"Where everything is up for discussion"

SPEAKER_02

What's up, y'all?

SPEAKER_01

It's your girl Black Genesis here. Podcast 1001 is in the building with your girl, Jania. You say my girlfriend, but it's okay. What's your stage name? Do you even know my stage name? It's not really a stage name, but people just be calling me different shit. Like like they call me G. That's like the main thing. Okay. But people that just know me from like Instagram, they call me Yanni because you know my name is backwards on there. So they were like, Yanni. And I'm like, But you don't have a set stage name. No, only for like my music, Carneliana, but like Oh yeah. But like even Oh my god, I forgot that you sung. Everybody does that one song you sent me one time. I don't even know. Oh my god, I forgot about that. It was so good. I don't know how you forgot. I literally sang for you. Was it something about pink panties? Something about pink. Yes! I'm remembering! Yeah, girl. Pink panties. Even though I don't have any pants. I don't have any pink ones, but. What kind of panties you got on today? Uh I have some savage fancy black little lacy number on the around the rim and then cotton at the bottom. Cause keep you coochie with a breeze. Okay, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

She gotta ear out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Cause if she gets caught up, you will be caught up. Not even that, just y'all, y'all be trial and error with the silk and shit and this velcro under your crotch and be sweating and getting BB. Yeah. Anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So um introduce yourself and tell us about your journey. I wanted to talk specifically about being a being a big girl in the industry.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well, first of all, Jania. G, you know, carnalie if you're nasty. That's me. And um my dance journey, honestly, I've been dancing all my life, like unconsciously. Like from Oh, that's not you being deep. No, I'm saying she came out the room like, no, not like that, but like you know how you just do shit as a kid and you're like, oh wait, you didn't expect when you got older that you was gonna be like on that shit. On that shit for real. Because I literally was just a girl eating chips and dip in front of the screen watching hip hop Harry. Or like my dad bought me rise, and one day he came in the room and I was full of baby oil crumping in front of the screen. Like, you know, I've always loved that. I'm so serious, he won't tell you. He was like, I'll never forget opening that door, and you was just sitting there with the sports bra on, and you were just glistening. I was like, is she sweating? And I was like, No, it's baby oil, they got bad. Because I found out that they put baby oil on on the movie to make them look tiny like that, and I wanted to be a part of the movie. No baby oil on you got served. No, well, rise, they did.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, they showed it. That's what I was watching. They showed I was shout out to T T that nigga was crazy. It was the other one, baby eyes.

SPEAKER_01

But we we cannot talk about rise without talking about Miss Prissy, the queen. I know that's right. Anyway, I know that's right. But yeah, so from that, and then I actually did take dance classes. Like I took ballet, I took jazz, tap, I did all of that, but I never knew. Like it was like a profession. I was just doing this shit because it was fun. So, what type of dance do you specialize in? Like, what's your go-to? So, for me, I would say I'm a freestyler for sure. That's like what I do. Like, every all the videos that you see on my Instagram are not choreographed. It's just from my soul. But um, you know, hip hop, jazz, I could do anything. Honestly, I'm a visual learner, and whatever I say I could do, I could do it. I'm not technically trained like everybody else who's been like, yeah, 12 years I've been doing this shit. Like, no, I'm just in the field for real. I just threw myself in. If you've been dancing, so starting from the baby oil. Okay, okay, girl. Because I definitely was gonna say, like, in the scene, about eight years now, like going to playground and going to movement and like going to dance studios. Because for a long time I didn't know if I belonged in those spaces because I didn't see girls our size, you know? Yeah, so like I will watch the shit on YouTube and I'm like, this is fire. Like, I love this, reenacting shit in the room, and I'm like, I'm capable of doing this. Yeah, but I was like, I don't see us, yeah. So I'm what am I going for? Yeah, like and then it was one day, watched one video, Brooklyn J video, and who is now my homegirl, Charlie. Shout out to Charlie. Shout out to Charlie. I seen her in one of the videos and she had a solo, and she was a big girl like me. And I was like, Oh, a song. Yeah. Let me sign up.

SPEAKER_00

Let me sign up. Crazy to see your confidence evolve because I've known you for some time. And back in the day when I was hosting Little Vibe, you I used to always be like, okay, you dancing tonight.

SPEAKER_01

He was like, No, I ain't dancing. Well, to be fair, I didn't think that was the vibe there. Yeah, I guess it's a little vibe and like everybody's doing different shit. But I was like, what are they? They gonna be like, this bitch. Who this bitch on touring. They trying to boom cat. We over here listening to rappers and shit. They're talking about riding dirty and you know, sniffing coke on the side or whatever, and all of a sudden, I'm no, it didn't work. Yeah. So I wasn't necessarily shy, but I just didn't see that was like the platform for that. That's why I just sang there sometimes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I remember that. Yeah. Okay, um, when you first started noticing how your body was perceived in dance when you first got on the scene, did you you know, I'm gonna be honest.

SPEAKER_01

So as a kid, uh, you know, people be like, You've been bullied? But like, yeah, I was bullied, you know. You were bullied? Yeah, I was bullied. I was a cool bitch, you know, but people just people just figured out a way, you know. And you know, the main thing is, oh, she's a fat bitch, or oh, that dude is talking to her because uh she got, you know, money, or she got this or that. And it was just like I never talked about anybody. I always was just in my own lane and I mind my business. But like once I got older, I realized like it was just certain shit that I had on me and in me. Yeah. That some people just didn't have then. Yeah. And I didn't have enough confidence at the time to realize and like stun on niggas, but like they fucking put the wrong one. Yeah, put the wrong one under heat. So like now I'm just like here and I'm like blossomed into like who I've always been. It's just, you know. Yeah, man. For all you bitches out there that was bullying Jane, they'll say they wasn't. Yeah, I mean, girls always do that. No, I'm telling you. I because I told into their face to this day, like, you really gonna act like Oh, as an adult? Like, yes, because people now they be like, oh, buddy buddy with me, or like pretending like nothing ever happened, and they're just like, Oh, well, you know what you did in high school. And I'm like, what did I do, babe? Nothing. They're like, Oh, you were messy. Oh, I was messy because you was talking shit about one of my friends to me, and I went and told the bitch. I'm not, I'm I mean, if that's messy, fine. Like, I'm not a fake bitch. You if you're talking shit about somebody I give a fuck about more than you, I'm gonna go say something. Yeah, for sure. So don't tell me nothing. I promise. Like, I can keep a secret. I got so many people's secrets that I don't even fuck with. Still in the bin, but you know, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Fuck you, bitches though. Um what stereotypes have you had to confront as a plus size dancer?

SPEAKER_01

Uh, you know, it doesn't happen out loud, but you can just see it. Uh when I step in the room, obviously, still to this day, it's only a couple of us in there. One or two. Uh, it's getting better, like more people are like falling in because it we got a lot of representation, you know, trying to trickle in. Of course, shout out to Amari Monster and Lizzie and Amanda. And you know, all my plus size dancers are really putting on for us, but I I I definitely know that I'm not taking as seriously as others. Yeah. And that's only because, like, oh, she could dance, but like there's still stereotypes in dance where you have to be a certain size to do things, or they want a certain look on stage and you just don't fit that look because the artists may be smaller, and then like the other dancers are smaller. It's like, oh, if we throw her in there, she's just like, you know, the random Oreo cookie in a chocolate shit bag, you know?

SPEAKER_00

So it's crazy how most people, the stereotype with bigger dancers are they can't move like the smaller dancers. Yeah. But that's been debunked.

SPEAKER_01

It's definitely debunked, and also like I firsthand being in class and just like watching, and I'm like, you're literally 85 pounds. Why are you more out of breath than me? Okay, like, okay, yeah, I kid you not. Like, I'm sitting here like just chilling, and y'all and you just ate like a salad and like a power protein bar before this shit, and you just did hot yoga, but yeah, you know, but that's the each own. This off the script. Do the skinny bitches pussies be folking in the let me tell I just want to because I have a theory. Okay, let me grab that dairy first. People talk about big girls and all that.

SPEAKER_00

Baby, big some I the biggest bitches I know are the cleanest bitches I know.

unknown

The cleanest.

SPEAKER_00

I am the cleanest bitch I know. I'm not the biggest, but the big bitches I know are the cleanest bitches I know. The cleanest. They smell good bitches. They'll be them smaller bitches. So I'm just thinking, like, okay, if you in class with the skinny girls and they dancing, are you like, uh-uh, a little miss?

SPEAKER_01

Girl, I kid you not. The first time I ever took a dance class, I had to just, you know, catch my Holy Ghost. Because you just get a waft of it. You don't you don't get a chance to think about it. You don't get a chance to brace yourself. If they walk past, it's just and then don't let your mouth be open.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I've literally had a girl in class, I'm not gonna say who it is, obviously, but I've had a girl tell me, uh you take showers every day. We we don't do that. Was she white? She was. Oh, okay. But she said, she said, in my family, we don't do that. We just do it once a week. And I was That's why you funking up the dance room, Becky. And I was like, What in my head, I'm like, why did you just openly admit that? I don't even know how this conversation started. Popping your coochie in front of the mirror. Hitting your J Bug. My problem is y'all talk about people wearing natural deodorant. I wear natural deodorant. But I've never stunned.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like no one has ever smelled me. They say they be the funkiest. Y'all be using aluminum and still smelling like I don't understand. What are you what are you doing? Yeah. What are you doing? What is the diet? Don't ask about my diet.

SPEAKER_00

Shut the f it has a lot to do with diet. Yes, we all know. But I mean it has a lot to do with are you washing your ass?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. The oogie boogie man be coming out of some people's pores. I don't I don't know. Somebody told me they only use dude wipes for everything.

SPEAKER_00

That's crazy. I couldn't, I that's crazy. I couldn't be a woman. No, a a dude.

SPEAKER_01

And and and I feel like some niggas. Not all niggas. I don't know who made dude wipes. I don't want to be sponsored. A dude. But I guess so. A wipe. But they made an excuse for people to think they could just clean up with those. Right, right, right. Everything.

SPEAKER_00

Um, have you ever been told your body didn't fit the mold for dance and how did you handle that?

SPEAKER_01

You had anybody come out to you and was like, ah, we don't think you're gonna do this because you're big. No, they'll never do that. They don't they don't want to catch a case. Yeah. But I'm pretty sure by the amount of jobs that I've applied to and never heard back, I'm pretty sure they said, fuck no.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Are you sure about that?

SPEAKER_00

You know? What do you think that it's probably because that you freestyle and some people think freestylers, like because I know that that's probably like a thing. Maybe people think, oh, freestylers don't know how to do choreo.

SPEAKER_01

Um, no, and that's only because a lot of the things I apply for, they don't always ask for videos. Sometimes they just ask for a headshot, and like you ask certain answer certain questions, and then like you send like a what we call um uh I can't think of what the technical name is for the video, but it's just like a a self-tape. Okay. That's what it is. You just want to see your personality and all that stuff. So and my personality is great, so I know that's not what it is. I just think it's just thousands of people applying for the same job, and if you get lucky, then amen, hallelujah. You know, yeah. I don't think it's always about the body, especially like now it's kind of dying down a little bit, but it's still very much a thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um what challenges have you faced in the professional or training environments when you go to train for these jobs that you do get? Um, what's like the biggest thing to where you're like, I I'm having a hard time overcoming this, or so before or now, and and you know, still sometimes I think about it.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just like But there was a point where I had like a mentor and um mentoring didn't happen. Okay. It was Is it somebody we know? Is it like somebody in the industry? Is it it's it's definitely someone around town. Okay. But you know, we're not gonna say any names because we're professional and there's no need for all of that because once upon a time uh that was my nigga, so it's just like I'm not ever gonna disrespect somebody that like really that really was my friend. You feel me? But you know, when you let other people dictate how you feel about somebody without going to the source, yeah, uh, I can't respect that. Right. Because I'm going to the source. I'm not about to just believe what everybody else is saying to me, especially when you know that person may have a separate issue with that person and they're trying to spill it over into the village, right? Even though they was the person in the wrong for the situation. But we ain't gonna go there because you know who I'm talking to.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think he followed me anymore. I think I know who you're talking about.

SPEAKER_01

I'm pretty sure I know you're you you might you might not give the fuck up. Yeah, but you know, so but I did have moments where like people said they would help me, and then they like kind of breadcrumbed me. Like they'll give me like validation that I felt like I needed, even though honestly I just needed to validate myself. Right, but I was like seeking validation from those people that I idolized before I even got into the scene. And then once I was getting it, it was like, okay, I'm satisfied for now, but I'm sitting there thinking about it. I'm like, damn, why are these people booking this? And why is this happening? And like we know the same people, and why is this person picking them over me when they know me personally?

SPEAKER_00

It's a it's a it's a uh I don't want to say a popularity contest, um, but it really do be about okay, followers. Are they yeah, but yes, it'd be about followers.

SPEAKER_01

Are they closer to them than they are to you? Like they're not oh they're not literally all about followers, it's literally all about who's being seen and who will get you seen. I'm telling you, it's very transactional. Oh, that sucks. It's very transactional. It's not a lot of genuinity that comes through, it's very far in between. And when you do find it, it's like the most amazing thing. But yeah, it's like people.

SPEAKER_00

Because if a person's good at what they do, it doesn't if you have the platform, yeah, right? And so if I have the platform and I say, hey, come dance, yeah, you know, but you don't have the platform that I have. But if you're good, then you're gonna gain followers and then it just I don't want you to do that though.

SPEAKER_01

Because there's a there's a lot of people that want you to stay exactly where you're at because they can see the potential of you surpassing them. That is so true, Jania. So when they see the potential of you surpassing them or being in the same field as them, and they know they might have to compete with you at some point, which is not a competition. There's plenty of room for everyone, plenty of money for everyone that they're stealing from us. Yeah. And all these taxes? Yeah. But you know, so but I'm still solid through all the bullshit. Like I'm not I'm not gonna conform to all of that. I'm still gonna be mean.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like from the last time I saw you to now, there's a different type of that you didn't have before. I think you're really coming into your and I like it. I'm pointing it out because I like it. And this is gonna take you far, especially in the dance community, because they're not gonna be able to play in your face. You can't do it. They're not gonna be able to play in your face.

SPEAKER_01

And that's that's exactly why I'm here and who I am now. Yeah. Because I'm the person that has gotten their self through shit. I'm one of the I'm one of those people that, yeah, I might have friends around me or people around me that give a fuck about me, but I still like keep shit to myself. I've always been that way, and I work through it on my own, and then I'll come back out and be like, What's up, y'all? Yeah. I'm back. What's your song? I'm a Leo. A Leo? Yeah. Really? Yeah. All this time here, you know. I didn't know that. You know, it's crazy. A lot of people say I get Virgo. A lot of people say I give Virgo or, you know, Aries or Oh, you don't give Aries, baby. Somebody asked me if I was an Aries the other day, and I was like, are you sure about that?

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I get along with them, but you know, they're interesting. No, I like a Leo. I like a Leo.

SPEAKER_00

I like how confident Leos are. I like that they And Leos have a lot of love in their heart. Them July ones though. Are you not a July Leo?

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

You're August Leo.

SPEAKER_01

Um, yes, August 6th. I'm August 6th. Okay. But them July ones, they be on the show.

SPEAKER_00

They need help. That's an everybody sign, child, because I'm a June cancer.

SPEAKER_01

But them July cancers, girl, my little sister's a July cancer. She's she's something else. Yeah. It's like she's little me, but she's got intense emotions. Like, like she, like she's a crash out. Yeah, yeah. I was like, damn, are you actually a little baby? Crash out. How much younger is she? She is 15 or about yeah, about to be 15. Are y'all close?

unknown

That's my girl.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. She literally is little me. People be like, are you sure? Ask my mom, are you sure you had her? Like they look just alike. Are you sure you didn't say a weird shit?

SPEAKER_00

It's just you and your sister? It's just you and your sister.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for the longest I was the only child. I'm still an only child for my dad. But yeah, for the longest time it was just me, and then all of a sudden my mom decides to tell me on the freeway that she's pregnant. Not on the freeway. Yeah, and I'm just looking out the window, ignoring her because uh there's no way you just did this to me. Shut the f this late in my life. What happened when I was asking for it and actually wanted it? Now I'm an only child, I got my own shit. I'm I I'm pretty much an adult here. Why am I gonna have to deal with this? I have the babysit, but you know, I love her. I love her down. Um do you think people underestimate or oversexualize bigger bodies? And how does that show up for you? Girl. Yes. It's crazy. I was just watching a podcast while I was getting my hair done with my mom today. And they were talking about how when you're bigger, people don't realize that people put these stigmas on you. Like they see you with a man, especially if he's fine. Oh, yeah. If they see you with a man and he finding like, oh, that bitch is paying for the day. Oh, yeah. Oh, she's paying for him to be around. Oh, he's only with her because she got some money, or you know, just it's always that. It's never, oh, what a what a nice couple. Yeah, not ever it's oh, that bitch is feeding that nigga honey buns at night. Like, no, and giving him her tax money, right? Like, no, actually. Like he loves it. It's another way, right? He loves it here, but what's the problem is these niggas are scared to admit that. They actually don't it's crazy, they don't like that they like big women. Yeah. And they mama fattest foot.

SPEAKER_00

Like your mom, your mama's in the kitchen with grandma's arm, and you talking shit about me's arm.

SPEAKER_01

And you love her down. Yes, and I understand that's your mom, but it's like, think it think of it as such. I am a woman as much as your mother. Yeah, for sure. With extra meat that could get you right. But instead, yeah, you want to get wrong and you want to deal with the crash house and the bitches that slash your tires and and you know, come pull up to your ring camera and snatch it off and come fuck you up. I'm not doing all of that. Right, right. I'm busy, okay. I know that's right, Jania. I'm busy. Um are you seeing somebody right now? Nail hair been paid, take me somewhere. Negative somebody, is he in there? Negative. Is that by choice? Um it's by choice and not by choice. Let me tell you why. I am a lover girl at heart. I really am. But you know, because I'm such a nice, sweet person, it gets taken advantage of a lot. And I'm trying to dial it back in a way where I don't have to turn into like a bitch. I can just authentically be myself and just not be scared to like continually try love. But these niggas are something else. Yeah. Because I'll be minding my black. Ass business. And then they come and hit the corner. Yeah. And come in my space and interrupt my piece and make it seem like, oh, they really about to make it do what it do. And then when it gets real, they disappear.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it's just like, stop coming over here fucking with me. And you knew you weren't ready. Are you fucking them? No. No. And you know, that's the thing. I'm not an easy target either. So that'd be irritating them too. Yeah, right, right.

SPEAKER_00

It's like, oh, she she not she not gonna just Yeah. Yeah. Oh, okay. She ain't one of those fat bitches, right?

SPEAKER_01

No, I am I am not, babe. It it doesn't take one meal to give me to do what it did. Okay. And what's crazy is they don't even offer the meal. You gotta tell them. You gotta tell them. Oh, you gotta tell them. You gotta tell them, like, hello, you gotta take me out first. Like, what you mean you just want me to come over and Netflix and chill? Why are you 38? Yeah. Asking me to Netflix and chill. Baby, you be messing with them that old? Babe, that's not that old. Let me tell you something. I keep hitting this mic because I'm in it. Let me tell you something. I'll be trying. Because here, the thing is they've been saying, oh, the Yans is where it's at. I'm not going down there. I'm scared. No, I'm scared. I'm cool. Yeah. But you know, if I can go up, that works. But they equally is dumb. Yeah. It's actually driving me insane. Yeah. Like, come on now. I don't have a child, but y'all be having children and be sending me multiple S's in the back of every single word. And don't know how to ask me on a date. Right. You don't know how to hold a conversation. You when you do invite me somewhere, is to a dusty ass studio that looks like it hasn't been not a studio. That looks like it hasn't been lived in. Don't go to the studios or studioed in in years. Dust everywhere. I'm jumping around thinking I'm gonna see a critter. Like I'm What type of man do you like? Like, okay, I was just about to say, are we talking looks? Because I'm not a straight looks person, but if we doing an in a perfect world situation. In a perfect world, what do you look like? What he got going on? Okay, beggars can't be chillers, but you feel me. But you feel me. I love me a chocolate man. Period. I love me a chocolate man. But you know, brown work. Brown works. Just not light skinned. They think they're cuter than you. Um tall is great, but you know, as long as you're taller than me, it works. I just you can't be I can't be eye to eye, cheek to cheek with you. That's just too much. You're my brother. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Um shut up!

SPEAKER_01

You're my sibling. You're my cousin. Like, you know, you can't do that. I love nice teeth, but if you do got a little crookedness to it, you know, I can accept it if it's cute. Yeah. But it can't be like the beautiful ding-a-ding and in my face. They can't be gangbanging in your mouth. No, like it can't do that. But if you got a little chip tool, you know, if you got a little kid, not the side shit. I don't want the whole four all four sides gone. That's crazy. Cause then I'm gonna think your breath stink off ripped. Um because them missing holes don't be taken care of. Yeah, they don't be doing it. Um, yes, but I need I just want somebody actually loyal. Niggas are not loyal at all. And you know, loyal, honest, niggas are scared to be honest, and I feel like that's partly some women's fault because they ask for honesty, and then when they get the honesty, they crash out on these niggas. And I really want it. Like, please tell me so I can decide if I want to deal with your stupid shit or not. Right. Because if I deal with your stupid shit, that means I fuck with you for real. Yeah, yeah. You know, like people niggas don't realize that. If we deal with your bullshit, we really fuck with you. We love we love you and your dirty drawers. I'm not gonna sniff them, but I love your draws. Yeah. Um so yeah, I but I've yet to find somebody that just really like apply pressure and keep it there. They always just pretend, but they just want to fuck. Yeah. They just want to fuck. And I'm not here for that because you get too old for that. And even when I was younger, I never just threw it around. Like, I can't do it. I have to feel something, like stimulate my brain. Like, damn, y'all just be talking like it, and an addie to me. I nothing. I don't learn shit. Yeah, no, no stimulation. And that 38, nigga, you better be teaching me something.

SPEAKER_00

And I can't believe you fucking with 38 year olds.

SPEAKER_01

I I ain't fuck with nothing because it expired. It expired after that, after that link up. That's the first link up. That's how we link it up. Yeah. You 38. You don't want to take me to a bar or something? I don't even drink like that, but I'll have a drink with you. Yeah, I'll drink Jack and Coke with you, nigga. I mean, damn, a little wing. A little carrot stick. Yeah, you can take it to Chili's bar. I like Chili's. You know, I mean, I ain't been to Chili's in a while, but you know, I'll I'll fake it.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

I'll fake it. I'll get a little fry. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

A little triple different. Little chip and sauce.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um what does self-love look like for you? Uh man, self-love is what what I do every day, honestly. I wake up, I thank God that I'm here and got breath in my lungs, and that I got another chance at life, and I thank him for the blessings that's on his way, not just the ones that's happening. And then once I get in the bathroom, I get in the mirror, I be like, hey girl, you look good today. Like, I've talked to myself. I love that hair that you got going on. I typically don't like the shave sides on women. But the way you still be letting your hair like as if all the fucking hair is done, just down. I like that. Excuse me. I like that. Excuse me. I think I probably can't tell. Oh, yeah, it's all the way around, man. This bitch whole head is shaved. She got braided at the top. I'm a rock star. But the way you just let it down, I like that. Because usually people with hairstyles like that keep it up. Like, keep that part up. Yeah, I don't need to advertise. Do you like do you what made you cut your hair like that? Okay, so not way back when, but you know, a few years ago, my hair was a little thinner than what it is now. Like, so my mom got that gangster grip. She's a professional hairstylist. She wasn't playing in my head or nothing like that, y'all. Yeah. It's just she got that gangster grip. She grips it all. And when she gripped my shit in the front, it just couldn't withstand it. It's just, it just wasn't enough going on. So some of it came out a little bit. I wasn't edgeless, but a little piece of me was like, baby.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Hi. Yeah. It's not here.

SPEAKER_01

So I just decided, I was like, you know what, fuck it. Let's just let's just cut it. And you know, I will never shave my whole head. I don't think I have the head for that, but I shaved the sides, and then once I did that, I was like, shit, fuck it. I always wanted to undercut. Let me just do the back. It's a little high up, but it looks good. I love it. And it's a little spot now, too. A nigga rub on it. I'll be like, woo, I see what y'all feel now. Oh my god. I see what y'all feel now. That's why they like us to rotate scar. Okay. Have you had to unlearn negative beliefs about your body? Uh definitely. But you know, it's crazy. Like, as much as it's been negative stigmas about like fat girls and big girls, I never really like I didn't know. Oh, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. I just kind of never gave a fuck. And I I give like a lot of credit to my parents. Like, they just made sure I knew I was that girl like all the time. Like, and my dad's like a heavy guy. He's he's 6'2, standing up, and he's a big guy, but he's big and he got muscle. It's not just flabby shit, you know. And then, you know, my mom is regular. She's a bad bitch. And they just always shout out to mama. Yeah, shout out to Shonda. Shout out to the Shonda! Shout out to Big Head and motherfucking. Yeah, they just always made sure like I knew who I was. They knew I had struggles. I told them people talk shit about me. And they just my dad always just straight up fuck him. Yeah. Like, that's what my mouth is how it is now. Fuck him. Sound just like him too. Fuck him. And he always they've always said, say what you want to say. Like so, because they always want to know how I was feeling. Yeah. Like just for real. So if I if I said somebody was messing with school, yeah, somebody would fuck with me. They was doing it, this, this, it. Okay, got it. Yeah. You know? So that's how, you know, I never really had to unlearn anything negative until like maybe I got older and I would like see certain shit. And I would just be like, that's just weird for people to like believe or say and like make people feel like shit because they have extra weight. Or I don't know, because they like to eat snacks and shit. I don't know. Because if one of you skinny hoes eats a few snacks, I mean, it'll be over for you too. It'll be over for you, ma'am. I mean, you just got a little more discipline. Oh, also, let's talk about how y'all just got the jeans, too. Because Yeah. Mama skinny, grandma skinny, grandma skinny. Some of us just don't have the jeans, babe. Some of us didn't ask for this. We just came out and it said, let there be thick.

SPEAKER_00

So God damn. True. Very much true. Very true. Shit.

unknown

Shit.

SPEAKER_00

Um, how do you maintain confidence in spaces that may not always be inclusive?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I mean, shit. I don't I don't even know how to explain. It's just, I'm just always myself. And if you don't fuck with me, then like you need to either tell me to go or like I'm gonna excuse myself. Because when I'm uncomfortable, my I'm like an energy person. And it I feel it before I even walk in the room, or like I could feel somebody else's energy before it even comes to me. I'm like, I'm not fucking with you. You got some ammonia. Yeah, yeah. Like, whoa, I saw the I know for real. I've literally seen the devil walk past a few people and I'm like, oh yeah, he got you. Yeah. Not me though. Yeah. This aura over here, you ain't finna come aura farm me, babe, because this shit is hot. I can't I'm not selling it. Y'all hurt Okay? I mean, they know that's why they're here, right? You know?

SPEAKER_00

Um You said that your your parents were like supportive and stuff. Do you like they know like how how do they feel about like all that you've accomplished? So you just recently did Lizzo's video. Um shout out to Lizzo. Don't make me laugh, yeah. Um I wanna know how that came to be. I wanna know how that came to be. Honestly. The other question I was asking was, yeah, how do like did they see that? How do they feel about that? Are they like, you know how some of our parents, when I started performing back in the day, and then I started like getting calls to come and perform, and I was af I started getting some money, my people just felt like, ooh, she on. Like she, and you know, you know, I wasn't even on. You know what I mean? Like they be thinking you more like. Well, we never feel like we're on, right? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

No, honestly, so throughout like my childhood, I didn't like hear it a lot of the I'm proud of you and stuff like that. But you know, you could feel it. Yeah. And like I feel like my mom was the more vocal one when it came to the the proud of you stuff. My dad was just more like, you know what it is. Yeah, because I'm always root, I'm always hyping you up and shit. You just you just should know. Yeah, even though it's nice to hear it, yeah. I I know what it is with him. I know he's proud and like but this Lizzo shit that happened, it just kind of fell in my lap, bro. I'm not even gonna lie to you. I didn't apply for anything. Okay. I got hit up on Instagram, or not even on Instagram, through Instagram, through email by someone named Beebo Thomas. Um, and she just that means they were watching you. Crazy watching you, crazy, right? So that's content actually gets you somewhere. That I mean, they really mean it when they say Instagram is your resume. Like they're not really looking at paper resumes like that anymore. They're literally asking for even when you apply, what's your Instagram? What's your social TikTok? So especially if you got that following, it's a rap for you. Yeah, but yeah, so she emailed me and she let me know about the opportunity, and she said that it was like a lineup of girls, and like I would have to wait and you know, see. So, you know, my friends that have agents and stuff, they always tell me out of sight, out of mind, just apply for shit and just don't think about it. Yeah, you can't get it. Yeah, yeah. So I once they said that I was like, okay, cool, sent them my information, and then I just left it alone. And then I found out that my friends were in the running too, so I was like, oh my god, imagine we all gonna be on this job together. I was just so hyped, like you know, a few days went by, a week or so, and I just forgot about it. And then my friend was like, I didn't get picked, or something of along the lines of that, like they said they didn't, you know, choose me. And I was like, okay, and then I got a weird feeling in my stomach. I was like, wait, if she didn't get it, yeah, and if she didn't get it, yeah, I don't know who the other bitches is, but yeah, so I checked my email. Oh my god, nigga. I was like, no way. They were like, Are you available on these days? Yeah, uh, we need your measurements done, like just all the things, and I was like, wait, so does this mean I'm confirmed? And they said, We're not all the way confirmed, but it most likely yes. I'm like, Oh, you're edging me! Yeah, so but then you know, after doing all the things, they were like, Yeah, you're officially confirmed, and I lost my shit. Because this is like this is one of the biggest fucking things I've done. Like, yes, I did like a year, like one of my first things was like with Fresh Empire. Not a lot of people know about that, but one of my first ever jobs coming into the dancing was for Fresh Empire, they're no longer a thing anymore. But they used to be doing the tobacco-free commercials and like, you know, trying to get people to stop doing tobacco. Okay. And then after that, I did Savage Fenty shoot. Yeah, I remember that. I remember we did that. But the only thing it was like like just a TikTok thing, so it didn't seem as big to people, but for me it was. Yeah, I was like, I love fucking reality. I do too. I was like, it's just getting me closer to be next to this bitch. But the best bra I ever had in my life was a Savage Fenty bra. Hello, got one on right now. Hello, she knows what she's doing with the bigger. She knows what she's doing. Okay, because not everybody got the size and the comfort. Yeah. She got the size and the comfort.

SPEAKER_00

Like her lace bras are comfortable. That's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_01

I don't feel her wires at all. Yeah, I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know what she did for sure. Sorcery.

SPEAKER_01

And it ain't that expensive either. Nope. Especially if you got a membership tool, use them credits. Mm-hmm. Because I'm using my credits. I need to use them right now. Shout out to Ree. Shout out to Ri Re. But um, yes. And then so that happened. I've done like, I call myself Hood Famous because I've done like a few music videos, quite a few of them, just for the homies and like, you know, under what they call underrated and like, you know, not popping yet rappers, but they popping me. Right, right, right. So, yeah, my nigga Airplane James and Skinny Kenny, like niggas who really fuck with me. Like, oh, shout out to Jayne. Shout out to Gyanefucking Jade County Creative Era. Right. Come out on May 9th to barbecue, nigga. But anyway, we're what? Yeah. The barbecue at the Yard LA. It's gonna go up. It always goes up every summer. They have them all summer. The DJ lineup is crazy. Uh, from 7 to 1, I believe. Yeah, it's a time we be in the backyard turn. What day is that? That that's a Saturday.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, baby, I'm gonna be with them kids. Oh, it's okay. It's okay. We're gonna get you outside. Chad, I miss it. We got do you really? No, I like being at home on my children. I'm just put my kids in my house.

SPEAKER_01

I love being at home with that man and them children. I was about to say, I feel like that's the best thing that ever happened to you. Because when we were hanging out, you always said you wanted family. You was like, I want kids. I want a family. I just want a nice man who could just get it right. And you got lucky. Well, not even lucky. You got blessed with it. Hallelujah. And not just one, but two children. Okay. She said thank you to my man. Because then he be he be he be doing it right. I seen it in person. He be doing her right. I love them. I mean, it was to the point I said, he got a cousin.

SPEAKER_00

We got a lot of cousins, actually. You know them southern men. They know you're right. Janita needs to go to the south. That's what I hear.

SPEAKER_01

You need to go to the south. But the niggas are oh yeah, they're gay. But in the south? But but some but some southern women have told me they bullshit too out there. That's the thing. So you know how we're from here?

SPEAKER_00

We're from the we're from here, we're from Cali. So niggas that we meet out here, we're like, ugh, they ain't shit. But then when go somewhere else. Yeah. Spectacular. Give me 17 of them. Right. So I think the women who are in the south complaining about southern niggas are just used to that type of nigga because that's what they've been around. And you know, they come out here and get them a you know, a California nigga or East Coast nigga. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But us, we belong down south. Because that's where the niggas, they that's where they treat you good in the hood. I'm scared. They couldn't, I'm scared. And they rub on your booty. Did you see spring break? I'm very scared. I don't even want to touch Houston. I don't want nobody to give me a glass of water or nothing. What happened in Houston? Girl, you didn't hear about spring break out there, and you didn't see all them videos of girls putting their coochie in people's faces and they they licking coochie at the day parties out in the public and in the air, and then people coming back with several diseases. Oh, that's the problem. Coming back with the diseases. Coming back with the disease. You want to look a little cooch every now and again. Okay, because your beard is. No, but they do that at the party. They do it out in the open. Out in the open on the bar, doing all this. Like, what is happening? Okay.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, my ass because you're going to the doctor and then you're coming back and your my chart has exploded. Right, right. Not the my chart. Right. No, because how do you have syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, all of it? Are you coming back with all of it? And they was posted on social media? Yes. Because that's people's problem. They post everything. Yeah, no, don't go to Houston then. You gotta go to the Land. I'm scared. I'm scared of Houston. I'm scared of Atlanta. Don't go to Atlanta!

SPEAKER_00

Don't go to LA. I'm gonna run, skip, jump, and you turn away from Atlanta. You gotta go to like Arkansas. You gotta go to like Tennessee.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna post Mississippi. Speaking of Tennessee, shout out to Darius, my friend and my engineer. Because I always tell him I feel like we belong together. He's from Tennessee. Bitch, are we about to are we are we about to pitch this right now? I love when a woman knows she wants and tells the nigga, hey, I know you don't know this right now. But you're mine. Girl, girl. Because when I first met him, he had a girlfriend. I don't do that. I don't remember. I don't remember. I'm rap comes. I'm rap homes. And she had a child too. I was like, But it's not his. Okay, so you don't have kids. Nope. Nope, he don't. He's a clean slate. Okay, you know. Is he 38? How is he? That's a good question. I think 30. 30-something. Okay. I think 30-something. Either way, doesn't matter. He knows what's up. Yeah. That's my guy. I was just talking to him a few minutes ago. Love, Darius. Darius, do you want this coochie or not?

SPEAKER_00

Darius! You seen that, uh, yes.

SPEAKER_01

And she was like, Darius.

SPEAKER_00

Darius, do you want her or not? Stop it. Stop it. Okay. Stop it. Um wait, we got off track. Okay, so you went and did the Lizzo thing. Was Lizzo not on it? Okay, yes. Back to Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So back to Lizzo. Okay, so after everything occurred, after I got confirmed, Scream, Cry threw up, did all that. Um thank God. Um, I um I had to go and get some fittings done, did that. Okay, so day of the shoot, first day was fitting, and I had to learn choreo. I mind you're just my first time on like a set set. Yeah, yeah. And like learning choreo, I was like, okay, I know how to do choreo, that's easy. But the type, I was like, was the type gonna be? So shout out to Dina Thompson. Okay, she was a choreographer on the project. She literally was the best person I could have ever met. Her and Diana, her assistant, they were the best. I literally learned what three dances in two, three hours. Yeah. I couldn't like I was so proud of myself. I was like, what kind of sorcery is that shit?

SPEAKER_00

I'm told you that you were you when you're in your in your element, you can do it, Jania. When you're in your element, you can do it.

SPEAKER_01

Dude, it's insane what you could do when you just lock in and like actually love this shit. I I couldn't believe. Like, she one of the things she told me, she was like, your wow, your dedication to the craft and making sure that everybody's vision came to life was so inspiring to see because people do not give a shit about things like that. Yeah, I was so on it. Like, I was just so like, I want what Tanner, shout out Tanner, he's a director. Uh I wanted Tanner's vision to really come to life, and I didn't want to fuck it up. And I just I'm very like hard on myself and I'm very much overthink. So I was just like on myself all day. And they're like, girl, you got it, you look great. Like, don't worry about it. We're proud of you. And I was just like, fuck. Like, this is the best fucking cast of people ever. And they were just like so nice. They took care of me. Like, they literally was like, You are our queen. I was like, oh my god, stop. But they were just the sweetest people. Shout out to everybody that was on the team. Lizzo was really nice. I ain't had no problems, so don't shade me, y'all. Um, but no, she was great. And um We love Lizzo. You know, yeah, she's she's cool. Yeah. I love that she's um she's thugging it out, and she's really about to show you motherfuckers like, okay, y'all wanna play with me? Fine. I'm about to just do whatever I'm fucking wanna do.

SPEAKER_00

Her ass just be out all the time. I'm sorry, but I love that.

SPEAKER_01

And you know that's because of you, everybody else doesn't like that. And you know why? It's because she's a big girl. Do you think it's because of that? Uh no, I only said that because, like, they say shit about like sexy red too. And they say shit about like, I like sexy red's ass out.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just the only girl that don't care what a bitch do, as long as she's happy and she getting her money and she feeling good about herself. You know, bigger girls and smaller girls sometimes deal with body image issues and you know what I mean, body dysmorphia is a huge thing. Sometimes, sometimes to really get into you and to love on you, and sometimes they look like showing showing skin because I'm so sorry, but like it's different when you have clothes on and you think you look great. That's great. But when you get naked and you're at home, do you still think you look great? And some of these bitches be like, yeah, I think Lizzo don't give a fuck. She posts her body naked, and I'm sorry, I like it because when the skinnier bitches do it, they don't need that an eye.

SPEAKER_01

And it's fantastic. It's fantastic. And it's fashionable. Put it on fat it on OnlyFans, I'll pay for it.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? But let a big bitch put her thighs out. Oh, blasphemy! Now she shouldn't have had her ass out at that game, though. Remember, she was out at the basketball game.

SPEAKER_01

I think she just wanted everybody to see she had basketballs too. Wait, what's the clock? Yeah. It's is U8. And I'm I'm gonna tell everybody that while I'm on here. Duran even said it too on an interview. This I skipped the video. I This is playing with cum.

unknown

Okay?

SPEAKER_01

This is playing with cum. So what's the this is the correct way. And I'm not the middle face. And I've always done it this way because I watched Legendary and I go to ballroom and I go to the balls, and I love the gaze down. This is in sign language, this is eight, because you ate that. You're fucking right! Mm-hmm. So that's the correct way. But the gays are teaching us. Yeah, because you know they got a movement. What the fuck is we doing this for? So people just started doing this shit. I don't know. I don't know who started the epidemic, but uh, yeah. Playing with com is that's what he looked like! Duran is funny as fuck. I live Duran. Shout out to Duran, can't wait to see him on April 29th at the Blue Note. Um what advice would you give to young plus ice dancers? My young girls, as who I do it for for real. My young girls. Not you're a rapper. No, never, never a rapper. No, but for real, I really I really do it for the youth, and I really do it for us. And do it for the youth, them. You stupid. And and I do it for us for real, because there's big girls that are representing, but they're also like, it's nothing wrong with it, but like they're losing weight and they're not big girls anymore. Right.

SPEAKER_00

And so the problem is they're still trying to hold the big girl title. Bitch, you're not in the category no more. I'm about to say, like, baby, great. Baby, you look fantastic, but you can't talk about it no more.

SPEAKER_01

Not big, you will always be big inside. Yes. Like you like, no, for real. Like, they always say, like, you can lose as much. You can always be big inside is crazy. No, because look, I'm trying to tell you, because I've known so many people that have lost a lot of weight, and they're like, you still will always feel fat in some way. Like you'll you'll always tell yourself like you're not skinny enough. Wow. And it's just like, yeah, you'll always be like a bigger girl inside, but you look good. Like you in a different form right now, baby. So like just slide to the side and let the actual you know representation finish it off. You know, you started it up. We give you we give you your flowers, and they like just fuck you because you got smaller, right? Right, right.

SPEAKER_00

But it's like, but you're not in that category now.

SPEAKER_01

Now you're making them think that that's big and that's not big. Talk about it. It's not big, talk about it, and it'd be blowing me because then they see us or they see somebody bigger than me, and they're like, ooh, you want to fuck this is Samuel! Like facts, facts, and that's not what it is. No, it's actually big. Yeah, like why do you think people are making sizes going up to 6X? Right. Because there's 6X badges out here, yeah. 6X bad bitches out here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So what I have to say for the younger girls that are trying to come into the industry, make sure that you stay true to yourself, you love yourself, right? Make sure that you know yourself before you step into these rooms because there are so many people that will try to tell you exactly who you are, and you should already know who you are. So no one can form you into what they want you to be. Because there's a lot of people who want to keep you here, yeah, and you deserve to be up here. Yeah. And even further than that, the stratosphere. Yeah. So yes, that's what I have to say. Genia, this was fun. I absolutely love your personality. I absolutely love where you're going.

SPEAKER_00

I feel in my spirit that those people that you worked with for a little sting, they might be calling you back for something else. Sometimes all it takes is one foot into the door, and if you had a good experience with them, and if you were, you know, on your shit and you let and made a lasting impression, they'll keep, you know, utilizing you. And so I hope that happens for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um and I can't wait to see what else you got in store for us.

SPEAKER_01

Um I can't wait to keep pulling the clip. I got so much shit in the clip, I can't wait, y'all. Y'all don't even know. I got more content, more videos, more bookings because they're coming. I feel them in my bones and my spirit. And I got some shit cooking that y'all don't know about yet, but it's coming. Uh yeah. And I can't wait. And soon, soon, very soon, you're gonna see me on my DJ journey. I promise y'all that.

SPEAKER_00

You wanna DJ?

SPEAKER_01

Girl.

SPEAKER_00

I can see that.

SPEAKER_01

Girl, I can see that. Girl, I make a banging ass playlist. Too much. I'm very into music. I am music, and like these people just these people just buying equipment and just throwing shit together and like making bread.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So imagine somebody who really loves music, really musically inclined, and really actually listens and gives a fuck about what the people want. Do you have any equipment yet? I don't. And the reason why I haven't bought the equipment is just because just taking that jump. I'm just I've always how much does the equipment cost? Like, is it expensive? Uh, no, so like uh just the the board itself is like three something. That's nothing. The problem is you have to have um, you know, a laptop, the headphones, all of that. And I have I don't have like a regular laptop. I have like one of those windows.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like that you gotta connect the keyboard to. And I don't know if it'll take the programming. So but I'm definitely gonna uh make the jump. It's just make it when you're an independent because I got something for you. Make it when you're an independent creator, you're putting your own money into all this shit. You gotta figure out where you want to put your money into on top of your bills. So budget. But yeah. I'm out here, I'm outside. You on C G. Alright, y'all. It has been a motherfucking time.

SPEAKER_00

This is Podcast 1001, Jania in the building. We're gonna see y'all next week with another episode. Peace.

SPEAKER_01

Here in LA, where you be coming at the
