You cannot allow perfect to be the enemy of good. Tomorrow is not promised to us. Procrastination is arrogance. Because who's to say that you have tomorrow? We don't know when our expiration date is. Hey, what's up, you guys? Welcome or welcome back to Chats with Michelle, where we chat all things keeping your promises to yourself through navigating adulthood and pursuing purpose. And in today's chat, we are going to talk all things the enemy of perfection. Yes, you heard that correctly, but before we do so, I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you so much to all of you who listen to Chats with Michelle via audio, whether that's Spotify, Apple, or wherever else. I got notification a couple days ago, maybe a week ago or so, that Tatswith Michelle had 500 downloads, and it's even over that by now. And um, I just wanted to say thank you, and I hope that it's blessing you. I hope that you're finding it impactful. Um, yeah, and with that being said, this is an exclusive audio chat today as well. So thank you, thank you, thank you. And let's get go ahead and just get back into the chat. I want to talk about all things perfection. If you're new here, or if you didn't know, I am a overcoming, or I am a what's the word I'm looking for? A recovered, maybe is the word, a recovered perfectionist. I'm recovering from it, I'm overcoming perfectionism. And let me tell you, I heard someone say this today, and man, I was like, that is just so so good. And she said, Don't make perfect the enemy of good. My god, today, as someone who has been overcoming perfectionism and pushing myself to not wait for, you know, when things are perfect to do things, that just really, really, really, really, really resonated with me. And I don't know if you can relate to this as well, but I hope you it does something to you the way that it did for me. Because how many of us have made that mistake before? Have made the mistake of sitting and waiting for something to be absolutely perfect, or you have all your ducks in a row, or everything is just to your standard, whatever that is, and let's not be confused with excellence, right? I do think it's incredibly important for us to do things with excellence, however, there's excellence and then there's analysis, paralysis, and you just overthinking the thing because you want it to be so incredibly quote unquote perfect, and or if we were keeping it real with ourselves, it's because sometimes we're looking at other people and we're seeing what they're doing and how you know they're showing up, or what their engagements are, and just everything like that. And then it's like you just feel like, oh, well, I can't put this out yet because this is not up to the standard or what the standard is online, and it's like, no, let me remind you, you, me, us, this is for us, okay. This chat is for us that you cannot allow perfect to be the enemy of good, good is just as valuable, and I'm not saying that you just stay there and you you know you settle for just good when you can do great. No, I'm not saying that. However, sometimes you got to go with good so that you can be consistent. What do I say? I say this often once you become clear and you have clarity, you can then have the confidence to be consistent. It's the three C's that I talk about clarity, confidence, and consistency. Because once you are clear on what it is that you need to do, you then will have the confidence to be consistent, and sometimes being consistent is going with good. So then this brings me to my last point talking about being consistent and showing up, keeping your promise to yourself, right? Showing up each and every single day, just putting one foot in front of the other, doing that one thing. I'm not even gonna lie to you. This me recording this chat today is that one thing I have had a week. I have had a week, so much has happened, and I just was kind of like, you know what, with everything going on, and I feel like I had reason, honestly. If it, you know, is I had reason to be like, you know what, I don't think I'm gonna show up today. I've just had a long week, and I'm just gonna, you know, I'm gonna try again tomorrow, or I'll you know, do it tomorrow, or let me be real, it wasn't even gonna be tomorrow. So I'm like, I'll just do it next week. But I'm like, no, Michelle, you have to show up for yourself, and you're not always gonna feel like it, and even though you don't feel like it, you do need to still show up. So that's why this is an audio chat only, right? Because if you didn't know, if you if you're a person who only listens to me audible audibly, um, if you want to know what I look like, um, you can go to YouTube and it's chats with Michelle, it's the same exact thing because I use usually do video and audio, and with the week I've had and just a lot of you know, real life things, right? That brings me to this point, like I said, about just saying that we're gonna, you know, procrastination and saying that we're gonna do things tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. Tomorrow is not promised to us, and I have gotten a slap in the face this week in a real way of just sudden loss that tomorrow is not promised to us. And years ago I heard this, and I was just reminded that sometimes us being like, Oh, I'll just do it tomorrow, or I'll just do it next week, just procrastination is arrogance because who's to say that you have tomorrow? We don't know when our expiration date is, and that's not to fear monger or anything like that, but it's to say that you owe it to yourself enough to show up the best way you can. Like, if you if you can't, you can't, you know. Like, I'm not saying that you know, to to tire yourself endlessly. However, we know when we just be procrastinating and not doing what we got to do. My goodness, for me to even start to click record today, it was like you know, I'm not gonna lie, I was just procrastinating. I was procrastinating to that point. I was like, Michelle, you need to put your phone away because all that scrolling and all of that is like, girl, that's gonna be there when you're done with this, you need to do this first, and I think sometimes too, and this is something I have to remind myself, is like, because this is another thing, so much, so much has just been happening in this last week with just life happening in a very big real way, but also just being reminded that like everything comes together in the get in the end. Like, God is an intentional God, and even though maybe you don't see the fruits for something, it all comes together in the way that it's supposed to, however, it's supposed to. And you know, sometimes you can hope or think that you're supposed to be here, there, or wherever, further along, whatever that is, but it's like it's these moments, right? It's the consistency, right? It's the clarity, confidence, and the consistency, the consistency of showing up every single day. So when that moment does come, that big break, whatever it is, it's you being consistent every single day, you know, consistent and going at it and being just just having the audacity to keep on going, to keep on picking yourself up when you feel like just giving up, when you when you're in that moment of like, oh my gosh, this is the exact thing that I prayed for, this is what I was dreaming about, it will come naturally to you, not because it just fell into your lap, no, because like behind the scenes, when no one's watching, no one's listening, you know, you you only have one customer or five views or whatever it is, right? Because one of the things that I share all the time is that I know social media and podcasting and audio and all the things like that. This is like you know, a very popular thing now, but this is also this also might not be your thing, though, right? So, whatever your God-given assignment is, whatever the desire it is that the Lord put on your heart, whatever that is, when that big break, whatever that big break looks for you, you would know when no one was paying attention or when the minimal people was paying attention in the dark, you were preparing for this moment, so it won't be like new to you. Like, no, like I'm I'm actually really prepared for this, and you'll feel prepared. And I heard someone say this too when we're in the season of like working hard or just life seems unfair, whatever it is, like that. Sometimes we we can't see God's hand or we can't see what's happening, but it's when you're at that big break and you're at the moment, you know, the thing, the place that you prayed for, the dream that you have, and you look back on your life and you're like, Oh my goodness, like wow, I can see God's hand here, I see God's hand here, I see God's hand there, and you just see his consistency. And that's like honestly, I'll tell you the what I'm holding on to in all of this. Like, the I'm holding on to the belief that you know what, God, maybe I don't see it now. Because listen, because I don't, however, I'm holding on to knowing that you know, God is a consistent God. When people ask me, like, you know, well, what does God mean to you? I'm always like, you know, the Lord is a promise keeper because he's been a promise keeper in my life, and and it and you're not for nothing, even if if I don't see it right now, I can say when I look back in my life, girl, just freaking like two, three years ago, I see God's hand, I see his consistency, even when things didn't work out the way that I wish and hope and prayed for, I see his hand in it. So I just have that same belief that you know what, Lord, I'm just gonna trust that the same way you looked out for me back then, that although I don't see it now, I can trust that you're gonna take care of it and it's gonna be even better than what I could have hoped for, right? Because your plans are better than what mine could ever be in. You know, I've just also been thinking too that you know, God is so kind that sometimes you you you want the big break or you want the big whatever, right? We're talking about the the dream, the the aha moment of like, wow, this is why I've been doing this for all this time. However, I also think that God is so kind to keep you um hidden, right? To keep you in the in the dark or covered, whatever it is, because I ain't gonna lie, like when I look at sometimes bigger creators and things like that, and when they make a mishap or just like people and the comments and the attention and and and just everything, you be like, whoa. And like you want to make sure that your character can take you and sustain you. And I feel like sometimes there are a lot of people where their character cannot sustain them to the spotlight that they're in. So for me, I said, you know what, God, I just thank you that you have me in a space where I can continue working on my character so that when you take me to wherever it is you want me to, if it is a more visible place or or whatever, you know, that my character can sustain me in that space. So I thank you, God, that right now, while you know, maybe I make mistakes or whatever it is like that, like it's in a place where it's it's a quiet place, you know. And so uh I just want to encourage you with that as well, where maybe you're seeing you're feeling like you're overlooked and you know, like you've been going at this thing, it's like, well, maybe consider it a blessing that you know what, maybe there's some things I could work on, and thank God I don't have a million eyes on me while I'm figuring out. So, with that being said, thanks so much for chatting with me. Listen, if you found this chat valuable, please consider sharing it with someone who may also find this chat valuable.
