Welcome to Step Out Sis, the podcast where we grow healed and walk confidently in God's calling. I am your host, Sharon, and I'm here to encourage you to step boldly into the purpose God has for your life. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, sis. Today, we honor a man who walked in faith and courage even when the path ahead wasn't clear. Dr. King didn't see everything come to pass in his lifetime, but he was still faithful to the vision God placed in him. And as I reflect on his legacy, God placed something on my heart I couldn't keep to myself. It was a realization about distractions and dreams. So let me ask you something. You know that thing you've been praying about? That thing that keeps coming back to you even when life gets busy, even when you try to push it to the back of your mind? Yes, sis, that thing, that's what we are talking about today. Sis, you're carrying something meaningful, a dream, a calling, a vision. And it's not about attention or applause. It's about purpose. God doesn't waste seed, so if he planted something in you, it was intentional. Habakkuk 2 verse 2 and 3 reminds us to write the vision and make it plain. Not to rush it, not to force it, but trust the process. That means this wasn't accidental. God planted it on purpose in you. Don't let anything uproot it. And here's what God showed me. The enemy doesn't really want you. He wants what's in you, your gift, your purpose, your obedience. And if the enemy can't destroy you, he'll distract you. The enemy doesn't waste time distracting people who aren't a threat. And that's when God brought Rahab to my mind. And what stood out to me about Rahab, she didn't wait until everything made sense. She didn't wait until the walls fell. She didn't wait until her circumstances changed. She stayed focused, she protected the promise, and she trusted God before she saw the outcome. And maybe that's where you are, sis, carrying something God gave you before the breakthrough shows up. You're not behind, you are not late, and you are in a season of preparation. Now let's talk about how distractions actually show up in real life. Distractions often look small and harmless, scrolling a little too long on social media, saying yes when you should have said no, carrying family stress that isn't yours to hold, negative thoughts on repeat. Sis, I had to step away from Facebook for a season just so I could hear God clearly again. And that wasn't punishment, it was protection. So here's the question worth asking. What's been pulling your focus lately? Here's something else I've learned. Not every distraction is sinful. Some are just misplaced priorities. Even good things can crowd out the god things. Unforgiveness can distract you. Drama can distract you. Overcommitting can distract you. Everything isn't your assignment, every conversation doesn't need your energy, and every call doesn't need a response. Sometimes obedience looks like, not right now, not this time, not at the cost of my peace. And sometimes the biggest distraction isn't around us, it's inside us. Thoughts like, am I ready? Am I qualified? Why would God choose me? I'll be honest, sis. There were moments I questioned whether I should even start this podcast. I told myself I needed to know more, be more, have everything figured out first. But God didn't ask me to be perfect. He asked me to be obedient. And maybe that's where you are too. Waiting until you feel ready. Waiting until things slow down. Waiting until you feel qualified. But sis, obedience doesn't require perfection. God isn't looking for perfect, he's looking for willing. Philippians 4 and 13 reminds us that we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. Not because we're strong, but because He is. Now here's the part I really want you to hear. Once you recognize distraction for what it is, everything shifts. You stop reacting, you start choosing, you begin to say, I'm focused this time, I'm guarding what God gave me. Sis, it's no longer waiting season, it's birthing season. Whether you're trying to start a business, go back to school, launch a nonprofit, whatever it may be, clear the clutter, protect the seed, move forward. Some of you have been carrying a dream God gave you years ago. You tried to ignore it, you tried to silence it, but it keeps resurfacing because it's time. God doesn't remind you of a dream he doesn't intend to deliver. Now, sis, birthing doesn't always look like starting a business or a podcast. Sometimes it's birthing boundaries, healing, confidence, or the courage to finally move forward. Whatever it may be, birth it. Before we wrap up, I want to leave you with a few reflection questions. You can journal them, pray over them, or just sit with them this week. What have I been allowing to distract me from what God placed in my heart? Is there something I need to release so I can move forward? What is one intentional step I can take this week even if I don't see the whole staircase? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase. So today, I encourage you to stop second guessing what God gave you and take the next small step forward. You don't have to see the whole picture, just be faithful with what is in front of you. Sis, if this episode spoke to you, don't keep it to yourself. Share this episode with a sister who has been sitting on a dream. And make sure you follow Step Out Sis so you don't miss what God is doing next. I'll see you next week right here on Step Out Sis.
