Welcome back to another episode of Acceptable Losses! Today Dk, Kirioth and PancreasNoWork are leaving the Kindred behind and diving into the raw, feral world of Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Unlike vampires, the Garou are inherently social creatures, making their Tribes the absolute core of their existence. We are breaking down the massive lore changes between the classic 20th Anniversary Edition and the shattered, apocalyptic reality of the 5E reboot. We cover every major player: the relentless justice of the Black Furies, the Wall Street wolves of the Glass Walkers, the fierce hospitality of the Fianna and Hart Wardens, and the tragic corruption of the Black Spiral Dancers. Plus, a deep dive into Pentex, the brutal B.T.K. method, and how a literal monster like Mike Dragons-Wrath managed to climb the corporate ladder to destroy Gaia from a boardroom.
Welcome everyone to another episode of the Acceptable Losses Podcast, where usually Kyrioth just ruins my day, but once again we have brought in Pank the Tank for kind of a dark episode. Kirioth!
SPEAKER_06How are we doing? We've got a monster. We've got another monster because we are going to be talking about the tribes of Garou in uh in Werewolf the Apocalypse, which we have talked about before, and boy, there's a lot of background to this. But we do have, right, we've got two quotes to start this off, which obviously you don't need to guess anything. I mean you can if you want, it's sort of superfluous because we've already just said what we're doing. But but this I think sort of highlights the general like the general gist of this particular setting. So the two quotes. You know what? Actually, we're gonna start off, we're gonna do something different. DK, you're gonna read this one, and then Pancreas can read the next one. We're gonna do it like that. So there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, well, all alright. Sure, sure. Poor Pancras hasn't even had a chance to introduce himself proper, and Kyriath has already thrown quotes at him. That's very true. I yeah, I said his name, it's fine, he's been introduced.
SPEAKER_06Anyway. Actually, that might be the worst, that might be the worst sort of way we've totally glossed over like having having someone we like on on the podcast. Completely like, yeah, he's here, whatever. No, Pancreas. Do you know what? DK, shut up. Pancreas. Why am I telling you to shut up? I'm the one who's been talking most. What a son of a bitch!
SPEAKER_00Say hello. Hello, everyone. I am quote man. This is this is my new job.
SPEAKER_03Oh man. Yeah, I called him Pank the Tank. I gave him all the respect in the world. I got a poor Pank, I guess.
SPEAKER_00I got I got a wrestling intro and then the whip came out. I'm not gonna lie.
SPEAKER_06I I I'm just um I was not as prepared to start as I thought I was, because I was running very late for us to start recording. And you know what? I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you why. I it's something of a tonal whiplash, which is why it's throwing me a bit. I was painting miniatures. And specifically, I was painting gnomes with knives with their dicks out. And frankly, the shift from that to this, it it's just, you know, it it's just taken me a moment to get to get into the right headspace. You were painting what? I I just I mean I I don't I don't I don't understand what the what the what the problem is. I think I was very clear. Um I wish I weren't.
SPEAKER_00I hey man, it ain't it ain't my life. You got your own private time. Do what you gotta do. Whatever key, you know, whatever one foot whatever puts one foot in front of the other.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so true, so true. So so pancreas is is gonna read the first quote, right? Segwaying smoothly.
SPEAKER_02You get the first one. Oh, I get one.
SPEAKER_06I don't know. I feel like there's there is a there is a tone. There is a tonal shift that I think will work very well for this.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Okay. Each garrow belongs to a lineage that wends back through an epoch of Gaia's grace. Before the killing times when the mother bore us. Oh thanks for interrupting the close seconds which you were painting by the way.
SPEAKER_00Appreciate you, bestie. I'm not gonna lie, I I thought the hat was the uh was the was the was was gnome junior.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I you know that there were there were a lot of a lot of different thoughts going through. Anyway, quote attempt number two. Each ghetto belongs to a lineage that wends back through an epoch of God's grace. Before the killing times, when the mother bore us and Luna kissed our first breath into our lungs, it's why we seek our own legend, to ensure that those who come after us have a glorious example to heed. Antonia Gabriella Flores Castro Heart Wardens. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_06Poetic. Lovely, lovely stuff. And, you know, I think that sets the tone nicely. And now just to counteract that completely, Ego Pangreas.
SPEAKER_00Oh, nice. Fuck if I know. Maybe it's like reincarnation, but punishment style. Maybe every Garu did something really heinous in a previous life, and now it's to clean up the aftermath of some shitstorm they caused. Pete the lip of the glasswalkers.
SPEAKER_03That is quite the tonal shift.
SPEAKER_00You are so right, Gabriel. Assuming those are, you know, the those last two things are both werewolf tribes, I would much rather be a Heartwarden than a glasswalker.
SPEAKER_03That sounds deeply painful.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03Like walking on glass. Oh man. It took every ounce of strength not to go into the song, by the way, when I said like walking on broken glass.
SPEAKER_06I could feel the I could feel the uh the resistance coming through there. Heavy resistance. So, much like what we did with the bloodlines in Vampire the Masquerade follow-up episode, we're going to go into the most important communal aspect of the Garou society, which is tribes. The Kindred are independent creatures, and their culture is tied more so to their blood, whether they like it or not, while the Garou are much more social creatures, making tribes an essential part of their being. In the primary episode, we talked at length about the auspices of the moon and how what phase the moon is in in the moment of their first change denotes the individual temperament of a Garou. The tribes of the Garou function differently, and they have also changed quite a bit between the older editions and fifth edition, because as mentioned before, 5th edition of Werewolf the Apocalypse is not a continuation but a full reboot. So in the past, a tribe was something that was at least mostly in part tied to a bloodline, and the creation of this bloodline to assure for consistent tribes was very common. In those editions, a coming into being was a bit more predictable because of these monitored bloodlines. Now, even though a garo would be born into a tribe, it didn't mean that they were a full-fledged member. Some may be born that just don't really work for the tribe, and sometimes individual philosophy can make a Garou reject their blood-based family and actively seek another. In order to fully join a tribe, even if it's theirs by blood, they must pass the rite of passage and gain acceptance from the totem of the tribe. Though there are dozens and dozens of totems in the world, there are some that are primarily connected to a specific tribe. And of course the Garu Nation was a way for all these tribes to be more organized. So in 5th edition, the bloodline aspect has been removed and there is no real automatic assumption as to whether or not a Garu is part of a tribe, making the tribe less of a family and more of just a close-knit group. Much like the old editions, in order to join a tribe they must prove their worth, but totems have been replaced with patron spirits. Once they gain the favour, they may gain access to the Khan, which is the sacred home of the tribe and become one with the goals of the patron spirit. The patron spirit has a certain outlook on the world and its worldview serves as a specific call to arms in order to save or revive Gaia. This is more necessary than ever because in 5th edition, Gaia is presumed dead, and the Garu Nation has shattered, bringing on the era of apocalypse.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's that's just lovely.
SPEAKER_00I you know I l I like how this it kind of started with, you know, eugenics, and then they went away from the eugenics and replaced it with a trial to prove you belong here, and then also hey, guy is dead. We've we've we've gone downhill very quickly already.
SPEAKER_03God is dead and we killed her. Great. Cool. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not it's not looking it's not looking great for the Garu 5th edition. No. Also, DK, please, God isn't dead. Gaia's dead. God is busy laughing at Cain. Oh true.
SPEAKER_03Gotta send another punishment for that idiot. So true, you're right. Forgot all about that.
SPEAKER_06Still working away at the day job, which is just more punishment. Now, there was a question that appeared back when we started to cover World of Darkness. How is Possum specifically going to come to terms with the like different differences between editions? Well, in Vampire the Masquerade, it's a lot easier because the changes were predominantly gameplay and not impacting the lore too much. Werewolf the Apocalypse, though, is its own beast as there are genuine differences in the lore here, particularly with the tribes. So as a way around that, uh Possum, as a lover of the franchise as a whole, has opted to just cover all of it. So that's how we're gonna deal with that. I see. That is that is that is a choice, sure. Look, why why pick a side when you can just explain everything? That you know, that makes way more sense. Alright, let's do it. You say that now. So today unacceptable losses. We're gonna cover all the tribes of the Garou in Werewolf the Apocalypse, except the truly lost tribes and the other tribes of shape-shifting animals, although we would love to do the other shifters at some point, because frankly, Possum thinks that the three of us will love that. I that's entirely accurate. I mean, we saw the artwork of werewolves fighting sharks. Yeah. I mean, any explanation as to what happened there? I'm in. I'm 100% in. Let's go.
SPEAKER_03Um Your Honor was playing. Yeah. Also, as soon as you said Shifter, my mind raced back to the black company. I was like, oh, poor one out for shifter. He took out, you know, ten of the eighteen in the circle. Yeah. Poor one out for my boy. Yep.
SPEAKER_06Yep, yep, yep. So each tribal cover will focus predominantly on the older editions first, prioritizing the 20th anniversary edition version of them for the most part. Then after that, we'll talk about changes if they happened. Some will be subtle, some will be extreme. We'll also talk about the totems the tribes once had and the patron spirits they have now. And to cap off each tribe that has it, uh Possum's also included the archetypes that are suggested in 5th edition for some of the tribes, because frankly, they are quite fun and they cover some of the less obvious bases of the tribal culture. Now, please enjoy as we get back to the world of our favourite fuzzy eco-terrorists that are doing everything they can to save Gaia from death at the hands of the corruptive nature of the worm, both in the physical world and in the spiritual world, known as the Umbra. So we're going to start out with the Black Furies, and I have another quote for you here, DK. Oh hell yeah.
SPEAKER_03You dare condemn us for standing as a sisterhood for choosing to help women first? Yes, women shouldn't need our help. Gaia shouldn't need her furies, but they do. Now stand the hell aside before I show you real pain. Hell yeah. That is a strong quote.
SPEAKER_06That is very strong. That's a mission statement. So the Black Furies are a tribe driven by justice in the face of oppression. The worm uses many tools to exact control and cause societal manipulation, and the Furies believe that one of these most sharpened tools is the patriarchy. The Black Furies of old were an exclusively female tribe and would go out of their way to see it, that the taint of male influence is not only called into question, but also fully removed. I mean, you know, uh I I feel like there's a few people currently in very uh powerful positions that could do with a bit of that treatment, frankly. I don't think it's too much of a bad idea about it.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03You know, without naming any names, I'm sure literally every country and every city somewhere is like, yeah, hell yeah, brother, that yeah, I could see that happening, yeah, sure. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Some will take their belief in a lighter manner of refocusing to something a bit more mutually beneficial, but would still question the idea of protecting a man, while others believe in systematic oppression of men, alright, maybe not, uh thus taking on the role of something more akin to a supremacist. I think maybe the middle ground is the place the place to wait for there, innit?
SPEAKER_00Can't even enjoy werewolves anymore because he's woke.
SPEAKER_03Damn. If only I could go back to sleep. No. No.
SPEAKER_06Regardless of whether or not they're extremists, they all hold some universal beliefs. Femininity is essentially divinity, and any form of discrimination must be taken down with vengeance. Originally, their totem was Pegasus, a dark black horse who had thrown men off of his back and refused to aid them anymore. Much like the imagery of their totem, the Black Furies were founded in Greece and have, as you could probably guess, a strong ascetic, not unlike that of Amazonians. In 5th edition, though, the Black Furies changed in that they dropped the women-only aspect of their tribal belief and membership. They have instead taken on the burden of striking down any and all social injustices and examples of systematic oppression wherever it may stand. Some may be more of a casual activist, while others take on independent vigilantism against those reinforcing oppression. Taking on so many aspects of fighting down oppression results in, of course, infighting as to which aspects of oppression need to be dealt with first or which groups need more protection. In fifth edition, their patron spirit is Gorgon. Gorgon was a spirit abused in her past and now exists as fury made manifest against injustice. Now there is a ban system in place when it comes to the different tribes and patrons. So the ban for the Gorgon is if a member of the Black Furies sees an act of injustice, they must take action. Those who see something and actively refuse to stop it will be punished. Ah so they have to follow the Good Samaritan law.
SPEAKER_03Pretty much. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Alright, alright. That's that's that's a good start. I feel like this is a good start.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's pretty on brand for someone or a group that are called the Gorgon, you know, like the all-seeing eye type thing and the steel gaze not steel gaze, but you know, the You know what the hell I mean, dammit. I know what you mean. I just blindsided by what Shy said, sorry.
SPEAKER_06Just read that too. So um so Shy's written, some people are act are currently mad because of feminism, and some people are currently zerking it to big muscular wolf mummies. Let us know which one you are in the comment section.
SPEAKER_03I plead the fifth on the grounds that it may incriminate me. I know what I'm about.
SPEAKER_06Angry spam two in the chat. There's no point being coy DK. We know exactly which one it is for you, but it's not the one you think, chat. Sorry. No time. Okay. Randomly insinuate something awful.
SPEAKER_02Crazy, brother. Crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Everyone thought I'd be mad about feminism, but currently, you know, just actually.
SPEAKER_06I love a double switcheroo. It's my favorite. The double switcheroo.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the double switch.
SPEAKER_00He's zorking it, and by it I mean Kiriop's gnome dicks. Oh no. Oh god.
SPEAKER_03There's some there is some diehard world of darkness fan out there right now that is just seething mad that we are not staying on topic with the werewolves, and we have gone back to Gnome Cock.
SPEAKER_06It all comes back to Gnome Dick in the end. I don't know, not sure why, but it does.
SPEAKER_03Don't use the word comes when we're talking about stuff like this, dude. Don't don't do it. You can't do that, dude. You cannot do it. Wait. It's too late.
SPEAKER_06Oh, we're not even 20 minutes in. We've given we've been derailed by Gnome Dick twice. That's that's a new record. Especially since it's never happened before.
SPEAKER_00Man who sent Gnome Dick. How dare we get derailed by Gnome Dick? Also fair.
SPEAKER_06Totally my fault. Tell you what, I've got some archetypes here from the fifth edition for the Black Furies. So we have most wanted, those who, prior to their first change, were a pain in the ass of anyone in authority, arguing and pleading with those in power that can make change. There's also the EMT, those who help others in harm's way, while finding personal pride in being there for others. Then you've got musician, crowdworking masters with a stage persona that ignites rebellion in the crowd. Adrenaline on the stage is only matched by the energy they show in their rage and outriders. Preferring their lupus form, they patrol the borders of their territory and report back to the tribe. There's a fun spread there, actually. I quite like that.
SPEAKER_03That's Damn, so they have like uh punk rock rebel bands that will actually make you want to rebel against the system. Yep. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Sick.
SPEAKER_06Let's go. I love this setting. Hell yeah. That's pretty sick. That's pretty sick. Um I there's no real way to ease into the next one. The bone gnawers.
SPEAKER_00Quite the juxtaposition. I don't want to make assumptions, you know what they say, but you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think that's a safe assumption, dude.
SPEAKER_06There's a tonal shift there for sure. Uh here we go, Pancreas, one for you.
SPEAKER_00All right, all right. You see this shit? This is where the war's always been and it's worst. This is where the worm kills and twists and fucks up people because it knows nobody cares. We're the bastards who've been on this battlefield forever. Remember that.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so we had day, now we've got night. Good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, now we have the the Vietnam War vet.
SPEAKER_06Yes, Christ. On the outskirts of Garu Society are the Bone Gnawers, which were nor uh, nor I always get that mixed up on pronunciation, which were originally exiles from other tribes that were forced to stick together to make things work. Though they are on the outskirts and in the dregs, they see great power in this. Being unnoticed or disregarded means they can amass strength completely unchecked. The bone gnawers thrive among those who are poor, taken advantage of by greater powers and those who have been cast aside to be forgone. Abandonment is a point of pride for them, and they find unity in disadvantagement. Unlike some of the other tribes, the bone gnawers are exceptionally pragmatic and find themselves more intertwined with human society than most. Many Garus struggle in the dilapidated streets of mankind, but the bone noors thrive in these streets and are masters of fighting in the urban jungle. So their totem in the original editions and the spirit in fifth edition are actually the same. Rat It's just rat. Alright. Rat is a cunning entity which takes things overlooked by others and uses them to his advantage. In fifth edition, Rat's ban forbids any member of the tribe from ignoring those who are disadvantaged. Those who are in the murk need to be lifted up, and if you ignore them in their struggles, then you face the consequences. Unlike others, the Bone Lawers are a tribe that is virtually the same in all editions. Essentially, they struck gold and then they stuck with it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean Yeah, and you know, and cornered rat and all that, I imagine, when push comes to shove. I mean, I'm assuming that's a werewolf in human form in that one image who just has a gun.
SPEAKER_03Also, they they do kind of have they do kind of have some similarities to Gorgon in that, oh yeah, if you see someone that's disadvantaged, like you are oath bound to help them. So like there's there's similarities there, right? Also as black and white as as it seemed from the quotes.
SPEAKER_00The gold chain with the lock on it goes incredibly hard. It actually does. I quite like that, but I don't know whether I should or not. I you know, they're it it's werewolf stuff, it's fine. I'm hoping it's fine. I'm hoping this is a cool white wolf moment and not a not cool one. Well, you'll you'll find out when this episode airs. I will. There's mass outcry and I vanish from further episodes.
SPEAKER_03You thought you were gonna be gone because of Halo, as it turns out.
SPEAKER_06You're just gone. So the fifth edition archetypes for this lot are the Zine Raconteur, gathering dirty truths from those in the dregs, combined with photos of the dirty truth. They make sure the real stories get out there no matter the grit. Sound tech, close to the action and curating a vibe to allow for people to let down their hair. Those having a relaxing time tend to give out more info more freely. Friend of ours, everyone has that one friend that does favours for them. That friend is a great friend to have because everyone owes that friend a favour too. And gig wheel man. If you need a ride at some point in your life, a gig wheel man is always willing to do it, even if it's just to make a few books. Hell yeah. Extremely, extremely punk-coded that.
SPEAKER_03Very uh Yeah. Punk coated and on the nose, and yeah. They are what they say they are.
SPEAKER_00I always like to the, you know, it's it's a f you know, very fantastical creatures, but they're like, you know, modern inventions are actually quite nice in a lot of ways. It's like, what is it, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or no mortal no weapon forged by man can kill me. You lived in a time of swords. I have a rocket launcher. I think I'm gonna do a pretty alright job with this weapon forged by man, dickhead.
SPEAKER_03Probably do all right, yep, yep. Yeah, that that wolf is just vibing in the trash. Yep. No big deal. It's just like me for real. I did beat me to it.
SPEAKER_06I knew one of us was gonna get that. It just it was just a question of who did the neuron fire in first. Yeah. Next up we have the children of Gaia. And I've got another one for you, DK.
SPEAKER_03Alright. We're Garu. We draw out the toxins from our mother's blood, cut away her cancers, slay the parasites feeding on her flesh. But once the surgery's done, you have to bind the wounds back up too. Aww. I think. Yeah, that's uh that's nice. I think this lot are friendly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, they seem entirely sure.
SPEAKER_03They seem very medic and you know, heal the world, but to heal the world, you gotta slice it open first.
SPEAKER_00And I feel like that, you know, uh my opinion on them is gonna depend on what parasite counts as.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. What's the sickness you're trying to get out of Gaia? And is it me? Am I the plague?
SPEAKER_06I I will say, Shy said that they're kind of pretentious. That that picture that that you posted straight after that statement, that is the kind of thing that like my mum will see on Facebook and then badly linked to me on WhatsApp, not knowing how to really do that. And I just immediately don't like them because of that. As soon as you but as soon as you posted that, I was like, that that just I don't know why I would suddenly think of a piece of artwork as just being boomer coded. But it it kind of is, but I couldn't really explain to you why I think that's the case.
SPEAKER_03It's the unicorn, man. It's the unicorn and the it's it it it does give kind of a 70s vibe to it, right? So I guess I kind of get it.
SPEAKER_06It's it's like yeah, the second one is the second one is way more hardcore. I like that way better. Yeah. Yeah. Not all Garus seek conflict. The children of Gaia exists in a pacifist manner and believe that violence is not the answer. What the fuck are they doing in this setting? Uh long has the history of the Garou been stained with bloodshed. It is time now for cooperation and unity. Rage is not to be embraced. It's a tool, a specific tool, that is meant for a specific purpose, not something to just blindly throw around. The children of Gaia aim to repress their anger and strive to achieve inner peace. Oh, so that I mean they're just hippies then. It's literally Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That that's what I want to say about like the picture and why you thought it was old code. I was like, it kind of gives hippie vibes. Yeah, it just belongs to Woodstock. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah. It it's it's proper, it's proper 70s I don't know, would would would traveling around to see the grateful dead be part of that whole thing? So this is all a way for them to channel their anger into something more meditative and fluid, and what they do to achieve that is the practice of martial art. For them, any acts of violence need to be contained in an art form so that it's predictable and effective. In the original editions, they would seek out Gaia's secrets in the world at large to not only better learn about her, but also figure out how to save her. In fifth edition, it's established that Gaia is either completely dead or seconds away from absolute death. The children of Gaia refuse to believe this, and not only do they seek out her mysteries, but also formulate evidence in proving that she lives. That's just sad, man.
SPEAKER_03It's kind of oh man. So they're really huffing the copium that hope oh yeah, no, our god's totally still alive.
SPEAKER_00You know. I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna be nice and say they just have a lack of information and not pure copium, which I don't think is true, but I would like to believe that to be true.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. You know what? That's that's that's a nice way to think of it. Also, fighting a werewolf. Imagine fighting a werewolf and it whips out kung fu moves.
SPEAKER_03Yes, if it wasn't bad enough that you were fighting a werewolf, then it it pulls out a pair of nunchucks and starts styling on your ass. It's like great. Could you just eat my face now, please? This is embarrassing for me.
SPEAKER_00You don't need to beat my ass like a ninja turtle. I'm already nothing.
SPEAKER_03And you're already a werewolf.
SPEAKER_06I thought I was gonna get eaten, but but but it just broke out some Bruce Lee shit and then left.
SPEAKER_03Save us both some time and rip out my jugular, please.
SPEAKER_06God The uh the totem in the old editions and the spirit in fifth edition are the same, which is Unicorn. Unicorn exists as a spirit that exists as an unknowable mystery that must be sought out, much like peace. Unicorn's ban forbids a member of the children of Gaia from lying for their own personal gain. They're just uh they're too pure. They're too pure for this world. They're too relaxed and chilled out.
SPEAKER_03So they can't lie for their own personal gain, but if they have to lie to help people, they absolutely will. Like if they're like, oh yeah, no, Gaia's totally still alive. I'm lying out of my house, Gaia's totally dead.
SPEAKER_06That or no, officer, I didn't see someone running out with a a loaf of bread. That sort of lie. Just, you know, just if it's if it's for the good of other things, it's probably fine. That's interesting. I'm not sure, and I would hope that that's the case. So, archetypes-wise, we've got sore bones, patching people up on the fly who need it and can't afford it. Secrecy is appreciated on both ends. There's also dealer, whether it's goods or secrets, a dealer is always looking to expand their horizons and loves to help others who wish for the same. There's also Wayfarer, always on journeys either in the physical world or the spiritual world. They travel in places where others may not because there's always something to learn. And minor, deep in the earth, those who yearn for the mines also yearn to uncover things once lost. Very nicely slipped in there, Possum. Well done. Yeah, like that. They yearn for the mines, man.
SPEAKER_01Cause it's Minecraft. Hello, come on.
SPEAKER_06I know why, why?
SPEAKER_02It's just that werewolf jockey. Yeah, it's Jack Black, known inventor of Minecraft.
SPEAKER_03Obviously. Fucking idiot. Did you say idiot? Yeah, I said fucking idiot, by the way.
SPEAKER_00In case the mic didn't pick that up. I said fucking idiot. Fog has just rolled over my brain. Oh god.
SPEAKER_06Such a brave boy who swears on the internet. Um, okay. We're gonna move on to the Gale Stalkers. I believe this is e-bank. I've already lost track. They just abandoned me.
SPEAKER_00Uh oh dear. Tell you what, I'll give you a head start. Hide where you want. Just wherever you want. Doesn't matter. See you soon.
SPEAKER_03Alright. I somehow don't think they're gonna have the noble upstanding rules that the last two had.
SPEAKER_00No, I feel like Murder. Murder. Yeah. So true.
SPEAKER_06Some of the tribes may not exist from the old editions to the new edition, but others only exist in the new edition without having a comparable equivalent in the older ones. The Gale Stalkers are one of these tribes. There are many interpretations as to what constitutes being a garrow in the purest of senses, and the Gale Stalkers believe in the hunt. A sacred act that is instinct to the beasts of the land, the hunt allows for focus on the prize, attention paid to the surroundings, and a deep knowledge of territory. In order to be a masterful hunter, one must pay attention to everything around them at all times and be ready for even the slightest of changes. Unfortunately, such vigilance can result in being seen as a bit distant at best or terribly concerning at worst, but the other Garou do see a great benefit in the existence of the gale stalkers. If you need something taken care of, be it a place or a person, a gale stalker can get it done more effectively than others. A hunter has many different types of prey to go after, and the variety of prey can result in some inner conflicts regarding what is or isn't a priority. Their spirit is the North Wind, a violent force of nature that stresses patience and also grit in lieu of its unstoppable nature. The catch comes in the form of its ban. Gail stalkers must partake in a kill each and every day. Oof.
SPEAKER_03Oh, alright, that's that's cool. Also, the the human form, only two of those look like they would actually be Gale Stalkers. The lady is just taking a massive fucking hit. Um, like she is just the vapors are crazy. And the other one is like, looks like a college student that just kind of rolled out of bed and is still wearing like fuzzy slippers or like pink slippers, and it's like, really? You're the you're the gale stalker that needs to kill someone every day? It's not your that's true. I mean, who else? You know, very unsuspecting and you know get the drop on you.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't really matter what clothes you're wearing when you go werewolf and they all rip off, anyways. That's true. When you go werewolf and you look like these things.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, who fucking cares if you wear pink fuzzy slippers in the day?
SPEAKER_00And anyone who says anything about it is going to be that is kill.
unknownSo true.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you want to know why I wear the pink slippers?
SPEAKER_06Here's why pink. Now, to to be fair, to be fair to them, the kill each day, it doesn't have to be their own kill. So they can, you know, they can assist. If they if they get if they get a kill assist, then it counts, but uh it still has to be done every single day, and it must be fresh. So, you know, it's not like every single one of them is murdering something or someone every single day of the year. They might get together and, you know, hunt something down as a as a group. That might also still be a person, but you know.
SPEAKER_00Alright, I mean I that you know, that limits it to, you know, like a potential of just one. That's that's better than nothing.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it does limit it to a potential of one, but you're telling me all of them are getting together and assisting on one kill every day? Well, really.
SPEAKER_06Look, I'm trying to I'm trying to find the the positive in the we in the a murder a day gang, right?
SPEAKER_00I think sometimes you just you just gotta accept them for what they are, man. Do like vampires count just out of curiosity? You know, that's technically not alive, but like, you know.
SPEAKER_05That's a good question. What a vampire count.
SPEAKER_00It is just a kill. So as long as it's dead, and he's if it's prey, that's it. I mean, hey, that's that's you know, you can channel that into being productive in the world of darkness. You could. Yep.
SPEAKER_06We have been reliably informed that a werewolf can, what was it, punch the anus out of a vampire? So, you know, it's there's good work to be done here. If you're gonna if you're gonna have to murder something anyway.
SPEAKER_02Did we acknowledge that? Excuse me?
SPEAKER_06I don't remember it was it was something like that. I forget, I forget the exact wording, but it was it was it's something close to that.
SPEAKER_00As as as Shy has so you know elegantly put it, it could be anything, like say a parsum. A parsum, any parsum. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Perhaps a strawberry flavoured one. Indeed. Hmm. Interesting, interesting.
SPEAKER_06Uh archetypes-wise, we've got drifter, no place as home, and life is hard. Circumstances work against them all the time, but they don't wander due to being lost. They are following trails and usually hunting something. There's also Spirit Walker, some walk in the lands of the living, while others walk through the Umbra. They may seem distant to others, but they are peering beyond the gauntlet and finding greater prey. There's Gaucho with their trusty horse, these riders evoke the image of an era of legends as they drift off into the sunset. And for yet another hard swerve, leech stalker. The streets of the cities of man are filled with creatures disguised as humans. They call themselves kindred, but we call them leeches. They know the city better than anyone else, and hunting them only benefits the fight against the worm. There we go, we foreshadowed that really nicely. Look at that. See, they they are helpful sometimes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, vampires do count. Hooray.
SPEAKER_06Almost sounds like uh like an equality thing. Vampires do count, right? Vampires are people too, and as such, they die just because you're supposed to be killed by werewolves.
SPEAKER_00It's gotta be a really bad day when the vampire hunters can convince everyone to join in on the one kill a day thing, and 30 werewolves just come out of a corner on one of them. It's a very bad day for that vampire.
SPEAKER_05Oh, so bad.
SPEAKER_06Next up we have the Fianna, and uh, this one is for you, DK.
SPEAKER_03Uh the blood of heroes is on fire within us. The ghosts of our ancestors swell with pride to see us stand strong and true. The worm itself tremble when we howl. Ow. Bad you committed. Yeah, you got to. If you see, if you see that, you gotta commit. You can't just you can't just be like, ah, yes, the worm itself trembles when they howl. Aru. Can't do that.
SPEAKER_06You can't do it. You've heard me do that so many times. I don't know why you'd even suggest that that's not an option.
SPEAKER_03Either that or you have to be funny and pull a Futurama thing and be like the worm itself trembles when they hell. Oh. No in between.
SPEAKER_06It was like such a specific cut. So that's it's what Nixon does in in Futurama. No, no, no. Okay, no, now you've said it. Yep, yeah, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the voice actor, the voice actor's like, oh yeah, you know, that's not how Nixon talks. I just sort of, you know, portrayed Nixon as like a fucking werewolf and ow, I'm not a criminal. Ow. No, if I ever He never said that shit.
SPEAKER_00I need I need to have vampire Nixon as part of the campaign just so I can do that. Nixon's back. Oh true.
SPEAKER_06So the Fianna are the remnants of the Celtic tribes that unified due to the expansion of Rome. They were formed around that time. Though the hills of Ireland is home in their hearts, the Fianna have branched out and expanded around the world. Some of the Garu hide in the shadows, but the Fianna chose not to. Instead, they exist as the life of the party. Extroverted in their daily life, the love of parties and entertainment that these Garu have is well known because everyone is invited, so long as you know you're not an enemy of Gaia. Their extroverted nature expands beyond the realm of the Garou and into the world of spirits and other beings of the supernatural. In ancient times it's believed that they were descended from fairies, and they still keep court with the likes of the Fae. They wear hearts on their sleeves and their passions burn into everything they do. Hospitality is obviously what they're known for, and their totem embodies this. The stag is an embodiment of the wild power of nature, and the members of the Fianna are expected to help those who are fairies or changelings, or else they face a ban. Now we also have the heart wardens, and there's a very specific reason as to why we don't have any archetypes for the Fianna. So here you go, Pancreas.
SPEAKER_00Alrighty. Be welcome in our cairn. It is our hearth and home. Warm yourself at our fires and feed yourself at our table. A word of caution, friend. Oh dear. Abuse our hospitality and we'll string your innards up in all those lovely trees you see outside.
SPEAKER_03Sick.
SPEAKER_00Alright. I mean, it's good to set boundaries. It's good to set boundaries.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty metal, honestly. You know, don't cross us, otherwise, you'll be added to the tree.
SPEAKER_00My dog has walked up the the moment I said the string your innards up, and I'm now wondering if I own a werewolf.
SPEAKER_06Well the curse is real. So the Fianna are one of the tribes that in fifth edition do not exist in the same way. In their place, the heart wardens exist. The heart wardens prioritize a sacred form of housekeeping in that they are charged with the protection of cannons. They protect the lifeblood homes of the Garu by also protecting the oral traditions of their kind while practising in the sharing of the storied history. Be it the telling of tales in an oral tradition sense, singing songs or putting on elaborate performances, they strive for history to be remembered in any way possible, because the Garu are only as strong as their roots. They are bound to being as hospitable and welcoming to guests in their cairns as possible so long as they follow the guidelines and rules. Much like the Fianna, their spirit is stag. Stag is pretty much the same as it was for the Fianna, except its ban is different. A heart warden must never let harm come to those who seek, and have been shown hospitality by them. You know, unless you unless you break the rules and don't use a coaster, in which case, fair game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, I mean that's only fair if you stain my nice wood furniture, I'm going to that's a completely valid crash out. Yep. God, those are some majestic looking werewolves, though. God damn. I know what you are, a person who drew that art. Yeah, they're an artist, Pank. Of course.
SPEAKER_03They're an artist.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think the artist drew that one-handed.
SPEAKER_03That's that's some talent, to be fair. If they are and they did, ooh, man. Imagine what they could do with two. I don't think we need to imagine that. I'd rather not.
SPEAKER_06Crazy. Archetypes-wise, we've got uh we've got the huntsman. The populations of wildlife need to be balanced, and a hunter knows how to balance these scales to assure for natural order to be retained. We also, this is again, such an insane uh switch up. Digital cow and strategist. Huh. Like huntsman to that i is a hard left turn. Uh a home needs to be protected. In urban life, this is through cameras and alarms, but for the forests, it's the spirits that need to be communed with to expand the fog of war and push back any threats. Then for an for another severe shift, we have MC. Stories are told in music, whether it's fully understood or not. An MC can hype up the crowd, diss rivals, and keep the party going through the night. And then we have local legend. Scary places tend to have stories of creatures that go bump in the night, monsters whose names prevent those from exploring further. In truth, this is just a security measure. So a wide breadth of archetypes there for the Heart Wardens.
SPEAKER_03I mean, to be fair, I kind of get it, since they're like the protectors of Hearth and Home, right? Like, you know, it an MC is just a modern bard. And like the the the digital one is just again it's like a a a modern home protector so like I I get it I see it it is qu quite the left turn um from you know the the hunter but like yeah I I see it I see the vision I I think it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Especially depending on the year this takes place in, you know uh yeah digital security is a thing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah amen brother they've got all the bases covered that's that's for damn sure now we have the glass walkers and this is this is uh this is U DK in it probably I'm sure look a city's like any other spider web there are sticky strands and there are clean strands.
SPEAKER_03If you stay on the clean strands you don't get caught and you have a good foothold in case you need to cut something loose don't want to be on those sticky strands no no one wants that no one wants to be stuck on the sticky strands.
SPEAKER_06Not on a spider web anyway the bone gnawers might be the might might be known for the ones with the street smarts, but it's the glasswalkers who are the true wolves of Wall Street. Instead of embracing pure tradition and hiding from the industrialization of the globe, the Glasswalkers embrace these changes, be it new technologies or civilization as a whole there is a love for humanity and its creations among the Glasswalkers that goes all the way back to the Imperium. During that time when the purges were happening, the Glasswalkers were the earliest supporters and defenders of humanity as a whole and even though they were right about this the whole time, they have always been viewed by other Gary with a heavy degree of suspicion and untrustworthiness. The efforts of humanity and the technologies they've invented have had an incredible amount of impact on the spiritual world and the Glasswalkers believe that communing with these modern day spirits is just as important if not more important than communing with the spirits of nature. And in order to better commune with these spirits they seek out positions of power so they can be more intertwined with them. In their eyes it's best to know the enemy they wish to eradicate more intimately and the Glasswalkers are much more attuned to seeing the influence of the worm in the modern era than the other Garu, meaning that they are essential to have by your side when trying to figure out the depths of the worm's horrific influence. There's a recurring joke online that the Glasswalkers are a tribe of werewolves with an HR department and there is actually a degree of truth to that. So in the editions of old the Tosim of the Glasswalkers was cockroach, a resilient creature of the earth that can not only survive in the cities of man, but also thrive. Its ban was just don't kill cockroaches That's it that yeah that's the that's the whole thing.
SPEAKER_00Oh boy I mean to be fair you see one of those scuttling around and following that ban is going to be like okay I really gotta I can't do it.
SPEAKER_03I can't do it I want to but I can't do it I mean have have you ever seen a cockroach immediately I mean usually if you have like bug spray or something because you know it's there, but if you just happen across one you can try and try and kill that thing but like those things scuttle away and survive damn near anything. So you might have a hard time even you know I'm just saying those little fuckers it's uh it is it is a weird one compared to all the others though.
SPEAKER_06All the others are like you must help someone you can't ignore people who need help don't lie. This one is simply you don't don't kill cockroaches. How is that relevant to anything that we that that you do? Oh it's not okay cool.
SPEAKER_03Don't do that pretty pretty easy easy one not to accidentally do. Yeah. I wonder if any of them have accidentally ever killed the cockroach they're like oh man uh I have a ant infestation in my house let me fumigate you accidentally kill like a bunch of cockroaches and it's like oh shit you know that's that's gotta be like a a really awkward meeting with the HR department.
SPEAKER_06I mean it says here you killed a hundred cockroaches I had no idea that there even were any in the house. I j I mean what do you want me to do? Yeah now in fifth edition it stated that their spirit was once the cockroach but it fell to the worm's influence resulting in the tribe having to eradicate it the irony oh no twisted the twisted irony of don't kill any cockroaches and then having to oh it's trap kill the most important one the alpha now their spirit is spider another creature of Earth known for surviving and thriving in the city a spider is far more industrious the crafting of its web is a natural form of urban development with extended planning taken into account. Its intricate nature is also the groundwork for its ban glasswalkers may not destroy complex technologies that it's so different to don't kill cockroaches really funny so how's that monitor of yours right now Kiriar has he returned he's not he he hasn't come back I haven't seen him since which is if anything more concerning for all I know that's you know there's a whole family that's been set up in a corner somewhere that I have no idea about but for now for now we're clear oh man have you have you ever seen a spider egg hatch Kira?
SPEAKER_03I have it's awful the way it's the way it just sort of is like a black rain. Yeah you ever see that Kira? I've not seen that at all it's awful man that's in your walls dude I stepped on a spider once that was apparently had many eggs on its back and oh no oh no and and then I ran inside to go get grandma yep that's fair justified reaction take her don't take me well I meant more for the poison you know but you know I I guess if it was a choice sorry grandma I'm like nine I got a lot of life left in me she's had her time I'm on the young I love that Pegasus is like obviously I went to grandma to figure out where the pesticide was and Kirith was like ah yes ritualistic spider sacrifice because her time is done crazy dude I started doing the live action Scooby-doo chant and everything wild carry out the wild sometimes you just go make the call all right I'll be honest I kind of I kind of like the cockroach thing more too shy because I don't know I don't know if I just spider is kind of like ah it's spiders are cool but like I feel like they've even even in like the 70s and 80s it was like as a symbol that's kind of overused in it so I don't know but Shy says uh I will be honest I'd like cockroaches more it's one rule was not to kill cockroaches and would also give magic power to just about anyone and it says that cockroach does not give a fuck about Gaia and plans to survive and watch the worm's minion turn on themselves and devour each other as cockroach survives with his brood.
SPEAKER_06Yeah I think that's a lot cooler too honestly I actually agree you've you've sold me on cockroach that's that's that's way more fun. Yeah spiders kinda like yeah don't don't mess with technology and yay and I don't know yeah I think I think cockroach a bit more unique also an agent of chaos which I always like archetypes wise we've got urban planner you don't tell people where to go you guide them and make them think it was their decision in the first place. Ah the uh the the IKEA approach the flow of people is like fixing the flow of traffic and the cleaning of pollution to allow for Gaia's presence to return. Fixing the problems allows you to see those who wish to obstruct it much better. Then the car liberator The what liberator? The car as in as in drivable vroom vroom okay I alright yes this is weird but um well consider yourself liberated um machines can be mistreated like nature and their spirits feel pain. Vehicles are one of these machines and the ones treated poorly or manufactured for nothing more than vanity feed the worm against their will. They are to be freed that's fucking weird like even by the standards of this setting that feels weird. That does so these guys are just really out here like if they see a Lambo just run by they are they are heated they gotta liberate that bitch man gotta liberate that uh yeah that's that's definitely why they're doing it this is a spiritual motivation from Gaia and not I would quite like that Lamborghini Well they they live how does one liberate a car do they just flatten it destroy it blow it up or did they just steal it and use it for themselves they rip you out of the window and then start driving consider yourself liberated let's go I'm a guardia let's go fucking love GTA the crime and the game officer I carjacked the Lambo for religious reasons yes I totally don't you don't understand your honor that Bigassi was in terrible pain I had to I had to take it away it was screaming could you not hear it honestly when you get pulled over and you roll down the window be like do you know how fast you were going just turn into a werewolf and be like tell me how fast was I going this is my new favourite group of werewolves this this alone I I immediately have gone from this is uh maybe too weird to the rabbit hole has immediately grabbed me like now I want to know like just as an example so on my on my uh on my previous car I took the turbo off it and I put a slightly bigger turbo on it is that car as a result of that would that in this world be in pain because it had been like modified for and it was technically a purpose but it it was mostly you know for fun of it but for no real reason other than that is that would that be like say you like you you buy like a like you get yourself a proper like classic Dodge charger or whatever and you supercharge it and you put a scoop on it like you do a proper blow and a proper scoop and everything is if you ruined that car's spirit forever. Yeah is it bad for the car? Because that's crazy.
SPEAKER_00Well it's gonna be bad for you when they come to get you to liberate the car from you. I'm not a former US Marine buying it at 150% API so Dodge Charger doesn't quite hit for me.
SPEAKER_03It's a very specific cut dude I know the exact person you're talking about. Yeah I know a few of those people I think everybody in America is like oh yep yep you're so right one friend like that.
SPEAKER_06You're so right Peg I know a guy I think I think the UK equivalent is probably someone from Bradford or Birmingham buying a Volkswagen golf R and then fitting countless bad modifications to it and ensuring that it gets written off immediately. That that's that's a definite there's a whole stereotype for that I feel like every country's probably got like roughly equivalent car crimes where it's just you shouldn't have done this. How do you just brother in in my college parking lot I remember seeing uh the the best body kit I've ever seen because the the front fender part uh was being held on with twist ties just white off colored twist hell yeah on a black fender dude I was like that's crazy dude you see every now and again the car that doesn't have a window it has duct tape yeah and it's the trash bag yeah yeah liberate me liberate me that our spirit is screaming in case oh I love this group yep new favorite the the realm of hellish body of you know car body mods and drunk driving with a werewolf lady with a spider tramp stamp like please please let me in literally literally two words is made this lot my favorite just just car liberator we're in that's it these are the guys these are the ones that are the best there are there are uh two other archetypes though there's detective the stories of the streets tend to be ripe with tragedy and chasing these stories can lead to something great fine tattoo artist urban artists give marks of renown to others and skin can serve as a canvas of deeds of misdeeds histories and untold stories fine none as good as Carly Brea someone from this werewolf tribe and it's going to one shot me now we have the red talons I think this is you Pancreas I would rather die than see a world without wolves I will gladly kill to prevent it. Yeah I mission statement secured uh Roger that chief clear concise and to the point you you you just there's none of them that's like oh I don't know if they really look like they fit the build nope that check and check I see ribs that dog has mange plea all right this kill that wolf on the right specifically it's clearly past its due date oh yeah we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna get to gonna get to that mangy wolf so uh show of hands do you hate humanity and how it's influenced and invigorated the worm and has directly caused harm to Gaia and is actively putting all known reality at risk well if you do the red talons are for you they uh they stand as the complete polar opposite of the Glasswalkers in their eyes the Imperium was a mistake a big mistake too many humans survived in the Imperium and they need to keep they they need to get those numbers up the triumphs of humanity are built on the rising body of Gaia who is choking to death because of it. Though almost all other Garu have come to terms with the fact that humanity is necessary and must be kept around, the Red Talons do not believe this to be true. They also don't believe that the true problem is the worm. They believe that the weaver is at fault for all of the hell they're dealing with and it should be handled with the same vigour that other tribes handle the worm. In fact, some members of the Red Talons even utilise some worm-based rituals and tech to help them with their goals against the weaver. In both the old and newest edition the totem slash spirit of the Red Talons is a griffin, an apex predatory beast that thrives in the wilds of myth and legend. Red Talons must never utilize technologies made by man or else they will face a ban. I mean you better hope that the that like that that like ammo vest or whatever that woman's wearing was made by a werewolf or a vampire or whatever then. Because uh just saying Yeah I mean it probably was say that archetypes wise we've got bounty hunter some that require captivity but they escape. These escapees need to be caught but to the red talons all humans should be captives we're getting a good feel for this lot of thing. What was the mistake not finishing the job the mistake was that some survived yeah if we weren't already getting a good feel for them uh the second archetype is man eater sure again I got some ideas. I don't think you need to elaborate on this one carry out waking up from a first change smelling human blood can be difficult for some but some love the smell and some will hunt humans just to smell the blood once more I mean yeah yeah uh there's also prepper humans will fall eventually and in their comfortable bunkers they look forward to it greatly and then we've got another hard swerve right now a plague dog. Oh that mangy dog has come to play. That's on purpose then it seems like it is some say a bark is worse than a bite but some have a bite that is infectious that allows for territory to get reclaimed so uh yeah a full-on intentional mangy disease ridden wolf scenario well that's nice that's an image of the fish with human teeth and it's screaming war no oh well that's you know the that might be the most specific thing that I've never I've never heard of before.
SPEAKER_03Look that's what these guys remind me of this is them oh that one okay I I I have seen that I don't know what I was thinking but yeah okay I I I gotcha now I gotcha. For some reason I was thinking like the the big mouth bass or like for some reason the first thing that popped in my head was like a goldfish and like a cartoon fishbowl. I was like what the fuck is Kira talking about? Kiri off or or panked you know what I mean someone said something and it was someone said a thing whatever dumb fucking mouth someone brought this damn image back to life you know it's fine okay next up we have the silent striders I think this is you DK I've been everywhere man and let me tell you you're gonna want to hear this vague very vague vague and ominous striders my uncle also somewhat at odds with the name Silent Stridus sounds like they really want to tell you about they really want to talk it's that that it's that one uncle at Thanksgiving that's like no dude you get you can't talk about that you gotta being solitary can take many forms.
SPEAKER_06Some can hide comfortably in the forests of Gaia while others can slip by unnoticed in the alleyways. Others are forced into a life of isolation and instead of hiding their curse is to wander forever. In the old lore the origins of the Silent Striders were based in Egypt where they were cursed by the vampire known as to leave and wander forevermore, while in fifth edition it is merely an ancient spirit who put this curse on them. Regardless of the cause the symptoms remain the same. They are nomads that are forced not only to wander the world of the living but also wander the Umbra as well. Their journeys do have a purpose though. Those who travel are curious and will constantly learn while doing so and their focus on the world of spirits and even the dead has a goal as well. They believe the ability to break this curse must be hidden somewhere in long dead histories. Some are globetrotters while others kind of ping pong between a few familiar places as a means to almost game the system. Their constant moving around does impact their social lives and their ability to interact with other tribes and Garo. Garou are very much group oriented so a wandering stranger really isn't high up there on the list of things they trust. The shitty thing here is the fact that the Silent Striders don't really have much say in the matter when it comes to this and their movements are based less on intent and more on being you know fucking cursed which sucks Yeah yeah you said it Garu however Garou however naturally love to learn things and will gladly take any information provided by a member of the Striders especially stuff built on the spirits. Of course on the flip side Garou don't wish to disclose anything willingly to a strider either because they know the next people they encounter are probably going to get the tea. The tome and spirit of these riders is Owl, swift with wisdom and stealth by nature. Owl is a beast that can glide through the world unseen while also being tied to the underworld. The difference between the totem and the spirit comes in the form of its ban. In the old editions the ban required silent striders to leave offerings of rodents for Owl's kin to eat. In 5th edition this was changed so the ban requires any member of the Silent Striders to commemorate any death they either actively participate in or witness second hand. They must do so in a ritualistic manner. That feels weirdly harsh like if you if you're just wandering around And some some guy doesn't look twice before crossing the road and gets blitzed by a bus. You've got to go off and do a ritual to remember them? Come on now. You're only having to leave.
SPEAKER_03Well, I was gonna say that's not so bad, but I guess in World of Darkness, you probably see a lot of people die on just random, weird ways. So they're probably putting up a lot of r they're probably sick and tired of it. Like, this is why we're always on the move. Sick and tired of doing rituals for people.
SPEAKER_06I mean, they could just be walking out of a city when 20 werewolves can get upon and and murder a vampire. And so just like, don't even bloody like vampires, and I've got to go away and do a ritual about this. I just want to I just want to get out of here. Well, no, I don't want to get out of here. I am supernaturally compelled to get out of here because I'm fucking cursed.
SPEAKER_03I wonder if they like if there was one of these guys in like say a gang fight broke out between werewolves and vampires, and like a hundred people from both sides died, do they have to do a hundred rituals, or do you think they just gotta do one ritual for like the mass of death that just happened?
SPEAKER_06It feels like it's gotta be. No, it can't be, it can't be, it can't be one ritual per death.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it could god in World of Darkness. That's a shitty one to have, actually. There's so much death. It's ritual. Five seconds, sorry, he died, sorry, he died, sorry, he died, sorry, he died.
SPEAKER_00Just increase population. You gotta find a way to make that a lot more concise.
SPEAKER_03You just see this one one out, dude's just like, sorry it happened, sorry it happened, sorry it happened, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
SPEAKER_00Maybe you just they just write all their names on a postcard and burn it and like that's it. That's there's your ritual.
SPEAKER_03They just do the head-shoulder cross thing every time, they don't even say anything anymore.
SPEAKER_06Oh god. You could extrapolate out to make it so bad. Turn on the telly, there's footage of a plane crash. I mean, you saw it.
SPEAKER_03Oh no. It's like, what do you mean eight thousand people died? God, I'm gonna be here all week.
SPEAKER_06That's a fucking big plane. That's a massive plane for 8,000 people. Second ritual has struck the werewolf tribe.
SPEAKER_05Oh no.
SPEAKER_06So the archetypes for this lot are kinseeker. There may be some who have the potential of becoming a Garou latently in their blood. They may not know their nature, but they will need help finding it. Ambassador, old grudges must be put to rest in order to allow for new alliances. That seems like a pretty chill one to be fair. Revivalist, salvation is something to be spread to the masses. Love and forgiveness can be taught and embraced from khan to khan. Eh, and uh and then it's traditional, you gotta have the hard left swerve. Long haul trucker. We're back, we're so back, so bad.
SPEAKER_02Jesus Christ. Well, they are travelers, like you know, this is a modern day traveler. This is Hauland, rather.
SPEAKER_06That's true. So uh long distance riders see the whole of Gaia's creation and they can assure that items of aid to her are delivered, while others mysteriously get lost. I'm assuming working as independent contractors, because uh if you work for a company and things that might be harmful for Gaia suddenly disappear out the back of your lorry, you're not gonna have that job for long, are you? That's gonna be a case of the boss would love to know why certain shipments just don't get delivered by you. Anything to say on the matter? Because they're trashing our planet. Ask me again in two hours. I saw a car crash on the on the way home. Oh no.
SPEAKER_03Boss wants to know why the shipman was late by eighteen hours. Well, you see the horrific like fire that tore through a city?
SPEAKER_06You can't drive and pray. There's laws about this or something. Uh now, we now have the uh the silver fangs. This is you, Pangreas.
SPEAKER_00I ask nothing of you that you should not want to give for Gaia. Stand with me, and she may yet be saved. Okay. We we might go back to the delusions.
SPEAKER_06That'd be nice, actually. Sorry, folks. So we went a very long time without mentioning the whole Alpha and Amiga thing with wolves, and so now we have to break the seal. And no, I'm not doing the noise. The Silver Fangs are Do the noise, Kiriad.
SPEAKER_03Come on.
SPEAKER_06The Silverfangs are the natural born leaders of the Garou. And some believe that quite literally. Uh like they believe Gaia herself appointed the Silverfangs to be the leaders of the Garu. The nature of their leadership is a closely guarded secret and is something that has cursed them long ago. It was believed that the spirit Luna demanded that a king from the Silverfangs could only rule for seven years at a time and no more. One rather bold Silver Fang tried to manipulate the length of his leadership by shifting his pledge to a different spirit. This ambitious rigging of an election resulted in Luna's demand being turned into a curse, forcing them to follow this seven year thing, whether they like it or not. The differences between the Silver Fangs of old and the ones in fifth edition come down to how Garu come to be. In the older lore, the kinfolk were a thing, and the tribes of Garu came down to their bloodline. The Silver Fangs are distinguishable thanks to their ivory coloured fur, and in the past they would mingle with royal family bloodlines to assure to ensure that their lineage was tied to nobility. This resulted in their bloodline being more curated and specific to ensure a degree of royal purity, if you if you catch my drift.
SPEAKER_03Yeah that's not great. That's not great. Don't love that.
SPEAKER_00Not not the best. I thought we did away with the eugenics. What happened?
SPEAKER_03Well, on the plus side in that first picture, that that werewolf is crushing a Nazi tank, so that's you know, that's good. That's pretty poggers, I guess.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Well, it's crushing the tank, but also being like, uh, they're not wrong about everything.
SPEAKER_03Don't oh boy, don't love that. I'm not a fan.
SPEAKER_06Moving on. Uh in fifth edition, Garou seemingly just come out of nowhere, and so do the ones with brilliant ivory fur. They suffer a bit more in fifth edition thanks to the collapse of the Garou Nation, and they are working tirelessly to rebuild it, as it was a testament to their former power. Ultimately, those who are silver fangs believe that they know what's best for anyone under them, no questions asked. Leadership runs through their veins, and you would be best served to follow them. Their totem and their spirit is Falcon, a noble-looking bird that cuts through the skies like a tact and precise knife. Honour and nobility is in your bloodline as a silver fang, and to dishonour yourself is a ban in the eyes of Falcon. Now, archetype-wise, we've got the local celebrity, a career made out of connections, a network of locals who will take them in even if they're at their lowest. Their appearance thrives off of maxed out cards and countless owed favours. Nice little bit of uh satire on the you know the state of celebrity in modern life. Very nice, very nice. Yep, yep, yep. Hetman, not all wars that are fought are covered in the media, and these wars can be endless. Violent volunteers can be turned into organized fighters so long as you're a charismatic leader. There's also the the glory days quarterback. Winners never quit, quitters never win. Got hurt, put some dirt on it and get back on the pitch. The games may be over, but the energy of those glory days can be translated into leading a new generation. And again, slight slight curveball. Noble in exile. Nobility runs with the silver fangs, but this doesn't mean it's always embraced. Though they were once a reputable leader, they have found their way into indulgement, hurting their reputation. Oh. Okay. Cool. Yeah, yeah, you gotta ha you've gotta have a left field option. We we know this at this point.
SPEAKER_03So just just just exiled noble, huh? It's just one of the things they are. Just just in excess noble that really?
SPEAKER_01Are you sure that's not like one of the bans that happens to you? Like when you dishonor yourself? Like alright.
SPEAKER_06Man, I that that art discount battle beast is not doing it for me, I'll be honest.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm not I'm not a huge fan of that one either. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Now, next up we have the Shadow Lords. Um I I have probably lost track now. This is one of you. DK, isn't it? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Of course I have a plan. Someone needs to do the thinking around here. Now, are you interested in winning this fight? Or were you looking forward to a glorious face first charge into a wall of silver bullets? Nice.
SPEAKER_06Alright. Already already like that attitude. Already like it. Uh sometimes the best way to make your way to the top is through deception and cunning. The worm is a beast that needs to be beaten at all costs, and whatever it takes to do so is fair game. But how can you stab at an idea? How can you murder something with endless bureaucracy as a brutal shield? The only way to get close to the true enemy is to hide in its shadow, and the shadow lords are masters of the dark. They, like the Glasswalkers, like positions of power, but ruling outright makes no sense for them. They wish to pull the strings and advise without being seen in the light. As manipulation is their most powerful asset, they struggle when it comes to direct combat, and violence serves no other purpose besides being a true last resort. This should come as absolutely no surprise, but the masterful manipulators of the Garou are not viewed in the most trustworthy of lights, and are not viewed as masters of their craft so much as they're viewed as cowards. But Shadow Lords don't really care. They will gladly wear that badge over anything else. Being extremely underestimated is the best kind of shielding a puppet master can have. In the original editions, their totem is Grandfather Thunder. Grandfather Thunder Thunder?
SPEAKER_05What the fuck is that? Alright.
SPEAKER_06Way better. Thunder is as powerful as it is foreboding and is to be taken seriously no matter how distant. Do not pay others with more respect than they have earned, or else suffer is ban. That's quite that's quite a fun one. I quite like that. The archetypes. We've got Boya, their lineage can be traced back to nobility, but this nobility has fallen. Greedy nobles from rival families had taken the strength of his lineage but underestimated its survival. Then we've got hacktivist digging the dirt on others can result in them being buried in that dirt, be it spiritual or digital digging, they have one goal, information. Again, the the the shift up.
SPEAKER_03Midnight terror. Oh wow, we go from hacktivist to midnight terror. Let's let's go, dude.
SPEAKER_06An area is haunted by a monster in the darkness of night. All who are unfortunate to walk in the shadows are reduced to a trail of blood.
SPEAKER_05Wow.
SPEAKER_06Alright. Holy. Yeah, let me be a swirling mask too. God damn. I think we got propaganda there. I think we I think we got sold a lie, especially since the next archetype is assassin. Leaders don't wish to get their hands dirty as they continue to rise upwards. Killing these enemies for a lord helps this path, of course, but it's also only done by the person generous enough to hold the blade. The leader may be in charge, but the knife can easily turn.
SPEAKER_03Also, that Grandfather Thunder card now that was drawn with one hand. Look at the app that was. Those other ones were just like, ah, maybe. I don't know. There's they're still really good. This one for sure, one-handed. You could grind meat on those things. Yeah. When they turned in that art, they were like, Why are the pages stuck together on these giraffes?
SPEAKER_00Oh dear God!
SPEAKER_06Oh god. Okay. What what a thing to move on to when the next three words are the pure tribes. Hmm. Love to see. So we've got the Uktena, the Wendigo, and the Croatan. And this is oh yeah, no, we'll split these into two. Um so pancreas.
SPEAKER_00We were not given eyes, ears, and a mind so we could stay blind, deaf, and ignorant. You don't like what you see, but that's exactly why we must look on it.
SPEAKER_05Alright, alright. Okay, okay, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_06That seems that they seem pretty upstanding. Yeah, that's just a flat out wisdom right there.
SPEAKER_03And then uh and then DK. Just because we've survived the treachery of your ancestor, that doesn't mean we've forgotten or forgiven. Count yourself lucky, there are greater enemies. From the Wendigo.
SPEAKER_06Slightly, slightly different tone there, but it's it's still it's still fairly upstanding, like you know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Here comes one of the bigger changes across editions, and this involves three tribes in total. And uh we we're about to we're about to see why. Uh in the Americas, in the old editions, there existed three tribes that referred to themselves as the pure ones, because they existed in the pure lands of the Americas before colonization. These tribes internally referred to themselves as the elder brother, the middle brother, and the younger brother. Their true tribal names in order were the Uktena, the Wendigo, and the Croatan. The Uktena were the largest of the pure tribes, and their borders covered large bits of North America, almost all of Central America and the northern tip of Southern America. The Croatan covered much of the east and northeast of America, and in the colder and more northern parts of the Americas were the Wendigo. When it comes to the functionality of the tribes, the Uktena were very welcoming and understanding of the people of this land as well and worked in a cooperative sense with them, making them far more accepting of different viewpoints and ideologies and allowing them to develop a deep connection with the Umbra. The Croatan were a little bit more adventurous, and their tightness with humanity made them a lot more agreeable to things like early forms of crop processing and manufacturing. The Wendigo were much more rigid and traditional, avoiding any potential worm influence with aggression and active defence in the event of encroachment on their histories and traditions. The Totem of the Octana was the Great Octana, which was a horned serpent whose ban required the Octenna to seek out secrets and histories. The Croatan spirit was Turtle, and Turtle's ban had to do with the honour of the land they had. They had to essentially turtle themselves in order to protect their lands, or else they would face its ban. And lastly, the Wendigo's totem aptly was Wendigo, a terrifying spirit of war. Above all else, the Wendigo tribe was to give aid to the natives of the Americas. Okay. Possum has explicitly said brace yourself for this, because it's going to be a bit much. Uh okay. Always nice when we get that sore warning, isn't it? In the 1600s, an aspect of the worm known as the Eater of Souls would gain enough power to manifest itself. The location where it manifested was in Roanoke, Virginia. To protect the potential end of days and stop the manifestation of the Eater of Souls, the entire Croatan tribe would sacrifice itself entirely, leaving only the word Croatan on a tree to mark where they once stood.
SPEAKER_01No way! No fucking way! We did a we did a detective ridiculous episode on this!
SPEAKER_06Yep. Turns out it was werewolves all along.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god! I was like, I was like Roanoke, I was like, damn, that's familiar. I think that sounds like dead Holy Shit!
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Well, I was reading this through, I read Crowatime, and I was like, that sound that sounds like I'm I've I'm sure I've seen that. Yeah! And then I then I looked it up and immediately went, There's no way they're gonna do that. They're not gonna do that all the-and yes, they did do that. They did do that.
SPEAKER_03They did do that. Damn! That's crazy.
SPEAKER_06I mean, mystery solved, right? Yeah, it was. They did not kill the eater of souls, only banishing it. And their absence in the Northeast meant that this section of the Americas was unprotected by the Garu as the Europeans arrived. The colonization of the Americas resulted in the Pure Tribes coming face to face with very well organized European Garu, who were driven by the same lust for conquering that their human counterparts had latched onto. These Garou would claim that the Pure Tribes were nothing more than savage worm worshippers and would claim the Khans of the Pure tribes violently. The Wendigo, not willing to interact with this new vicious enemy and also unwilling to adopt or adapt to some more modern things, would find themselves retreating into the depths of the cold far away from the prying eyes of the colonizers and their Garu counterparts. The Uktena would face the brunt of the impact of colonization, and their numbers would be horrifically reduced. Though their presence was deeply impacted, they would welcome anyone into their lands, including Garu that were not native, encouraging peace through understanding. That all just royally sucks. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I'm I'm still kind of blown away about that Roanoke thing, man. I d just wasn't re just wasn't ready for it. I was not ready for that. I was not ready for the fur full circle moment at all.
SPEAKER_06That art of the like that that's like con conquistador helm Garou is crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03What the hell? With the bat mantle? Giant bat mantle. Oh yeah. Metal assistant.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that's just another Garou, isn't it? That's just another werewolf that they've Yeah. Oh, I I I guess you're right. I guess it is. Imagine I mean, I thought it was a bat. I'm sure it has happened, but uh imagine seeing uh like a conquering army in that sort of era with that kind of equipment, who was using the skin of the enemy as a cloak. Like imagine a human trying to pull that. No. Like that that's just absolute lunatic behavior. It's just insane. A Garou skinning another Garou to wear its its pelt is exactly the same as a human skinning a human to wear them as a cloak. It's it's no different, and you cannot convince me otherwise.
SPEAKER_03We'd have to really boss baby this, right, Chai? Yeah. Okay, Night Lords, yeah. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Ooh.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes it needs to be done.
SPEAKER_06Someone the upsetting thing is I'm sure someone in the comments is going to be like, fun fact, that did happen. Here is proof. And I I just don't want to see that. But I mean, over the course of history, I'm sure it's sub boy. Someone's got to have been that sort of person, right, and in the position to do so. We'll do that. Yeah. Now, next up we have the ghost council. Shark's just just discovered Mantis concubines from Invincible. I I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's it's invincible. Ask Thrag.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so the Ghost Council. This is you, DK?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Sure. The greatest advantage lies in determining which weapon which weapons one's enemies deny themselves. Oh, that's an interesting quote. Sneaky.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Sneaky. Now we get to fifth edition, where these three pure tribes simply do not exist. In their place is the Ghost Council. Unlike their three counterparts, the Ghost Council is not tied to just the native peoples of the Americas. But are worldwide. They are defined by the burning and insatiable desire to learn. This desire results in them diving deep into the darkness of the Umbra to commune with the spirits directly, and they will also speak openly with other entities like vampires. The desire to learn is encouraged by all members of the Ghost Council as learning is the only way to figure out new ways forward, new ways to connect, and new ways to fight the worm. The Garu are facing extinction, and the Ghost Council believe that everything is on the table to fight back, even if it's taboo. Of the different tribes, the Ghost Council are the most diverse and spiritually intelligent, but they are viewed almost as being foolish for how much poking and prodding they do. Their spirit is the horned serpent, a mysterious creature that encourages the seeking out of mysteries. Indulge in your curious nature, or you will face a ban. One of those is just flat out either a mul uh monk or a cultist. I'm not sure which it is, but I have a feeling I know.
SPEAKER_03I really like the lady that's kneeling uh on the left. She looks cool with that with that like cloak with the horns on it and the the the sort of red dreadlocks. She looks cool as hell. I love that vibe.
SPEAKER_06You know what? We can actually we can actually chart out which of which of these are which. So we've got the contemplative residing in a monastery racked by the horror of their first change. They feel like they need to make amends for the rest of their lives, finding spiritual balance against the rage. I mean, that's clearly the dude in the uh in the robe. So I was gonna say gorge. Which one's that, Mickey? Yeah. Uh then we've got the saboteur, those with military experience know how to take any tool and use it against another, be it in the physical realm or the realm of spirits. Again, feel like that's very clear-cut.
SPEAKER_03The one with the spool that's setting up explosives, uh, and the military vest and fatigues. Yeah, I think I think that might be clear cut. Yep. You're never gonna guess which one this is. Which.
SPEAKER_06I don't know. It's a coin flip, really. It's kind of hard to tell. Those deeply connected to the world of spirits know the right thing to say and offer those entities beyond the veil. Not a trick, mind you, a genuine connection to the entities beyond. And finally, we have Shepherd. They were born into a culture that had been eradicated for generations and they have had enough. Their territories needed to be defended, as do the members of the tribe and their few human companions, against the repetition of history and against the fell hand of the worm.
SPEAKER_03As soon as you said shepherd, I wanted to interject as quickly as I could and say Rex, uh, but I couldn't I couldn't do it fast.
SPEAKER_06Now we we have a challenge on our hands here because next up we have the get of Fenris or the cult of Fenris, which uh Possum has also put in brackets boss baby challenge level impossible. So whenever you want to get it out of your system, you go for it. Wave spawns. I've got uh I've got something for you to read here, Pancreas.
SPEAKER_00Oh. Pain is my lover, death is my sister, Gaia is my mother, and Great Fenris is my father. You have nothing for me to fear.
SPEAKER_03I don't love that pain is the lover. That's that's weird, brother. Yeah, man, me too.
SPEAKER_06Look, people like different things. They're out there. There'll be a few watching this who fully agree with that. It's just, you know. Um might makes right for some, and the get of Fenris embraced the Nordic ways of old. Members of the tribe who called themselves Fenrir were known as being some of the most hardened and true warriors in the history of the Garu. The thing is, they knew how desired they were and how good they were, and they were very prideful about it. Very, very prideful. They would focus on their warrior tendencies and frankly be difficult to get along with. And they really reinforced this. Oh yeah, that really is definitely not Mjolnius. My legally distinct hammer with Nordic runes on it. Totally. So this lot would truly grab the idea of might makes right and wear that as a badge of honour, and would not only use that as a way to judge the other tribes, but also themselves. Those who did not match their strength did not deserve their honour or respect, and those who were not warriors in the purest sense did not earn the right to stand in their ranks. In fact, a good portion of them got really into that purity thing. Oh no, not again. Really, really into that again. Umly head again. Oh, don't worry. It's it's it's worse. What do you mean?
SPEAKER_01I said eugenics rears its ugly head. How when do you ever counter with but it's so much worse than eugenics?
SPEAKER_06Well, it's look, there was just a good portion of them who saw someone fairly specific rise to power in the early 30s in Germany. Oh, we're back, oh we're back.
SPEAKER_00I was going to make a joke about the image above and them taking inspiration from the wrong group and then image, but little did I know I was a prophet.
SPEAKER_02No, curious, no, no.
SPEAKER_06This person always was also, you know, kind of kind of into the whole purity thing and the occult.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00And this man's name was Charlie Chaplin.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Um, so yeah, you know, just some of the some of the more easily swayed of the guest were like, you know what? Let's let's hear him out. I think there's something to something to learn here. Um as you can imagine, sort of did a number on them, causing a crisis of order in their ranks and resulting in purging out those who were so easily swayed by a monster that embodied the pure malice and horror of the worm. So at the very least, they did they did, you know, get rid of that lot. So that's something. That's good.
SPEAKER_03But you're right, it was it was worse than eugenics. You're right. We're just saying they had a couple of good ideas.
SPEAKER_06In fact, that's literally when we saw that picture before. That is literally what we said, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I don't oh boy, this races.
SPEAKER_02But oh no. Oh, it's gotten so much worse.
SPEAKER_01We were all having such a good time.
SPEAKER_06All those vampires moved in. It's it's fine, it's fine. We're gonna we're we're nearly done with the get of Fenris, so we're all we're all good. And you know, they they purged them, they got rid of them, they refused to let honor and glory in the name of Fenris be tainted with such horrors, but to other tribes the damage may have already been done. Their totem was Fenris, which embodied the thrilling glory of battle. Fenris Ban states that the Fenrir cannot turn down a fight. Now the Geta Fenris were reworked in fifth edition, and we had a good chat about their reworked counterpart in the previous episode, because they were viewed as being responsible for the collapse of the Garou Nation. The cult of Fenris did not like the stagnation of the nation, and did not believe in waiting to smash the heart of the worm with a mighty hammer. Some viewed them as reckless, and they viewed the rest of their kind as cowards. The cult would be caught in a state of collective hogolsk, which is the state of pure uncontrolled rage, and actively seek out purification. In their eyes, those who do not spend every single waking moment of their lives hunting the worm and its agents is impure and something that is hampering the final goal. Any influence of the worm must be completely and utterly purged, even if it is unintentional. Their spirit is wolf, and that's all that's known about it. No idea of its purpose or ban. The perpetual state of Hogols prevents any true knowledge of who this tribe once was. I mean, not great. No, definitely not great.
SPEAKER_00No amount of PR is gonna change the fact that this is the werewolf tribe, most likely to say you're one of the good ones. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Woof. I don't know. You you dip your toe into following your very specific world leader from the 1930s, and suddenly your reputation's in tatters. Crazy. Crazy.
SPEAKER_03Who could have seen this coming? Where did we go wrong?
SPEAKER_00Well, shy's making more absurd pictures.
SPEAKER_06I can't help but notice that all of Cult of Fenris guys have white furs are shy. Oh no, not I tell you what, let's move on to the target, shall we? There you go, DK. You read that.
SPEAKER_03Rage is a heavy smoke that coils around you and sinks its poison into your heart. You must recognize the burden on your back if you are to have any hope of standing up straight. It's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_06That's delightfully chill in comparison to what we've just been talking about. Hell yeah. I already like the Stargazers a lot. Um view isolation and introversion as a means of hiding, while the Stargazers view contemplation as a very strong tool against the worm. The meditative nature of these wise Garou is their weapon against it, and their ability to keep their rage completely under control to the point of almost never reaching a state of frenzy is alarming to many. Others view them as being weak or pushovers in that respect. Their distant and contemplative nature has made them very neutral over the course of Garou history, and their neutrality has really gotten under the skin of some of the others. Ah, so they're the they're the Switzerland of the Garo nation there. Um, I'd say that as a joke. They were neutral in the War of Rage. I forgot about that bit. Literally Yeah. And they were neutral during the Imperium. Uh though they see honour in their neutrality, they have been called cowards because of this, and their numbers have declined substantially. In the old and new editions of the game, the Stargazers left the Garou Nation, but under different circumstances. In the old editions, they left to join the Beast Court, which was a shapeshifter council of different species based in Asia. A council where famously, and for good reason, the Garou were not really welcome in. However, the Stargazers were offered an invitation to join, which they accepted. Their departure from the nation was exceptionally shocking. In fifth edition, they opted to leave the Garou Nation before its collapse and did not join the Beast Court. Instead, they became fully independent and isolationist. They had, in their mind, in their mind, found a way to fight the worm on their own terms. The other Garu believed that their departure was not an act of war against the worm, but instead an act of acceptance that the worm was going to win. They believed that the Stargazers were instead focusing on what was to come after the end of all things. The totem of the Stargazers in the old editions was Chimera, an enigmatic beast with many features that seemed to not connect to one another. In order to avoid her ban, the Stargazers had to seek enlightenment through any means possible. In fifth edition, their isolationist nature and attitude has made it so that their spirit is completely unknown. Ooh. Alright. Nice bit of uh not horrible mystery. Okay. That is such a a vast difference from the previous lot that I've got like emotional whiplash, but sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Going from literal neutrality, the cult, you know, from what Fenris was doing.
SPEAKER_00You were hiding werewolves under the floorboards, are you not?
SPEAKER_03You're hiding enemies of the state in your house? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just point to Zim.
SPEAKER_06Now we move on to, frankly, the best name so far, the Black Spiral Dancers.
SPEAKER_05Whoa!
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that is the best name so far. Sounds so good. And uh this is you, Pancreas?
SPEAKER_00Alright. You'll understand. Once you pass through the gates, your senses will be opened. You'll smell the reek of the rotting wounds, hear the voices under the skin of the earth. You'll see the truth about the world when the illusion is torn away. Come and dance with us. You'll understand.
SPEAKER_06Ominous. I was gonna say that. It's ominous as hell. That has got cult written all over it. I like it.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Oh boy, that's that's that's some art. That's hardcore art. So we're Mange here, back again with another one. Like, ooh.
SPEAKER_00You were hiding black spiral dances under six.
SPEAKER_06So the White Howlers once stood as a tribe that was deeply connected to the Umbra. They stood as spiritual masters, and when their homes were ravaged and destroyed by the Romans in ancient times, they chose to strike at the heart of the worm as a latched last ditch effort to die fighting. They would invade Malpheus, which is the domain of the worm in the Umbra. It was to be a glorious final battle, but the battle was lost. Not because of defeat, but because the White Howlers were lost in a prison of the worm's making known as the Black Spiral Labyrinth. They would wander in this cursed place that was steeped with the unimaginable horrors of the worm, clawing for an escape. The prolonged trapping within the labyrinth did horrible things to the minds of these Garu, and when they emerged, they were slaves to the worm. But not mindless slaves. They are a strong and terrifying force that serves its will. Oh cool. Saving the best will last. I can't fit her.
SPEAKER_00I can't fix her. I can't fix her.
SPEAKER_06But I'm gonna try. Again, the ab definition is crazy. Yeah. We've hired artists with a very specific set of skills. Um what on earth is this? Wow. I can't fix her.
SPEAKER_03Zizak and her black spiral dancer pack. That's wow.
SPEAKER_06Uh now known as the black spiral dancers, uh these Garou are driven by hatred and destruction, and the worm's corruption has clawed away at their souls. They ritualistically practice self-mutilation, and they are so steeped in corruption that they are barely recognizable as either human or garo. They add to their numbers by corrupting other Garou either through temptation or through force. In their old lore, their totem was whippo, which was a spirit of death proficient at camouflage in plain sight, and its ban had to do with the harming of butts. Again.
SPEAKER_03Really? Wow, alright. Look. I'll be honest, yeah, I wasn't even thinking of uh of bringing that up. Genuinely until you mention it, I was not thinking of boss babying this with a certain other god of excess in a chaotic realm. You know.
SPEAKER_06That's uh I'll you know, I've got I've got to give you I've gotta give you credit for that one. Yeah. Genuinely wasn't. Good job. We're healing. Yeah. The uh the biggest difference between the black spiral dances in the old editions and fifth edition has to do with their escape from the black spiral labyrinth. In this lore we learn of the spirit known as bat. It originally served as a spirit of the worm, but it would distance itself to serve the weaver after the worm's corruption. Bat would bind itself to the shifting were bats known as Camazots. However, the Camazots would be eradicated and purged during the War of Rage, and this resulted in Bat being driven to blind madness. In its grief it would fly into the heart of the Black Spiral Labyrinth. As the White Howlers wandered the endless labyrinth, the now corrupted bat acted as a spirit of torment to them and prolonged their suffering. Wow.
SPEAKER_04It would eventually get worse.
SPEAKER_06Yep. It would eventually guide them to the exit and would serve as the spirit of the Black Spiral dancers, but its intention and ban are and forever will be unknown. They do have a desire, though, to return to the labyrinth that caused them their corruption and face their now instinctual urge. Maybe then they can be fully unified with the worm, but some are not as insane or terrifying as their reputation insists. Some are smart, some are strategic, and some are truly the most powerful people in the world. I mean I'd buy it. Look at 'em.
SPEAKER_03I mean, yeah, I I I buy that. Yeah, they don't they don't look like good people. Or it's just people at all.
SPEAKER_00Or people at all. Crazy. I like the dragon lizard thing on the bottom right. He looks like he's filled with whimsy. Evil whimsy, but whimsy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Is that why is the are the mushrooms growing out of the the dragon the dragon lizard lizard bat b what think so? I think that's just the foreground. Oh, yeah, okay, no, yeah, that makes more sense.
SPEAKER_00There's also no background, so it is kind of hard to tell. That's true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's fair. Now we've we've we briefly mentioned there the some of the most powerful people in the world, potentially being black spiral dancers. Speaking of, before we go today, let's briefly talk about the most powerful thing in the world one last time, which is Pentex, the horrific company that serves as the worm made manifest on Earth. Of course, due to the actions of the Garu and the various tribes, executives in Pentex are taken out every so often, and uh there are often moves to elect new leaders. At one point, at the start of 2014, there was an opening for elections for subdivision director seats. Some of these candidates would prove their worth the tried and true way of going up the traditional corporate ladder, while others would take the more old school method of killing anyone who got in their way.
SPEAKER_03Still still love that propaganda art of the gamer with the gun in his pants getting his head chewed off by a fucking werewolf. Great way to sell your company.
SPEAKER_00Now this guy. Sorry, Pagus, go on. No, I'm j I'm just appreciating the propaganda poster again. Just I I really like the infinite pill bottle.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Oh, yeah. Of all the things in that picture, just the constant spilling of of of like petrol or diesel or whatever into what looks like a rising lake of it. Mm-hmm. That gets me more than anything else. Like for some reason that that seems even more kind of absurd than the wolf biting the head off, but only because it's it's not even slightly like this is an evil thing to do. It's so blatant, it's unreal.
SPEAKER_03Kira's like, have you seen the price of petrol and diesel? Imagine wasting that up to your knees. Fucking idiot. Come on, man. The child getting his head eaten off? That's whatever.
SPEAKER_01But look at the wasted petrol. I could I could use that in my car.
SPEAKER_06That's just a that's just a risk of going for a walk in the woods in this world. You do you don't need to be just, you know, that's a potion of petrol. Uh yeah. Fuck your quarterly reports.
SPEAKER_03That's amazing, all right, by the way. The werewolf just stampeding through the office. Love it.
SPEAKER_06Now, I have I have for you here, I think possibly one of the best names we've ever come up with. Mike Dragon's Wrath. I mean given that a lot of last names come from trades, like back in back in the day, back from yesteryear, I'm assuming that Mike's ancestors either were dragons or killed dragons. I'm not sure which it would be with the name Dragon's Wrath, but I don't know what would you know that idea. If it follows that formula, that guy has got one hell of a family tree, and I want to know more about it. Mike Dragon's Wrath was first acquainted with Pentecost through an arms dealer and would make quite the name for himself before becoming an employee. He and his group would fabricate evidence regarding the current Pentecost security chief in order to make her vulnerable enough to get her killed. Oh. Okay. With sway and finesse, he would see to it that he was the only person viable to take her position. His cohort from the same group, a woman named Ash Piralis, would be another option for the director role, but uh she would unfortunately suffer a chemical attack that would cripple her. God damn. Though this was a terrible loss for his compatriot, he would take it in stride and move onward and upward, gaining respect and Eventually a seat on the board of directors. Some are suspicious of him because of his background and think his focus in business is a missed opportunity, but it's hard to deny his effective nature against the Garou. I'm sorry, some are suspicious of him because of his background. No shit. The previous Chiefs of Security got got assassinated, and the only person who could run against him got done in a chemical attack. The string of coincidences is is unreal, but I think we can still trust it. No, clearly it's not trusting.
SPEAKER_00The coin landed on tails 500 times in a row. Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_03Obviously, there are yeah. Random chance means this could have absolutely happened.
SPEAKER_06It's just cosmic coincidence. That's all it is. Don't think about it too hard. Gaia has chosen me. After taking the position of subdivision director of Pentec Security, Dragon's Wrath would initiate the BTK method of lycanthrope disposal, which has become wildly popular and effective. BTK standing for Bait, Trap and Kill. For the bait, he proposed the establishment of heavily armoured shell companies that seem like simple things to take down on the outside, but once inside they will face only the most elite units of the Pentecost first team. Boldly showing the name of Pentex and these companies very publicly only irritated the werewolves to an irrational rage in his eyes, making them act ineffectively. For trapping, not only are there soldiers on the ready, but all employees in the shell companies will be well armed and trained, forcing the werewolves into a rational action sooner and ensuring their attack unravels. Finally, for the whole kill bit, only the finest weaponry is to be given to the first teams, including ammo exclusively tipped with silver and phosphorus grenades. Jesus. And for uh for cleanup, chemical throwers. Jesus Christ, that's that's a lot, dude.
SPEAKER_01Golly. Phosphorus grenades, chemical warfare? God.
SPEAKER_06Something's telling me that this Mike Dragonsrath fellow is not a nice guy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think that's a safe thing to say.
SPEAKER_06Oh, in before we get a billion, Shy says, In before we get a billion comments. This character appears in the popular world of darkness YouTube series Hunter the Parenting, wherein he appears as a demented miniature wargame-obsessed Swedish advertiser. There you go. We've uh we've we've done the reference for you.
SPEAKER_02Hooray!
SPEAKER_06Chill the fuck out. Now all of this is bait that is impossible to ignore for any member of the Garou. Mike Dragonsrath would know firsthand, actually. Possum was half truthful earlier. He was part of a group, but this group was not just any group. Mike Dragonswrath is a black spiral dancer. Oh. An alpha, even. And even worse, a legend, which is the highest rank a Garou can reach within their hierarchy.
SPEAKER_03Oh, double whammy.
SPEAKER_06Yikes. That's a hard yikes. So to Garou, this is essentially as close as you can get to a kindred antediluvian, the powerful first children of Cain himself. Perhaps the most powerful Garou in the world is sitting in a position of unchecked power with a company designed to kill said world and the spirit that represents it. That's a little rough. Yeah. What a note to end on, because that's it. We're all done.
SPEAKER_03Oh. What the fuck, man? You cannot just leave us with the cliffhanger of the black spiral dancer legend is sitting atop Pentex on an unchecked throne of power. See you next time, folks.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03So so we gotta wait until the next World of Darkness episode to find out what this asshole does.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I have no doubt it'll come up again. How can he not? I mean, Jesus Christ. Oh, sure, sure.
SPEAKER_00I have an idea of what he does. He, you know, kicks orphans and pours gasoline into lakes.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Yeah, probably. Relentlessly modifies cars, because that's also bad about it.
SPEAKER_00The machine spirit is wailing in pain. Oh I boss.
SPEAKER_06We must liberate the cars. Right after this period. A lovely, uh, a lovely note to end on there.
SPEAKER_03Um phenomenal note to end on. Almost as good a note as going to orchidate.com and checking out all the swell merch we have.
SPEAKER_01You like history, right? You like sci-fi, right? There are two shirts for that.
SPEAKER_03You could be a weave for Lincoln, you could get a commemorative coin, you could get a wall scroll. Check it out, Orchid8.com. Link in the description and on the screen right now. Carry out, tell them about the Patreon. And do an outro, you sicko.
SPEAKER_06You're still you're just upset because I managed to get you to do all three on said Patreon the last time we did a batch recording. That's right.
