Coming up on this episode of the Designers of Change podcast, if your potential is never activated, you will never ever become the thing that God created you to be. Even though you have a vision of what you should become, even though you feel that pulling to become that thing that God has placed inside of you. And when we don't bet on ourselves, when we don't invest in ourselves, when we have low self-esteem, because when you have low self-esteem, it is one of the major reasons that you can't bet on yourself to become the thing that you want to be.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the Designers of Change podcast. I'm joined here by my partner in life. I can't say crime. Life, Mr. Right is here, and we are on episode 37. We want to talk to you guys today about why don't we bet on ourselves. Also, a huge shout out to Carrie and Gospel TV. I want to say a huge thank you to Regional Consulting Services all the way in K-Man, Max247, Wrecking Services, and also to SKRing Proactive Lifestyle. And also a huge thank you to you for showing up each and every time each week on this platform, whether YouTube or maybe on the streaming platforms, we appreciate your presence. What a great topic! Why don't we bet on ourselves, Mr. Wright?

SPEAKER_01

There's a lot to unpack in this. Why don't we bet on ourselves? But be first, before I go into why don't we bet on ourselves, is that every single human being has potential in them. Yes. God place an inner God place potential in them. There's a potential that deep that that that we're depositing them for them to become the thing that God created them to do. For example, in every seed there is a tree. In every seed there is a tree. But not every seed will become a tree. That potential will never become a tree. Because if that potential is never activated with the right environment, that seed will never become a tree. The same thing with human beings. If your potential is never activated, you will never ever become the thing that God created you to be. And so to become the person who God created you to be, you have to take risks. And people don't like to take risks. We are not telling you to take foolish risks, we are telling you that you have to take calculative risks. For you to become, for you to have good success, you have to take some chances in life. There are many people in life, they live, they live their life without taking any chance. You know, there was a gentleman by the name of Mr Ian Jackson. He tell a story one time about a guy and he said the person lives so risk-free. And he said something like this. He said, when the person die, the insurance deny the insurance claim because insurance claimed that he never lived. Because he lived in such a way that he never takes any risk. He never been to anywhere. And so there are some people they never really live. You know, John C. Maxwell said many people died at the age of 25. But they are just waiting on their official funeral at the age of 70. And he said that data 25 is where people no longer try to become, they no longer try to go after their dream. They no longer try to fulfill that potential, that purpose of becoming. Yes. Let me tell you why. Babes, let us say we start this podcast. There are so many people out there they want to start a podcast. But here's the thing, they have limited funds. You remember I asked the question a couple of years ago or a couple months ago. Is it resources that trap people from going after their prop dreams or is it their mindset? Here's the thing. If a person says, you know what, I'm going to start my podcast with limited funding, they run the trap of being the risk of being embarrassed.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Of being embarrassed. And that is what traps a lot of people. We are afraid to try anything new because we don't want to fail and feel embarrassed.

SPEAKER_04

True, true.

SPEAKER_01

So we're not going to start that business. And a couple of years down the road we hear that you are bankrupt. They repossess your vehicle. You can't pay your staff. You can't do this. And so taking risks, babes. Stepping outside of the boat because you can step outside of the boat and can't walk on water and you will sink. And so that level of embarrassment brings with it a level of shame.

SPEAKER_04

True.

SPEAKER_01

Because if you are going to achieve greatly, you must fail greatly. And there are too many people out there who are afraid of failing, who are afraid of stepping up because I can't work it out in my mind how it is going to work out. And so when we reach at that point, embarrassment sets in. But guess what? The people who succeed in life, the people who have good success in life, are those people who are being embarrassed by the by trace.

SPEAKER_02

Trust me, trust me, and they don't care. And I mean they have understood, they understand the concept of getting over themselves.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_02

They understand the concept of yes, it looks bad, but at the end of the day, I know where I'm heading. And we it's so it's so it's so amazing that you mentioned that because that's a process that we ourselves were going through. You will bet on yourself and fail. You will fall flat on your face, and it's going to be a very embarrassing situation, and you will have to face it. Yes. And you won't die when you face it. I promise you, you think it's the end, but it's not.

SPEAKER_01

I like I like you said something a while ago, and I like that. You say get over yourself.

SPEAKER_02

You have to get over yourself.

SPEAKER_01

Let me look in the camera, get over yourself because everybody else has already gotten over you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, gotten over. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So get over yourself. And so when we are preoccupied, when we when we are preoccupied with our own embarrassment, with our own shame, people people don't people are not really thinking about you to the degree that you are thinking about yourself. We don't care if you start a business and fail. We don't really care. And so the embarrassment trap, and as you said, we are we don't get over our own self. We think people are thinking about us in that. But the truth is there's a spotlight effect. People don't people are not really thinking about you to the degree you think others are thinking about you. So the embarrassment trap is is one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The second trap is the rationalization.

SPEAKER_02

Oh Lord.

SPEAKER_01

And every now and then we get into this ourselves. Am I doing the right thing?

SPEAKER_02

Not me, you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So am I doing the right thing? But and so we rationalize things.

SPEAKER_02

Rationalize everything.

SPEAKER_01

Do am I doing the right thing with this business?

SPEAKER_02

You have a million questions.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we have a lot of questions. And sometimes we rationalize, we rationalize. And guess what? If you rationalize for too long, guess what you're going to do? You are going to talk yourself out of everything. Out of everything.

SPEAKER_02

You eventually what happens is doubts start creeping in.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

You start saying to yourself, Oh my, I made a mistake. I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have used the savings to start the podcast. I shouldn't have, I shouldn't have gone that way. Maybe I should have waited. And then before you know it, you talked yourself into a complete downward spiral. And you haven't made anything any better. Yes. And so you have to find a way to get out of this constant mental loop of negative thoughts. Because you know what I tell myself? And this is something that has helped me to come out of some of the darkest pits. Let's put it this way God created me, right? So he knows me. And he gave me my purpose, right? And he gave me my mission. And he knows that Natasia is going to mess up, doesn't he? He knows that. And he still gave me the purpose and the mission anyway. So if he did that, why am I going to stress out myself? Because he already saw me making the one million mistakes. So he must know that I am going to have to get up, brush myself off, and keep going. Understand this, and I'm learning this in life. Guys, as much as we like to tell ourselves there's the right way and the wrong way to go, I'm learning that is not true. It does you could turn, you could take a turn that could be considered the wrong way, and God will still give you a rite of passage to where you're supposed to go. The more you understand that you're to get up today and try to make the best of the situation and do the right thing and leave everything else up to him, the easier it will be for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Because you won't figure everything out.

SPEAKER_01

As long as when you are connected to God and you submit to him, even in your mistake, this is what God does. God work human error into his will.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Into his plan.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And I think I love that. You work, and so when you are rationalizing, over rationalizing, you are talking yourself down. You are talking yourself down.

SPEAKER_02

You are causing yourself more problems. You are digging up and stirring up things that won't even happen. And so it makes no sense to do that. And there's another trap I want to mention before we go off to break, and that's the unrealistic trap.

SPEAKER_01

Oh Lord, oh Lord. Especially, I glad you mentioned that. A person wants to start something today, and they want to have the same accomplishment as someone who is doing something for 10 years.

SPEAKER_02

And nothing can go so.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, it's not going to work. And so when we are unrealistic in our expectations, it creates nothing in results. In result. It creates disappointment.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, what can go so? How can you just start in a field? You are at page one and you're expecting your page one to look like somebody's page 100, somebody who has been in the field for 15 plus years. Guys, those things are unrealistic. And no wonder you are filled with self-doubt. No wonder you sit in self-pity every single day. No wonder you're thinking that you're useless and worthless because you get caught up in this unrealistic trap. And I dare I say, it's a comparison trap, too. You'll never be happy. And so you have to be very mindful. We have some more traps we want to talk about, but we're gonna talk about them right after the break. Mr. Wright is gonna help us um finish off the discussion. Stick and stay, guys. Welcome back to episode 37, where we're asking this very pertinent question on why don't you bet on yourself? Yeah, it's a question I want you to ask yourself, and we were talking about quite a number of traps. I want you to just continue straight on that line because it's an interesting discussion.

SPEAKER_01

You were talking about the unrealistic and one of those unrealistic expectations that we have, we have that life should be easy, but life is not easy. You know, just to sum up, yeah, just to sum up this point, you know, in the book, the roadless travel. He said something in the book. Um Mr. I can't Scott Peck, I don't remember who wrote the book, The Roadless Travel, but he said something in the book. He said, Life is difficult, yes, and that's a great truth. Yes, but he said the moment you recognize that life is difficult, then life is no longer difficult because you have accepted the truth that life is difficult, and so the moment you accept that truth, you say you nullify, you you you are the moment you accept that is that life becomes easier.

SPEAKER_02

So, in other words, because of your awareness of the difficulties of life, that acceptance allows you to understand that it's just not going to be easy, easy, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And so it becomes easier because you accept that you're gonna be able to do it.

SPEAKER_02

You're okay with the fact that I won't get everything I want when I want, how I want, right?

SPEAKER_01

Another trap, apart from the unrealistic trap, is the the fairness trap. Lord of mercy. All of us want life to be fair. Oh my god. All of us want life to be fear. Can I look in the camera? Life is not fear. As long as you are, as long as you are breathing, as long as you live on this earth, life is not fear. Human beings are biased, you are going to get a better hand. Some people are going to get um worse hand, and so you can't accept expect life to be fear. It's not that old life, life is on fear, and a matter of fact, the moment you expect life to be fear is the moment that you let me put it this way if you are expecting life to be fear, you're going to disappoint yourself. You with me? Because life is not fear, and so if you expect life to be fear, it is going to trap you. Because why should you get the same result as someone who puts in more work than you? So, and then there are other times when someone might put in more work than you and get more than you. That's life. But if you expect life to be fair, then you are going to stuck and you are not going to bet on yourself, and you're not going to become the individual that you are going to be. Because someone somewhere will always have more than you. But here's the thing: you have you have enough enough potential inside of you to become the person that God created you to be. That is why God will never measure you with someone else. God can only measure you with what He has given to you.

SPEAKER_02

Right. So whatever measure of faith you have, that's that's what you're measured by. So God is going to be able to do it. Not somebody else.

SPEAKER_01

And the level of potential he puts inside of you because some people get more than others.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

That's life. The other one is the timing shop. I want to do it so perfectly.

SPEAKER_02

No, the time never find perfect time.

SPEAKER_01

Then you if you are waiting on Solomon say he who watches the rain will never sow or reap. We here's what Solomon is saying. If you are so preoccupied with the perfect moment, then what you what you what you should get done, you are not going to get it done. Because you are so preoccupied with this perfect moment when you should be out there. I'm not saying you are the right time to do things because you don't want to sow in in winter. There are seasons, right? But if it is the rainy period, you need to sow your seed during the rainy period. You're not going to sow, I'm going to sow tomorrow because tomorrow will have more rainfall. No. What you need to do is to do the right thing at the right time. But there's no such thing as I'm doing it at the perfect moment. And some people are trapped in time. When is the perfect when is the perfect time to purchase a house? When is the perfect time to start a family? When is the perfect time to do this? When is the perfect time to do that? And so when you do that, you are running yourself in procrastination. And guess what? The more you put off until tomorrow, we can guarantee that tomorrow, one, tomorrow never comes. And tomorrow, if you continue putting off something till tomorrow, you are not going to get it done.

SPEAKER_02

And you know, it goes two ways because it could be procrastination, yes, but it could also be a trap that keeps you quite discouraged. Because if you think there is a perfect time to do these things, and that time comes and passes, you will be discouraged because you're going to say, Oh my, I should have gotten married already. I'm 35. Now you're not married. You're going to be forever discouraged because you think that there is a perfect time to do things, and that's not so. Everybody's life is different.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And you have to understand that and you have to accept that. And that's why I say, guys, comparison is really the thief of joy, you know. Because when you are sitting down and watching everybody else and saying, Boy, they have children already, they finish the degree and the doctorate and the yes and the house. And you're saying, boy, I'm this age and I haven't done this. But you don't know that maybe two years down the line, you're going to do everything one time, and you're gonna have the biggest house of them all, and you're gonna have all the children, and you just don't know. Life is like that, so the timing trap can go both ways, it can cause you to procrastinate, and it can also keep you in like a prison because you're thinking to yourself that you have not made it like everybody else over that side, yeah, because you are only seeing the highlight real of people, yeah, you're only seeing the good things, you don't know what they're suffering to get to where they're they're they're getting to. All right, so you have to be very careful. And what about the inspiration trap? What about that one?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know, there are so many people who do who do not go after their dream or do not fulfill their purpose because they are waiting on inspiration.

SPEAKER_02

Oh read my lip.

SPEAKER_01

Inspiration is not going to strike you. And motivation does not last.

SPEAKER_02

You have the perfect story for that, right? So, you know, before I I always come every time we do shoot, I always have a new story. Like before I took my my exercising seriously, my walks and so on. Like, I would think that okay, once you start, naturally you're just gonna get motivated and you want to walk. You want to go for your walks and you wanted this and you want to that. After a while, I realized like it is sheer grace.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It is sheer willpower. Like it is just something that has to click in your brain that says, whether the sun is shining outside or it's raining, you're going to put on your clothes, you're going to put your shoes on, and you're going to walk. Yeah. That's where you have to get to. There is no inspiration that's going lightning, that's going to strike you. Yeah. And you're going to want to, oh, suddenly, oh my gosh, I'm going to do it. Kind of thing. No.

SPEAKER_01

It's just like every day. Sometimes I hear people just sigh, sigh, sigh, sigh. I just can't get the motivation to do what I want to do. You have to do it. It's not what you need is not motivation. You need discipline. Because here's the thing success, making it to the top, getting better is not a feeling.

SPEAKER_02

It's not.

SPEAKER_01

You don't marry for long because you feel loved every day. I feel butterfly. You know, butterfly in a stomach. You know, babes, you don't marry long because every day you drink champagne out of babe's shoes. No. Babe's foot is cheesy, okay?

SPEAKER_02

My foot not cheesy. And I say in your foot, it's not cheap.

SPEAKER_01

But but but you don't marry for long because you feel butterfly every day. You need yeah. Love is a choice. Yes. Discipline is a choice. Yes. Even though I don't feel like and I I don't I don't think just get up every day and feel like edit a video. No, sir. But it's a discipline. You have to you have to get what you need to get done. And so when you have discipline, discipline is more important than inspiration. Yes, I may feel inspired in the moment, but what you need is discipline and what you need is grit. And so the inspirational trap will keep you from betting on yourself. I don't feel inspired to write the book. I don't feel inspired to go to the gym. I don't feel inspired to do this and this size.

SPEAKER_02

You know, you know, you know that we're on this topic. People will literally look at other people like they see people, like for example, you see people who are fit and you say, oh yeah, man, they just have good genes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Right? You say, no man, genetically, that's how their makeup, they just look good, right? Or you see people who are top of the field, educated, and you say, no man, they just bright. Or you know, you see people who are doing oh no man, they're just good with money. Only to to have a conversation with the people and hear what they eat, how they work, and you hear that. Listen, they have to force themselves to be disciplined. Guys, this is a completely different ball game. Many of us don't bet on ourselves because we just don't have the work ethic, we don't have the discipline, we don't have the consistency, and that's something that I'm committed to working towards. And guys, I love this discussion. We have to we have to wrap it up right here. But you know, you have to get out of these traps. Watch this episode again, please. If you need this, because you have to bet on yourself to show up every day, every day you get up, you're selling yourself. Yeah, you have to bet on you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, bet on yourself. That's the only way you are going to fulfill your purpose, your God-given destiny. Here's the thing when you bet on yourself, it seems to mean that you are investing in yourself, it seems to mean that you are worthy of the investment. You are simply saying that I have confidence in myself that I can fulfill the things that God has for you. So get over this trap. I think the number one trap is embarrassment because you you can't succeed in life until you fail. But guess what? You can get a return on failure if you learn from the things that you fail from. Absolutely. So get up from it, learn from it, and push forward, but never allow the shame of failure or embarrassment to keep you where you are. And log in a subscription first.
