desperation, Criminal Against the World, Alone Wish You Well, The Day I Tried to Live Dying to Live Jake Bowen Remix Kill Me Richard Wickinder Remix What You've Become Justin DeBleak Remix All I Already Know What You Are And This Was A Rise Records And the Songs I Chose were Dying to Live Blood from a Stone The Day I Tried To Live Dying To Live The Remix All I Really Know And What You Are So Overrated to Underrated I'd say Overrated Would have To Be I'm Gonna Go Blood From a Stone. That's One's Kind of Overrated Underrated Um The Day I Tried To Live, I would have To Say That One Was Kind of A Cool Music Video Or Day I Tried To Live. That was More of a Softer Song. Either That Or Dying To Live. Dying To Live was a Weird Music Vere All Fighting Over a Suitcase And they Looked In the Suitcase And Changed The Outcome Made Crazy Or Some Shit. Guy Was Dying. It was a really weird music video. Then we have Truth Killer in 2023 with songs on it like I Might Have Let the Devil Win. Truth Killer Won't Stop the Bleeding. No Revolution. Sick Mouth. Messenger, Love and Hate, and Fence. Which Fence was pretty cool too. It was a cool music video. It like continues, I think. No, I think it starts. It starts like it's like a claymation type of like chicken run type of thing. It's a cool music video. It's about like pretty much them playing a show, and then zombies or an outbreak of a waste comes in and they get eaten and stuff, try killing the zombies, but they become zombies. It's really weird, then they play a show. And I think it continues to another one. But the songs I added were I Mida Let the Devil Win, Truth Killer, Everything, No Revolution, Holy Water, Leave Hell Behind, Significant Drug, Love and Hate, and Fence. Damn, I actually added a lot on this one. This one fuck pretty close. But this was um Napalm Records handles GMBH records. And overrated to underrated. I'd say overrated would have to be I'm gonna go with everything. I think everything was a little overrated. Underrated would have to be I'd say fence. Fence is definitely underrated. Damn, this was a good album. I I don't know if I seen this one or their new one, and it'd be a hard choice to pick. But before we get into the next album, let's look into what Clint Lowry had to say about the recent album. So the fifteenth studio album, in an interview, Clint Lowry revealed that for the first time he gave glory to God before every session. During the writing process he credited the spiritual journey for his shaping of the record. He also states that I want to dedicate this record to my Savior Jesus Christ, the one. Make no mistake, there is there are songs on the record written to him, for him. Songs for suffering, hope, his glory, and his presence. Call it what you want. It's an offering to God. So basically he wanted to make this an offering to God. And honestly, that is great. That is amazing. That is a good offering, honestly. If I was God, I would say it's an amazing offering and what he had. So let's dive into one. Shall we? One uh just came out May first, two thousand twenty-six. Uh I was going to do these guys first on my podcast. It was gonna be my first episode for the season, but I wanted to wait for this album to come out. So I'm excited to do Seven Dust. So one with songs on it like one, Unbreakable, Is This Really You, Threshold, We One, Constrict, Bright Side, The Drop, Blood Price, and Misdirection. This was a napalm records handles GMBH, and the songs I picked were Unbreakable. Is this really you? Threshold, Constrict, The Drop, and Blood Price. Overrated to underrated, uh I can't say that, you know. This is just new. I don't think it really is an overrated to underrated right now. Um going through the music videos, Threshold continued fence. So in Threshold in the music video, same claymation as like a chicken run type of animation, but their manager wants them to play more shows, so they dig them up from the grave, and they basically play as like zombies. It's pretty cool. If you watch all the music videos, it makes sense. But yeah, that's good music video. Is this really you? That was kind of cool. It had the devil in a lot of the details. Unbreakable, that song just gets stuck in your head. So I mean, honestly, I'd pick this one as a vinyl two. I mean, if it's good enough offer for God, it is a great offer for me. Honestly, I would pick this one up too. So one and so this album, Animosity, that's the one I'd pick too. Um, really sucks about his brother that they haven't found the murderer, but I hope one day they do. I hope that cold case gets dug up and they find the murderer and give justice to LeJon and his family. There you have it. Uh, Seven Dust, I want to give a shout out to Chelsea. She's the one who offered this one, so shout out to you, Chelsea. Thank you for letting me do Seven Dust. I mean, I had a really great time. I mean, learned a lot about Seven Dust, their names, their original songs. They did have a demo as like crawl, crawl space, but it was the same old Seven Dust stuff. You can tell they were trying to find their music, and Clint Lowry just binds the band. Binds the band. Honestly, the main ones is like LeJon, LeJon Weatherspoon, of course, Clint Lowry, and the drummer Morgan Rose. Like they just hold a tight bond, which creates Seven Dust. What I'd like to see in Seven Dust is maybe do another featured with skin. Or do something out of your range. Do something more like new metal style. Like, I wouldn't say bring in Corey Taylor, but maybe bring in like the lead singer of all that remains, maybe. Like do something heavier, do something like that combats with your bass player, can or combats with your drummer, combats with the style you're going for. I don't know, make a heavier version of what you're going for. Honestly, they could honestly do another greatest hits. I did look at their live versions, a few of them, and they did cover uh Johnny Cash song. So that was kind of cool. Hurt, which was originally Nine and Snails song, but that was a really cool version too. That was a cool live version. They could do more covers. I would like to see him probably pop out more unique covers, I don't know. Maybe do a pop goes punk type of thing, I don't know. But they're on the right path, and it seems like they just love to tour, play shows. And it's crazy because I've seen Seven Dust multiple times, like seven times. I even bought their last ticket one time. I have a pink ticket. I think they played with Saliva. I still have that. The first time I seen Clint Lowry was when I went to Glendive, Montana and seen See there playing for the first time. It was one of his albums he had, one of my favorite albums by him was uh Poison the Parish. And he had Clint Lowry as his guitarist, and oh, that was the best show ever with him. And then uh a few years later, I seen him in Seven Dust with uh Static X. Actually, they were playing a show, Static X was headlining, and I did see all the members finally in Seven Dust. You know, it took him like seven shows for me to finally see Clint Lowry, and their setup, their playlist was phenomenal. Like these guys are so far from a sellout. Like they just put together their music, put together all their songs. They have multiple albums, like 15 albums. That is crazy. Usually they burn out bands burn out after like eight. I don't really have any expectations for Seven Dust. Honestly, keep doing what you're doing, and if you come close to my town, I'm definitely going to see Seven Dust. I think everyone should see Seven Dust at least once in their life. It's just a kick-ass show. It's you know, not a greatest hits. You don't go to them and they have a playlist of a greatest hits. They have like multiple playlists. Like, I don't think they've played the same set list like once since I seen them. Sure, they played their famous songs, I get it. But they rope in new ones, they rope in old ones, they rope in some deep cuts. It's they really care about their band. And I did read something about they were going to retire, but I think the guitarist was like going to cry or some shit. And before they were gonna make one or something, they were gonna quit, and they decided against it, which was a really good decision. Like, that is awesome. You guys should keep on rocking. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of Hate to Rate. I'm your host, Kyle Nelson, and I'll see you next time.
