Dr. Nicole talks about her Deficiency Theory:

Breaking this down a different way is what I try to do every day for patients. When we can understand that our body has a specific need of nutrients that is now able to be discovered with genetic testing to see a few SNPs you carry that tell us what your body will most likely do if in a state of stress.

Our genetics can tell us how we make or don’t make enzymes in our body. This information then can show us why you need vitamin D 3 supplementation the rest of your life, or probiotics the rest of your life to eliminate the deficiency of low vitamin D and a low amount of certain strain of biota in the gut.

Here is a list of ways I have seen deficiency show up in my clinic:

  • Genetic variant expression
    • absorption
    • utilization
  • Lack of nutrient needed in diet
    • using too much and can’t keep up
    • not getting enough in general
    • Medication induced deficiency
  • Too much of a nutrient in diet
    • Over consumption
    • Under utilization
    • over supplementation

When we talk about the reasons why we are depleted, we always have at least two causes. It’s like money. If you want to save money for something you have two options, cut down spending, or make more and don’t spend more.

The body is similar.

When we know our trends, symptoms, genetic variants, and current health. Discovering your deficiencies are simple. It is a mind set, look at your health through the eyes of this theory. What am i doing too much, what am I not doing enough?
