Parentified child, Ann-Marie Ferguson speaks on parentifying or caring for herself and her younger sisters from age five, whilst often going hungry as her parents suffered under the influence of severe drug addictions, mental illness and abuse. 

The Ministry for Children, now Oranga Tamariki were aware of the environment in which Ann-Marie and her sisters were in having recorded notes of red flags, within the home yet Ann-Marie says her and her siblings were failed by the New Zealand state to be uplifted in time.
