I don't need to hear it. I can still talk.
SPEAKER_02All right, all right. We are back with the Hot Ashes Podcast. I'm Lee. TK rushing his booty on over here. All right, all right. And we got Ed with us. It's a Tuesday, so uh, you know, normally we try to do these on the weekends, but it doesn't matter. We put them out every Monday. But with that, we would like to announce that we are going to try to move that to Wednesday. Am I am I right in saying that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we we're gonna look at it. Uh it's gonna happen eventually, but it'll be uh, you know, when it's when it's right, it's right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that's just because uh the editing process, we've we've kind of added a couple of things to it, and eventually we'd like to add a third camera, maybe even a fourth. Right. So we'll see. Uh for now. I'm smoking a George's box press torpedo. Um uh my favorite cigar, so you know I'm gonna be smoking it.
SPEAKER_00We're consistent up in this piece. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I'm drinking, uh, I'm gonna take a page out of my brother Jared's book, and I'm drinking that uh that high quality H2O. H2O, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes, sir. I'm rocking out with the George's, what is this, the Robusto? Is that what that is? Yeah, George's Robusto. Pretty much the same flavor as the box press. Little different, but pretty much the same exact thing almost. And uh, you know me, I'm on a nice coffee kick. Yeah, some good old energy.
SPEAKER_01Little little mid-afternoon uh pick-me-up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, especially after the day. It was a busy day at work, so yeah, need a little boost with the cigar. Dang.
SPEAKER_01And Ed, Mike three. I am on a Mike three smoking a uh sweet chain and also contributing in the uh H2O intake. So kind of hot to drink in the afternoon here.
SPEAKER_00So I just want to make it known that we're not like total degenerates on the show, like just blasting perniciouses at you know, Tuesday afternoon. Yeah. Yeah, no. We do have stuff that we have to get done from time to time.
SPEAKER_02We do, and that's look how long that song is.
SPEAKER_00Still going.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but what's funny is at the very end, we're always trying to do our takeaways before that ends, and I feel like it's I'd be watching it. I'm not sure. I know me too. Sometimes it goes long. I'm like, Yeah, but it's good. We have fun. Uh so uh what what was the first we just talked about what the first thing we were gonna say was.
SPEAKER_00We were gonna talk about how I'm about to go to the NY.
SPEAKER_02That's right. New York, New York, New York, New York, or just like New York State.
SPEAKER_00Country, yeah, New York State.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00The other New York. Yeah, the other New York. Yeah. Because as we all know, the city is just its own beast. It is, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I think I've only been there one time to the city.
SPEAKER_00Same. I've only been once. Once is enough. I do agree with that. I agree. But it was I mean, I do think it's I would I don't know if rite of passage is the right word, but you gotta go see it one time. Yeah, yeah. You do have to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I went up in the air uh what's it the Aaron Space Museum? I went up in the um Empire State Building. Why was that eluding me? Uh but I was like in high school, you know, as many moons ago. And it was fun, but you're going for like, what are you? It's always like a wedding or a get together.
SPEAKER_00We're going to we're going camping. Ooh. So Nicole's family has like a bunch of family, kind of sort of. It's like comparable to here, but less humid and not as hot. So it's like pretty nice. Gets kind of mild at night, so that's always cool when you're camping. Uh good for campfires. Yeah, there's nothing worse than it's like, yeah, it's still 87 degrees outside at 9 p.m.
SPEAKER_02Who wants to start a fire?
SPEAKER_00Nobody. Right. So there, her family and their family friends like have had this land forever, basically. They've been going since the 80s, so it's like a 50, 60 people deep for the good time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that is so. We had Jared on last episode, and he was telling us that he was going on his camping trip, a solo camping trip.
SPEAKER_01Excursion. All by himself, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is last week, you know, and and he he went up to mid uh central Shenandoah. And I I'm gonna let him tell the story because I think he's coming down again, and we're gonna try to do another episode if we can. Is he done? He's done. We've heard from him? I've heard from him.
SPEAKER_01There has been contact. Yeah, it's good. Okay, Sashox watching again.
SPEAKER_02He's alive. Thank God. Um I will say this before well. Just leave it. Yeah, I'll leave it. I'll leave it. It's it's yeah. Um, so he'll be on next episode, hopefully, and we'll get him to uh without Did he like it, yes or no?
SPEAKER_00Never mind. Never mind.
SPEAKER_02The pause it all it's not that, it's it's the I can't I can't tell you, I can't tell you. Don't worry about it, Jared will tell you.
SPEAKER_00That's like when somebody asks me, like, so what's that movie about? I'm like, I can't even start to tell you because then I'm gonna just end up accidentally spoiling.
SPEAKER_02Watch the trailer because I'm gonna ruin it. Right.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna tell you what happens at the very end.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I mean, uh oh, speaking of movies, and we'll get back to your trip. Uh people have been telling me around the table this movie X Machina or X Machina, I don't know how to do it.
SPEAKER_00Did you watch it? I did. What'd you think of it? Worth it was good. All right, I'm definitely watching it. Not that that Chris's recommendation wasn't good enough, but I would have forgotten. But I would have forgot had you not brought it back up.
SPEAKER_02Last because I was like, man, I don't feel like watching a show.
SPEAKER_01Is that the one where the guy has an AI girlfriend or something?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's not a girlfriend, it's an AI girl, but no, I think you're thinking of um I think it's called Joaquin Phoenix.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, her which is actually a good movie. I haven't seen that movie. Weirdly, it's a good movie, actually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I haven't seen that. But this is this is a 2015 movie. I didn't know it was that old, and it'll man, it's like they knew this is what AI could be doing potentially, and you're like what yeah, they knew, but they don't know what it's doing right now, like right crazy AI.
SPEAKER_01They had a pretty good guess then.
SPEAKER_02If they if this was what, 10 years ago, yeah, and we we talk about AI a lot on here because it's it's taken over, man. It's taken over people's jobs, it's taken over it's crazy, bro.
SPEAKER_01You know, I mean I use it every day. I I can't, you know, fixing your car, fixing something you don't know either.
SPEAKER_02You have to learn it. Yep. You know, you don't be behind, don't be left behind. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean uh think about it.
SPEAKER_02My son hates it, he hates AI. I mean, me too, but comma. I do yeah, there's things I hate about it, you know. But we hate it, but we still use it. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00It's a necessary evil, I guess, right? It's like even with the Google, you could hate Google, but like, hey, if I don't know how to do something, I'm not gonna just not get said thing done. Right. I'll still look it up.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. I still use the YouTube videos for one thing.
SPEAKER_02Makes everybody an expert. I was watching, um, I was telling you I was watching that thing on on DaVinci Resolve on YouTube. That's all I do.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, it's gonna take a look at when I run into a problem, I'm like, let me go on YouTube real quick. Somebody's had this problem.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's amazing how many videos are specific to your needs.
SPEAKER_00I was watching a YouTube video, or maybe it was like a short or an Instagram reel or something like that. And the person was saying, if you can't get rich right now with all of the tools that you have at your disposal, which obviously easier said than delegate. Map it out for us, but you're filming this from inside of a geo tracker. I don't like we just need money to get rich.
SPEAKER_01Just you need money to start at it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Money makes money. So with a small loan of a million dollars from my mom.
SPEAKER_00Heard that before. We could turn it into 500,000.
SPEAKER_02There you go.
SPEAKER_00Now that's my kind of math right there. That's what I would do in a casino.
SPEAKER_01Uh I've been known to watch hundred dollar bills disappear at a casino.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude. You love to give away.
SPEAKER_01I'm like a magician in a casino.
SPEAKER_02You love giving away money at casinos, dude. He's like, I went to the casino, lost my ass. Like every time, you gotta win sometimes.
SPEAKER_00It just turns into a 501 3C, and as soon as he gets in the doors, he's like, I got you, I got you.
SPEAKER_01I like it when you you know, you're but you're getting free drinks, aren't you? Uh not at all casinos, but some. Yeah, most. Some of the Indian casinos can't give you free drinks and stuff, part of the you know, rules and whatever. There's a casino we go to with my mom up in um in Maine, Oxford, which is a really good casino. And I I spend time with my it's a trip that we take every time I go up to visit. It's kind of our little thing and stuff, but uh they don't do uh free drinks there. I gotcha. So I pay plenty for those drinks, trust me.
SPEAKER_02Well, at least they don't give you the drinks and then take them back.
SPEAKER_01They do give you good pores though. So though nobody, nothing.
SPEAKER_00Nah. Like an Indian giver.
SPEAKER_02Wait, dude. You can't say that. You can't say that. Oh man. Anyway. I'm gonna have to bleep that out. Right.
SPEAKER_00Show cancelled the uh in Mexico, the casino that was attached to the resort was its own separate entity. I mean, it was inside the resort, but as soon as you walked in, your drink package wasn't good, nothing was good, you had to buy the drinks, and they did not give them to you for free.
SPEAKER_02Really? That's how they get you, man. That's how they get you.
SPEAKER_00The uh the But it was cheap. It wasn't wildly expensive, but it was its own thing. I think they have some sort of laws where it was like it can't be attached. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was the one of the uh stipulations when the casino was granted. You know, they voted on the casino in Maine was you couldn't give out free drinks. Right.
SPEAKER_02So Which I mean that does kind of make sense. Like Yeah, you don't want well, they want to because it loosens you up.
SPEAKER_01The more drinks you have, the more you're willing to play.
SPEAKER_02Deal with the aftermath.
SPEAKER_00Why are all these homes foreclosing?
SPEAKER_01Hey, it's kind of funny how many dispensaries are around the casino up there, and maybe that's like three or four on the way up there.
SPEAKER_02Is that a recreational state?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, very much so. Oh, I didn't know that. Yep.
SPEAKER_02When are we going camping up there? Uh we're supposed to go in the fall. Oh, yeah, but you're gonna have freaking surgery.
SPEAKER_01Uh, we can always hold off on that. Yeah. Do you have a time that's set up? No, I'm still waiting for the MRI and stuff like that. So, but the inevitable is coming. I've been fighting it for years and it's just finally catching up. Yeah. I don't know if it's a fact that I'm turning 55 next month. I think it's a combination of everything.
SPEAKER_00I'll be having surgery at the end of this month. For what? My wisdom teeth. Oh man, that ain't wisdom teeth.
SPEAKER_02That don't freaking count.
SPEAKER_00I mean, they're gonna cut me open. I mean, at your age.
SPEAKER_02Tell Nicole to video you though, coming off the anesthesia. Okay. Are they causing issues? Like where they're pushing the other teeth forward and you'll be like, you think that episode sounded bad? Right.
SPEAKER_00Those will be undisclosed files. Yeah. It's like I'm biting my cheeks. Oh, yeah, yeah. I remember that. I'll be eating and then we'll be like, ah, damn.
SPEAKER_02I still have my wisdom teeth, and they just said you're No, I had one out on recruiting duty and then three out when I got back. Because they were just bothering me. It was like pent.
SPEAKER_01Evan's gonna get his out. Uh that's part of his um readiness. Readiness at so he's in the field this uh today.
SPEAKER_02Well, it sucks that the thing that he was supposed to be doing this weekend is not happening anymore.
SPEAKER_01Well, we found out part of the reason and why you heard about that micro burst down in uh New River, right? That damaged a bunch of the Helos and stuff.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there was uh apparently a weather system there either, I think, beginning of last week that did some damage to some of the yeah, and uh I think that's part of the reason why they just either didn't have the assets to be able to continue with the mission or okay, so it wasn't what we thought. Yeah, yep.
SPEAKER_02Damn.
SPEAKER_01So he was he's definitely bummed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's a bummer, man. That's a bummer.
SPEAKER_01But he volunteered to go in the field today. He loves the field, man. Yeah, he he knows he's his time's you know short with sitting behind desks. So he gets a chance to go to the field, he jumps on it.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's good. He's not always gonna feel that way.
SPEAKER_01No, that's what I said. I said talk to me tomorrow after you you know spent the night in a hot tent.
SPEAKER_02And it's hot and sticky and your camis are all gross. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They're doing some type of operation tonight. So ew.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's nice. Nah, man, when it's like a little cooler out. Same thing with camping. The weather's nice. I mean, you're gonna get rained on if you're in the field. That's just gonna happen. But like if the weather's you know not too hot, not too cold.
SPEAKER_01I mean, fall camping, I think, is the best, you know, when you put a sweatshirt on at night and sit at a campfire. Well, 100%.
SPEAKER_02Do you have lightweight stuff?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So you're is it like a backpacking type deal?
SPEAKER_01Are you tenting or are you glamour camping? It's like a mix.
SPEAKER_02Dude, that stuff gets expensive, man.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it does.
SPEAKER_02I was looking at a three-person tent, you know, just for me and Penny. $404.
SPEAKER_01Well, Penny makes two people.
SPEAKER_02Penny, yeah, she's but I want to take her with me. I think we're gonna have to do that. We bought like a six-man.
SPEAKER_00We bought like a ten-person tent.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I used to have a big one. I used to have giggity. I used to have a six man, but and I still do up somewhere for the family, but it's just me now, so and Penny. But a two-person ain't gonna cut it with a great dane, so we'll we'll do a three-person. But I you know, we'll start out at Hammock's Beach, try it out, see how it goes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I would camp around here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. There's apparently somewhere in the Croatan, there's a trail of some kind where bring your bug spray. Yeah. Oh, yeah, here for sure. Definitely. Well, and then the thermocell things are are good. You know those things, the little they're okay. They're supposed to be like 15 feet. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00What do they do? Like scare off the bugs?
SPEAKER_02It's like a fuel packet that goes into the bottom and then a blue mat that goes in there, and it basically burns that, and whatever chemical is on that is smokes, and there you go. Oh, I know, you just don't like that. Yeah, so I have a couple of those. So you just place those, like if I'm out back, I'm I've screened in porch already, but there's a couple of screens that need repair from these last weather things. So I'm getting a couple bugs in, not many, but then I'll put those two on, and it's like nothing. No mosquitoes. I know Mojo.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, man. I feel like last year I didn't really get tore up by mosquitoes that bad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was gonna say they say watch out for the ticks. There's a couple of new tick-borne diseases that they're yeah, the lone star tick, man.
SPEAKER_02That'll give you the uh Alpha Gow syndrome where you can't eat meat ever again. Didn't you know that?
SPEAKER_00What does it make you do? Just you're allergic to it? Yeah, it makes you allergic to all red meat. Rigamarole to get back to get to get rid of it.
SPEAKER_02You're not gonna get rid of it. It's like with you for so my buddy Stengels, whoops, my buddy has it. He used his government name. Anyway, he's got he was he was down here and telling me about it. I was like, get the F out of here. And a couple of my friends have Lyme disease, which is different, but it can be, you know, can lead to the city. He's allergic to red meat. Yeah, he he could die like eating that crap. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I got Lyme disease back when I was in the service. Yeah, but you can still eat meat. Oh, yeah, thank God. Yeah, imagine. Never get to enjoy a steak ever again.
SPEAKER_02But this lone star tick gives you, I guess, I think it's called Alpha Gal syndrome. I just if I'm wrong. I know the internet people are gonna tell us. It does sound correct. I feel like I've heard it. Yeah, and uh who's working with ticks now? There's like a super billionaire that's working with ticks a lot now. Yeah. Bill Gates, right? Yeah, and he isn't he the one that's engineering that meat. So shocker. Who would stand to gain if the population all got 16 minutes in sick? No, who like if we all got sick and couldn't eat red meat, what would we have to turn to?
SPEAKER_01The product. His product. What weird. Haven't they been mysteriously dropping out of the sky in boxes too? Oh yeah. That is the farm where it's like.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a bunch of his animals got killed.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02Hmm. Strange. Things that make you go, hmm.
SPEAKER_00Things that make you not want to be a farmer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Or a freaking podcaster. We keep talking about this kind of stuff. Well, all I know is We're on lists, I know that.
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to balance it out. I you are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, stop messing with our stuff. Quit fucking with our food, our water, our air. Am I wrong in that? No. Freedom should mean we're free to like, you know, not have chemicals sprayed on it.
SPEAKER_00The thing is, golfing could be hazard because sometimes where my ball ends up, bro, you might have some ticks on you, bro.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You know what you should wear underneath your pants. Underwear?
SPEAKER_00Pantyhose. Pantyhose. No, thanks. No.
SPEAKER_02I'm for real, dude. Ticks. Pantyhose. Hunters wear pantyhose.
SPEAKER_00Like cut them off.
SPEAKER_02You think I'm kidding? I'm not getting anything. No, I know. I understand. I can't get through it. I I get to get it. So they're not gonna get you. And that's where they typically are, too.
SPEAKER_01They love the warm spots in your body, too.
SPEAKER_02Yes. In the in the satchel region.
SPEAKER_00I found I've found a tick in the crease right there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I found one. Especially if he's embedded, it's a lot of fun to remove. That's before.
SPEAKER_02That's back before they released the alpha gal and all that.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. Well, what what is it with the uh the Limes disease ones have the white dot, right? The deer ticks.
SPEAKER_02No, that's the uh lone star tick.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Well, what the hell? How do you identify the one that has the Lyme disease?
SPEAKER_02Just kill every tick. Oh, keep it and then take it to the Oh well.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna be like, all right, buddy, go back out there.
SPEAKER_02No, I mean kill it, but keep it so you can identify it so you can take it to uh make sure you get the head out.
SPEAKER_00That's what it is, right? That's the most important thing. Because you can pull it off you, but the head could still be in there, right? Right. Yeah. Does it regenerate? No.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Like a whole body, just because you ripped its body off from its head and it's just gonna regenerate into a new tick.
SPEAKER_00That's where it causes the infections and the problems. I mean, hell, if it can make you not eat meat ever again, who knows what it can do.
SPEAKER_02That's true. Like a super bionic freaking mutant alien damn tick. Okay. Alien ticks. Now that's now.
SPEAKER_01Can it make me not lose money in the casino again? Ever again?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, make it allergic, make me allergic to losing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there you go. Oh man. Ridiculous, completely ridiculous. So, yeah, there's ticks, new, new, uh, newfound fear.
SPEAKER_00Dude, but that's kind of crazy though, like how those things are possible. Like, hey, um, one of the um risks or whatever in you because you have to watch this video before you get your wisdom teeth out. So yeah. Everything could go wrong. Everything could write. Everything that's like that is like the very low risk compared to what they describe in there.
SPEAKER_02Well, don't smoke.
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah, you can't smoke cigars for at least two weeks. I know that part, but they were talking about you could lose your sense of taste. Like, imagine like losing your sense of taste, dude. That would suck so bad.
SPEAKER_01What's if you had to pick a sense to lose, like you had you you had a choice, you were going to lose one sense. What you would you pick? Would it be the sight, the taste?
SPEAKER_02You can't say smell because it's in your ghost smell. And sight would really suck. I think sight would be. It would be terrifying. I think that would be the worst. Hearing would really suck too.
SPEAKER_01I'd give up hearing before sight, though. I think so too. I guess touch. But it's amazing though when somebody loses one of their senses of how your body adapts.
SPEAKER_02They make it sound like you're spider man, you got spider senses. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I mean I don't want to find out that theory, okay?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no kidding. Uh or you can just learn how to play the piano really well or something like that. But I uh yeah, no, I don't I don't think any of them, but if I had to, it might be touch, man. Or maybe eyes. I I I could be blind.
SPEAKER_01Sight, smell, touch. I'd give up smell, I think, if I had to.
SPEAKER_02Nah, because then taste is gone. Taste. You can't taste without smelling. Hearing. I don't think.
SPEAKER_01Well, isn't it weird how we lost our taste and our smell during COVID if you had COVID back in the day?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I didn't lose I had COVID, but I didn't lose any of that.
SPEAKER_00I did for one day when I had it, but it came back. I was like, when it happened though, I was like, no.
SPEAKER_02No. That does suck.
SPEAKER_00Because the people that you were hearing stories about people losing it for like six months or eight months and stuff like that, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I know somebody who who didn't who still doesn't have her sense of smell.
SPEAKER_00See, that's psycho.
SPEAKER_02You know how many years ago that was still does not have a sense of six. Every now and then she'll smell a hint of some certain like flower smelling chasing, like but nothing else can't smell. Damn. Yeah. Isn't that crazy? Solange has a friend with long COVID, like still sick. Like they're a carrier ticket or ticket. Get out of bed like just weak and headaches and damn.
SPEAKER_01Like mono. Remember mono back in the day? The kissing disease. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Back in the day. Isn't that still a thing?
SPEAKER_01You got to stay home from school for a little while if you got it in school. Hang on. That's always a good thing.
SPEAKER_00What is that attack again?
SPEAKER_02Mono? Yeah. It's like the immune system, right?
SPEAKER_00Well, that, but I thought it was a certain part of you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I'm talking about, though, right? Yeah, but doesn't it make you just tired and you're in bed all day or whatever?
SPEAKER_00Super lethargic.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you want to build the thing? I heard everybody got was chicken pox.
SPEAKER_01I mean, my third grade. With our but all my friends had it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because back then they would all the kids would come out. They wanted everybody to get it. Yeah, so you could be done with it. So you can get shingles later. I think my br my older brother might have gotten it twice.
SPEAKER_01I got the shot you can get a shot now if you 'cause I've had shingles a couple of times. And it usually gets me when I'm sickened down. No, it's painful. Right. But you can get a shot now, and it's supposed to be helps with the the you know the
SPEAKER_00Shingles. Damn. That sucks. Dude, I heard I knew somebody, like one of my coworkers' wives. I mean, they're obviously older or whatever. She got shingles on her damn eye, bro.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, the eyeball or eyelid. Like that gets it out to be the eyelid. Out here.
SPEAKER_00Like, imagine how bad that was. Like on her eyeball.
SPEAKER_02I was like, wait a minute, that's stupid. It has to be on the epidermis. But uh, no, that's fucking shitty. Can you imagine? Like, it's like, where's the worst place to get poison ivy?
SPEAKER_00I know a few places.
SPEAKER_02I think it's your butthole.
SPEAKER_00Undercarriage.
SPEAKER_01Anywhere down there. It's already itchy enough without any of that stuff. Well, the heat. Can you imagine getting it during the summer? Shower might fix that.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02And you know how when you're in the shower and you have it like on your leg or something, you just put it on the hottest fucking, and it's just burning, but it feels so damn good too. He knows it itches so bad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01When I was a kid, my dad had a burn pile out back and he was burning all the brush and stuff when I was, you know, as a kid running through the smoke and whatever. He was burning poison ivy. Oh my god. And I got it all over. It was bad enough I had to go to the hospital. And it was just everywhere. It was in my eyes. You know.
SPEAKER_00Did it do anything to like your lungs from inhaling it? It it was rough.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I was like 10. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00I know I tore you up.
SPEAKER_01So ever since then, I seem to be a little more susceptible to.
SPEAKER_02You've never had poison ivy? No.
SPEAKER_00Maybe you're immune to it.
SPEAKER_02Have you ever been bit by a fire ant? Yes. Do you swell up a little bit and it itches real bad?
SPEAKER_00It's basically like a mosquito bite on steroids. Yeah, but it itches real bad.
SPEAKER_02It's like burning. It's kind of like a big thing. Imagine that, but like all over your whole entire section of forearm or whatever. Nah. Yeah, it sucks, dude. And all you want to do is itch.
SPEAKER_00You know what else it just jellyfish stings once the shit subsides. You're just gonna pee on it.
SPEAKER_02I used to get pained a lot by jellyfish. But now Madison got stung by a Portuguese man of war when we were in a war.
SPEAKER_00Can't that kill you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Those little freaking blue things or purplish blue, man. She screamed bloody murder. And she was young too. And I was like, oh my god, and we freaked out and took her out of there. But uh Lee's like, I don't even have to pee right now. I wonder if she remembers that. But she's a trooper. I mean, not that day. She cried the whole time.
SPEAKER_00Hold her down while I pee on her. I mean, for good reason.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know, I know. Do you remember the Friends episode where Yes.
SPEAKER_00But I didn't watch the episode, but I've seen enough clips of it.
SPEAKER_02You you haven't seen every episode of Friends? I've seen every episode of that.
SPEAKER_01How long would that take to watch every episode? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I think nine years now. It wasn't on for like nine seasons.
SPEAKER_01A long time.
SPEAKER_02Friends? Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I'm just I'm assuming. Esteeming.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of episodes, what do we have to do with 44? This is 42. Approaching 50, what are we gonna do for the biggest?
SPEAKER_02This is Lee Petty's number, his racing number. Oh, snap. And Kyle Petty. Lee Petty was Richard Petty's dad.
SPEAKER_00And then, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And Richard Petty was 43. Yeah. And then I think Lee Petty because he died, his son raced a little bit, but not much. I don't know much about racing. My dad was in a NASCAR. I wasn't.
SPEAKER_00I like NASCAR, but the hist history kind of escapes me sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Most people learned about bootlegging uh from Taladaga Night. How did NASCAR get its start? Bootlegging. North Wilkesboro. Oh, is that where it started? Did you know we were talking about uh speaking of places that places things started? Uh Rusty has a couple of Venus fly traps.
SPEAKER_00I just seen a picture of that on a story earlier.
SPEAKER_02So you know where they're uh they're where they originate? North Carolina and only, yeah. Like a 70-mile stretch by Wilmington and US Croatan, you know, only just a like 70-mile, I think, stretch, but it's Wilmington here and a little bit of South Carolina.
SPEAKER_00That's kind of crazy to think about because you look at it, you're like, that's gotta come from like the jungle or something like that. And it could be a good thing. Nowhere else in the world.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Isn't that crazy?
SPEAKER_02Another place them either. You gotta buy them from a store, which is where did they get them? From they poach them, where do you think? The only place they originate from. Yeah. They got a permit or something to go pick them. Not that I want a Venus flytrap. I had one and killed it. Rusty's are doing fine. But he had one, uh, he showed me the picture, and he he uh went out to check his tomatoes and there was a caterpillar on the tomatoes. So he was like, he grabbed it and put it in the Venus flytrap, and it closed up. She gone. Next morning when he came out, but hole in the Venus flytrap, the caterpillar ate its way out.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_02He's like, watch this. It's opened back up, but it's got a circle right in it from that caterpillar eating its way out. It was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Can they live forever?
SPEAKER_02No, they they basically die off, but new ones are are coming up.
SPEAKER_00I gotcha.
SPEAKER_02There is a plant that I just heard of that basically like go looks like it's dying, but then it comes all the way back to life. I don't know, man. I'm not a plant expert.
SPEAKER_00I'm no uh horticultural.
SPEAKER_02We got a bunch of those dudes around here, though, because every time we these days everybody's talking about it, yeah, you gotta do this to the soil. I'm like, man, how did the Vikings do it? Remember, they were just cutting into the dirt and throwing some seeds down, and then they had vegetables and shit. That was before I gotta go buy black cow and freaking you know. That was before pollution. Miracle grow. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Soil was probably a lot better quality in these random locations at that time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I can't even grow something in a pot. No, I can actually. My peppers are turning out very good. I have ghost peppers growing, they're big and nasty looking. And hot. Carolina pepper uh Carolina Reapers, but they're not growing yet. And then I got a bunch of jalapenos and other kinds of habaneros.
SPEAKER_00I'm sad, bro. I'm not gonna see Roger do the thing.
SPEAKER_02If we can do it, uh he's only here for this weekend, and Saturday's the fourth, so we may have to do it Sunday, and he's gonna have to be okay with that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Wednesday leaving Monday?
SPEAKER_02Jared will be here, huh?
SPEAKER_01He's leaving Monday, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so. He said he's here Friday through Sunday.
SPEAKER_01So he'll go home, he'll leave wherever he's going on Monday with an upset stomach. He'll start his trip off in a bad way.
SPEAKER_02That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01He needs to do it before then because it hurts coming in and coming out.
SPEAKER_02So have you done it? Yeah, yeah. You did the bear.
SPEAKER_01I did a little nibble of it. Evan did it for Christmas one time. Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it ruined his Christmas. Ruin his Christmas.
SPEAKER_01He was like, he was he was laying on the couch all upset at himself. I've ruined Christmas because we put it in his stocking and then he got all you know big and brave. And I can eat this. He's like, I'll do it. Oh, yeah. It was they're rough. Yeah. I mean, you know, they've got a big warning on it.
SPEAKER_02And Trace was in the bathtub after that. I like trying to cool it out.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00I I you gotta drink milk and eat bread. Bro, imagine it being like Swiss Day, and it's like you can't even like open any more presents. You're not excited to eat the food. Oh, he's just nothing.
SPEAKER_02You just curled over on the couch.
SPEAKER_01It was about an hour, hour and a half where he was down and out.
SPEAKER_02Damn, dude. That's what I mean. The button wanna do this though. Roger's gonna do the whole thing on the show. I mean, we can sit here as long as we can.
SPEAKER_01We sell them at the candy store. We always have to put a disclaimer on there. But these are legit. Don't let you know.
SPEAKER_00Do not give this to your seven-year-old.
SPEAKER_01No. I want to sprinkle them in the gummy bear bulk.
SPEAKER_02Like rushing through the head. Yeah. I don't want to touch it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because you touch it and then you touch your eyes. Exactly. So you're getting burnover. It's like being in the other people do it.
SPEAKER_02There's got to be a challenge online or something where they're eating it.
SPEAKER_00It's worse than the chip challenge, I think. I did the one chip challenge on how to go home from work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you said. You and your coworker, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, me and my boy did it, and I was like, as soon as we bit into it, we were like, oh no. Oh dear. You know immediately. Right.
SPEAKER_01You're like, I screwed up.
SPEAKER_00Yes. As soon as you go on front, and you can't go back. It's not like I'm gonna undo this. Well, you take it's a chip, so as soon as you go, the dust is just like everywhere.
SPEAKER_02You can't just scrape it off. Nothing is embedded into your soul.
SPEAKER_00Done for, dude. Your lips are all like swolled up. It was bad.
SPEAKER_02You get those It's like, I'm going home. I'm not asking. I'm going home.
SPEAKER_00No, that's what we both said. And our boss looked at us and was like, I can't even argue with you by the way y'all look right now. Like, yeah, you ain't gonna you're not gonna accomplish anything here anyway.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Go home. You're gonna be crying.
SPEAKER_01You had the collagen lips. 100%. That's what it looked like. People don't have to go pay for that stuff. Just eat the packy chip. You're good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Way cheaper.
SPEAKER_02That's good. No, I mean it's not good, but it's that's a funny story, and I I can't wait to have one on the show here. Um, so we'll try to do it. I wish you could be here for it.
SPEAKER_00I've seen somebody eat the chip before and just carry on, which was concerned.
SPEAKER_02Some people don't have that.
SPEAKER_01I promise you though, you after you see the you know, his consequences of eating the chip, the chip or the gummy bear, you're not gonna go, oh, I'll do it now. I'm never gonna do it. I never do it. If you're gonna do it, you gotta do it in a group and do it together because after I see the results on the.
SPEAKER_02Well that's gonna be him and Rusty both doing it. And Rusty said he's done it. Well, he did half of it with Trey.
SPEAKER_00That's not the whole thing.
SPEAKER_02And I don't know if he'll be in town this weekend, but he made it look like he might not be. But we'll we'll see. We'll try to.
SPEAKER_01And you think the first thing you want to do is grab water, and that just makes it worse. So no.
SPEAKER_02Uh-uh. Milk. Milk and bread. Right. And even to some extreme that, you know, heats that's milk, it's not doing much. A man, one time I ate a jalapeno out of my garden that was so hot and it just stayed in my throat, and I was just burning, and I didn't have any milk, but I had a heavy whipping cream. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00I mean, uh, and if you think about it, it does seem like maybe one of the better things to do.
SPEAKER_02But it was so gross. I was like, please don't.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's like what we were saying on the last episode. It's not heat anymore at that level. It's just pain. It's not heat. Not heat. It's the stinging, it's physical pain.
SPEAKER_02God bless. I don't, I almost don't want him to do it.
SPEAKER_00But I mean, do you know what it's derived from? Do you know what peppers it is in the gummy bear?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I think it says it on there that it's made out of ghost peppers and Carolina peppers.
SPEAKER_01But it's like over a million, what are they, what's that? Nine million scovers. Nine million Scoville units. Woof.
SPEAKER_02Dude, that's you can't even stuff. Uh I suggest he handles it with rubber gloves and yeah, and we need to have milk and he needs to have his wife here to drive him for when they're done.
SPEAKER_01And a consent farm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, true. We do not take any responsibility on the hot ones. You voluntarily are doing this. I don't want to film his dad.
SPEAKER_00It's all for views. You know what I'm saying? I'd rather not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I'd rather not. We would do it on your SD card, not mine. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm pretty sure it hasn't killed anybody.
SPEAKER_00They're still selling them, so fine, fine, fine, fine, fine print. It's like if you pass away, we did not do this. Yep.
SPEAKER_02Because how do they make sure the concentrate if you're eating the whole thing doesn't matter anyway. But like, let's say we split it. Well, what if you have more of a concentration of those peppers than my side does?
SPEAKER_01Or how do they are they in the arms and you've got the legs? Yeah, how do they do that? Right? Because it's just gel.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but pepper flakes.
SPEAKER_01But the the gummy bear like gets stuck in your teeth and stuff like you know, yeah, so you make it even worse.
SPEAKER_02And you can't swallow it whole because then it's just in there, not chewed up. And now it's burning a hole through your belly. Burning, dude.
SPEAKER_00No, dude, you can't do that. That I feel like that would be a medical risk if you just was like, Yeah, I would probably go make myself throw up. Oh man.
SPEAKER_02Nah, that's not that. And then it doesn't count.
SPEAKER_00I will tell you you pay the price again the next morning. I don't even want to think about that part. Dude. No, thank you. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02I want to hear from people who have actually done it before we get Roger on here. So in the comments, please say whether you've done it so we can get Roger to do it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and by the way, we sell them at Candy Adventure at 640 West Corbett F. If you'd like to take the challenge with us. That's right.
SPEAKER_02You don't even have to speculate. You can just try it for yourself. If you want to take it, not this episode, but the next episode, if that's when we do it, and you take it at the same time. See if you can outlast Roger for how long he sits at the table. Before he has to get up and it would be cool if we had people send us video of them doing it so we know it actually happened. Here's us watching the show. I'm gonna do it at the same time as Roger. You know, it'll probably be a regular gummy bear, though. Just a regular come out of the package. Yeah, see, I already figured it out before I finish. Never mind about the video. You just either do it or don't. Right. No, it'll be a fun one, but we gotta think of other things to do like that, like challenge type deals. Or not even like I like when we have food on here sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Me too.
SPEAKER_02So I love food. Yeah, but people, especially Roger, brings some awesome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean he's a heavy hitter when it comes to the smoking. He brings that steak in, but that's on point.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that over the top chili that Cody brought, I know we've been talking about that a few times, but it was damn, it was worth bringing back up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was good. Well, Cody won't be doing a whole lot of cooking.
SPEAKER_00You can only cook with one hand, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Cody's one armed. I don't know if we talked about it last week.
SPEAKER_00What's his downtime? We didn't talk about the actual injury, no.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he'll be on the show at some point, and you'll see his arm in a little bit of a cast.
SPEAKER_01And it's just a freak accident.
SPEAKER_02I mean poor Cody. Yeah, he I mean, I won't he hurt his arm uh working on the truck and had to get surgery, and so now he's yeah, he's down for a little bit.
SPEAKER_00They got him in quick, was that like uh very quick. Shows you the severity of the injury if they got him in that fast. I'm saying though, it was like necessary, like you need to have this done type thing. Yeah, it was like hanging on by a thread.
SPEAKER_02His whole arm was hanging not just no, but yeah, he had to do that, and then Frank, we talked about this the other day, broke his leg, getting into his kayak, slipped on the thing. But Frank's actually walking around.
SPEAKER_01He looked good the other day.
SPEAKER_02I was abused you were saying you gotta get surgery. I'm like, dude.
SPEAKER_01We're all just getting old and falling apart. Yeah, you're getting your tonsils, or not your tonsils, your wisdom teeth into it, yeah.
SPEAKER_00At least that's not like an injury.
SPEAKER_01They give you some good drugs, you'll be alright.
SPEAKER_00I'll be like, uh Yeah, that's the thing.
SPEAKER_01Like uh Frank and you gotta get your wife to videotape you after you come off the anesthesia because you'll be all goofy.
SPEAKER_02I said I think make sure Nicole takes a video of that and we'll we'll clip it on the show.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna be like, bro, fuck my life.
SPEAKER_02I hate this.
SPEAKER_00We might have to bleep a few things out because probably no, it'll be fun. She'll be like, What'd you say?
SPEAKER_02And the anesthesia? Anesthesia. Anesthesia.
SPEAKER_01Have you ever sat there and tried to count like when you know you're going under?
SPEAKER_02You're like, I'm just like, I wonder if they put the Yeah. I've never been put under. The stuff they give you now, they pull you right back out. You're not all groggy like back in the day. You're like, you I got my senses back pretty quick.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's not like a hangover type effect? No, not anymore.
SPEAKER_02For the stuff they gave me for the last time.
SPEAKER_00Hopefully they give me that because I don't I've never been put under.
SPEAKER_02That wasn't a doctor, that was my neighbor. We were just hanging out.
SPEAKER_00Well, tell him to come to my appointment with me and like you guys save your meds.
SPEAKER_01I got a guy. I went in for a procedure to get I had uh I have reflux, so I went in to get my reflux treated, and the doctor thought it was funny. He was a friend of mine. He thought it was funny as I was going under. He's like, Oh, you're in for a colonoscopy as I'm going out. Oh, what do you say? Wake up.
SPEAKER_02We'll have that, we'll have that sex change done right up for you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. His sense of humor is a little off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right, Gary, don't be nervous. My name's not Gary.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's don't all right, Gary. Don't get a boner, don't get a boner, don't get a boner, and said, My name's Nick. Yeah, mine's Gary.
SPEAKER_00That's so bad.
SPEAKER_02It's awesome. It was a prostate exam.
SPEAKER_01Oh, those are the worst.
SPEAKER_02I wouldn't know because now they use that uh your blood work.
SPEAKER_01Did you hear about the coming out with AI is gonna do a full body scan now? Like that's kind of like an MRI.
SPEAKER_02MRI that's gonna get my stuff wrong too.
SPEAKER_01It'll do the whole body. So that some of the ARI coming out is is super beneficial.
SPEAKER_00All right, medical professionals, count your days.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yep. It's gonna be like idiocracy. Remember that so it says here you you kind of a dickhead or whatever.
SPEAKER_01He's like, You watch that movie is just too accurate now.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Where's your where's your tattoo? I've seen that movie too many times.
SPEAKER_01Just imagine I want to watch it. Plants gotta grow from water, not the Gatorade or whatever it is.
SPEAKER_02It's got what Prance Clave. It's got what Prance Crave. Plants crave. Jeez. Damn. I know, dude. Say that ten times fast. But yeah, check out uh ex machina, Mikachina.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm gonna have to watch that now. Now I won't forget.
SPEAKER_02Well, I need another movie to watch. Although I'll probably just watch my shows, my stories. So I've got three shows I'm watching. I watch one at a time. But the same three. So I'm watching Deadwood.
SPEAKER_01That's right. You told me.
SPEAKER_02I can't remember if I'm on season two yet or not. And it sounds like a cowboy. Which is fantastic. Fantastic. And um Oz from the 90s. Yeah, that old HBO prison show. It's pretty good. Oh snap. It's pretty good, man. I used to watch it when I was in high school.
SPEAKER_01It's better now when you can really understand more of what's going on. You get the adult concepts more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but uh it's a good show. They're all good shows, but it's like, man, I don't want to watch TV right now and watch a movie.
SPEAKER_01It'd be like I watched all the Sopranos, but it was so long ago you could rewatch them and you know, you forgot something or miss something. Right.
SPEAKER_02And I hadn't seen it back then, but I watched it because people wouldn't shut up about it. And I was like, okay, fine. Watch it all the way through. Loved it. Love the Sopranos. Have you seen it? I have love it. But then lately, since I'm on this kick where I'm not drinking during the week and I'm working out and all this stuff, I've been reading more than watching my shows. So I'm like burning through books like it's crazy, man. I finished like three or four books in two weeks. Nice, nice. And I'm reading my sequel right now, that murder mystery one's pretty good.
SPEAKER_00I bought a Kindle.
SPEAKER_02Did you? Yeah. I tried it again. It's $150 or something.
SPEAKER_00I just got the basic one. It was only $100. Oh, really? Yeah. Works perfect. It's all I need. Yeah. Did you take care of that?
SPEAKER_01Take advantage of that Amazon Prime week.
SPEAKER_00Nah, I just bought it at uh Target.
SPEAKER_02See, I should have probably. I was gonna give him mine, but it's so old, it won't charge the battery, will not charge anymore. It just it's the whole stuff.
SPEAKER_01Oh, here, take this one that doesn't work. Thanks, Lee. No, I said let me using it.
SPEAKER_02I said, let me see if it'll charge up. And I tried for two days and it I had it here plugged in.
SPEAKER_01Funny how those batteries and phones and you know electronics have a life expectancy just as the new renewals time or yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's like, wait, let's use statistics, find out exactly when our our part fails, and then let's make two months before that when the warranty fails. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, when the warranty goes out. It's statistical, you know.
SPEAKER_00We'll give you 150,000 miles on this truck.
SPEAKER_02That's why it's always like, oh, my warranty just expired. You think that's not by design, dude? No, that's by design.
SPEAKER_01And why sometimes warranty work is like for instance, what's that that jeep Cherokee or whatever? You have to literally lift the frame off the body off the frame to do like a simple fuse change. Oh, geez. I mean, that's done by design.
SPEAKER_00Dude. Um you have to take it in. It was also good timing because we're about to go on a road trip. So I was like, you know what? Me and Nicole can just pass it back and forth.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Well, that's the thing, too. For something like that for camping, for you know, like a trip of any kind, you could take as many books as you want on a Kindle. So that's that's where I would say, yeah, Kendall's cool.
SPEAKER_00And I heard the battery life is like insane.
SPEAKER_02It's very good. Yeah, it's very good. But I do like a physical book.
SPEAKER_00Same though. I do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, it's something about it's like you know, the never-ending story, you know, it's like uh or book fairs. We talked about that before, man. Elementary school book fairs. When you were a kid, oh you were so excited. You had the freaking, you had the the little catalog first, and you took it home and you circled all the things you want.
SPEAKER_00Damn, they knew what they were doing with that.
SPEAKER_02And your parents uncircled all of them, but I was like, Back when kids read this, I want that. Yeah, and you read it because you just got it. There's nothing else to do, you know. Do they still do that? I don't know. I know it was awesome though. Yeah, it was freaking awesome.
SPEAKER_01There was one time you were looking forward to going to school. I gotta go to school today, they're doing the book fair.
SPEAKER_02They'd have the whole library tricked out with all the displays and all of that. I was gonna say I can't name one book I ever bought at a book fair, but I do remember one name of one. And it was called Dolls, and it was a horror book, but I was in elementary school, so it scared the shit out of me, dude. It was like, uh, well, at least I read most of it.
SPEAKER_00I got the one, uh what was the book with the um the fish that had the holographic scale? I don't know. Damn it. Someone in the comments say it. You know what I'm talking about if if you're hearing this. You know the rainbow fish, maybe? I don't know. I can't remember. But it's it's an iconic book. I guarantee you if I showed you the cover of it, you'd be like, oh.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, maybe. But yeah, it was it was just cool. Because then, you know, you got comic type shit. Not not the comic books, but comic-y type things that you could get. I don't know. I like to go.
SPEAKER_00Well, they had all the cool tricked out pens and pencils and like Barnes and Noble is just a grown-up book fair.
SPEAKER_02That's all it is. You know, you can walk through there and get the same things. Or just get a Kindle. Isn't it crazy that Barnes and Noble is like one of the last ones standing?
SPEAKER_00It is. Books a million still in business.
SPEAKER_02That's Wilmington too, right?
SPEAKER_00Not sure about that, but I know the one in New Bern is still kicking.
SPEAKER_02Bam, Books a Million. Yes. Yeah. Because people would rather just buy it on Amazon than go to the store. But I like walking through the store and like picking up a book and reading.
SPEAKER_00There is something about being in a bookstore where you're like, you're not you don't even read anything yet. You're like, I just feel like I'm in a place that's full of knowledge. I just feel smarter.
SPEAKER_02I love it though. Oh, you read the backs of the books to see if you're gonna like it or something like that. But like online, it's like scroll. Yeah, I don't like that.
SPEAKER_00You're like, there's some distinguished folks in here. Yeah. I'm a part of An elite few.
SPEAKER_02Well, because we read.
SPEAKER_00I mean, dude, it's a one day it'll all just be videos, mark my words.
SPEAKER_02Oh man. Or books on tape. And the thing is, too, like, I don't mind an audiobook, but I can't pay attention to an audiobook. It's hard for me to get into it. I have to read it. If I'm driving, I'm not I'm like, oh, look, a bridge. That's pretty cool. Oh, a plane, man. I wish I could find it.
SPEAKER_00Meanwhile, three characters have died. And then I gotta back up the whole chapter.
SPEAKER_02But it's but it's never a care, it's never a fiction, it's always nonfiction that I'm listening to. Ah.
SPEAKER_00I listened to the fiction books on audiobook that were actually really, really good.
SPEAKER_02I did try to supplement one of the Stephen King books I was reading, and I had a four-hour drive, so I tried to listen to four hours, but I couldn't. I just put it away and read the book. Um don't remember which book it was. It was uh uh The Dead Zone.
SPEAKER_00One um thing that I do have to say about audiobooks, the person who's reading it is so imperative. If their voice sucks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, imagine if they had like a lisp or something, or they couldn't say they're ours.
SPEAKER_00I'm not even gonna go into my horse stuff.
SPEAKER_02No, but like I've I've thought about doing that for my books, doing an audiobook.
SPEAKER_01You should be the person who's got a great audio, you got a great voice.
SPEAKER_02But it would be hard for because like I'm having You gotta do the voices. Well, for my nonfiction, let's say I'm I'm just reading and reading and reading. If I mess up now, it's like clip backup. So there's a lot to it. It's not just reading the thing, it's definitely editing work for sure. Editing work, like so. I've thought about doing it. I want to do it eventually.
SPEAKER_01When I was in fifth grade, we had this teacher that had she would always do the, you know, sit around and she'd do the reads, read a book and everything, and she had the best voice ever. It was the most exciting time. When she was doing the reading circle, you just loved it because her she was so animated, and she could do any of the voices, and yeah, just made the book. You got involved. You were like actually very vested. Yes. And it's hard to keep a five, you know, or an eight, nine-year-old's attention for very long. George is out.
SPEAKER_02We started a little later today, so George is he's it's it's it's quitting time. He's like, I'm done.
SPEAKER_01He's yeah, he had a hard day at the golf course. Yeah, it was hot today.
SPEAKER_02It is hot, man.
SPEAKER_01They're talking record-breaking heat this weekend for 4th of July. Believe it. So guarantee it.
SPEAKER_02I am not a fan of the super heat, but I will sit out back and have a cigar if it's 80 something. But I don't like that.
SPEAKER_01What would you rather be cold or hot?
SPEAKER_02Oh man. It kind of depends. I know, because in the winter I say hot, and the summer I say cold. I guess you can always get more warm. You can't always get more cool.
SPEAKER_01So I'd rather uncomfortable being cold.
SPEAKER_02I'd rather be cold because man, I'd layer up when I'm out there in the cold. Problem is Penny doesn't want to come out because it's cold.
SPEAKER_01My dogs hate the heat right now, man. They're just not a little bit more. Yeah, they're freaking furry, too.
SPEAKER_02Big old blankets they're wearing.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what one I'd rather. I'd think I would just take the heat to be real. Let's go jump in the water or something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you have that option. I've been to Djibouti where it was 130 degrees, and I've been to Norway where it was like below. And I'd rather be in Norway with the right gear to stay warm.
SPEAKER_01Really no right gear in the heat. In the heat.
SPEAKER_02You're just like an air conditioned rolling. And if that AC goes out, you're screwed, man.
SPEAKER_00Well, then it's like you gotta go outside because you can't be sitting in a room.
SPEAKER_02At one point, I was night crew, so like we were is you're sleeping, and then as soon, like as soon as the the power goes out, instant heat, you're just boom, awake. Everybody gets up, somebody goes and tells facilities, and then you're just sitting out front in the in the baking sun and just waiting for the for the heat box to cool back, you know, for them to come fix it in a couple hours.
SPEAKER_01I'm good as long as I can find some shade. Just being stuck out in the you know the sun when it's beating down on you.
SPEAKER_02See, now that's why that shade is pretty cool. You guys can't see it, it's off camera, but we've got now we don't right. You're not blinded by the light. The sun is not in here right now. But yeah, like you remember in the earlier episodes when it was super, super bright on us. Now the next thing we have to work on is this brightness behind us, but we might have a fix to that coming soon from American graphics. We we shall see. Jeff Baker has has uh gotten my hopes up a little on that thing now, but we'll see now. He's uh he's our guy. Oh, and I'll still I still owe him um an order of hats and stuff. So I think we just need to do it. Just pull the trigger.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think people would just buy it just off the bottom.
SPEAKER_02Well, we know a bunch of people from here that that will buy a hat at least.
SPEAKER_01Just brought one.
SPEAKER_02Uh huh.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but um I'm not trying to be rude or missing contact with work.
SPEAKER_02Oh, are you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What iPhone is that? Is that the 17?
SPEAKER_00I think it is.
SPEAKER_02So they went back down to two lenses?
SPEAKER_00Now I got the lowest tier one.
SPEAKER_02Oh. I mean, cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I still think it's crazy on how much these things little suckers cost. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, well, if you told yourself, you know, back in the 80s that someday you're gonna have a thousand dollar computer, yeah, you wouldn't even think of that. You're gonna be like, a thousand dollars. You know, it's the eighties. You tell me. Look how many things you do.
SPEAKER_01Everything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you'll be able to look up any bit of information anywhere, but all you're gonna do is scroll through and and watch people talk shit about each other on their Facebook.
SPEAKER_00Or read that's all it is. Well, two, another reason that I got the lower tier one is because I don't want the Pro Max, because you know why? Because I can't reach my damn thumb to the other side of the phone.
SPEAKER_02I want to there's a little trick for that.
SPEAKER_00You don't want to do all that. I ain't got time for all that.
SPEAKER_02That's right. Ain't nobody got time for that.
SPEAKER_00I want to keep my hand underneath the blanket under my legs while I'm snuggled up and just text with one hand.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to be like uh first world problems. First world problems. I actually had one of the old iPhones for the longest time, and then I got a new one. Uh we have a lot of uh green textures sometimes in our groups.
SPEAKER_01I still have the original iPhone. I brought it out just recently. Things like a brick. I was like, oh my god, look how small this thing is.
SPEAKER_02You remember the iPod?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Yep, still have one.
SPEAKER_02It was like a little more like a little round. Yeah. And it made that little click noise when you went around the wheel. Yep. Yeah. That was cool. And I remember the first time I ever had an MP3 player and was able to put like a ton of songs on it. I was like, look at this, man. It's like this little thing. There's 200 songs on this thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I still remember getting a Walkman once I was a kid. How exciting that was. You could just put a cassette in that sucker.
SPEAKER_02And the cassette one was great, but the damn CD was sucked, dude. No, because it would skip.
SPEAKER_00And then they made like the Sony one that had like the hand grip on it, and it's like, you can run with it. And it's like you run, and it's like, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's like having it in the car, and your CDs would skip. Yeah. But it's happened, dude. You can't like a Walkman, Walkman. That was cool.
SPEAKER_01I had a I had a uh radio that like watch. You could plug your headphones into it, and you could listen to the radio from your watch. Nice. Okay, rich guy.
SPEAKER_02I was about to say I probably had one on that. You probably had a car phone back in the 80s, too, didn't you? The bag phone. One of those big Zach Morris phones, too. That wasn't the car phone, but the brick phone might be.
SPEAKER_01I did have a bag phone in my car. You like, you know, you'd call somebody up just to say, hey, I'm in the car, but I can only talk for 30 seconds because I only paid for five minutes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it costs me $25 for this phone call. And now we could talk to people via apps that are halfway across the world. We can listen to music via any of our streaming services, and I think we take it for granted. But uh also simpler times, you know.
SPEAKER_00I kind of I think we're like too available now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, we were talking about this the other day. What if uh whatever that movie is that Frank was talking about, and all you know, we go back to the Stone Age. Well, how would we get a hold of each other? Well, you know, not the Stone Age, but let's say that we went, you know, somebody met waved a magic wand and we went back to 80s technology.
SPEAKER_00You gotta go where all the bikes are laid down yet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you're not home, somebody's calling your house and your mom answers.
SPEAKER_01Nobody has landlines in a home anymore.
SPEAKER_02That well, we say we do. We wouldn't know how to get it. We're just like, oh my, I haven't talked to my son all day. Well, he's been at work. Call his work. What are you calling this place for? You know?
SPEAKER_01He can't get phone calls at work.
SPEAKER_02We can text somebody now and I just immediately get a text back.
SPEAKER_00It's like Yeah, you almost can't even say I'm not available right now, and it's yes, you are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sorry, man. I I'll call you back.
SPEAKER_00You mean you weren't? You you did not have your phone in your pocket. Is that what I'm saying? I'm sorry, my battery died.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'll text back just so you know I'm not ignoring you, but like today I was working out and Jared was calling me, and I immediately was like working out, and he knows like I'll get back to him. But it's like every if I sit here and text him, now my music cuts out every fucking time a text comes through across, I'm like working out. So he knows he won't even say okay, he just knows what that means, and I'll I'll text him back or call him back. I called him back after that.
SPEAKER_00Well, there's also the text courtesy. Um, if someone calls you before they text you, you it you automatically assume that it's a dire emergency. It's like, why are you calling me?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I like texting better. Or if they text you like, hey man, can you talk?
SPEAKER_01Uh there's all these challenges out there that people do, you know, the no-shave November and you know, the dry January. Well, maybe we should do like a one week without cell phones. Disconnected. Disconnected for a week. Do you think you could do it? I think it would be probably harder than some of the other things that are more addictive.
SPEAKER_02You're so used to it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Right. I mean, it's the first thing you pick up when you're in the you get up in the morning, the first thing you get is your phone. Yeah, but it's a tool. You know, I mean, you're connected to work and love you, George.
SPEAKER_02What's up?
SPEAKER_00Love you, brother. Love you. See you, my friend.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's you know, it's definitely a a tool, and we're used to it.
SPEAKER_00Well, anywhere you go when you stand up, what do you do? The three-tap check, phone keys, wallet, boom. Yep.
SPEAKER_02Phone keys, wallet. That's what I always do.
SPEAKER_01Where's my phone? Where's my phone? That's the first thing you're thinking.
SPEAKER_02And then and then you got the Apple Watch. Well, we've got the Apple Watch, so you can find your phone. But you can find your phone with it. That's what I like about it. Well, also, it doesn't matter. It's pretty damn handy. Yeah, I use it mainly for my heart rate, but I got the aura ring too, which not a fan of it? I mean, it's good. I don't ever check the app though. Is that how it acts? So now it's just an app you check it out.
SPEAKER_01So now it's turned into just a ring.
SPEAKER_02Well, I do use it to see how my sleep I compare it to the Apple apps and see like if I'm sleeping, you know.
SPEAKER_01I truly think the one week challenge without a phone would be really hard. Yeah. I think so. Especially if you work through the phone, you know, if you're you know whatever. Right, like checking emails. Yeah, I it's I don't think.
SPEAKER_02I mean, George doesn't have a computer. So he he uh only Leatrice he only has his phone. You know what I mean? I mean he so I'm like dude, and then when you he shows me stuff, he's like, brother, what's this? And the words are so big that it's like you can't read it on my phone. I was like, dude, I don't know. Send it to me and I'll read it on my phone.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. It's it's difficult to be away from your phone. It is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Even minus social media, like I'm not even talking about that. I'm just talking about the utilitarian aspect of being able to check your emails, call people, communicate with people.
SPEAKER_01What's going on in the world, the news, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I try to like if I'm here by myself, I'll read a book. But I always have to be careful not to just get on the scrolling, doom scrolling, freaking write. Right.
SPEAKER_01I think your mental health would get a lot better from not getting around. Oh, it absolutely would. I think it's been proven.
SPEAKER_02I think it's it absolutely would. And then we've we've got our our attention spans can only be measured in nanoseconds. Um that's why songs are two minutes now. Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_00Which is a whole nother stupid thing.
SPEAKER_02Do you remember the eight-minute songs back in the I know an eight-minute song?
SPEAKER_00Bohemian Rhapsody. Free bird. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Stairway to heaven for longest song. That was the best song when you were a kid because you got the slow dance for that extra few minutes.
SPEAKER_00Isn't it like a cardinal sin not to play that song in like a guitar shop or something like that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's supposed to be a sin to play that song, and it's like, no way, stairway denied. He starts to play stairway to heaven. Right. It's one of those things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like one of the first things you learn as a guitar player. It's those little ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. It's a great song, though.
SPEAKER_00What would you do if you were in like guitar center and you've seen somebody start playing it?
SPEAKER_02Would you be like No, I'd be like, pfft. Because he probably learned how to play guitar like a month ago. And you're like, all right, it is. He was like rookie. No, I don't judge it. I really don't judge. Because no matter who you are, someone in there is better than you. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I've seen people in there ripping brothers.
SPEAKER_02I don't get, dude, no matter how good you are, someone's better than you. I mean, I know, yeah, me too. And sometimes I'll be the one like doing some stuff and people looking at like, don't fucking now. Watch the guy that works here walk over here and pick something. I mean, my old uh lead guitarist worked at a guitar center. I'm like, you fucking make people feel like shit all the time, don't you? I'd get fired working in there.
SPEAKER_00I would get zero work done. I know, dude. Like, you haven't sold anything in three months.
SPEAKER_02I'm testing out the new Les Paul.
SPEAKER_01Everybody keeps walking out all upset because they're ripping.
SPEAKER_00Because they can't find any they can't find anybody that works.
SPEAKER_02Oh you can just stick around the guitars, though. I'd be doing it on the drum, everything's the keys, the fucking, you know. If my damn TK's back there blame the bongos again. Yeah. Is that a tambourine? Who gave him a triangle?
SPEAKER_00Ting, ting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude. Oh, Cowbell. But you know what? We don't have one of those around here.
SPEAKER_00More like a Sam Ash.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we've got and I think that went out of business.
SPEAKER_00Oh, damn.
SPEAKER_02We uh we have one, we have Swansboro Music and Pawn, which our buddy Don owns that, which is great.
SPEAKER_01We used to, but they closed that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Woodford is another pawn shop, but they had some stuff. But Don's, I love Don's and Swansboro Music and Pawn, check them out. But uh Musicians Toy Store in Jacksonville, which you know, they got high-end stuff. Um actually they have Taylors, not Martins. They used to have Martin's when they were in the mall. They just did my they worked on my Epaphone master build, which is my gigging guitar, my gigging acoustic. I haven't been if you haven't noticed, I haven't been playing acoustic at my shows because the jack came loose and I can't reach into the hole and tighten it up. Oh, dude. But I'm also not bringing my Martin out there, you know. Sure. They get all trash. Yeah, no. So this is my gigging. I bought this just to be a gigging acoustic, and it's it's a good little acoustic. But now it's all fixed from musicians.
SPEAKER_01You do you feel like kids now these days just don't have the patience and the time to put all the effort in to become a good musician?
SPEAKER_02I I just remember when I a lot of kids do, but I do remember I feel like there were a lot more kids that were that were picking up guitar and things like that back then, but I could be wrong. I mean, I there's still the people probably my kids both play instruments, okay, but that doesn't mean everyone we're talking about. You know, I wonder what those statistics are.
SPEAKER_01I just feel like when I was a kid, everybody wanted to be in a band. It was just the thing that was like, that's what got me wanting to play the saxophone.
SPEAKER_02You know, you know when the band came around, I was in sixth grade or fifth grade, and my dad said no because I had quit the guitar in fifth grade. He was trying to teach me, and I quit because it was hurting my fingers.
SPEAKER_00Ouch.
SPEAKER_02Sixth grade, the band comes back around. I'm like, Dad, please, please, please, please, please, can I be in the band? Please. And he's like, fine. So he rented a saxophone. That saxophone I still play on stage to this day. Very nice. And uh, and I and he was like, if you stick with it, we'll see about buying it, but I'll rent it. And my his his cousin owned a music store. So he got that. I've learned how to play the sax, started after everybody else, but I got pretty good at it, and then I started the guitar again. When my little brother Jared was learning how to play guitar and he wanted to quit, and he was like, Help me tell dad. And I was like, Oh, just show me what you're learning. And then for some reason, I was like, Oh shit, he taught me that already.
SPEAKER_01And I was like, Did he get away with a little bit more by being the little brother?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a lot more. Yeah, but anyway, so I went, told my dad he was quitting, but I was like, But can you show me this thing? And then I picked it back up, and I from then on, me and my dad play guitar all the time. And then after you can play two instruments, it's like, dude, I can play anything. Now I'm in that.
SPEAKER_01Which stuff me and the oldest kid. You're usually the trailbrazer.
SPEAKER_02I'm not I'm the middle kid, though.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's even worse.
SPEAKER_02I got an older sister, brother, me, brother, sister.
SPEAKER_01Very middle. Yeah. You got get lost in the shuffle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I mean me and Jared. It's like home alone. Like we grew up together pretty much. My older brother and older sister were out of the house by the time Jared and I were like in middle school and high school, so we pretty much grew up in the same house.
SPEAKER_00I think like the younger, and this is totally speculatory, but I think the younger generation is getting it more into like music production on a computer and like DJing. Yeah, that's true. I think. I'm gonna have to go out with this guy. I guess. Again, speculating. Get to work legal. Yeah. Uh see you soon. I forgot what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_01Is music production more instant gratification?
SPEAKER_00Um, it's uh maybe, yes. It's could be said to be easier, possibly. A lot less easier. Because you want YouTube, every yes, yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_01A lot of it is broken down for you. Because once you learn the basics, you can pretty much take that for everywhere. It's not like playing the guitar where you have to learn each song and you gotta get those muscle reps in there.
SPEAKER_00And you do have to have rhythm, you do have to be able to keep time. The computer does all that for you. You could just click some stuff in, which I'm not knocking that. You still have to have skills and you still have to have the creative vision to make that, but it's not the same as being able to do one, two, three, four, one, two, and be on beat. Like, say if you're playing a guitar with a drummer or with like a click track, like a metronome. Can you like play a song on beat or are you off beat? You know what I mean? It's it's different. It's harder. I agree. I played, I probably started playing the guitar when I was like in sixth grade. I think my mom bought me a guitar and an amp. I can still play the guitar now, like not like on Lee's level, but I can play pretty much all the chords on the top of the neck of a guitar.
SPEAKER_01Like I can't go up and down the neck, but it's like in R though you have to keep tune, you have to keep it fine-tuned. Yeah, if you don't play over time, you lose a little bit of it.
SPEAKER_00And they say too, if you know like three chords, you know a thousand songs damn near. True. Because they're just in different orders and played different ways. And so there's that there's something to be said about that. There's skills involved. I mean, you might know D, G, and C, but what can you do with those, you know? Can you put them all together to make a good sound? Can you do it? You know, the hardest thing for me, what I still can't do to this day, is sing and play at the same time because that's like left brain, right brain activated. I'd be like, I don't know what to do with my hands. It's it's hard, bro. It is. I'll get leadaway in on that. I cannot do that shit. It is hard, dude.
SPEAKER_01I think you're born with general. For sure.
SPEAKER_00I believe that.
unknownI might as well get my next cigar.
SPEAKER_01Some people are musically inclined, some people just can become musically inclined because they're working at it day in and day out.
SPEAKER_00Like product of practice rather than like God-given talent. Right, right. There are some people that pick it right up. And you could probably see that if you stood two people next to each other on stage, like a guy that really just has that gift, as opposed to somebody that like practiced for four years. You could have them play maybe the same thing and be able to tell the two apart properly. Probably so one plays it more robotic and the other one has more just fluidity. Yeah. I was telling Ed that one of the hardest things that I still can't do to this day, because you've seen me play the guitar. I have some basic knowledge of playing the guitar. I can't sing and play at the same time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's that disconnect. You've got to be able to. It's like the drums. You have this has to be different than everything has to be.
SPEAKER_00You're doing like three-quarter beat over here and one fourth. So when you're using your foot, using both beams.
SPEAKER_02And I tell you what, man, even seasoned guitar players, and I'm not a lead guitarist. I'm not trying to be, you know.
SPEAKER_00You just are, but you're not.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm not a lead guitar. No, I'm a guitar. I've been playing guitar since sixth grade, and I'm 47. So um I've been playing a long time. But that doesn't make you good. Practice makes permanent. Practice doesn't make perfect. Right. Perfect practice makes perfect. But there's there's songs that even seasoned guitar players, if I'm also a singer that that I have to do some intricate thing and sing, that's freaking hard. Like Dave Matthews, difficult to do. But I play a couple Dave Matthews songs. You know who's really good at it, my son. Jackson can play the crap out of these intricate, hard, like almost lead type guitar, and then sing while he's playing it. Hell no. And then what that is, the way you learn to do it is just sing. Just sing while you're strumming and keep on doing it until it's gonna start to feel like you're gonna stop fighting yourself.
SPEAKER_00I could probably do like hot cross buns, but that's as far as it goes. Because you know how it works, obviously, uh being somebody that can sing and play the guitar, your hand stops doing the rhythm and then it just starts going with the words you're saying.
SPEAKER_02Right. And so when I was teaching Jackson, he actually picked it up really quick. But I've taught Madison too, she can play the guitar a little bit. But it's like uh, first of all, you don't go gin, gin, jin, ghen, jin, jin, jen. You do it in a rhythm. Jen, gin, jin, jun, gin, jin, gen. It's always going up and down.
SPEAKER_00It's it's hard, bruh.
SPEAKER_02But now when I play, I mean, I'm palm muting. I'm like, I'm like, dun, I can only imagine that. But it's like how you strum, and if you can hit them all with your fingers and the picks, it gives it that as it's hitting the chord. That's some acoustic magic. I that's why I love that. And so the more you do that, the more you're getting used to that.
SPEAKER_00And you have a beat almost damn near with yourself.
SPEAKER_02Start singing. Yeah. But that's what I mean. I'm I I can like not pay attention. I could sit here and have a conversation almost. That's even harder, just having a conversation, especially if you're like doing a no-flow.
SPEAKER_01You got to think of think of the conversation, you know, what I'm gonna say next, plus what I'm gonna get my hands gonna do at the same time.
SPEAKER_02And then so you and I taught myself banjo, and I'm not great. But man, that you're using these three fingers, you're rolling all the time. So you're in a room. And so sometimes I'm like, I've I'm like watching I'll video to see if I'm doing it right, and I'll see in my face, I'm like looking up at the sky, like, okay, pay attention. Don't, you know, because so I'm because I'm concentrating on so many things at once. But I do it at the shows too. When I'm playing, I'm like looking around the crowd, thinking about what's next, what how much time we have for this song.
SPEAKER_00Dude, me and my dad have talked about this before. Like to play like probably the banjo is a good uh comparison. Like to do like three notes in a row over and over. It's like playing guitar hero. Like, you know, on hard mode, you just gotta go do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do, and you're like, ah, it's getting away from me.
SPEAKER_02Like I'll show you one time. It's it's kind of cool because once you get the roll down, it starts to sound like a real, like that's a banjo song. Oh, I've heard that. Yeah, like dan, and it's just like hitting every string I'm supposed to hit now, not every time, but flow state, it's very difficult to do. But I tell you, man, uh, like we were talking about, I'll bring this back to kids playing instruments. Pick up an instrument and parents, if you're at I I always give advice like um what instrument would be good to start with. Piano. There's gonna be anybody that has, yeah, piano's great, it's fantastic, and stick with that. That's a great, like, foundational instrument to learn because then you could do a lot of other stuff. I would say the younger they are, drums. If they're if they're too tiny to push down strings, they're gonna quit. It's gonna hurt their fingers. If if the if uh you know the keys are their hands are too small to get across, it's they're gonna quit. It's not too boring.
SPEAKER_01They'll get frustrated.
SPEAKER_02But they're not gonna get frustrated with drums. They they're gonna have fun. And get an electronic kit.
SPEAKER_01Mom and dad might get frustrated with it.
SPEAKER_02No, get an electronic kit where they're wearing headphones. You won't even hear it. I have an electric kit, so you know you won't hear it. You can't put your headphones on and yeah, you'll hear the the pads getting hit and stuff. But if you teach a kid drums, get them that rhythm, and then then when they get a little bit, you know, a little bit bigger fingers, teach them guitar, teach them piano. But uh man, any instrument is good for kids. They they say that like musicians are like smarter or something like that.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think it does help your cognitive ability 100%.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, it yeah, and then with math, because you're doing fractions, you know, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, things like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right. So, you know, and you and a lot of times you're having to think of it in a split, you know, if you're sight reading or something like that, you're having to think of it like that.
SPEAKER_00That's something I would never I can't do.
SPEAKER_02Music theory.
SPEAKER_01Just being able to read music, I think, is is hard enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so imagine you talking about singing and playing at the same time. And you get rusty at it, let me tell you. My kids made fun of me when I first started playing the sacks again because we would all we were all three playing the I was on the tenor, my son was on the alto, and my daughter played the soprano, and we did the Mario's theme, and it's pretty cool. But they're laughing their butts off because I'm like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Just the way I'm looking at it. It's just like a kid learning how to play an instrument again. And then, you know, a week later I was like, all right, warmed up now. You know, but you get rusty, dude. You get rusty.
SPEAKER_01You get rusty at anything you don't do in repetition.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Flying, rusty pilots. Hey man, get your pilot's license so we can buy an airplane. Half an hour.
SPEAKER_00I'm good on that, dude. I do not want a pilot. I'd rather just fly.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to get one of I'm trying to get one of my friends to get their license so that we can split a Cessna.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say Jared, but he does already uh disclosed his hatred for flying last episode.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's hated flying since we were kids. Why I wouldn't get it. My older brother really hates flying. Well, Jared went flying with me and had a good time.
SPEAKER_00I mean As good as he can have.
SPEAKER_02He was like, yeah, I liked hanging out with you. I mean, I still hated it. I was like, yep, he's like, we could have done that on the ground. He's like, yep, I hate this because we're up at the end of the plane.
SPEAKER_01But he was nervous the whole time.
SPEAKER_02Nah, not nervous, but he just doesn't like it. We've done it since we were kids. My dad was probably so I'm talking little teeny kids. I got a picture of me with I'm just like tiny sitting on the front. I'm sitting on the ho uh the uh what do you call them the pants? I think wheel pants or whatever the cover. No idea. Anyway, that was in N1408 Quebec. That was the airplane my dad had, the Cessna 150.
SPEAKER_00Come on back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, man. I wouldn't mind having an airplane.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure a few folks might not mind. Yeah, I know, right? Minus the price tag.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, true, true. But if you get a Cessna 172, you could do a lease back to a flight school and then rent it out, and then you could just block it off whenever you want to go flying.
SPEAKER_00Is that what you would say a lot of people do?
SPEAKER_02No, I'm trying to find somebody to do that with.
SPEAKER_00But you could like go, if you were totally current right now, you could go to Beaufort and rent an airplane for the day, or what?
SPEAKER_02Even though I'm not current, I could go rent one.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_02But to get current, a smart pilot, you know, I gotta take somebody up. I'm gonna take an instructor up with me to get me current again. How long does it one time up and that's it? Or what? No, I would say three or four, but depending on how long they say a year a year away is I don't remember what it is. A year or something.
SPEAKER_00Is it like your concealed current license, you have to renew it while it's still No, you go every couple of years.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, no. You can let it, you can go nine years without flying, or however many years I just named it, and then go back and get current. But the smart to get current, you're not gonna get the flight instructor's not gonna sign you off if you're not ready. Sure. So you're gonna fly as many times as it takes. I'm I'm sure.
SPEAKER_01So there's a liability on his part.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm saying three or four, but that you know, it could be it could be more depending on now. When I went up to Beaufort, oh it was beautiful, dude. We went out to Cape Lookout, but uh he even commented, he's like, Man, you're like pretty on it. You know, you you remembered your shit. And I was like, Yeah, it doesn't mean we don't need two or three more flights.
SPEAKER_00Like I'm you know I mean, dude, good on you for saying that because there's been people that are like, I'm good now, yeah, and maybe not good. Remember how I lost my dad. I mean, I know I'm not gonna be safe to do that.
SPEAKER_02I don't think that's saying so I'll be extra.
SPEAKER_01Precaution you can take and get your license.
SPEAKER_02Right, right, right. But so uh what you do is you have to get a biannual every year, which means every two years you go up with an instructor for like two hours or something. There's like hour ground, hour of flying, just to prove that you still have the skills and you're still talking, communicating with the air traffic control and other planes and things like that correctly. And then um, then you're good, you're signed off. There's no check ride or anything.
SPEAKER_00Do you have to redo like a written test at all or never?
SPEAKER_02No, at never again. Just skills, just just the skills, and that's the easy part. Flying's the easy part. Uh, and then every 90 days, you have to have have a takeoff and landing. Um at night, it's to a full stop during the day. I think you can do three just takeoff and landings in order to have passengers. So every 90 days. So if I'm flying regularly, that counts anyway. But I just can't let 90 days go by without me having those three takeoff and land.
SPEAKER_01I mean don't you get to get updated on, I'm sure technology is changing on.
SPEAKER_02No, that's what I flew, the newest. So what when I was getting my license, these are like 1960s airplanes, and that's normal. Most flight schools, 1960s, 70s, if you're lucky, maybe. Right. Um is that considered new techniques? 50s even 50s even. I mean, no, but it's you know what I mean? It's better.
SPEAKER_00Standard.
SPEAKER_02But uh, I went up to Beaufort and they had 2020s, these were brand new, with gall glass, uh G1000s. They had the uh autopilot, they had everything, man. And it was flying a luxury. I mean, it was flying luxury. I was like, this is it's flying itself, it literally flies itself. You just put in the heading and kind of like my Tesla, right? So I uh but that was beautiful. Now, now it would take me two or three more uh of those flights to be current again because that would be all my takeoffs and landings, that would be you know getting my biannual. But here's the big brick wall. It's $200 an hour. Jesus. But that's wet, giggity. So that means let's say that that's what aircraft running time, wet, meaning that it's uh they the the they'll fill it up with fuel, you don't have to worry about it. So let's say I rent from Newburn and I take an airplane ride to Okra Coke, that's a 15-minute flight, and then a 15-minute flight back.
SPEAKER_01You only get in charge for half an hour?
SPEAKER_02That's that's an hour. Uh that's a hundred dollars, thirty minutes, thirty minutes. See what I'm saying? So it's only during the running time. So if you're flying for an hour, that's 200 bucks. If you're up for a buddy, you split it 100 bucks each.
SPEAKER_00I'll split it, I'll split it an hour.
SPEAKER_02You see what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00Like that's how far can you go on a tank of fuel?
SPEAKER_02Very, very far. For real? Yes. Damn. Uh depending on the big thing.
SPEAKER_00Could you go from here to New York in a Cessna?
SPEAKER_02Not a well, Cessna 182. You're cutting it pretty close.
SPEAKER_00But but you could go to DC, like oh yeah, big time.
SPEAKER_02Easy. I went from New Bern to Williamsburg in an hour and 15 minutes. See, that's nice. In a Cessna 172, which is a four-seater, but it's less powerful than the 182.
SPEAKER_01And what do you fly about 120, 130 miles an hour?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Depending on the plane. If you're in a couple of things, you're flying in a straight line and straight line like a crowd as the crow flies, good weather, no traffic, no stoplights, you're and you're seeing potholes. And you're seeing the sights forever, like you're just looking wherever you want to look. I have headphones. These are the Bose A20s, $1,100 headphones. Uh back when I got them. I don't know what they are now. But they're Bluetooth, so I can listen to music on my phone. And if air traffic control says something, it automatically cuts it off so I can talk to them. Yeah. Uh, I can make phone calls. I made a phone call, called Gina, and she's like, I thought you guys were going flying. I was like, I am flying, I'm in the airplane. She goes, It sounds like you're talking on a regular phone to me right now. That's badass. That's and I hear her the same through this headphone, through this headset.
SPEAKER_01You have a mic?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Well, all my headset have a mic, but uh this one's just a way better one. Is it loud in the airplane? Yeah, but that's where I have headsets for everybody.
SPEAKER_00Everybody wears headsets. If you didn't have it on, though, it'd be louder. Very loud, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And they back in the 50s, man. That's my grandpa was a pilot too. And that's that, yeah. And they had a speaker where they'd and they had a microphone where they'd yell through it and they'd listen to the speaker, and it was just Damn. Yeah. And they had ashtrays, and they'll a lot of them still do have ashtrays in them because you know they smoke everybody smokes back in the day. But I'm telling you, dude, it is fun. It's expensive, but it's fun. And there's ways to do it where, you know, especially for people who have a good heart, you can actually get your commercial license and make money with it. I I can't get my commercial license, I fly under the case.
SPEAKER_01But if I could fly to Okra Coke from in 30 minutes or whatever for $100, not saving the tank. Don't have to wait for the ferry.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_00Because look at the ferry going down like you guys.
SPEAKER_02And then we'll suppose when we flew back, when we flew back, we flew over here. We flew right over Swansboro at a thousand feet, right over my uh my house. I didn't get a good light all night.
SPEAKER_00Dude, that's pretty awesome though. Yeah. Even though I'm terrified of flying.
SPEAKER_02No, I'll take you up when I'm current again. Yeah, I'm gonna get current. I got a physical coming up, uh, my annual physical, so I'm gonna ask her to do my flight physical as well. Because for basic med, so the FAA came out with this thing called basic med, which basically says that the there's a third, a second, and a first class FAA medical. I had a third class, it's the the one you need to get your private pilot private private pilot's license. Um then I had my heart condition, which disqualified me. But there's this thing called basic med that I can fly under instead of the the that. It says that if I have a uh license to drive a you know car and I'm not you know not of any danger, I'm not on these medications. I um I don't have these three serious things, and I don't. One of them is a heart thing, but it's not my heart thing. Um and so I passed my physical, I did the class that you have to do online. Again, I don't have to ever take a test again. This is just a basic med so you understand the limitations now. I can only have five passengers now instead of like ever being able to fly anything more now. It seems like a lot. Like, who cares? I'm only ever gonna have three. You know what I mean? Uh I can I can't go on anything that goes under over 250 knots. I think it's either that or yeah, 250 knots, which is calling ass. I'm not flying anything like that, and I can't basically be a commercial pilot.
SPEAKER_01I'm not flight eight.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and I can't go above and I can't go above eighteen thousand feet. So I fly at 7,000 if that, yeah, if I'm going, you know, to Virginia. But uh yeah. So I can still fly under basic med. That's why I'm like, it's just the money thing right now, dude. It's like, what?
SPEAKER_00I'm surprised you don't have like a flight sim in your house. I do, dude.
SPEAKER_02Uh my my goggles.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I bought a PC just for just for this, and I have Microsoft Flight Simulator on it that I do PC VR, and I fly a Cessna in that.
SPEAKER_00Do you have like the yoke and stuff?
SPEAKER_02No, but I have my two. I want to get all that, but I but I but it you know, it does what I need it to do. Like if I'm doing carb heat, if I'm doing flaps or the throttle.
SPEAKER_00Flight simulator is insanity.
SPEAKER_02Depending on what you said, and I said it like it's a real plane. Simulation. I want a real plane because I know where it's supposed to be. I know what speed I'm supposed to be doing. You know, it was on Xbox, and it's hard like that. Like if I get all it's crazy. I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna do a go-around.
SPEAKER_00And I, you know, it's I downloaded it one time because it was on Xbox Game Pass for free. And I downloaded it and I turned it to the highest difficulty. I couldn't even block back the plane up to taxi. Yeah, yeah. I couldn't even get it started. I didn't know what to do. I know what to do. I'm sure you do. But imagine because you know me, I'm like, I'm gonna take it to the far as.
SPEAKER_02It's harder when it's all the buttons and shit. If you were actually in an airplane.
SPEAKER_01Um don't don't don't push that one.
SPEAKER_02So if the zombie apocalypse happened, would you be able to hop into a Cessna and start it up? I'd figure it out. Would you? No. You wouldn't. Are they chasing me right now? Yes. Oh, then no. What are they just standing there looking at you? Doesn't I just feel that it's going off? Oh, okay. You just know.
SPEAKER_00Like, how much time do I have? Yeah. If they're running chasing me down the runway, right, there is a zombie.
SPEAKER_02You got doors and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, then are they like the slow moving ones?
SPEAKER_02You started that dragging their foods and you can actually go and hit them with your prop. Although it depends on how soft their bodies are. You don't want to damage your prop. You got to fly with that.
SPEAKER_01Well, now you're propless and doing circles. Now you're just in a metal box on the ground.
SPEAKER_02Propless in San Diego. Uh no, it's propless in Seattle. Sorry. Is that a song? No, it's sleepless in Seattle. It's a movie. I do know that. I'm sitting on my wallet right on my butt bone and it hurts. Sciatica. Yeah, no, not quite that. I've had that though. It sucks. Uh yeah, dude. Get your pilot's license. You're not too old.
SPEAKER_01I'll just fly with you, share the excitement.
SPEAKER_02That'll work too. Hill, you don't have to be a pilot. We can buy a plane together and lease it back to the school and either in the city. Passive income. But the problem is you wouldn't be able to use it as much as I could.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'd just be able to walk in. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02You'd be like, Lee, can you take me up again? Oh man, I don't know, dude. I'm just like all flown out.
SPEAKER_00Right. By the time you're ready, he's like done.
SPEAKER_02It is fun though, dude. And there's like flying clubs you can join.
SPEAKER_01It's like my big charter boat every time I wanted to use it. I had to add the captain drive me around. Oh, really? Too much risk. Damn for real. Driving that thing around. I mean, I drove it a little bit, but the captain's up there in the tower are up in the crow's nest. Yeah, and you're everybody's down there having a little bit of a good old time.
SPEAKER_00You hear the music and stuff, you're like, damn, it looks pretty cool down there.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02Big old boat, right?
SPEAKER_01It's a big enough to do what it needs to do. It's a 30-footer, so we can fish in the blue water with it. I'm excited about getting it. Is it a sparfisher? Now you wouldn't take your current boat out there. Not my little one, no. It's a not a real, you know, seaworthy boat. It's more stick around here.
SPEAKER_02I want a boat like Dexter's, you know. He had those two engines on it, I think. Real nice. You know, he got out there enough to where he could dump the um you get, you know, Dexter. You've seen Dexter.
SPEAKER_01The show? Yeah. Where you can dump the bodies.
SPEAKER_02But did you ever see it?
SPEAKER_01I've no I've seen bits and pieces.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he had a badass boat, man. I was like, I mean, you know, it's Dexter's.
SPEAKER_01I don't think I got past season two.
SPEAKER_02It's a good show. I watched it all, and then I watched the one where his son was in it. Yeah, I was like, eh. And then that's it. That now they have the origins and whatever. And I'm like, why? I already know what happens to him. And then it doesn't matter what happens to him because you're, you know, you're just gonna when the money's there, you're gonna make another sequel or prequel.
SPEAKER_01Try to squeeze every diary.
SPEAKER_02You know what I do want to go see, and it's only for pure nostalgia.
SPEAKER_01Jackass?
SPEAKER_02No, I hate Jackass. No, God, I was mad when I saw that Jackass was one of the four movies playing in Emerald Isle.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, somebody at this point, like, they're old enough where someone could die if they do the wrong thing. Yeah. They're all old now.
SPEAKER_02Masters of the universe. He-Man. He-Man. Haven't you seen that there's a new He-Man?
SPEAKER_01I've seen it briefly, but haven't paid much time.
SPEAKER_02It's kind of our age, dude. Your age was still into He-Man. He-Man, dude. We all like in the 80s, He-Man was the shit.
SPEAKER_01You had to have a He-Man to be cool. Or a Transformer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Transformers 2.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02But they are all CGI movies. This one's going to be CGI too. No, you know, I'm not trying to say that. You kind of have to. Yeah. No, we filmed on Location. It's A. It's other planet.
SPEAKER_01Who's playing He-Man?
SPEAKER_02Some no name. Or he maybe he's a name for the L Jack and everything. I guess. I have to. I have only seen the preview, and the one preview I watched the other day got me excited because I they got cringer, you know.
SPEAKER_01Is Elator, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You know, Cringer who turns into Battle Cat, his Green Tiger. Yeah, dude. Uh Man at Arms. Is it out? Is Isla something?
SPEAKER_01I like Thundercats when I was a kid. I love Thundercats, dude. Love Thundercats.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that would be great. You can't make a Thundercats. You know, SNL did a Thundercats and He-Man's kit. That was pretty funny. But that's all I see now. If you ever made like a live-action Thundercats. Well, I guess I guess it'd be kind of like Avatar, you know, where it's just this different creature you're looking at. I don't know if it would work though. And then after that, they had um Silverhawks.
SPEAKER_01Don't give Hollywood an idea.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. Because then they'll hang on to it and uh rinse repeat.
SPEAKER_01Rinse repeat.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's the way to do it, man. Uh I'm not excited though about seeing the new Supergirl. I see, all right. Sexist. No, that's what I was getting to. I love Supergirl. Helen Slater.
SPEAKER_00What do you think? She's not capable.
SPEAKER_02Helen Slater was oh man, Helen Slater. And then I saw. She was great. And then and beautiful. And then I saw this one, and then nothing against her, but as soon as I saw her at the end of Superman, I was like, what? Nothing against her, just everything and all the memes that are coming out about her looking like the dude from uh We are the Millers, you know, the the kid that's she does. She looks like But it's like I know her name. Uh and I don't know, maybe she's good, maybe. But I was annoyed even that Supergirl was drunk. That annoys me. How are you gonna be oh, because she went, she likes to go to Planets with the Red Sun. Well, guess what happens as soon as you get back into the universe with the planet with the solar system with the planet with the yellow sun? You get your powers back. You shouldn't be drunk anymore. That's it's not responsible. Stupid writing, anyway. Uh no, I she's not Supergirl to me.
SPEAKER_01He's analyzed this movie.
SPEAKER_02I see that. She's not. I don't I don't see you should write a screenplay. It's a movie. Enjoy it a little bit. She's already started doing what that Snow White girl did and shit talking about.
SPEAKER_01You saw how that worked out for this. It's like, dude, what are you doing, man? I'm pretty sure your shareholders are a little lucky.
SPEAKER_02You're so lucky to be in this movie. Like, if this were again the 80s, you would not be cast. No. Um, but you know, I don't know, tastes change, I guess. Oh man, I'm gonna get shit on for that, but I don't care. Uh, but yeah, I want to see the He-Man movie. Not see I'll watch Superhero when it comes out. I will watch it. I love superhero movies. And then there's a new one, Man of Tomorrow, I guess, is the next Superman movie coming out. I don't know. I'm into those kind of superhero movies. What's gonna happen? Marvel ones are hard to follow.
SPEAKER_00Have you ever seen the map of like what you would have to watch to follow the story all in order?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00It's psycho.
SPEAKER_02It's hard. And I've seen most of them, but there's if you miss one, you're all out there. There's some I haven't seen. I don't think I've seen Winter. No, I don't think I've seen the one with uh the Falcon.
SPEAKER_00What's the what is it called? The Endgame. What is that one again? Infinity End World Infinity End Wars?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's Fender Infinity War and then Endgame. Uh yeah, Marvel Endgame.
SPEAKER_00But there's something before it. It's like Avengers. Avengers. Is that what it is? Marvel Endgame. And they're all interconnected. It's not God that it is Avengers. And they're all interconnected, right?
SPEAKER_02I was like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_00Because that's the one that like Thanos comes, right?
SPEAKER_02I think. I don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00That was actually cool. I didn't watch a lot of the I haven't watched a lot of Marvel movies, but I have seen that one and I thought that was pretty cool. Both of them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was good, but like what I don't like about Marvel is like you can die and then it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_00They'll just bring you back. They'll just bring you back. How would they make another movie if you were stayed dead? All about the money, baby. Like whenever Thanos snaps his fingers and everyone disintegrates, it's like everyone's like, no, and it's like, do you really think they're gonna do this? Is it hell no? No. This is not it. It's it for now. There's not enough money in that. Or then, like, or whenever what is the one thing that happens, like Iron Man dies or something like that?
SPEAKER_02Dude, spoiler alert.
SPEAKER_00Whatever.
SPEAKER_01Wolverine, didn't he finally kick the bucket? Yeah, I think after Logan or something. Logan? I think so. But will they bring him back?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, remember Deadpool? Of course. Did you see Deadpool 2?
SPEAKER_01I have seen two, but I haven't seen the last one. Was it the one?
SPEAKER_02That's the one. Oh.
SPEAKER_01I think there is a third one in the middle of the street. Is it the third one I'm thinking of?
SPEAKER_02Oh, Deadpool and Wolverine. Yeah. That's what it is. You haven't seen that?
SPEAKER_00No, I haven't seen that.
SPEAKER_02The multiverse. Let's just say that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So again, doesn't matter if you die in the Marvel Universe. Right.
SPEAKER_00Because they still got 60 more movies to make now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. As soon as um the Loki show came out. Which I liked. I really liked that. But they came up with the multi you know, they didn't that's not when they came up with the multiverse, but they have the time.
SPEAKER_00It was always there.
SPEAKER_02You know, the time cops or whatever they are. It's the time something. I can't think of it. I don't think of it. But anyway, it's uh they that's where they come up with and Owen Wilson's in it, it's a good show. But now it's like Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, wow. Wow. He's in the show where he's a retired golfer or whatever. Kind of has yeah. That's uh I've seen a couple of episodes of that. I can't think of the name right now, but it seemed pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Like is that like Tad Lasso where it's on Apple TV or whatever?
SPEAKER_02Uh I have not seen that, but do you have Apple TV?
SPEAKER_00I might. I don't know. I never used it.
SPEAKER_02Shrinking is pretty good on there too. Harrison Ford and Jason Siegel. That's called Shrinking, very good show.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you were telling me about that. I think we talked about it on here. And that's on Apple TV.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and there shrinks.
SPEAKER_00You don't say I do.
SPEAKER_02No, that's pretty good. But uh I watched Severance. I'm on season two. I got to the point where it's hard to watch because it's so stressful.
SPEAKER_00Oh man.
SPEAKER_02It's a good show. Very stressful. Yeah, dude. I'm like, I don't have the I just can't right now.
SPEAKER_00Just show me what happens. Too much stress in my life. Too stressful. My heart. Dude, uh, we started watching Dutton Ranch last week. Not fully caught up yet.
SPEAKER_02I tried Yellowstone again, man.
SPEAKER_00I made it like two or three episodes in, and it's like, I haven't watched, I didn't go past, I never made it to where John Dutton's not on the show anymore. I fell off before that because they split it up. It was on like uh Peacock when it first dropped. Then they shifted it over to Paramount Plus, which I was like, all right, fine. It was on peac there, yeah, exactly. Then I was like, all right, fine, you can get my five dollars, I'll get Paramount Plus, blah blah blah. Get you roped in and on like six different apps for one show. Like, dude, this is insane. How many pot hands are in the pot here? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, what's funny is everybody started getting rid of um cable and all that stuff when the streaming services came out because it made a lot of sense. And now you have to have every streaming service imaginable to it's basically every channel again. Again, first world problems. Let's let's let's just say that because you know we're spoiled. But yeah, we feel like we gotta have all of them. So you're paying more than you did when it was coming up.
SPEAKER_01And you sign up to watch the month-long episodes that it get caught up, and then you forget to renew it. And then they just auto-renew dollars every month, boom.
SPEAKER_02They're preying on you to forget and six months down the road, you're like, oh shoot, I forgot to Yeah, but I mean, I'm thankful that I have all my streaming services. Actually, well, I won't say anything about that.
SPEAKER_01I've watched Max now Angel Studios has got one homestead. That's a pretty good show.
SPEAKER_02Uh, there's also The Chosen is on that, which I love that show.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I've heard of that too.
SPEAKER_02It's about Jesus. Yes, it's a very, very good show. Um, there's a movie on there though, I think. It's called can't remember. But it's the guy that's in all those things. He's in, he's got those piercing eyes, he's got the gray hair now, but he's in um Tulsa King.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you're talking about Sylvester Stallone? No. I was gonna say his eyes aren't very good.
SPEAKER_02He's a bad guy, but he's he's he's a good guy a lot, but he's a bad guy a lot. He just he's a bad guy in this. Not helping. It doesn't matter. He plays like the devil or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_02And that's it's an angel. And he like makes somebody vanish to prove to this guy's like and then watches the person vanish. He basically moves the shift, maybe? The shift, whether they shift him into a different dimension or some shit. I don't know. It looks good, but I don't have Angel Studios.
SPEAKER_00Is that an app?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so. I watched The Chosen, I thought, on Hulu, though, maybe.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. It's tough to keep up with all of it.
SPEAKER_01It is, man.
SPEAKER_00They cross over too, though.
SPEAKER_02And so I always have to ask chat cheese.
SPEAKER_00You know, on this stream and the other half on I don't get it.
SPEAKER_02How can I stream such and such?
SPEAKER_00If you could only have one, which one would you rock with?
SPEAKER_02Right now, Max. HBO Max? That's because I got my three shows that I'm watching right now. Once I run out of those, I'm gonna be which one?
SPEAKER_00If you could only have one for the rest of time. Paramount Plus. Yeah. There's some good shows on there.
SPEAKER_02So you watch ghosts.
SPEAKER_01I have not seen ghosts.
SPEAKER_00It's pretty funny. Damn, Netflix would be up there for me.
SPEAKER_01I find it hard to I get home and fall asleep on the couch halfway through an episode. Yeah. Now these days.
SPEAKER_00The only thing about Netflix though, it's just seems like there's not that many movies on there.
SPEAKER_01A lot of B movies and stuff you don't really ever scroll, scroll.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then it's like there's not that many movies on there if you really think about it. And they advertise there's thousands. There's there's not thousands. There's thousands, but thousands you don't want to watch. And you have to be able to search for them by name. They're not all on that little scroll menu or whatever. Yeah. For sure not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then there's sometimes I'll look something up, hey, how do I stream this? And then it'll say it and I'll go on there and it's not available. So then you gotta download Tubi or you gotta get Freeboo or something, whatever. Fubo.
SPEAKER_01I bought my parents a TV because they bought a new house, and so they got we went and got a TV and we hooked it up, and you had to download the Walmart app to get even access to the TV. That's psychic. I was like, are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_00That was like on or whatever, like the orange box or whatever. It was a TV that's too smart these days too.
SPEAKER_01They obviously either Walmart owns this brand or whatever. So I thought that was a little odd.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that is odd. Yeah, they had the code. Can you at least use your phone as a remote for it?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02I guess that's cool with the Roku, you can do that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We used to do that here when the remote was broken. But that gets early too.
SPEAKER_01It had a QR code, you had to put hang your phone or take a picture of it with your phone and then download the app.
SPEAKER_02The Roku is so easy, man. It's like guest, yeah, guest. And I'm just turning the channel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're not watching that switch. There's also an appointment. Oh, it's ding, because they make some good TVs that they have to there. They're in the ed with Walmart now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_02There's an app called Tunity that I used to use at MacDaddy's. You basically tune it into the TV, and then now you're listening to that feed. Through your Bluetooth. So all the noise that's happening in the place, you've got your phone and you're just listening to it. Like you're sitting over there across the city.
SPEAKER_00That's actually cool. That's pretty much.
SPEAKER_02You know, Buffalo Wild Wing or something like that. Yeah, it's pretty tight. But uh I couldn't get it to work on this TV. Maybe it's in too old with the TV.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that one's pretty ancient. But yeah, our TV. It was like 300 bucks. That's actually a good deal. It seems like how do I get this giant TV for 300 bucks, but they want this tiny little cell phone and it costs 2,000. This one does a little bit more.
SPEAKER_00What about the uh the mark of I guess wealth or good money? You go into someone's house and that's that big ass TV with the box and it's like taking up half the room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the one that used to open it was a projector screen with the red. It had the three rings, one was yellow, one was red. Yeah, my aunt had one of those, and it's like, whoa. They're rich. Picture's terrible.
SPEAKER_00Dude, if you've seen one right now and you'd be like, that looks like shit.
SPEAKER_01I remember walking into kids' house, friends' houses, and they had a remote. You were really wealthy if you had a remote TV. You're like, damn, you don't need to be. I was a remote for the first 10 years of my life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. We had the knob TVs when I was a little little kid.
SPEAKER_01Three channels. Four if you're lucky on a clear, clear day. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was seeing this video the other day. It was super funny. It's like, you know, we've reached peak technology times whenever if you lose your uh remote for your TV, you gotta go up there and basically feel your TV up. You're like running your hand down the side of it and stuff all caressing it. See where the buttons are.
SPEAKER_02We all do that. Nobody nobody remembers where the buttons are.
SPEAKER_00Or someone's like, hey man, uh, can you see the HDMI port? And you're like, your head's pressed up against the wall because everything's like flush to the wall, you can't see. You're like, damn it.
SPEAKER_01Put one of those Apple trackers on your uh you know, your remote so you never look at it. It just fell through falls through air tagged. Yeah. Usually falls into your couch cushions.
SPEAKER_02Well, I heard I heard Penny being real quiet, right? Oh, she got your remote? And she was chewing something, boy, not a toy. I can tell when it's a toy because she at least gets up and brings it to me. Not this time. She's like, I jump up and she is chewing the shit out of my remote. Oh my god. And it's already, she's already chewed it. But I didn't catch her in the act, so it was like, no. Um shh.
SPEAKER_00You're like, no, but yeah, they they'll do they'll chew on some stuff now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they uh Dixie's gotten a uh Evans remote, so yeah, we had to buy him a universal remote so he could use a TV. Oh man. Came home one day and it wasn't.
SPEAKER_02And they're not as always they're not always as good as they're knockoffs. And I love the uh the Sony, I think it's Sony. Yeah, the Q L E D TVs, that's what I have a couple of. And the and the remotes, I love the remotes. Very simple, just like the button in the middle with a wheel around it, but not a wheel, but like right, right. Yeah, the two buttons. Simplicity.
SPEAKER_00Oh really? Yeah. It's like a it's like a literal cursor. So you can move. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_00But you can like also hit the down arrows or any one of the arrows, and then it'll go static and it'll select stuff. So you can like it's not just because that mouse gets annoying as shit. You're like, because you know, if you shake a little bit, the mouse the cursor's like Well, it's like, yeah, so like doing the Wii where you used to put the laser up to the Yeah, it's like it's basically that.
SPEAKER_02Or the VR headset. And that was hard at first, too. It's like, oh shit, how do I type when I'm pointing to a keyboard way over there or whatever, but you get faster at it. I'm like tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
SPEAKER_00Well then I figured out there's a microphone in the thing, so I could just hang and be like, hey, Yellowstone.
SPEAKER_02I love the microphone. Except I didn't what was it? There was one that when you did it, oh, the Sony remote. So you click on the microphone, it makes it red, and then you have to click on the microphone on the remote to do it. So I would always screw that up, and then it was like it would bring up a different menu. I'm like, don't have a so now I should have just typed it out because I would have been done by now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you've I'm all good, thank you. Yeah, you said the title like seven times, and it's like, dude, I should have just typed it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So then you're like feeling dumb. But it is cool that you can just sit there and talk into it, and I do that on YouTube a lot just because you know our TV in our room, it's nice because it's a smart enough TV with like new enough tech.
SPEAKER_00Like it's still a pretty older TV, but it's still in the class of it has Bluetooth, so I can sync up my earbuds to it. So if Nicole's sleeping, I just have earbuds in it and watching the TV. And it's pretty dope to watch TV with headphones on it.
SPEAKER_02I bet mine could do that because I have a newer one. Uh if it has Bluetooth, you can. Mine's another Q L E D. So I got one in the living room, one in the bedroom. But I don't ever watch it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because I'm up in the backyard watching my laptop. Yeah, but I if I'm going to bed and I'm watching TV, I'm yeah, but I'll be up watching that shit. Yeah, dude, and I'll I'll what's next? You know, put on a movie or something. So I'll eat it, I'll read a book and then that'll make me a little tired or whatever, and I'll go to bed. But um, but um, yeah, dude, these TVs nowadays they're getting bigger and cheaper. Not cheaper in quality, inexpensive.
SPEAKER_00Well, now that it's like, dude, you walk through Walmart or whatever, and the just the the standard thing is like 80 inch TVs. Like, bro, I don't have anywhere to put that.
SPEAKER_02And now that I have my Quest 3, I don't need a bigger TV. Yeah, you really don't.
SPEAKER_00Because can't you do like the scenic thing where you're in a cabin and be in a cabin I can be on a mountainside with a tent over on the that whole wall would be my TV. Have you ever fallen asleep with that shit on? No. No? I feel like if I was watching a movie on like a cozy Nah, you're not, nah. I guess it's like too much gear.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're not you'd know if you're falling asleep. I would, I don't know. But uh, yeah, I watch TV on that thing. I would do that. TV and movies, it's it's it it'll change the way you want to watch things.
SPEAKER_00Bro, so I gotta think of it whenever we get I get back. You gotta bring the damn headset up here because I want to check it out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I do, I do. No, we should get you to do the um the plank. Yeah, that's what we were saying. I know. Yeah. And we'll just video you and clip that in. Because it's yeah.
SPEAKER_00As long as I don't fall into all the equipment.
SPEAKER_02It's cool, man. It's like you really feel like you're walking on a plank. Um, but anyway, yeah, that's my little plug for the quest three. I love it. And uh how much does one of those things run you? Man, I think they're like 500 bucks now, aren't they?
SPEAKER_00Damn, so that's like a full-on game system.
SPEAKER_02It is, but it's 512 gigs, so I haven't even come close to that. My old I have two headsets. Uh the first one I bought is 128 gigs, and then like a couple months later they came out with the same price for the 512, and I bought that.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But now I have two, so my nephews are over, they can both use them and stuff. Um can you sync them up? You can. I haven't figured out how because I can't do both by myself. I need something.
SPEAKER_00I'm saying though, like if we both were wearing them, we could do the golf thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, you're supposed to be able to. So, like, if if Marchetti's at his house with his headphones and he's got the qu he's got the 3S, if he's at his house with his headphones, we can all meet on a course and play that course.
SPEAKER_00Oh, bro, that is tight.
SPEAKER_02And I have a stick that it's like this long that you put your thing in so you don't hit anything. Right. But it also gives you that weight so you feel like a club. A club and not that stupid handle. And the handle's not stupid because like I use it as guns all the time.
SPEAKER_01Did you 3D print yours?
SPEAKER_02I 3D printed my uh my paddle for table tennis, which is my favorite game on the Quest 3.
SPEAKER_00That sounds dope, dude.
SPEAKER_02It feels it almost feel like you you feel it, like it vibrates when you hit the vibration when you hit the ball. Yes, and you do the spin, it does the spin.
SPEAKER_00Um, so you can like cut it and like super accurate.
SPEAKER_02You can turn your AI part uh get whoever you're playing up to hard, like it won't let and it's hard. I'm backed away from the table and we're going to town. Can you play online? You can play online, you can play to people. You can play right here in mixed reality and have the table right here, like you'd just be standing there, but you can still see everybody here, and you're just playing this dude.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that is dope.
SPEAKER_02Or you can you know get in a place where you're not going to hit anything, and then now you're on a virtual table in a virtual room with somebody else.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you want to keep away from objects, but some but somebody goes somebody else.
SPEAKER_02But they signed in on their headset at their house, and they're in the same room, and you're like, Okay, you ready? And you're like, Okay, man, let's go. So meeting. Do you have to like throw the ball up to serve and shit? Yeah, with the with this thing, you go like this, and then you you serve.
SPEAKER_01Dude, that is nuts. I've played a bunch of tennis. It's but it's fun playing tennis.
SPEAKER_02I haven't played tennis, but I've played uh uh inside of a rink tennis, like an inside of a box tennis type deal, and I love it, dude. You have one too. I have racket sports.
SPEAKER_01I got one. I don't I'd like I haven't played with like groups where funny. It'd be damn could you play like doubles and tennis if you I don't know if you could do doubles, but it'd be really cool if you could play against like other people from a you know we get real good at it, and that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02Like table tennis is one of those things you don't have to run around a lot. Yeah, but they've got pool, they've got billiards and you got the dart thing too.
SPEAKER_00Did you have the dart board on the grand board?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the grand board. I have a grand board, and what that is, is it's it's an electronic board, you know, soft tip, and what you do is you put your iPad up there or something like that, so you can see your opponent, because it there's a video camera on your iPad that's getting you, and there's a video camera that's getting them, and and you're in a game, right? When I hit my board, it lights up, but it also lights up on their board what number I hit. So it shows them what number I hit, but it also comes up on the iPad and shows like a mark on my thing. Dang and we could talk to each other, and but we're just playing each other online. So like Rusty has one, Randy has one. We could do a tournament where it's like, all right, call Rusty, you know, you ready? And then we get on and we could play each other like that.
SPEAKER_00Dude, that's nice.
SPEAKER_02Technology, dude, and it's and it's not much different than steel tip. Once you throw, you can see that you it's you can get consistent. Yeah, big time. Because I have uh soft tip and steel tip darts.
SPEAKER_00I have a nice dart board I haven't hung yet.
SPEAKER_02I have a really nice, like the better one than this.
SPEAKER_00It's basically that one.
SPEAKER_02But it's the better one than this. I got the blade six.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what it is, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02They're all Rusty gifted it to me, so I know it's not a piece of shape. It's probably blade six. This one here, uh, you know, it's outside in the weather all the time, so we've had to replace it, but mine's in my garage, so it's not like getting too much.
SPEAKER_01We had a bunch of people over one night and we put the headset on and we were doing roller coaster rides. And it was it was more entertaining to watch the person playing. To watch the person play. I mean, they were getting off all like sick and it was I mean, you put it on and you were like people falling over.
SPEAKER_00So when you put it on, do you have to like set boundaries in your living room? Like, hey, don't let me go this far over here.
SPEAKER_02It'll automatically sit down, there's a button, the meta button, you press and hold that, and it's gonna center everything. There's a there's a menu that you can hit and it'll say boundary, and it'll ask you if you want to do a stationary boundary, which is just a circle a couple feet around you, where whether you're sitting down or whatever, or if you want to do a room scale. Now, let's say you're in a big wide open room, do a room scale because it'll give you room to move around a little bit. You still aren't gonna walk around much unless you really have a good room scale. Um, but they make games where you're going through your own house, like shooting monsters and stuff. Oh my god, but you can see your house, but you can also see like a zombie when they come in the window.
SPEAKER_00What um so is it basically like if you get out of bounds or close to an object, it'll shut the game down?
SPEAKER_02No, it'll turn red and you'll you'll just see it. You'll see the living room, you won't see the game, and then you'll get back into it. Uh so you'll move back into your spot.
SPEAKER_00I got you. That's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02Or if you feel like you're in your spot, still just press that center button again and it'll center the game back on it.
SPEAKER_00Recalibrate.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_00Dang.
SPEAKER_02The more you get used to it, the more fun it is. And I do a lot of flight simulators on it.
SPEAKER_00I'm asking for one for Christmas.
SPEAKER_02Not just my Microsoft flight simulator. I do the regular old cheesy ones that are actually badass. And like I'm flying a helicopter in one, and like it's it's hard to do, dude.
SPEAKER_01I got a little woozy on the he brought it here, and I was flying around on the helicopter. I was like, I gotta take it off for a minute.
SPEAKER_02And then when I took it home and put it back on, I was in the helicopter flying, and I was like, oh shit, we never turned off the game. And I recovered and landed. Yeah, it was cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just make sure you set your boundaries so you're not smacking somebody in the head when you're but it's like it's one of those things, man.
SPEAKER_02Uh like Markety doesn't use his out of sight, out of mind. If you keep it like somewhere where you're gonna check things out, like watch TV, you can you can do computer shit on it with a big freaking three screens if you want, and it's all and it's connected to your computer. You look down and you see your hands on your computer, so you can still use all this, but you look up and you're in space. You're in space or or wherever, and you're just relaxing and doing your work.
SPEAKER_00Imagine that being your your even if you have one monitor, you can do three screens. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_02You're adding virtual screens, dude. You can do more than three screens, but I'm saying and there's apps where you can just place that here and place that there and place that here, and now I'm looking on Wikipedia here, and now I got this website up over there, and right here is my main workflow.
SPEAKER_00And you're still in like Microsoft Word typing?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You used it to write your book, or didn't you?
SPEAKER_02No, I tried to. Uh that's AI. Back when I was doing that, yeah. I wish back when I was doing that, um, both books actually. No, the second book, because I think my first one was done before. Yeah. So back when I was trying that, the apps were still new. So I messed up and made my font all super small, so I couldn't get it. But I was like, how the fuck do I change? It's something with the revolution and a resolution, and I was trying to look it up and I was trying to figure out you know how to do that. Couldn't figure it out. Redownloaded the app like a year later, two years later. No, they made the biggest thing. Oh my god, now it's usable. So they optimized. But that's the only reason I didn't do it back then because it's so relaxing just being in there and just being like, Can you look around, see the stars?
SPEAKER_01It's pretty cool when you put it on and it you step into the world that you you choose to be in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, you can be on Mars or the Moon, you know.
SPEAKER_00Damn, I want one now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're pretty badass. Make sure and you just buy you get the games, you just buy them online. You you go to the store right there in front of your face, you're like, well, well, that looks cool. You watch a trailer, maybe. There's a lot of demos you can play. Yeah, I have a ton of game on games online. Click download. Download. And then you wait a few minutes and play it. So just put your credit card on. Just put your credit card in. Yeah, your credit card's already gonna be in it. It connects to your meta account. But it's dude, it's awesome. I love it. After having it for as long as I have, which is probably two years.
SPEAKER_01And they're getting better every time they do a download.
SPEAKER_02And that's the thing. Like that's the quest? Quest three. Yeah. The one below that's the quest three S. It just does less like less resolutions and stuff like that. I I love the Quest 3. Can't say any, you know, but I was wondering how I would feel after, you know, a little bit of time and having it. And I have two heads, two of them. So again, it's only, you know, my nephews for now are benefiting from that. But I tried to get my mom, like, here, you put this on and we're gonna play. Now you log into this. Now you should be seeing this. And she's like, I don't know what I'm looking, you know. So I can't. I like it because it's completely wireless. I can't talk her in. You know, with that part. Yeah, it's very funny. You can go out in your backyard and play, man. Probably don't ever let the sun hit these lenses on the inside. You can you can be outside as long as you got a good seal in your covered, because these ones are fine, but you don't want to have too much sun, but especially on these ones because they're they're they'll they'll get damaged by UV. Yeah, UV light. Um, and I've you know it's it's one of those things you hear about. And and if you take them somewhere, if you got a good case, always have a good case. I've got a good case for both my headsets.
SPEAKER_00Does it come with any kind of rudimentary case? It does. It comes in like a little tiny sling bag or something.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, nice little case, but um, you're gonna want to get another case because you're gonna want to get another headset to it. Like it comes with a strap.
SPEAKER_01Just get a Pelican heart of it.
SPEAKER_02I have a uh uh Bobo VR in it, and it's this robotic looking head strap. He's got a fan built into his. One of them has a fan on it, so if it's hot and I'll just turn on the fan and it's blowing wind at my head.
SPEAKER_01He's way too into this.
SPEAKER_02No, that's the new Bobo VR headset. They all come with that now. But the old one that I bought for my old headset didn't have that. But it's still a cool, it like makes it to where the it's all the weight is distributed around your head so it doesn't you don't get fatigue from wearing it. So it's not like this lunk either. Now, when you first start it, you want to take it and you know, incorrect like don't go into a full VR game thinking you're gonna be. Fine, like play for 10 minutes, give it a rest, you know, because you you'll get that. Holy shit, I'm getting queasy or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Uh, I played that it's like motion sickness, yeah.
SPEAKER_02100% Asgard, Thor, you know, Asgard's revenge or whatever the hell the return or whatever that came on the old one. And it was, I was like, okay. Now, to be fair, I was hungover when I was trying it, but it was very difficult. But it was fun, and then the next time I did it, I was like, okay, cool. Now I'm getting used to it more and more. And then when I got the second set, it came with Batman Arkham Shadows or whatever the hell it is. And that thing is badass. You're Batman. But I but the thing is, I haven't played in a long time. And what is it? Like you just see your hands, you see your hands, you can take your like batarang off and throw it. Dude. You got these hook, you got the the blades on your yeah, dude. It's it's pretty cool. And you can you got a grappling hook that you can go across. It's but the problem is I worked my way up to where I knew how to do stuff, and now I tried to play it again, and I don't remember how to do stuff, so I'm getting my ass kicked by these bad guys. So I want to like go back in the game a little bit to relearn this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like the difficulty of this level is too much.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm like, dude, and then I'm learning a little bit, like I learned how to punch, but you're really punching, but it's telling you what to do. It's like grab them like this and do that, and it but it's fun. Oh, please no. Uh but anyway.
SPEAKER_00Grab them like this and do that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Do what? Oh, yeah, no, it it just gives you the lights to to to put your hands up here and you know, pull down or whatever. Right, it's not gonna like it's locked and closed, so what do we got going on out here? Well, we only have a few minutes left. Oh, a lot of times they get the uh dog training groups together and they train their dogs, or it's one of those rescue things where you're like looking for. But does well I saw a lady up here with a German Shepherd, um, and she was in one of those pet things because then she came up with another dog a little while later, and they were just walking back and kind of teaching this dog how to go up and down the bleachers, how to walk this way and that way, turn around, do this, that, and the other thing. And it was pretty damn neat. And then she came back with another dog, and it was like something pet, you know, pet training. So I'm school. Yeah, but we were like, damn, look how good she was with her dog, and I was like, Oh, it's a pet school. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_00She chose to be professional.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. My buddy, uh, his wife had a dog training business, and when she was opening up her LLC, I gave them the best name possible. I was like, dude, better dog. Hey man, everybody wants a better dog. But here a better dog. We not because we're better than you, and we know it. We're way better.
SPEAKER_01Come to my house, I'll show you not better dogs. No, my doggie.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, worse dog. I love her. Well, I was just telling you how she was chewing up a damn remote.
SPEAKER_01Every pair of shoes I own now has been chewed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude, your shoes.
SPEAKER_01They she love she's got an anxiety thing, so like yeah, if you're outside and she's not outside with you, you're losing a pair of shoes. So that'll show them. I got hey dudes for Father's Day, just replacements from the ones she chewed up. So now you gotta like lock them up. Yeah, I don't know. But I was in these ones when my kids were younger, I had to lock up the booze, now I had to lock up the shoes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there you go. That sounds like a sort of I mean, and it's and it's like anything Penny does that's bad is my fault as a as a Yeah, you can't blame the dog. Right, like she doesn't know what she doesn't know. So in the backyard, she'll get into everything and will not listen when I call her because she's in the backyard and she's free. She doesn't have to listen. If I come out, if I come out there, she starts running and it's a game. So I put her little beep collar back on her. Now she does listen, but I'll give her a treat every time she listens. Now, even without the collar, if I'm doing the treat thing, she'll listen. But it's like, I want you to stay away from the I have that fire pit that's overgrown with weeds that she's like eating sticks because it's all dead.
SPEAKER_01She's trying to clean it out, but chewing everything.
SPEAKER_02She goes to the chicken coop, and it's like if she's trying to get to them, then she goes to the greenhouse and tries to go in and eat a plant. Like she's like, I'm tearing something up to everything. But with that beep collar, and I'm like watching a show, and then I'll be like, Oh shit, Penny, what are you doing? Sometimes she just lay.
SPEAKER_01All I gotta do is put a beeping device on my shoes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. No, I don't know. You uh bitter apple, try bitter apple. Yeah, spray some bitter apple on there.
SPEAKER_00Or take your pup to Better Dog.
SPEAKER_02Take him to Better Dog, man.
SPEAKER_00There we go. New business venture, right on it.
SPEAKER_02I think it's a catchy name, dude. Better dog.
SPEAKER_01Better dog. We have a pretty large brood of dogs between the group.
SPEAKER_02That's true.
SPEAKER_00100%.
SPEAKER_01Father's Day I had to do that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but anything you don't want get to get chewed up. And another thing my dad used to put on his amplifiers when his bulldog would chew it up, uh toothpaste on the knobs. You don't like toothpaste, no. Well, the the bulldog didn't. That doesn't mean he didn't. Penny might. I don't know. She's a weirdo.
SPEAKER_01I walk into rooms, people like, why do you smell like toothpaste and apple?
SPEAKER_02Oh, they're almost like my BO.
SPEAKER_01Just my shoes.
SPEAKER_02That's that bitter apple. Yeah. Now bitter apple was it worked sometimes, didn't work other times for me, for my dogs over the years. And then the other thing is digging. I cannot get her to stop digging. I'll catch her in the act and I'll make all this noise and get her inside. And but then she's just like, I'm gonna do it.
SPEAKER_00Can I get back out? I think the digging goes. Can I get back to my hole? DNA levels though, it seems like.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, my other female, the last one, Pen uh Phoebe, she dug, but she grew out of it. So I'm hoping Penny, and she hasn't been doing it a whole lot lately, but she's there's some craters back there now that I have to deal with. Right. And I find them every time I'm mowing the lawn like today. Good too, get you. Son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_00Better that than a rolled ankle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. But you know, and and my weed eater's still down, so I gotta figure out the fuel.
SPEAKER_01Do we need to have a working party?
SPEAKER_02It's leaking fuel. My weed eater's leaking fuel. You know, I went out by you. I went out and edged my whole entire front and then mowed the front and back. I love mowing. Um mowing is therapy. It is, I you know. I wish I had a zero turn, but I do.
SPEAKER_01I put on my noise-canceling headphones that I can mow.
SPEAKER_02Me too. I listen on my Apple AirPods, I listen to uh Time Suck, and I go out there and mow, but I can't weed eat because my thing is leaking fuel. Now I bought the hose, the little hose, you know, but I was like, I'll get to it. And then by the time I'm getting to it, it's 90 degrees outside and I'll take away.
SPEAKER_01Who wants to go out there and weat them? No. You can only weed eat in the evening or in the morning times this time of year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude. It's over for you. And I hate weed eating.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can if if you I'm fine on the mower, but the weed eater definitely is the steel breaker. Especially a fuel one.
SPEAKER_02That's heavy, dude. When I was a kid, I wanted to weed eat because I wasn't ever allowed to.
SPEAKER_01That's where I get poison ivy on my ankles from weed eating. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, uh, what I do now is I'll put my I'll put pants on to do my weed eating.
SPEAKER_01But it's 90 degrees above. Hold on.
SPEAKER_02What I usually do is put on little shorts because I'm trying to get some sun while I'm out there mowing.
SPEAKER_01He puts on his little tiny.
SPEAKER_02Nah, but when I do, yeah, my silkies. But when I do uh weed eating, uh-uh, motherfucker, because too many times I'm just so I I go in and I just I suck it up and I put those pants on, and they're thick. Those are like 5'11 pants or whatever. Yeah, they're thick. And I wear my boots and I nothing. And I have my glasses on, so like, and I'll I'll take it to the eye too. But uh giggity. But um, yeah, it's I I have to be, but it and then I'll break I'll have to change the line every single time, no matter how much I put on there. It's how big my yard is and how much I need to weed on it.
SPEAKER_01I'll tell you what my best purchase is. I bought you you've heard of Vivor, it's all over Facebook advertising and stuff. So I clicked on one of those things and it was a backpack sprayer, and it adapted like I care I have Milwaukee tool uh tools and tons of Milwaukee batteries and stuff, and I clicked on the the red Vivor backpack sprayer that you could adapt the battery to. That's awesome. And I'll tell you what, man, it is a game changer. You don't sit there and pump and get the pressure, it's just click and go. I damn that's cool. I I fertilized the whole lawn in like an hour, which was fantastic.
SPEAKER_02I need to weed and feed, man.
SPEAKER_01Weed and feed it. I weeded all the gardens. Oh, this thing was great. So more harder, I mean smarter, not harder. And I'm not advertising for the company, I'm just you know a proud uh or a satisfied customer. I'm a very satisfied customer for now.
SPEAKER_02I bought one of those sprayers from Harbor Freight, you know, and then it worked well, but then I tried to use it the other day and it had been like six months since I've tried it. Seal's gone dry and bleak.
SPEAKER_01I'm telling you, look it up if you've got they make one for DeWalt. It was like a hundred bucks, it was very affordable. It came with all kinds of attachments. They probably make one for cobalt. So they come in different colors, and the color kind of represents the the battery it is it you know it adapts to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So uh so people are brand specific, man. I I well once you No, I know, I know, for batteries and stuff, but I mean, really though, brand sp hello, uh brand specific. Um I knew that person. But anyway, like I have a DeWalt planer, a DeWalt miter saw with a DeWalt stand, um But I have a Delta table saw. I wasn't, you know, it's a good contractor's table saw. Yeah, but this is this is a great one. Ben actually picked it out for me. It's a great, it's a because I had the old craftsman crap, you know, because you're a young Marine can't afford shit. Um yeah, dude. And and I'm not brand specific, but I have a couple of DeWalt things because I like them. I have a few cobalt things because I like them. I have a Grizzly bandsaw. That thing is very nice. That's probably the nicest tool I have. It's free.
SPEAKER_01In your garage, you've got an impressive set of you know, what we're gonna do.
SPEAKER_02I got a lathe, yeah, man. I've got like a scroll. Like I if you I've got a lot of tools, a jointer and shit. But the problem is I don't have the room. Or the time. Or the time. I do have the time. I don't have the room. I don't have the room, and that's my fault. It's my fault. I don't have the room. It's the same reason I'm not playing my grand board because I have a oh you gotta have a space. I have a laser over there because I have a big laser that that Ben gave me, laser engraver.
SPEAKER_00Ah, yeah, big freaking lasers on the ball.
SPEAKER_02But all my all my tools, I have flip most of them. I have flip, I built flip top uh rollers. So my scroll saw is on one side, my sanders on the other. You know, the other one's like a router table, and then you know, something like that's why I'm excited.
SPEAKER_01My we so it takes up less space. We've been working on uh my son's 40 by 70 garage, and we just got power. He uh we got power to it today. We just put the tables in there, so he's gonna do some 3D printing and stuff, and eventually do some manufacturing out of the garage. Right on. Very excited for that next chapter. So I think eventually he wants to get so involved in it where it can become his full-time job and not some side gig. Yeah, sure. So there's definitely a lot of potential out of that shop. Oh, yeah. Yeah, and 3D printing. He's got an auto lift in there.
SPEAKER_02I mean, so especially him because he's probably good at AutoCAD and things like that.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he has a computer science degree, so he already has that coding, you know. Yeah, so he's made a bunch of stuff, but he never has the room to do it, but now he does. So that's awesome.
SPEAKER_02I I just clutter up my dining room with my stuff. I have my 3D printer in there. I used to have a cricket in there. Yeah, cricket's cool, man. I don't care what you say.
SPEAKER_01I didn't say a word. Oh, we've got all of that. Make tea we made this t-shirt with a cricket? She's got some all kinds of things. Oh, another thing. Yeah. Yep.
SPEAKER_02Some other third thing.
SPEAKER_01She just can make hats and yeah. Um I can't do all that.
SPEAKER_02I can do mugs. Now I have an epoxy thing. I've got the the mug turner. Yeah. Because I made with cigarettes.
SPEAKER_00Weren't you the one that was making everybody's stuff?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, with the rat with the I taught Rusty how to, and then he made some people some stuff, but I with all the wrappers around it. And uh, I've still got a couple of mine, but I I could do that tomorrow. I have a bag full of wrappers. I could make those like nobody.
SPEAKER_01I'm getting ready to uh I've been messing with epoxy. I've done some epoxy floors lately, and uh I'm getting a little better at it, a little better at it, and so we're getting ready to re-epoxy the store floors. Yeah, and I'm doing a really cool marveling um design. So I did some test panels and they came out fantastic. So I just the downfall is it's summertime, we're in the middle of our season, and you have to close the store for a couple of days to do it because we have to do half and half, move stuff to one side. But I'm really looking forward to like the fall. Uh kids go back to school, we'll take a week, close the shop down and get it right. Yeah, so the test panels have been really crucial to learning with the products and stuff.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, so I've seen the uh what it should look like. So I think it'll be pretty good.
SPEAKER_01My first couple were that doesn't look like once again I watch YouTube videos. I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and those it seems like those types of things though, you gotta kind of do it. Yeah. Or mess with it before you don't just be like, hey, I'm gonna do this, and then it just turns out.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to get to the floor and be like learning on the floor.
SPEAKER_02It's like I was telling you on my first house, a little 1100 square foot house. I did my own flooring all from YouTube, started in the very back corner of the house. And went by the time I got forward, I was learning all these technical. It's like an album good at this. Yeah, like you you just learn as you and same thing with my siding. I started in the very back corner of the house and did my siding all the way. It looks way better in the front of the house.
SPEAKER_00Now the front's good to go.
SPEAKER_01I'm telling you, man, there's a sense of accomplishment when you can do things yourself. I mean, you it it's not just about saving the money, it's just like you can step back and be like, I did that. I did that.
SPEAKER_02And you should be able to, you know, be self-sufficient. What if we lose the ability to call a plumber and you know they're on the other hand?
SPEAKER_01What if YouTube goes out of business? Yeah. Yeah. I'm screwed. I am screwed. But you know, to in today's world, plumbing, I I'm not taking anything anything away from the professionals, but plumbing is not hard. I mean, they've got so many shark bites and so many different things that they can make your life easier. Same with electrical. I'm a great electrician when the power's off. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. No, I don't I don't mess with that, man. I did it. No way, no how. Shocked myself too many times in the Marine Corps. No, I mean, when it comes to house stuff, I do love that I can do my own stuff, my own repairs and everything like that. But at the end of the day, do you have the time?
SPEAKER_01That's the time to do it. It's a lot easier. Time value of money is, you know, it only takes a minute to dial the phone and call somebody up to do it.
SPEAKER_02We dare.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Let's go.
SPEAKER_02You ready? Just go. Let's do some takeaways. TK.
SPEAKER_00TK hanging out on a Tuesday. Good vibes, good rolling conversation with the two bros, Ed and Lee. Good cigar. Love that iced coffee with the cigar. That's a really good go-to when I'm not having a beer, you know. I like that. And it was nice outside. Gotten to see the shade used in uh application for the first time. That baby works good. Absurd, sure does. And I'm uh ready to try the Oculus The Quest.
SPEAKER_02MetaQuest III.
SPEAKER_00The MetaQuest III. Is that the competitor brand, the Oculus?
SPEAKER_02Oculus is what it used to be.
SPEAKER_00Okay, yeah, I'm ready to try the MetaQuest 3. Thanks for having me. Amen.
SPEAKER_01It appreciate you guys having me on. It's always a good time. Chatting with good friends. You know, topics were uh fluid today. Uh yeah. Bounced around a little bit, uh, technology and this and that. So uh I appreciate the you know the opportunity to be on.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, and thank you for coming down here. Yeah, man. It being a weekday, uh it's hit or miss whether we're gonna be uh packed here or or or have two people. So Ed was like, you need me on? I was like, hey, only Rusty's here and he's leaving.
SPEAKER_03Come on, come on.
SPEAKER_02But uh yeah, I had fun. Thank you both uh for that. It was a good day, and uh I'm gonna have to edit this episode, so I'm not looking forward to that. Or produce this episode. Um, yeah, plenty of time, and again, we're gonna try with that hot uh challenge for the next one.
SPEAKER_01Until then, I'm looking forward to the highlights of that.
SPEAKER_02Until then, I'm Lee. TK out. This is the Hot Ashes Podcast.
