Jessica (01:03)
Okay.

Amy Ingle (01:07)
Hi, Jessica. How are you? Good. I'm so glad that you could come on. This is really exciting. You have a lot of neat things to talk about But first of all, I wanted to ask you Can you describe your signature style when working with brides and bridal parties?

Jessica (01:09)
Good, are you Amy?

So my signature style that I love the most, I really like enhancing someone's natural features, but there's a lot more that goes into what somebody's expectations are as opposed to what is achievable. So I really, really like doing a soft glam type of look that does enhance them.

but there are times that I have to direct them into a few other places like to you because I don't have the scalpel or the needles and things like that. but I definitely like the soft glam and for up, I'm really into like skin based looks. So I like to feel like the skin is glowing from within. I think that that really highlights anyone's good features.

In terms of hair, I'm loving some of these sleeker trends. I do like the glam waves, but I definitely like a good updo for bridal.

Amy Ingle (02:19)
Yeah, yeah, and I'm going to put some of your work on the video so people can see while you're talking what you're talking about these some of the things that you've done that have really been amazing and you've gotten rewards rewards awards with how do you personalize hair and makeup looks to suit each bride's vision and personality?

Jessica (02:26)
Okay.

Awards.

In order to really make something a reality for them, I have to start by looking at their features in terms of makeup. Again, adding shading and highlighting in the right areas helps to really bring their vision to life.

In terms of hair, I have to really manage those expectations because 99 % of the looks that these brides are seeing on Pinterest, if they're not AI now, there's a lot of extensions. so just really educating my client on what they need in order to achieve that look is probably the biggest part in getting to their end goal.

Amy Ingle (03:25)
Okay. Now, how do you personalize hair to suit each bride's vision? I mean, you work with brides all over the world and you usually, I know, meet with them beforehand, but do you find that the brides all have kind of the same vision because they look at magazines and they go on Instagram or do you feel like it's more about their personality?

Jessica (03:47)
I think a lot of them nowadays, a lot of the brides are all Googling and searching on Pinterest the same things. So to be very transparent.

The half up half down style is one of those that I'm like, ⁓ it's so unique free, but it's, it's something that I do it a lot. But again, somebody with fine hair versus somebody with really thick hair or someone whose hair is short or even their hair color is going to look very, very different.

So actually last weekend I had a bride who her hair was a little bit shorter than mine and her inspo photos, the hair was all down to here and like lots of waves. I prior to the concert, but prior to her trial told her to bring in extensions, but she really wasn't sure she wanted to use them. So.

On the trial, she loved her look, but she says she didn't feel like the inspo photo, which we added the extensions on the wedding day and she's like, this is exactly what I wanted. So there's, you know, lots of little tips and tricks that I have to use based on what somebody like what my canvas is that I'm working with.

Amy Ingle (05:01)
Yeah. Well, what are some of your proudest moments or awards you've received in the wedding and fashion industry?

Jessica (05:07)
So I have won five different national hairstyling competitions, but ⁓ thank you. ⁓ And I've been featured in magazines around the world. did my biggest magazine feature, would say, was about two years ago. I was featured with along with three other bridal stylists in a bridal issue for hair and makeup. So that was super exciting.

Amy Ingle (05:13)
That's amazing. Amazing.

Jessica (05:33)
And my biggest

pinch me moment to date has been last October, I won a beyond the ponytail best ponytail hair award. And that's

global competition for bridal stylists all over the world. So for me, that was like, I don't know that, you know, you always think maybe something might top it, but I don't know that anything's going to top that one.

Amy Ingle (05:58)
Yeah, that was a biggie. I remember that.

How do you stay updated with the latest bridal trends and techniques? How do you get your ideas?

Jessica (06:00)
was a good one,

Well, nowadays, it's with having the internet in our hands all the time between social media,

scrolling online, we have TikTok,

Pinterest as well. I think it's really a lot easier to stay up to date on the trends because we have so much access to so much information. I think education is a really big thing. I once a year, no matter how much I

look at online at least once a year I invest in like an online course to where it might help me with specific styling or just business stuff that I need to stay up to date with in the bridal industry.

Amy Ingle (06:50)
Okay, well, ⁓ can you walk us through the process of a typical wedding day from prep to final touch ups?

Jessica (06:56)
For this specifically, that was one other question I had. Is this like on the bride? Do you want this more on?

Amy Ingle (07:02)
On bride, Walk us through your process of a typical wedding day for bride from prep to final touch up.

Jessica (07:03)
Right, okay.

So when I

with my bride, the first thing I do is I have them sit down and I

to face them away from everything going on in the background because I need their attention. And I try to manage the calm around them. And I usually start by doing like a light cleansing on the face, like cleansing and toning. Oftentimes my brides will show up and they still need their brows done.

So I do carry a little dermaplaning razor in my, in my makeup kit. So I, lot of times we'll have to shave different areas on the face. I prefer when they show up freshly dermal plane, but it's not always perfect world. and then after that I get them under eye masks. put on a moisturizing lip mask and

I start with a little bit of skin prep and then I work to their eyes. And while all of that's like soaking in, I do their eye makeup, I get their lashes on, and then I will move into the rest of the face. And once we've like agreed that everything looks good, minus lips, I will usually spray and set them. And then at that point, I move on to hair.

because if I start, depending on the hairstyle, if I start spraying lots of setting sprays, I'm wetting the hair and the hair starts to flatten. So I definitely like doing makeup first. And then when the photographer arrives, my bride is already like her face is on, her hair is almost done. And then we move to the finishing touches and do touch-ups on. ⁓

Like we'll do the lip liner, the lipstick, lip gloss, and any kind of body glow. And then I take photos and then they're off to their photographer.

Amy Ingle (08:55)
Okay, well, let's, you're not just doing hair and makeup. It's obvious.

Jessica (08:59)
No, it's, it's,

that's, I definitely create more of an experience for them to where when, when I work weddings where it's, you know, it's like a constant tight time schedule. But for my bride, my bride is allotted a lot more time than anybody else. Cause again, it's, it's her day. She deserves to feel beautiful and special. And there's, she needs to have that special calm.

Amy Ingle (09:04)
Mm-hmm.

Okay.

Jessica (09:25)
with all the chaos running around behind her because sitting still for two, two and a half hours is really challenging when, you know, there's all this chaos in the background. So.

Amy Ingle (09:36)
Right,

right, yeah. Well, how do you then handle last minute changes or requests? I know you probably get them all the time from brides and bridesmaids and probably even mothers of the bride and groom. How do you handle it?

Jessica (09:47)
So if I'm, I'm really good at adjusting on the fly, but I always send out prior to the wedding day about two months prior, I send out a little questionnaire for them and I ask questions, so that I can make a day of beauty timeline.

that day of beauty timeline. A lot of times in this point, they'll ask to add people on or they want to change things around. So like a lot of times that alleviates the last minute people, but there's always the one that might opt to, I'm going to do my own. And then on the wedding day, when they see everybody else, you know, they want to add on. And I do build in a little bit of buffer time, but as long as that buffer time hasn't gotten eaten up.

by bridal party running late or whatever might be going on causing, if somebody shows up with hair down to their butt and they said it was to hear different things. I do my best to accommodate those last minute options or add-ons if the time allows.

Amy Ingle (10:48)
Alright, have you ever had, say, a bridesmaid or a bride get upset because you couldn't accommodate due to time? And what happened?

Jessica (10:55)
Typically, I would say typically no because they normally come like, please, like they're begging. They're begging for it. Like if they're on the schedule, they're accommodated for and a lot of times there will be somebody who isn't part of the bridal party, but a close friend. And, you know, so we can add them on at the end that doesn't.

Amy Ingle (11:04)
Okay.

Jessica (11:20)
like mess with our timing, but it's again, as long as everybody else is done. What can be challenging is when somebody

you an inspo photo, specifically if somebody shows you an updo that they really want and then they decide afterwards, you know, after everybody else is down and they're the only one up, you know what,

think I

it down in curls and you're like, well, you're gonna have to come back and we'll see if there's time, you know, because we did what

Amy Ingle (11:47)
Mm-hmm.

Jessica (11:48)
you know, you asked for. So that can pose challenges because at the end of the day, I want everyone to be happy. But again, the buffer time in there usually accounts and gives us time for things like that. But that can be a situation at times.

Amy Ingle (11:50)
Yeah.

Yeah, I bet.

bet. Well, what products and brands do you prefer for long lasting bridal looks and why? Because it's a full day for brides. So what do you suggest?

Jessica (12:18)
So I do personally really love using clean beauty products, but not 100 % of everything is always going to be clean for longevity, especially here in Florida. In terms of skin, one of my favorite skincare products that I like to use that seems to work really well with my foundations is, ⁓ so I use NARS foundations.

And I like the combination of how I can mix their different formulas together. And they work really, really well with I use glow recipe for a lot of my serums and moisturizers and primers. They blend together. They don't separate. And then I use, let's see, I use a lot of makeup by Mario.

⁓ But honestly, think water-based products are the best here in Florida because we're also dealing with humidity in the air. So if you start having silicones, that humidity is going to start creating separation. The same with like a silicone primer with a water-based foundation. Eventually it's going to separate. So I do use either, I have three different setting sprays depending on the person's skin type. I have a milk.

Amy Ingle (13:26)
Mmm.

Jessica (13:34)
mattifying one, the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray, and I use the NARS radiant setting spray. So again, depending on the overall look, those are super important. I like Huda Beauty. I like Rare Beauty, Make Up For Ever. In terms of hair, my favorite hair care line that I like to use is Surface Hair Health.

but I also use sexy hair and I use an Australian brand that I really like called KYK. And there's one other brand. Hold on. can I not think? ⁓ air. It's called air and it's infused with crystals. So it's like a vegan clean line, but also the fragrance whenever I'm spraying it, everyone's like, I feel calm. Like what? Like,

I feel very calm all of a sudden. So I do like using that one on my brides just because it again brings back that experience that is a little different than most stylists.

Amy Ingle (14:35)
Okay, wow. So you're beauty chemist, pretty much.

Jessica (14:38)
Sort of,

yeah. I mean, you know, I definitely have had to learn and understand the science behind the product so you know what works well together.

Amy Ingle (14:48)
Yeah. Well, can you share a wedding experience or several and how you managed it?

Jessica (14:53)
Yes.

I'm going to, I'll start out with, uh, say what?

Amy Ingle (14:57)
These are good. I

Jessica (15:01)
These are good. Yes. These are really, really good. Okay. So I'm going to start with my squirrel brides. I call them, which is pretty much every bride on their wedding day because

Amy Ingle (15:00)
these are good. I've heard some of them. ⁓

not

god what is it ⁓ godzilla what is it

Jessica (15:15)
It's not like

an angry bride. Usually by the time I'm gone, I don't always get the opportunity to do a trial. But the thing is, when your hair makeup is getting done, your flowers are arriving, your photographer is coming in, you have however many people in your bridal party buzzing around behind you, everyone's heavy drink water, do you want food, do you want the, you know, all the things.

Amy Ingle (15:20)
Okay, okay.

Jessica (15:41)
you know, trying to do somebody's face when they're like constantly like, can I just go here? Can I go there? You know, that I always am like, again, this is where I like my like my spray hair products that smell really good to calm them down. ⁓ But I mean, that's a pretty typical challenge that I deal with. Environmentally, I've dealt with ⁓

Amy Ingle (15:57)
Mm-hmm.

Jessica (16:06)
weddings on days of hurricanes that I actually had two weddings, one that was really early morning wedding and then one that was a later day. And I had to drive any category one hurricane from one to the other. And both weddings went great. Their hair, their makeup, everything lasted. They had tense backup plans like everything happened. But that was that was a first. But my

biggest challenge to date is that I accidentally have gotten high at a wedding because of how much like pot was being smoked around me that when doing makeup, there's so many little things that I need my focus and I became like the squirrel makeup artist where I'm like, what was I doing? Where's this? What's that? Like, you know, I was just like, I couldn't keep my focus and

Amy Ingle (16:43)
Wow.

you

Jessica (16:58)
I mean I had this bride just like lighten up like while I was doing her makeup and I mean people were smoking all around me it was the craziest thing ever.

Amy Ingle (17:10)
but you managed and she looks beautiful.

Jessica (17:11)
managed.

Yes, yes. And I mean, again, no, like, I have no judgment about that in people's smoking. But I, it definitely was hard to keep my focus that day. Yeah.

Amy Ingle (17:23)
Yeah, I would think, wow.

That's why there's no smoking in the spa. How do you coordinate with other wedding professionals? Because I know you work with a lot of planners, photographers. How do you do that coordination?

Jessica (17:29)
Yes. Yes. No.

So I do have my favorite planners that when they reach out to me and inquire, they basically already have their timeline, like as to where she needs to be ready by this time. This is what time photos start. And I mentioned previously that I send out like a detailed questionnaire to the bride, which asks about like the hair lengths, textures, all the possible things I need to know so that I can create my beauty timeline. And so if a bride...

their photos are starting at two, I work backwards from there. And I typically schedule 45 to 60 minute time slots, depending on like hair length or density or certain things like that. So I just kind of go backwards and really value communicating with the photographer and planners. Those are the two that seem to be the best. And I always run my schedules by them before even showing the bride.

because a lot of times the brides don't even know what's going on.

Amy Ingle (18:35)
Yeah, right, right. Yes,

I'm sure. So, okay, so what advice do you give brides for preparing their hair and skin before the wedding? I know you talked about kind of touched on derma planning, but what do you give your brides before the

day?

Jessica (18:51)
So I actually send them a skincare guide after they book

me. I believe it's 10 or 11 pages and it's a brief touch on like how to identify what your skincare concerns are. And depending on like your skin type, what products work well for you or what types of products.

⁓ I definitely always recommend for, like I said before, for my brides to be dermaplained and get like a hydrofacial or some kind of like regular skincare regimen that they are used to. I don't ever recommend trying something a week before the wedding. Like I think, you know, a lot of times the microneedling is the big thing.

that I recommend to my brides because they're concerned with pores or texture in their skin, acne scarring, stuff like that, chemical peels. But again, for day of dermaplaning and really anything to get the skin nice and hydrated, like a regular skincare regimen is something that I think I post about it all the time about, you know, your makeup's only gonna look as good as your skin.

Amy Ingle (20:01)
Do you want them to come with clean hair?

Jessica (20:03)
yes, I prefer clean blow dry hair unless they have natural curl that they want to work with or something like that. And, I normally will talk ahead of time with them about stuff like that, but I always tell them to freshly wash their hair and blow dry it upside down for a little bit of lift and to use a volume izing like gel or moose from roots to ends because the style starts with

the prep and how many people you hear say, my hair never holds curl. What product do you use? Well, nothing, you know, it's like, well, you know, you have to start. If you started at the beginning, you're going to get a much better end result.

Amy Ingle (20:35)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, right. So how do you manage

with large bridal parties?

what's it? Well, first of all, what was the biggest bridal party that

attended to prep?

Jessica (20:52)
⁓ the biggest

bridal party that we had was 39 services and we had six artists It looked ⁓ yes, I We it looked like the backstage at new york fashion week like they've actually brought in the hotel brought in tables for us and it was probably one of the best setups in a hotel room ever because we were like

Amy Ingle (20:58)
my goodness, was this all under your direction? Wow.

Jessica (21:17)
I mean, we bring tables with us and chairs. We never know what we're going to walk into and our stuff breaks out. So it takes up a lot of space. no, this I again, I create a more I create the day of timeline for the bride, which is very basic. This is what time we're coming. This is what time we're starting. The bride's hair and makeup is at this point and this is what time touch ups are. And then we leave or like we're finished.

For us, I create more of a spreadsheet type timeline and I don't assign anyone's name to a time slot with the exception of the bride because somebody is going to either have wet hair or something is not, they're not properly prepped. if I, as long as we all have a butt in the chair at all times, we flow really, really well, no matter how many people are around.

Amy Ingle (22:10)
Yeah, yeah, good. Can you provide examples of a portfolio of your work featured in some of the major magazines that I know you've done in the past?

Jessica (22:19)
The so the one that was in Modern Salon, I had some different bridal hairstyles and ⁓ makeup that were in it. But like my my picture was in there as well with it. That was that one had three bridal artists and it was a complete bridal edition. And then I also let's see. Recently, one of the weddings that I did was featured on Vanity Fair.

Amy Ingle (22:30)
Okay.

you have a place that you can go online to look at your work? Like those kind of things?

Jessica (22:47)
⁓ well,

my Instagram account and then I have my website. I do have two Instagram accounts. I have the at Jessica Domini and I also have the Glambox underscore artistry. but my website is Glambox artistry.com. So there's a ton of stuff there. And if you Google my name,

There's so much stuff that pops up for the last 15-20 years. Some of it's pretty embarrassing, you know, things back then.

Amy Ingle (23:19)
Yeah, I always like your Halloween costumes that you do every year on Instagram. They're so amazing. Yep.

Jessica (23:24)
That's, those are my favorite. I'm doing

a Carrie Bradshaw in two

so you do you know that I just did Andre Hepburn? I did a breakfast at Tiffany's. my I'll have to send you the picture. It's so beautiful. I, I feel like Halloween is my favorite. But this year, I didn't feel like there was really any relevant stuff that was like hair related, you know. And so I was just thinking of like

Amy Ingle (23:32)
No, I haven't seen them.

⁓ wow. god.

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Jessica (23:54)
timeless like fashion icons and stuff and I just kept like I just wanted to do breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies and so I wanted to create that and I have one of the models that I work with that I knew she would be perfect and we did it and It turned out really well. And then the Carrie Bradshaw that at that point I was like well like also

Amy Ingle (24:02)
wow.

Jessica (24:19)
Like Sex and the City, know that like scene where she wears, she like almost gets hit by the bus in the beginning credits. So I'm actually doing that one on one of my models in a week and a half. And we have a photographer and we're going to go downtown Fort Myers and like try to actually do like, you know, like a photo shoot with it too. So I told her we have to like almost get her hit by the bus, but not like fully. I don't know if we're going to find a bus, but

Amy Ingle (24:24)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

⁓ Are you gonna be able to get a bus?

Yeah,

Jessica (24:47)
⁓ yeah, we'll definitely have like

Amy Ingle (24:47)
you'll have to know the bus routes. You can time it.

Jessica (24:50)
a Cosmo or some kind of, you know, drink in hand.

Amy Ingle (24:53)
Yeah,

that'll be really cool. That'd be neat. Well, what do you believe sets your services apart from other wedding services and stylists?

Jessica (24:56)
Yeah.

Definitely know that I create more of an experience. I am not the cookie cutter artist that is just going to like quickly rush through everything. I really focus on the skincare. I really focus on the person. I do everything with intention and I believe in like being around positive energy and on a wedding day to be surrounded by so much love. think

The love that I receive there is also like a love that I give back. So at the end, know, my brides usually tell us, tell me like, why don't you just stay for the wedding? Like, my God, please don't leave. Like they, you almost develop a relationship with them. And I've done several brides that have had trials other places before they found me.

Amy Ingle (25:43)
Mm-hmm.

Jessica (25:50)
And that was just something that they said that, you know, they just felt more of a connection and that it was more of an experience rather than a rushed thing.

Amy Ingle (25:58)
Mm-hmm. Yes, I I definitely can and understand that you know from working with you as well

Well, what is your sweetest tip of the day?

Jessica (26:06)
I don't have a scalpel or a needle. it's again, like, definitely goes back to like, I mean, drinking water, what we eat, all of these things are important. But again, I can only do what I can do. And that's something that, know, it's really interesting, like you like me, we're licensed to touch people.

we deal with a lot of women to where the things that we can say to a woman, like it really resonates with them and they don't take it like they don't always take it like personally, like, oh my God, she's like hating on me. But it's like, oh my God, this is like, it's like they're looking for us to be honest with them. So I think.

Amy Ingle (26:54)
Mm-hmm, I agree.

Jessica (26:57)
I think being honest and managing somebody's expectations and directing them in the best way to get what they want is probably like, I mean, I would say the biggest thing that I feel really translates into like the wedding day and to confidence and stuff like that.

Amy Ingle (27:03)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Yeah, yeah. Well, good. Well, thank you so much for coming on. You gave us all these amazing tips, not just for weddings, but for big events too. know people can get in touch with you through Glambox, Glambox Artistry, as well as on Instagram through Jessica Domny. Is that correct?

Jessica (27:19)
Thank you for having me.

Yes,
