What's actually sitting on an animation production desk? Alexis and Natalie compare desk setups, from minimalist workspaces to the surprisingly difficult art of knowing when you've collected too many toys.
Hello all. Welcome back to another coffee break. I have had a theory over the years that you can tell a lot about someone by their desk. I know I might sound a little crazy, uh, but anyway, I've had a lot of desks over the years, either in a dark cave, by a window. My dream desk was always a hammock over the ocean, which would be really hard to type on a hammock, but wouldn't that be awesome? I have learned the hard way to never leave your laptop without locking it for fear of turning back on your laptop and seeing either anti-Boston sports trash talk, spiders. I just want to say to all those people out there, if you have an arachnophobic friend, don't send them photos of spiders. We don't need to see that. We're scared enough as it is. Or messages that come from your name that you didn't send with fart in the message. That one is actually kind of more recent. So anyway, let's compare desks. Natalie, what's on your production desk this week?
SPEAKER_00My production desk, and we mean like my physical work desk. It's so funny. I guess you could go like metaphysical desk. That makes no sense. I mean, because my brain went to my production desk at work. So if we're going literally, there's nothing on it. I feel like a bad animation person. There's some pens and a lot of post-its and a fidget toy. Nice. And that's it. I look like I'm in the witness protection program. I have a feeling you have a lot more stuff on your production desk. So now I'm curious.
SPEAKER_01Oh man. I will admit when I was working at a commercial house years ago, they were very strict about toys. And hearing you talk about your current dust situation kind of reminded me of that dust setup. I will totally admit to this. I've had to buy a storage container for all the toys I've collected over the past handful of years working in animation, working on the Lego movies. It was so much fun getting so much Lego during the course of the show, but you do end up at the point where you're like, I can't fit everything. So I do like to rotate my toys. Starting with Angry Birds 2, I got so many plushies. And I will say I'm very popular with my friends' kids, giving a lot of toys away as well. So I will just let me just quickly reiterate: I give a lot of them away. I do like to keep some. It'll be an interesting thing to see over the course of this show if I can expand your literal production desk with more toys. That's my goal.
SPEAKER_00I like it.
SPEAKER_01We would love to hear what's on your production desk. Bonus point if it's something really weird. Animation people, don't let me down.
