'It Is Finished' was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither. This great song is about war, because the cross of Jesus was about war, a war of cosmic proportions...the war of the ages. This was a war with a clear objective: freedom for every soul since the Garden of Eden. It was a war fought on earth where mankind could see it, and a war fought in the unseen world, from the heavens to the very pit of hell.
Gloria Gaither's insight when writing the lyrics to this great song observed that the characters and authorities of the conflict were clearly defined. If there ever was a holy war, a righteous cause...this was it. And each of us had major stakes in this war's outcome.
'It Is Finished' is ONE of the songs released from a project entitled 'The Church Triumphant' and was Produced by Ronn Huff and Bob MacKenzie and was Arranged by Ronn Huff. The recordings were made with the Oklahoma Baptist Festival Choir at MartinSound in Alhambra, California and the Orchestra at Music Centre in Wembly, England.
Of all the declarations of freedom like the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights, none has been written so eloquently or at such great cost in bloodshed as the one spoken in three words from an old rugged cross: IT IS FINISHED!
