Lindsey's Success Story: How Neurotherapy Turned Self-Talk Into Self-Trust

Dr. Heather Putney Episode 10

Lindsey's Success Story

What if the tools you already practice suddenly worked faster and felt easier to access? That’s the shift Lindsey experienced when neurotherapy helped quiet the inner critic and re-tune her nervous system from constant threat to calm, focused control. We sit down with her and unpack the path from recurring depressive dips and relentless self-talk to steady ground—plus the surprising bodily sensations that signaled change, like a warm “power wash” for the brain and an abrupt slide into rest-and-digest.

Together we explore the structure and impact of a one-week intensive—two neurotherapy sessions a day, guided by a team who demystified every step. Lindsey explains why the first major change was the moment she could tell her inner spiral “not worth it” and mean it. She talks candidly about cost, scheduling, and how to judge value by durability. We dig into how neurotherapy integrates with talk therapy, medication, and supplements, turning knowledge into access and effort into ease.

The conversation leads to a life goal many will recognize: becoming a parent from a place of stability. Lindsey describes moving through winter with more resilience, choosing to conceive, and experiencing postpartum that felt manageable and appropriately contextual. Not every benefit can be proven from a single story, but the theme is clear: when the brain stops working against you, everything else starts to flow. If you’re navigating brain fog, burnout, anxiety, or persistent rumination, this story offers a grounded look at how neurotherapy can accelerate healing and help you feel like yourself again.

SPEAKER_01:

Lindsay did not know what to expect when she started neurotherapy, but what unfolded was a transformation she never saw coming. Welcome everyone. I'm Julie Schwenzer, co-host and producer in the studio with one of Dr. Heather Putney's patients, Lindsay. Hey, glad to be here. Well, we're glad to have you. So today we're diving into your success story. Thank you again. Will you walk us through your journey?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Neurotherapy was incredibly effective for me. I had been doing the internal work for years and years. I'd been on and off of medication as needed. And neurotherapy was able to just unlock things in a very specific way. So the different interventions I'd been learning through therapy, I'd been practicing, I'd been reading up on, started working so much quicker. And they were so easy to access. It was such a difference.

SPEAKER_01:

And what do you think life was like before you started neurotherapy with Dr. Heather?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, every few years I would have a pretty low dip into depression. Uh there's a lot of self-loathing, super negative self-talk. And as I've learned more about trauma, I realize I was actively making things worse and really stewing on things. And it took years to just get out of the stewing, let alone make progress past that.

SPEAKER_01:

And then what was the catalyst to make you decide to seek help from Dr. Putney and her team?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I my partner was wondering if we could start backing off of medications and seeing if we could tackle things in other ways. We were getting really into supplements, we're getting more into holistic treatments, and talk therapy was incredible. Um, but supplements weren't cutting it, and medication was more of a last resort thing, and we were looking into neurotherapy, and I found Heather.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, that's wonderful. And was there a moment during the treatment with Dr. Heather when you realized things were, you know, starting to really shift for you?

SPEAKER_02:

I had a week intensive. So I was being utilized with training. So I was answering a lot of questions. There were other folks in the room really learning a lot about stuff. So we were trying to get as much neurotherapy in that week as possible. So I was getting two treatments a day for five days straight. And about the end of that week, I started into the negative self-talk as I was literally walking into the office and thought, no, we're not gonna do that. That's not worth it. And that was so different, just that immediate shut off. Normally it would take so long of me trying to get the voices to stop and trying to get the self-hatred to just back off a little bit. And instead, I was like, well, that's a useless way to spend my time. And it stopped.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, that's amazing. Congratulations. Um Thank you. And how did the process feel for you like during the treatment? Were there any parts of it that really surprised you or you didn't expect?

SPEAKER_02:

I don't think so. The team was so hands-on with explaining things and answering questions and letting me know what things would be like. Um actually, it may have been some of the sensations. Um, I've really focused on interoception, like feeling what's going on inside of your body. And so since I am far more aware of that, it was wild to feel physically some of those changes that were happening. So at one point it felt like my brain was getting power washed almost. And not in like a harsh way, but like, you know, when you're in a good warm shower with like a strong, it was just that felt amazing. It felt like I was scrubbed squeaky clean. Um, and a different day when my fight or flight response was being dulled down a little bit because it was just so on. Sorry for the cat interruption. No worry, we we love animals, so your cat's very nice, very cute. Um, my fight or flight response was being like slowly shut down a little bit into rest and digest. And that transition was so sudden for me. It felt like I was just like suddenly like on a beach somewhere a little bit, and it was a little harder to think through my work day. So knowing that would be helpful going into things, but it was just a sudden relaxation that was just marvelous.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, that's wonderful. And and with your schedule too, I'm just gonna throw in this question. Was it was it easy to fit in these treatments and and make it, you know, work for you and what you needed to get done during the weeks?

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, I have a very flexible schedule so that it may not work as effectively for every single person, um, but they were very willing to work with me.

SPEAKER_01:

And a last question for you if someone listening is struggling with similar issues, what would you want them to know about your experience?

SPEAKER_02:

It is an expensive start, but if these results last and they seem to be, it is an absolute life changer. I did not have any significant trauma and it changed my life completely. If I had any PTSD, if I had any traumatic brain injuries, this would be a lifeline. This would be one of the few things I think could cut through that so swiftly and so well.

SPEAKER_01:

How do you think this treatment process will help you with long-term goals that you have in your life?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I mean, since I was a child, I wanted to be a mother. It's a very, very large goal of mine that's influenced so many of my decisions. And when I was at my lowest, I came to a realization that I was not an environment to bring a child into. And that would not be fair to them. And so for my whole mental health journey, I was trying to be stable enough that one, I wouldn't be a nuisance or harm to those who loved me, but also that maybe someday I could be well enough to have a child and feel like that was a responsible decision. So for a while there it would not have been. Uh my self-harm was terrible. I was lashing out at people around me and myself. And that just that's not conducive to raising a child. Um, so with hard work medication therapy, every time I dipped into that depression, it was a little better than the last time. And while in one of the rougher, well, in my most recent low, I went to Neuro and I could feel myself being dragged out of it in the middle of winter, which is the worst time for me. Um and I ended up conceiving while on Neuro because we came to the conclusion that we were ready, that I was ready and that we were ready as a couple as well. And my postpartum or my pregnancy mood swings first off were like totally contextual. Like they made absolute sense in proportion to what was going on. Like I was miserable because I was nauseous, I was exhausted. Like it my mood made sense for what was happening. And my postpartum was phenomenal. Like I was weepy, of course, and there were hard times. But from what I know about others' postpartums, mine was swimmingly easy. And I don't know the science on this, but supposedly a mother's demeanor during pregnancy and her stress level can impact the child's personality and their demeanor. And I have a calmest baby, he's so easy to calm down and soothe. He's a good sleeper, he's so smiley. And again, I don't know the science on that. That might just be me, but like I've I've reached my biggest goal because of neurotherapy. And I don't know if I would have been able to do that without this.

SPEAKER_01:

I really appreciate you sharing your inspiring transformation. And that's something great to share because uh there's a lot of women who I think can relate to you on this specific topic for sure.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I hope you yeah, no, thank you. I hope you have a wonderful day, and thank you again. You too, Julie. Take care.
