SPEAKER_01How's it going, Remembrancer? How are you today?
SPEAKER_04I'm well, thank you. I've got my boy uh Russell the Corgi in the room with me, just chilling, and we're gonna talk about some Dead Space. How's that?
SPEAKER_02Oh hell yeah. Hey, talking about the real religion, yeah. Yeah. Oh no, not unitology. Uh acceptable awesome uh crowd seemed real happy with how the first Dead Space episode went. So, I mean, listen, we were gonna have you back for Dead Space 2 no matter what. But welcome back, brother. Thank you.
SPEAKER_04It's a pleasure to be here. Um, and just so you all are aware, I did a bit more, I went a bit more in depth this time. I replayed Dead Space 2, I replayed Severed, I went through the graphic novel tie-in. I've got some DL uh DLC was severed, but also some spin-off games. So I did a little bit of cramming for this one, trying to make sure I had everything sorted. And this will be covering everything from a movie, a graphic novel, several games. It should be a blast, but I knew when I was getting through this, I sent a message to Shai like, this isn't gonna be two and free. We need to do them separately. There's no way. Otherwise, we'll be here for five hours and it'll take forever. Um, so just two and it's extended kind of material today.
SPEAKER_02At least with Dead Space 2, I vaguely remember some of what happened and some of the goriness and uh and all that. Dead Space 1, I remembered like none of it. None of it was ringing anybody else. At least with this one, I'll be like, oh, I remember that. I remember that boss, I remember eyeballs. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04I should mention before we get started with two though, there are a few things I wanted to clear up from the last episode, some little corrections or or little things that I mentioned were some things I saw in the comments. So one thing um last time I mentioned certain things that happened in the narrative, but my remembering was from Dead Space One, and in the remake they changed some things slightly. So, for example, in my original playthrough of Dead Space when it first came out, Hammond gets killed by a brute and he gets smashed against a wall. Whereas in the remake, it's it's uh Aidan Chen, one of your crew members, who he goes, Oh Chen, oh no, and he gets killed by him. Um so there are like some little narrative differences that maybe I've gone like from remake to one, remake to one during our previous discussion. So sorry about that, folks, but that's why you should play them both. Uh and again, I I hope you guys all download the remake because it's really good.
SPEAKER_02Um it would have been big if it's like, oh yeah, in the remake, Hammond survives. Oh he's still he still gets so.
SPEAKER_04He still gets kablooy. Well, he actually gets a more gory death, I suppose. I I don't know. One's more brutal, one's more gory. But either way, it's it's good fun. Um bit is he's dead.
SPEAKER_05He's gone, that's it.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Um, another thing is uh the marker technically didn't impact on Earth, it hitched a ride on the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. So it's a little moot point, but it's like, okay, clever marker getting on the asteroid. Look at you. Um something I found was fun, a fun comment that said, Oh, the necromorphs, they kind of when they transform, they boil in the skin, and there's like thermodynamics involved. So imagine the smell. Lovely comment. Um lovely is not the word I would use for that comment. There is a thing where like I mentioned in the previous episode that the studio used car crash photos for the and apparently in an art book that I'm not aware of at the time, they did debunk that this didn't happen. But what they did do, they bought a dead goat from a butcher, split it open for research, and then they accidentally flooded the Sims team office because their pipes burst because they were full of rotten meat, so that's fun. Uh game development folks. Good stuff. Good stuff.
SPEAKER_05Oh no. That is that is an insane, an insane thing. If you call the Sims team, I mean, wow.
SPEAKER_02Can you imagine being the plumber that's just like, hey, uh, so we we got a clog in our pipes, and we're really not sure why. Uh we think they burst somewhere in the walls. Can you check? And it's just like, oh, there why is there raw meat in your pipes? Why did you do that?
SPEAKER_04I'm not being I'm not being funny, mate, but this is the first time I found so many entrails in the pipes. Like, oh dear, poor fella.
SPEAKER_02Um brilliant accent for the plumber, by the way. That's all right.
SPEAKER_04I'm I'm not bad at some. I'm not bad. It's some of the uh, you know, English accents, some some up here, some up north. It's good fun, innit? Um and and one last thing about the previous episode, uh, not a single necromorph that you kill you technically kill because they never truly die. They just get immobilized. And when they die, they just kind of melt into goo and add to the corruption, which we'll briefly mention a bit later on in in what happens to the Ishimura, because we we remember we left that on a cliffhanger previous episode. Um, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Also, like how shall I talking about the Sims office flood? Do you think they called the cops to check it wasn't human meat?
SPEAKER_05I mean Oh, I I feel you have to, right? Unless you find a hoof or something, like you you're gonna have to.
SPEAKER_04I would have just assumed there was a guy on like a primal diet, and he's like, oh, what's all this? Some some Greg. Just Greg eating those like raw ham sandwiches again. Oh no, just a just like a tea.
SPEAKER_02Fucking liver king pipes, I mean.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say one of the guys a big liver king fan.
SPEAKER_04Picking fights with Joe Rogan, oh no. Um but before we talk about Dead Space 2, uh there are any uh questions you had that were lingering since our last discussion, or should we just get straight into it? Let's get straight into it. Okay. Well, uh before we talk about Dead Space 2 proper, I'm gonna mention the prequel that ties one and two together, which is a graphic novel called Dead Space Salvage. And Dead Space Salvage is a story that basically talks about a bunch of salvages who find upon the Ishimura. So just bear in mind that end of Dead Space One, just to do a quick recap, Isaac Clark escapes. Uh, he's practically the only survivor of the entire ordeal. He's seeing visions of his girlfriend, which he now know is is she's dead, and it's the marker messing with his mind. And from Earthgov and Unitology's perspectives, who were also involved, they've just got radio silence, they don't know what's going on, so they're going to intervene. So following the destruction of the Aegis 7 colony, uh, we've got Isaac Clark, he escaped, Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdoch. They also escaped before Dead Space One really got the ball rolling. So those are the only three survivors. And fun fact, Gabe and Lexine got married. Isn't that nice? Aw, we love Gabe and Okay.
SPEAKER_02I I I was gonna say the way you're talking, I'm like, this doesn't end well for either of them, does it? Like you're about to be like, oh, they got married, and then as it turns out, the marker made them kill each other, kill themselves, and uh it's awful, and now they're aliens.
SPEAKER_04Right. I'm just gonna uh put this up front. I am a big Gabe simp, not just because he's British, but because he's also like a badass, so like I'm just putting that out there. Um and we'll see, we'll talk about him very soon. Uh, but things are not too rosy for Isaac. He's captured by EarthGov. Uh they actually find the uh the ship kind of adrift near the Aegis sector. And um what they they do is they say, How about we just fabricate the Ishimura as a as a terrorist attack? No, no, there's no such thing as a necromorph. Uh, this is all the terrorism. Oh, terrorism did this. And so they start to falsify the events of Aegis 7. And for weeks, the Ishimura is drifting aimlessly in space. All the remaining necromorphs on board, without a marker signal, they melt into a meaty gloop and just kind of sit there. And I should mention the marker is destroyed, but there's still little fragments of it. So even with like a bit of a marker, uh like a splinter of a marker, there's enough of it to work with. Not as powerful as like a fully fledged built one, but a bit of a marker is better than no marker. And once the gloop has has settled, some illegal salvage teams, because there's always illegal salvaging in the dead space universe, known as magpies, which is like a fun term, like, oh, what do you call them? Magpies. I like it. Um one is uh on the is helmed by Captain and ex-Marine Jessica Lee, and she's aboard the Hunter's Moon. Now there's four teams of these salvagers. Team one is her and her lieutenant Stefan Schneider, engineer Wenbo, and pilot Forson. Team two, you've got Benedict Maliek, who's very important. He's ex-CEC and a unitologist. That can't go wrong. Uh they're on the ship called the Black Beak, and they also have he has crewmates who are Julia Copland, Ven Schiff, and Gothadier. Uh team three is captained by Gatura Okei, and he's an ex-commercial pilot aboard The Sunset with crewmates Jenna, Sanchez, and Polyak, uh Polyakov. And Team Four is the Liberte, which three unknown crew members captained by uh Belavin. So you're not gonna guess what happens to that ship? It's not gonna be very it's gonna be brief.
SPEAKER_05Let's say the first three unknown characters. These unnamed crew members sort of suggest that that ship ends up being not that important in the long run.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or it's not gonna be a long around for much longer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And um so Malik, he's having nightmares uh during the transit to the vigilus asteroid belt uh on the Aegis system. EarthGov have set up a s a blockade of the system, and the USM Victory in charge of the uh the operations, um, they're boarded by a uh a shuttle called the Skyrocket. And the Skyrocket is housing a government executive of the Defense Secretary, he's basically the Defense Secretary of Humanity. He's called David Chang. And while there are teams looking for the marker, they found Aegis 7, they're stabilizing the core, it's been hit by an asteroid, well, an asteroid, a bit of the planet that's been cracked, the crack has gone back into the surface, returned the crack, and it's done a lot of damage, so they're like stabilizing the planet because we need to try and gather what materials we can. There's not really much to work with. So we're just gonna be like finding what we can, and we're not really turning much up. And so they don't know where the marker is, they have no idea it's been crushed by this asteroid. And the magpies, they're like, oh, from our perspective, we've just identified near this system in the Aegis system, there's loads of iron, copper, vanadium, platinum, but this blockade, if we are found, we're in big trouble. Uh all of the crew members of all the ships have active warrants, so bear in mind these are not necessarily good people, these are like criminals. Criminals and reprobates who just like we just steal things, we we pill fur from from corpses, etc. And so the these characters are by no means good people. So don't worry too much about happens what happens to them in this uh graphic novel.
SPEAKER_02Um but uh I love it when the writer sets it up like that. Don't worry, they're all criminals. If they get eaten by something, it's okay, they're jerks anyway. Yeah, they're arseholes.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, and so basically um they muster around this thing called a shock ring. Uh Shy says, we call it a slasher movie. It's basically slasher movie, the um the graphic novel. And they're like, we're gonna use the shock ring in order to try and help us, you know, delve a little deeper, and then when we when we when we get news that the uh the blockade is lifted, we'll we'll get we'll cut and run. We've already got some stuff. And um just to give you an idea of like who they're up against, I'm gonna put a picture in the chat. Uh, this is uh this is Chang. He's got like the uh Starship Trooper's black trench coat kind of look going on. Yeah, like no one involved in this story is particularly nice, just to put that out there, front and center. And um, lo and behold, they're at the shock ring, and all of a sudden, the USG Ishimura appears. It translates, it's slingshot through the event horizon of the ring and crashes into the Liberte. Wamp, womp, there goes one of the Magpie ships. Uh-oh. That's so much fun.
SPEAKER_02Also, can I interrupt real quick? Is this whole book book done? Like, is this a comic book that all has this uh art style I see from from these pictures?
SPEAKER_04It's um sick. I don't know how you would describe it. It's a graphic novel style, but it's very um how would you describe it, DK? It's it's like it's kind of gritty, it's grimy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, I was gonna say it has this really gritty, grimy, grimdark feel to it. Like you just picked up like this dirty comic book, and it's just it's really cool. I really like the the vibe and aesthetic of it. Like when you said you read the book, I was like, oh yeah, this is just like a it's just words on a page. I didn't realize it was like this really cool, gritty comic book.
SPEAKER_05Um there's a kind of like abstractness to it with with the backgrounds, but you can see you can see brush strokes and you can sort of see the drawing process, but then the stuff in the foreground is like super detailed. It's really, really nicely done. It looks great. It's almost spoil painty to me.
SPEAKER_04Like the way the colours blend.
SPEAKER_02Do you guys know who Yonin Vasquez is? He did um he's popular for Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. And not that this is like that sort of like edginess, but it has that same sort of like gritty, dark like vibe to it. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I'm not familiar personally, but fair enough. I mean, I I wish more graphic novels and s and similar things had like they took a chance with us with an aesthetic and made it like, oh, this is how we look, rather than having a comic or an anime style. They're like, well, let's just do something a bit different. Why not? Like lots of lots of not bloom, but like a very nice colour palette with like a wash where it's not like a piss filter, it's more like an ocean filter I'd describe it as.
SPEAKER_02It's like lots of blue and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_04Definitely a blue filters over this thing. Yeah, it's cool. I like it. Um but back to the Ishimura. So this thing has been slung shot or slingshotted through this ring, and the drives are dead, so the magpies are like, wow, this thing is still moving, but if we attach our tethers to uh to it with our smaller ship and we like tug at it, we should be able to stop it. We should slow it and stop it because its engines are dead, it's just been drifting, it's just happened, yeah, it's just happened to go into the event horizon of the slingshot just while we were here. Of course, yeah. Sounds about right to me. Yeah. Uh no market influence there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what a quinky dink.
SPEAKER_04Quinky dink, yeah. Um, so the the magpie slow down the ship and they board it, and they're like, this thing has so much we could salvage. Like, this is the mother load, this is the Ishimura. We could ransom, and they're like, oh, yes, there's quarantine all over the ship, there's holes all over the hull because of what Isaac's been doing. Bear in mind the um, I can't remember the name of the ship, um, the Valor. No. Maybe it was the Valor, the the the military ship that blew up on the side of it that's left a big hole in it. There's obviously all the events from number one, there's asteroids, there's the big slug, there's the leviathan. So there's whole there's pock marks and holes all over it, but they're like, it's the Ishimura. I'm sure we can make some money off of this. Um they're like, maybe we could ransom it to the CEC, but then they're like, oh, we all have like a arrest warrants. If we talk to the if we talk to the CEC, we are going to jail, and it's going to be a really bad one.
SPEAKER_05Hey guys, uh we've got we've got we see come across the uh Ishimura. Do you want to do you wanna buy off us? I'm sorry, what's what's your name?
SPEAKER_04Also, fun fact, Shy has just posted, by the way, artist who drew this is named Christopher Shy. What are the odds?
SPEAKER_02What are the odds? That's awesome. As soon as I Googled him, God, all of his work is like that. Obviously, because you know that's but it's all in that stuff. It's great. Shout out to Christopher Shy.
SPEAKER_04Um big shout out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And yeah, the um the the crew are like, oh, there's corruption on the walls, and they don't know what it is, but they're like, it smells horrid. Um seventy they're like, let's scan this fleshy stuff. It's a 70% match for human compounds. Oh no. And they're like, oh, maybe when it's slingshot Hello Russell, maybe when it slingshot through the ring, uh the whole crew was like splattered against the walls and killed.
SPEAKER_02And it's like, no, I don't think that's no, this is it would be a lot more obvious if it was a slingshot. Oh damn, we all got smooshed against the wall, right? Like you would be able to tell that that's what the bodies endured, whereas these yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um and it's like they but then eventually uh uh one of the captains he finds a marker shard on the hole. So he goes like he goes like looking for stuff on the hull in a spacesuit, and he's like, Oh, look at all these shards here. That's strange, that's weird. Oh, these aren't like debris. This is some kind of like really strong, durable thing, and it's got these etchings on it. And then he takes it and he's like, Oh, actually, these are bits of a marker, I'm a unitologist.
SPEAKER_03Ha ha ha ha ha.
SPEAKER_04And the crew are going through the ship, there's radiate radiation all over the ship, it's fluctuating to like three to four sieverts, and then Captain Maliek he brings the fragments of the marker to the rest of the crew, and he's like, These are holy relics, no one touched them. And he's like, Hey, Russell, he's like, um, the EarthGov has quarantined the system to hide the marker's divinity, like they did back on Earth. They're doing it again. Obviously, surely this isn't Unitology's fault. This is this is EarthGov. They're the ones who are trying to conceal the truth. And um, he actually like one of them tries to touch one of these things, and uh Jessica does, and she's like, Hey, we should ransom these to Unitology, the church, and he just smacks her, like Maliach took a smack, and then a fight starts because he's like, Heretic, how dare you! We're not going to to to ransom these to the holy church of Unitology. So the rest of the crew they set up on him, they pacify him. They manage to find some records like of what happened on Aegis 7. Uh Copland, one of the crew members, she escapes the ship and she goes, I'm I'm done with this. I'm gonna go warn the blockade of the Ishimura's location because this is above my pay grade. And basically, she gets to the blockade and uh a small security team they actually interrogate her and we kind of come into contact with a brand new, I guess you could say, like, element within this universe, which are oracles. And oracles are specialists trained specifically to get rid of necromorph outbreaks. Um they are like very secretive, very shady, they're memb members of the EarthGov who are like any amount of money you need, any or for they're like Inquisitors from 40k to an extent. They're like they have the best gear, they are exceptionally well trained, and they can do whatever they want. Whatever they want done. They have like stasis tech that's more advanced than anyone else. They have these little laser weapons that kind of like they look like um, you know, like Star Trek phases, they kind of look like that to me, where they just go pew and they can just melt through armor. So they're kind of crazy. And they always work uh whack, they always work in pairs. And I'm going to put a little quote here about the the oracles. Would someone like to read this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sure. Uh they walk in white, untouchable by red. They order the living, they shepherd the dead. A finger's touch were frozen. And still, they are the answer, they are the will. Beyond the stars, the brethren wait. Oracles deliver us from humanity's fate.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05That is both cool and scary. Like that's your own little poem for sort of dictating who you are and what you do. On paper, rad. In practice, kind of terrifying. Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_04You know what it reminds me of a little bit? Um, in Warhammer, there is a little little poem about the flesh terrorists and say, here comes the red. And it's like all these people who've like made these like fables about these Astartes that just slaughter everything in their path. And it's like, you'll never see the sunlight again. Like, oh joy, yay!
SPEAKER_00What's the flesh terrorists?
SPEAKER_04Um I'm saying they are just double-O agents, literally with license to kill and shit. They kind of remind me of like Agent 47 from the Hitman series, but like that combined with shady governments and all sorts. They're like they're crazy. Uh but for the government, yeah. So they're they're they're they're like super duper um black ops. They're like uh is it section 37 in Star Trek? They're like, yeah oh, they don't exist, don't worry about it. That's uh EarthCov's slogan, as we remember. Don't worry about it. Um back on the Ishimura, uh Malik he surrenders completely to the Necromorph presence and uh he transforms the the kind of corruption just sets upon him, he he surrenders to it, and um the crew starts turning on themselves, even though the marker is in fragments, it still has enough pull to to to influence a few necromorphs, to orchestrate uh an incursion and to also mess with the crew members. And um unfortunately, uh Captain Jessica uh she gets she gets ganked by Maliek, who is now like a fully fledged uh spindly necromorph fella. Big shame. Also Forson turns up, he's also a necromorph. And what EarthGuff does, they they send a small security team and the oracles on their own accord go to the ship as well, and they are not coordinating with each other. So the oracles are just like ah we'll let the security blunder in. We don't care if they die, we have our own important thing to do because we know what's going on because we're oracles. So they they like they do not have any trouble getting rid of the necromorphs. They get their like laser pens out and they just say, pew pew, get out of here. And um they don't break a sweat, they're just like oh necromorphs, bang bang. It's like they've already speed run Dead Space 2 on Iron Man, they know the they know all the the exploits because of all that training. And um the USM Intrepid is the one that is full of the security team. They hail Schneider, who's one of the crew members, and they're like, hey, we can cut a deal. Uh if you give us the location of the marker, we can work something out. He's like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. And this this guy's like, he's a he's a he's a shifty guy anyway. He's like, oh yeah, come and meet me in the cargo bay. I'll meet you in the cargo bay, wink wink. He's not in the cargo bay, bear in mind, he's in the bridge. So the oracles are like, oh, we're hearing the transmission. Yeah, we'll let them die because who cares? They're just marines, we've got our own job to do. It's a double cross, clearly. Uh Captain Amos and the Marines, they board the cargo bay, they all die pretty much instantly. And the oracles locate the shards of the uh marker. They realize, oh, the marker's been destroyed. Bollocks. We we're here to get the marker, but the marker's, oh well, let's try and like salvage what we can. They try to pursue Schneider, he gets a spacesuit on, he he jumps through space, he does like a space walk. Turns out another hive mind is being built. So that turns up for one point, like, oh lol, it's the hive mind again, it's a new hive mind. Oh, that worked pretty quick. Oh no. So, yes, that's also a thing that's happening on the Ishimura. Great. And um, and the oracles eventually they corner Schneider and they're like, hey, give up. And he's like, I've got this button, I've got this little little trigger, I'll blow up the Ishimura, I'll kill us all. Because I can do that because I'm a magpie, and they don't know if he's lying or not. They're like, okay, let's talk about this. He's like, I'm going, I'm going to remote pilot the Ishimura to set course for the event horizon, it'll kill us all. And he's like, Don't, don't, don't shoot me, I've got this button. And they're like, You're bluffing, you're bluffing. He's like, Yeah, I am. So he runs away. Um it's actually expecting that to it. It's it's his, you know how I mentioned earlier they had like rad counters to like track how much radiation it's one of those, and while he's like backing away from them, he goes, beep beep beep. So like it's like, oh no, the game is up, the jig is up, it's a rad, it's a rad counter. So they hear that, and they're like, That's not an explosive device. Lol. So they try to chase him, he manages to flee, he manages to uh get into their escape shuttle and closes the door on one of the oracles' arm, like cutting his hand off. So he drops his gun, he drops his arm, and then they're just like, Oh no, there's a bunch of necromorphs here. Guess we're dead, so the oracles die. Uh, womp. Uh Schneider, he flees with their their ship, which is a stealth vessel. It's like the most advanced ship you can get in this universe, it's got stealth drives and everything. And he contacts the blockade and he goes, Hey, uh Sheng, you're the one Shang, you're the ones you're the one in charge. I'm getting out of here. Here's the coordinates of the Ishimura, do what you like, just leave me alone. You can't trap me anywhere on this ship, it seems pretty nice. I'm getting out of dodge. You'll never see me again in the franchise. Cool, bye, Schneider. Uh, he flees the system with the shock drives which are inbuilt into the ship. And when the EarthGov people get there, they remove the marker shards. The Necromorphs once again again dissolve into inert sludge once the uh the fragments have been secured and taken off the ship. Um the CEC and the EarthGov officials they commemorate the USG Ishimura. They say it was a terrorist attack, promise. Uh, it had a great service, rice in peace, Ishimura. But because of this, the planet cracking across the galaxy sees a rapid decline in productivity, unemployment is down 9.5%, loads of docks, ship services, mining suppliers, they are struggling. The CEC, though it's also having to lay off 30% of its staff every year, is now working as RD for the EarthGov, so that's fun. Um and also the Church of Unitology is losing recruits. Ooh, finally some good news. I was gonna say finally, geez.
SPEAKER_05It's demonstrably not worked well so far, the whole unitology thing. So that's that seems like genuinely good news.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And and so, meanwhile, because of the Ishimura incident is has had like I don't know about galaxy-wide, but all of the domains of humanity, it's affected everything. Because this is bear in mind, the Ishimura was the first planet cracker. This is one of the most important things that's ever happened in modern history. The fact that like the ship that like got us out of Dodge in terms of our resource problems has been hit by terrorism, apparently, and now it's dead. Oh, that's like a bad thing. And so people are losing hope, and they're like, wow, that was the Ishimura. I thought it was going to be decommissioned and have like a museum made out of it. I don't know. Um, tithes for Unitology are down. EarthGov is enacting slander campaigns against them because they kind of they can't say, Oh, we know what you did on Aegis 7, but they're like, let's try and cut them out of the heels, let's try and like do some slander campaigns to to make unitology look bad. Um, PR teams for Unitology on Venus Waypoint and Helio Pause Observer are doing their best to counter all of this smear campaign. And with all this said, before we get into the events of Dead Space 2, the Unitologists, despite all their woes, are preparing because there's a once-in-a-lifetime event just around the corner called Rebirth, and they're pretty certain it's been in motion before humanity ever set foot, not just in space, but got out of the primordial soup. They're going, hey, don't worry about it. Rebirth is just around the corner, guys. It's it's so close. Don't worry about the EarthGov, we're fine. Just keep praising Altman, everything will be fine. The time for ascension, the time for convergence is is nearly here. The officials are saying it's nearly here. Keep buying our books, keep buying our marker, um, you know, memorabilia from our gift shop. Don't worry about it. Everything's gonna be good very soon. And now begins the events of Dead Space 2. Have we got any questions?
SPEAKER_02So they're waiting for their version of like the Rapture almost. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's like Rapture 2.0, Rapture on Stanley.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, I was gonna say there hasn't been a Rapture 1.0, I hope.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like the Rapture with the more exclusive buffet in heaven, like oh yeah, the better buffet.
SPEAKER_02Because uh, if there's a Rapture 1.0, your boy missed it. Um that's not great. Uh but also god, the the the way they drew the xenomorphs, what is it, Christopher Shy? God, they're so creepy, and it's so good, and it's I mmm, I love the art in that comic. It's fucking phenomenal.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean I mean it's it's uh I've only shown you like a glimmer of it. Yeah. But there's there's like like uh you you can still find it uh online some places. I I can't say where, I'm afraid. Uh but you can find it.
SPEAKER_05Um see I was gonna say is it's still in print, but I'm assuming it's probably not. Um that just seems to be the way these things work.
SPEAKER_04You probably have to buy it on like eBay from a scout, not a scalper, like someone who just has a copy and it's like, I'll charge you a hundred quid or something like that.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, it is out there.
SPEAKER_04And it's uh it's about like a hundred um pages long, so it's like very little text, it's lots of pictures. We like pictures. Uh so Schneider finds Decromorse after arriving on Ishimura for a special mission, loses his crew, not driven mad entirely by the marker, ends up alone in a shuttle headed to somewhere. HTML, I heard that story somewhere. Hmm. Well, um again, I assume because the marker was broken up, maybe he didn't have much, and I don't think he had like direct contact with it. He was just like one of the captains. Um, so maybe it was just a case of like he wasn't exposed to it like too much. He was just like, hey, I'm just getting out of dodge. He he was also like a bit hands-off. I'm just saying it's kind of the story of Dead Space 1 again. Yeah. Um, but don't worry, Shy. Don't worry, we're about to talk about Dead Space 2, which is very I think a lot of people say this is their favorite in the trilogy.
SPEAKER_02Um fun fact, if uh if you're in America and you have access to Amazon, you can not only get the paperback version of Dead Space Salvage, you can get it on Kindle immediately for 15 bucks. Ooh. Or you can find it online.
SPEAKER_01Or you could do it your way. You could do it your way too. But if you know, I'm just saying it is available for legal purchase.
SPEAKER_04I didn't do anything. I'm not your mum, I didn't tell you what to do. I'm just saying there are other ways to find these things, and I'm not condoning or endorsing anything. I'm just saying it I'm just saying it's there. I'm not ripping off.
SPEAKER_05You're getting ripped off from the US. It's uh it is currently £5.99 in the UK for the payweight.
SPEAKER_04Total Brit British victory.
SPEAKER_02Well yeah. Yeah, I guess there's a first time for everybody.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Careful you careful, careful.
SPEAKER_02I'm out I'm outnumbered here.
SPEAKER_04I I I'm a cheeky sod though, because I'm from the Channel Islands. So I I'm like when it suits me, I'm like, hey, British is pretty cool. And then when it's cringe, I'm like, uh, British. So I I I flimflam side to side when it's I'm like that guy at the sports team where it's like, oh, it's the rugby teams. Like, who do you support? Who's winning? Like, yeah, that's that's what I do. Um but anyway, uh, are we all good for uh oh what should I say again? Uh it's kind of funny for me. Dead space for me follows Mass Effect structure, meaning first game comes out, it's popular, second game comes out more action-focused, a lot more popular, third game comes out, has some really good parts, but also ruins everything. And for me, with the same with Mass Effect, the first game of the series is my favorite, but Dead Space is yeah, I agree. Um personally, I love Mass Effect 2 the most out of that trilogy, but it has a very similar through line. And bear in mind, both EA games.
SPEAKER_02Oh, true. Also crazy that uh Shy's bringing up the Mass Effect. I mean, this isn't that that's not even a a a bricky jab this time. This is just eau de naturale, Shy. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_04Mill of it.
SPEAKER_02We do it. It's a great, it's it's it is it might be my favorite game franchise.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I've I think I've played the first one like 16 times or something stupid. Um Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I if if I want to play it again, I can't just start at Mass Effect 2. I need to do I'm like, oh, I feel like playing Mass Effect full trilogy playthrough. Yeah. I can't just start at two and just like, oh, I'll just use one of my old saves.
SPEAKER_05The thing it's it's not it's no it's no marathon though, is it? Sorry, Bricky.
SPEAKER_04Who cares about marathon? Isn't that an old game? That's for old heads. It's like, oh, my granddad's video game. Oh halo for the win. Um anyway, are we are we all good for Dead Space 2 events?
SPEAKER_05Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. Okay. So back to uh back to Isaac. So Isaac is recovered from uh from a patrol ship that is just going through the Aegis system when they're trying to find out what's going on with um the loss of because bear in mind they sent like a a military ship and it just disappeared and they're like, oh that's not good. Let's find them. Don't find them, they find Isaac. And they place him in a stasis chamber for his own safety, and he's taken to Titan Station, also known as the Sprawl, which uh which is basically what surrounds Saturn. So we're in the soul system. And Titan Station was the site of the first ever quote moon harvest uh of humanity during 2440. And essentially this was a prototypical version of or prototype of what would become planet cracking, where they said, hey look, Saturn's moon's got a lot of resources. How about we just harvest the entire moon? We'll leave a little bit of it and make a station out of it. So that's what they did. They just they harvested the moon, there's no moon of Titan anymore, it's Titan station. So when you look at the artwork, it's like this um it's like a big block of rock with a bunch of stuff stuck to it. Uh it reminded me of something, but I can't remember what it was. Um obviously there's like I think event horizon alien vibes to this this particular game, in my opinion, but it's obviously more advanced tech than alien. It's a bit more like uh Oh, the station is great, guys. Don't be don't buy anti-earth gu uh gov propaganda. Oh yeah, the the uh the pictures that Shai sharing of like the nurseries and all that stuff. Oh, it's lovely. Oh, we love to play the space.
SPEAKER_02It's it's definitely oh no, the the nursery specifically. I'm just like I I remember that.
SPEAKER_04We're gonna get there.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna get there, DK.
SPEAKER_04We're gonna get there.
SPEAKER_02Is um in in Dead Space, is are any of the other planets inhabited besides Earth? I don't think so. Like it's not like destroying the moon and making a space station out of it is directly affecting the population on not Earth, right?
SPEAKER_04Is Saturn Well the the moon, what's left of the moon is inhabited, but like Saturn, I guess couldn't really set down on it. I don't I can't remember which ones is Saturn a gassy planet or is it a rocky one? I can't remember. You're asking the wrong guy.
SPEAKER_05I feel like it's a rocky one, but it's not sustainable. But I could be c I'm just gonna Google it. Well, it's also a distant joint. Yeah, thank you, Shy.
SPEAKER_04I thought it was a gassy.
SPEAKER_02So it's like we're also in distant future tech, so I'm not sure if there was like a oh yeah, we made uh MacGuffin that makes gassy planet inhabitable, just live in our space livable bubble city or something, you know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It's like it's like that that endless space read by uh review by Seth Seen type. It's just like, how do we uh colonize a gas giant? Very carefully. But it's um Yeah, the say the Saturn is is pretty bad, as you say. Uh they don't have terraforming. So it's literally like, oh, the moon will do, nom nom nom, hungry, hungry hippos. There goes the moon of Saturn. Yeah. There goes Titan. They're not like colonizing places. Yeah, it's like, sorry, Destiny players, no more raids on Titan, womp.
SPEAKER_02Um, players are used to content getting cut.
SPEAKER_04Poor fellas. Um so what remains of of Titan is now this station. And considering all the problems that have been beset by the loss of the Ishimura and all these job losses, actually Titan Station is doing pretty well. Profits are up, despite the CEC's blunders, and Titan Station, bear in mind the Ishimura had a career of about 1,332 people. Titan Station has a million.
SPEAKER_00On wheat.
SPEAKER_04Oh Jesus, that's I've got another quote for you if if one of you, I guess, Kiriov, would you like to read this one? This is uh this is a quote about the sprawl, aka Titan Station.
SPEAKER_05With the advent of large-scale applications of Gravitron control, it became clear to the mining consortiums that they had a new tool at hand. Shockpoint drives were in their infancy, so extra solar mining was out of the question, and the dangers of planet cracking were still unknown. Saturn's moon Titan was selected as the site of the first moon harvest, as it was known back then. Saturn was as far from Earth as the consortiums were willing to work and still have reasonable access to timely supplies and support. A large colony was established on Titan to study the Moon's every seismic detail and prepare it for disassembly. As the operation got underway, the orbital platforms that assisted with the work became the prototypes for the planet crackers that would soon follow. Titan was successfully cracked and harvested, only slightly behind schedule. It was a major boost for the then beleaguered population on Earth, who believed their extinction from lack of resources was imminent. Titan's harvest was halted before the entire moon was disassembled, leaving the small shard where the original colony had started. From here, the station grew in leaps and bounds as the new era of planet cracking got underway, serving as both a critical research outpost and with the advent of shock point drives, a way station for all planet cracking missions going forward. It is now whimsically known as the Sprawl for having done just that over the many years of its operation. And that's from the United Spacefaring Guild history series Titan Station Conquering a Moon. Using the words disassembly in reference to a moon is wild.
SPEAKER_04It's not Nike a chair. It's like, no, it's a moon. Yeah. Disassemble. Fair enough. Um make sure you nail it like so it doesn't fall on your kids.
SPEAKER_08Oh no.
SPEAKER_04Um it's it's it's that thing of like um you can see the little planet cracker parked there for scale. Yeah. Oh well that that comes up later on, Shy, actually. It's it's a very specific planet cracker. Um, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yeah, that that station.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I mean, I guess the station has to be that massive anyway. Sorry, go ahead. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, and and bear in mind, like as you just mentioned in that quote, Kiriov, it's like a funnel. All planet crackers go through Titan Station to get to the wider galaxy. So this is where everything goes, it diverts to. So losing this would be a real big problem.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, um I know authors who use foreshadowing foreshadowing. They're all cowards.
SPEAKER_04Um and it's like Titan Station is split into two distinct sections. So you've got the public sector, and you've got the government sector. Guess which one's nicer? And um for three years.
SPEAKER_02You never believe.
SPEAKER_04No, the one with all the nice defensible positions and shady things going on. Uh but for three years, so bear in mind that the time lapse between one and two is three years. Isaac is treated within the sprawl, within their medical centre. Earthgov needs Isaac alive as well as any other survivors of these incidents with the necromorphs in efforts to make a new marker because their minds hold the key to building them. And so Isaac, at this moment, just to give you an idea of what he's going through, he's exhibiting signs of obsessive obsessive, compulsive behavior, repetition of phrases in reference to the markers, he's frantically scribbling on the walls, he still sees the ghost of Nicole blaming him for her death. He's having paranoid outbursts, he's having insomnia, he's attacking staff members. Isaac is not having a good time. And um within Titan Station, there is a site called Site 12 within the government sectors, very heavily defended, very well protected. They are building a replica of the red marker from Aegis 7 during 2508 as part of a project called Project Telomere or Telomere, and it's enormous. If you thought the marker from uh Dead Space 1 was pretty big, this this one's like 10 times the size, it's enormous. And this is overseen by uh Forced Edgers, who is very briefly in the beginning of the game. He's the one who goes, We're all gonna burn for what we did to you, Isaac. Um and basically the best and brightest of Earth's minds, whether they're involved in Site 12 or not, they've all concluded unanimously without the markers, humanity. Is doomed to die of scarcity. It's growing too much. We've lost the Ishimura. Profits are down. There's no way we're just going to scrape by cracking planets. Because again, we've done all the ones that are surrounding the soul system. More planets are going to be further afield. They're going to take longer to get to, longer to get back, we're all going to die out unless we can use the markers to bring us salvation. And the uh the the site where they're building the marker is overseen by a man called uh director Hans Tiedemann. And to give you an idea of what Tidman's like, here's another quote. Uh would anyone like to read this little quote about this fella, Mr. Tidman? Sure.
SPEAKER_02There are people, even some of my own staff, who say I am a monster for what I brought to this station. They say the marker is manipulative, that it influenced my decisions. They don't understand that what I did, I did for this community, for our species. Titan Station was a dead husk before I breathed life back into it with government research grants. The research into unimaginable sources of energy, into manufacturing techniques and efficiencies far beyond all previous understanding, is the only hope that remains for mankind. We have relied on destructive planet cracking for far too long, and now we can no longer sustain ourselves. We need the markers to survive. If we fail in our efforts to understand them, there is no hope left for humanity. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_05Just out of I I I just want to I I might be misremembering or or failing to remember from from the first episode, right? There's there's been some some talk of you know the markers being the saving grace, the evidence of you know alien life, etcetera, etc. You know, the markers hold the key to survival. Have at any point has anyone suggested exactly uh how the markers would be used to save humanity, or is it more that the fact that they exist has been enough for people to be like, look at this, it's proof that there is oh yes, that was thank you, Shark. Yes, no, no, like it's infinite energy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's again like how like you can't like that first law of erod um thermodynamics, you can't make energy have it has to be redirected, and somehow these markers are generating enough energy to to r to possess dead bodies and reanimate them. There must be something we can use from that. So I guess that'll do. Um and also I love this poster of uh director Tidman. On one side it says a helping hand, and on the other, courage, compassion, stability. Oh lordy lord. What a nice fella. Also, his granddad was also in charge of Titan Station, so he's a bit of a Nepo baby, and he's all like, ah, this says this station sucks, but now we've got the marker, we could bring it back to the good old days where we could make it a powerhouse of industry and it's order and yum yum yum, I'm a good man. And to be fair to Tidman, his his entire outlook on the game is trying to fix the problem. And so he's like, Well, we definitely need a marker or we're going extinct, but I'm going to try and contain it, I'm going to try and monitor it, I'm going to try and make it. Like, you'll you'll see more about his character's development as we go, but he's also like the one guy in the room who's like, I can do no wrong, I know exactly what I'm doing, which is dangerous. Um I says, guys, I'm not addicted to crack, I just need it to survive. Wow. Yeah, pretty much. That's the uh the marker right there. That's the uh draw of the marker.
SPEAKER_02What other options do they have besides the potential infinite energy of the marker? Well, and just you know extinction. Like that's it, right? You kind of have to roll the dice and hope that you can actually contain this thing, because otherwise it's just like, yep, humanity's dying out. Yeah, it's so it's that or those images. Might seem like a bad idea, but it's the only idea.
SPEAKER_04Um it's it's like that, you know, those images from the previous episode where it's like the guys putting the gun with the arrow on the face. It's like, yeah, that's the that's the other solution. Like, yeah, we're gonna have to start doing that kind of stuff on a mass scale, that won't be fun. Yeah, let's try the markers, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's it's sort of like kind of looking looking in from like uh the perspective of just where we are versus where they are in the setting, it's kind of easy to go, you just gotta take the L man. Like it it's clearly not working out, it's not uh going great, but realistically, you would do whatever it took, even if it was something that was clearly, clearly bad times all round and really bad news. You would still be like, Well, okay, this is potentially absolutely awful, but the alternative is arguably worse. So I just didn't refine it on it.
SPEAKER_04I just like the idea that Kerry Office is saying, It's time to put grandfather in the kiln. He's 50, it's his time.
SPEAKER_05Take the L granddad.
SPEAKER_04We only have so many resources. Off you go. Um, also Shai saying, how about we build some nuclear power plants? Not not an option. No, we're building an alien madness artifact. Okay, just asking. Um, I I assume there must be something in the setting where it's like, yeah, we've exhausted nuclear power, efforts for fusion, whatever it is, they must have done because the the suits they have are very impressive. They have very good technology. They obviously can't do anything else of it. They must have exhausted all options.
SPEAKER_02Um I was gonna say, surely if there was another option besides the markers, they would have taken it. Although, I mean, once the marker gets in your vicinity, it kind of brainwashes you and they'll probably be like, hey, come on, I'm not so bad.
SPEAKER_04Chill.
SPEAKER_02Trust me, I'm way more efficient than than nuclear energy. And y'all guys, give up on that. It's done. Your planet's done. Believe in the marker, believe in the me that believes in you.
SPEAKER_05It's fine. I am a great idea. Yeah, you shouldn't.
SPEAKER_04I'm so wholesome. Make me whole. I'm wholesome.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, make me whole. Hello, humanity. Good idea here. Start listening to me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Oh, is that um is that is that a t-shirt? Just a Pedro marker with I'm a great idea on it.
SPEAKER_04Is that what that's I I think what you need to do is do a merch design of a marker and just put wholesome chungus. There you go. You can have that one for free.
SPEAKER_02Um, it's gotta be something like have a wholesome day, or yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um Isaac is the one like they basically have a bunch of patients. They have about five patients who have all been exposed to the marker, and he's the purest of mind, he's got the least corruption, he's the most stable. And uh there is another uh just to give me no here, here's a picture of his cell, he's scribbling on the walls, he's scribbling on the walls.
SPEAKER_02Oh boy.
SPEAKER_04Is that really the blue is that really what Isaac says the blueprint for the marker is and um basically there's another guy called uh Nolan Stross, and Stross is one of the characters in the uh the movie Dead Space Aftermath, where we see what happens to him and his and little background on Stross. Um Where do we begin? So they're both going through a lot of dementia right now, but they're seeing things and Stross is hallucinating and grieving for the loss of his wife and infant son, who he killed. And Stross did this because he was involved in a necromorph outbreak, and he kind of hallucinated that his wife and child were necromorphs, so he killed them. Oh no, that sucks. Yeah, and uh this was during his posting on the the USG O'Bannon in its mission to acquire fragments of the free A marker on Aegis 7. So after the magpies, he was part of the recovery team to try and get the fragments from Aegis 7, and that resulted in an outbreak during 2509, so a year after the first game, I believe it is. There was another outbreak. Oh no, we keep doing this, we keep doing this. And um, unfortunately, uh he was mentally scarred from this. Uh, the USG Abraxis of the Earth Defense Force destroyed the Obanon to stop the outbreak. They recovered four survivors, including Stross. There was an ex-Marine Nicholas Kuttner who escaped his interrogation cell and killed himself. Um then you have engineer Alejandro Borges, he was freed and then shot by the guards. And Chief Medical Chief Medical Officer Isabel Cho. Um, she was taken to Titan Station, but then she was labelled as a terrorist responsible for the events of Aegis 7, and then she was incarcerated, and we never see her again. She was a scapegoat.
SPEAKER_02What fun! Um just so many happy endings to be found here. Oh, yeah. It's just incredible. I just I'm just full of hope and wonder.
SPEAKER_04Dead Space is wholesome chungus, make us wholesome chungus. And um basically the the medical staff they realize, oh, we need to make this device to integrate with the uh the marker. And so they create this thing called the Noonlight Diagnostics Machine, which stimulates the lateral geniculade nucleus within the brain, where the marker stores its secrets. So the marker is a piece of science in a way, there's a specific place where it stores all of its blueprints and information. And they eventually realize, oh, we can build a marker layer by layer using like the equivalent of like Uber Duba 3D printers, and they'll make it like nigh-on indestructible. We use these like you you you run into one during the the the like last chapter or two of the game where you see it just like these lasers spinning around, and it'll cut you in half if you're in the way of it, but it is making a marker, because of course it would. Um but all that said, um Gabe Weller, best boy, love Gabe, Gabe's my favourite. Uh he becomes a security officer of the rank of uh sergeant, and he's also funnily enough on Titan Station with Lexine, and they got married, good for them. Um fun fact, Lexine and uh and Gabe, they have a baby on the way. Oh, good for them, they're having a baby, lovely.
SPEAKER_05I know where this is going and I hate it. It's just uh to see it from a mile off that just pleasant.
SPEAKER_04You might be surprised because Gabe ain't no bitch, he's a good he's a good lad. Um so Lexine gets pregnant with Gabe's child during 2510. And prior to the events of Dead Space 2, Titan Station is undergoing a lot of strange phenomena now that they're building a marker deep within the government building. So patients within the medical ward are becoming more aggressive. They're having to use more memory erasure drugs to stop them from like lapsing. They're also biting a lot of the staff, which isn't good. Uh, children in the nurseries of the ship are becoming aggressive and hitting each other to the point where they have to be taken to the infirmaries, and also they're drawing scribblings of like monsters and seeing, quote, imaginary friends in the form of their past relatives. Uh oh. Oh no.
SPEAKER_03Kids are wrong.
SPEAKER_04I I like this picture here as it's like the the Ghibli with like a pink guy with arms like da-da! Like, oh no.
SPEAKER_01Hooray!
SPEAKER_04Look at his um and uh the events of the uh the infestation kickoff in the game uh Dead Space Sabotage, where we play as Carrie Norton, a unitologist, and she's given a secret mission by the church to activate um well a little bit of backstory. Uh she's a colony ship person, she's never been on Earth or any other planet, she's always been on ships her whole life. She um was basically the perfect pawn of the the church to manipulate. And so she has a contact called Tyler Radakov, known as simply the Russian, and he manipulates her to sabotage Titan Station's government sector, and she gets the code name code name uh Vandal because Dead Space sabotage her code name is Vandal, and um she sabotages a bunch of power boxes throughout the core systems. This is a mobile game, by the way, and uh she cuts off communications and also cuts off power to crucial parts of the sprawl. Now that sounds like a good idea. She basically allows the Site 12 site to activate the Necromorphs, begin an outbreak on Titan Station, and eventually a high-ranking uh member of the station's Unitologists, uh Diana Dana Le Guin, she promises Carrie, Oh, don't worry about it, we may have manipulated you, but you'll be remembered, we'll martyr you. Good job, Lassie. And um and because she's British, she's obviously evil and the worst person in the world. Um, so there is that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05As is traditional. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh but then she's also contacted by Tideman, and Tidman's like, what did you do, you silly Billy? All right, uh, and she's like, Oh, I'm so sorry, I I didn't know what I was doing. I uh let me fix it, let me fix things like okay, I'll work with you. Fix these problems, you gullible lassie, uh, and and ignore Unitology's orders. So she goes and restores power to the crossover tube station. Radakov also contacts her. It's like I'm so sorry, I didn't know. This is my best, I didn't know what was going on. I'm the Russian, ho ho. Great impression. Close enough. And um, yeah, yeah. Bratan. And it's like, okay, uh, I'll give you a chance to escape within the mines, promise. So she locks down the sprawl, contains the threat, and then she gets to her objective, and lo and behold, uh she's also being manipulated again. The Russian was tricking her, Tyler was tricking her, allowing the necromorphs to reach the public sector and begin massacring all the civilians. Joy of joys. And um she makes her way to the reactor to try and prevent a meltdown of the station. Cool is a massive gribley. Uh, she's wounded by the gribely and she likely dies, but she has prevented the station from completely melting down. Um, meanwhile, within the mines, Gabe Weller, the the coolest person in the world because he is British and therefore a good person, um he carry off. Um he and Bravo team uh the security forces of the station, they're attempting to stem the initial signs of the necromorphs. And fun fact, when you play as him in the seventh DLC, he reloads quicker, he's faster on his feet, he's just better Isaac. He's just like Isaac is cool, but Gabe is like a soldier. He's he's just and the DLC is just like a very short couple of hours, lots of necromorphs, lots of variety, couple of guns, just a bit of fun. And he's the lone survivor of his team, he warns Lexine to hide. Titan security forces are purging the patients to a site 12 to try and tie up loose ends. And his old superior officer, Colonel Victor Bartlett, is like, sorry, Gabe, we're purging all the key subjects. Tiedeman says so. I'ma go kill your wife. Like, oh no, don't do that, Vic. Please no. Meanwhile, um, as all the mayhem is going on, and bear in mind, like, Dead Space 1 is like a post-incident where you get that you get there at the tail end of once the massacre is finished, more or less. Two is interesting in that it's like you were there from the onset of the infestation, so it's a bit of a different experience. Um, but uh Isaac wakes up at the beginning of Dead Space 2 within the asylum, he's freed by the protagonist of Dead Space Ignition, Franco Delisle. Franco's not a nice fella, he's a unitologist and an engineer, so it's like, what if we made Isaac but worse? And um he's assigned by Dana, who we saw before, the evil British one, because again, all British people are either the best people ever or terrible. Gabe and Dana proved the the theory. Uh, and basically she says, Hey Delisle, can you go free Isaac Clark from his confinement? We need him because he has all those bits of like marker stuff in his brain. And he's accompanied by a lass called uh Sarah Anderson, who's a uh CPD officer of the station. They're both under orders of the uh the main guy in charge, Weaver, to basically help security forces across the station to you know install lighting again, recover some like seal off some chambers of the station. Like it's a puzzle game with like within it's a weird game. It's like Dead Space Dead Space Ignition is like here are some like Bioshock style like puzzle segments, and then every so often there's a cutscene of you running from Gribblies, it's quite fun in that regard, but it's it's very one node, so it's like not worth more than a couple of quid, but you might as well play it if you like Dead Space, why not? Sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Also, her hair is weird. I know that is a completely vain thing for me to say, but her red hair is odd. It's like long, but not it's like kind of long, but like thin and it's it's weird.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's thin and odd looking. The lengths uh that is essentially what a child will do if you leave them unattended with scissors at a certain age.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying Sarah cuts her own hair, leave her alone. She's fine. She's cutting her own hair, times are tough. Have you not seen the unemployment?
SPEAKER_02Oh the mirror.
SPEAKER_04She's on the clock. She's on the clock, DK. She's at work.
SPEAKER_01Give her a break. Just let it grow out, man. Just let it grow.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, um, now because it's a uh branching paths game, there are different ways this can go, but in all of them, Sarah dies. Uh, either by Delil killing her intentionally or her or letting her die. Uh, because in one, she suspects his ulterior motives working for the church, uh, but and so he just kills her. But she can also die due to a suit rupture in space during a spacewalk section, or she can die by being locked in a room by Delisle as she's torn apart by Necromorph. So she doesn't have a good time any of these ways. Um bear in mind that's her dying from necromorphs after trying to save his life, holding the line, he just goes, What cut uh close the doors by last-what? Fuck him, yeah, yeah. Uh, but he manages to find Isaac and the beginning of Dead Space 2, you see like some interrogation of Isaac, and you actually see Delisle as like the first victim of the outbreak. And he's that infamous scene where like he goes like Isaac, Isaac, you're in terrible deja, and then he gets hit by an infector, stabbed in the skull, and transformed while he's holding Isaac, and he like is right in front of his face and his skin falls off, and it's like very gory. So it's like oh, rip bozo, get what you deserve.
SPEAKER_02Um I I vividly remember that part because it freaked me out. So I uh my first death was like that because I was like, what the fuck? How are you what's what you get thrown like right into the fire, no weapons, it immediately wants you to like avoid the Z. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And um, but but the good thing is Isaac's awake and Dana contacts Isaac and is like, run, Isaac, run, you've gotta get out of there.
SPEAKER_08There's lots of Gribly boys.
SPEAKER_04And um, yeah, so the so the they were just showing off with the opening though. It was like, hey, do you want to see a Necromorph transform right in front of your face? Why not? Cool guys, thank you.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely horrifying. Like unreal, how gross and just awful that is.
SPEAKER_04And to be fair, Isaac just headbuts him like, yeah, that's my boy. Good job. Get that guy.
SPEAKER_05This is nothing new to Isaac. I think it's like a cut come on, man.
SPEAKER_02Get out of the face. Did we say it was Dead Space 1 or Dead Space 2 that had the uh ad campaign where it was just uh a bunch of moms? Yeah, it was Dead Space 1. I hate it. Your mom's gonna hate this game. Your mom's gonna hate it. I wasn't I I couldn't remember if we talked about it and if we said it was one or two. I thought it was two.
SPEAKER_04Oh, maybe it was two. I I just remember the ad. I just remember like the ladies' faces rather than the footage they used to scare them.
SPEAKER_02It was just like there's one lady just like, oh yeah, oh yeah, it was absolutely a cringe campaign shy, but I just I remember that Dead Space 2 was so gory and that was like all part of the marketing was like, it's so gross, your mom's gonna hit you.com or something. And yeah.
SPEAKER_04EA bringing out the worst in every good game they ever pushed. Yeah. It is Dead Space 2. They're just like the blemish of trying to wipe off like, get off. This was such a like like this is like the fly on your sandwich. Like, get off. I was really gonna enjoy that, but you've put me off it now. I'm gonna put in the big gourmet sandwich too, and it's just like, oh man, yeah. With gourmet with the olive. Oh, very good. Gourmet. Nice one, curious. Love you. Fine, fine. Love you for that. Leave now, shall I? No, you're fine.
SPEAKER_02No, I've said worse plans than that. Don't worry, you're fine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, but yeah, Dana also apparently Dana is Australian, so she's obviously more evil than a British person. So thank you, Shy, for clearing that up.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, whoa. I don't know about that. I'm wrong with love. Sorry, Australian. Sorry. Australians use seasoning on their food, so uh hey, that's an outdated stereotype.
SPEAKER_04I know. Really? National standard for the UK's most favorite dish is cheat uh chicken tika masala, I'll have you know. That's the favorite. So we got some spices going on. Um I say we, I mean they, I mean me when it's convenient.
SPEAKER_02Um don't worry. Next time it comes up, I'll bring up uh a teeth or something just to really hammer home the old stereotype.
SPEAKER_04Lovely teeth. Never had denture. Um so Dana is like, hey Isaac, don't worry, I'm not a uatologist, promise. I'm just gonna help you get through the game for like the first quarter or so. And um Tiedman, while this is all going on, is like, this picture I think is perfect. It's just like, hmm. Oh no. To give you guys who are listening, the slogan is whatever it takes. And he goes, I'm enacting martial law. Lol. Yeah. He wants to slow down the outbreak. He knows the government sector will be fine. He's just worried. He's like, I'm going to try and evacuate the city evacuate the civilians. And EarthGov actually ordered him not to do so, but he does anyway. So like he's not a total dick. He's just mostly a dick. He also orders a gunship to track Isaac and another to track Gabe. So one is trying to kill Gabe, one is trying to kill Isaac at the same time. Gabe manages to fight his way to the Memorial Medical Center. Isaac ventures to the church at the same time. Within the medical facility, Gabe is like, oh, this is all pretty terrible. And there's actually a bit where you can see a wanted poster of both Stross and Isaac, who have both escaped, branding them as fugitives from the law, considered delusional, dangerous, and basically convicts. Like, oh, you kind of made a lot of that stuff up, guys. Uh that's not nice. Don't do that. No. Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes.
SPEAKER_05To be fair, in in Isaac's case, given the horrible time he's been having, I don't know that delusional and dangerous are inaccurate descriptors. Yeah. Because he's not he's not been he's not been having the best time of things. And he has been losing his mind a little bit. I mean, don't shoot him on site, obviously, but he's dead he just he just he headbuttoned a necromorph. Yeah. That counts as dangerous.
SPEAKER_04And Shy is like, I like that Shy uh that Isaac is like, err, and Nolan is like, uh. It's like I Isaac looks like he wants to to garrot you, and Nolan looks like he's just dropped like a hulu, like he's dropped a crisp on the floor, and he just looks a bit sad.
SPEAKER_02Isaac looks like actually a fugitive. Nolan looks like all for jaywalking.
SPEAKER_00Oh I just dropped my ice cream cone. Oh no. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um and yeah, Gabe is informed uh by Vic, who's also like taunting himself like, oh, by the way, I'm gonna go kill your wife, your pregnant wife, uh, because she was supposed to be part of the Oracle program. Remember them. Uh, because your child that you're having is very important because they're gonna maybe like raise it from birth to be like a necromorph outbreak quella, because you're obviously very capable and she's got immunity to the marker, so that would be useful. Ha ha. Um Vic manages Vic Bartlett is his name. He manages to capture her, then two oracles just show up out of nowhere, and they're like, hey, we're just gonna like beat you up and take her ourselves because we want her for our programme. We're expendable, but she's important, and they just drag her away. And Weller's like, no, no, stop it. Don't you do that? Don't you know I'm British? I'll get you. I'll get I'll Jason stay from you, and he will. Um I'll crank to you, and um so Weller pursues that scene. Go here, you um he witnesses the oracles turn into like necromorphs, and it doesn't look like they put up a fight, it's like maybe they wanted to just to like get at Gabe. Um, but nevertheless, he kills them, he he puts her in the shuttle and's like, You don't have a like suit, you'll die. I'm gonna open the the doors and we can escape. And then at the last moment, um I'm gonna have a cry. I'm gonna cry. Um Vic turns up, Bartlett turns up with a grenade in his hand and he tries to hurt Gabe and then it blows up and he dies, but then Gabe loses his legs, and then he he spends his last moment shooting off the hinges of the door to allow Alexine and his unborn child to escape. I'm gonna cry. And he dies. I'm sad now.
SPEAKER_02Poor Gabe, but he went up like a hero.
SPEAKER_04He went up and is an absolute legend. Yeah, and like as Shai says, the DSA is called Severed because Gabe loses his legs. And Gabe's last words It's called Severed, yeah. Um it's specifically called Severed because he gets his legs blown. And Gabe's last words to Lexine are I love you.
SPEAKER_00I love Gabe, he's my favourite, he's great. Leave him alone. Bring him back for Dead Space 4. Bring him back. I want him.
SPEAKER_02Got his got his legs cut out right from under him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Darth Morlin. It was he was it turns out he was fine. Now he's got robot legs. Perfect. Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi!
SPEAKER_04Um anyway, um He's a legend. Capital L, capital E, capital G. We love Gabe in this household. Um Wow. Meanwhile, in uh the Church of Unitology, Isaac stumbles upon the indoctrination centers that are closed off to the public. Wink wink. Um he also finds a small golden Ishimura statue if you look carefully, so it's like, oh, they they something they why would they have that solid gold? Maybe. Um and there's all sorts of propaganda about Altman throughout this place. It's like quite a like beautiful place in terms of like it's very gothic, it's very Warhammer-y in my opinion, with like some of the like stained glass and the lighting and stuff, and they have like all the scrolls on the wall. Uh, there are slogans like be reborn as one. We are one, people, mind, purpose. And it's like, oh look at all these like bits of propaganda that look not at all shifty in any way. Come on, lots of smiling faces with people in robes saying, Come on, be one of us. Come on. Ask us how. Ask us how to, you know, be indoctrinated. Why not? Um, and they kind of know what they're doing, they actually monitor. There's a bit where you can find like a log where someone's monitoring, like, oh, this recruit isn't very pliable. Let's just get as much money out of him as we can and then let him loose because he's not going to be like a full convert. Um, what's of all the spheres? Ah, shy. It's like Mass Effect 1. When you find that ball in the sky, it turns into a pocket one, and you yeah, it's Mass Effect again. Oh, a metal ball. And also, fun fact, in the church, they have a cold storage under the church full of dead bodies in their crypts. I wonder what that's for. Oh no. Because separation of church and state. EarthGov can't intervene, it's not allowed. Uh separation of church and state, oh no. Uh also, fun fact, there's been software glitches prior to the outbreak where some of the bodies have been falling by foreign by mistake. Can't see any problems with that. Anyway, Isaac's there. Isaac's there, and he's like, oh no, they're coming to life. Oh, dead Gripplies coming to life, and they're covered in ice cream. And um he manages to get his way. Uh, they have an entire morgue fleet, don't they? Yeah, they have like loads of like, you're a valued member. Become one of our crypt goblins. Um, yeah, and so it's like he he eventually manages to fight his way to Dana. She betrays him, is like, oh, we're just gonna like cut open your head because we want you to make a marker because Earthgov has a marker, we want one too. And then she's instantly ganked by a gunship from Earthgov that like Tidman sent. She's just like, No, and she gets like shot to death. Like, oh whoops. Poor Dana. Um, yeah, she's gone now.
SPEAKER_05So she's like, she's sort of set up to be quite important, and then it they just gets wiped out. Just goodbye.
SPEAKER_04She does have a big like villain reveal in front of the largest glass window you've ever seen in your life. And then the gunship just goes, hello, and rat ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. Bye, Dana. She's gone. Bye. Oh, um, excellent. It is quite satisfying. And then like the two guys who are like grabbing your arms, like one of them has like the most ghoulish face you've ever seen in your life. If you like pause frame when the camera is like trying to like sh like hide how little time they put into his character model, and you look at him like, ugh, that guy's grim. He looks like a he looks like a telletubby or something, I don't know. Um yeah, so she's dead now, and then Strauss is like, hey, don't worry, I can help you. I'm I'm just like the crazy oh wait, Shy's saying, I'm sorry, wait, stop.
SPEAKER_02Shy demands we stop everything. Why are we stopping?
SPEAKER_04Why are we stopping?
SPEAKER_02What's up, Shy?
SPEAKER_04What what happened? Is it because I mentioned telletuppies?
SPEAKER_05It could be the last time this happened, there was some sort of real-world news revelation that was horrible and weird, and I really hope that's not what it is that's Facebook.
SPEAKER_04I was looking up Dana on Wiki, and the image of her deaf is called cutdebitch.jpg. Wow.
SPEAKER_07Wow.
SPEAKER_04Wow. You can tell players got very incensed about being manipulated for the first quarter of the game by her. Anyway, um Australians, what are they like? Anyway, um the band.
SPEAKER_01I'm not Australian, but I have some lovely Australian friends.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I love Fosters. No, the other one's shy. The other guy, the other guy's the one with the weird face on the left. Um, yeah, and also um Tideman enacts Operation Endgame, Ominous. And he's like, hey, we're gonna fall back to the government sector because the civilians are screwed. We're just gonna let them die. Let's just haul up in the government sector, protect the marker, they can't get in. It's it's it's you cannot get in. It's just there is no way into the government's house. They've got lots of big doors, they're very heavy. Um and Strauss is like, hey Isaac, don't worry, I've got an idea. How about we just stop the marker with the things they told us that stops the marker? Okay, crazy man, what's your plan? And he's like, Oh, there's three steps. One, crawl inside the machine. Two, screws go tight all around, and then three, cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in your eye. Okay, Stross, have fun. Um, but then in the midst of all this stroke of good luck, we stumble upon Ellie Langford, an X Class 4 heavy equipment CEC pilot, who thinks Isaac's a nerd, but she's cool, she's actually like killing necromorphs and being a badass. And I think she's also Australian, so it's like we gotta even out the evil Australian with a good one. Like, okay, let's put a nice Australian to counterbalance the evil one. Um although, yeah, yeah, and she's in Dead Space 3 as well. Just gonna put it out. Ellie's great, we love Ellie in this house, and um, she stumbles upon Strauss and she's like, this guy's a bit loony, I don't trust him, and Isaac's like, well, sorry, we need him alive if we want to stop the marker. He's more like in the deep end than I am, so although I can keep a level head and kill Necromorphs, he's more in like he knows what to do to stop the outbreak. And so reluctantly they team up as a trio. Isaac ventures to the Solar Array station because um they need it to try and get into the government sector. There's a former resident of the station called Watchman Howard Phillips who's being torment who's been tormented the last few months by an AI called Anti A-N-T-I, who's been like preventing him from getting like a transfer off station, and he's going mad, poor fella. Um they just want to add that for something like oh let's torment one more poor soul, why not?
SPEAKER_05Um give it a different source this time, but yeah, it's still someone getting tortured, and that's the important thing.
SPEAKER_04And the site 12 marker has obviously been messing with his head. He has a bunch of like birds and cages, he loves birds, and he's all like, I love them so much. I'm one day gonna let them all out their cages just to mess with Auntie. And then the next log you find he's like, the birds want me dead, the birds want me dead, Auntie wants me dead, everyone wants to be dead, and he's having like a psychotic break. And you're like, No, Howard. Um, so Tidman's like, Auntie, lock Isaac in, don't let him get to the government sector. Isaac's an engineer, so he shuts her down. Um, he manually restores operational control to the station. He repositions the solar relay in person to help reactivate life support and activate the trains to the government sector. And they're like, cool, we've got trains, we've got power, we've got life support. Let's do a superhero landing. And Isaac like flies from the solar array back to Ellen Stross from like a bajillion miles in the sky, dodging debris, and does a superhero, like the the most like botched superhero landing where he falls from a vent and like bumps into a bunch of like walls, but he still he sticks to landing, to be fair, but he does like a proper landing. I'm gonna do an Iron Man, and he goes, Oh no, oh, I'm not paced, thank God. Uh and Bullet with Butterfly Wings starts blasting. Exactly. In spot on my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage. That's what Isaac says as he's going down. It's very funny. Sure, sure. And um they get to uh they they regroup, they get to the government sector, they find, oh, we're locked out. But you know what's strange? That looks a lot like the Ishimura. Oh turns out they recovered the Ishimura, scrubbed it, and docked it, as you saw in that photo, at Titan Station.
SPEAKER_02I see. Well, that's unfortunate. Um and Isaac's like, I'm back here.
SPEAKER_04Time to relive the nightmares. And um and and as you explore, it's actually kind of a really fun segment. I think it's like chapter 10 or something. You go back through the Ishimura, and all that that you start off in the um the uh what the flight deck where you first start the game in the original, and you go through like the um the entrance lobby, then you go through the bit where you get chased to the elevator, you see the sign which says cut off their limbs, but there's no enemies, and all the bloodstains are covered in plastic sheeting, and there's like scribblings of like cleaners being like, This needs more cleaning, this needs more cleaning. And basically what they're like saying is, well, we've restored power, but if we want to get to the government sector, we need to use the Ishimura's tractor beams to bring it back to connect with the um the uh the the public sector, and then we can go through again. Because they're Tidman's trying to like separate it from the rest of the station so they can just flee. And Isaac's like, No, you don't, let's I'm just gonna reel you back in. Um there's a lot of black lights going on in the ship, and you see a lot of fluorescent blood everywhere, and it's creepy and it's fun, and there's bits where he's hallucinating like uh one of the tendrils grabs him, like in the original, but it doesn't actually, he's just he's just losing his mind a little bit, and he's going through all these like areas, like he goes through the flight deck, he goes through medical, he goes through um uh the bridge, the engineering deck. So there's like all these like greatest hits of DS1, which are really fun to go through again. And there are some necromorphs they start spilling in, it's like, ah, they've they've come in from the Titan station side of things, oh no. Uh, but there's like a really weird bit where like for a long section there's no enemies, and you're like, this is not right, there should be enemies, and then they hit you and you're oh here they are, thank god. Oh, okay. It's a dead it's still a dead space game. This isn't a walking simulator, great, and um but basically Tiedman wants to use the solar array, now it's been reactivated to cut off the trio from the government sector. So they say, Okay, let's track to beam the government sector, they do that. And Isaac uses they've refitted the uh the escape pods in the bridge section, so Isaac uses one of those to re-re connect with um with Ellie. And uh unfortunately, before he can reach Ellie, Stross has a psychotic episode, and he stabs her eye out with a screwdriver.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, alright, yeah, sure, of course.
SPEAKER_04Because as you do, as you do again, stick a needle in your eye, that's one of the steps to stop the marker. Um he attempts to do the same to Isaac. He does like a bit of a jump scare where you're opening a door and he just starts like hitting the screwdriver against your like mask and it breaks, and then you have to like grab it from him and stick it in his ear. So there goes Stross, oh no, that is that'll do it, that'll kill someone. And essentially Stross lost his mind because he was like, Oh, I the guilt of killing my son and wife was too much. And if you actually like crunch his body, he drops an audio recording of him grieving over his family. So, like the method to get it is a bit bit much, but it is worth a look. I'm just saying if you gotta crunch a guy with a with a curb stomp, I'm just saying he's gone already. Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_02You've already stuck a uh a needle or a screwdriver in his ear. He's gone, he's not gonna feel it. You might as well get the lore. I'm just saying, you want to get that gotta get that achievement.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you might as well get the lore. Like, that's such a w you say that.
SPEAKER_05For me, that is that is a probably insane decision to make that how you get that drop.
SPEAKER_04I don't care if 10 gamers score. I think it's worth it. 10 gamers score adds to the pile. Yeah, he just absolutely does. Shy said he just stabbed your potential Australian girlfriend in the eye with a screwdriver. Stomp his ass. Yeah. Exactly. Give him the business, yeah. Leave my badass Australian wife.
SPEAKER_05It's not necessary, it's just pure, pure recreation for that point.
SPEAKER_02And funny, you're you're playing it for the first time and you curb stomp him and your friend's like, How'd you know it was gonna drop that lore? Uh uh I read it.
SPEAKER_04So leave me alone, don't yeah. Um, but then um we we kind of see like at this point the the ghost, and bear in mind I should say that the ghost of uh Nicole has been hounding us through the entire game, but it's more like a an extra thing that happens. It's not like a um it's not a particularly like um there's no point where it's a particularly cogent point for the for like the progression, it's more of something that just happens occasionally, but then eventually Isaac is like, Oh, I have to forgive myself for losing Nicole. I'm going through the stages of grief. And then when you do that, she like tries to choke you to death and you go, I'm sorry, and she forgives you, and then she becomes like normal again. You're like, Oh, Isaac, he's like, I succeeded where Stross failed, I forgave myself, and then she starts helping you through the rest of the mission. Like, oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02I succeeded, I get it, because Isaac Isaac Isaac Clark.
SPEAKER_04Nice, nice, nice, nice, I like it. Nice. Um, and yeah, he reunites with Ellie. They they happen to find upon a really useful heavy drill platform which will burrow a path underground towards EarthGov. It's like a remnant from when they used to be like mining the moon, they must have forgotten it. So he re-jigs it with power, they borrow their way to the front door, and the EarthGov's government sector is really nice. It's got big heavy doors, it's got all this like nice lighting, and it's sterile, and it's like, oh, that's useful. There goes the drill. Oh, we borrowed a hole to the front door. Let's open the front door and let all the necromorphs in. Lol lolol. So that's what we do. So now Earthgov is like, oh, we got 200 men. Now you've let like the entirety of the necromorphs follow you in. Thanks, Isaac. Um but but before the final uh push, uh Ellie finds a gunship, and Isaac decides, I'm not gonna let her die like Nicole did. I'm going to launch her off the station and I'm gonna finish this alone because I don't want Ellie to die because I care for her. And uh Ellie is not happy with this. Um, she's calling him a bastard, etc. And he's like, I'm sorry, I'm Isaac Clarker. And then it's like, okay, we'll do this alone with Nicole to help. And there's like a point where like you're both sitting down with her, you and Nicole are sitting down just chatting, and for some reason at the end, she says, make us whole, and he doesn't really care about that. He's like, I can't, you know, oh no, Isaac, we've been down this road before. Um no so Ellie is now off the station, it's just Isaac versus Tiedman, and he manages to divert the swarm of necromorphs into his 200-man strong force. They get torn to shreds. Nicole is pointing him directly to site 12. Tiedman's getting very stressed, as you can imagine, because like he had 200 men, they were not having any problems, it was secure. Within minutes, they're dying, all the staff are dying, it's not good. We find evidence within the station that the marker signal for most people is white noise. But if you're really smart, it's that's why you get instructions. It's tied to intelligence. Like Isaac's an engineer, he's clever. Stross was a scientist, he's he's clever. Therefore, they're the ones who get like cursed with the uh well, I guess cursed to live, but you'll be like trying to make markers rather than cursed with white noise where you want to type tear out your eyes. Which do you prefer? I don't know. I I want to go to the second one, maybe, and then just say no, I don't I don't have a hammer, I can't make no marker, sorry, I don't have the tools, sorry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think I would rather be ejection into the sun.
SPEAKER_02I love that. I I think I'd much rather be cursed to try to make a marker than you know, want to rip my own eyeballs out. Yeah. Um call me crazy, but you know. I mean, it's easy to do there's a marker right there.
SPEAKER_04There is also a message from a quote overseer who's disappointed with uh Tideman trying to evacuate the station, and he's briefly in the aftermath movie as like a fella. He's just like a shady government fella, never turns up again, don't worry about it. Um and yeah, so Isaac in the last last bits of the game, he he finds upon the Site 12 marker, and it is enormous. It is like a size of a building, like a tall building, it's huge. Oh and he looks down, and there's like hundreds, if not thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of necromoths all surrounding. The marker and Tideman's like, you idiot, you open the door, you let hundreds of thousands maybe of necromorphs get to it straight away. Now convergence is gonna happen, you idiot. Thanks, Isaac. And you're like, oh no, and you even see, like, um, it's like an in the invincible slasher returns, but he has the head of a hive mind with like several eyeballs, and you're like, Oh, the necromorphs have a like concerted push to get to the marker, led by their like prototype, possibly hive mind, who's still like bipedal, and you're like, Oh, you've been playing right into the necromorph's hands, and Nicole's there, like, oh, don't worry, don't worry. Um, remember the noonlight machine, stick a needle in your eye?
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04So that that um that part of your brain, uh, they were like, hey, when we were interrogating Isaac and Strauss, we don't want to like cut their head open every time we need to get some like blueprints. There's only a tiny bit of bone between the eyeball and the bit of the brain we need to get to. So how about we just put a needle through the ocular nerve directly into the brain each time we need to do it? So then you have probably the most infamous scene in Dead Space where you have to lie on a on a on a table with a needle slowly approaching Isaac's eyeball as he flits around, and if you do it wrong, it's very gory.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, you just get your that that whole ocular just gets dug out and giant hole is there. Everybody's seen it, everybody knows.
SPEAKER_04Like I was replaying it in like a speed run of sorts, and I was just trying to do it really quickly, and I did it, I killed him three times by accident. And my girlfriend was like, Are you alright? I'm like, Yeah, I'm just and then I realized if you ever go over a hundred, because as it approaches, his heart rate goes up. If you ever go over a hundred beats per minute, it like ups the the heart rate for the rest of the segment. So you want to go really slow. And I was like, I'm gonna be clever and go quick. He's like, No, you want to go really slowly so he doesn't move his eye that much. Um and yeah, so you go through it's not even that gruesome if you do it right, but I think it's worse than Gore Def because needle it to the eye just by itself is nauseating, and like when it comes out, a big blood trickle goes down your cheek, and you're like, ugh. Um and yeah, so all the while convergence is happening, the necromorphs are being spirited up to the top of the marker for whatever that's gonna be about. We'll get to that in Dead Space Free. Don't hate me. And um the invincible slasher starts trying to stop you because he's like, hey, things are going great, actually. You did what you needed to do, I'm gonna cut you up. Um but eventually Nicole leads you to the marker, and Tiedeman, through it all, has survived the encounter. He's got like a he's carved sigils in his half missing face that in Necromorph Glyph Spell Pain, I believe it is, tries to kill you with a javelin, which shoots like harpoons at you, and you basically just like quick time event up to him, you break his wrist, you shoot him through the neck with one of the harpoons, and then like as an act of just like have fun, the developers are like, you can shoot him in the spine, you can shoot his face off, you can electrocute him, or there's like several ways to kill Tideman. I'm like, guys, did we need to have multiple ways of executing him at the end of the game? Come on.
SPEAKER_02What's your favorite way to do it? As as the Dead Space expert, what is your preferred method of Tideman execution?
SPEAKER_04I I I like a nice, clean and simple head pop because you can't really do it for the rest of the game because headshots don't count. So I'm like, finally, that's headshot Kiltacular.
SPEAKER_05All my years spent playing other games where headshots are the thing to go for. Yeah. Finally, I can use this right at the end of the season.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I think the cruelest is the alt fire where you electrocute him and you s see him slowly like die. I'm like, that's mean. Like, I was just like, put him out of his misery, he's already got a harpoon through his throat, might as well like make it quick. And also like pop.
SPEAKER_05Um so yeah, and at the moment afterwards, what does he drop if you stomp him afterwards? Oh, you it it's it's a stomp him and get the loot.
SPEAKER_04It's like a it's like a scripted scene, so you can't stomp him, I'm afraid. But you I think you can you you can fail though, because he bear in mind Isaac at this point, he gets shot through like the shoulder, and then one goes straight through his hand to block it going through his head. He's not having a good time, and then he goes, Stop it, and he breaks his wrist and shoots him through the neck. Uh but at this point, you're at the base of the marker 12. You you embrace Nicole and she says, Thank you, Isaac. And then she betrays you because she's the marker dipshit. Oh, come on.
SPEAKER_02Unfortunately, yeah, unfortunately. Yeah. And then, like, I was I was worried something like that was gonna happen in the end.
SPEAKER_04And Isaac just gets fed up and goes, screw you! And he just starts like partially in real life, partially hallucinating. He shoots at Nicole, he shoots at the core of the marker, he blows up the marker like core. Yeah, there we go. Shy, uh, I'm assuming I'm allowed to swear on this pod with the thing. Shy just says, the the best line of dialogue in Dead Space series, fuck you, and fuck your marker. Like, yeah, there you go, Isaac. That's his Hell yes, let's go with Helium. What a guy, what a guy. And so he blows up the marker, and then he's like, Right, I did what I need to do. Titan station is collapsing. I'm just gonna like sit here and die. I I I've done what I needed to do, I suffered so much. Just gonna end it. And then the camera pans out, the credits start rolling, and then Ellie goes, G'day, mate. Oh, don't be cringe, come with me, I'll save you. And you're like, Oh, thanks, Ellie. And then so Ellie actually breaks the kind of like the the the kind of uh what's what's the word? The um the fake out where it's like, yeah, it's like oh Dead Space 2, we're just gonna let Isaac die, and it like takes his time. It's like, come on, you wanna come on, okay Ellie, and then she turns up in the gunship, you do like a big um flying up around the marker remnant up to the ship where she grabs, she reaches out, and she's like, I'm trying to grab your hand uh marker is destroyed, Titan Station meltdown happens, entire station is destroyed, Ishimura is gone, everything explodes. The the Necromorph infestation is truly and utterly quelled that close to Earth. But as the game ends, similar to Dead Space One, Isaac is sat in the the the chair of the gunship, and he looks to his right, and if you remember the first game, he looks to his right, and Nicole's ghost is there, jumps at him and tries to claw his eyes, and that's how the first game ends. But in Dead Space 2, a look of horror strikes Isaac, he's like, Oh, this is a bit deja vu. He looks to his side, Ellie is there, and she just goes, What? And that's the end of Dead Space 2.
SPEAKER_00Just like, yeah, fair enough. And that's Dead Space 2.
SPEAKER_02I like it. That's that's good. That's excellent.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then as like a really like really like obnoxious rock bit, just goes, yeah, brilliant. That's Dead Space 2. Um the only thing else I'd like to talk about is some of the new enemy types. But other than that, do you have anything you'd like to comment or or or ask about with Dead Space 2? Because that was pretty much it. No, I think I'm good.
SPEAKER_02That was that was I I I didn't I didn't remember all of the ending because like I said, I don't think I ever beat proper Dead Space 2. Um obviously everybody has seen the the gory eyeball death, even if you didn't make it to that point. That the GIF and video of that has been around has done the rounds on the internet so much that everybody's seen it, but hell yeah. All man, these episodes, I'm like, God, I need to I need to play all the Dead Space games again. I had the Dead Space remake. I started the Dead Space remake. I boy, uh mm, yeah, I need yeah, it's it's it's it's time it's time to play the Dead Space games again.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I went I went and bought the the remake like immediately by the day after we did that record, but I haven't had time to start it yet. Like I'm constantly like Come on I'm gonna some point soon I'm just gonna take a day off. I'm just gonna be like, nothing, no work. Yeah don't I'm not replying to emails, I am playing Dead Space instead because it sits there in my library and I'm like soon.
SPEAKER_02Soon one day, my precious, precious, my precious.
SPEAKER_04And I have heard um Severn is a bit of a difficult one. Um I bought it on Xbox, so I just had to go to the store and I could just re-download it because I had the license, but I don't think you can buy it anymore. But I I have heard there's a a mod on Dead Space 2 for PC where you you can like connect it somehow, but I don't know how to do that. But I I replayed on Xbox. So if you haven't, if you've already bought it guys and you like in the chat, like uh in the in the if you're view if you're watching this episode and you're like I remember Dead Space severed, I bought it on Xbox, you can still get it. It's really easy, but PC is a bit of a trickier thing, so you might have to do some like um some some weird circumvention patch mod stuff, but it is possible.
SPEAKER_02Um would you say when it comes to getting severed on PC, you're a bit stumped?
SPEAKER_04Uh as far as I'm aware, there's there's a mod for Dead Space, and it should just be a case of you download the thing and then you download severed and it connects pretty I I'm not very good at modding, so I don't know how this works exactly. But I I don't think it's particularly difficult. I'm just saying well, let's go and you make a pun. Oh sure. Screw me screwing me then. I'm getting out of here. Bye folks. I I I I I I understood a bit too late.
SPEAKER_02I tried saw shy typing as you were as you were genuinely trying to explain it. I was like, Shy got it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05There's my to to tell I just I really wanted to tell DK off, but I I'm stunned by the pun to such an extent that I just sort of sat there for a minute. The pun's dun. Uh the best of us.
SPEAKER_04God's sick. Um yeah, alright, let's ignore that. Uh so enemy types. Let's start with the tripod. Wow.
SPEAKER_03Ooh, this is like the mini box.
SPEAKER_04You actually encounter this very early in the game. Like when you leave the medical center, you just put your suit on. It's like, here, bite this. Oh, okay. Um it's composed, composed of multiple bodies as a male and female variant. Massive legs that are used as a stomp around, kind of like a a larger brute. And it also, if you like when you cut off its arms, you're like, oh, it's over. A massive scythe spills out of its mouth from its tongue and tries to kill you. So you gotta be careful, and it can pounce on you. It's a bit of a it's a bit of a dick. Um be careful of that. It's pretty large. We have the war of the world's own. Yeah, exactly, Shy. Um yeah. Uh another new fun enemy, the puka.
SPEAKER_02Oh no. Guess what this does? Skinny boomer. Yeah, I'm I'm assuming it it's it spits shit all over you. Yeah. Noxious goofing acid.
SPEAKER_04It's got three legs, one of them composed of its organs, so it kind of it kind of is cross-legged and it's its rib cage is exposed. Uh, these are annoying because they they tend to stay quite far away. And when they puke on you, it's not about damage. It just like hardens and slows you down so you can't run and you can't really walk properly. So it's more a support enemy that just tries to like slow you down as the others try to swarm you. Um, that's fun.
SPEAKER_02Also, that's such a cool design that it has the two legs, but it's got the leg of organs. So it's like when you look at it from the back, he's obviously like slanted, but then there's like oh, that's so weird and creepy. I love additional organ leg is so unnecessary in the rocks.
SPEAKER_04It's to stabilize the puke volley. Come on. We've all had a crazy Saturday night when we've had a few too many. I don't know, projectile vomiting can be fun in dead space. I don't know. Maybe. Um, also, uh, is that third leg in your pants, or do you just want to make us whole nice one shy? Got him. Wow. Got him. Um here's a fun one. What if you made a toddler into a necromorph? Welcome, the stalker. Um these are horrible. They ambush you in groups and they scream at you and they sound like children, because they are. And they basically have like they they they they I I guess they're like they're just awful. They're just awful. Yeah, yeah. It's like, yeah. Oh, sorry, the these are the pack, not the stalker, the pack. Uh they're toddlers, they attack in groups, they shriek. They're very frail, so you can kill them with like one shot, but because they attack you in groups, they're just toddlers. Oh, carry off.
SPEAKER_02Sir I thought you were a refined British gentleman. What is that? I remember.
SPEAKER_05That was instant regret. You got mad at me for stumped, crazy. I apologize profusely.
SPEAKER_04Karyoff on the school run. Like, give me a pulse rifle on a I'm gonna speed this up a bit. Oh no. That's a plus two from me, carry off. Wow. Um, this is the stalker thing. This is the stalker, this is an ambush enemy. This thing hides around corners, and it's kind of like a combination of human and animal DNA. So there's like something else involved. Like, there wouldn't be pets on the Ishimura, there were on the sprawl. Hello, Stalker. And um that's gonna be in the nightmares for a while. Yeah. They peek around corners, and if you get too close, they run to other corners, and then when they're ready, they just go and they run at you and they try to like headlong charge you to death. Oh, these fuckers just peek around the corner at you all creepy, like and they always attack you in segments full of like a maze, like lots of crates in segments in grids, and you're like, oh, these guys suck.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I hate it. Oh, I hate that. That's not that is okay.
SPEAKER_04Not a fan of the glowy orange eyes. That's that's correct. Yeah, that's the the the uh the the worst one. This was just called Assist. Um they're just laughing.
SPEAKER_02That is what it says on the tin, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Grows on corruption, uh, shoots postules at you at choke points, and they kind of make this like have you ever seen like a seagull trying to eat too much food at once? They go, whoa! Like they do that noise. Yeah, and they just make that so you can kind of hear them. So when you hear the noise, you just stay still and you look around and want to say, Oh, there you are, and then you shoot it and it spits it out and it dies. Uh nests, these are uh female transformed necromorphs. They have bulbous they have bulbous butties. And uh they're not too dissimilar to guardians from the first game, they are all they're immobile, they just kind of defend important locales. But they uh if you get too far away from them, they retract into their fleshy pouches and they they wait. Don't retract into the fleshy pouch, folks. Be courageous, never retract into the fleshy pouch, especially with all those pustules.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I cannot properly describe the sheer look of disgust that is currently on my face.
SPEAKER_04Well, you say that. What happens when you turn a baby into a necromorph?
SPEAKER_06It's a baby. Crawlers. That is, it's just uh this is just a baby crawler, alright. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Crawlers. Um they pop, they bloat up. Uh their heads are twisted backwards. They kind of remind me of like mannequin porcelain dolls, they're creepy. There's an amazing scene in the game where you go in the nursery and you hear like the little um like uh what are they called? The things that like turn in circles and they go tingt.
SPEAKER_02They're like the uh oh yeah, the oh sh I don't I don't remember what they're called. Yeah, they're box sort of thing. Yeah, they don't know. No, it's the it's the little turnstile thing above the crib that has all the little like airplanes and stuff and it makes sounds. It's like uh Oh and as as Shine turnstile, it's like uh uh that's gonna ri That's gonna bug me.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I feel like I should definitely know what the what the name of that is.
SPEAKER_02Mobile hang Oh yeah, it might be a mobile hanging above crib.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um uh as Shy put here. Yep, yep the uh the quote here, come to mama. Yes, yes, that's it. Come to mama, oh right up here, and then like the baby crawls to the lady, jumps in her arms and giggles, and then goes and then it pops, and you see blood all over the walls. Oh I hate the babies. Burn the babies, the crawlers. Um there's also a uh boss type enemy called the Tormentor, who very briefly turns up. Lots of bodies in this one, multiple corpses, multiple corpse right there, lots of elongated limbs and a big more of jagged teeth. Uh it's more like a set piece boss, it turns up when you're like in the train segment, it tries to like get ya. Um and other than that, the last one is the ubermorph, which is the one that's got like a a hive mind head, and it's basically the same enemy from one that just regenerates its limbs, but it's possibly like an early stage of the hive mind, it's invincible basically. Uh you never really kill it in this game, you just get to the marker before it kills you. So it's like, oh, I guess this is the the final or the first stage of evolution for the hive mind, maybe, because it leads the charge when you attack the government building. And yeah, that's that's all the new Necromorphs. Um Dead Space 2. There it is. Hell yeah. To be fair to Isaac, he he he had a rough time, but at least when he left the station, he got a girlfriend. Could be worse. Could be worse.
SPEAKER_02An Australian girlfriend. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know why that's important, but I survived a necromorph outbreak and all I got was this lovely girlfriend.
SPEAKER_05She's missing an eye, but we can't all be perfect.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, you know, it's alright. She's she's she's fine. It could be a lot worse.
SPEAKER_05Oh a hundred percent. Absolutely. I mean yeah, oh god. But I I I you know what? I really, really like the Dead Space Universe. I I feel like I'd I've I've I'm just I'm gonna take some time off purely to just play through because it's a very, very it's I say a very, very fun universe. It is a very fun universe. It's also horrific. The monster designs are crazy, and I still think the way the markers like mess about with the uh like the brains of the people near them and have these differing effects like based on intelligence and stuff, it's just a really, really cool idea. It's really fun. Did you hashtag boys will be boys?
SPEAKER_04Oh well basically so I was like, what's the one that attacks you in the the church? And it's uh it's the only female tripod in the game, so I said hashtag boys will be boys, hashtag multiple boys, hashtag tripod lads. Um the other tripod enemies are boys. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Classic, brother. Classic. Yeah. Hell yeah. But yeah, I yeah, I'm gonna need to play Dead Space. I I I my my urge to play Dead Space has been reinvigorated, so you know.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's good. And I have also the dismembrance uh, there you go.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Well, see, I I was I was gonna ask if the episode is over, uh, there's only one way to properly end an episode, and that is to tell Kiriath to fumble his way through an outro. Right, Kiriath?
SPEAKER_05I will firstly say, would you like to tell people where they can find you, Remembrancer?
SPEAKER_04Um, you can find me on the Remembrancer, but I'd also like to shout out, if I may, um Lodgecast, where if you're also one of the alumni from the Warhammerverse, we're going through every single Warhammer 40k Horus Heresy book and soon branching count to 40k itself books, and we're gonna go through as many books as we can. And we're already 20 books into the Horus Heresy, we're gonna start doing 40k stuff as well. Give it a bash. It's it's a podcast format, you'll love it.
SPEAKER_02It's good. Good fucking luck with that. Giving all the Horus Heresy You're gonna be here until 2030.
SPEAKER_04Only 64 to go, I think it is. We'll get there.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah. Job for life, though. You got the content schedule set, brother. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05God Okay, well, thank you again to Remembrancer for uh continuing to guide us through the awful hellhole nightmare that is Dead Space. Make me whole for do c make come and make us whole as quickly as you can by hitting subscribe and joining the Patreon.
SPEAKER_02Terrible. Anyway, that's yeah, usually in sentences when you put come and whole that close together, it doesn't end well. Wow. You know what?
SPEAKER_05I was uh I I was also going to do a little also thank you, DK, but after that, no. Thank you everyone for watching slash listening and uh come back for the next one. Bye.
