Welcome to Step Out Sis, the podcast where we grow, heal, and walk confidently in God's calling. I am your host, Sharon, and I'm here to encourage you to step boldly into the purpose God has for your life. Today's episode might just be the deep exhale you didn't know you needed, because today we're talking about rest, not just sleep, not just a weekend off, but real rest, the kind that reaches your soul, the kind only Jesus can give. Last year was full for me. My calendar stayed busy, my phone stayed buzzing, and my body stayed tired. Between work, responsibilities, church, community, and trying to take care of my health, I was juggling more than I should have been. And if I'm honest, I didn't feel like my best self. One thing I realized I needed more of was rest. I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, but this year my desire is simple. I want to show up better, healthier, more focused, less overwhelmed, and I want to operate from a full cup, not a dehydrated one. Let me ask you this, sis. Have you been showing up for everyone else while secretly running on fumes? You keep pushing, you keep giving, you keep smiling, but inside you're saying, God, I'm tired. Not just tired in your body, tired in your mind, your spirit, your heart. If that's you, you're in the right place. Hear me clearly. You have permission to pause, to breathe, to rest, to simply be. Some weeks I sit down to work on content for this podcast, and the words flow like water. Other times, crickets, nothing, dry. And I've realized it's not that God isn't speaking, it's that I've been too busy, too overwhelmed, too empty to hear him. And God has been waiting, gently, patiently, inviting me to slow down. Have you ever been so mentally drained that someone is talking to you? It could be your husband, your child, your co-worker, or your sister friend, and their words are just bouncing around in your head. Then they say, What do you think? And you're thinking, wait, what? And not because you don't care, but because you have nothing left to give in that moment. Your cup is empty. Take care of yourself. Sometimes it's simple as getting something to eat, drinking water, laying down for 20 minutes, turning your phone off, letting your soul catch up. This isn't just about self-care, this is soul care. Even Jesus stepped away from the crowd. In Mark the 6th chapter in the 31st verse, he told the disciples, Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. He didn't say push through, he said, Come with me and rest. So why do we think we're supposed to keep grinding while we're falling apart? Rest is not weakness, it's wisdom, and it's not just good advice, it's a holy invitation. Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11, 28. You don't need a retreat. You don't need a perfectly quiet house. You just need intentional moments with God right where you are. Here are 10 simple ways to begin refilling your spirit. Number one, open your Bible, even if it's just one verse, keep it visible, and let God's word stay in front of you. Number two, talk to God throughout your day while you're driving, cooking, folding laundry, no fancy words or conversations, because God already knows your heart. Number three, turn on worship music instead of noise and let it minister to you in the background. Number four, be still for five minutes. No phone, no scrolling, just breathe. Number five, step outside, look at the sky and remember God is bigger than what is weighing on you right now. Number six, get connected somewhere where you can receive, not everywhere where you serve, but somewhere where someone else is pouring into you. Number seven, do something soothing for your body. Light a candle, journal, take a bath, take a nap, rest is necessary. Number eight, write it out. Ask God, what do you want me to see here? Number nine, set a boundary. You don't have to say yes to everything. Let me get back to you is a complete sentence. And number ten, before bed, name three things you are thankful for, even if one of them is I made it through the day. You are never meant to carry it all. It's okay to pause, it's holy to rest, it's necessary to refill. So before we step out again, step back into God's presence. He's not asking you to push harder, he's inviting you to come closer. And next week, we're going to talk about what happens after the rest, how you move forward, restored, not rushed, because obedience flows differently when you're operating from a full cup. Before we close, I want to say thank you. This podcast exists because of obedience, but it's sustained by community. Let me share a few messages that have truly blessed me. A sister from Houston wrote, Absolutely amazing podcast. It's truly something we all need. Thank you for stepping out in faith and following God's purpose. This episode motivated me to move past distractions. It felt like confirmation from God. Living by Faith wrote, I've been inspired by your podcast and look forward to Mondays. This reminder to walk with boldness and courage touched me deeply. A sister from Tulsa wrote, another great episode, Step Out Sis. I listened twice, a lot to unpack. Sis, when we show up honestly, God meets people right where they are. Thank you for listening. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for walking this journey with me. If this episode spoke to you, I'd love for you to do two things. First, follow and leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Your reviews help this message reach other women who need encouragement. Second, come connect with me on Facebook, search Step Out Sis, and join the community. And if you know another woman who is running on empty, share this episode with her. God, thank you for being our refuge and our rest. For every woman listening, I pray you quiet her spirit, refill her heart, and remind her that she is held. May she find peace not in productivity, but in your presence. In Jesus' name, amen. And with that, I will see you next week right here on Step Out Sis.
