Your body is already doing its best to protect you, but protection can start to feel like bracing, gripping, and pushing through. We slow everything down with a guided meditation called “Becoming the River,” a soothing practice designed for stress relief, finding your flow, and reconnecting with a felt sense of ease.

Welcome And Safety Note

SPEAKER_01

Hello and welcome back. This is Katie Robinson, and today I would like to share a guided meditation. This practice is something that I used to use a lot. And today, during a session with a client, I was reminded of this practice, and it inspired me to share it with all of you. As always, please practice this in a safe place, not while you're driving or operating heavy machinery.

Settle In With Breath

SPEAKER_01

Find a comfortable place where you can relax and let go. We are going to step into the flow with this guided meditation called Becoming the River. As you settle in, just notice whatever is holding your body. Maybe the couch or your bed, the floor. Just notice that you can let go because your body is supported. Take a deep breath in through your nose and let your belly fill up, your lungs fill up. And then exhale out of your mouth. Again, a long, slow, deep breath. Letting your belly become a part of this, allowing it to expand and then release. Drop your shoulders down away from your ears. Soften your tongue and your jaw. Relax your eyelids. Again, take a slow breath in and a long, easy breath out. There's nothing you need to fix, nothing you need to force. For these next few moments, your only invitation is to experience movement. Inner movement. This is a practice to flow and let go. Beautiful. Allow your legs to relax. The big muscles in your thighs to soften and just melt a little bit more toward the earth.

Visualize The Living River

SPEAKER_01

Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a beautiful living river. The water is clear and the current is steady. It's not rushing and it's not stagnant. It simply knows how to flow. Noticing the temperature. It's just so beautiful. Can hear birds chirping. Just hear and feel the life all around you. Beautiful. Keep your breath flowing. The sun warms your skin and the air is fresh. Take a deep breath in. As you exhale, you look downstream and notice that you are facing the same direction as the current.

Step Into Flow Through Feet

SPEAKER_01

Step your feet into the cool water. Feel it swirl around your toes. And notice the gentle pull of the current moving forward. You don't have to create the movement. The river is already moving. Simply let your feet remember what flow feels like. Beautiful. Feel, sense, imagine. Be there with the river. Feel the current moving through your toes, the arches of your feet, your heels, and your ankles. If you notice any tightness, simply acknowledge it. You don't need to do anything. You don't need to push it away. The water already knows how to move. Take another step and allow the water to reach your calves. Feel the current wrapping around every muscle. Every place you've been holding, every place that you've been bracing is gently invited to soften. Feel the water as it flows gently forward.

Softening Legs And Joints

SPEAKER_01

Another step deeper into the beautiful river. The water now reaches your knees. Feel the river flowing through your joints. And imagine that every place that has felt rigid, every place that has resisted change, becomes a little more fluid. Softening and letting go. It's just flowing with a beautiful river. Keep your breath flowing. Just allowing yourself to relax even more. Let the river carry life through you. You don't have to do anything but allow.

Hips And Lower Back Release

SPEAKER_01

The water reaches your thighs, your hips, and your pelvis. Feel the sacred center of your body held by the current. Yes, allow the water to move through your hips, through your lower back. Ah, feel that softening in the lower back. Through your womb. Through every place that has carried tension, protection, and old stories. Nothing is being ripped away. Everything in you is simply remembering how to move again. How to flow. How to let go. Easily and effortlessly. Forward movement. Grace and ease. Ah, take another breath. And another step deeper into the river.

Belly And Organs Find Rhythm

SPEAKER_01

The water rises to your waist, to your abdomen, and through your beautiful, supportive, loving organs. All of the organs in your body, your liver, your kidneys, your belly. Every cell begins to remember its natural rhythm. Effortlessly you flow and you receive. You release and renew.

Heart And Lungs Unclench

SPEAKER_01

Take another slow step. The water reaches your chest and you feel it moving through your heart. Notice any places around your heart that have become guarded or heavy or tired. The river doesn't ask your heart to open, it simply keeps flowing. Eventually, even the tightest places in your body. Remember they belong to the movement. Feel the current flowing through your lungs, and notice how every inhale arrives effortlessly. Every exhale continues downstream, flowing with a gorgeous river. Maybe even less tense. Your body recognizes that nothing has to be held.

Shoulders Arms And Gripping Let Go

SPEAKER_01

As you step in a little deeper, the water reaches your shoulders. Feel the current moving through everything that you've carried. All the responsibilities and expectations, the pressure. The water slides beneath them all. You can imagine each burden becoming lighter as the river moves forward. Feel the current travel through your arms and elbows, your wrists and hands, all the way through each one of your fingertips. Anything that you've been gripping begins to loosen as the river carries movement where your body has forgotten.

Underwater Breathing And Thoughts Release

SPEAKER_01

Your chin and your mouth, your nose and your eyes until you are completely beneath the surface. And then something wonderful happens. You realize you can breathe here. The water is here to support you. Allow all the thoughts that you've been carrying to flow out and into the river. Easily and effortlessly releasing the spinning, the worries, the what ifs, any fear. It just flows right out and down the river. Releasing more resistance, allowing more flow. Notice the river flowing gently through your head, softening your jaw, your cheeks, flowing through your ears and your eyes, and your forehead. Even the spaces behind your eyes begin to soften. You begin to remember movement. There is space. Moving with it. Notice how every cell seems just a little more open, a little more spacious and alive.

Flow Affirmations And Floating

SPEAKER_01

You can silently repeat, my body remembers how to flow. Life moves through me with ease. I release the need to force. What is ready to move moves. What is ready to soften softens. What is ready to flow flows. Spend a few quiet moments simply floating with this current. Feel the river continue doing what rivers have always done, moving life forward.

Return To Shore And Close

SPEAKER_01

When you feel complete, notice yourself rising back toward the surface. Your head emerges into the warm sunlight, and you take a deep, refreshing breath of fresh air. Slowly coming out, little by little, you walk gently back toward the riverbank. With every step, you notice that the feeling of flow remains inside of you. You remember it was never something the river gave you. The river simply reminded your body of what it already knew. Take a deep breath in and exhale. Feel your body. Notice your heartbeat. Feel that quiet movement within you. Beautiful. And you're coming back to your body, back to the present moment, keeping this movement, this flow with you. You can gently wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, notice the space that you started this meditation in. Whatever's holding your body up, maybe even noticing the smells or the sounds in your space. Again, wiggling your fingers and toes. And when you feel ready, slowly open your eyes. You're going to carry this current with you into the rest of your day.
