Welcome to Step Out Sis, a podcast where we grow, heal, and walk confidently in God's calling. I am your host, Sharon, and I'm here to encourage you to step boldly into the purpose God has for your life. Last week on Step Out Sis, we talked about stepping out of the crowd and finding your tribe. We explored how growth begins when we stop conforming and start trusting God with who He's calling us to be. And today, we're building on that foundation because before we can fully step out, we have to talk about something many of us try to hide: our brokenness. On today's episode, we're talking about the beauty in our brokenness and how God uses the very places we think disqualify us to reflect his light and his glory. I've had to learn how to stand firm in who I am and whose I am, especially in a world shaped by social media. A world that measures worth by how many likes you get, how many views you have, and how many followers are watching. But before social media, before artificial applause, God knew us. He knew us before we were even formed in our mother's womb. And I'll be honest with you, sis, I am still a work in progress. I still struggle in areas of acceptance and comparison. But God Himself continues to work on me. He continues to love me. He continues to show me grace and favor while he's still shaping me. And I know this truth. And if I were honest, many of us have felt this deeply, quietly comparing, silently shrinking, wondering if we're enough. And when we don't measure up, it's easy to feel less than, unattractive, unworthy, even invisible. And let's be real, as women, especially black women, we are faced with added layers of pressure. We compare ourselves to others, and when we feel like we don't meet society standards, that comparison then can lead to anxiety, depression, and deep insecurities. But sis, here's the truth. There is beauty in your brokenness, your cracks, your scars, your stories. They are not marks of shame, but they are the very places where God's light floods in and shines through just like light through broken glass. One of my favorite scriptures is Psalms 139, verse 14, and it says, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. That means you. Yes, you, there is no one else like you, and that alone is reason to celebrate your beauty. Every part, every crack, every story. What truly helped me with this is when I stopped measuring myself by society's measuring tools. Society tells us our worth is based upon how much money we got in our bank account, how many likes or followers you have, or other people's opinions. But God doesn't measure us that way. God looks at the heart. Now listen, sis, there is nothing wrong with presenting yourself well, doing your hair, wearing your makeup, and dressing in a way that makes you feel confident. You know, God wants you to be proud of what he created. The problem comes when we rely on those things for our self-worth. Because looks, beauty, and even our bodies can change. But what's in the heart, that's what truly matters. So we must be intentional about doing the inner work, taking care of our hearts, our souls, our minds. And if I can be transparent, one of my biggest struggles has been comparison. I have to remind myself daily that comparison is a trick of the enemy designed to keep me stuck in self-doubt. Now let me tell you how God works. While preparing this episode, I came across a song on TikTok called Something Big by Delena Hope. It caught my attention, so I went over to Apple Music to listen to the full song. As I was there, I noticed some of her other music, and one song in particular just stopped me in my tracks. It was called God of My Broken Pieces. And sis, when I tell you that song spoke directly to my heart. The song's about how God can take our broken pieces, our flaws, our doubts, our imperfections, and still use them for his glory. And in that moment, it was confirmation from God because while starting this podcast, I found myself comparing, wondering, am I good enough? Will anyone even listen? Does my voice really matter? But that song reminded me of something so important. God doesn't need me to be perfect, He just needs me to be obedient. He can use my brokenness, he can use my imperfections, and he can use my story. All I have to do is trust him and keep saying yes. Because God's promises for you and for me, they're personal. No one can compare to the masterpiece God is creating in you and in me. So don't wait until you feel fixed or perfect to let your light shine. Let your light shine now in every crack, every scar, every story. Be present, be faithful, be real, be the authentic you God created you to be. This reminds me of the woman at the well. The Bible says she went to the well in the middle of the day, probably to avoid judgment, whispers, and shame. She carried broken relationships and deep wounds. But Jesus met her right there. He didn't shame her, he didn't reject her, he offered her living water, healing, wholeness, and a new beginning. And her broken story became a testimony that led others to believe. And your story doesn't end in shame, it ends in purpose. I encourage you, sis, don't sit on your testimony. Share your story. Your testimony has power to be someone else's breakthrough. Now healing, it isn't meant to happen alone. Sometimes we pour and we pour and we pour into people until we are empty. But Galatians 6 and 2 reminds us to bear one another's burdens. Sometimes we're the ones pouring out, and sometimes we need to be poured into. Now sis, if your wounds feel too heavy, let me say this clearly. God works through those resources too, and there is no shame in healing. Let's pause for a moment and reflect. Because growth happens when we don't just hear the word, but allow it to search our hearts. Is there something you haven't taken to God for healing? What are you holding on to and why? What could your life look like if you released it into God's hands? Healing begins with honesty. Your brokenness is beautiful because it's real and God's light is in you. So go ahead with your beautiful, imperfect self, let your light shine. Thank you for joining me on Step Out Sis. If today's episode blessed you, encouraged you, please share and follow so you don't miss what God is doing next. And with that, I will see you all next week right here on Step Out Sis.
