Hey guys, welcome to the Hurts Podcast. I'm Peyton Hurt, and if you guys are watching on YouTube, you guys will see that this week Kelsey is not in the episode. Unfortunately, she's not feeling well. So we're going to be doing something a little different. We're going to break up this into two separate parts. So the title of the episode is insecurities. So I'm going to be going into more of the insecurities of our abilities or if that's at work. So yeah, and Kelsey is going to be going into the pressure that society puts insecurities like on our body and things like that in today's society as well. So again, just me this episode. So thank you guys for bearing with us this week. So before we get started, diving into scripture and getting into the episode, kind of wanted to talk about our week and our weekend. We had pickleball, and it was also very hot and humid this week. So didn't really do much outside. So yeah, that was that was something we did. But yeah, pickleball. And then this weekend we helped move a family member. We had some friends over this weekend. We hosted, and then yesterday we spent some time with some family, church, of course. And yeah, so it was a good weekend, very busy. But yeah, it was fun, fun and enjoyable. So yeah, so getting into this, uh, we're gonna start in Exodus three and four. Uh we have a few verses. So yeah, again, I wanted to talk about insecurities or abilities at work or in life. So we're gonna look at Moses here in Exodus. So if we look at Exodus 3 uh, it says, But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? Okay, so again, if you don't know what's going on, um, Moses is leading the Israelites out of Egypt. They were slaves, and Moses is doubting himself in this, right? We see Moses is saying, Who am I? Right? So Moses doesn't think that he's worthy. He thinks that that someone else has uh uh should have the glory. So um continuing that in verse 12, it says, and God said, I will be with you, and this this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you. So again, God kind of um affirms Moses that that he is calling him to uh bring the Israelites out of Egypt. So so yeah, so again, Moses is is doubting himself. He's insecure about um, you know, can he really do this? Is he really strong enough to bring uh these people away from Pharaoh, away from slavery? Uh so okay, so the next verse, we're gonna stay in Exodus actually. So Exodus 4, verse 10, we see another sense of insecurity from Moses. Moses said to the Lord, Pardon your servant, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue. So if you don't know, Moses was, again, he was not a great speaker. Uh again, we see that I am slow of speech and tongue. Um, but we see that as we continue, so again, Moses is doubting himself because of his abilities, right? Uh we can tend to be insecure with our abilities, but having faith and trusting in God and our weaknesses, we are able to overcome anything. And we see that um and and and God kind of affirms Moses uh because he doesn't deny Moses' weaknesses, but he promised his presence. So if we continue in verse 12, it says, um, sorry, verses 11 and 12. The Lord said to him, Who gave human beings their mouths, who makes them deaf or mute, who gives them sight or makes them blind? It is not I, the Lord. Now go, I will help you speak and will teach you what to say. So again, I want to focus in on verse 12. Now go, I will help you speak and teach you what to say. So again, recapping all this, Moses has a sense of doubt. He doesn't think that he's worthy. He's insecure about, you know, is it really me that's going to do this? Same thing for his speech, right? Um, you know, Moses is feels incapable because he's leading all these people and he's not a great speaker, right? So again, uh I think it's awesome that that God didn't deny Moses' weaknesses, kind of like us, right? Like we have weaknesses. We all have a weakness, right? But in that weakness, we need to trust in God. Again, I think I've talked about this in prior episodes. Something that I can kind of relate to my life is uh in high school, I wasn't somebody that was very like outgoing. Um, I didn't really like to, I did not like to speak uh in front of people or in public. Um and you know, I would say that was a weakness of mine, and and I still think it is, but I every time, uh, because being a part-time young adults pastor, I have the ability to um speak, right? And and teach. So uh every time I do that, I get to trust in God, and and it's an amazing experiment, experience because I cannot do it myself. So um yeah. So uh in that, I had some uh some other scripture. There's gonna be a lot of scripture in this. Uh, I think it's awesome to back it up and kind of look back to this because insecurities are very common, especially uh today. But I I think uh lack of confidence, um, and I'll get into that more because I have personal stories of of lack of confidence for myself, so and my abilities sometimes. Okay, so um I wanted to touch on um again, I know Kelsey's gonna talk about this, but this is more of like the insecurities of how how meaningful we are to God. Like God created us so beautifully and and created us perfectly in his image. So um I wanted to read Psalm 139, verse 14. It said, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. So God makes no mistakes, right? God loves us and God created us in his image. So we are beautifully made. Um the next verse I wanted to share was Ephesians 2.10. For we are God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. So again, we are God's handiwork. We are created in Christ Jesus. What a comforting feeling that the creator of the universe hand created us and specially made us with our abilities, with our gifts. Um yeah, it's just really an awesome feeling, and I and I I it gives me comfort. So, yeah, so those are some verses that I wanted to share. Um, and as we continue to move on, um, I want you guys to kind of think about this question. Are you insecure because you're seeking validation from people instead of God? Ask yourself that question. I'm gonna I'm gonna read it again. Are you insecure because you're seeking validation from people instead of God? So um in Galatians 110 kind of goes into uh what it's like to maybe not what it's like, but the answer to kind of this question. So Galatians 5, I need to flip over to it real quick. Okay, Galatians 110 says, Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Okay, I love that verse, right? Because I think it can be easy to try to please people, right? We don't want people being upset with us, we don't want people being angry with us. But to try to win the approval of a human, again, all we need is the approval of God, right? If you're insecure in your abilities at work, right? It doesn't matter what people say about your abilities, right? As long as you are working to the best of your ability as hard as you can, you're working for the Lord and doing the mission that God has placed you in, right? That's the most important mission of all. It's not about how well, like how good your abilities are, right, at your work. It's about making a difference and shining a light at the place that you're at. Right? Obviously, we want to try the best that we can and learn the most that we can, right? Because we are told to um work like we're working for the Lord at our jobs. So yeah, kind of kind of uh think about that verse, think about the question I asked, and think about am I trying to please people? Am I insecure because I need validation from humans? Um, yeah, and I really hope that helps. So, okay, moving on. Um here are so the next thing I wanted to kind of talk about, uh, this can be another thing that people can be insecure in. Um, again, this is I'm talking about the abilities aspect. Um, but I think this is gonna be focused more towards uh the younger people of the faith, but also I guess young in age as well. Um so if we look at Jeremiah 1, verses 6 through 8, we see the title of this text is The Call of Jeremiah. Okay, so if we start in verse 6, Sovereign Lord, I said, I do not know how to speak, I am too young, but the Lord said to me, Do not say I am too young. You must go to everyone. I send to you, I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you, declares the Lord. Okay, so I just want to touch on that. If you are insecure, say you are fresh out of college, right? Maybe you graduated, maybe you're starting a new job and you're still, you're still young, right? Or maybe, maybe you're a bit older and you're starting a new job, something that you've never done before, right? You're you're gonna be new, right? And it's gonna be, you're gonna be insecure in the work that you do, right? You're still learning that job. But so in this, Jeremiah is being called by the Lord, but he is insecure in himself because of his age, right? So he thinks that I do not know how to speak because I am too young. And I think it's awesome because the common theme in these verses is these people have doubt and are insecure in their abilities, but God always reaffirms them that it's possible through him, right? We look at his response in verse 7. But the Lord said to me, Do not say I am too young. You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you, declares the Lord. So again, the Lord is there, he's present, right? So in those, in those insecurities, if that's being young, that's in your job, right? We saw some examples of of people being insecure in the Bible, right? It's it's it's so easy to do that. And I kind of want to share some personal stories in my life of where I can be insecure in my workplace. And yeah, I mean, it's still current. So again, if you guys don't know, I am a uh my full-time job is I'm a union carpenter. My part-time job is I'm the young adults pastor at the church I go to. So um, you know, kind of being in the trades and in construction, um, you know, if you continue to hear like uh negative comments, you you kind of start to believe those, right? And you kind of lose confidence. Uh I think there's a biblical teaching of like discipline, but also like encouragement. So in the trades, kind of, you know, there's not very many times that you're told that you're doing a good job, right? Um, and I think that I kind of had the mindset of like I started to question my abilities. Like, am I am I really doing this right? Like, am I doing a good job? Am I going too fast? Am I going too slow? But so I I get insecure in in my abilities sometimes, but I need to remember that that God had gifted me with the ability to be handy, right? Like I'm able to do that, but also my my main mission is the ministry at work, right? Like making a difference, being a light, standing out from other people and teaching people the love of Jesus through that. So the enemy works, the enemy is real, and he is going to try to tear you and rip you down uh with insecurities. He's gonna try to diminish your worth in your workplace, in your family, um, and again in your abilities at work, um, and even your weaknesses, right? So stay strong, look back to the scriptures, um, and be faithful and continue to turn your turn to Christ. Um another story to kind of relate to that um is I think I shared it a few episodes back. Um, but sometimes I I'm insecure about my teaching, right? Uh my speaking. Sorry, not my teaching, but my speaking. You know, I I I am a slow processor. Um it takes a while sometimes for me to get my words out. And sometimes I kind of feel like Moses. Um, not that I'm I'm slow to speech, but sometimes I feel like I'm not the best with my words and speaking. And the enemy really pushes hard in on that and and makes me insecure in that, right? Like I feel like I may not be the best, but I know that God has called me to that and that I can trust in the Lord and through that, and that he will continue to get me through that um and speak through me as long as I have faith and trust in him and a lot and and and allow that. So um yeah, those are just some personal, and I hope you guys can relate to that. And I hope that guy, I hope that really helps um to help you guys to to relate and build that relationship. So yeah, um, as I continue, I think that kind of wraps it up for insecurities with your abilities, with weaknesses, um, and in your workplace. You know, this life is is difficult. And stay strong, look to the scriptures, look to the word, and continue to pray throughout the day. So thank you guys for listening. Again, next week is going to be part two. We're doing a part two, we're doing two part series, uh, and Kelsey's going to be talking about again insecurity. So thank you guys for listening and have a good week, guys.
