How do you scale your business when your nearest coworker is a goat? Her address, a tiny Greek island, her market, everywhere. From ferry schedules to product launches, how has this entrepreneur's path led to global beauty? Hmm, let's ask the founder. Let's get to it.
Amy Ingle (00:43)
Welcome to Glow Up and Get Real. I am the Sweet Face Injector and today I have Maria Constantine. She's an entrepreneur, health and wellness and business startup coach. So Maria, thank you for coming on all the way from Greece.
Maria Constantine (00:58)
Thank you
so much for having me.
Amy Ingle (01:00)
What inspired you to build a business around nutrition, wellness, and beauty?
Maria Constantine (01:04)
Well, a long time ago, around 27 years ago, I was an art teacher and I didn't have any, I didn't want to do a business. I was really focused on teaching and I was suddenly stricken with Lyme disease. I didn't know it at the time, but one day I was enjoying a lovely evening at home and we just got back from vacation. I felt stress free. I went to bed and I woke up completely paralyzed on the right side of my body the next day.
didn't know what was happening to me and my life changed forever from that day. So long story short, because it was at least a year of not even knowing what I had, going to doctor to doctor, trying to figure out exactly what was wrong with me. Some doctors said that, know, ⁓ astronauts get this, know, vertigo was so bad, it was so long, you know, divers. And I'm thinking I didn't...
really do any of that stuff. So what is happening to me? And long story short, I actually found an infectious disease doctor that actually diagnosed me with the Lyme disease. So they can't, they couldn't really find it. And then when they found it and I was diagnosed, then I felt that relief and I felt like that was going to, you know, now I knew what I had and now I can heal.
⁓ I did everything that was the protocol. I had to exhaust all possibilities on the antibiotics. I was taking so much per day, over 3,000 milligrams a day. And all the side effects of that started to happen to me. So I was getting exhausted and frustrated and I just slowly losing hope. We didn't have internet then. We really didn't have even cell phones. hate to date myself, but...
In reality, we didn't really have the research that we can do now then. But I'm not a quitter and I knew there was something else out there. I did go to a friend's house when I was really, really sick. I just needed to get away. And I found a bottle of vitamins on her counter and I said, hey, what is that? And she says, it's gonna make my hair and nails stronger. I said, great, I need to look good in my casket. So I would love to try that. And that's when I started my journey on wellness. I did not expect what would happen.
with these supplements. So I started taking the recommended daily allowance of these supplements. And sure enough, in the next four or five days, I started feeling different. mean, just to paint the picture, I didn't lay down in a bed for over nine months because of the vertigo. That's how bad it was. So for me, I couldn't even, I was losing my eyesight. mean, numbness in my hands. had some ...
Atrophy in my arms from the paralyzation. So I mean when I started to feel a little energetic when I started to feel a little less pain in my joints Something was up with this stuff. And what was it this fancy powder, you know and As I started taking more and more that weeks went on and I was just feeling better I wasn't cured by any means but I started to feel a difference and that's where my journey began
Thankfully, my infectious disease doctor believed in supplementation. So when I walked in his office one day, and it was quite a long time with him, I was with him for over four and a half months before I brought the vitamins to him. Because when you deal with a disease like this, it hits people different in every, everyone is different. And when you commit to something that you've, the only thing you just don't know if it's gonna work, but you commit to that program, you need to stick to it.
And I had to work through all of that until I got to the, they put a shunt into your arm and they pump it into your chest. You know, I'm not really good at all the medical terms, but I know that this guy, John, used to come every day and give me my little connection of antibiotics. That was the turning point for me because I just wanted to die. Honestly, I said, you know what? I'd rather have my Lyme disease symptoms back. Forget this, I'm done. And I just...
walked in and I said, look, I can't do it. I'm not strong enough. I need to get off this therapy treatment you have me on. And I put the bottle of vitamins on his desk and I said, what can I do? This is what I'm taking. And he looked at it and he said, wow, this is great. It's an isotonic formula. I had no idea what that meant. I was just like, whatever. And he said, you need to take four to six capfuls a day. Now I was only taking one capful a day.
and feeling a few things differently. Something led me to just keep on taking it. Well, I will tell you in the next three days of taking four to six capfuls a day, I thought I would die. And he was really the main source of why I continued to take that isotonics because at four to six capfuls a day, it was a super mega dose. So I was detoxing big time. I don't even think he knew what power that product had because after he coached me through those
terrible days, those three days, I started feeling really great. And that's where my story began. And I knew that I had to reach people to help them in the situation that I was in, perhaps maybe not Lyme disease, but in the meantime, I was feeling great and I didn't have to go back onto all of these drugs. And I don't even remember, having to...
I never remember writing this, but I wrote an article in the Lyme Disease newsletter because back then, again, there was no internet, there was no blogs, no texting, none of that. So I wrote a letter and I literally, the post office called me and said, you have bags of letters here. And I was still sick. I'm not gonna say that I was cured by any means.
but my paralyzation went away, my vision was coming back, my energy was definitely back. I woke up one day laying down, I was afraid to get up because I was like, this is a miracle for me. And there were so many people suffering, not from just Lyme disease, but from chronic ailments that resembled what I was going through. And that's where I started my journey with this incredible company and all these great products.
Amy Ingle (06:52)
Yeah, so tell us a little bit more about this product. Why is it so special and how did it turn your life around?
Maria Constantine (06:59)
Well, that isotonic, that is really where it gets to be, you know, the best on the market, most bioavailable. It's because it's an isotonic formula. So when you take it on an empty stomach, especially, you're going to get 95 % or more because it bypasses your stomach, your digestion. It goes right into your small intestines and you absorb it 95 % or more. So you feel a difference, you know, so that, when I started doing those high doses,
That's what really was a miracle for me because that was really what was helping me and it got into my cells. It wasn't something that your body has to digest because people that have chronic ailments, their stomach is ⁓ a wreck, especially if you've been on antibiotics, you're not really absorbing anything. So I was just thankful that this delivery system can just do so much with my energy and just my clarity and...
We only, the company was only about five years old back then. So we only had a handful of products. So the one major product was OPC-3. It's the four most powerful antioxidants known to man. Red wine, bilberry, grape seed and pine bark. And that's really where it just changed my life because this product helps aid and support in circulation and ⁓ your body's detoxing. It just does so much, you know, just from.
these great amazing fruits and this delivery system. So only a handful. had B-Sum, B-Complex. We might've had a Coenzyme Q10, which I added later on. But as we say, if you breathe OPC, I believe I can pronounce it now after so many years, Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins. Yeah, it's a hard one and it took me a long time to pronounce it, but when you have such success,
Amy Ingle (08:35)
Okay, I'm ready. Ready? Drum roll. It's a hard one.
Maria Constantine (08:45)
and you feel such a difference, it's been my passion for almost 30 years.
Amy Ingle (08:51)
Right, right, and I take it as well. So I'm a believer as well. And especially after hearing your story, I've now heard it probably three times. And every time I hear it, I'm like, that is so amazing that that has turned your world around. And now you're an advocate for and a trainer for these supplements to help other people who are not feeling well and are ill. So I love it, love it. I love the story. ⁓ What nutritional fundamentals
Maria Constantine (09:14)
I'm so happy.
Amy Ingle (09:17)
most people get wrong, what are they and how to fix them. So what do you hear from people outside the company that might have like might not think straight or clearly about how these supplements really work.
Maria Constantine (09:30)
Well, as you know, there's so much out there and sometimes it could be confusing. And they've taken, a lot of people have taken vitamins before and not felt the difference. The education part, they need to understand that that isotonic delivery is the most bioavailable to the body and that you're going to feel a difference. It's going to start working. Now, perhaps you might be 18 years old, you eat well, you exercise, and you're like, don't feel anything. Well, it's still doing something.
Amy Ingle (09:50)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (09:59)
in your body, of course. And then you have, of course, the people that just don't believe in vitamins. know, I mean, my dad was one of those people, you know, and I made him, I made my mom mix it for him. And, you know, he's like, you know, he's from Greece, you know, off the boat, kind of Greek. And he's like, you're giving me these drugs. I'm not sure I like this, you know, because he started to feel good. And then when I said, okay, well, I'm not going to give you anymore. And that's when, you know, he was off of it for a little bit. And that's when you really realize that it's a supplement.
you take a supplement, it's because you're missing something. So we need that because of our food and our farms. It's just not the same. It's just not like it was 50 to 60 years ago or more where the minerals and all those things that were supposed to be in our food is in our food. It's just not there. this is where it really helps. Education, I think, is the best part of the whole entire thing.
Amy Ingle (10:30)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, what what are the biggest nutrition and left lifestyle drivers of healthy skin? I mean you are a big advocate about keeping your skin looking healthy and really not just taking care of the outside of your skin, but also taking in nutrients internally to help your skin.
Maria Constantine (11:09)
Yes, of course. mean, what happens on the inside, right, it shows on the outside. So back then with all those drugs I was on, the cystic acne that was, it's a side effect for a lot of antibiotics is acne. It was awful. I mean, I had scarring and everything. I really, I believe that supplementation is definitely the beginning of your...
inner health of course, but then it shines on the outside. So it's an inner and outer kind of beauty. I mean, I would be very, very sad if I had to miss a day of any of my supplements.
Amy Ingle (11:34)
Mm-hmm.
Right? Well, yeah, that when I visited you in Greece, you were having some pain and just some discomfort. And when we talked, you're like, wait a minute, I stopped my resveratrol Isn't that was that the one that you had stopped? Yeah. And so you started back up and you said that you felt a lot better after like three or four days of it. So it's amazing when we're
Maria Constantine (11:55)
Where it's very cool, yes, yes.
Amy Ingle (12:05)
Missing something that just by adding it back into our system. We can feel so much better
Maria Constantine (12:11)
yes.
And the glute, the GlutaQ which is in flat for inflammation. And here in, in, in Greece, I mean, we do have a global, internet, portal, so to speak, and it does ship, but every country has its own laws. So it is kind of hard to get it here. So I'm rationing. So if I, that's when I was like, wait, I cut out my Resveratrol. So this way I can just kind of hold off because I'm here three, six months depends on,
Amy Ingle (12:16)
that's right. talked about that.
Maria Constantine (12:37)
I feel, I guess. And I'm watching my thin right now, my amazing GLP1 supplement, which changed my life as well with inflammation and weight management. And I'm looking at the bottle and I'm like, gosh, I have half left. I need to get some right away. you know, being a wellness lover, I guess you can say, and coach, I just...
Amy Ingle (12:53)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (13:00)
You know, we have access to so much and we want to take everything. And sometimes we can't take all of it all the time. But I love the fact that when we, when I stopped taking it and I noticed that, wait a minute, no, I'm never going to stop that because you know, free radical damage is everywhere.
Amy Ingle (13:13)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Right. And it's increasing, I think, for sure. ⁓ What are your favorite ingredients for skin and which ones should you avoid?
Maria Constantine (13:19)
Absolutely.
ingredients as in what kind of ingredients.
Amy Ingle (13:28)
⁓ nutritional
ingredients for your skin.
Maria Constantine (13:31)
So topical or internal? Okay, cool. So internal, my favorite of course are the antioxidants because we are breathing and we're oxidizing our body from within. So I love again, our OPC-3. We do have another one that has some biotin in there, hyaluronic acid, which is our beauty blend, which is skin health formula. I just love that as well. And then as far as topical, we do also have a antioxidant formula on the top.
Amy Ingle (13:33)
You can say both. Yes.
Maria Constantine (13:59)
course to moisturize and to add those antioxidants. Snowpea C3 triple serum, which has all of those ingredients from the inside on the outside. And it's a 10 day little vial. So I love that combo. And I believe that skin health especially definitely starts from within. However, we also have to use the therapy on the outside as well because we are
Amy Ingle (14:23)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (14:24)
Bombarded with all the free radical damage on the outside as well. You mentioned what I would avoid well You know, I don't smoke, you know, so of course, you know the usual stuff limit drinking And stuff like that. There are some things out there that you know This is why I love the isotonic and the platform that we have because you can take a Neutrophysical or a 60 second quiz just to get started and it'll give you exactly what your body needs
based on the questions that you're answering at the moment. Because things can change and no two people are the same. What works for somebody else may not work for somebody else. So of course, just avoiding the basic stuff and stress is a big thing. really see it more now because everybody is stressed and we handle stress on a daily basis. However, there's some supplementation that I think that can help you manage the stress in order for you to...
be more healthy on the inside, and of course look younger on the outside. you know, we have great stuff for that too.
Amy Ingle (15:20)
Okay.
Now you have a questionnaire on your Stan store. I saw. Is that the questionnaire that you were just discussing about getting on? Okay. Okay.
Maria Constantine (15:30)
Yes, I have a few of them actually. So the first
one is the 60 second quiz, is everybody's busy and you just may not have the time for the nutrifysical, which is a little bit more in depth, but a 60 second quiz will get you started. And then the nutrifysical kind of goes through a lot of things, your heart health, your stress, your weight management, your sexual health, all of these different...
Facets in our in our life and you're able to take that it's a little bit more lengthy But it gives you a little bit more of an in-depth kind of survey and based on those questions that you answer It'll give you a recommendation of what products you should start with and of course you can always book an appointment with me so we can go over it because I know when I took my quiz I had I had so many products and I was like, where do I start and that's what I think that you know less is best sometimes
Amy Ingle (16:17)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (16:20)
where you can feel the difference. So it's not about taking everything. It's about incorporating the right supplements at the right time in order to feel the difference and then move on to the next thing. That's what we want to accomplish, so for a total wellness. And there's another one for a weight management as well. know that, ⁓ especially nowadays where we're getting older, my hormones are changing, and I have now a whole different world to look at. And I wasn't expecting because I...
do CrossFit, was doing Pilates, I'm active, God knows I'm living on an island with no cars, so we're walking everywhere. So I have no choice to be active and all of a sudden I'm gaining weight. And that's where we have to look into some of that. So it could be something to regulate hormones. And again, these are all natural supplementation, things that we are just, our body ages and we just have to kind of supplement in order to keep it on track.
Amy Ingle (17:12)
Mm-hmm.
Right. So and these questionnaires are free. So anyone can go on your site and do this and then you will get in touch with them. Okay, great. That's great.
Maria Constantine (17:22)
Absolutely. Yeah. Yes, the results come back to me and then we can book the
appointment for the next, for the meeting. So this way I can help and that's all free.
Amy Ingle (17:31)
Okay.
So, okay. So let's talk about your coaching. So what does your client onboarding and transformation roadmap look like? So they take the quiz, you get in contact with them, then what happens?
Maria Constantine (17:44)
then we look over the survey to see what we can do. And of course I want to build the relationship because that quiz is wonderful and it's going to give me a lot of insight on your habits, but we're going through a lot. And I think that the more I know, especially some family history and the more details I know is the more I can help guide to the right products and when.
because sometimes we need some at night, sometimes we need some during, you know, in the morning, maybe we need something in the afternoon to keep us going. And again, everybody is different. So that's why I love that one-on-one. We can also do groups as well, but I think that getting to know the person is really where I'm at. So I have quite a bit of new friends from these great products and this great company that has helped me do that.
Amy Ingle (18:28)
Okay.
Great. What's your biggest lesson from launching and scaling your coaching business?
Maria Constantine (18:39)
Time management. Time management, because I want to be there for everyone. you know, different seasons are more busier than others. And, you know, of course, we all have our own life. And ⁓ I am seven hours ahead. So now it's limiting me a little bit in the summer months, but I am global. again, I think time management is a big one. But we have products for that, too. So this way, I can make my
Amy Ingle (18:40)
My management, I agree. That's hard, it?
That's right.
Maria Constantine (19:05)
focus a little bit better.
Amy Ingle (19:07)
Right, right. Yes. What are the top myths you wish would disappear in wellness and beauty? Myths. The top myths.
Maria Constantine (19:12)
I'm this top what? I'm sorry. The top myths
that vitamins don't work and that you pee them out. I mean, that's a big one. I mean, I have so many testimonials that can prove that wrong. I think it's just the mindset of everybody and the more education that people have, the better mind, the better decisions that we can make. And now with the internet, I think that we can really research and do our due diligence and
Amy Ingle (19:26)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (19:39)
understanding why they're so important. But that is definitely a myth that I wish would go away because it would help so many more people.
Amy Ingle (19:46)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. I mean, you have heard of vitamins, you know, they get stuck in the gut. You don't absorb all of it. But with isometrics, you don't have to worry about that.
Maria Constantine (19:56)
That's right. Isotonics is the, again, bioavailable to your belly, to your intestines, where you're absorbing all of your nutrients. Your small intestine is where you absorb your food nutrients, even if you're taking medications, it's all in the gut. And what I love about meeting people, it's amazing. ⁓ I would say 80 % of the people I meet with have gut issues.
Amy Ingle (20:01)
huh.
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (20:19)
And
that is really why we're not really getting what we need from the foods that we're eating. Cause I have people that are going to farmer's markets, they're eating, you know, the little numbers that have a nine, which are organic and like really working hard on good food, but yet they feel horrible and they're not getting what they need. The other thing is methylation. That's a big talk right now.
Amy Ingle (20:44)
Yes.
Maria Constantine (20:44)
you
are you absorbing your vitamins or your nutrients? Probably not because we all have this mutated gene that we don't even know about. So now there's a lot of testing on that. ⁓ So again, it comes down to getting to know the person, looking at the symptoms and then trying to supplement those symptoms so this way we can feel better. And I think that that's the most important part of this whole process.
Amy Ingle (20:54)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Yeah, I agree. So not only do you do coaching You also are entrepreneur and you run your own business So if you have clients that love the products and they're like I want my family to try them I want my friends to try them. What what do you coach them? How do you coach them when they ask you these questions? What's your next step?
Maria Constantine (21:32)
Well, I do believe that you have to believe in the product. So I'm very bad at the marketing thing, especially now that all of these tools that we have. However, the best is word of mouth, right? So we have a great referral system where the clients can get some great cash, cash back, and some great profits from referring. So there's programs that are set. And I also help teach other people to become coaches like myself. And I think.
That's where I came up with turning passion into profits because once you really feel great on something that works for you, then it's easy to recommend. And I know a lot of people are afraid of selling and they don't want to sell to their friends, but you know, we're doing this every single day and it's really more on recommending, but it starts with the product and falling in love with the effects that it's giving you in order to share that to somebody else and be passionate about it. So I help people.
Amy Ingle (22:25)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (22:27)
and guide them direct to do that.
Amy Ingle (22:29)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, you really have to be passionate about what you want to recommend to your family and friends because you don't want to disappoint them. So, I mean, just using the products like the OPC, it's a game changer and I've never looked back, whereas I know you haven't either. So it's a a great product. What common mistakes do you find that clients make before working with you? and like...
What do you see or hear when they start working with you? I wish I wouldn't have done this. I wish I had called you first. What do hear?
Maria Constantine (23:03)
Well, consistency is one. And I think that the majority of people are being sold so many different products that it might be either overkill and compromising their digestion. There's many different things that I hear. You need somebody to put you on the right track. And just like life coaching, just like therapy, just like a lot of things in life, just like your esthetician, just...
All of this, need some sort of specialist in order to guide you to get the right path. And I hear a lot of things. majority of the people are taking the wrong products. You know, we tend to go through the right deal. And of course, I agree. I want it to be something that is worth the money, so to speak. But we can't expect to get it some things that are in such bulk.
Amy Ingle (23:31)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (23:49)
for such a low price, you know, and that is sold for everyone. It just doesn't work. You you get what you pay for. Not to say that our products are not comparable to the best products out there. Because, you know, one thing that I really love about our company, it's a product brokerage company, and we don't manufacture any of the products. So we're bringing to the end consumer products that are wanted, needed, and that actually work, or we get rid of
Amy Ingle (23:54)
Mm-hmm.
Maria Constantine (24:14)
So I believe in the products that I have and I know our competition. So I think that, you know, I see it every, I could walk in every grocery store, any health food store, and you'll see people standing in the aisles looking at and reading the labels and not even knowing what to look for. You know, I do it every time I go into the grocery store. I'm like, what ingredients are you looking for? I can't help myself. You know, I don't know.
Amy Ingle (24:31)
Right? Yes.
Yes.
Maria Constantine (24:39)
We don't know because everybody's saying they're learning something different. So I tend to like that. I do have classes on how to read labels and especially for my weight management programs because I think it's important to understand the basics. So this way you can kind of stay away from a lot of the stuff because we're inundated with so much.
Amy Ingle (24:44)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Yeah, we really are. So what do you ⁓ recommend that consumers should watch out for as far as watch out for on labels?
Maria Constantine (25:08)
just stuff they can't pronounce. That's a big, you know, well, mean, OPC, if you read the ingredients, says red wine, bilberry, pine bark and grape seed extract. So it's definitely doable. You know, additives, sweeteners, you know, things like that. There are some great products out there that I don't have in my little arsenal, but if I'm using them, I'm recommending them. I am a
Amy Ingle (25:09)
What's? Okay. Like OPC.
There you go, simple.
Maria Constantine (25:34)
Huge proponent. mean, if I'm taking it, there's no reason why I can't talk about it. So I'm not just all my company stuff. There's lots of different things out there. just avoid things that confuse you. If you say, just don't understand this, it doesn't make sense to me, then don't do it. Or get the education and talk to a coach about it, because they might know the answers. And I think that's important.
Amy Ingle (25:51)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah. Okay.
Is there anything else that you would like to speak about? Share with the listeners about what you do?
Maria Constantine (26:04)
Well, I mean, I know
I could talk all day long, I think the next, so I do everything in quarters and six months. So the next three months are to really focus on helping people supplement their lifestyle and help people my age, which I don't like to say it, but I'm in the more mature hormonal craziness. I want to help people balance.
