SPEAKER_02

Hello, everybody, and welcome back to your favorite new podcast, Fangirls of a Certain Age. It is I, Amber, and as always, I'm joined by the wonderful perfect Miss Becky. Hello, Becky. Perfect? Are you sure about that? Yes, that's nice. That's nice. I did not misspeak. Uh, we are so excited to have all of you here because this is a very special bonus episode. We would like to welcome you all back to Split Rivers Favorite Podcast. We are here uh to discuss all things school spirits season three. Boy, howdy, do we have a lot of thoughts and theories and opinions and feelings. This season was a true roller coaster, and so we could not just end it and act like nothing happened. We, of course, have to follow up. Uh, we were with you at the beginning of the season when we attended the premiere in Los Angeles with the cast, and so it only made sense for us to be with you now at the end of the season to talk all things split river and to share our theories, our thoughts, and also some of yours. So, thank you to everybody who uh answered us on social media, on TikTok and Instagram. We got so much incredible engagement from school spirit fans. We are we have a lot to talk about. So uh let's just dive into it. So, Becky, what do you got for us?

SPEAKER_00

I am so excited. You know, any time that I get to talk about school spirits is a good day for me. So let me run down a little bit about what we're gonna do. As is a bonus episode, of course, we will not have a fangirl 50, we will not have a blessed manifest, although we will manifest a season four. We'll put that into existence. Yes, we will. Uh we will not have a classic blessed manifest. We're gonna start with uh a couple things uh from us specifically, um, and then we're gonna jump right into a lot of the meat of the episode is what you all said, what you all had to say, what questions you have. Um, and we want to sort of as best we can be in conversation with you. So we're gonna read off some of the things that uh people had said on Instagram or TikTok uh and just kind of talk a little bit about our favorite show. Sound good, Amber? That sounds great to me. Alright, so jumping in with you and I, I wanted to know if your favorite character has changed or did someone surprise you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'll I'll be honest right off the bat. Um, the cast this season, and we said this with episode one, did we not? They're not playing around. Everyone this season has leveled up and everyone was so much fun. And full disclosure, seasons one and two, I could just leave Xavier wherever he was. I was like, that's fine, it's fine. I I just I didn't connect with him. But after this season, I was like, he's so fun. And I feel like this was the first time that he got to be fun. And again, I do have to hand it to the writers because I feel like the first two seasons they really put our characters through a lot of emotional and high-stakes turmoil. And I do think that that paid a toll on their characters because now that those stakes have changed and shifted, that they're not super worried about Maddie, but they have Maddie who has this knowledge of the world that Simon is in, they they can be a little lighter, the levity was there a little bit more, and I just I loved Xavier's journey in the hospital, I loved him with Kyle. I feel the same way about Simon. I loved Simon this season. He was great and had like a lot more grit than I knew Simon had. But the one character that I have always like low-key loved, but at the end of this season is the reason I cried. Like, reason I cried was Mr. Martin. Oh, Mr. Martin. I love Mr. Martin so much.

SPEAKER_00

I would like credit because I said that man was coming back on a redemption tour, and boy, did he.

SPEAKER_02

That is true, that is true. And I I have always loved Mr. Martin, just a cute little academic with good hair and glasses, and someone who means well. He's he's the leader and he's trying to take care of people. And yes, he made bad choices.

SPEAKER_00

When he said that, he was like, Admittedly, I know I won't be getting my door, or whatever he said that one part made me laugh so hard.

SPEAKER_02

I don't expect to be getting my door, but right, and I was like, Well, at least that we love a self-aware king. So I yeah, his entire arc the whole season, I just I loved Mr. Martin so much. So I mean, loaded question right off the bat, but my favorites were really surprised me. Obviously, Wally is still very high up there for me, but Mr. Martin is giving him a run for his money, I'm not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_00

I I actually enjoyed Mr. Martin as well this season. I just knew in my heart. I knew he made poor choices, but I knew he meant well. And that is why I've been singing that for such a long time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, his intentions were skewed. Then he panicked and spiraled a little bit, but he did the right thing in the end.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, sorry, y'all. Here she goes. She's not just saying this.

SPEAKER_02

It's literally why I didn't even mention Wally. I was like, she's gonna.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's fine. First of all, she's a loyal queen, always. I did really enjoy Wally's arc this season because I thought he actually did do a sort of metamorphosis. Uh we thought that he really, as he got his door at the end of season two, that we saw his arc, right? But he really changed a lot over this season as well. And I really loved him coming into his own and sort of being confident in himself because even though he's a jock and he was like big man on campus, and we will get to that scene, let me tell you.

SPEAKER_02

Oh lord.

SPEAKER_00

Even though all of that happened, he always lacked a little bit of confidence, right? And speaking of Mr. Martin, that one scene where Mr. Martin and he are kind of outside, and he says to Mr. Martin, Who's gonna lead us now? And he said, and Mr. Martin says, Maybe I'm looking at him. And it just sort of snapped something in him. The way he was protective of everybody, the way that he, you know, was into solving things, obviously, um, the way that he understood what Maddie needed from him, you know what I mean, and wasn't overbearing in that way. Um, we will get to that as well. I have a lot of things to say about that. Uh, and you know, the decisions he was making and how he was making them. I I truly, truly, I just thought his arc was really cool because I thought, where else could we go with Wally? And here we are, and we to your point, we leveled up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And you're right, that he did have quite a journey. I feel like these characters have all gone on really substantial arcs. Uh, don't even get me started on Nicole and Claire. I just feel like we all saw different versions of the characters without them being different characters. They were put in different circumstances and different environments, and they were like, okay, well, how would Nicole, how would Nicole act at a high school party without her people? This is how she'd react. Freaking weird. That was so great. It was so great. And we all know, I think everybody is very well aware, that we are obsessed with Chiara Pachardo. I'm sorry. Love her so much. Her physical comedy this season was cracking me up. Just like she's so expressive, and there were so many moments where like Nicole was in this shenanigans kind of situation where it was like, Yeah, well, what is Nicole gonna do? And she would just kind of look at the camera with this crazy face, and it was just it was so enjoyable to see them in such different versions of themselves.

SPEAKER_00

I agree, I agree, and don't get me started on Claire either, because uh oh, she's so strong and so smart and so powerful. Just a badass for the ages, and I loved her so much, and I really loved the subtle choices that they made with both of them to sort of show their more metamorphosis, if you will. Even when we got um a rainbow in her natural hair halfway through the season, I loved that because it was like this is the real me, this is who I'm wanting to be.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's a really, really great observation. That's a great observation. I think even just the visual of that she's changing her appearance means that she is coming into herself, that she's accepting more of who she is. I love that. Can I share metamorphosis? And I would love to share a little detail that I picked up. Um, and and I know you picked up on one of these too. So, what I do love also, in addition to the cast and the writers and all of that, is the people who are doing costume and set design are also like give them their awards because aside from things just being really well done, um the subtle nuanced details that were symbolic or foreshadowing if you were paying attention, were so good. Becky, I know you pointed one out to me. I'm gonna stop right here for just a second and say, in case you don't know, we're talking about season three of School Spirits and we're talking everything. So spoilers are coming. This is your spoiler alert. Going forward, because I'm about to say a really big spoiler, a really big one. Um, so I just want to say that now. So here comes the really big spoiler. If you are still listening, stop. But in I think it's the episode before the finale, um, towards the end, they really focus on a poster in Maddie's bedroom for invasion of the body snatchers. And immediately Becky was like, someone's getting body snatched. So it's happening, and of course it happens to Sandra. But something I noticed is that Deb constantly wore a brooch of a dragonfly. And a dragonfly is symbolic to new life and metamorphosis. So that is one of the reasons that I was on to Deb right from the start, where I was like, mmm, something's going on there. And also I am gonna take my flowers about that freaking lipstick scene. I was so right about that lipstick scene. There were many theories that I was way off on, way off on, and I own that, and that's fine. But the episode where they find Kyle's body and they're talking to Van Height, and Kyle shoots himself in the leg and all that, when it goes back to Deb and Livia in the car at the very end of that episode, and Deb is putting on lipstick. Please just watch that scene again now, knowing what you know. It's so comical because I was like, why is she putting on lipstick like that? And I lit, what did I say to you, Becky? I said it literally looks like a man is putting on lipstick. That's what I said, and I and poof, I was right. So those details, the set design, all very, very good.

SPEAKER_00

So, you know, we love to give our flowers here. So production designer Charlie Campbell was part of that. We also have a set decorator, Denise Flower, costume design Rebecca, all right, Queen. Uh Rebecca Sorensen, um Killstrip. I'm so sorry if I'm saying that name wrong. Beverly Hune. Those are all the folks that um have something anyway to do uh with uh production design and costume design, a la uh at least what IMDB tells me. So yeah, surely there's entire teams involved. I'm also gonna shout this person out really quick. Uh Lars Grant, who is the stunt coordinator. I'm shouting that person out because the stunts this season were wild. They're a lot. Wild. And all of the people that are uh paired up with their um character counterpart to do the stunts. Um thank you for your service, quite literally. Yes, yes. Loved it. Um, okay. So um can we go through favorite scenes?

SPEAKER_02

Sure.

SPEAKER_00

How many do you have?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I don't have like a whole lot. Obviously, any of the Molly scenes were fantastic, so I'm not even gonna touch them because I know that that is what Becky is going to want to dissect. I have three, y'all, and one of them is not a Molly scene. Oh my god, I'm so shocked. I'm so shocked. I wouldn't even say that there were a lot of scenes necessarily, but I feel like there were certain um settings that I really liked to see what they were doing because, and I think I think Milo might have said this at the premiere that we went to, where he said that everybody is kind of paired up with different people this season. And again, I love that because I do think that that played a lot into why we were able to see these characters acting a different way because we were seeing them with different people and different energies and different sets, and so that being said, like I loved, I really enjoyed Xavier this season. I I most enjoyed him when he was in the hospital. Anytime that he was talking to Kyle, talking to Dave, like I just loved those scenes because he was the only landside character that could have that experience in the hospital, and so it made it interesting. Like that he was kind of a dork. Because, like, in the first two seasons, they make they make Xavier like the bad boy. Anything with Xavier in the hospital, I enjoyed. Um, and then this was a super small, super small moment. But um again, Simon being with anybody else was so interesting to see. His just very quick interaction with Ronda in the first episode. I was like, oh my god, they have such good chemistry. And I don't even mean that like in a romantic way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just that interaction that they had. I was like, oh, I loved that. Um, and same thing with him and Janet also had really good chemistry. So there was a lot of scenes that I could be very generic about, but I am gonna say this one, and I wonder if this is one of your three. I apologize if it is. Quinn's dream sequence.

SPEAKER_00

Of course it is. Don't apologize. That was one of the best moments of the entire season. My god talk about a metamorphosis.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Here's here is my hot take. And I told Becky this many times. There was a lot of story this season. A lot. And sometimes it was hard to keep up with all of the different pieces. And so I would get disoriented, so to speak, if there was a jarring break from the main story to like shoehorn a scene in. Um, the one that comes to mind while I loved it was the flashback with Lizzie McAlpine, which was a beautiful song, and I'm so glad that we got that scene from it. But also, I was like, the stakes are really high. Like, do we really have the time for a seven-minute departure from our regular thing? But with Quinn's, I was like, we needed every moment of this, we needed every single second of it. It was perfect. I loved it. I loved that everybody was vibing, I love that everyone was feeling themselves, and most of all, I loved that it was Quinn's literal metamorphos. It was literal their opportunity to come into themselves and realize who they were and go forward completely with no apologies and with the confidence, and it was just such a beautiful scene from start to finish. Costume, set design, choreography, music. That I just amazing. And they did warn us at the premiere, they were all like, oh my god, episode four. Si Hang Ma, you're oh, it's the best, you're gonna love it. And boy were they right. So that's what I've got for scenes.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. So agreed. That is one of mine. The other two, of course, have to do with Wally because they just do, and that's how life goes with this girl right here. The first one is uh the high school scene. I needed more of that. I need a spin-off. You mean when he looks in the mirror?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes. When Wally looks into the mirror in the finale. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and we get back into the 80s forever so small at a moment. I die. The way he like kissed the little kissed himself in the mirror, the winks down the hallway. And I don't know if you picked up on this, but I did. He only says one line to the like meathead guy friend that he's walking with, and when he says it, he sounds just like Zed. His Zed voice comes out, and it made me laugh because I was like, You sound like Zed right there.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I don't know. So you have to go back and listen. Yeah, I'll need to listen to that. Um, but in any event, we've actually all been waiting for that. We've all been wanting to see what Wally's backstory was in real time. So much has been made of how he was the big man on campus, and thank you very much. He did get out of a transam. You were right. I said that means that was a flashback because he's a cool guy, and the cool guy had the transam in the 80s. Um, but I loved that scene, and my other manifest is that I need a Steve Harrington Wally Clark spin-off show. Where do we get that? Where do we get that?

SPEAKER_02

Paramount Plus, listen up. You better be making some contacts with Netflix. Let's get it going.

SPEAKER_00

Am I the only one? No. No, I'm certain you're not the only one. I don't know what we call this show, but we'll we'll workshop it. And now I'm gonna talk about the scene of the season for me and for a lot of people I know. And a lot of people enjoyed it, but I want to talk about the anatomy of this scene as I like to do. And that is the scene in the mechanic shop, okay? Are we all sitting down and ready to talk about this? Here yes. Yes, that was really sexy, really hot, all the things, right? But what I found so interesting is how sexy and intimate, which I think was a really big theme this season, was intimacy and across everybody, and I'll get into that later. Um, but and how intimate it was without touching. I thought that both Peyton and Milo did an amazing job of conveying that sort of desire and need for somebody without touching. What I also really liked about that scene was that the first half with them talking was very like feminist-driven, right? Like she's kind of pouring her heart out and he's not trying to solve, he's not trying to tell her what to do. He's like, hey, nobody expects all this from you. I'm here to support you, whatever it is you want to do, but like you shouldn't expect these things of yourself, right? We're now in this other part of the scene where you know the music starts playing and whatnot, and then he becomes the assertive one and falls into a more gender-typical moment where the man is taking control. And I really liked that sort of juxtaposition, and I thought it was also interesting that there are a lot of female writers, but that particular scene um was directed by Nate, and so I really liked this idea that you know, both male and females behind the scenes also were coming together to create what is sexy and how do we make it as such. I just again, I know nobody probably like dove into it as much as I did because they just took it at face value for what it was, but I just found it so fascinating and just really, really well done for what they were trying to convey.

SPEAKER_02

What say you? I think the balance is what makes it sexy. I think you hit the nail on the head with intimacy being a uh a theme this season between many different characters. Uh, we do need to talk talk about Yuri and Charlie, by the way. Um because their scenes were I pfft, I loved their arc too. Um but we'll get there. Richie, Richie, we're gonna get there. Don't worry. Yeah, don't worry, Richie, we're gonna talk. Fangirl Richie, we're gonna do it. I do think that the reason it was sexy is because there was that balance. I think that if he had just come in hot, it still would have been a nice scene. But I think what made it nice was that it he started with the caring and compassionate side to make her feel taken care of and make her feel heard, and then it very seamlessly, in my opinion, transitioned into this intimate moment between the two of them. Again, they established these rules very early on in the season that they can't touch, but they have this longing for each other. How are we gonna do that? And sometimes the lead up is just as hot as the act, and they towed that line so beautifully. It was a really, really great scene.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and y the other thing is that like it was really part of Wally's arc. Of course, you know, at face value, it's super sexy when he's telling her, I'd take this off your shoulder. But when then he says, let it go, again, he's not that guy. He's been sort of a bumbling idiot, or you know, a sweet, sweet golden retriever, or you know what I'm saying? And it was all part of the arc to be of him sort of taking ownership and taking leadership of everything. Yeah, that's fair.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I thought it was a really interesting way to sort of, you know, color that as well.

SPEAKER_02

So um again, I'm sorry if I ruined the hotness for anybody because I just broke it down into a whole different place, but um No, you enhanced it because now people will look at it through that lens and they can appreciate it on even a more intimate lens.

SPEAKER_00

I just I just thought it was really well done. Um, and I'm just gonna say it, shout out to Milo, because I don't know how long it took to film that scene, but he had to hold his whole entire body up that entire time they were filming that scene, and I'm sure his arms were dunzo by the time that scene was over with.

SPEAKER_02

And I know we mentioned it a little bit already that everybody does go on an arc, but I think that that was that had to have been like a goal written on a whiteboard. Every single character is gonna start here and is gonna end over here. And with uh Charlie and Yuri, I didn't really know what that was gonna look like for them. And for Yuri to be as closed off and private and not really vulnerable, and Charlie being the polar opposite, I was always like, How is that gonna work? Like, that's going to implode eventually, where they're not getting from each other what they need. And I liked how they kind of did a roller coaster where one minute Charlie's saying something that he shouldn't have said, and Yuri's doing something that he shouldn't have done. I mean, those are the pitfalls and the trials and tribulations of a relationship. And I liked that even though Charlie and Yuri maybe in that moment were facing the same stakes as, say, like, you know, Maddie or Simon, they were still dealing with their own stuff. And I thought so many of their moments were just really, really great and really sweet, and that they listened to each other. I liked the part when Yuri straight up told him, Sometimes you suffocate me. And that's tough to hear, man. Like, that is tough to hear from anybody. And so exactly, but like I consider myself an extroverted introvert, and so I will give all of my love and energy to somebody. I don't always understand that people don't love that way, and people are like, you're it's too much. It's too much. You gotta bring it down a notch. And that's hard to hear because you're like, How do I do that? How do I love you this way then? And so for Yuri to feel safe enough to say something that is painful and hurtful to someone like Charlie, who at first was offended and hurt by it, but then later when he says, like they're talking about it, and Charlie said, I'm not mad, I'm just I'm just saying that's that's a fact, that's how you feel, and I'm I'm respecting and recognizing that. I think that's really big in a relationship.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I really love when he said respectfully shut the fuck up and kissed him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, that was just as hot, honestly, yeah, because that was that was the same episode. That was the same episode that happened before, and he said respectfully shut the fuck up. And I was like, oh my god, Yuri. And I said yes, yes, sir. No problem. I captain, yes, it was it was hot, I'm not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_00

Um and of course, not to be left out, Rhonda and Quinn. Oh my gosh. And I loved the turn of the heels that Quinn was the assertive one in that whole thing. And not just because of the mushrooms.

SPEAKER_02

No, and you're absolutely right. Because why is Rhonda one of my favorite people? Because she doesn't give a fuck. Like, Rhonda is gonna be Rhonda and she doesn't care if what she says hurts her feelings, she doesn't care if it's not what you want to hear, she doesn't care. Rhonda's gonna say what Rhonda's gonna say, and so you would expect that in a situation like that, that Rhonda would be in full control. And the fact that Quinn was like, I can wait. Like, I'm certainly not going to make you feel uncomfortable. I'm certainly not going to do something that you are not welcoming. But Quinn was assertive and still waiting for the green light, and then as soon as they got that green light, they went for it again. So, like a lot of vulnerable, a lot of vulnerability this season, too, with people just kind of letting go and coming into themselves in both like people who are typically stronger characters showing a lot more vulnerability and more vulnerable characters showing a lot more strength. It was a really, really great balance.

SPEAKER_00

So, before we jump into the meat of everything, uh, I do have to give an honorable mention to the scene in the farmhouse with um our newest character, Kyle, who is played by Ari Dalbert, uh, and of course, Peyton List and Spencer McPherson, um, so Xavier and Maddie, the three of them in that room, and the way that the tension just built and built and built, and then you know, they finally reveal that they know who that is, and he sits back and says, I haven't been called that in a very long time. I'm like, don't drink some tea, Xavier. Like, all of it was so good.

SPEAKER_02

It was so you are so good. That scene was really suspenseful, and I have to say, like, I think all of the new characters this season were great, but Ari Dahlbert for me was was my standout because he played essentially like three different characters and was so good as all of them. I was just like so floored, I couldn't believe that. Like, he was amazing, and then um I think it was Christian Ventura posted um on Instagram the shot of him in the back of the truck on in the beginning of the next episode. That whole scene was amazing too. The way they shot it. And it was a hard scene to shoot, incredibly hard scene to shoot, and even just like look like the bird's eye view. I'm like, Ari Dahlbert, again, give the man an award because his neck is practically broken in that scene. Like he is his head is just cricked so hard that I was like, oh my god, that position looks painful. He was incredible. I loved him, I thought he was really great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I so we could just keep going with the love and the love and the love, but I'm sure we'll get into some other stuff as we jump into what our buddies in Split River um have to say. And again, thank you everybody for uh writing in, I guess, as the case may be. That sounds a bit a bit certain agey, but um for answering call. Yeah, but for commenting because again, um we've always said that this particular podcast was gonna be community, and so this was the first time that we really truly got to kind of try that out. So uh we'll just pretend you're all in the room with us. So um we're gonna start off with our buddy Nance.

SPEAKER_02

Hey fangirl, Nance. Uh Nance is such a cornerstone of the fangirls of a certain age community. She always has fun stuff to say.

SPEAKER_00

And what I love about Nance is she's a Molly girl forever. She loves her some Molly. She also liked Charlie learning to love himself and standing up to the bullies, which I love that in that last episode where he was like, not now, dude. Yeah, that was great. Charlie. I loved this sentence that she said, Quinn showing that bravery comes in different ways. I thought that was a beautiful way to put that because it's so true. Nance says her theories going into season four, um, it's that the ghosts are not going to have their boundaries anymore, and that they're going to be able to see their family again. And I want to talk a little bit about that because I agree. Obviously, as we saw, the barrier has broken, at least right then, right there. Um, and so that they're gonna kind of get off campus, which makes sense because again, our school's a little beat up now, y'all. So yeah. Um, and so I think that now they'll be able to join the adventure trying to get uh Van Hyte and and to stop him. Um but I also think they're gonna get the opportunity to go and see their families, um, and we're gonna see some interesting uh dynamics and interesting character arcs. What do you think about, you know, kind of that particular wrinkle?

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so you mentioned that you're thinking that they're going to see their family, and I totally agree. That would be the first thing that anyone would do, right? You finally get the opportunity to see your family after all these years. Absolutely. We did get a comment from at Renee um on TikTok. This is their favorite show, and they don't have anyone to talk about it. Not the not the case anymore, babes. Yep. Welcome. Welcome. You're gonna hate how much we talk about it. Um, but they said I had this theory that Dr. Hunter Price was Wally's sister, but now I'm unsure. Though someone is related, I feel it. So that thought just gave me an idea in this moment. It reminded me that Wally does absolutely mention a sister. Yes, he does.

SPEAKER_00

In that last episode, he meant mentions a sister, which that was a beautiful scene too. We didn't even talk about the scene with Wally and Rhonda. Oh, oh God, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god, that scene was so good. Okay, so he mentions that he has a sister, and from a writer's perspective, that is a breadcrumb. There is an intentional reason that they mentioned it. It could just be a throwaway and, like, oh, no big deal if he mentions a sister. If they want to bring in a sister later, now they can, because that that breadcrumb has been left. So in the event that they do that Wally gets out, or maybe, maybe Wally is trapped, but they're like, we need to go to Wally's family, and maybe they recruit the sister. We meet Ma what if Wally's sister is a new character in the next season? And she gets recruited.

SPEAKER_00

Maddie have a conversation with his mother.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, I mean that's because Rhonda could suggest it. They don't know how to get Wally out, so maybe Rhonda's like, you know, maybe we need to learn something or find this extra wrinkle or something that could help us. We should go to his house and then they meet his mom and his sister, and then the sister gets to be part of the gang. Like, I mmm, that would be interesting.

SPEAKER_00

I like it. I'm in. I'm in. Um, okay, so the next one comes from uh Milo Dot community. So they say I think there are still many secrets to uncover, clearly. Uh Wally, Janet, Dawn, and Dave are trapped in this strange forest. Okay, so I have a theory about why they're trapped in this strange forest, and Amber likes to laugh at me when I say this because I can't help but obsess over people's schedules for filming things. Oh god.

SPEAKER_02

It's the the minutia in which you have figured this out. The fact that she has said to me so many times, they've got a problem on their hands because of Milo schedule cracks me up where I'm like, oh my god, I'm sure this has already been contracted. They've got it figured out.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm I am always fascinated with this a quick sidebar. Like, for instance, I keep calling, I keep saying they're MCUing this. One of the places that I really always am like, how in the world do they get all these people's schedules together to make this work? Is in the MCU, right? You see the Avengers, and it's about 75 of the top actors in the whole wide world, right? Um, and so how do you get all their schedules to match? Well, what do they do? They put them all in different planets or places, and then they can film their stuff, and then of course they'll just have one time and one space. They need to get everybody's schedules together. And so I think that was kind of what they did. They MCU'd it so that they will have that sort of little bit of wiggle room at least, um, and they won't have to film linearly, and then of course they can get together possibly for something at the end, and so I feel you, but they are trapped, Milo Dot community. You're correct. Um, so they think we'll also find out why so many doors are visible, visible, but not their own, so they can't seem to refine their own. Only dad did. Dad knows more about what's going on in the forest than we realize that he knows. Dad, by the way, is played by Danny Mac. Doesn't he seem like a Danny Mac? I like that name. Oh, yeah, that's a perfect name for him. Yeah, right. Um, so um, and I liked this question. The barrier has fallen back at high school, as we were talking about, meaning the ghosts can move around, but at what cost? So I think that's really interesting. And I also wonder about that too. And if they decide to stay together, by the way, what happens when they don't have to be together anymore? Is that a question that they have to sort of figure out? I assume that the A plot of trying to help Van Hype hit the skids is gonna keep everyone together, but that is a question, right? Um, and they also said not all ghosts are friendly, and that also makes me wonder because one thing I did catch when Xavier and Dave were sitting there with Maddie when she was in her trance, and he says, you know, we gotta keep her moving. And then he says, you know, if people can body jump um under anesthesia, then they might be able to body jump her because she's vulnerable. Uh, excuse me. When did we talk about anybody body jumping in under anesthesia? That hasn't come up for any reason. Kyle. Kyle, I'm sure that that's what he was referring to.

SPEAKER_02

We never learned that. It could be what he was referring to, but we didn't learn. I mean, that's what I assumed. I assumed because they said Kyle lost a lot of blood and blah blah blah, and so he jumped out of Kyle before well, I guess he jumped out of Kyle before that, unless he jumped in the hospital to generate.

SPEAKER_00

So, my point of all that is to say there's way more, and he knew exactly where to go to get that door. He knew exactly how to go through that door, he knew exactly how to find that door, um, which makes me wonder if he's been in the forest before and out of the forest. We know that Van Height has been in the forest and out of the forest because he shot himself in the foot and went through the door that went to the forest.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So there's a way out of there. Um, we will figure out what that is, I suppose.

SPEAKER_02

You know, there is another fangirl and one of our true blues, uh, and we're shouting out Gertie uh on TikTok. My girl Gertie. Gertie, we love you so much. You are queen. You are queen. Um, but I I totally agree, and she mentioned something in this in this comment that she left that completely escaped my brain, and I was like, you're so right. This makes me it's not that I don't trust Dave, it's that Dave has secrets and he's not shared them with the class yet. Um so Gertie says, I need to know what Maddie's dad knows. He knew how to get to the forest, and Kyle said that he would disappear for days. I forgot about that. Yeah. And this continuing at Gertie's thought, uh, which leads me to believe he knows how to find his door and get back to the other side. Because remember, the nurse said that her door had been tampered with, that somebody has been using her door. And of course, we're led to believe that that somebody is Van Height, but could be more than one person, could be Dave too.

SPEAKER_00

So the nurse that shot someone once. That made me so hard.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. She's she's wild.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay. So kind of dovetailing, as you like to say off of that, uh, Amberg says, How do Janet and Dawn know about what the mirrors do? Who did they watch get stuck in their mirror memories? And guess what, Amberg? I have no idea. Um, but I thought that was a really interesting question because yes, as you know, ever the scientist or women in STEM, Janet will need all of this information to process to figure things out, right? And she's an observer, yeah. Uh-huh. So they would have watched people be there. And and Dawn says at one point, we see some people sometimes, but not very often. So it would be interesting to know who they have seen. Van Heyten Dave. Well, and of course, their other question, which is the big question, is what's with crossing the river? Is that that? Don't cross the river unless you don't want to come back, which is what uh Dawn says. Also, shouts out Dawn for always knowing every single thing, every single episode, and bringing everything together.

SPEAKER_02

We I kind of had a feeling that we were gonna find Don and Janet again. We like we we kind of saw that coming. But boy, was it a wonderful surprise when Don straight up tackled Maddie. Um so I have two things I would like to jump on top of that for. So Kayleen says we've got to talk about the woods. Fangirl Kayleen. Fangirl Kayleen, uh, tip of the hat to you. Um, are we not are we not underwhelmed by what the other side looks like? So I kind of want to talk about what the other side looks like in the mirrors. So I'm gonna get a little existential here for just a second. If you've ever watched the show The Good Place, I feel like this concept of afterlife and what these things could mean may have been like inspired by that. It definitely plays into the stigma of what we expect like heaven, hell, afterlife, uh, existence and worth to be. And so I do not believe that the forest is the afterlife. I don't I don't believe that. I believe it's more uh close to a purgatory. So while people would think that being in a being a ghost in the real world is the best you can get, well, not if you're trapped to one place forever, right? So of course these ghosts are gonna be looking to get literally anywhere, and they will take any opportunity they can get. So all they know is if I go out this door, I'm anywhere but here. So I don't care what's on the other side. I don't care if it means that I'm crossing over to, you know, the end of existence or to the pearly gates or whatever. They've never known what's been on the other side of the door. It just wasn't the school, it just wasn't the hospital. So them getting into the woods to me is purgatory because now it's so much worse than what it was before. Because now, yes, they're in this big sweeping landscape and they can visit their memories because see the mem see the mirrors as portals. So they can look into their memories and essentially get taken to another place so that they're not alone in the forest and you know, walking around this purgatory. The mirrors give them an opportunity to visit other places and to come back out if they can. So then I've certain I've heard a lot of questions like, well, what's the big deal? Like, why can't you fall into a memory? And there is a fangirl that I had a very long conversation with via a messenger who would prefer to stay anonymous. Um, but it was really fascinating to talk about this that memories are not always a great place to live. And if you fall into a memory the way that you remember it and you continue to live it over and over, it starts to become less of a memory and more of a fantasy. And those things can change. And so then does it turn from a good memory to a bad one or one that never existed, and then you lose all sense of self and your life and all of that. So, like, I don't really believe that this is the quintessential afterlife, but I do believe that it is another level of existence in being that people don't consider at the end of life. And I do think, and I don't have it all thought out yet, but I do think that if you cross the river, it is game over. I think when you cross that you cross the river, you are at peace and your soul is expunged and put into the universe and it is done. That's what I took from the river. Um, I don't know that Simon's mom was actually there or if it was some if it was a vision to pull Simon across the river. So I don't know that I don't think Simon's mom was actually there so much as she was someone pulling Simon. Um, but I do believe that the pastor and the kids were.

SPEAKER_00

He couldn't remember who he was at that moment, but yet he could see that it was this person was important to him. So I thought that was interesting too. Yeah, he was drawn to her. Yeah. And that friend of us who was anonymous also had some really cool thoughts about color and how color has been used to sort of inform the season.

SPEAKER_02

It was very, very interesting. They had put together a whole uh breakdown of what different colors mean for different reasons and different characters and different uh stories, and that if you pay attention and follow those colors, that they can be a foreshadower, they can be a symbol to tell you exactly what this piece means, which I really wouldn't put past the writers. Again, look at the set design, look at those details, look at all those little things that have played out throughout the entire season. So I absolutely support this color theory that this anonymous fangirl had because I thought it was really, really brilliant. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, all right. So next at Jewel says, I wonder if anyone at the assembly recognized Rhonda or Quinn and how they might play out next season. And then fangirl Richie, Richie Goesboom at Richie Goesboom on TikTok. If you're not following, please do.

SPEAKER_02

Um love you, Richie.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Also says I have a theory that some. Like Claire or Nicole is going to somehow be able to see the ghosts without having to die first, uh, or you know, go to the ghosty world first. Um, and I think they never said obviously, but I think from the way that both Nicole and Claire, who by the way, again, let's shout them out again, we're gonna take that whole MFR down. Mm-hmm. He they were ready. Oh my god, Claire. I she's so cool. I'm gonna be Claire when I grow up. Anyway, when they kind of paused and looked, that they knew exactly that that was Rhonda and Quinn. Now they would have seen Rhonda's picture um from season two, so they would have probably put two and two together, but um, but yeah, they kind of figured out right then, and that was great acting on their part because we could see the wheels working and that they could they understood uh, I do think. And I'm gonna shout Richie out one more time because if we didn't say this, he'd probably be upset, and that is to say that he's Olivia Stan. He loves him some Livia. Uh he does love Cherry, by the way, as well. Um, and we all do, but uh, but he's Olivia Stan. And so I thought Erica Swayze did a beautiful job in what she was asked to do with what she was given. Uh-huh. A hundred percent. I wished that her that her character could have been a bit more developed, and it makes me wonder if we'll see her again in season four to join up, I would say, to join the adventure.

SPEAKER_02

Um, it would be a waste if it if she wasn't, because Olivia deserved more than that. She was great, but I just I I wanted her to be more of the story.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, I love that Kaylin says, I need a follow-up on Kyle. Like, he just in this brand new body. Or, you know, a brand new old body is actually what what they said. Um, that was his, but he thought he was dead. It's a lot. I just like the way it was. It's a lot. It is a lot. It's a lot for Kyle, too, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_02

I would love Ari Dalbert to come back. We've we've always said that, you know, there's the there's the ghosties, the landslide, and the adults, right? So now that we've got one of our adults under uh possession and God knows what the hell's going on with Mr. Anderson, don't even get me started on Mr. Anderson's whereabouts, okay? And Mr. Martin, God, if we do not talk about Mr. Martin, you talk about something that makes me just so sad is I can't. That's the only thing that I was I was I can't I can't handle Mr. Martin. But anyway, but now he is God knows where. So we're we're running out of out of adults to help us out. So what what are we gonna deal with? The principal? The principal's gonna help us with anything? Oh, god. It's useless.

SPEAKER_00

We needed that lev levity so badly, and that levity that oh god, that was so that sweet, sweet man.

SPEAKER_02

God bless. Well, like you so that means uh all we have left for the next season to help us with this whole thing is uh Sheriff Baxter, who, God, he who knows?

SPEAKER_00

And I'm still on the fence, y'all. I know I've been saying stuff and it's been wrong about Sheriff Baxter, but I'm sorry. I refuse to give up on something's up with him.

SPEAKER_02

I still think. So I'm like, so bring Kyle in. Kyle can be our other adult that helps us in the next season. Because it sure as hell ain't gonna be Dr. Hunter Price.

SPEAKER_00

Tell you that. Um just just because we love to shout out Alex Zahara, plays our friend, the principal, and does a very, very good job. You know, that I think some of the cast and characters that we get that are not always in it are kind of the unsung heroes. They really come in at the right moment and craft something to move us forward. And so, hats off to that, Mr. South. Uh, somebody said Sissei. Uh my girl Sissei. Yes, uh, the cornerstone in all uh caps. The one Mr. South showed Maddie. He said it's been there since before either one of them. Yeah. So is that cornerstone somewhere in our forest? Mm-hmm. That's a really good song. Oh no. Um, all right, at Rebel. I just want to know who set up the mirrors in the forest. Good question. Um, and how uh AVH, played by Michael Adam thewaite, by the way, and that monologue that was going back and forth between him and J Till, he was really good. So creepy, and he did such a good job. Uh, I was like, okay, sir. Not for nothing. When J Till took that bat and that laugh down the blocker.

SPEAKER_02

Jeez, listen, I mean this in the nicest, most admirable way. Jennifer Tilly is out of her fucking mind. I know. She's so good. Crazy. Yeah. She was terrifying, and I was like, oh, like, and I know she has it in her because, you know, the Chucky movies and all of that, but I'm just like, oh my god, Celia from Monsters Inc is going to kill everybody. Celia from Monsters Inc.

SPEAKER_00

That's the second reference. Because I said that. Oh yeah. I called the Forest the Monsters Inc. Called Forest Monsters Inc. Because the doors are all over the place. Yeah. Um, back to At Rebel. I loved how they ended their comments that this season was insane, and I've loved telling people about the show. Same Rebel. Like, people are always like enough already. I am insufferable about this show. Uh O underscore loverboy333 says the same as you, Amber. I don't know why, but I feel like that force isn't the full crossover. Um, and they also think it's underwhelming if it is. Um and they're wondering if the barrier around the school fully disappeared or if it just moved farther. That's a thought. So that I thought was interesting. And then, of course, they had a question, but then why did Simon end up in the crossover world falling through the puddle? And why did he forget who he was? I have so many theories and questions. And I would say we need a little bit more, y'all, on why this all happened to Simon. Why was he there in the first place? And maybe the writers are screaming at us right now, going, okay, dummies, like, didn't you pick up on X, Y, or Z? But I clearly didn't. Um, so I needed a lot of things.

SPEAKER_02

I don't I feel like a lot of people didn't. I the whole season, they did such a very good job of like breadcrumbing us the whole way where we were like, okay, it has something to do with his family. Okay, he was adopted, he's got a sister and his mother, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay, okay, okay. Okay, he's in the church and he's they they drew him on the walls. He has the vision share with white eyes. Okay, like, so there, like, there was all these things that were lining up that it was all going to come together, and we were gonna understand, like, why Simon and then it didn't. And I was just like, are is this just like until next time, like to be continued? Because if so, that sucks. Like, I want to know now. But I agree, I have a lot of question marks about Simon still, and I'm sure that just gives us more room to to like pull his story on with the next season. And you notice that we're saying the next season and not if there's a next season, because there's going to be a next season, like we are manifesting, remember? But still, it at the end of the season, I was like, uh, what the hell?

SPEAKER_00

Um, all right, I'm gonna rapid fire through a few because we do have a fun game that we're actually gonna play with you all. Um, so Trevor says, wait, wait, top characters. Yuri, he's my baby love. His actor overall, such a cool guy. Yes, Miles Elliott is such a cool guy. Finds the scar of his very interesting and relatable. Rhonda, um, her actor, of course, Sarah Yarkin, is amazing and her story was just so appealing. And for three, has to be Charlie, such a wonderfully portrayed character. He's allowed to have big emotions and be himself, and I love that. Um, uh, Adalyssa, I think they thinned the veil when the fire broke out, which they did mention about that because remember the smoke and all of that. Um, because Charlie said the smoke was in the ghost realm. Um, how did Van Height get into Maddie's mom? Yeah, I'd like to know that too. When could he have jumped specifically? Did he go into the forest and then into the hospital? Mm-hmm. Like Maddie's dad. So many questions. Yes, Alyssa. Amber thinks the same. Um, Miss Bingaling, you definitely have a very cool handle, by the way. Uh, first of all, that Wally and Maddie reunion fed my soul. Yes. I agree. We talked about the sexy. I like that that was not sexy at all. Yes, they shared that kiss, but it was just so much love and that they were portraying. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Quick sidebar the finale, the cinematography, there were so many beautiful shots in the finale. That moment with like the lens flare, uh, the slow motion, and the music is what also helped make that scene so emotional and beautiful. But also the moment when Simon and Maddie fall through the door in the blackness, that shot is gorgeous. It is so captivating to watch. There was a lot of shots in the finale that I was just like, oh wow, like we're really going like cinematic level of shots here. It was incredible.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she says a lot of the same things that you have mentioned, um, but her ending is the second the camera focused on Maddie's mom washing the damn butcher knife, I said, that's not her. Okay. Esperanza, how is Simon connected to it all? We just said that. Team, how is Simon connected to everything for sure? No. Can they travel anywhere or just anywhere inside Split River? Good question. That's a good question. Yeah. Uh, do we think if Van Height's ring is destroyed, it destroys his ability to freely travel and inhabit bodies? There's a lot of Harry Potter references, like that's a whore crux type of situation. The mirrors, the mirrors of Air Set. But I think there's some things that make me think someone on there is a Harry Potter fan.

SPEAKER_02

She did say one thing at the very end where she says, uh, why haven't Don and Janet cross-crossed? Is it because they're missing their keys? I do think that that's something that we need to pay attention to because there was that very intentional moment where Wally put the ball down before he went into the door. Yes. And when Maddie was leaving, her key glowed. Mm-hmm. So, like, do they need to have their keys to get out? Like, so I think that's a very important detail.

SPEAKER_00

He still has her necklace, too. So does it does and somebody said it. I'm so sorry, I don't remember who it was, but somebody said, Will that power, if you will, or the scar power, the light, the whatever, will that transfer if you've taken it through the scar? Who knows? Right. Um, Esperanza ends with how could Ralph tell the future? I don't know. That's another good question. That's another good mission. That needs to come back. All right, Carly. Um, yes, I was also thinking that about Ralph. See, we love a community. Um, he put Mr. Martin in front of the bus, he put all the kids in the library, he didn't want them to be alone. And also, Carly's with you. What happened to Mr. Martin?

SPEAKER_02

What happened to Mr. Martin? Now, listen, there were many moments in the finale that were beautiful and sweet. In general, it was such an intense episode. But when Mr. Martin said, Go, I'm staying with my friend, I started to cry. Like, cause I was just like, Oh god, like, cause is he trapped? Can he get him and Ralph out of there? Is there a door for them to go through? Like, I need to know Mr.

SPEAKER_00

Martin's fate. Like, please, God. So much. Uh, one of our very favorite fangirlies, Milo's underscore love. Absolutely love this season. Says, uh, touched me more than the first two. I gotta shout out some of my favorite characters. So, Simon. Uh, Spencer had me laughing so hard at some points, and they love the development and maturity his character has grown into totally. They know what's up, they love Nicole. Nicole as well, had some great moments, and of course, Wally, he always has my heart. His selflessness this season was remarkable. Um, and I I agree with that again. Um, I think the writers and producers did an amazing job this season with all the set storylines, music. I hope we get a season four. Yes, all of us think the same thing. We're just saying it's happening, we're just speaking it into existence. Um, and last but not least, they'd say Maddie, um, because Peyton is one of a kind. Watching her in this role is unbelievable. They end with so much more to say, but I'll leave it at that. I we get you. We understand that. Um, Dakota Star Anderson. Shouts out to you, my dear. What else does Roger the Janitor Roger South, that is, the janitor know? I agree.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you for that because I didn't know that uh his name was Roger South. I did not know that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, so Dakota Starr Anderson, yeah. What else does Roger South know? I'm with you. Um will Sandra be able to see ghosts? I don't know. Sh there uh she's not Sandra anymore, so who knows? Um if if it's Van Heyt, they should. Does Maddie and Van Height both have master keys? What does Maddie's dad know? Yep. Uh Jay Deciders, I'm curious about the doors in the forest and what they're supposed to be. Since we see the door for Maddie and Simon appear and disappear, I wonder why the other doors stay. And if there are also memories like the Mirrors or if they have a different significance. Ooh, that's a good question, too. That's a good question. We should think on that one for sure. Um, okay, so next, Split River Society. Y'all, if you're not going on TikTok and following Split River Society, you should. They are amazing. They wrote an entire paper for their school on um school spirits, and um they actually posted it and you can read it. So you should because it's very cool. Um they love the season, character development, great. Another vote for Xavier and his arc, by the way. Um, and the dynamic with Maddie. Very proud of themselves because they predicted that the ghosts would be able to leave the school. Is that I wanted to say that because aren't you so proud when something happens and you're like, I knew it? Yeah, you have like 13 theories, and then if I as long as I get one, I'm like, I knew it. Um, and again, talking about uh if they get to go to their families because they also really loved Maddie and her dad reuniting. Uh Maddie Tika, I also can't help but to absolutely ugly cry over Maddie and Simon's reunion. So I think we hit everybody, did we not? Everybody, Maddie and Simon's reunion teary, Maddie and her dad's reunion teary, Maddie and Wally Teary. So yes, those all kind of got us for sure. And Mr. Martin, Teary, Mr. Martin, we will not miss the worst. I promise. Okay. And last but not least, to wrap all this up before we get into our fun little game, we're gonna end with our girl Velu. Velu, we love you. You know this. She's the best. That's my twin. Because we have uh matching Wally Clark dress. That's true, that's true. Because Paramount Plus can't get their shit together yet. Come on, Paramount Plus. All right, Velo says, Um, I think it's just a great way to end this. I'm not good at doing theories or things like that, but I just want to mention how much I love this show, every character, every story, every song, all the writers, cast and crew behind it all. This show truly means a lot to me. It helps me understand so many things about myself, about grief and healing, and I couldn't be more grateful for having this piece of media in my life. Everyone who knows me knows at least a little bit about this show because I never shut up about it, and I never will. I'm so glad to share this love with people like you guys. Velu, now we're tearing for you. We love you.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's so sweet.

SPEAKER_00

I think I can speak for everyone we mentioned to say that is kind of how we all feel about this show. It it hits us all on different levels, but it hits us deeply, it hits us shallowly, it hits us, you know, just so fun. So, such a good, good show, right? Alright, are you ready, everybody, for the game that we're gonna play? Lambert, are you ready? Uh kind of. So we played a fun little game when we did our Milo episode, by the way. We have a Milo Mannheim episode. Go listen to it if you haven't. And uh in that Milo episode, we kind of fancasted him in some different movies from different eras. And we got a lot of people talking about this um online. And so we kind of wanted to do something like that for uh school spirits, and so we want to know a song that represents each character, and the twist, because you know school spirits always has to have a twist, is that song has to be specific and accurate to their time period.

SPEAKER_02

So if you are looking to song cast for Janet, it would need to be a song from the 1950s, just as an example. And reminders, if you do want to play along, Janet and Mr. Martin are from the 50s, Rhonda is from the 60s, Dawn and Yuri are from the 70s, Wally is from the 80s, Charlie is from the 90s, Quinn is from the 2000s, and all of our landside characters, I would say present day, whatever you feel you want to do.

SPEAKER_00

And we're also gonna need your help. A lot of our friends on TikTok are not of a certain age, and we appreciate your help for this uh current landside characters and what they'd like to listen to because uh we're not quite as versed in what's what the kids are up to these days.

SPEAKER_02

Full disclosure, I don't have songs picked for the landside characters because I don't think that I would pick songs that would be good. So I leave that to you, uh socials, what types of songs would fit our landside characters best. But I do have all of our ghosties.

SPEAKER_00

This could be lyric-driven or it could be vibe-driven, you know, based on the music. So yeah. Alright, we'll go first with Janet. We're gonna go in chronological order here. Uh, Janet from the 50s. So mine is actually a Broadway song that I chose for Janet, um, but it did come out in the 50s, and that is Rose's turn from Gypsy on Broadway. I love that song. I do love that song. But it is, it's essentially about it's my turn. I didn't get to do all these things, and I want to do all these things, and now that I can do all of these things, watch out, here I come. And I just kind of felt the energy of Janet in that.

SPEAKER_02

I could totally see that. I I picked a whole lot of shaking going on, kind of for a similar reason. Because I feel like in her life she had to be really reserved and she had to do what she was told, but I feel like she didn't want to. I feel like if she had it her way, she'd sneak out of the house and like go dancing and just like have fun. Like she'd feel like she wanted to cut loose, but she couldn't. She was so trapped and caged. So that's why I picked kind of a fun song for her.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, so Mr. Martin, your fave. Mine's a little on the nose, but it it just felt also like in vibe, it it reminded me of him. And it's that'll be the day by Buddy Holly, which is that I die, which is sort of on the nose, but the musicality of that just reminds me of his cute little, you know, demeanor and and outfit and everything.

SPEAKER_02

I kind of went with a similar uh reasoning because I chose at the hop, because I'm like, he's a dork, and uh, and I believe he was a dork in real life too, but he was also a teacher, and so his fun night would be at the hop. So I can see him just kind of like that's his vibe, you know. So I thought it'd be just kind of a more up-tempo dorky number, and I think at the hop would fit him.

SPEAKER_00

I just want you guys to know that this was really a lot of fun to do, by the way, to go back and kind of go through songs like um a Rhonda, your girl. Um, so from the 60s, I chose You Don't Own Me. That's Leslie Gore. Oh, it's so perfect. It is so Rhonda. If you have never heard it, because you I by the way, we weren't alive in the 60s either, everybody, just so you know. But um, You Don't Own Me, uh, Leslie Gore G-O-R-E. Check it out. You'll be like, oh, definitely.

SPEAKER_02

It's so her for like lyrics and vibe. Like, absolutely. Because here's the thing, I struggled with Rhonda a little bit because in the flashback they show us that she wasn't always this like moody, bitchy character. Like, she was hopeful and she was creative and she, you know, really had her future ahead of her. So I was trying to find something that was still a little bit moody and still a little bit deep, but also a little fun. So I chose Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles. I thought that was uh a kind of a good mix of that.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay. Um, all right, we're into the 70s. We have two people from the 70s actually. Uh so first is Dawn, and I chose this for vibe because you would think maybe like a female or something, but no. I chose I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Johnny Nash. I can see clearly now. It just feels like the brightest song in lyrics and whatnot, and it feels freeing as she now feels freeing. I don't know, it just reminded me of her.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, absolutely. I kind of went again with a very similar vibe. I chose Dancing Queen by Abba because I can just see her so good in the halls with her hands up and just ah, like I just absolutely, so that's why I picked that one.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, Yuri's also from the 70s. Yuri graduated the year I was born, 1977. Um, so I always say that I am as old as Star Wars and Space Mountain, so now I can say, and as Yuri graduated. Uh so I chose the Joker Steve Miller band. I don't think I know that song. Um, it is like it's basically a big stoner song. Um literally, I'm a midnight toker. You might you might okay. I know that song. Yeah. I'm a sinner. I'm a yeah. I really think it it really speaks to Zuri personally, but listen to the song after this, you'll see.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I wanted to go with something that was a little bit of that vibe, but I didn't want it to be like on the nose of Stoner. So I just did summer breeze because I feel like out of all of them, Yuri's the calm, cool, collected one. That's true. And when you see his scar, you understand why he feels like he needs to be. And so I chose Summer Breeze because I feel like in comparison to everybody else, he's just like summer breeze makes me feel bad. Yeah, I'm fair. That's fair. That's fair.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, okay. Our 80s king. This was hard, actually. I have two. I'm sorry. I chose two. Oh, you can, that's fine. I gave him Against All Odds, Phil Collins. Also, if you're familiar in a Gleek, it Darren Chris did a cover on Gleek of It. Um, on Gleek, on Glee of it. But essentially, Against All Odds, I'm doing everything. How can I just let her walk away, turn around and watch me cry? Like all of this stuff, and how he is gonna do everything he can to get this girl back. And I just felt like the desperation um of it. Like when you listen to the actual Phil Collins song, he there's a couple parts where he just lets the rasp really come into his voice to showcase that desperation of how much he needs this woman. And it's from Officer and a Gentleman, if you're of a certain age, it's from a movie.

SPEAKER_02

I like that you were like, I'm gonna follow his arc and his story and all of that. Mine was just vibes. So first I chose Maneater by um Holland Oates. Okay, I think it's perfect. I think it's perfect. Uh, and then I also chose I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston because I think he'd tear that up. I think he would absolutely tear it up.

SPEAKER_00

Because he danced in that and Prompact as Ben.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Mm-hmm. There you are. Just for you. That was for you.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Okay. Okay, Charlie was hard because obviously the first thing I went to was Dave Matthews Band, because that was the song that was in the episode. But I said, no, no, I'm gonna challenge myself on this one. And so I went through some of the 90s songs, and then I thought, what would be the essence of Charlie? And I was like, he would love a pop girly. Like, secretly, he would love a pop girly. So I chose fantasy, Mariah Carey, and I just saw him laughing. I almost chose fantasy. Shout out, Nick. I know you would like what we're saying.

SPEAKER_02

I could totally see Charlie doing that. Yeah. Um I went with Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden because I think uh I think we're on two opposite ends here. Because I'm thinking more of the of the vulnerable side of him where he like wants to be loved and he wants to be taken care of. Truly Madly Deeply is such a uh a sweet love song, but it's kind of more subdued, and I think that that's a Charlie vibe.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so Quinn. Quinn is in the is then the 2000s, and I chose Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. I'm not sure I know how that song goes. You you've heard it before. I I think you would understand by the lyrics, but also it's got a really cool bass line, it's got a really cool musicality to it, and so I think Quinn would know that from their time in band, obviously. They would like some, you know, I don't know about complex, but a little bit more deep musicality to um their songs. But basically, the song uh was written by uh Jack White about, you know, fame and all that stuff, but it's about not fitting in and sort of about like what are the expectations, and so I kind of felt like that really, you know. I represented the Quinn.

SPEAKER_02

I find it very interesting that I feel like you and I both kind of looked at these songs in very similar ways, and we did consider the character pieces because I was like, I was in band in the 2000s, so I was like, what was I listening to? And what did I think was so great and so popular? And hey, there Delilah uh was pretty popular. I remember Hey, there Delilah was a really popular song in our band kid community, but also again, it's a song about finding yourself, it's about finding yourself in another person, um, it's about trying to help another person find their identity. So that's why I picked it for Quinn. I thought it would be a pretty good one for their journey. But when it comes to landside characters, again, I've got nothing. So I leave it to our social media fangirls to give us their best um song selections for any landside characters.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. I second that emotion. Uh, but also I do have ones for the landside characters that I did my best on. So I'm gonna roll right through mine really quick so they they can like be like, oh my word, Becky, come on. Um so Xavier is I Love You, I'm sorry by Gracie Abrams, because that's all Xavier does is say, I'm so sorry, everything for everything. Guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt. Fair. Um, not surprising, my three ladies, my three gorgeous queens of the landside, get Taylor Swift songs because that's about all I know right now.

SPEAKER_02

But didn't you have some um expertise?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, ma'am. I ran this through Fangirl Kelly, who is our Resident Swifty uh Swifty episode to come with Fangirl Kelly, don't you worry. Um, but so Maddie gets the fate of Ophelia, and I feel that that's really on the nose for sure. Um, and it's actually about how Travis saved her, I believe. And so, like, and she's like pledge allegiance to the team, and I was like, this is perfect, this is perfect, this is perfect. Yeah. Um, and then Claire gets ready for it. Uh, that was the first thing I thought of when we were gonna do this game. The first person I thought of was Claire, and the first song I thought of was ready for it. The bass line, the reputation, you know, all of that to me says 1,000% Claire. Um and Nicole got look what you made me do, because I felt like that really represented it's still got the edge that it should, um, because she's got the edge, but it is because she came into the edge, right? And you know, it's because everybody treated her like shit sometimes. Claire and Nicole, always forever. And then Simon, I did ordinary by Alex Warren. Okay. I kind of thought that was sort of in song and in vibe was him. So, kids, tell us we're wrong, tell us what's better, please, please, please. But those are the ones that I came up with. That's better than I did. I literally have blank. So, to end this really fast, uh, I want us to just give our biggest theory for season four, because again, speaking it into existence. Can I go first? Go for it. Okay, so my biggest theory is this when Simon and Maddie are in the mirror, and you know, they're sitting there at Halloween, if you recall, and mom's in the kitchen. Um, Maddie kind of snaps too and realizes that she's sort of in this vision and then decides to try to get Simon out, right? And when she snaps too, it's because she hears Wally, right? And she says, Mom, like she's testing it out, and her mother says, Yeah, hon. And she goes, Never mind. So you can alter those memories, is what I got from that. And what I got from that is that is how our characters that are stuck over there are gonna help to get what's going on out there. And it could be, you know, I'm gonna oversimplify it, but just for something like it could be as simple as someone, you know, leaving a key under a rock that someone's gonna find 30 years later because they altered it and they were like, you gotta go into this mirror and you gotta go. And that's how our friends in the forest are gonna be able to help because they'll be able to. Now, how are they gonna get that communication? I'm not sure yet, but that's what I think is that we're gonna alter some time to be able to help things in the future to solve this.

SPEAKER_02

That is such a wild theory, but I love it because again, there's a reason that these things have been written. So, why did we establish these rules? Because they need to come into play at some point. So I think it's very feasible. Um, I don't have theories just yet. I have a couple things that I noticed that I'm wondering if they are breadcrumbs. And one thing that I did notice, and I don't see this a lot so far, the entire time that Maddie was in the woods, she was in her clothes when she was dead.

SPEAKER_00

You are so right. And a lot of people caught that too on social media. Okay, yeah, good.

SPEAKER_02

Because I was like, what does that mean? What does that signify? That has to mean something, right? Is it just because the universe is recognizing her as dead because she's there and that's what she was in when she was quote dead before? I don't know. But that was an intentional choice, right? And I want to know, was that a breadcrumb? So that's first thing. The second thing is also in the uh in the memory with uh Simon and Maddie watching the movie on Halloween. Sandra is noticeably different, like physically, and it makes sense because at longest it's been maybe a couple years ago, maybe it was last year, two years ago, whatever. It's fairly recent because Simon and Maddie are still teenagers. Um so I was like, well, maybe it was before Maddie's dad died. Nope, that doesn't make sense because her dad died when she was a kid. Maybe it was before the alcoholism really took over, maybe that happened in the last couple years. I don't know. So she looks visibly different. She's dressed uh nicer, her hair is styled, she looks healthy, like she's taken care of herself. Normally, Sandra's hair is all tawny, pulled in a ponytail, she's wearing a puffer vest like most of the time. The then at the very end, the moment that Sandra was on screen, the moment I said that's Van Height, immediately I knew. Yes, the knife, but even before that. Yes, the reflection, way before that, the moment we saw Sandra, I knew it was Van Height because she looked the way she did in the memory. Now, I don't know if the memory was just to establish that Sandra at one point looked healthy and took care of herself, and so her looking healthy and taking care of herself at the end is a clue to us that that's not really Sandra. It could just be as simple as that. Or those two things can be connected. Like, did Van Height only know that Sand, like that's the only way he knows Sandra is from the memories? So, like, has Van Height been watching these memories? And so he knows that that's what Sandra looked like, and so when he took over her, he was like, Well, she's got this is what this is how Maddie would expect her to look, so I have to do it this way. You know what I mean? There's something weird about that choice, and I wonder if it's a bread crumb.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out to me again, by the way. I'm taking the win on the fact that from season one I said, someone of our adults has to have gone to school with one of these ghosties. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And that was proven. And thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It was Charlie. Katani, by the way, who I read. Katani is his mother's maiden name. Nick's mother's maiden name. I loved that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I loved that. I love that he shared that. That was really cool.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, y'all. So we're coming to a close on school spirits. I don't know about you, but I'm sad because I need to always be in Split River, and it's gonna be a minute before we get to go back there. But I've had a really fun time uh talking about it. I have a feeling I'm not gonna stop still. You're gonna get a random voice memo, you know, in September, and I'm gonna be talking about what do you think about this? And you're gonna be like, oh my word, give it up.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks again, everybody, for all of your comments and theories. We're so excited to talk all about them.

SPEAKER_00

We hope that we did you all proud by getting a chance to sort of talk to you one-sided. We had a really good time. The amount of people that say, I have no one to talk to about this, we are here. Again, you want to be that person randomly in September that sends us a DM about something you remembered? Great, do it. We'll talk to you. Sounds great to us. Um, so Amber, I love you. I love Wally Clark, and I love Milo Manheim.

SPEAKER_02

And I love you, I love you back. I love Mr. Martin. Yes, you do. And I love Milo Manheim. Bye, everyone. Bye.
